This is a really great class with a really great teacher. Be careful though as it is high maintence. I got a A, but ended up with 2 C's in my other classes. I liked this one the most because the teacher is so great. The class teaches very useful things.

Incredible teacher....he does get rather emotional about subjects such as war and the environment. (he did run for auditor under the green party) He is a lot of fun and a rather easy prof if you are willing to learn

Dave is the best teacher at Inver Hills. The only reason I continued to finish my Associates there. Anything he teaches is interesting & he is very knowledgable about what he says. He doesn't just read from a book he teaches from experience and the truth. If I could I would take moreof his classes.

Great professor. You have to make a commitment to focus on doing the reading and work to succeed. Not laid back. Don't want to read? It is not for you. There are 4 books for semester. Even with the amount of work, highly recommended but would consider that info when signing up for other classes.

He's fun and wants to lisson to you. But it is a interactive class, so if your shy, pass on by!

Speaking as a Social Exchange Theorist; Mr. Berger does what ever benefits himself. He grades papers when ever he feels like it. He cut class twice because he had to rehearse for a school play that he got involved in. He does ALL the talking in class, leaving little room for anyone else to get a word in edgewise. I learned a lot in his class!

I transferred from Inver over 3 years ago to SJU and Dave was the best prof. I had through my entire college career. Great information and discussion. He often teaches with his political views evident which can rub people the wrong way. But if you agree with him or can pay attention to the information given with an open mind you'll enjoy him.

I love DAVE! He was so innovating and captivating! He's a great teacher!

Dave is a great professor. I never thought I would actually enjoy going to class until I took criminal justice with him. If you have the chance to take a class with him,do it! I highly recommend taking any available course with him.

I couldn't wait to go to his class actually! I took it over the summer, fun fun fun. He is extremely smart and full of knowledge. Our final was on the movie Supersize Me! Very down to earth, swore in class, really a fun guy :)

I wish Dave would branch out into other areas. I would enjoy taking any course from him. There are some instructors you will miss as you go on and he is one that is like that. There is a lot of reading. You work for your grade in this class and should plan the rest of your schedule with that in mind. The up side is that you will learn so much!

I loved Dave... took this class a year ago and still every day I think to examples he gave, stories he told, articles he made us read, never have had a better teacher in my life and has been the first person thats stimulated my mode of thinking and really altered it. You do have to read but hw in this class was fun, not work.

Dave is a fun teacher. I go to class knowing im going to actually learn something. Dave keeps your attention! He is great to listen to, his jokes are great, and personality is A+! HOWEVER, do know you will have to READ, be sure to read just to follow class. I got 2 weeks left in his class. And wish there were more weeks left!

Dave is a great teacher. He makes you understand things without writing notes. He is always there to help you, and cares about cultures and religions of others. He cracks me up with his jokes and actions he gives. Lets just say he is off the hook. Take him even you don't even need that class, you won't be dissapointed.

This class was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately we didn't get to learn about all the religions he wanted to study. So, Night Flying Woman was pointless to get, since we never read it, or really studied the culture. I also wanted to have more speakers in the class, but that didn't work out either. Overall, this class was really fun!

I enjoyed this class very much and appreciated the style of teaching. I also appreciated the amount of work and that answers required research and thought. I recommend this class and this professor to many. I cannot think of a significant negative comment regarding to the class.

Dave was pretty cool. Sometimes he had an unfortunate way of going off topic into bizarre rants, but usually he was pretty interesting. I learned a lot and he tests and grades fairly.

Dave was a great teacher.He was fun and kind of out there but he still kept to a schedule and we still learned a lot.Because of this class I love Sociology now, I think it's fascinating and I chose a career kind of based on this class. He does a fantastic job showing the injustices and prejudices in many cultures around, including our own! Showing these actions I really think is important for students to learn. I enjoyed his class very much, and hope to take more sources of his.

My favorite part of Dave's class is that I learn something new and interesting everytime we have class.The stuff we learn is useful everyday knowledge that alot of people don't know. I feel like this class opened my eyes. My least favorite part was the readings in the Macionis tex, they were too long. I liked the Henslin book alot!

The best thing about this course was the great discussion and the variety of topics discussed in regards to sociology. Instructor was very passionate about the subject! The reading were appropriate, i would get rid of the Censored 2008 book though. Worst thing about the class was that it was hard to take good notes on messy board

Good teacher, although it takes a while to get assignments back

Great teacher, explains things well, give great examples from the "real world". Helps to break down what is accepted w/o question by society. Can get off -track in class. Stays on the syllabus...mostly. Class is enjoyable, is helpful to freshman students. Articles were good, reading like that is good to force students to be responsible.

Overall i enjoyed this class. Dave is pretty funny, and the class is always interesting. Bad hand writting on board though.

Maybe it was because it was a LCOM Class Sociology of Religion but the maturity level of my classmates actually kept me from attending half a class one day...I finally lost it. Berger gets credit for being patient. He was also concerned about the health condition of my mom, which was nice. Double scheduling site visits, awesome. Good job.

At times I thought this class was too short. It did not seem like an hour and 40 minute class. The teacher made it interesting and fun to attend class. I enjoyed the Freedom Writers Diary selection the best. It is an amazing book! I had a hard time with the very first article we read. It reads like stereo instructions.

Dave makes this class fun to be in and made sociology easy to learn for me. I would recommend him for a teacher to anyone.

Daves class can be difficult if you dont do the assignments, but you learn alot from him.

I really liked some of the readings from the Henslin book, but I also did not like Articles #3 or #1. Freedom Writers was a fun book to read, as well as the Censored 2008. This was a very interesting class, but in a great way.

Dave is extremely knowledgeable in this field. He is very opinionated which makes the class more enjoyable and he obviously has a passion for it.

The best part of the course was the activities the professor had us do to go along with the lessons. The worst part of the course was all the readings that had to be done.

My favorite thing about the class was that we learned material that we will use in life and the teacher kept you wanting to learn more with how outgoing he was. My least favorite thing was to much reading outside class.

I really enjoyed coming to class. The material we covered was interesting and I feel like I will actually remember it. This was the only class that I felt energized after leaving; like I could put the information to use. My only negative comment....I felt like there was too much reading material.

I really enjoyed Dave's class. It kept me excited and was a class I definitely looked forward to, so much that the class went by fast in two hours. He's not going to take high school attitudes, it is a COLLEGE class!! Makes sense... does'nt it? Yep, pretty sure it does, were not in 10th grade anymore. I would definitely reccomend Dave. :)

Everything in this class was very good, except that we did not finish all the topics that we suppost to cover. the books were very useful. And I always have the facility to talk with my teacher, I really enjoy this class.

Probably one of the most memorable and best professors I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Yes, his class requires an intense amount of reading, but it is well worth it. I dreaded taking sociology for years from bad advice from a friend in undergrad. This class was required for a program I was just accepted to and I couldn't be happier that I took it with Dave Berger. The three hour class zipped by and I can honestly say I learned. I already have a four year degree and this class was in my top two ever taken.

The Henslin book was awesome...although the final article we had to do was albiet sort of dry and unintersting...however, I actually really liked the class...especiall Tigger day

I really enjoyed reading the Henslin Articles- very interesting. Mr. Berger is a very energetic, humorous and passionate teacher. He is going to be a tough act to follow when I start my fall classes. I WILL take more of his classes

Fabulous Instructor! I wasn't looking forward to taking the class but I ended up loving it. Dave makes learning interesting, fun, and easy to learn. The class is a lot of work that you must do in order to succeed but its worth it, I've never learned and enjoyed a gen ed in the past like I did this one. Greatest teacher I ever had! His class was a little bit difficult, but that's how college should be. If you're considering taking his class, don't hesitate. He's funny and his class is just fun to take.

Once you take one of his calsses, you will want to take another! He is hilarious and knows everything there is to know about sociology. A brilliant man with a brilliant way of teaching. Take his class.

The instructor gives great examples by having students participate to understand better. Make sure you participate (especially in any skits...free food!), and read the books! Don't show up late for his class because late people are LAME. A unique thing about Dave is that he has the students make the syllabus (with veto power of course)!

Prof. Berger's main goal is to teach and be sure you learn. He is diligent, holds you accountable, is very passionate about sociology and knows the topic well! I learned so much and he was supportive when I was not catching on. Invests a lot of his time in his students.

I took the class online. This professor and class was amazing! It was tough, but he provides lectures online which helps tremendously. I learned the most in this class out of all of mine so far. His teaching style is very involved and offers a lot of feedback. If you need to take a sociology class... take one with Prof. Berger!!

Dave made the information easy to remember by giving a lot of examples and using class discussion. There's reading but its not hard reading. Very fair....I would take another one of his classes he offers.

If there was a perfect teacher out there it would definitely be Dave hands down. People think his class is hard, but those are the people who don't want to work. He helps you understand and learn and is makes everything fun. I had him for a 4hr class and I swear it felt like the shortest class I had. Make sure you read & go to class. It is college!

This prof. made a three and a half hour night class go by very quickly. He truly knows and cares about what he teaches. Laughter is common in his class room but not to stray away from the point of being there. A great and fun way to learn about sociology.

DAVE is AWESOME he is a great teacher, he is random as hell but he gets his point across, all the exams are more focused on the chapters in the book, while our class discussions were more focused on other stuff. Very nice, very funny, very scattered. TAKE THIS PROF!!!

Dave's sociology 1101 class was life-changing, in that I was awakened to my own underlying prejudices. One of my top classes. I strongly recommend his class.

This class was a hybrid. Online and on campus. Dave Berger is highly enthusiastic and motivating. I had never been into Sociology nor was I a fan after beginning to learn about it. Prof. Berger has made Sociology interesting and very fun. It is a lot of hard work and a lot of reading but it was completely worth it.

Dave was a great professor. He was very passionate about the subject Social inequalities. He used a combination of teaching tools such as movies, podcasts and books together these made the class very interesting.

This class was challenging and required that I stay on top of everything because the volume of work allowed no time to catch up should I fall behind. That being said, it was extremely informative and enjoyable. Dave is very enthusiastic about the subject matter (social inequality) which makes it easier to stay interested myself. A great teacher!

Great instructor, very lenient yet has reasonable expectations. This class is ALL about learning, there are no hidden agendas, no irrelevant expectations, it's all about acquiring knowledge on the subject. Berger is the best professor I've ever had. He gave me a new-found interest in sociology that I never expected to have. He's a very interactive professor and his classes aren't like most. Super funny, super smart. I learned so much, and would highly recommend. For tests, you have to read the articles, but a lot is based on stuff he says in class.

Awesome class. You will definitely learn something. More teachers should take on his style of teaching. Grades fairly easy, but is a little slow to get grades back. To do well on tests you need to be in class and read the articles assigned. He will never give out answers for tests so make sure to take good notes in class.

He is a there for you when you need him, understands students and really helps open your world to a much bigger picture. Would take any of his classes 5 times over and get a different experience every time! But get your reading done!!!

His lectures are entertaining and well put out. The way he teaches makes you want to not skip class and its good because although it is not mandatory he explains in depth what the books are about. There is a lot of reading. It's a 2 hour course and it goes by quick because he's entertaining the whole time.

I took Dave's online course this semester and he is a great professor! Expect to work for your grade, heavy reading and a decent amount of homework. The great thing is, he really seems to want to help and you learn a lot. He's very thorough and you won't miss a beat if you keep up! Definitely recommend!

I very much dislike social studies classes, but Dave Berger is by far the best professor I have had in my life. Period. He makes use of all the text but calls for feedback and discussion often. This man should be the standard of what a college professor should be.

Excellent Teacher! Took an Intro to Sociology class online with him. Each week you listen to 1-4 Podcasts (lectures) which can be looooonnnnnggggg. Lots of reading. Each week you post on discussion board a list of questions. This is equal to writing a paper each week. Slow grader. I learned a lot from this professor.

He's amazing. It's hard to find a professor who is more driven and enthusiastic about his career than Mr. Berger. I would highly encourage anyone who is even slightly interested in sociology to take his class.

Class was one day a week (not mandatory attendance) and homework was to listen to a 2-3 hr podcast every week & read textbook and engage in online discussions. MUST read certain % of posts and post by deadlines, easy 100%. Once you understand the structure of his class & how to navigate through it weekly much easier. Interesting & fun professor!

My first year as a college student and Mr Berger is a brilliant proffesor. Very open minded and realistic when it comes to our society and very very very educated on other cultural and religious stuff. His class is my favorite, and he is the type of proffesor where a lecture can be 3 hours long but you dont wanna leave because he is great

This was my first year at college and Mr. Berger was a great teacher to help ease me into college, Sociology was one of those classes that I actually wanted to go because it was a fun class and I highly recommend having him as a teacher.

This is the only class ever where I would actually get sad if it got canceled. This professor is so interesting and has an awkward like sense of humor. One of the textbooks he assigns (blue) could be helpful, but you could definitely get away without reading, as long as you listen in class. The yellow textbook, however, is very important for tests.

Dave is a fantastic professor; He's very caring of his students and passionate about what he teaches. Best professor I've had. It is important that you attend class to understand, but it's not mandatory. It is VERY important that you take good notes on the required readings. It's an easy class if you get your work done regularly and not last minute
