Very hard tests and quizzes
tough, hard grader, not so easy, needs to give more partial credit, needs to have tests more like the example problems on the homework
I've taken other stats classes and gotten A's. Dave does a great job of making you feel stupid if yo ask questions.
This guys belongs in the forrest!
Cool guy, crappy teacher. And he's anal rententive about every i being dotted and t crossed on tests. What would get a B with most professors gets a D with Dave. And he's never wrong, just ask him. Dave would be a great guy to watch a football game with, but don't take stats from him.

He was great! Not an easy class at all but he explained things well. If you work hard, you will do well. If you dont...you wont.
I really liked Dave. It was more important to go to the lab class, but I thought Dave was funny and if you listened explained the concepts very well.
Good teacher. Had to work hard for the A, but then that's the point, isn't it? Too many whiners flame profs if they don't get the grade they want. If you are struggling in the class, take a hard look at your study habits, interests, and IQ. Chances are you're coming up short in one of those areas. If not, then MAYBE the problem is the prof.
Tries to get to know the students and help them to understand the concepts.
Funny very good at explaining things. The recitation leaders can help you if you are struggling to understand. Anthonie is the best recitation leader.
He was a really good teacher. He made his class very dueable. He's pretty funny too.
Really good professor. Definitely knows his stuff. The lecture is not as important to go to as the recitation. Anthonie is by far the best one. Dave was willing to help whenever I went to his office. Really good guy.
As a junior at USU, Dave is the best teacher I've had to date. Great ability to explain things and relate to students. Takes a hard subject and makes it very understandable.
Loved it. He explains thing really really well. He is entertaining. Really good at teaching class even with 300 students.
Very clear, very funny and relaxed. Loved the class. I don't use the textbook because his lectures make it crystal clear.
Dave was one of the most useless professors I have had to date, and I'm a senior so that's saying a lot. He wasted class time with useless stories and if you went to his office hours he wasted your time there too because he was not helpful.
Dave was very good at explaining such a hard concept. The tests weren't hard because he didn't teach, they were hard because stats was hard. He will explain a concept as many times as you ask him to. My favorite part is that when he comes into class, it looks like he just hiked off a mountain and straight to class.
Solid teacher
Dave is wild. He once spent ten minutes of class pretending to talk to a boy behind the projector screen. He is humorous but he also teaches wild. It's tough to follow. The tests are hard too. But he does have a sweet mullet.
Dave is the best
Dave will try to explain the concepts until you understand them. The subject is difficult but he tries to make it fun.
Dave was one of my favorite professors at Utah State. He taught clearly and effectively, and was very helpful (and I'm not that great at math). I had him in Fall 1986 and Winter 1987 for Calculus. Even then, Dave was as reviewer 9/28/09 said, you would think he hiked off a mountain and straight into class.
He makes you feel very dumb if you ask a question. Wouldn't recommend him to anyone.
How on earth does this guy still have a job?
Dave is a good guy. I agree with the others that he looks like he parachutes to class everyday or something. He is kind of vague, and extremely critical on grading. I am pretty sure it is impossible to get full credit on his tests, even with the correct answers- He always found one little thing wrong. He is pretty funny, though, for his credit.
Great teacher, very understanding, teaches class well
Favorite teacher to date. His class was tough, but if you pay attention, he teaches it well. He doesn't "make you feel stupid if you ask a question," he's just funny. Get over yourself.
Sorry meant STAT2300, not ECON.
Dave is great. He teaches everything in a comprehensible manner, and if you go to class and take notes, you should have no problem on tests. The recitations are useful and the quizzes taken there are very helpful studying for tests. It is not impossible to achieve 100% on a test, as I have managed to.
He is NEVER wrong, even if you see a clear mistake on his grading.
First time I had his class I thought, "man, this guy is psycho!" But then again you kind of have to be to be a statistics professor :) Kudos to Dave Bregenzer, a man who does best what a handful of people in the world can; fully comprehend and teach Statistics while and most of all making it interesting!
Bregenzer is awesome! He is the funniest teacher I've ever had. A suspiciously large number of his exponential growth and decay functions have to do with the effect of drugs on the body. I really liked going to class, and between recitation and the old tests he gives you, it really isn't that hard if you study a little. I give his class an A.
Dave is an idiot. His jokes are aweful. He cannot teach. he often loses track of what he is talking about and wastes a lot of time. He is a grading nazi. Over half the stuff he teaches he never teaches you. Class is useless, you just have to use the textbook. If possible get anyone but dave. take anyone seriously!
Sometimes it felt as if he designed the tests for failure, but just an opinion. I studied countless hours and even had a tutor and still did not pass this course.
Dave teaching style is clear and concise, the examples used in class are reflections of what he will be on the test. His suggested problems are an excellent study tool. He is very clear about what you need to know. The easiest way to pass is to go every time, take good notes, and take the time to study concepts you don't understand.
I had him for business stats and calculus. For me he was very hard to follow. He would go off on something i would stop listening then all of the sudden i missed something important. His tests were very difficult. He does post materials like past exams to help study which are useful. He wasn't very good at giving a clear answer to questions though
Dude is hilarious! I want to party with this guy. If you pay attention and and take decent notes the tests and quizzes are easy...who wouldn't pay attention? His class is seriously like a comedy show
He explains things in the weirdest ways. He talks about the math in a really abstract way. I seriously learned everything from my recitation and book.
The class is very tough and he doesn't teach it very well. He goes off on tangents a lot, which are really funny, but if you aren't paying attention 100% of the time, you will miss stuff and have a tough time passing. His tests and quizzes are also pretty tough.
Almost everyone loves Dave. He'll stop and talk to you on campus too. Way nice. As far as teaching, he keeps your attention because he lectures really loud, which is perfect. You have to study though because the math department's tests are set up in a way to screw you. He's a great teacher, just STUDY and go to class. A study group is a great idea.
I love Dave! He is hilarious and sarcastic and everything a college professor should be. He really does try to put everything helpful out there for you to get the best possible grade. But there's not much he can do about the Math Department's tests. Quizzes are super easy as long as you do your homework but final is HARD. Study 3-4x per week.
I really liked this subject, however, I don't think that Dave presented it very well. I got by on previous knowledge. He often randomly goes off on unnecessary tangents. He's super hilarious.
Oh God! I wish I was related to him, he is so hilarious. He also goes to the gym every morning. When it's class time he is always trying to make us laugh. My favorite thing about this class, it that even though class is supposed to last for 1h and 15 min, he is so COOL than he only uses 20 minutes to teach. The rest is just him being AWESOME.
Dave is very hilarious, but I never felt like I learned much in his classes. I'm not a fan of his teaching method, but that may be in part to that fact that his class was in a large lecture hall and he would often talk about random things. I found the recitation classes more informative and learned more from them.
I absolutely loved him. He is so funny and has such a good way of presenting things. Do the homework and you will get a good grade no doubt.
I can't believe I had to take another class from Dave. Took 1050 and now stats from him-he didn't improve at all. Tests are ridiculous. He rambles in class. Good luck if you have him. Get ready to do lots of studying and learning on your own because he won't teach it very well.
Great teacher that keeps those that want to learn involved. The class is easy as long as you do the suggested homework and half way pay attention in class. He also has old exams that are helpful study guides for tests.
This teacher was a joke. He rambled in class, when reviewing for tests would not go over complicated problems, and the tests he makes are poorly set up. I passed this class with a 98% online in high school and am barely getting above a C in this class. If USU gives you any other options, don't take this class from Dave.
useless class. recitation was the only place where i learned anything, that and youtube videos. same as other comments; doesn't go over hard problems. he pretty much recites the simple examples from our textbooks.
Tough class. You will do well if you sit in the front and pay attention. He explains lots of theory and not very many examples. You need to do the homeworks (not manditory) to understand the material. He keeps all his old tests online for you to look at (back to Fall 2010). If he had more examples and didn't ramble he would be a better teacher.
He is often off topic with jokes of all kinds, but he teaches well. show up do the homework and get help if you start falling behind. Plus he offers old tests and final exams to review.REVIEW THEM often questions on the old ones are extremely similar to the new exams. Over all a great teacher!
Professor Bregenzer was very clear in his lectures on what would be important to know for exams, and he would teach those concepts very well. For every exams, he offered 3-4 past exam keys that were very helpful in preparing for the tests. My only complaint would be that the standard for an A is 95%.
He only did a few questions per chapter and then he expects you to teach yourself the rest. He acted like people were dumb when they asked questions. Very hard for me to learn anything in there.
He is a good person- but a terrible math teacher. I never learned in his class- it would take him a good 15 minutes to even start explaining a problem, which could have been taught in 5 minutes. He wastes alot of time in his classes. I only learned in recitation- never in lecture.
Horrible Teacher!!! He doesn't teach well at all and doesn't care about helping you either!
If you are signed up for one of his classes switch classes. I've taken 1050 and Stats 2300 from him and they were both awful.
He was a decent person, but his teaching ability wasn't very good. He spent the majority of the class cracking jokes and not really teaching the material.
If you thought you understood math, you haven't been to Dave's class. I do pretty well with math but I would walk out of Dave's class confused about a subject I previously understood. He likes to spend a lot of time explaining what not to do. Does the easy examples and neglects the more challenging questions. Terrible teacher.
He does not go over the material very well, and his tests are set up to fail as many people as possible.
Great teacher. Do all the homework and study past tests.
Dave has an eccentric personality, not your typical college professor. Presents the material in a clear manner, the material is just difficult to understand because of the hardness of statistical understanding. Recitation is provided and beneficial. Quiz and test questions are similar to examples given in the notes.
If you have other options regarding teachers to take a class from, choose the others. Dave is an awful teacher. I did all the homework and saw a math tutor 2 times a week and reviewed a lot for tests and I still never did well on any of his tests. He jokes around too much in class and sucks at explaining things. Not a good teacher in my opinion.
often questions whether he's doing it right (normally its right but he spends a good 5 minutes deciding it)Doesn't seem like he wants to teach that much, just wants to joke around. If you can take it from someone else do it for your benefit.
Dave teaches in a way that i feel just helps things click. He jokes but it makes a normally boring math class bearable. Attendance is key to both class and recessitation but after that its just solidifying concepts. He also keeps past exams and quizzes in course reserve to help study which i found SO HELPFUL! One of my favorite math teachers so far
Dave teaches with worksheets and examples. He teaches concepts that way. I personally love that teaching style and even though it's wasn't easy, class was super fun.
I took stats before so much to me the concepts were explained well, but he didn't always give the later concepts the time they needed. He grades mostly on tests, with very little homework. You also don't need a graphing calculator, which is nice. Dave is very friendly and keeps class fun. He is more than willing to answer any question.
Go to recitation and do the homework. Study using the past exams and you should do fine.
I really liked Dave Bregenzer! He was really willing to work with you. He did ramble on sometimes in lecture. but if you go to recitation and do the homework, it's not that bad. Whenever I didn't understand something, it was usually cleared up in Recitation. Also, pro tip--the practice exams will prepare you really well for the actual exams.
Dave's way of explaining things is confusing and unorganized. He fills your mind with more information than necessary and makes test questions confusing and significantly more difficult than the problems practiced during class. His classes are uninteresting and hard to focus in. It was an overall bad experience.
I often left class more confused than when I entered. I learned everything on-line and in recitation.
Great professor! He's really good at explaining things, and won't hesitate to answer your questions. He is very clear about what to expect in the class, and he's a fair grader. Plus, he cracks jokes :) Excellent teacher all around.
I took 1050 from Dave last year. He is an excellent teacher. If you read your text book, go to the lectures, and do your homework you'll get a really good grade. I didn't work that hard and I got an A-. Some people say he's a bad teacher. These people probably won't make it past their freshmen year in school. ECE major, Sophmore year
I can't stand Dave as a teacher. He's a nice person and he's pretty funny, but he wasn't very clear and he made simply math confusing.
Great professor, helped me understand math in a way that I never have been able to before.
Well organized and knows exactly what student should know for the next course , his goal is to prepare them for the next level math love him
I didn't like math before this class but after, I hated it even more. He is not clear and no very helpful. In lectures sit as close to the front as possible, he uses the board even in auditorium sized rooms
I'm not sure if I can blame him for the hard test grades, since I know that's partly the recitation instructor's job. Anyway, he's a nice guy, but I never really learned anything in those lectures. For me, there wasn't enough practice in the lecture, so you just sit there and try to learn how to do the equations just by listening to him.
Hard to teach a 1050 class as big as he does. Has a good sense of humor and wants to help students. Lectures are sometimes confusing and take a weird path to get their point across. Recitations are helpful if you attend. Really nice guy, just got stuck teaching a bad class.
His lectures were incredibly unhelpful and long. He takes a full hour and 15 mins to cover four problems. He dives into the unnecessary concepts that makes the class fall asleep and just confuses students. His problems in class are nothing like what's on the exams either.
Dave is by far the worst teacher that I have had so far in my college experience. He is very difficult to follow in class, and goes off on things that don't matter. When you go into his office to ask for help or advice in passing the class he is very rude and makes you feel extremely uncomfortable and dumb. I hated this class with everything in me.
His class wasn't that difficult, just very unorganized.
Dave took a very long time on the in class worksheets but his lectures were very helpful. He looked at every angle so it was confusing a little bit. I learned better in my recitation class. I liked Dave and he kept my attention.
His teaching style is very hard to follow.
Tons of my classmates seemed to complain that his lectures were unclear or that he didn't provide enough examples in class. I found that he gave 2-3 really in depth examples that you should take good notes for. (Which isn't difficult he gives you a guided note-guide every lecture) Stay on top of the homework and you will do great.
The professor goes on random tangents daily and often takes an hour and half to explain a concept that could have been explained simply in twenty minutes. For this reason, I found the recitation instructors and office hours to be more helpful than the actual class.
Homework is not graded at ALL. Do it all anyway. . .if you want to pass. The tests are usually pretty difficult. Complete the homework sections before your Recitation classes, you take quizzes in there often.
Unclear, confusing, and unwilling to help. Dont bother going to class because you learn more in recitation. Lectures are long and boring and didnt learn a thing from them. Its all about the recitation.
His lectures are very confusing. He makes it very difficult to understand the already tough material. Do not take this class if you want a teacher that will help you understand math better.
I hate math. Hate it! But for some reason, I finally got it the semester. Dave is a good professor, hes been doing this a long time! In fact he probably taught my dad math 30 years ago. Pay attention in class and recitation and you should be fine. He gives you literally every opportunity to be successful, including telling exactly the exam is on
Dave is a great teacher! He does a great job at helping you understand the material. Although tests are hard, you don't go into them blindly. His recitations are very helpful as well. Hard class if you aren't good at math, but he's the one to take it from.
Dave is a really great professor. Very down to earth, helpful and hilarious! His quizzes & exams are actually pretty easy. As he said, he is "not very creative when it comes to making questions for tests & exams". Therefore, always study the handouts and past exams he gives. Would definitely take his class again!
Wont get much from the lectures. I learned more from the recitation class hearing peers explain it better. Never asked him for help. Usually if someone asks him about a problem he will just ramble on for a long time.
If you don't know the material I guess he would be really hard to learn from. I don't have a problem with math so I just go to recitation and do fine, but people looking to learn material have struggled all semester and have reportedly learned more in the recitation than in the actual class.
I guess he was pretty good for a math teacher. The homework isn't graded, but if you do it it makes the tests pretty easy. I have no regrets taking it from him and would do so again.
You don't have to do the homework but you should for practice. His lectures were the most stressful thing I have ever had to go to. He will be teaching and then will change the subject that has nothing to do with math. He will show you steps to a problem and then say "oh wait, that's wrong."
Dave is my favorite professor I have had so far. His lectures are hilarious; if there was a minor at Utah State for "Dave Bregenzer Humor", I'd be in. His lectures can be hard to follow, but he goes very slow so it's pretty easy to pick up on what matters. I would recommend Dave 10/10.
He spends a lot of time talking about the process of math abstractly rather than giving examples and because of this he rushes through the examples really quickly making it difficult to understand. The only reason I got a good grade was because of recitation and the math lab. Pretty confusing
He doesn't care about you, or your success.
Dave was the best! He brought handouts for you every day in class to make it easier for you to follow his lectures. He showed us how applicable math is and after his class I decided to minor in math. Love Dave!
In a huge math class like this is, it is crucial that you get a good recitation instructor. My recitation leader is the reason I got the grade I did. Dave's hilarious but he rambles a lot. He posts old exams on canvas, which is very helpful in preparation for tests. If you're willing to practice the math on your own time, you'll be fine.
He is a good professor. He could use more examples... But he posts practice exams that are exactly like the real exams... Take some practice exams and if you can do them, you can handle the test. If not, study more! I rarely went to class and did really well in his class.
Lectures are awful. I almost recommend just going to the recitation. He'll explain some concept that has nothing to do with the main topic that day and waste 30 min, and then finally get to the paper and will barely have time to finish the whole thing. It was really hard to learn from him, especially if you're going into calc.
Dave often gets off topic with lectures and struggles to explain step by step problem solving. However, if you're interested in the abstract concepts of math, he's a go to professor. As long as you go to recitations and practice on your own, the exams are easy. They're all structured exactly like the practice exams he provides as study tools.
Doesn't use Math to Explain Math. Uses more English and words instead of example problems. Sometimes hard to understand.
Dave is funny but gets sidetracked lots. We didn't always have time to cover everything. Definitely go to recitation-it's great review and also where you do quizzes. It's a stats class so it is hard but if you do the homework (not required) it helps a lot. Dave is really nice and willing to help. He posts past tests for review and they are great
Dave is really funny, he lets you use all of the old exams to study for the exam (same problems different numbers). I would guess most people give him a bad rating because they aren't very good at math. He shows you why you do the math, what the math is rather than just example problems all class. You do that in recitation. Tests are easy.
One highlight from Dave's class is that he is hilarious. Other than that, take a different professor. The class has a lecture and a recitation. I learned more from the graduate student in the recitation than I did from Dave. He once spent 15 minutes explaining how to do a problem, only to tell us it was the wrong way after. Needs better structure.
Dave has a super specific teaching style, that not all people love but I personally thought he was a pretty fair teacher! He's not always super clear but if you ask to clarify he'll make sure you understand. I like how he doesn't seem to be a natural math pro and tells us mistakes are that areeasily made by students.
Dave is a great professor, I'm not sure what everyone is talking about him being difficult. Dave really makes going to the class enjoyable unlike my Math1050. I got an A, and feel like it was fairly easy to obtain. Practice Exams are the same as Exams. Go over those and the same questions will be asked on the real exam. Short exams.
Funny and smart guy. Questions are WELCOME in class and are answered on the dot or with a funny redirection (mostly because it will be answered in lecture or because it's "for a later day"). Recitation classes are a little less than helpful and only serve as weekly quizzes.
Bregenzer likes to ramble on about things that don't have to do with math. Nobody knows what he is talking about more than half of the time. Thank goodness I took the class in high school because if I didn't know how to do everything, I honestly would have failed the class.
Dave is a good professor. He tends to get off topic a lot. He tries to hard to tell jokes and be funny. He answers questions during lecture, but it's good we had a recitation to get more help on.
He rambles on a lot and spends too much time on showing us how to do worksheet problems. I could be done with the worksheet when he and just finished one problem. The recitations are more helpful then the actual class.
He takes time to explain the concepts instead of just going over the questions and letting us leave, some people get mad at that but that's what I loved about him. I already knew most of the math we learned but I thought it was great that he went through WHY we were doing the math, not just how to do it. Also he's freaking hilarious, tons of fun.
He gave out papers to go through in lecture that we would never finish. I learned more from my recesitation class. The tests are not too bad but I wouldnt take a class from him again
Dave is a great educator, he makes lecture entertaining yet informational. I would definitely take another course from him. He didnt always get through his handout from lecture but he would do at least one problem and if he didnt he would be sure to finish it the next time. Nothing on the exams came as a surprise.
Dave is a funny guy, I enjoyed his lectures and seemed to be able to keep up just fine. Recitation I learned the most in. Study the old exams and you will do great, they are basically the same as the Exam he will give you.
Alright. Dave is a really cool guy, and he's pretty funny. The class by itself is hard, so I would strongly encourage you to go to class, and PAY ATTENTION. I would zone out periodically, but the next think you know, you have no idea what's going on. That being said, Dave is not the best professor in the world, the material can move too quickly.
Dave is a funny guy, but not necessarily the best teacher. I learned more from recitation than anything. Easy to figure out what you missed if you skip a day of class.
Dave was awesome. I had calculus at 7:30 am and his dry humor kept me awake. He actually explained the underlying principles of why the equation works, which made me understand everything 100x better. He's a nice grader and will give you some points back if you just messed up the algebra, etc, and doesn't expect you to have the equations memorized
I took 1100 and 1050 from him. He cares a lot more about 1100 and it shows in his lectures. Funny dude.
I don't understand why people don't like Dave. His humor can be a little dry, but I feel he teaches well, and shows you exactly what you need to know for the tests and finals. None of the tests I took had any surprises. I found my recitation leader to be a little annoying but overall I'd take math with Dave again. I just wish it wasn't M/W/F class.
I like Dave but the lectures he gives are pretty crappy, he adds a lot of unnecessary information on top of the stuff that you need to know so it can get confusing. I learned a lot more from going to the recitations for this class.
Dave is really funny, goes over EXACTLY what you need to know, and provides a lot of different practice tests and resources for you to be prepared for the exams. It's kind of annoying how there are 2 quizzes per week in the recitation, but I was expecting Calc to be much harder than it was. Thanks to his clear expectations, it was no problem at all
He is one of the best math teachers I have had. He really cares. He answers emails/ homework questions very fast. His tests are exactly like the practices. The homework he gives is 100% do-able. I do recommend him. He also explains concepts very well.
Calc is hard no matter what, but Dave is really funny and is VERY clear on what is expected of you. He's made it easy to prepare for exams, which are really what your grade is based on. Having a bad professor would make a horrible class even worse, so thank god Dave was cool.
Dave's lectures were a mixed batch. I learned a lot from the lectures, but only because I paid attention. If you aren't willing to work and actively engage in the lectures, they will be useless to you. Good sense of humor and a funny guy. Would take his course again.
Dave somehow makes calculus lectures fairly entertaining. I liked that he didn't mark entire questions wrong on the exams; he gave partial credit for parts of the problem you got right (so SHOW ALL WORK). He lets you choose which questions to work on the exams (ex. choose 2 of the next 3 problems to be graded). DO NOT skip class or recitation!!!
He makes calculus as easy as he possibly can. If you don't like your recitation leader at the beginning switch because a majority of learning is done in there. Dave is super chill, he gives out the old exams to study. He makes his class very straight forward so you know what to expect which helps a ton. He also gives partial credit!
Dave is an excellent teacher! He cares about the students and makes sure that we understand the topic before moving on. He is happy to answer any quesions that we have and his class was very easy.
Dave makes a lot of jokes in his lectures that makes somewhat boring material slightly interesting. Recitations are mandatory and they are where the majority of learning occurs. If you go to every recitation and miss most classes then you should still be more than fine if you're a historically high preforming student. Also, he has great hair!
Dave is the best. Kind of an odd dude, but that just keeps class interesting.
Dave really cares about helping his students pass this general class. He will take questions and work through them. If you do your homework and get help you will pass exams. The only downside is the time limit in class, it sometimes feels rushed to make it through a concept.
Super quirky guy but a great teacher. He will absolutely make you laugh during class. He explains the ideas behind math very in depth and shows multiple ways to solve problems. Encourages you to ask questions and will take the time to explain stuff to you. The math is annoying but Dave makes it worth it.
Dave is a great teacher and an awesome guy but be aware that he takes at LEAST ten minutes to go over one problem. If you like a faster moving class that will keep you awake, I suggest you take it from a different teacher.
Dave was a great math professor. He explained each concept step-by-step, which is so important for math. You don't have to attend the lectures, but if you don't go to the recitations, your grade will suffer. Get ready to work in groups during recitation. Your grade will be the midterms, final, recitation quizzes, and online homework.
There is a lot of work in this class, my primary complaint is that you have to buy a 120$ license to use MyMathLab instead of just using canvas. Lecture attendance is not mandatory and I learned most of the math in recitation.
Dave loves math, and is very smart, therefore confusing. He gives way too much background information about the math concepts which just makes everything more confusing. I fell asleep in lecture a lot. The notes he passes out have so many words on them and are so confusing and long and pointless. I hated this class.
I was entirely disgusted by this course. Prof Brezenger clearly knows his field extensively but has serious trouble with communicating computational math. His lectures consist of talking in english terms about the reason, or "concepts", behind everything rather than just showing us HOW TO COMPUTE the problems. Very upset, set me back a year.
Dave was one of the more interesting professors I have had. I feared math 1050, and thought it would be extremely hard. His lectures are boring and you rarely get a lot out of them, but if you go to recitation and do your group work, it helps not only your knowledge, but your grade as well. You don't need the lectures, but you need recitation.
Clear assignments and structure of class. The recitations were the most helpful and I learned the most from them.
I LOVE dave! This is the second year I've taken his class and I still love him. Lectures can be pretty long and boring, but he sprinkles in some funny jokes to make it bearable. Only used the textbook for homework assignment. Wants to help students and tries really hard to do so. Gives lots of group quizzes in recitation so pay attention.
Not my favorite class. We did a lot online because of Coronavirus. I learned mostly from going to recitation and in recitation, you'll do a quiz almost every day. I ended up talking to the TA about almost all assignments because I needed help.
He's nice, though we had several disagreements on how he graded my tests. His explanations are difficult to understand because they're weird. I wouldn't have done nearly as well as I did if I hadn't already taken the class before. He's a good sport, pretty understanding. But it was an effort to learn the material from him.
I wish I could give Dave a good review, but his methods of instruction are mediocre at best. Dave has a talent for confusing you with his explanations that leave you more with more questions than answers. He doesn't really teach you HOW to compute the problems. Recitations are much more useful and better than lectures.
I usually really struggle with math classes, but this is the first one I took where I understood everything. Dave is awesome.
Don't bother taking his class. He's smart, but he's a terrible teacher. Worst class I've ever taken. His Zoom lectures are hard-to-follow. There's two quizzes every week and homework with random due dates. He assigned an essay at the end of the semester and it ruined my grade, even though I followed the instructions perfectly. Harsh grader.
Dave made calculus easier to understand. He's a very chill professor who is also willing to chat or answer questions. He tries to make math as simple as possible. Anything confusing in lecture will usually be covered in recitation. There are 2 weekly quizzes and chapter exams. He lets you use notes on every quiz and exam including the final.
Dave was a good teacher in the fact that he could explain things well. However, if you didn't read the principles before class, he didn't always explain them. The textbook was simple enough though. There were lots of homework problems and on more than one website, so you have to watch dates carefully, but they were helpful in preparing for tests.
Dr. Bregenzer is a good choice for calculus.
