Very funny, and helpfull . . . recommend to Business majors!!
tough grader but helpful. funny, work hard on presentations
great teacher, very helpful
hes an awesome teacher and very helpful. He loves UNCC and his daughters!:)
worth coming to every class- very good prof
Awesome teacher...don't mess around though, will be taking again for MGMT3160!!
cool cat
Good teacher, Makes class interesting. Learn a lot
Great Professor. A+ - cares about the students and helps in anyway possible.
kerr=care, come prepared,great assisitance
funny and makes learning easy the things he teaches you'll take w/ u 4 ever
terrible, moody failed whole summer class
he is a great professor. he is helpful and caring. i got a B in intro. to bus.
his lecture's are taught in a presentation style....very easy to learn.

He's very nice, helpful and professional, but Go to class, & study!
Excellent teacher and advisor. I have the priviledge to have him for both.
Very helpful! Explains the material very well!!
Carries out personal frustrations on class
Keeps you awake in class with funny stories..Tests tricky though so read book.
Very helpful and enthusiastic.
great guy, great classes, just go to class and you'll be fine
great teacher, but must do the work. will help, there is alot of timespent4class
Get used to redundancy and subjective grading! Didn't like class
Great Guy, will help out alot, test easy if you go to class, listen and take notes, Got A from his portion, concerned with Dixon-Brown- Boring
Great teacher interesting class. Some stuff at times seemed common sense but very uuseful in career. Will help you.
Great teacher, mentor and advisor. He truly cares about his students-he expects everyone to put forth 100% effort. I made b's and c's on the tests but managed to make an A by doing the assigned work well.
Cool guy. Religious. Tries to make class interesting. Very helpful. Good sense of humor.
wonderful teacher, very energetic, makes class interresting and fun....will help whenever you need it
Worst Professor in the business college. Perhaps described best as anal retentive.
Tests on things not taught. TOO RELIGIOUS..(he will try to convert you). Laugh at the jokes now..you will be the joke next semester.
Excellent teacher. Really cares about his students and willing to help them succeed.
class presentation graded way too strictly.class assignments graded hard as well. nice guy but tests are mc and not very clear when discussed in class.
Great professor, very nice and always willing to help.
VERY HELPFUL! Have to study class notes, book, AND packet to do well! Finish your assignment so he can proofread it for you...you can easily make an A that way!
Re-evaulate your life goals first, if success is one of them, strongly consider a better professor. Preaches instead of teaches, gets jelous of other students success. Does nothing to help anyone.
Cares like his students like the president cares for Saddam. Change your schedule not to take this class. Claims he only made a C in the very class he teaches. AVOID
You would think a communication teacher could communicate better. I should have listened to others advice! DO NOT TAKE!
great teacher. clear and fair. his partner teacher (dixon-brown), however, is a different story.
He's an okay guy. Very helpful outside of class (he'll actually grade your assignments better if he saw you in his office). Very moody! Best thing to do is keep your mouth shut and avoid catching his attention.
He should be the head of the Management Department!
You people are being too harsh here. Dr. Kerr just expects things to be done right, excellent training for the real world. His lectures are well prepared, he puts a lot of effort into his class and will help you if he can.
Face it, the class is terrible - but required. While Kerr and teaching partner aren't great, they may very well be the lesser of all evils.
very good teacher
this class is a necessary evil. at least the tests are easy. You have 3 tests, several hw assignments, 3 projects (oral, interview, report)
Good professor. He expects a lot from you, and his class is good. Really picky though, but his exams are easy. He's pretty funny too.
Mind numbingly dull. Even for a professor of communication. Should listen to himself more often. You See?
Dr. Kerr is really nice. His tests are fair, that is why they are easier than his partner Ms. Dixon-Brown's test. I made low B's on her's, but middle 90's on his. You do have to study though, but it is not hard if you do. Most important: Go over your papers 10 times because mistakes cost big
Why is the class required? It is a waste of time. At least it's easy though. Kerr's part is not as dull as Dixon-Brown's.
The class was ok but gave me a C for a 69.4. Took 5 points off my final grade because i was "late turning my resume". Too bad you don't check your mailbox more often. Should listen to himself talk. Not a big fan of his...
The material lectured is common sense.Kerr is a complete jerk when it comes to papers. He has no idea what it's REALLY like in the business world and he's trying to teach it?I've dealt with many people on a business level & the crap he teaches honestly,is not used in the REAL business world.
Nice prof. with a good sense of humor. Just read over your notes and pick out the main points in the text. Easy "B"
Not a bad class or professor, kind of interesting material... put a little time and work and you will def get a B... very hard to make an A though
Okay professor. He is a very good speaker. Tests are okay, some of the assignments are not fair. Easy 'B'.
Don't take this guy. He seems easy initially, but he grades like a Nazi on the outline and presentation. Also, his tests are dumb. He seems like a nice guy, but when you go talk to him, he's really a jerk. Pretty two-faced. I worked my tail off and now I got a B, when I always get A's. :( :(
Nice enough guy. However, very strict on the outline and presentation. If given the option, sign up for the later presentation dates. His part is more enjoyable than DB's.
I took him and Dixon-Brown together. People think he grades hard but if you follow the outlines there is no reason not to make an A. Make have to pay attention to detail and read the book for the test. I got an A but it wasn't easy at all ... especially with the group project.
Dr Kerr likes to make a simple class into something complicated and hard. Confusing grader, doesnt communicate what he wants to expect. Passed with a B, but the effort you have to put into the class to teach yourself is mind numbing.
This class was an easy A. Whoever says he grades hard didn't follow the directions.

so this guy kicked EVERYONE but 5 people out of class for not reading the chapter. how juvenile?!?!?! I don't think at this point it's his job to hold our hands and tell us when and how to do our work. its insulting to our intelligence...if I'm making an A now, I'm obviously doing something right...
yes he kicked all but 5 people out of class for not reading the chapter. this guy makes no sense what so every try to avoid
One of the best I have had; always helpful and has a great attitude; really cares about the students!
i did not have a class with this guy, but i got the chance to get to know him. He is the most disrespectful individual I have ever interacted with. Can't say nothing about his classes but I know I would never sign up to spend 3 hours a week with him!
Take another teacher.
He's an awesome guy and a really great teacher!
He is a great professor. He cares about your education and wants you to be the best. Be warned though he will make you work for the A.
Love Dr. Kerr! He is so funny and really good at what he does! He is very understanding and will help you if you need it.
He genuinely cares for his student and really pushes you to do your best. He also loves to shares stories in between his lectures to keep you up. He is a very good professor, it really just depends on how you study because he makes you work for that A. Helpful tip: Study and read assigned chapters plus TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EXTRA CREDIT. He offer lots.
Dr. Kerr is an excellent professor! He only assigns three papers and three tests (including the final) through the duration of the course. Tests are tricky, however, the papers are easy if you follow the directions and guidelines to a tee. He also assigns extra credit! Attendance is 7% of your final grade.
I liked Dr. Kerr's lectures and teaching style. Just WATCH OUT on any essay assignments, he's extremely critical and will catch the smallest mistake. Take notes on everything discussed in class because it will show up on the exams. Dr. Kerr is quick to answer emails and help you with questions.
Worst professor I've had at this college. Ridiculous grading based on subjective material.
Terrible excuse for a professor. Shows no class, very childish. Extremely subjective. Deviates from original expectation of what a resume or any business document should require.
This is College not high school and he grades accordingly. EVERY mistake will be found and points taken off for that mistake. The resume assignment is the easiest one. Just go to the carreer center, easy A on at least one assignment.
Tests are multiple choice and if you study notes you will get a good grade on tests. He is a very harsh grader when it comes to essay. Very nice guy and gives many resources to use for business and gives extra credit opportunities
Dr. Kerr is a tough professor, but he cares tremendously for his students. If you are sensitive to feedback then this is not the professor for you; however, if you are willing to accept feedback and learn from it then he is wonderful. Regardless, this professor will prepare you for the business world.
We learned quickly in this class that it was his way or the highway. He was super strict with guidelines and formatting but I learned more in his class than I did in many others. He only wants to instill the proper business communications standards into us and I appreciated him for that, even if his teaching style might not be what most are used to
He wants his students to succeed! Tough grader but JUST FOLLOW DIRECTIONS. Tests are hard to make an A on but he does give out opportunities of EC. You need the book. You must attend class. 3 tests. 3 papers. He can be pretty funny although he comes off as intimidating. Always responds to emails quickly. Makes you work for an A. Made an A.
Dr. Kerr is a really nice guy! His lectures are really interesting because he adds in additional facts that the book didn't give you. You can tell he cares about his students and them doing well. Don't skip class because there are points added for attendance at the end of the semester! The exams are hard and you have to study to do well.
extremely strict for an intro class for freshman!!!
Kerr is an excellent teacher. He makes a 75 minute class feel like 30. Tests are a breeze, but you've got to put a bit of effort into the 3 papers to make an A in the class. Really just a great guy that I would love to take again.
Ridiculous on grading assignments. Disrespectful
Great guy, pretty funny and has fun teaching. Tough grader but tells you exactly what he wants, so follow rubric to a tee. Lectures are entertaining, tests are extremely easy. 3 major papers throughout the year, gives lots of extra credit opportunities.
I learned a lot in this class however it was a lot of work. You can get by without the text book but it helps to read it if you want to do well on the tests. He comes off a little rude sometimes because he is particular about how he wants things done. I would probably take a different professor if I could retake this class. Not horrible, not great
Dr. Kerr was always prepared for every lecture and was always enthusiastic even though we were his 5th class of the day. Any question someone had he could answer it with a good response immediately. The grading was fair and he gave plenty of extra credit opportunities. He taught the material well and always give good examples to explain material better.
He doesn't really care if you understand the concept behind the 3 major papers, he only cares if you follow the rubric. Anyone that says he is hype is right but he wastes lecture time by talking about his daughters mostly. If you dont buy the book you will fail, his lectures are pretty useless tbh.
He doesn't really care if you understand the concept behind the 3 major papers, he only cares if you follow the rubric. Anyone that says he is hype is right but he wastes lecture time by talking about his daughters mostly. If you dont buy the book you will fail, his lectures are pretty useless tbh. He isnt very caring either compared to most.
If you want to learn a lot about common sense business then I highly recommend taking this class. But, he is a hard grader especially when it comes to papers. IF you want an A you MUST go to his office hours and review you papers with him before you turn them in. He will go over them and tell you what is wrong so you can correct it before it is due
Don't skip class.
Good professor but his exams are the type where you have to read the chapters in detail in order to do good.. 4 papers & 3 exams.. The papers aren't too bad, just follow the rubric. Exams are what I would worry about though, too detailed and the true and false questions can be tricky
Dr. Kerr is an amazing professor! Very caring and willing to help at all times. Three tests, three papers, and a final. Does take attendance! Tests are pretty basic if you attend class and listen. Highly recommend taking his class!!
Extremely tough grader for the papers (takes points off for spacing.) You could pass the class without ever attending the lectures but attendance is still mandatory. Way too hard for an intro course.
He was great! I learned a lot and really enjoyed the class. The grading was a little more difficult than expected but I learned more because of it. Definitely would take again.
I really enjoyed him and he helped me with my papers to make sure I got 100's on them. I would recommend to anyone. You can read the book some, but as long as you pay attention in class you will pass the class. He is one of my favorite professors.
Dr. Kerr is a quality guy with a big heart. His tests are pretty easy, just take general notes on the book as well as in class and you'll get an A. The papers are sometimes challenging but just read the rubric a couple times and ask him a question if you don't understand something. This class is not hard, just put in the work and do all the easy EC
Dr. Kerr is the best professor for Intro to Business. He truly wants his students to succeed. His lectures are easy to listento & informative. The tests can be tricky, use quizlets to study. With the papers he is a tough grader but all you have to do is go into office hours before it is due, have him check it and you are almost guaranteed a 100.
Dr. Kerr was very specific about the work he wanted completed. He knew all the tricks college students try to play and did not let them slide. He is a very friendly guy. For intro to business, I highly recommend. Simple tests if you study, three or four papers that he outlined so were very easy.
Dr. Kerr is the man! Great in class and always available for help. Follow his guidelines and you'll be good to go.
Dr. Kerr is the man. If you are truly interested in business you can learn a lot from him in his lectures and not be completely bored. Study for the tests and follow the template exactly when writing the papers.
Exams consist of lecture & textbook material. 50% multiple choice & 50% True and False. There is a semester project that looks intimidating but isn't that bad. His expectations are very clear. Lectures are not posted, so you need to go to class. Actually teaches and provides quick feedback. Highly recommend this guy!
You'll fail the essays
His lectures are good and he does a great job of covering the material, exams are easy if you read and go to class, his papers are graded way too harshly (takes off 10 points for format, turning it in even a minute late will take points off, etc.)
Daryl L. Kerr is probably the greatest professor to step foot onto this campus. Yes his lectures are kinda boring, but he will prepare you like no other. If you are complaining about the harsh writing grades you didn't put any effort into trying to get a good grade. The assignments are clear and straightforward. Follow the rubric and you'll be fine
You can tell that he cares about his Intro students. He is very specific when lecturing and typically keeps his lectures interesting, especially if you actually care about business. He doesn't like laptops in class and will call you out if you are being disrespectful, so don't. His grading on papers is extremely difficult, so beware of that.
Test are really easy, however the papers are hard. You will fail every single paper if you do not take it to him before the deadline. What I mean is you can turn in the three major papers a week early and he will edit them exactly how he wants them. Prepare your papers well and you will pass the class. He is a really good professor. Easy A
Worst teacher at Belk College. Stay away. Random papers to study. Takes off for very minor items. If you want to have a good GPA to go to Law School he will make that not happen.
Worst professor I have ever encountered. Excessively and ridiculously harsh grader. Avoid at all costs.
I have nothing negative to say about the professor. His tests are easy if you attend class and study the notes. However, the papers are hard. Just because he takes off points if it not in the exact format that he wants. Make sure to ask questions before submitting your paper. But overall if you study and try on the papers you should do well.
This class was a bit challenging and scary at first. He is stringent in what he expects. Small details matter. Yet, he becomes much more open and relaxed as the semester progresses. Just be prepared to have some knowledge of the assigned readings and practice, practice, practice professional presentation etiquette.
Dr. Kerr is a great professor and I would recommend taking him for Summer classes. I found his lectures to be enlightening, and this class ended up being one of my favorites at UNCC thus far.
Daryl Kerr is possibly the greatest human to walk this earth. Between his amazing advice and rants in class this was one of my favorite professors Ive had. Lectures are boring but he provides insight on how to live a great business life and have a successful career. He grades papers tough but do your work and you will get a good grade.
Kerr is overall a great man & professor. His class was kinda difficult but only if you didn't prepare for his lectures/tests/presentations. He gives specific grading criteria so follow that & you'll be fine. He gives great feedback on your presentation skills and helps you improve. If you don't read but pay attention to lectures you'll get a B
Dr. Kerr is probably my favorite professor I have had so far at UNCC. Lectures are engaging and funny. He says his lectures are like church sermons which is pretty accurate. Take him for BUSN 1101!!
Made intro to business fun to take. Small amount of assignments. His papers have a very tricky rubric to ace. Sometimes he allows edits, make sure to take advantage of that. Exams can be passed with 80+ by reading the text book.
Great professor, had 3 papers to do, all 3 were double spaced and he gave them at the beginning of the year, do them early and turn them into him and he will correct them to the way he wants and then fix your "errors" for an easy 100. 3 major tests not cumulative (1 being the final). Honestly if you can't make an A or B in this class switch majors.
Great professor with interesting lectures! Without showing up to class it is doubtful you will pass. Dr. Kerr is a very hard grader when it comes to papers. Three papers are given for the semester. He allows you to turn the paper in 2 weeks early and he will read over it and provide feedback. I HIGHLY suggest turning papers in early!!!
The only grades you get in this class are three papers, three tests, five exercises, and attendance, so everything matters. But he was a really nice guy, and wants to see all his students succeed. He is super accessible for whatever you might need outside of class.
Papers can kill you in this class. He systematically grades them so every student does horrible on the first paper, then progressively improves each paper (even if all 3 papers are exactly the same and aren't actually better!!!). If you can avoid him for BUSN 1101 specifically, DO IT! I made an A on every exam and made a B because of the papers.
Daryl Kerr is like my second father. Without him, I would be nothing. For those that are whining about the "workload," please reconsider going to college. This man blesses us each and every day with his appearance and his wide variety of button up short sleeves. You will regret not taking the best Professor on this campus. Make the right choice.
Awesome professor!!!! If youre needing to take MGMT3140 for a business credit this is the man to take it with. Kerr is great at attention getting and knows how to relate real life situations to strategies. All in all, hes one of my two favorite professors on campus.
Dr Kerr is great. Your grade revolves around 4 papers and 3 tests. No study guides for tests but read the textbook chapters and take notes and you will be fine. Papers can be turned in early for feedback and a grade of 110. Classes are all lectures but he usually finds a way to make them interesting. Do your work early and study, you will get an A.
Doesn't grade papers unless you turn them in early. If turned in early, he gives extra credit. Same with assignments. Tests and papers are worth almost all your grades. Fine lectures, makes them interesting, but rambles at times or repeats himself over different days and doesn't cover all of the material because of this.
Dr. Kerr is a great guy. Genuinely Cares about his students. Attendance is important, he takes off a lot of points for missing class or leaving during lecture. Take your notes outside of class. Your grade basically becomes the average of three tests and three papers. Offers so much extra credit for turning things early.
He is very nice, and gives 3 tests, 1 including the final. He gives all the work at the beginning of the semester, and there are 3 papers. He allows you to turn them early and you can get extra credit. The test are really easy if you know the vocabulary, and his class is pretty boring, but if you read the textbook you will be fine
He was a really nice professor and wanted all of his students to succeed. Pay attention, take notes, do not skip class. He gives 3 exams. Final exam not cumulative.
Dr. Kerr is a great man and makes his class very enjoyable. The grade consisted of a few assignments, a few papers, and 3 tests. The papers were really easy and he offers extra credit on them. I never opened the book and made a B. If using the book, the class is probably easy.
freshman at UNCC, took Kerr for BUSN 1101 my freshman year, never opened the book and got a A. You some work out of the book but he doesnt grade it. You get graded heavily for three essays but if you turn them a week or so early you get a 100 so if you procrastinate you basically wont get a A. Test are common sense. You should get at least a 85.
The worst teacher I've had at UNCC. Ridiculous grading criteria. Would be better suited to teach Business Communication in 1980. Don't take him
(Covid-19) Dr. Kerr is a great person. He is very knowledgeable of the topic and gives great lectures. Must be in class, he doesn't play with attendance. Prepare to work on teams, he gives plenty of time for a research paper that is more than half of your grade. The paper is 25 pages long with 25 resources, with a very tough list of requirements.
Absolutely loved this class. Professor Kerr is THE professor for all incoming freshman who want to succeed at UNC Charlotte and in business.
He's a really nice guy, but he is ridiculous grading assignments. Has very unclear requirements and punishes you severely for the slightest mistake. He had an Outline assignment, like the outline for a paper. Highest grade in the class was a 94, class average was a 75. On a freaking outline. I'd write more, but I'm out of space. Don't take this cla
Lets just say I did one thing accidentally wrong and I might as well couldve failed the whole course. Did not care that I made an accident and could prove that it wasnt an accident. When asked if I could do anything to help my grade, continued to tear my grade apart more.
This class is 3 papers, 3 tests, and about 10 small assignments. If you follow the directions and put a little effort for assignments and papers, you'll get an A on those. The tests are hard, they are based on his lectures and the textbook. He is a very kind professor and caring, on assignments you can get up to 110 which is nice. Decent professor.
Seems like a nice person but he takes an archaic approach to everything. Teaches in such an outdated way that he is basically doing more harm than good. His lectures could be boiled down to 1/5 the time, his resume expectations are straight outta 1985, he doesn't understand current majors and will expect you to present on bizarre topics. Avoid him.
One of the best professors I've had at uncc. A little lecture heavy but makes it interesting. Make sure to follow the guidelines on his papers and you'll do fine.
Professor Kerr's class was very helpful in understanding the basics of business, and he gave clear instructions on how to do each project and paper. You definitely need to study for his tests, but they are not too challenging if you put in the work. Papers were enjoyable. Put in the work and you shall succeed
His lectures are basically stories and life advice. The papers were easy and fun. Tests weren't super easy but not too difficult.
This professor is outdated and lazy in his teaching style. He exhibits attitude and negativity. He is very u approachable and NEVER AVAILABLE OR IN OFFICE - let alone if he shows up for class. Non motivational and lack of pursuing new skills.
Really nice guy, easy to get ahold of. He made the subject matter engaging in his lectures. I would 100% take his class again.
He is a super genuine guy. He knows a lot about charlotte and is super helpful with any questions freshmen have. Not a tough grader and wants the best for his students. Three papers and three exams. If you read the material and show up to class you will easily pass.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class. He genuinely wants the best for students and I felt he graded fairly. He was quick to respond, gave good feedback, and had great lectures. There were 5 assignments and 3 exams. The assignments were easy and the exams were fairly easy if you watched the videos & skimmed the textbook. I would take his class again
