one of the best, helps anytime, concerned for students, great man, A++
He's da Man!
Awesome teacher, very helpful! Dave is the man!
Uncle Dave is by far the best Math teacher I have ever had.
Great teacher!
One of THE best math teachers. Awesome guy
Meng is awesome. Gives enough homework to keep you in touch with the material and generous when grading. He really cares that you learn it.
Ask him to pronounce posterori or a priori when you take him for Math 243. Uncle Dave cracks me up. Oh yeah, his name is pronounced "Men", as in plural for Man. Easy teacher, and the best math teacher that I have ever had.
really hard he doesnt really understand the material i had him for 243 and he was good but he sucked for 244 and his tests where way harder
great professor, always eager to help and concerned that students understand the material. would take again without question
Very good teacher. He remembers your name instantly and never forgets it. Genuinely concerned that you learn the material, and he has high expectations.
good guy good teach hard tests but all you have to do is do your hw and an A is right there for the taking you acutally learn with him
Dave is the man, that's all I should have to say. Oh you want more? He may be hard to understand at times, but he is ALWAYS willing to help out after class, during office hours, whenever. Plus his tests really are really not hard if you study. Definitely take him for all the math classes you can.
He's a good one. Not too hard, helpful, goes over the hard homework problems...you can't really go wrong with him. Sometimes hard to understand though.
I think that Dr. Meng is a great teacher. I have really enjoyed his class. I recommend him to anyone. He is very helpful and his tests are fair.
very explanatory, very clear and descriptive, lots of examples
He's not the typical foreign math instructor. You can actually understand what he is saying. Presents the material in a very clear and understandable way. Lots of examples. The homework is alot harder than the tests so if you understand the homework there is no reason you shouldn't make an A.
meng is the man! you can understand him easily and hes an awesome teacher...would recommend him to anyone! you still gotta put some effort into it and do the homework, but if you do that, youll be fine...
He is probably one of the best math teachers at Tech. He cares that you do well and wants you to take advantage of his office hours.
Meng is an excellent teacher. He does many examples in class and goes over difficult homework problems upon request. If you need any help, just drop by his office and he will clarify the material 100 percent. Dr. Meng is highly recommended.
He has to be the best math teacher at LaTech! He teaches the material extremely well and is very helpful during office hours.
Good Guy. Gotta get used to some of the words he butchers. Just go to class and ask questions. Pretty easy compared to others.
Hard to understand
Very hard to understand.
really cool, and down to earth. Is very helpful and wants you to pass his class
We spent a long time on inequalities and easy stuff like that. When we got to hard stuff, he went through it so fast and said, "I have to assume that you have already learned this." I got an A on the first test, then I had to drop it close to the end because it got so ridiculous. His teaching methods are VERY frustrating. I would take someone else
Very helpful and easy to understand. If you dont under stand something in class go by his office he will take the time to help you learn the material.
Dr Meng has an accent but isnt hard to understand. He is willing to help you until you understand but you must show the effort. Dr Meng is the man!!
Easy to understand. He gives you alot of notes which have alot of example problems in them. If you do the webwork and the problems he gives you as homework then you will understand it.
Dr. Meng is a GREAT professor! He really gives good examples in class, and explains it as many times as needed for students to understand. His tests are very appropriate to the material he covered. Easily the best professor to teach any of the 240 series.
Ole Meng..well, let's just say that I taught myself the material via BARC tutoring and the textbook the entire quarter. With his teaching alone, I would have probably come out of the class with an F. He speaks English but is sometimes hard to understand when he is talking quickly about math terms and such. Willing to help, but can't clearly explain
Dr. Meng is a very good teacher. He's very organized and very easy to understand. Do the homework, take notes, and pay attention, and you will be good to go.
Dr. Meng is a good teacher. his english is a little rough but he cares about your grade and is willing to help.
great professor, extremly helpful. the tests are great. the best math professot that I had in the university
He moves a little fast, but will always stop to explain questions! He's very clear and uses a lot of examples. Funny and nice guy, would love to have hime for the rest of my Math 240 series!
Extremely helpful and easy but it is hard to understand what he wants to say
Will help after class or during office hours, straight-forward teaching, all material included on tests.
exams are easy. He expects students to remember stuff from math 242, overall great class
He is a great teacher overall. He gives a lot of clear notes with great examples. If you don't understand something, send an e-mail and he'll respond fairly quickly. He's also great with office hours. Tests are fair and the final comes directly from the tests given earlier in the class (with different numbers).
A tad hard to understand, but overall a good teacher who explains the subject matter thoroughly. Test are graded fairly.
been a great teacher throughout my experience. he works harder than students so that students get more than what they deserve. should take one of his classes
Probably the best at Tech. There is no problem with his accent - he is perfectly understandable. He is great at answering questions. Sometimes I phrase questions oddly, but he seems to be able to read my mind and know exactly what I'm confused about. Tests are fair and accurate to his lectures.
I actually had him for 240 and 243-245. He is probably one of the best and most thorough professors on campus. He gives excellent notes and he takes the test questions from Webwork, bookwork, and examples in class. He is a funny guy and likes to lighten the mood in class. He is one of my favorite professors and I wish I could have him again!
Best teacher i've ever had. He doesn't make the class easy but you come out knowing the material very well. Extremely helpful. He's willing to answer any questions no matter how long it takes. Writes everything on the blackboard so taking notes is easy.
Very good teacher. Relates the material well, gives good notes, and tries to have fun.
Dr. Meng is the best! His notes and examples are clear. His tests are fair but challenging. What more could you ask for?
He is a nice guy and his english is really good. He goes through the material too fast, he only works 1 example and then moves on. He expects you to understand it as soon as he says it. He doesn't explain the concepts thoroughly. He is willing to help if you see him in his office. No extra credit and Aleks has to be 100% Do not take!!!
His first language isn't English, and you may have trouble at times understanding him. Extremely helpful, and test were fair from what we went over. Wish he used 'harder' examples in class to have a greater grasp on HW. He has a lot of WebWork and Aleks, the only real downside if you like free time. Aleks helps a lot though. I'd take him again.
If you think his class was hard, you are an idiot.
Meng is an excelent teacher who gives great notes. however, study for the tests or you will die...they are brutal.
he's pretty tough but he is easy to work with. he doesn't curve anything. he does aleks and webwork
Incredibly difficult. Statistics is difficult to understand as it is, but added to his accent makes this class a challenge. He assigned a large but fair amount of Web Work. He had only three tests and a final, The final test grade is averaged with your lowest test grade and that percentage will replace your lowest. Not bad if your good at math.
Dr. Meng is, by far, one of the best professors at Tech. Granted, his tests require you to study and take you to your limits, but his enthusiasm for math and his willingness to help students allows any student to learn the material if they desire. I had him for 242 and 245 and I wish I could have taken him for the entire 240 series. Excellent!
He is nice and very helpful. Very good teacher. but for 240 , u have to do a LOT of homework. but for 241 its not much
Great teacher. Covers all the material thoroughly and actually challenges students. One of the best math professors at Tech.
Absolutely great professor. His examples are very easy to understand and EVERYTHING on his tests comes from the notes. Show up and you will be fine
Dr. Meng is a very good math teacher. You have to get use to accent but the examples he shows helps A LOT! He is also very helpful, if you have a question, ask him and he'll gladly help you. We didn't have book work to do but I did use my book to do suggest problems while studying.
He is the worst teacher I have taken. He does not teach, you write notes all class, he copies straight from a piece of paper that has all of his notes and examples that are already worked out so you don't get to actually see the math being done, and you can not understand him because of his accent.
Dr. Meng is an ok teacher. But let me tell you when its Dr. Meng "NO means NO"
Dr. Meng is a very smart man, but is a little too smart for his own good. He gives a lot of notes and a fair number examples, but it is pretty hard to get the process down because you never do practice work in class. His tests are BRUTAL. My class went from 45ish to 17 after the drop date. Not an easy teacher but will help you. Read the book though
He doesn't like surprises so his test are fair.
Dr. Meng is a great teacher. English is his second language, but he works really hard to make sure that he is understood. Knows the subject really well, and is very good at explaining it in a way that's digestible.
Had Dr Meng for 3 math classes; one of my favorite professors. Brilliant lecturer with a subtle but genius sense of humor.
Great teacher and pretty funny sometimes. I'd take him for every math class if I could. Explains material really good, my grade in 241 was a C but that was due to me being lazy, not his fault.
Dr. Meng is one of my favorite professors at Tech. He gives plenty of examples in class, and actually tests you on what he teaches you. Anyone a decent way in to Engineering knows that is a rarity. I've had him four times and I would still take him again.
Dr. Meng has become one of my favorite math professors at Louisiana Tech. The class was challenging but the test are fair. If you ever need help just go to him during his office hours and he will help you out no problem. He also gives a lot of partial credit on test but no curve. I would have taken him again for 243. Would recommend him to anyone.
Professor Meng knows his stuff but be ready to read up and use Khan Academy to help you out in his class. He gives lots of good examples and he never tests over things that were not covered in class or on the WebWork. He gives 3 tests and a cumulative final so every grade MATTERS. You need to study and stay on top of things if you want to make an A
Dr. Meng is organized, crystal-clear, and very funny. He basically has all of his lectures memorized. I can tell he cares about his students. I wish he could teach all of my classes. English, biology, etc... I took him for 4 math classes in a row. THANK YOU Dr. Meng!
Amazing professor, I would definitely take him again. He's a fair grader, his tests are fair. Also has a good sense of humor.
Dr. Meng is funny and open about his personal life during class, but he also knows when to get down to business. You don't really need the book except for extra practice. Tests are hard, but he takes every test limiting himself to 25 minutes and makes up for it with partial credit and great teaching skills. Would, without a doubt, take him again.
Meng is a very fair instructor. The class itself is graded by homework, 3 tests, and a final, so you need to make sure not to slip up. The tests are similar to notes, and he even warns what to make sure to know the class before. I would definitely take Meng again as he is a very fair and structured teacher.
Great teacher, speaks clearly, and he knows what he's talking about. He runs the class like you'd expect, but his accent is hard to understand at times. Exams carry a large portion of the grade.
Most challenging professor I've taken. Highly intelligent. Gives many examples and is patient. He is very easy to talk to, and happy to help you outside of class time. If you can handle a challenge, take him!
He tells you exactly what to expect on the tests. His explanations are clear and it was easy to understand in class without having to rely on teaching yourself or Khan Academy. He also posted his notes online so it was helpful for review. I hope I can to take him in future math classes because he makes concepts a lot simpler to understand.
Lots of notes.
Hes nice, but if you dont get the material he will look at you as if you are dumb. Only take him if you have a well understanding of math. He will try to help you, but will answer you sarcastically. He once told his classes that if you dont get it by now, you arent trying hard enough. Also directly copies from a piece of paper for notes.
Probably your best choice for the 240 series. He does an amazing job of explaining the material and writing down problems step by step so you're able to go back and understand it. His test really aren't that bad, especially when compared to other 242 sections. He makes his webwork due on the test date, and is great about helping you with it.
If you're struggling with anything, GO SEE HIM OUTSIDE OF CLASS. He has a thick accent and goes really fast in class. His tests are hard- a lot of the questions are ones he uses as examples IN CLASS. Make sure you go!
Dr. Meng knows what he's teaching about and will even help you outside of class. Although he has a thick accent, he is not hard to understand. He's got a great sense of humor and makes class enjoyable. The tests are challenging but he grades fairly with partial credit. I will take him again.
Look Meng is magic in many ways. But he can't just give you the grade. And the material will slap you in the face and then kick you in the face. Pay attention to Parameterization, Line, and Surface Integrals. His notes only give a few examples. Those are on the test. Study them. And make sure to ask for 5 exams. It spreads out the awful, trust me.
Had him for 4/6 of 240's. In 245, around halfway, the notes past the exams, meaning you are learning material for the test after next, which is extremely difficult. When you take Meng on TR, he is exhausting due to the volume of material. His lectures are a marathon. Tests are good, grading fair. In summary, to learn, take Meng 9/10 for any math
If you want to take a professor who will actually teach you the material. This is the professor you would want to take. He teaches really well and he is a fair grader. However, I would not recommend taking him if you are "decent" or below average in math. Only take him if you know you'll work for it.
Adapted his lectures and class material very well to the Covid-19 outbreak in the spring. Made his lectures and notes acsessible on moodle for students to use at any time. Is good with helping you work around techical diffuclties
Meng is one of the best professors for calc. He teaches really well, although he can be hard to understand sometimes. His test aren't ridiculously difficult considering it is a calc class. If you go to all his classes you should do fine.
I honestly just didn't enjoy his class. He has been known to fail students at a 69.5 so you get what you get.
Dr. Meng is an amazing professor, honestly. If you struggle with math, the course will be pretty difficult. His tests are hard and you need to study. He will always answer questions and explain again if you need him to. Not the best for me personally, but if you're willing to work for it you'll do okay.
Dr. Meng is a wonderful teacher and he goes into enough depth for his students to adequately grasp his material. His tests are difficult, but he does make sure that his students have the material so they have the opportunity to learn it for the test.
Dr. Meng is the pinnacle of mathematics here at Tech. If you have the opportunity to take Meng, DO IT IMMEDIATELY. His skillset is unmatched by any professor, this man knows his stuff. He also possesses incredible teaching skills that makes learning very easy They don't call him 'Math Daddy' for no reason...
He moves fast and you need to show up to class to learn the material. The tests are hard but he gives lots of credit for showing your work. He is also unintentionally hilarious. He is very willing to help as well.
