he's a cool guy...likes the simpsons...
Failed first test with F, got B's on the last two tests. Got an A for the course! All his definition for the Vocabs on the exams are from the lecture (which is word by word from the text). You dont even need to buy the textbook!

Hist is not my subject but Dave made hist fun and understandable. All you need to do is talk to him if you have any problems or questions. He is very helpful.
I don't really like the material at all. that doesnt matter. Just pay attention and do the reading from the source reader. The sourece reader is far more important to him than the textbook.
Very nice Prof. Very clear about all his exams. Sometimes he's boring, but overall its a very easy class. I got an "A" in his class.
it's easy if you go to class, but he'll nail you on your tests if you miss more than 3 classes all semester
You know how sometimes having an "easy" teacher makes it harder to get a good grade? Dave Hall is that teacher. His grading on his written tests was at times MORONIC! Not an easy A, more like an semi-easy C type of teacher.
He's a really nice guy and funny at times. But his tests were hard. Maybe bc i rarely went to class. Pay attention to everything he says and ask questions because his lectures are way too detailed.
This guys pretty cool. He is really sarcastic and knows he is teaching a boring subject (to most students), so that makes it fun at times. All about tests. He doesn't use the textbook at all. Fun guy though.
he makes this class more fun, very sarcastic. he takes roll everyday. all you do in his class is write notes down from the overhead. he's fun. he only has two midterms and the final so that's the only bad thing and the tests are all essay.
guys and girls, don't ask, just fight to have a seat in his class. I got F at the 1st exam then C. my final grade was B, how?? I don't know. he just see how u r doing in the class, if your grades go up then you will get a beter grade.
He's a great guy and has time for you during his office hours all the time. He communicates alot better then most teachers and he makes it fun.
He's a very helpful and patient teacher. Go to meet him during his office hours. He'll help you to answer all your questions.
I worked my butt off in this class!!! I only got a C. I totally deserved a B OR AN A! He always has quite entertaining lectures though, he's a witty man (a lot of Simpsons references)!
nice guy, knows that no one cares about the subject and tells you that almost everyday. i barely went to class and when i did he yelled at us for not reading the text or not knowing current world events. got a c in the class.
Great teacher, tries to make lecture interesting and works in a lot of extra points to keep things lively. Hands out study sheets and gives out essay questions before the actual test. Mulitple choice questions were easy for me, but he grades HARD for the essay-gotta bring in that outside info.
hall is a great teacher and a nice person. he is always willing to help a student out if they needed and always answer any question that is ask of him. great thing about him is actually knows all the answer to the question ask. the class is not super hard if you go to class every day then you will do find.
well i took this class for the third time and out of all the professors he made it interesting, but only if you participate...He's always willing to help and if you make yourself known to him and talk to him, he'll get to know you and that will make the class so much easier for you. He is pretty kick back, although he takes roll every time.
He's a great teacher that trys to make the boringest stubject fun, he likes to make u laugh at things and tells you how history is boaring and all your trying to do is get over this class, hes a really nice guy that will help you out when you need it!!!

Great teacher. Tried his best to make lecture interesting. Told stories that took place in history but aren't mentioned in the text book. Quizzes - make sure you read the READER section for the week. Tests - Know key importance of each term given (flash cards help) and make outlines of the essay questions, using the READER.
funny teacher keeps it interesting but can b e a lil' boring especially if you take his class at 8 in the morning. roll call every day and gives tardies only 3 mid-terms and comprhensive final. loves the simpsons any take his class only if you love the subject ohh he goes really fast cover a chapter a day if you dont read you will be left behind.
He is a really nice guy, and his class is relatively easy, however he is always sick, and always needs cough drops.. but other than that his class is not bad at all
Great professor, really seems to care about the students who show up. Tests are pretty diffacult, make sure to read the chapters and reader. Always lets class out 10-15 minutes early. Take this guy and your sure to pass.
This is one of the worst professors that i have ever taken in my life. His lectures were boring, and they did not correlate with his exams. Overall the class was horrible, and I would not recommend this class to anyone, unless you like to torture yourself, in that case he would be perfect.
His lectures are really boring, but overall he is a great professor. He cares about the students that try. Get to know him, go to his office hours and ask him questions...he really cares...will help you if you need it.
AN AWESOME PERSON!!!! kind of boring don't need to read the text book at all but know the reader by heart. just a very caring person...he is always willing to help!
I really liked Mr. Hall!!! He is a really good teacher, sometimes the class can get overwhelming but he is always there to help. The main thing to read is the reader its VERY important!! All around a great teacher!!
SO BORING. it would have been easy if i showed up, i just couldnt be bothered i would rather get the D i got than go and sit in this class.. he talks about the simpsons instead of history.. take this though cause hes not bad.
the most uninteresting professor i've had at csuf. avoid this man.
His lectures are so boring and his power points are useless just lists of names and dates and he rambles really fast a long story about each person/place making it hard to figure out whats really important. He makes it hard to pay attention. Hes a nice professor but i would aviod his class if you can.
GET A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR!!!!!
avoid!! lectures have nothing to do with the tests. only half of whats on the test is actually on the study guide. tests are very difficult and detailed with trick questions
i hate history and this teacher made me hate it more. soooo boring i fell asleep at 3 in the afternoon. lectures don't have anything to do with the tests. I went to class and still had no idea what was going on. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS it sucks.
I like Mr. Hall.. I think he is a nice guy.. This was the second semester that I had him as my professor.. So i kinda got to know him.. His class was really really hard.. wrote pages and pages of notes and studied hard and still got C's and D's on the test.. Your grade is based off three exams and two quizzes so you HAVE to do good on the tests!!
Lectures are a waste of time..as soon as you get study guide start making in depth notecards...make sure you actually read the reader or wont pass the class. Do not recommend
horrible class!!! dont take him. hes beyond boring. even though history is already boring.. his lectres have nothing to do with the tests. only part of whats on the test is on the study guide. has trick questions on test. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!
He was the worse teacher I have EVER had!!!! I would NOT recommend him to ANYONE!!! More then 60% of the words on his study guides he never talks about in class!!! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!
his lectures are long and boaring, he could be funny some times, his quizes are so easy, but wait till u see the tests, they droped my grade from an A to a D, his tests are hard and not easy to study for
SOOOOO much information u have to cover for exams. You need to work really really hard if u wanna pass his class..
he is the worse teacher!! he talks the entire time, and his lectures are not helpful for the tests! the study guide is a list of 100+ words that you have to know everything about and impossible to look up and study by the time the test comes around. if you can aviod him ... then do it!!
do yourself a favor and do not take him
Tests are hard. Study guides ridiculous. Don't take him.
This class was challenging but very interesting! The tests rely solely on the study guide. Take good notes even about things that don't sound important and make flashcards and you'll do fine on the tests. The teacher is really nice and if you need help with anything he's very understanding. I worked hard in this class, but it all paid off.
Had him for 110A. He decided to do essay tests instead of multiple choice in 110A, and the class was WAY easier. Not as much info to worry about with the essays. If it is multiple choice, watch out cuz its a lot of work.
I accidently had him for two classes, Hist 110A and 110B, I did better in 110B becasue it wasn't a lecture hall and he actually seemed concerned about how the students were doing. He seems mean, but really isn't. You have to pay attention to his lectures! Try and find a different teacher
His lectures are all over the place and hard to follow. His jokes only confuse and cloud lectures. His tests are essay format and pretty difficult. He expects a lotwithout giving you a lot!
i took his class in spring 08,this class was very difficult, he gave us sporadic quizzes throughout the semester and our midterms and final were MC with essay format. he is a tough teacher and to do well in the class you have to go to every class and make flash cards. tough professor.
Horrible! Do not take. Not even a joke. You will definitely regret it if you do
boring lectures, hard grader. find another prof.
He is a very tough professor, but you can see that he cares about the students in his class. The main key to do well in this class is to finish the study guide and then study it really well. Yes, the study guide is pretty intimidating with its seventy questions, but once you do them and study them you will be fine. Overall a good professor.
Lectures are adrag. If you don't understand something, ask him about it again. He will explain it to you. He generally wants everyone to pass. Composed of tests ONLY. NO HOMEWORK. Kind of a bummer because it allows no opportunity to raise your grade. Enter class with caution.
This class is not that hard, you just have to really study for the tests. I fell asleep a few times in class since it is pretty boring, but as long as you read the book and study your notes nonstop for a week or a few days before the test you're fine. No homework, so it's VERY important to study hard.
He's not the most interesting professor, but his class was not hard at all. There's 3 midterms and for all of them he gave us the STUDY GUIDE! So he makes it a lot easier for his students to pass.
VERYY FUNNY TEACHER AND HONESTLY THIS CLASS IS PRETTY LAID BACK . JUST MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT TOPICS TO COVER FOR ON THE TEST.AFTER THE FIRST TEST I GOT AN 89 BECAUSE I FOLLOWED THE STUDY GUIDE AND IT STAYED TRUE TO THE GUIDE. YOU WILL GET AN EASY A IF YOU FOLLOW WHAT IM SAYING :-)
so unorganized!! even when i studied i couldnt get a good grade in the class.. i asked him for help and he didnt help at all.
He makes history fun. The study guides for exams are extremely helpful and he respondes to questions fairly quickly. If you take good notes instead of just copying down the powerpoint slides, you'll do well in the class
I would not recommend this class if you rely heavily on visual aids or written notes. His PowerPoint slides are practically bare and useless. Unless you are unusually apt, you're bound to not catch everything he is saying. His study guides are broad, so you never really know what he is specifically looking for. Scantron tests. So-so course.
Funny and helpful teacher. Don't need to show up to class but it is advised. I found tests really difficult but I not good at testing anyways. Sucks for me cuz that's the only thing in the class. 3 tests. and 3 extra credit quizzes on 3 different books.
Lectures are a bit confusing and he is not very clear explaining things. 3 tests and 3 extra credit quizes. He wasnt very helpful either. soso class
He's a good teacher. Gets to the point in his lecture. Uses powerpoint. Take good notes. Read the book and notes and follow the study guides he provides and you'll do well. Also, read the books. He has a weird, quirky sense of humor and is partially deaf so, speak LOUD!
gives study guide before test and as long as you do it the tests are no problem. and the final isnt cumulative
Gives study guides for tests. The class consisted of 3 tests including the final. Very monotone voice and uses powerpoints for all lectures. Not a difficult class, just use the book for the study guides.
Powerpoint & lecture. No BlackBoard. Study guide is lengthy but verbatim the test. The material is dry(not his fault)so if you're trying to fulfill this GE, take something else with a narrower perspective, because there is a lot of info to cover in this class
Dave is cool. Like many do he gives a study guide for the test - use the book or notes, wikipedia may not give you exactly what he's looking for. Might make you laugh or at least smile he tries to be funny. Easy GE Class overall.
These ratings don't do him justice! Very, very knowledgeable about history. Interesting lectures and random witty comments. Extremely helpful. Class is not mandatory. 300pt class - 3 100pt tests. Drops lowest. Study guide = test. I averaged an 83% on the 3 exams and he gave me an A for the class!
He is a great teacher and resource. You can tell that he has a great interest in the subject and wants you to learn the stuff. Lectures can be dull at times. I do agree with the other posts that his powerpoints are plain, but you're in college stop being lazy and just listen to the lecture.
I really enjoyed taking his class. He is very knowledgable and adds funny facts about certain events which keep your interest level pretty high . I never got bored during class. If you need help just ask otherwise the exam are based on lecture/ some textbook. Very fair
Simply, great
I thought this class was pretty interesting. Attendance is mandatory since he passes out a sign-up sheet. His class was actually pretty hard; you have to study hard in order to get the grade that you want. There are study questions that he gives out to you but that doesn't really help in my opinion. What you write down from the PPT is what you get.
Fairly easy class. Do review guides and study those and you can get a B. Sparknote note the 3 novels required and can get an A or B on those. Makes the boring parts of history a little less. Enjoyable class.
He uses outdated methods to teach. Since he's been doing this for a long while, he knows everything by memory. His powerpoints are just key points and says everything as he remembers it (extremely accurate). The workload is a lot. He assigned an entire 300 page book for one 15 question quiz which is a large part of your grade.
Hard class. He tried to make it interesting and some days it was, but usually put people to sleep, but it's not his fault. The material is just boring. He gives study guides for all the tests but they aren't extremely helpful. If you want to learn, take his class, but if you want an easy A, this isn't the class to take.
This class contains a ton of information. He is a very outgoing professor and always tries to make lectures interesting. His tests are very long and require you to know everything. Utilize the study guide and put many hours into preparing for an exam. Also, avoid taking this class in the morning
Dave's a pretty chill guy. His class is discussion based.. but if students arent prepared, he talks, a bit monotone. Class is based on 3 essay exams. If you make somewhat of an effort you should get a passing grade. I got an A :) He's an understanding teacher and just expects a little participation. I'm taking him again for 201A!
Mandatory class for all History majors. I have mixed feelings about this class because I didn't exactly enjoy it. No tests, just a final paper but we had to do a bunch of precis for him. He expects his students to participate in class and know everything. We had to read a total of 9 books. I didn't like it, but I'm glad I passed.
Probably one of my least favorite classes. Hall is a decent professor but when it comes to teaching this class, he comes off as both dry and boring. He assigns a ton of books (mind you, they're thick) and expects us to know everything about them in a week. No tests, just a final paper consisting of all the books we've read and discussed.
Dave trys to keep class interesting. He is very unorganized. Doesnt use online portal. Powerpoints are vague. Recommend you set up icons for names of people, their ranks and places. Take good notes as he knows most info off the top of his head. Willing to help students. Treat those who participate favorably. At least make an effort, it pays off.
He is an amazing professor, funny and cares a lot about the subject and students and likes to make jokes a lot! Reading is MANDATORY but it is the only homework ever assigned! (Get a head start when you know the books) Grade is based on 3 in-class essay, one at home and quizzes. Would take again!
Do not take this professor! He is very difficult and his lectures are boring and useless. You are better off reading the book and filling out the study guide on your own, but that's not possible since attendance is mandatory. Avoid him!
Dr. Hall is a cool guy, but a bit dry/monotone. Lectures are dull along with the multitude of books assigned. He's not a harsh grader but he's very particular about the 3 in-class essays you write during the semester (which the majority of your grade is based on). I put in a lot of effort and time and ended up with a B+. Make sure you're prepared.
Professor Hall may have lengthy lectures using PowerPoints, but he knows what he's talking about. This makes attendance mandatory because a lot of what he says shows up on tests. 2 midterms, 1 final, 1 quiz on short book. I hate history, but keep up with the reading and show up. That's all you have to do to receive a good grade in this class.
He is funny but he doesn't post lecture online so get ready to write and read. two midterm, final and two quizzes. He makes it interesting in class. DON"T leave during class he will make fun of you and embarrassed you. 80 multiple choice and 2 essay question (Choice of 2 from 5 listed topic) No one got full point on essay he want more then detail.
This was his first time teaching this class and it was pretty straightforward. He has a boring, monotonous voice that can put you to sleep even after downing 2 red bulls and a five hour energy. Participate and you should be fine.
This was his first time teaching Honors 101A. He has this monotone voice that makes the class a little boring. As long as you participate in class discussions and do your assignments, you will likely to pass. But you have to bug him and ask him for feedback. He is not good at that.
Get ready for straight powerpoint lectures in his classes. His classe does get boring dont expect a fun class. Easy to pass gives study guide basically word for word for what is on midterm and final. Print this out when given and take notes on this. Whatever notes you dont get in class make sure to read the textbook.
My class is 2x week for 1 hour and 15 minutes, and it feels like the longest class ever. Dry humor, but he is funny. Powerpoints are condense, get ready to read and take good notes! He wants to help and wants you to pass, but he's not an easy grader; ask for help. BTW everything is on the syllabus. Read 3 books, quizzed. 4 exams with short essay
3-4 Exams. Main textbook and three books to supplement the History 170B. The three books are assigned to help you understand and give perspective on life back in the day. Simple quizzes are given for each book. Read a little every day and you will finish by the time the quiz is assigned. The exams are straightforward and simple. Enjoy the class!
Professor Hall is great. His tests are tough but not unfair. He gives you all the information in class. His lectures are interesting and keep you engaged.
Very easy. Nice books to help understand USH from 1877 to the present. Would recommend again!!!
My advice to future students, print out the study guide, double space it, and fill it out in class. When you miss a day you miss info that could be on the test.
Prof. Hall is very unorganized but knows his stuff. class consists of 3 quizzes on the required reading (10 MC) and 3 exams (Non-Cumulative). Lots of reading. gives a CLEAR study guide weeks in advance that can be found word for word on quizlet. Easiest way to pass is to go to class, read, and make flash cards of the study guide.
Very nice, rambles, give useless facts, unorganized, & speeds through lectures so it can be tough to figure out what you need to know. Fair grader. 3 essay tests (he fell behind. we should have had 4), gives study guides & a review session. Read/study the book. He doesn't give you enough info in his lectures to write on for tests.
Hall is one of the funniest professors ever. Not only is he funny, he makes lectures interesting and easy to remember. You have to read a couple of books, which can be time consuming, but quizzes on them are a small portion of your grade. Tests are MC and short-answer (which he gives you beforehand). Excellent professor. Take him!
3 quizzes on 3 books he assigns, not very difficult. 2 midterms that you should really study for. The final exam which is not cumulative. Will drop one midterm. He's a good professor who actually cares about you passing his class and is willing to help you if you're not doing so well.
I took him for 110A, 110B, and 180! Your grade is based on 3 tests and 2 quizzes. However, he gives you the possible questions that will be on the exam, making it easy for you. Record lectures, take good notes, attend his classes, bring questions to class. Book quizzes are easy if you read the book. he is hilarious and makes class fun. I recommend!
Great professors! knows how to successfully deliver material. Class is based on 3 exams and 3 quizzes. Highly recommend.
Hall had to be one of my favorite professors. I hated that he doesn't allow laptops in class, but I got over it and just hand wrote my notes and recorded him because he does speed through lectures, which are VERY important. As long as you show up and pay attention and read the 3 required books, passing is easy. I hardly used the textbook
Professor Hall is a very nice person and is very knowledgable about historical events; however, he is disorganized, his PowerPoints are vague, and he grades really hard. There are only two midterms and the final too so you do not have many chances to bring up your grade.
His PowerPoints are very vague... I don't understand them at all... But he makes learning history fun!
He's a chill professor, but you must show up to class, participate, and do the homework.
I enjoy his class, but you definitely have to do the work and participate. The first month we watched movies and wrote short responses on them, and it seems pretty straight-forward and easy. He really knows his stuff, even if it is a critical thinking class. He does not give you your papers back though, so I have no idea how I'm doing academically.
I haven't experienced the 'disorganization' some students are addressing, but he does give a lot of quizzes/tests. You read 3 books (textbook, and 2 readings) plus another book that he provides online. Must read to pass quizzes, lectures are a must for exams which is why powerpoints are vague YOU MUST ATTEND to answer study questions & look at book
I loved this class! Prof Hall is a goofy dad-type but super nice. He teaches a lot of classes so he doesn't always have his stuff together, but he's crazy smart. He makes his lectures into stories. I didn't use the textbook at all. 2 required readings and 3 tests, and he drops your lowest test grade. Bring the study guide to class! Super easy GE.
This class consists of 3 quizzes based on 3 short novels he assigns, 2 midterms, and a non-cumulative final that is basically another midterm. Dropped lowest midterm and offered an extra credit opportunity with the final. Attendance will be taken everyday. Lectures were not helpful and ppts were vague. Gives out long study guides that are helpful.
Professor Hall's course was very straight forward. His voice is very monotone however, his tests are fairly easy! Exam questions come straight from the study guide. Also, you read 3 books and have one quiz on each. Not too shabby for a history class. He also drops your lowest exam grade.
He's a great guy, not so much a great professor. Very disorganized, you never know what you might be doing in class. Written precis once a week plus final paper, but isn't explicit on what he wants from it. Definitely not worth the money if you want to actually learn. Bearable, but definitely boring and worth taking with another professor.
His lectures are unorganized, and you read a lot within a short amount of time. The books you read are briefly discussed after you take a quiz on them and youre not tested on them. His lecturers are cool because he talks about history as a story and hes funny. Text book is not needed.
He takes some getting used to, but he'll definitely challenge you to think critically. Lot's of discussion in class, you have to be willing to participate. Deviated from the syllabus a tad. Also, a few short essays are assigned.
His class is so much fun to take, really funny and interning guy who has a lot to say. Sometimes a bit too much, but hey thats whats so enjoyable about his teaching style. The class isn't hard to pass, just do the reading and do well on the exams. Despite the low difficulty of the class, you do learn a lot, and the way he explains is incredibly fun
Processor Hall is one of my favorite professors. The class was based on attendance, a final paper draft and the final paper. You have to read a lot of books but if you just skim them you'll be fine. Attendance is mandatory but we had class for about an hour like 14 times total. He grades easy and wants you to learn.
Dave Hall is a good professor. He provides everything for you to pass his class. Ask for help if needed. Study for his Exams and ALWAYS do the study guides. The Exam is basically the study guides. He gives 2 Midterms & 1 Final Exam which is non cumulative, and 3 quizzes from 3 good books you have to read.
Great guy, cares about the students. But his class is a lot of work and if youre like me and history doesnt stick then good luck. 2 midterms, 1 final, and 3 book quizzes for HIST110B. Scattered lectures but he tells them like a story which is very interesting. Tests are 80 questions and two short answers. Excessive for a GE.
This professor was extremely unprepared, but honestly, he did help open new windows of perspective. The critical thinking course was very interesting, but if you don't really like participating in class, you might not get much out of it. All you do is watch movies, read one book, and 200 word essays in response. Easy A so long as you show up.
3 exams (drops lowest) and 3 reading quizzes based off books you need to read. His exams are based off lecture, which I found interesting, so no need for text book and take thorough notes! Gives you a study guide and all the answers are in your notes. He tries to make class funny and takes attendance.
His lectures were all over the place and it is hard to grasp what he is lecturing about. Since his lectures are hard to understand, the class gets REALLY boring. Beware, you have to understand his lectures, read the textbook, and on top of that read 3 novels with reading quizzes. If reading is not something you like, dont take his class.
He is really comedic with his lecture and I really appreciated that he was able to teach something as tedious as history in a more enjoyable way for students to learn. Yea, he may be very disorganized and get off-topic many times, but he tries his best with what he has. Just make sure to do the reading and take great notes during the lectures!
Prof. Hall is beyond amazing, he is a very understanding professor and was super helpful when things were going south. He also is always available to speak about grades and wants to ensure you pass his class. PS do not use your electronics, he isn't very fond of it, but he's such a great lecturer.
Hes alright. If you can avoid him for 300A do it. Its a lot of reading , so hes not great for a full schedule. 8 300-600 page books. We were in class once a week for max 45 minutes. Every class is led by students(presentations), he doesnt do much, if any, talking himself. Hes overall nice and funny. His criticism can feel really harsh though.
Professor Hall is a really nice person yet his class is quite confusing. He requires a lot of reading over 6,000 pages of reading for the semester. I did pass the course yet it was very difficult for me to do so because he requires very specific details of the books. I think passing his 300 A class possible but rather difficult.
3 exams mc (100 pts each/essay portion) 3 book quizzes (20 pts each) that are so unnecessary. He provides a study guide, but I thought it was useless, and it was tough to pass his exams. His lectures were all over the place and very boring. I attended class every day, and it was dreadful. In all honesty, find another professor DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
(Honors210A) Tons and tons of reading, assigns 15+ page lectures, usually 1-2 per week. To add to the amount of reading, he also does weekly 5 question quizzes on reading from the textbook which is 10+ pages long and the questions are on the most irrelevant topics. On a more positive note, his exams questions are usually from the study guide.
He did not take into consideration about the situation we are all in. He also doesnt provide zoom classes and you have to teach yourself. DO NOT TAKE HIM. There are quizzes after a 36 pg lecture . A lot of quizzes but also 2 midterms 1 final. He gives no homework which doesnt help your grade Bc your grade just consist of quizzes and exams.
asynchronous, youd think it'd be easy. 2 midterms, 1 final exam, 6 quizzes. 3 are from books you need to read. he makes his own quiz questions. lectures are LONG, so good luck teaching yourself. study guides each midterm, but the questions focused on the most minuscule details. i didnt learn at all. i love history and this class made me hate it >:(
So there are over 6,000 pages that you have to read during the semester (the reading is very very dense). The majority of your grade is based on one (very complicated) 7-10 page paper. He's really disorganized and can be unclear with his directions. ALSO, he doesn't input ANY grades until literally AFTER the final... So good luck if you have him...
I took this professor bc it was the best class time for me-big mistake. This professor doesnt get a 1 bc he is very knowledgeable, but he doesnt do a good job to teach his knowledge. I couldnt track what he thought of my work even when I asked, and his answers to questions never explained what he was looking for in the final paper so u r on ur own
A funny man who cares for his students. He gives lots of confusing and difficult readings. You get weekly readings and quizzes that are based on the readings. You get 3 exams which are pretty hard if you do not study and read. Overall, his class was decent and good. Nothing too bad. If you do not like reading, do not take this class!
Dr. Hall is a very good professor who knows his history. However, his hearing is very bad, and a discussion-based class devolved into 75 min of lecturing every single class. Forgot about the weekly quizzes by Week 3, and insisted on the extra readings despite them not contributing anything more to the class besides some poor quiz scores. He's ok.
The whole class is basically him lecturing. His class depends on your test grades only and they are hard. At the end of the semester, he offered an extra credit opportunity because he saw how people were struggling. Take notes and don't fall asleep in class, or you'll be just as lost as I am. He is nice, but his class is heavy.
Dr. Hall's lectures are very engaging, however, they are also very very dense- he provides a transcript of every lecture shall anyone miss a class - printed double-sided they took a 2" binder... A big drawback of his class is that he doesn't use Canvas, so you don't know your grades until he enters the final grade into the system.
I took Prof. Hall for HIST 386A and was hesitant because of his rating, but found him to be a good and caring professor. I am not one for discussion so his hearing problems and heavy lecturing was not an issue for me. The class was graded by three essay exams and he drops the lowest one. Overall easy if you study for the exams.
Graded on only midterms and a couple of pop quizzes. He talks the whole class and expects you to remember everything. Midterms are hard. I'm usually an A or B student but I have got only Ds on the midterms and finals. Should've dropped his class. The only pros are that he's kinda funny and offered like 20 pts extra credit but it really did nothing.
3 midterm, 3-4 quizzes. He just lectures all class and you teach yourself everything. Midterms are hard and you have to study. Offers a little extra credit. Doesn't curve or use canvas so you never know what grade you have.
He's genuinely a good and kind professor. Within my first semester of college, he was probably my favorite professor by FAR. He creates a friendly setting and tells about history like it's a story. He has recorded lectures and notes provided, and a lot of resources to help you study. Quizzes almost every week, but relatively easy and open note.
He is very lecture heavy, if you enjoy and can follow lectures then take him but if not it can be extremely difficult. The study guides are very long, therefore you have to memorize all of the study guide to do well on the midterms. I wish he had more assignments so the minimal assignments he gave were not as "make or break" for your grade.
You can pass the 2 midterms and final easily if you make flashcards. The professor provides online versions of 2/3 books. The last one you can find on library genesis, but I only used it once. 100% of class time is spent on lectures and participation is highly encouraged. Overall, a chill professor and pretty light workload.
Prof. Hall is a very sweet person. He cares so much for his students and even gave us snacks when we watched movies. But this course was so unorganized. I paid attention and still don't know what we were doing in that class; it was very all over the place. No laptops allowed. He never graded any assignment, he just assigned a final grade. Easy A
seems passionate. class is very traditional and he will call you out in class if you have your phone out. you don't even have to be on it, could just be in his sight. find the study guides online and you should be fine.
Professor Hall is an extremely passionate professor and is really caring. If you are attentive and take good notes, you should be okay, 3 major exams and some quizzes here or there, if you stay on top of everything, you'll do just fine.
Dr. Hall is super cool! He has good lectures, just take the best notes you can because they will be helpful on the tests. Its a lot of work but do the study questions they actually really help. If you have something going on and you missed a class or a quiz just talk to him. He's really understanding.
Professor Hall brings history to life with engaging lectures. The work is challenging but manageable with good note-taking and using unstuckstudy alongside the textbook for study prep.
I would not recommend taking this professor if you are not majoring in history this professor may give us study guides but in the exam he makes it more complicated by changing up the words and tricking us. Its enough already having 80 multiple choice and 2 short responses in 1 hour and 15 mins.
I recommend this professor if you're good at memorizing facts and dates. I ended with a B because he would give 80 question study guides and found them on quizlet. There are three tests; all of them are 80 mpc questions and 2 short paragraph questions. You can tell the professor is very passionate about history! He also drops the lowest midterm!
If you're not a history major, you probably will suffer. His slide shows are very traditional, it only provides a few words and it's mainly him lecturing. Attendance matters & his exams, quiz are graded VERY heavy. He provides study guides & expects you to know EVERY lil things about what he lectures. Just take another professor for honr201a!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. if you are able to please take any other professor other than him! you will not know your grade until the transcripts come out (no grades on canvas). His tests are hard and you don't even get your final back to see your score. If you want to have a good semester and actually pass a class do not take his class!
Dave Hall has a very special place In he11! I would rather watch paint dry, than sit through his lectures. I would pray to my lord and savior to end my suffering everyday. To whoever ran his fade during finals I praise you. A true hero. nevertheless, IF YOU WANNA FIND YOUR 13TH REASON TAKE THIS COURSE. ONG IF I SEE HIM AGAIN, HES CATCHING THIS FADE
Not even done with the semester yet and I already don't like this guy, he expects you to somehow memorize a sh1t ton for the exams and takes forever to grade and when he does he'll come up with some excuse to not give full points. Just do yourself a favor and take literally anyone else if possible.
