He assigns the chapter review assignments due at the exams. So you have about 30 questions of homework for each exam. There's only 3 exams though. Not awful, but you definitely want to read the book as his lectures are basically all participation. Attendance isn't mandatory, but they help with understanding. There's also a group research paper.
Review questions for each chapter due before exam. His exams are 80 questions. You can skip class if you don't think his class benefits you. Uploads class slideshows on D2L. In class he basically reads the slideshow and then voice his opinion. Fairly easy... if you don't study. Passing with a B without ever reading/learning!
Very typical to be let out of class a half an hour early. Tests are difficult but are taken online outside of class. He just goes over the chapter during class. Probably one of the easier options for this course, and I definitely would recommend him to a friend.
Parker is a nice guy, but the class was so boring. If attendance didn't count, I wouldn't have gone. 5 online exams which are so easy and some other minor assignments. The exams will determine your grade so put effort into those. He gives a lot of personal experience examples which are enlightening, and he tries to make the material not so dull.
Tests are taken online, some are harder than others. A few group case study projects throughout the semester. Fairly easy class.
All 5 quizzes & 5 exams were in-class. Multi-choice questions are confusingly written and have trick answers. Material quizzed on from powerpoints are VERY specific. Memorize the names of authors of Leadership Theory papers post-1970 (not kidding). Group projects? All (6) members, regardless of contribution, receive the same grade. No EC or Curve.
He has like 5 or 6 test and quizzes which are all kinda tough just do the reading and it's not so bad. but everything else in that class, as long as you follow directions and complete it fully, he gives you a 100% on. I had a B average in my test category but I got an A in the class because I had a 100% In everything else. Definitely take him!
All Tests and Quizzes in class. He mostly reads off of slides he made, but doesn't go over all of the material on the tests and quizzes. Do NOT recommend for any class.
Intro class and it was harder than my 300 level courses. As hard as ACCT. Worst professor I've had. Loves to single people out. Very arrogant. Trick questions on tests. You better get a good group, if not, you do projects by yourself- he doesn't care. A 101 course should teach you basics, not stress you out and make you despise the field.
Reads off of slides that are pre made, and does not elaborate on anything. Attending the class is basically pointless. The tests all have answers that are very similar that are made to trick you and not test what you learned in the chapter.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. He used an online book that was confusing to access. Power point notes didn't help very much. Tests and quizzes were worded confusingly and there were trick answers to most of the questions. He singles people out and argues with people over their opinions. Seems very unprofessional in and out of class.
Was a very difficult 100 course. He made the exams very specific. He was a very nice guy but didn't teach very well. You have to basically read and memorize every word in the text book. He claims he won't give extra credit but he helped a lot with exam grades either with a curve or by tossing a couple pints our way.
I would never suggest taking this professor no matter the situation. He made a 100 level course seem like a 400. Loves to single out students and overall just a bad professor.
Lots of quizzes and tests. He tries to be very interactive with the class. He calls on people randomly all class, very direct questions.
He knows the material is dry so he calls on people a lot trying to liven the place up. His discussions are interesting, but his tests and quizzes are really hard -seemingly trick questions in which true and false comes down to a simple adjective. He gives ec opportunities and a lot of points for homework. A few group projects and presentation.
Fun professor, encourages discussion, will call on you.
Awesome professor. Some of the content can be dry, but is very interactive and makes the class interesting. As long as you get to know him and get comfortable with him, the class will interesting and relatively easy.
He calls on the people who look most like they do not want to be called on. He's a fairly nice professor, but gives a ton of reading, and is terrible at explaining assignments. It's an okay class, but you have to work super hard to do well.
He doesn't care to remember anyone's name.
The tests are a bit confusing, but he has allowed us to take our quizzes in groups numerous times. Also, if you completely meet all of the criteria for group or individual assignments, its an easy A.
A real stand up guy. Extremely charismatic. His quizzes/exams are worded misleadingly and sometimes ambiguous. He makes up for it with an extra credit assignment at the beginning of the year and being lenient with some of the test answers. Take the notes from the chapter before the class and you will do well.
Have to read huge chapters and take clear notes to do well on the tests. Does not explain things very well in class and will call on random people. Easy grader on everything except tests and quizzes.
His style of teaching is very, very engaging, so if you don't like to participate in class, you probably would not like how he teaches. But honestly, it does help you understand the material a lot better. There are a decent amount of tests, but as long as you do the readings before class and study before tests, you'll be more than fine.
i took a business class because i am an accounting major, but all we have learned about is Muslims. He rushes through the chapters and then surprises you with a quiz. he is not clear on due dates or assignments and doesn't answer questions that are asked in emails
For a 100 level class he expects way too much. Tests and quizzes are extremely difficult and in depth even though he claims, "you don't need to memorize, just know the overall concept." Seriously, you need to memorize. Should be an easy class but he makes it very difficult.
Cool funny guy had him for business and society and he made it much harder than an entry level business class needed to be. He talks as though we're in a corporate firm 24/7 and his lectures are wordy for no reason and rarely connect to make sense to main topic. He will put you on the spot so be prepared. GO TO CAREER FAIR FOR EXTRA CREDIT POINTS!
Really nice professor. He has clear expectations, and as long as you follow them, you'll do good.
Learned a lot about Muslims in this class, it was special kind of business and society I think. Did not take any notes and just did study guides an with basic business got C's but there were so many other assignments that the exams accounted for at most 20% of the total grade and everything else was about 2 presentations or easy assignments for A's
He is too harsh. Always off topic and never learn anything in class. Always studying extra to understand
Unless you want an entry-level class to be the hardest class in your schedule, don't take this professor. Almost every class he surprises us with a quiz or exam. He assigns projects that are a complete waste of time. Also if you don't completely answer all of his questions in a homework assignment, even if you don't get it, he will mark it incomple
This class and teacher will make you want to switch your major. I was business undecided and after a week in the class I switched to education. If you really like boring and off topic repetitive lectures each day, along with case studies that are pointless and harshly graded, then this class is for you!
Professor Daryl Parker is truly one of the best teachers I have ever had. His lectures are long but very interesting. He has clear expectations and if you follow them then you will do good. He is a great guy in general. He is a little tough but if you do the reading it is extremely easy. He is a great business teacher and I highly recommend him.
Daryl Parker is a lecture heavy professor. He doesn't clearly teach each chapter, uses presentation slides everyday. He assigns tests and quizzes a day or two after learning new content. He takes weeks to grade anything. His tests are based off an old textbook that is not used anymore and when the class does poor on them, he says none of us studied
You have to pay attention to his lectures, if you miss something it will be on the exam. Good guy, good teacher, he challenges you to take responsibility upon yourself.
Daryl is a horrible professor. He does not tell you when his exams and quizzes are. You show up and he will just throw one at you and expect you to know new content within a day. Then, he will grade your paper and give you 100% on it and then 86% on the presentation when you presented the exact thing on the paper and say you are missing something.
Calm is the perfect word to describe him. He isn't mean, he isn't super funny or nice, but he is just a calm dude who is your professor. He gives out a decent amount of quizzes & tests and at the end of the semester you get a lot to do, but it's clear what you are supposed to do. He takes a while to grade things. You'll get an A or B if you do work
Eh, didn't like him. A lot of people hated him. I only got an A cause I did the extra credit. He lets you out early pretty often and is a nice dude. Just not that good of a professor.
Takes this class way too seriously. Extremely unorganized and throws exams at you randomly without warning. I heard from friends that this is an extremely easy class and this was one of my toughest. Do NOT take him for BEINDP 101.
Do the extra credit! you'll regret it if you don't. His exams are easy and he says he won't take late work but he did.
I wouldn't really listen to most of these comments. He is a really cool guy, that cares whether you do well or not. He has a heavy background in management, so he likes to reference his background in store management. He will definitely talk to you after class if you have questions.. He will also greet you in the halls. He's a pretty cool guy.
Great professor! Took a long time to grade but wasn't a tough grader. Would take him again.
Do not recommend Mr Parker. Had him for beindp 101. Tests and homework are easy to do, but he doesn't provide rubrics, so you will get random points off of presentations and papers which is frustrating. He is adverse to responding to any communication about grading. I am an A student in all other classes, yet Mr Parker had other ideas. Niceish guy.
Mr. Parker was so bad I almost switched my major because of him. Graded everything at the last second, so you had no idea if you were going to pass. Exams are extremely hard even if you read and go to class .Lectures and book stuff aren't on test. Grills people for upwards of 20 mins and then says I'm not trying to grill you. Would NOT recommend.
I felt that his quizzes and exams were easy if you just put in a little studying. He isn't very clear on directions or giving warning to assignments, but the assignments are easy to accomplish once you understand. He also grades for completion most times. His classes tend to be lecture heavy but it's usually just going over what you should've read.
Really good teacher. If you have the chance to take his classes, do it. You learn a lot and he is a really good guy. If you listen, go through his powerpoints, and participate you will excel in this class. He is a relatively easy grader. Took tests on lockdown browser, did an individual and a group presentation. It's a pretty easy class. Take him!
Hes a nice professor, but during the first two weeks of class I didnt learn a think. He talked about himself for multiple days. He would also only use PowerPoint for notes. He assigns tests and quizzes in the morning and due at night you have no idea you have a test or quiz until you check canvas. Also he never replys to emails for about a week.
This man is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. He does not respond to any emails that you have and if he does he does not answer your questions and disregards your concern. He refuses to meet with you and insists to read directions over but they are so unclear that you don't know what you are doing all the time. NEVER take his "Professor"
Mr. Parker was a great professor. He offered tons of extra credit opportunities, allowing anyone to get a good grade in the class. There are quite a few quizzes, but pay attention to lectures, read the book, and you'll be fine. He LOVES participation, sometimes even gives extra credit for it. Very easy A.
for me it was like 50/50 there was some good some bad there is a lot for both sides overall class not hard but is kinda is a tough grader in a way but does allow extended time on assignments if you talk to him projects were easy biggest CON is the instructions for some things are never clear and changes them at random only happen twice
If you are extremely extroverted and do really well in school, you will do fine in this class. If not, good luck. Professor Parker will randomly call on students to answer questions about personal life experiences like jobs etc. and overall random things. It is overall a very stressful lecture to attend. Only plus was that his tests were online.
Daryl Parker may be the best professor I have ever taken at UWW. I have over 100% in this class just from the extra credit that he offered. You don't have to show up to class because he posts all the slides online. Showing up to class helps though because there are test questions that he only covers while he's speaking and repeats it over and over.
Professor Parker does come off as intimidating on first impression; however, as the semester goes on, he starts to warm up with the class. He is very lecture heavy and will call on you at a moment's notice so be prepared. Other than that, the class is relatively easy with grades coming mostly from chapter quizzes and tests and group projects.
Professor Parker was a good teacher. At first, he came across as very strict and intimidating. But after a few class periods, this was one of the easiest classes of my semester. All of the exams are online. Very lecture-heavy course but the content is easy. Overall, the class was good. I would rank as average to low in terms of difficulty.
!!Do not take him if you struggle with mental health issues!! I reached out to him for assistance in getting back on track in the course very early in the semester. I had struggled with my mental health severely at the beginning of the semester, he then told me to drop out of school I was "suffering so much". He is very unprofessional and just rude
Prof. Parker can be seen as intimidating and scary at the first but after a few weeks, he isn't that bad. He does call on people randomly so always be ready with some sort of answer to give him. There are 5 exams and quizzes that are all online via the lockdown browser. Tons of extra credits as well. Not the worse but not the best by any means.
If you get past the lectures, he is a very understanding and great professor. The homework isn't hard, and it is nice that he lives in Milwaukee because on snow days he doesn't force you to go to class--he'll just post something online. He is a great person to talk with. I highly recommend him for beindp101, or any of his other classes.
super easy class. this prof's style takes some getting used to but if you listen even just 50% of the time you'll be fine. So much extra credit that it is super easy to get over a 100% for semester. Very light work load, minimal homework, Good choice to take to get this class over with
Professor Parker is very engaging with his lectures. As long as you pay attention and do the course work, you will do very well. He is very personable and looks at things from the perspective of a student. All quizzes were online and there is little to no reading required besides a few articles/case studies.
most class is built around discussion and Professor Parker often talks like he knows more than he actually does and its pretty obvious that he makes up much of his lectures on the spot. Super easy class though with all online tests.
Horrible communication, tons of speeches, overall a terrible time
His grading criteria are difficult and completely unclear. But he is super engaging when he lectures. I didn't attend class much and I passed pretty easily. I would recommend going at least once a week. He also cancels class when you have an exam so that is pretty nice. But his exams have weird due times.
This class is supposed to be an easy one to pass. However, he makes it difficult for students to accomplish anything since his due dates are at the weirdest time. Some of them would be due at 6pm, some at 9pm. The exams and quizzes are online (with lockdown) but exams are literally due right after class. Save your time and pick someone else.
This is an easy class, I would've gotten a better grade if I had been on top of completing assignments on time. Be aware of early turn-in times, those threw off a lot of people in the class, including me. Utilize all of the extra credit, they are simple and help your class grade a lot.
find someone else if you can
100% avoid if you can, he is a tough grader and if you don't 110% follow his directions he will give you a 0. He is a kind teacher but very strict and doesn't give exceptions. Get ready for a lot of quizzes and to take a lot of notes.
I wouldn't recommend taking him especially if you don't like being called on randomly. Every class it seems like he makes it a point to call on EVERY student. Overall the class was pretty easy, the extra credit in the beginning of the semester was very helpful. There were two speeches, but one of them was with a group. Also due dates were annoying.
The class was pretty easy but he assigned a lot of homework to do.
You can definitely tell he is ex-military in the way he teaches, randomly calling on kids, putting them on the spot multiple times a lecture, but he is cool dude otherwise. He is a very easy grader as long as you 100% complete the assignment. Worst part of him is the inconvenient due dates like 9pm on a Thursday or something along those lines.
- Very unclear grading criteria. - Unwilling to answer questions, only response is "the answer is on canvas". - Does not reply to emails within a timely manner. - Does not take criticism well. - Seems like he doesn't even know what he is teaching. - Speeds through lectures making it hard to keep up. I would not recommend this prof.
He was a nice guy. Semi-fun lectures. There are 3 main assignments: group case study, personal leadership philosophy assessment, and an individual case study reflection. All in all, the class was pretty easy under Parker. I barely went to class because the tests are all online for the most part and still got an "A".
Avoid this professor if possible. He comes off as very conceited and condescending to the students. Be carful of weird assignment due dates like 9pm on a Tuesday for example. His grading criteria is most of the time very unclear as to what he wants you to do in the assignment. His Canvas page is like a scavenger hunt to find literally anything.
Good morning. Mr. Parker is for sure a funny guy. If you read and understand your course announcements daily it is an easy A. I ended with a 99.
Easiest and probably the best professor I had. It's harder to fail then to pass the class. He gives out 2 extra credit assignments that are very easy and worth many points. The assignments are long but gives you a lot of time to do them. 3 main assignments are a group project, leadership philosophy project and case studeis.
Great Professor!
Overall, I liked Mr. Parker. He makes sure everyone is engaged in class, which really intimidated me at first but turned out to be really fun. Sadly, he isn't very good at explaining projects, and there are three main projects that I really struggled to understand what was expected of me. But again, I did really like him as a professor.
Awful professor. Cold calls everyone and if you are looking down or he knows you are not engaged, he will call on you and press for more out of you non-stop. He never gives a rubric so you don't know what the actual assignment is and he never responds to an email nicely or helpfully. DO NOT TAKE HIM
Overall great teacher. Tough grader but I recommend taking him you will actually learn
I don't know why his score isn't higher. Great teacher—even with the cold calling. Do all the extra credit- which is easy and you're guaranteed an A. Really just liked him as a guy too. Actually cares about giving advice that will help you in the real world. Also his rubrics are clear unlike others have stated on their reviews.
Lotta Extra credit
Mr. Parker is an alright teacher, with lots of extra credit. He tends to look for anyone who might look away for a split second and calls on them and intimidates them. He is alright.
Professor Parker is a good guy but he falls very short as a professor to give clear instructions then gives a zero if you misinterpret his misguiding instructions. He also has a tendency to cold call people in class. Overall the semester was fine because of his extra credit he gives out but I wouldn't recommend him.
I like his lecture style. He likes calling on people who clearly aren't paying attention to the discussion, which is useful to get all perspectives of a discussion. Although I will say I don't like his directions for assignments. He makes them seem like they clear, but would leave my classmates and I confused and figuring it out on our own.
He will cold call on students, even if you are fully engaged and paying attention. He can sometimes go off on a tangent when lecturing. In my opinion, he's rude, and I don't like how he would ask me a question then cut me off before I could answer clearly. Don't take him if you don't have to.
Never had politics dragged into a class so many times. Lectures were so boring. He cold calls and puts people on the spot with uncomfortable questions. Assignment requirements are not communicated well and the final group project is a complete mess. Overall just not a good person to take for what is supposed to be an entry level class.
His cold calling style is different but it stuck with me because it kept me engaged and wanting to participate. He's a really cool professor who gave me great advice that helped me land an internship with a pro baseball team as a freshman. He also wrote me a scholarship recommendation and connected me with a mentor. Just listen to him!
Cold calls on people, which may not be fun but definitely made everyone engaged for lectures, however some lectures were really long and boring.instructions are can be unclear. Gives ton of easy extra credit points so that everything else almost doesn't matter. Just not the best teacher as lectures can be confusing too.
Mr. Parker uses a cold call style during lectures that I think a lot of people don't like. While I understand him trying to engage students it comes off as kind of aggressive sometimes. His instructions on assignments can be pretty confusing and the final group project can become quite a mess. Also gives out a lot of extra credit. Overall ok.
He cares a lot about his students and is willing to help you understand better even outside of class. He has a lot of knowledge from his life experiences. He lets class out early most days (short lectures), cancels class sometimes, and is an easy grader. He loves enthusiasm and participation from students. 100% reccommend.
