He requires you to show up to class every single day on time, and will degrade you for being late. He can't stand when you talk in class and thinks it's okay to tell students to "shut up". You'll need the textbook because he doesn't explain much, you'll have to teach yourself. Also basic knowledge of Excel is needed. He does drops lowest quiz.

If you want to pass stats, dont take from him. He not only expects you to know the material in a beginning stats class, he will also riducule you in front of other students for not doing things exactly how he wants. He also does not teach the material. His lectures are him reading notes that youll just end up reading at home anyways.

Himes is a good person however not a great instructor at all. At times he makes it seem like it is a hassle to have student interactions whether it's answering clarifying questions or a student just talking to him. He would often ridicule or call out students in front of the whole class just to say they were late. He is also very unclear at times.

Unpopular opinion: If you fail a Himes math class, it's your own fault. He is VERY clear about grading, always willing to go over homework problems, gives out in-depth study guides and printed notes, and drops lowest test scores. Calculus is hard for some people but he cares about the content and generally wants his students to succeed.

Awful experience, he uses this out of date WAMAP system for homework, you'll get docked points for having one decimal, since he does not believe in unlimited retries like other teachers use you can sometimes get Cs on homework assignments. Tests are much different, they're the usual. GET THE BOOK. He is exceptionally awful at explaining+presenting

Rarely knew what was going to be on the homework, so his notes didn't correlate with what he assigned. His notes were on word documents and he quickly scrolled through the notes reading what was on each page, which never gave enough time to ask questions. Very passive-aggressive and flaky in emails. Unwilling to accommodate students' schedules.

This guy has the most useless lectures in the world. Like they don't really help with anything and after the lecture you're forced to reread the notes and chapter if you want a decent understanding of the chapter. He also dodges questions and can't even answer his own WAMAP homework questions. He's a smart dude, but unfortunately doesn't teach.

He sits in front of the class, scrolling through a word doc, with a monotone voice. Never teaches anything. You can easily get an A in this class by doing well on the few tests and the many home works/group works. You're going to need to do a lot of youtube watching. He does not reply to emails either. He swears at his students. Don't take Himes!

Dave is a nice guy, but has no ability to teach the information to students. The majority of the class feels like the lectures give them zero info to retain and you have to teach yourself Calculus.... which is not fair to students. There is no explanation of new math concepts whatsoever, no chance to learn. Stay away!

Still currently in his class. Lectures are given in a monotone voice, and the work load is unrealistic. There arent too many assignments, however the assignments can be very difficult and long, taking about 2 hours to go through with a tutor. He doesnt teach everything thats assigned, maybe one or two equations for chapter, so get a tutor.

If your are a self driven student, who can learn on your own and doesn't need a lot of group or teacher interaction this class could be good fit. Although learning online makes it much harder, I don't feel Himes really cared if we knew the material. If you ask questions, he might make reference something else, instead of explaining.

Avoid Himes at all costs. He relies on Khan academy and other online teachers to do the work for him. His lectures are all from a Microsoft Word document, rarely with any examples. He is slow to respond to emails. Attendance didn't help me learn, but he weights the in-class groupwork disproportionately highly in the final grade.

My advice, take the other professor option because math cannot be worse than it is with Himes. I couldn't rely on any of his lectures to teach anything. Going to class was a waste of time, better spent watching youtube videos on the same material to actually know what to do. Picking him as your professor will be a major regret, as it was for me.

He just reads over a word document in a monotone voice. It was so bad that multiple times I was the only person in class. He is nearly impossible to communicate with. WAMAP shows you when a professor reads your email so its clear that he reads the email and doesn't even care to respond. Even to a life threatening fam emergency during a pandemic.

RUN!!! This may have been my worst experience with a teacher yet. If you're like me and you need at least some explanation for class material, he will not provide that. He reads off a Word doc in a monotone voice that is it. He also is rude to those asking for clarity on assignments. He is also non responsive. I have been left on read twice.
