Awesome guy. Can be long winded in his explanation but, knows his stuff.
Helpful and available. His classes are worth the time and money. He adds value to the class.
Truly an exceptional instructor. Absolutely one of the best instructors I have ever had and I have been doing this student stuff for a long time...
Not a very good professor, but what can you do he is the only one that teaches what he teaches
He tends to fly off the handle at students on occassion. This is a frightning at times, and more and more annoying over time.
A pure anal, highly not recommended, mean to students, cut students off in the middle of th sentences, doesn't teach, makes you learn by yourself. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE, PCC !!!
Makes such big deals for how you should title assigments. Say things that make you sound like an idiot when you asked questions. Do not take this guy unless you 100% have to.
very demanding class. Lots of extra assignments. Access group design project makes no sense. But he is willing to help you as long as you can stand his bluh, bluh, bluh...
Very demanding class, requires mass amounts of work. But there is little instruction, there is a group quiz everyday, but before that we go over the previous day's quiz. That is the extent of his instruction for the class.
stay at home and read the book... you will get more out of it.
Worried too much about where the title, name, date, etc. should be.
Hansen's awesome. His stories are hilarious and he gives good insight in Information Systems... You have to work hard for him to like you though, or else he's pretty brutal.
quite possibly the most unprofessional teacher ive ever had... I could waste my time listing everything that makes him unfit for his position, but ill leave it up to the students to realize that on their own.

Is this a web class with long meetings? Dave, lets his materials teach for him. He overloads students with excessive busy work for outside of class, all the while lecturing on information completly unrelated to tested material or assignments. Try doing your job like the rest of us have to Dave.
Horrible teacher! The man DOES NOT even know the basics of how to use a PC. He'll double-click hyperlinks, make simple (and stupid) errors while trying to navigate his way around Windows and wastes HOURS of student's valuable time showing them how to download utilities that are not needed. Take your IT course(s) with a different professor!

Hansen is cool. His idea of doing Nerd Jeopardy really kept me up on the reading... He's much nicer to women... If you go to him for help, he'll help you even if it's 1:00am in the morning! The only hard thing is the last Microsoft Access assignment. Don't procrastinate! I paid the price and got a B instead of an A!!!
This guy wastes so much time! He knows that students are required to take his class and he loves to hear himself talk. Try to avoid him if you can (unless you are an IS major).
DO NOT TAKE BA 325 FROM HIM!!!! he slams you with busy work and pointless group projects, rambles on about nothing of importance, and is the ruddest professor i have ever heard when speaking to students. He even forgot to send the end of term grades in, and got pissed when students started emailing him wondering where our grades were.
unfair professor. Hopefully PSU will get another professor who teach his classes such as IS 380
His assignments are pretty reasonable and he is very helpful with getting them done if a bit long winded. He doesn't lecture about the subject very much in class.
Hansen is like the Uncle that you see at Thanksgiving. You like the guy, but you wish he would shut up already so you can watch the game.
Hansen?s class requires a LOT of work, most of which is not fun. However, I learned a TON and definitely got MORE than my money?s worth from taking his class. If you are pressed for time, it would be better to take a different Professor for 325. If you want to learn skills that could help your future career, Hansen is who you should take.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!! If you can get past his pointless rambling you still have to deal with his rude attitude and VERY harsh grading. Class is so unorganized and poorly driven that participating becomes more of a chore than an actual leaning experience. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Unless you need to learn Access.
Very Hard class.
Teachers Hansen is highly unqualified for the position he is holding. I find this teacher very incompetent and does not care at all about the course. He gives you some bank questions and wants you to memorize them, next class he would go over it and that is it. He does not teach you and then he says "you don't know that? it was in the book"
He tries to be nice/funny, but a horrible teacher. Probably a great tech guy, very knowledgeable, but unable to transfer that knowledge. Easy classes, but his is a stickler...
Avoid this nut at all cause, he will snap anytime. You have been warned. He does not know how to teach, he isn't qualified and should not teach a college level course.
Like's to hear himself talk
He's great. I recommend you take it with him. he's extremely helpful. Easy A
Most condescending professor I've ever had! Don't take this class. He's a jerk and he's teaching style is too difficult for nonIT students.
Grading on database assignments is so harsh at times, that it almost feels random. Class lectures were rarely helpful. Assignment parameters are not written, but have to be hastily written in notes when he speeds through them in class. Avoid his classes at all costs. I will from now on.
Not the most interesting teacher or class but it's an easy A if you do the assignments
He makes this class more difficult than it needs to be. Be prepared to but in a lot of time outside of class & work your butt off to get an A/B. He can be condescending to his students. He doesn't respond to emails & takes forever or just doesn't change your grade at all. I would avoid this professor if you had another option! You've been warned!
He's an amazing teacher.. So helpful, it's like he wants students to ask so he could help and an easy A.. He knows the subject well. I totally recommend.
I would strongly encourage students to take a class from anybody but Hansen. His lectures are very, very boring and add almost nothing to the book. You can pass his class, but you'll regret taking it.
Ended up with a B+ in class. The Access book was worthless and it didn't prepare me for the last test. He doubled the work load with learning Access the last half of the term after midterms, kind of ridiculous to say the least. Overall I thought the class was a waste time and money.
Nice guy. He shared some good info, but the class is a waste of time and money. Tests are tricky- too many multiple choice responses are synonyms, which reduces studying to memorizing words rather than learning concepts. Textbook is awful but it must be studied extensively to get a good grade. You don't have to go to class- it doesn't help anyway.
This can be an easy class if you're good at rote memorization, but you will not learn anything useful. He says the questions on the exams are different than the ones on the quizzes, but this is not true. Memorize the quizzes to pass the exams! Watch out for the final, which is nothing like any of the prior exams or lectures.
I would suggest another Professor.
Memorize all the quizzes and you'll pass the tests just fine. Didnt do case studys or excel assignments ( were all optional) and got a steller grade! Just meorize all book definitions!!!! NOT KIDDING Attendance is not required at all! MEMORIZE ALL BOOK DEFINITIONS AND QUIZ ANSWERS AND YOU WILL PASS WITH GOOD GRADE. HE JUST REPEATES BOOK WORDFORWOR
Do not take this professor. You will learn nothing in the class and he purposely alters the tests to confuse students.
I have a strong interest in computers, but this class is extremely boring. Luckily with the hybrid class you don't have to attend class. This whole class is all about reading the book then taking 12 quizzes and 5 tests all on the book and a little bit on the case study's. Does offer 5 extra credit assignments and lets you drop 1 quiz and 1 test
Boring classes and harder material but he gives more than enough opportunity to get a good grade. Do the work and you will be fine. If you slack off and dont do the "optional work" you will suffer more.
This class was a piece of cake. There is a lot of extra credit for all you early term slackers like myself. I missed around 5 assignments the first half of the term, but extra credit saved me from failure. Attendance is not required. Just read the book and memorize the terms. Not very hard to do.
Hyper paranoid about cheating, and uses information directly from the book. Do the homework and you don't need to attend class. Use the extra credit, it makes a huge difference. Though, if you have the option, take this from another teacher. I had to force myself to stay awake and learned very little.
Horrible teacher! You will regret taking this class! The class is taking quizzes online based off word for word book definitions. Class is unbearable and pointless he doesn't teach anything. 5 exams with worst score dropped. Good teacher for an easy A not if you care about your education!
Honestly I could have gotten an A had I done the extra credit. Lectures are dryer than the desert, extremely boring and I found unhelpful (though I don't understand computers anyway). He wasn't a good teacher, wasn't helpful when I had questions but provides extra credit. Class is based entirely on multiple choice tests.
If you memorize the textbook and memorize the online quizzes you will get an A. That being said, you will not be taught anything useful by Hansen. Take this class from someone else.
I rated the class as "hard" only because Hansen turned what could have been a fun and engaging class into a mindless bore that seemed drag on forEVVVER. He knows his stuff, but takes 5 minutes to answer a question that could've easily been answered in 20 seconds (no exaggeration, this happened most classes). Awful teacher, good academic researcher.
It was difficult to stay awake in this class. If you memorize the NJR's (online quizzes) and do the case studies (Extra credit cases are about the same as the cases. Do those to solidify your grade), then you will Ace this class. No need to come to the non quiz nights or stay after you're done with your quiz. Unfortunate, but that's all to do well.
I took the hybrid (don't know if there is any other option) and I don't see why everyone has a problem with this teacher! He was very helpful and replied to my questions so quickly through email. It is a super easy A! He gives you so many opportunities to get an A . Exra credit-projects and exam. Best 3/4 exams. Isn't that what everyone wants?
If you really want to learn, do not go to his class. He gave unlimited attempts for all the quizzes, but do not fall for it. It will make you sick. His lectures were all about questions from your quizzes. He really made this course meaningless.
Dont waste your time with this guy. His class is a complete waste of your time and money. Everything is in the book. His d2l and potential grading is confusing. And as other on here have stated he is SO weirdly paranoid and not just cheating, but you and your fellow student even helping each other. The guy has issues. AVOID!
Well basically memorize the quizes and you will do well on the tests. Give plenty of opportunities to pass the class with extra credit assignments. Only go to the exam days, other days will do you no good. He's a nice guy but is HYPER paranoid about cheating. If you care about your education you should take it from someone else.
Deathfully boring. Useless to come to class. On the other hand, Hdawg is very straightforward with course structure. If you do well throughout the term you dont even have to show up for the final. Who doesnt want that option.
It's a shame this class has to be so detail orientated on book definitions. You learn to memorize the chapters word for word. Confusion is high as it is difficult to memorize every nit pick definition. Lecture time is 50% off topic & 45% not test helpful. Only 5-15 minutes is on test material. He is helpful & nice during office hours though.
If you like Care Bears take this class.
Hansen is a great teacher instructions are clear as day if you fail this class then I don't know how you able to make it through the day. The exams are long and you do have to study but its not difficult. I would def recommend him. The callas is boring what you expect from ID class tho.
I’d recommend taking someone else for this class. Mr. Hansen spends most of his time talking about cheating, as if every student is out to cheat their way through his class. You must stay the entire class in order to get points for the day, and he’ll make you print copies of your ID and hand it in so he knows you stayed the entire class.
Class was easy, but I have my CompTIA A+ certification. The material wasn't presented in a way that most people could pull off a great grade. He grades very strictly. If you can, avoid this class.
If you have a choice, don't take the class with him. If you don't have a choice, don't take the class with him. Huge waste of time, you'd have more fun staring at the wall.
Horrible teacher, avoid his classes
Hansen is a terrible prof. If you can take anyone else do it. Be prepared to buy multiple books and online material. You won't understand anything and if he tells you what is on the test, be prepared that it is actually not. You have to have Access and Excel memorized. He is a tough grader. You can be sure that most people do not pass this class.
Hansen is a nice guy and was very helpful when I went to get his help on an assignment. His lectures on the other hand are excruciating, repetitive, and provide 0 information for the exams; there is also an attendance quiz everyday. He spent a majority of lecture time talking about cheating and how disappointed he was with the students.
Yes, lectures are dry and boring (but what do you expect, its a class that is primarily about Access and Excel) bring a laptop and do your homework while he drones on and on. That being said... read the text, do the NJR's , do the SAM assignments, show up, and you can easily get an A. Especially with all the extra credit he gives.
Hansen spends most of his time in class talking about banal information. Of which, you can't tell if he's on a tangent or if you'll be tested on it. He pointlessly said that community college graduates are lesser. Tests are finicky in wording and based on memorization. He assumes you know the material. Prepare to purchase a lot of material.
If you like reading textbook and memorizing them, take this class. During class he "lectures" by going on subjects he thinks are important, but is never touched upon in the tests. To pass this class, you have to get good grades on all his online work (quizzes, NJR's , Sams project) Reread the textbook if you are struggling.
Hansen gets a lot of crap but he is an honestly funny guy who cares about what he teaches. He is VERY long-winded and prone to tangents, but if you participate, this can be fun. If you adhere to his system, the class isn't hard. You will basically need to memorize some D2L quizzes, though. This is a useful class and Hansen does his best.
Do not take this class with this teacher. Do anything you can to take someone else. you will regret the looooong lectures about nothing. dont waste your time.
Such a boring class. 7-8 slide lectures that last 1-2 hours. If you have taken a high school course on Microsoft office you will be bored. This class and instructor needs to be reformatting to fit in the 21st century where we now what a computer is and how to work it.
Nice teacher, but I left the course thinking I didn't learn a whole lot.
worse professor ever, long lecture, need ID for even take attendence, need spell check for online quiz and capitalized as well even the same answer, tough grader, direspectful and very mean, if you want a bad university experience, choose him.
I am absolutely astonished that this class is still required. This class is based on pointless memorization of exact phrases, SAM projects that feel like grade school, and long drawn out lectures. RUN, RUN from this class and this professor.
Hansen is a great teacher and is willing to help with anything if you are struggling. Be ready to do a lot of work though. It is not very hard but time consuming. You need to remember the D2L quizzes for his tests. You also need to make sure you do the SAM projects. Based on Access and Excel, which if you have back ground you will pass the class.
Hansens class for BA 325 is harder than other professors but he is really willing to help students. He met with me several times outside of class and outside of his office hours to help with assignments. Its a tough class and I really struggled all around this term and but he helped me learn what I needed to pass. Ask for help early on.
Do not take this Class............
BA325. Lectures were a bit of a drag mostly due to content. This teacher was very helpful in terms of reviewing/answering questions as well as providing information about the quizzes and tests.
Avoid this professor at all cost. He clearly doesn't care about his students and does as little as possible. It is very evident that he is never actually happy to be doing what he is doing. Everything in class must be self taught because you won't get the material from his lectures.
The class is very hard,But he will be there to help anytime you need, Even at 9:30 at night . He truly cares about every last one of the people in his class! He is great . Learned alot.
He's okay as a person, talks excessively. But his class and assignments are ridiculous. There's so much criteria you need to know for the exam and he isn't very helpful. There are no study guides. He assigns an excessive about of work outside of class that is time consuming and very dry. I would not recommend taking his class.
Avoid this professor at all cost. Hansen is very out of touch with the real world but still tries to provide life lessons. As an older student, I found him very disrespectful. The only class that has made me feel like I was in high school and being lectured at not taught.
Professor Hansen is a great instructor. Because of him, I learned a lot about computer. There are lot of things to do ( SAM project, weekly quiz, exam), but he is willingly to help you.
He's truly the worst professor I've ever had. He is derogatory towards students and constantly talks about how community college students are "not as smart" as PSU students. Professor Hansen also called out several students who receive extra time on exams during class (which is actually against the ADA). His lectures were pointless and mundane.
Agree with rater below. Totally rude when asking for help, won't admit that HE is in the wrong ever. Tough grader, lecture videos do not match the assignments so doing the assignments was extremely difficult. Worst professor ever.
This class is effectively useless. He didnt even have any material for the class, it was just reading the book. What little material was provided all came from another teacher, so some of the exam questions referenced another teachers projects. Textbook was outdated for a class called competing technologies. He was not good at answering questions
This person and this class have got to go. Absolutely the most pointless class I have ever taken, and he is terrible. Makes gross comments about women, is completely out of touch, wastes entire class periods. I've never been so infuriated by a class.
perfect for busy students. Very organized & all assignments online (except exams) Same schedule every week. Short text readings. Hes very kind, knowledgeable & passionate about the subjects and for students like me who work full time you dont have to go to class but it definitely is worth showing up when U can! Especially the day before the exams
This was one of the most unorganized, unclear, and ill-constructed classes I've ever taken at PSU. I do not normally write bad reviews, but I feel obligated to tell everyone not to take this professor's class.
The good: The class homework was all online, the tests are heavily based on the practice quiz test bank, there is extra credit and the prof drops your lowest test score. The bad: The class was a little unorganized, the professor fell behind, so we had to play catch up, the difficulty curve is ridiculous. You need to be OK with independent learning
Don't take him class... Waste your time and money.
This is the most unorganized class I have ever taken. He expects you to have a lot memorized for the exams that are closed note, and closed book but only 20 or so questions. So you have way too much stuff that you could be tested on but don't because there are only 20 questions. projects are self-paced and you get a few chances to get 100%.
Professor Hansen is a kind man. He can ramble like none other, so I found his lectures to get a little frustrating. That being said, he's the most accessible teacher I've ever had in an online course and more than willing to always help his students no matter what the issue.
The class itself is very mundane so it can be hard to stay engaged. He is very adamant about making sure you get the material and are able to pass the class though! Insistent jokes about community colleges essentially being less than and inferring they are for people with lower intelligence leading to an inept ability in traditional universities.
Difficult exams! too long and boring lectures. This class would be much easier with different professor.
Not my type of professor. Takes forever to answer simple questions, try to avoid because sometimes will not even make things clear. Need to purchase SIMnet AND Flatworld most I've spent on a class, very boring lectures. Didn't really learn anything because professor doesn't make the class interesting and lot of boring reading of excel.
A waste of class time, he doesn't add any value to the powerpoints beyond what's written. Graded attendance, scantron exams for a class that deals in excel, and awkward group discussions that go micromanaged. Only take him if you have no other option
Avoid at all costs
All the community college slander is true- he talks down to cc transfers and institutions so badly. Additionally, his lectures are awful because he tries to use IRL examples of class content, then gets lost in yapping. He offers anonymous evaluations and is very insensitive to them, even laughs at them. thank God he's retiring. Beware of this prof.
You don't need to buy the textbook, I never ended up reading it. I just used Chat gpt to study for the exam and it worked
This class can be a bit dry, but with the right prep it's manageable. The lectures are hit-or-miss, but the self-paced projects help balance things out. unstuck AI proved super useful for studying - would recommend giving it a try.
Writing this review after he's retired, but I wanted to rate still. While the course was very AI oriented, lectures contained insightful stories that contained real examples of the reading. People who say he got sidetracked probably tuned him out. Tests were easy, study guide is literally verbatim the vocab list on the textbook's page.
