if you want to sell yourself on south division talk to this man

The class is EZ enough, very nice guy. Seems a bit disorganized
Very tough, but good. Lots of notes.
Fast paced but keeps you awake
Fast paced class, slightly difficult, but he is willing to help.
really a nice guy, but he will never read this because he doesnt use computers
A lot of notes, vocab. difficult test
Didn't like him at all
go to class, study terms hard long tests, real nice guy
Nice guy, tests are kinda tough.
Very fast paced class and he tries to trick students on multiple choice exams.
tough, but good guy
Good guy, tough tests, fast paced but overall okay
nice guy, expects way too much, got ants in his pants
He went very fast and his tests were very hard. I wouldn't recommend him.
I thought he did a good job. His class was amusing.
Interesting class but hard long tests
I was on the deans list for a year and a half until I took his class. Thx Baker!
Easy--do study guide, get good grade. The end.
Makes econ interesting and easy to understand..really nice guy..
Hard tests, Lots of notes, Terms very important!
Do not miss his class, because everything on tests come from in class notes.
Great teacher, extremely easy, tells whats on tests. Don't miss class tho!
way too much like high school, lots of busy work. Tests kill your grade.
Good guy...bad class...disorganized....prof that Can't use computers....OR TYPE&
No Comments
He knows a lot on the subject and gives lots of examples to understand better.
difficult grading on tests
too much info.; wanders when lecturing
I love this guy! He is so funny. Just listening to his lectures keeps me smiling
Leaves last word out of sentences... fill in the blanks with stupid words... fun
Just go to class and you are bound to come out on top
he's funny to listen to, answers his own questions, don't need the book
Talks fast, must come to class to keep up, don't need book. Tests are easy.
One of the best profs ever had!!
easy teacher, although un-organized, come to every class possible
Expects a lot. Nice guy and very smart. Study a lot
make sure you know your stuff and the quizzes are easy
Lots of work, study hard for tests but all in all a good class
Funny old guy, very experienced in life. Never expect to get out of class early
He gives you examples in class, and you use them on the test! Pay attention! crazy note taker..be able to try to understand it all!! But over all a funny and great guy. I would recommend him for this class!!!
great prof...knows his stuff...never be afraid to ask for help, call him at home or ask questions during tests..always willing to help!
Great prof! Very easygoing, nice. No homework, just tests, and lots of notes. Just go to class and finish his sentences for him =)
COME TO CLASS! Don't read the book, if you do you'll fail the tests because he tests on the outdated info in his head. Grades tests fast and innacurately. Hard to listen to in class because leaves blanks when he talks.
not the best Econ teacher, but he is a interesting guy
goes VERY fast in class, sometimes don't have enough time to write things down, test can be confusing at times (take essay over mc if given choice), don't need book b/c only used to look up one thing and it contradicted what he told us, don't waste the $$
NOTES... He gives piles of notes and races through the info as though he has to cram twice as much in as he really needs to. Knows his stuff. Good teacher.
A very nice guy, no need for the book. The tests are just like his notes. Very important to go to class and take good notes
Talks a mile a min. and that's taking it easy. Very difficult to understand what information is important to him.
If you come to class and LISTEN...and are ready to take notes, you will do great! Baker is one of the BEST teachers I have ever had at GV. I have never been able to understand econ until I had him. You dont need the book...waste of money
Great Professor! Go to class and take notes. The exams are straight from the notes, so if you know those you will do fine!
Impossible to remember all the details from the notes for the final. Cannot do it. Very straightforward on what will be on the final, but too much to remember.
Prof Baker makes class very interesting and easy to understand with personal examples. If you are willing to come to class, LiStEn, and take about 5 pages of notes, you're set. His tests are based off the notes, gives you a review sheet for the final.
This class sucked. It was hard to pass and the book is basically useless. Drop it seriously if it's on your scedule if you don't LOVE economics
If anyone else teaches ECO 436 take them. I realize this is the first time he has taught it, but come on. You need to know the book for multiple choice and lecture for essay!
DO NOT READ ALL THOSE GOOD REVIEWS! That old man must be the devil himself. Talks a mile a minute. The book is worthless. Business major and failed intro to econ...? I will never take him again
I would not take this class from this man again. Lots of notes that are often confusing. Teaches out of his head, don't really use the book. It's pretty bad when over half the class fails his tests.
no no no no! dont do it....
He is a very good teacher. Explains things very well but he does talk fast at times. He explains concepts very well with real world situations that are easy to undestand. Would take him again if I could.
Nice guy and knows what he is talking about, but cannot explain it to the class. He just scribbles on the board and expects you to understand it! I don't recommend him!
Very nice and entertaining guy, also enthusiastic. His tests are a bit difficult, but if you study you should do okay. Don't bother reading. I'd take him again.
Nice guy and good teacher. He trys to cram a lot of information into a short amount of time. Expects you to remember a lot for tests. But he is willing to help you after class as much as you need
He is a good prof but you have to be able to learn quickly to take his class, he crams a lot of info into short classes.
Boring, boring, boring. His exams are confusing and hard, and there are no homework opportunities to gain extra points. Oh, and don't bother buying the book. He lectures straight off the top of his head.
Don't listent to the bad reviews. If you go to class and take the notes you are fine. This was my first econ class and it was not hard at all. He's a great teacher, I'd take anything he's teaching.
If you dont' love econ do not take this guy all the people saying good things have to put a lot of effort into their work. Don't bother with the book seriously drop it if you don't LOVE econ
BORING! His lectures we endless and confusing. Tests were terrible even if you study for hours. Find another Prof.
babble babble babble. holy man. he talks the WHOLE hour.... every single min. tests are way hard, no extra homework to gain other points.
I don't know why everyone says he's such a bad professor. I loved Baker!! He was easy and very leniant. Super helpful, also.
Good teacher, not always interesting but knows a lot about subject and covers material well. NEVER USED BOOK, just take notes and pay attention and u will do fine on tests.
nice guy, class is not that hard if you pay attention in class and actually learn the material, dont buy the book cuz you dont need it.
Baker was a good prof, took econ and put it on an understanable level. Tests were fair, you just have to know the material. DO NOT waste $80 on the book. I never read it or used it and got a B+, he gives independent notes.
I did not like this class. The tests were hard and every class is the same lecture, lecture, lecture!!! and like others have said the earliest you will ever get out is about 1 minute.
if you do the work...pay attention in class and take good notes you will easily get a B...give out a bunch of extra credit at the end of the semester to help you out..can call him at home anytime and is willing to meet with you after class
I thought the class was easy. Didnt use the book at all. I called him at home several times when I missed class and he explained everything. Tests are easy, dont know why everyone says theyre hard? Missed 8 classes, skipped the project, and didn't do any extra cedit and got a B+.
very fast paced class...tests are long and you really need to study for them. pay attention and take good notes and you'll be fine. very helpful and makes sure everyone in the class understands material. gives lots of good examples to help you understand!!
Difficult teacher to like. Doesn't use computers in anyway, hard to get in contact with. Very old-fashioned. Class isn't that hard, but I felt like I was on Little House On The Prarie, completly different teaching style.
Great professor! The class was pretty easy to follow, just make sure you go because he has his own notes/way of teaching. Overall relatively easy as long as you take notes and study them. He's also really helpful if you seek him out.
Prof Baker loves to teach, he has a passion which is always a plus, i took the micro and macro together so there was a lot of stuff crammed into one sememster. He gives a little EC and will always talk after class, and you can call him at home, wasn't really easy, but not bad, he's a good dude.
Everything is explained well with everyday examples. You will do well on tests if you just take good notes and study.
Tough class. Entire grade based on three tests and a final exam. Did not follow the book very much. If you are not interested in Economics, do not take this class.
Good prof, study for the tests and take good notes and you should do good. and take advantage of any extra credit, cause it's usually not to difficult and helps a little bit.
GREAT TEACHER... Study for tests and TAKES NOTES in class. He knows his stuff and explains is well.
Baker not only shows his understanding of Economics but you can tell he enjoys teaching it too! He makes everything incredibly easy to understand and he's very laid back & willing to help. Just be sure to take the notes & study for the tests. If you pay attention tests are easy - but its hard to BS a good grade if you dont come to class. Great prof
He's a pretty good teacher, can really tell he cares about the subject and how he teaches it.
Prof. Baker knows this subject and teaches it well. Try to come to class everyday because the notes he goes through in class are really important and he gives you hints as to what kind of questions might be on the tests. Study hard for tests and you should do fairly well in the class.
If you took micro (211) first, don't take this guy. He will make macro (210) harder, when it is supposed to be easier. Classes are very boring, and I didn't learn much that I didn't already learn in micro.
Baker is very clear and loves what he teaches. Very laid back and willing to work with you on tests and what not. He's very fun and peppy :) Great teacher.
Great Prof. Not an EASY A but definately will help you. He tells you what will be on the tests during lecture and is very clear about test materail beforehand. Makes Econ interesting. Definately take him.
He is a great prof, not extreamly esay but very helpful if you don't understand. He doesn't try to trick you on the exams. Overall i would give him an A-.
His handwriting is horrible which makes taking notes nearly impossible. Goes off on random tangents and things completely unrelated to ECON. The only thing he was clear about was the class project. Little to no homework, exams are pretty easy. Take this class with someone else.
Baker was great. He really knew his stuff and used helpful analogies to further your understanding of topics in the class. His handwriting can be a bit hard to read but he will rewrite it if you ask him. Tests are fair and come right out of the notes and the questions from the book
Wouldn't reccomend. Handwriting is illegible, teaches from his head, and talks very fast. Hard to understand, tough grader, tests are quite difficult.
Very hard to understand his lectures. Taking notes will not help on tests. Tests results are different from what he says and what our book says. Terrible hand writing.
Great prof. No powerpoints (thank god the man can't work a computer). Though his hand writing takes some getting used to, he will take time to explain or go over anything in class you might have questions on. Exams were straight from the notes, so as long as you attend class and pay attention you will do fine.
He is a nice guy, and he tries to make class interesting. However, he moves pretty quickly with notes, and tries to cram too much info. into one lecture. Exams are not too tough, though, and there is no other homework. I would take him again.
Baker is a good guy... and IF you pay attention and take notes, he goes over EVERYTHING in his lectures by the way. Take him, he can drag on a little, but what old man doesn't. He means well and def has an interest in what hes teaching..
Loved him. He does talk a little fast, but he'll go over anything you don't understand, and none of his exams included anything that he didn't go over in the lectures. He's hilarious, too.
Really nice guy, really funny and made econ actually interesting. Aside from that the class was pretty hard. His handwriting is impossible to read, and tests have trick/misworded questions on them. No homework to help out your grade - Just a few tests including midterm, final and one project. He's Ok, but i would try to find a better prof.
I have him for Geography at Calvin. He's my favorite teacher I've ever had- very clear, tests aren't too hard if you study and he makes his subject interesting. I'm actually now considering being a geography major because of his class :)
he is a very good and cool professor. he is very funny and tries to keep a very boring topic somewhat interesting. this was actually my favorite class last semester because of him. its not hard if you look over the notes that he gives you
He was an awesome professor. Sometimes his notes and handwriting get a little messy and hard to read, but it's pretty much common sense. His tests arn't too bad and he ALWAYS gives extra credit which means an easy A!
He wasn't too bad. The only downside is your grade is based on 3-4 tests and one assignment. You don't get a study guide for the tests, but study your notes and you'll be fine. The final was a little harder than the other tests, but you get a study guide for the final, so as long as you study that and know the info, you should be fine.
Didn't really like him at all. Lectures were very dry, impossible to read his hand writing, and your grade is based on 3 tests and your final...don't take him if your a bad test taker or if you don't want your GPA to drop a couple points.
The prof. was very unorganized. I should've had an A in the class because I only did bad on one test (a C) and the rest were 100% and still ended up with a B+. He requires A LOT OF WORK. BUSY WORK YOU WILL NOT EVEN HAVE TO KNOW. The class gets overwhelming because he wants to cover everything. Nice guy, not the most organized professor though.
Professor Baker is a great econ teacher. He does a great job of clearly presenting the information and making it understandable. The grade is based off 3-4 tests, but he gives a few extra credit opportunities to make up for it. If you study your notes, you will be fine on the exams. Attendance is mandatory. Doesn't use BB.
Tests were hard and unclear so study everything that you can read (he writes chickenscratch) good guy but definitely old school
A great teacher. He is very clear and overgoes the economics of relevent issues like the housing crisis. He makes an esoteric subject interesting. The best part is the entire grade is 3 tests, no homework. Interestingly, he is the father of one of my favorite teacher's from high school.
he gives lots of examples which are extremely helpful. The only knock on this guy is he has messy handwriting, but he says everything as he writes it, so its no biggie. His tests are fairly easy, just make sure to be thorough on the short answer portion of the test
Very old and definitely old school. Never checks email and doesnt use blackboard. Very frustrating! I dont recommend him. He needs to retire.
Very cool and interesting guy. Old school kind of guy but he teaches very well and clear. You do have to put a little bit of effort to get an A but not too much. Doesn't use blackboard or email so thats a negative, but overall I'm glad I had him as a professor. Would deff. take him again.
Awesome old funny dude! class is really easy, just like 3 tests and really easy side assignments. Gives out PLENTY of extra credit opportunities. If you don't come to class and don't study for test you wont do well...but hey its college get used to it
Really nice and helpful. Show up to class, take notes, and study for exams and you'll do great. My favorite professor of the semester.
Means well, uses a lot of examples but not clear cut examples. Confuses you more than they help.
Very nice guy, funny. Class is kind of boring. No homework. If you study you should do fine. He has messy handwriting, but says everything he writes. I would take him again.
this class was way to dumb. i would never take him again. his lectures are extremly boring and the things he teaches he could teach in twenty minutes instead of an hour if he didnt go off on the most boring rants about things that do not pertain to the class whatsoever. no mercy on grading either. last test class average was a d+. no curve given.no
Expect the professor to have bad hand writing. Trys to keep things interesting, but often does not succeed making the class pretty boring. Not very clear on whats on the test, so you have to pay attention the whole time or you miss things.
The class was very straight forward. Show up (mandatory), take notes, and pay attention! Your whole grade is 4 exams including the final. His exams aren't that long mostly multiple choice, and a few short answer. He also offers some extra credit. He can go off on tangents during his lectures but most of the time it has purpose. Overall, take him.
He was amazing. He is so funny and he is very clear with his expectations. He is so helpful if you need questions to be answered even on weekends. Take him!
He does a really good job of explaining everything and making sure everyone understands it. He has long, pretty hard tests. Can be boring at times, but overall, I learned a lot from him.
Baker's class was very boring, but all his tests were directly from his lectures. HE DOES NOT USE BLACKBOARD/EMAIL AT ALL, which is really just inconvenient. He loves going off on tangents about his personal life that aren't particularly interesting and don't have anything to do with the class material. Overall, I did not enjoy this class.
Very old school teacher. You know what to expect on exams. I used the book only to look up terms. Overall I enjoyed the class and would take it with him again if I had to.
he is a goofy guy that is passionate about what he teaches and makes class humorous. go to class because the notes get you an A even though they are scattered at times. his tests are a little difficult but nothing impossible; he wants you to do well...he is not really quick to respond to emails
He's not the most organized but if you can keep up with his handouts, you'll do fine. Exams are difficult if you don't study. DO ALL OF THE STUDY GUIDES. Not a *difficult* class. He's a funny older gentleman. I enjoy hearing his stories. He'll give extra credit if you ask. Helpful but you have to call him at home- no blackboard/email.
Baker is a great professor. He tries to go outside of the box and keep thins interested. He is not the most organized person but if you keep up with the handouts and reading you'll be fine. Highly suggest taking this class!
Horrible teacher, only grade you get is from your tests. Tests are confusing and worded wrong. He is rude and not helpful at all. Take him if you want to fail.
LOVED Prof Baker! He's such a nice guy and truly loves young people! He takes attendance everyday so be sure to come to class! You are mostly in charge of writing your own notes and it is VERY IMPORTANT to write down as many notes as possible! Tests can be difficult, but if you take good notes and study you should do fine! Highly recommended!!
This class might seem easy when you first start off, but you soon find out that is not the case. His tests are incredibly long and difficult. The main problem is that he covers so much material between tests and it is hard to retain all the information. There is no homework ONLY TESTS so if that isn't your style, find someone else
Good Prof, doesnt go into as much detail as I personally like but he is still a great Prof and is very clear. Gives great life lessons and advice all while still teaching you the very basics of Macro Economics. Great Prof, and an even better Man. Would recommend him.
Professor Baker was pretty good. If you're someone, like me, who is terrible at econ in general, he is probably not a good choice. When writing on the white board his hand writing looks like he puts the marker between his butt cheeks and writes. Yeah it's that bad, but just stay after class and ask what he had written. Super nice and helpful.
Prof Baker is fine. I was lucky because I took macroecon first with a great prof- if you didn't .... good luck. He is just sort of scattered throughout the lecture. His grading criteria is NOT well defined. But he gives lots of examples in his lecture and overall, it isn't a hard class. Reading isn't necessary. He'll cover what you need in class.
Dave is a really fun guy and makes the subject enjoyable. I'd definitely suggest him and will take him again!
I liked Prof Baker. There are 3 exams and the cumulative final. He doesn't give review guides for the exams but he does for the final. The exams are not too bad. His hand writing is sometimes hard to read, but just ask him. He gives quite a few extra credit opportunities which is nice. He also is pretty funny.
He is one of the nicest guys you will ever know. He is the classic old teacher. His tests are hard and he grades them pretty hard. He does not know how to use a computer so you do not find out what your total grade is until the end of the semester. He gives some extra credit out.
Very nice individual. I am a straight A student and he wrecked my 4.0 GPA. I ended up with a B in the class. I put in so much time studying for each exam, with my highest score being an 86%. Never will take again. Beware: gives study guides and says to use the textbook in order to pass test. The only material on the test is his notes!
I enjoyed Prof. Baker as a person more than as a professor. He is a little scattered and switches back and forth a lot, which makes class a little confusing. He gives nice little life lessons, good examples, and he is willing to help and accommodate for you. He gives study guides for the readings which is very helpful but there's a lot of material.
I've had David Baker twice now an have been pleased with his teaching style. He is a little scattered at times. However, if you take notes and read the book you will do just fine! He has lots of funny stories and keeps class interesting. There are few chances to earn points but lots of extra credit. I would suggest taking! Just don't think to deep.
AFWUL professor. Does not have a blackboard page and you can only contact him through a HOME PHONE. His lectures are pointless because you don't learn anything, and his tests are so hard that 2/3 of the class will fail the test and he will refuse to curve the grade even a little bit. WORST PROF EVER
Class is based on 3 tests. His tests are difficult and pretty confusing, but his lectures are so great he makes every concept so clear and provides several examples to help you better understand the material. He provides extra credit opportunities, but they're usually only worth one or two points.
The most frustrating thing for me was that he did not use blackboard or email. You had to call him on his home phone. Due to the lack of Bb I never knew what my grade actually was, and when he showed me my grades the way he graded made no sense to me. The class is based off 3 tests and a final with a couple extra credit opportunities.
Antiquated professor who needs to learn how to use Blackboard and PowerPoint or a computer. The amount of work required for minimal points of extra credit is ridiculous. Your entire grade is dependent on tests alone.
He does handouts about every class with fill in the blank, and it is almost guaranteed that all the information on the handouts will be on the exams. Make sure you attend class because he does keep track of attendance. He is extremely easy-going and offers extra credit. I would highly recommend taking him.
I've always gotten good grades throughout college, but Professor Baker destroyed my GPA with that class. Studied my butt off to have my highest test score be an 80%. All tests based off his notes, has HORRIBLE handwriting, and the whole class is based off exams.
Prof. Baker knows what he's doing. He always writes the notes on the board so make sure you have plenty of paper. He gives extra credit opportunities and most worksheets are credit/no credit. He can be pretty funny but he's definitely old-school. Nothing online. If you need to reach him you have to CALL his house lol
Baker was one of the best profs I have had so far! He made this class so interesting I added Economics on as a second major. He is funny and really makes things simple. Although his hand writing is hard to read, he works hard to make sure everybody understands before moving on. He only has a few tests, and they are based purely on his lectures.
Doesn't use blackboard or note PowerPoints, the entire grade in the class is based off exams. has the WORST handwriting I have ever seen so good luck taking notes. if you have to contact him outside of class you have to call him at his house phone.
Such a sweet man. If you go see him in office hours he really does care about you. NEED to be in class bcuz attendance and lecture notes. No blackboard or emailing. You have to call his home phone. Very willing to help, whole grade is pretty much exams, based all off his notes. Tells you exam questions. Offers tons of E.C. but is a lot of work.
Professor Baker is a great prof. He gets off topic occasionally, but he is definitely willing to explain things more than once. He will work with you and do whatever he can to help you get a good grade. I had some sickness in the family and he was super understanding, even letting me push back tests and the final exam bc I missed class due to that.
Professor Baker is great. He made me enjoy Econ which I thought I hated, because he makes everything so easy to understand. He writes on the board a lot, so always be ready to take notes, and don't be afraid to ask him to clarify things for you. Only frustration is that he doesn't use his email. Tests are straightforward and he gives extra credit!
Not a bad professor, he's pretty cool, however his lectures can get boring and he goes off topic sometimes. The thing I really don't like about him is that his handwriting is chicken scratch-mediocre and he knows it. As an addition, he doesn't give very good outlines for his exams and they are miles apart from each other overall, nice guy.
Dave is a great teacher but his tests are pretty tough. I took him for micro and macro econ. You get maybe 3 homework assignments, which are all pretty easy. He doesnt use blackboard so you have to keep track of your grade yourself or ask him how you're doing. If you study you will do fine.
His class is specifically set up so that you have to attend or you will struggle to pass. He makes Econ pretty easy to understand, but can be boring at times. Only grades on three tests and one project. He uses no technology so you have to call him if you need to get in contact and doesn't use blackboard. Overall, nice guy.
If you skip class more than 3 times he starts deducting points form your exams. He is a nice guy who really knows econ, but he can get off topic often. His tests can be pretty tricky, but if you take good notes and read some of the book then they are not impossible. He only grades from 3 tests and one assignment, so the test can be nerve wrecking.
He's pretty good. Funny and engaging. Offers extra credit. Save your money and skip the book. This class is doable, but it can be difficult if you miss class or zone out for even a second because he doesn't do powerpoints and his handwriting is awful. Still really helpful.
Baker is engaging, entertaining, and gives lots of resources and opportunities for extra credit. However, his handwriting isn't good, so pay attention to what he says. Doesn't do power points or blackboard, so if you miss a class, may be hard to catch back up. Doesn't by the connect code, he doesn't assign hw.
Doesn't use blackboard or anything technological at all. DO NOT buy the connect code because you won't use it. He is very funny and tries to relate Econ to things kids care about. Has terrible handwriting but you get used to it, you just have to pay attention. Knows his stuff and wants you to understand it too. Class is graded off of a few things.
Baker is very knowledgeable about economics but if you TRULY care about getting a good grade in this class, I would take someone else. It is very unorganized, too many papers being thrown at you to memorize for each exam, and it doesnt help that his handwriting is messy. You have to do good on the 3 exams since it is your WHOLE grade.
He was a fantastic prof and made me look forward to a 8:30 AM. Such a nice guy and was more than willing to work with me when I missed classes due to my Grandmas passing. Only grades tests & gives EC so that can be stressful but his tests are fair if you attend class & take notes. Seriously the sweetest old man who cares & loves his job- no BB tho
Baker has handwriting that is almost impossible to read and his notes are not helpful for the tests because he gives you way more information than what was necessary to know on the tests.
