Dave unconsciously harbors several unexamined subjective premises that tend to naturalize gendered discourse throughout the shifting and contested terrain of his lectures.

Very nice man, very interesting teacher.
Just lots and lots of notes....not very interesting teacher, tedious with some things. You have to write a couple essays, and he really picks them apart. Not an easy class, but if all you want is lots of note-taking, tests and some essays, he's the teacher for you.
Pretty boring. Only lectures and notes, poorly organized and chronologically confusing. Quizzes are easy, tests are all essays. Grades sort of hard, won't ever give out a perfect grade. Always tell him as much as you can, even if he says he only few sentences, he doesn't know what he really wants.
Took lots of notes. He is a tough grader on essays. If you go to class take notes/pay attention. The tests will be fairly easy, did better than I thought 4.0. Took the night class. Not much homework read 2 books and did maybe 5 "assignments"
Great class, I recomend it. Great teacher, explains everything well, made history interesting
all notes, and lectures, pretty boring but is pretty easy if u pay attention
He's alright, lots of notes and even a few papers. I wasn't too interested, because he droned on. I guess if you have near as much passion for history like him, you might be better off.
Really Cool Guy:) The class is alot of note taking but that is what the test are on.
Mr. Norberg is a very good teacher. He presents the content in an interesting manner, and keeps the class fairly easy, though it is by no means a cake walk. His class is one of the only history classes that I've taken, high school or college, that is basically unbiased pollitically.
I HATE THIS CLASS. And he is so annoying he talks weird
I took history of the Civil War with Mr. Norberg and it was the best class ever! He is a great instructor and is very passionate about the subject. Make an honest effort to work hard and you will do well in the class.
Really knowledgable about the subject and good at answering questions. Don't bother with the textbook readings though, all the test and quiz material comes from class notes. Be sure to sit up front, his handwriting is pretty hard to read at times.
He really knows his stuff and always starts the class with "first off, any questions." Very helpful and made the class interesting. Best history teacher i've ever had.
Lots of notes and discussion so class attendence is important. It would be easy to fall behind if you arent there. Otherwise, its an easy class and he explains everything really clear.
Lots of notes but he writes EVERYTHING on the bored. And I didnt believe when people said dont buy the text book...but really NO NEED TO BUY IT! Unless you plan on not showing up to class.ANd there are really no suprises, he is VERY helpful with tests and quizes. All you have to do is read your notes.
Great teacher, knows his stuff, answers all questions. Lots of notes, fairly easy tests, mostly multiple choice 10 q's with an extra credit question. Essays kinda suck, but he grades fairly easy. Fair latework policy.
Extremely knowledgeable about history (as a history teacher should be), especially when relating world events to Washington State, or local events in particular. I actually learned a whole lot in this class, without stressing over the work.
I took his class online, and even over the internet you can tell he's very passionate about history. He gives good feedback on assignments. If I ever have to take another history class I'll probably take one of his.
This was definitely the hardest and probably my least favorite class that I have EVER taken. I, personally, found his lectures confusing and hard to follow. Also, his handwriting sucks. lol So, I highly recommend sitting as close to the board as possible and not off to the side. He is very passionate about history though, so I give him his props.
He really wants you to succeed. If you go up and talk to him, he will help you with anything that you need help with. Norberg is totally willing to explain his reasoning when you get something wrong. He is an ubber awesome person and he looks like an awesome pirate!!!!
Norberg is by far one of the best teachers. His notes are all easy to follow and his tests are fairly easy. Most of his quiz questions come right out of the notes. So as long as you review over them you are golden for the quizes
Dave is a great teacher he has gone way above and beyond for his students. His ability to share his knowledge and as some one else said earlier take notes and you are golden !
very smart overall great teacher..just dont take me morning classes because you might be tempted to fall asleep if you study its an easy 3.5 study hard and u got a 4.0
AMAZING teacher. He wants you to succeed and his tests come right from the notes. He has review sheets that have all the essay questions on them prior to your exams!
Very nice instructor:))) as long as you are familiar with your notes, you will be fine~~~~~
Norberg is amazing!! He is extremely helpful. All you have to do is ask questions and he will clarify. You need to show up to class every day to take notes but he never puts anything on the tests that he doesn't go over. He grades pretty hard on the essay questions on the tests but the quizzes are super easy as long as you look over notes!
Norberg is a really great teacher. He always made everything really interesting and kept the class entertained with his enthusiasm and his random, quirky facts. The tests are rather pressed for time, but if you study, you'll do fine. Loved this class, even though I'm not a big history person. He is also very helpful. He knows his stuff.
Even tough he talks really fast, the material is understandable, even if I am an international student that has never heard of any American History before.
Dave Norberg is an extremely helpful instructor and also is very knowledgeable in the subject of history. He is very good at explaining the material to his students in a way which creates somewhat interest in the topic-at-hand. He gives review questions before his exams and even allows rough drafts before the final essay is due-take full advantage!
I'm an international student and it is my first quarter here taking his history. Profs Norberg is a very helpful teacher and he explains things well. If you have any questions you always feel free to ask him and email him. The key to get good grade is to keep regular attendance and figure out questions in review sheet before test. Awesome teacher!
Norberg is amazing!! I was never really big on history before but he made it really interesting. He's super helpful and passionate about his subject. I would love to take another class with him and am really sad that I probably won't be able to. He is such a good teacher. One of the best I've had!
Norberg is by far the best history teacher there. He is interesting and very knowledgeable, and very helpful.
Norberg is really nice; he always pauses during his lectures to ask if anyone has questions & is really thorough with his explanations. Show up to class, study your notes, and go over his test review sheets & you'll do well(some review questions appear on the test). I'm not into history very much, but he makes it interesting!
Norberg is one of my favorite teachers. He makes it so easy for me! he allows us to arrive 5 minutes late and takes attendance like 7 minutes into the class and then talks and then we leave. He never embarresses kids by calling on them. Exelent teacher.
Such a good teacher. Makes things really easy to understand and his tests are pretty easy. He grades everything pretty easy as well. Best teacher I've ever had.
Overall, he's a fantastic teacher. Classes are interesting. Don't buy the textbook, you won't need it. The tests are just the review but the questions mixed up. The essay was a pain to write because the topic wasn't very interesting to me, so it was really tough to come up with four pages. On the tests, be sure to write specific examples!!!
He is a fantastic teacher. Obviously loves this job. Poor guy looks like he's overworking himself a bit. Talks fast so if you have his morning class, be alert. Overall, just pay attention and you will do fine, just like anything else.
He's a great teacher. His lessons are clear, and he'll definitely help you as much as you can. Theoretically, I should get around a 3.8 or 3.9 but in the end I got a 4.0. You can email him your outline for your essay and he'll correct it for you. His exams are easy too, they're basically review questions but they're jumbled up.
Very nice teaching and test style, focused far more on getting the big picture then the random little facts. Make sure you go to class though!
Definitely among the few best teachers I've ever had. So helpful, clear, and excited about history. It's contagious! He has a silly/wry sense of humor that makes certain aspects of history very funny and enjoyable. Barely use the textbook if at all. He tells you everything you need to know. If you have attend regularly and study some, it's easy.
US History 1...Who wants to take that? you do!!! this is an awesome prof. I learned a lot beyond stuffy text stuff and got over my history woes. don't get me wrong, history isn't a new found love. he just opened my eyes towards the importance of history. Take notes. Pay attention when he writes :idea or concept. great instructor. ill take him again
He is seriously the best history teacher I've ever had. Quizzes are at the end of every week, only 10-12 questions. Mid-Term and Final were easy too. Literally all you have to do is take good notes (cause he gives good ones), look over them, and listen. Never used the text book once. Very helpful with any questions and responding.
Best history teacher I've ever had. Very easy to work with because he shows so much for passion in what he teaches and this is what i really like about him. He explains what he teachers in great depth and i do enjoy attending his classes a lot. He isn't that easy, but if you are willing to work hard, getting a good grade wouldn't be a problem.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. It helps how passionate he is about history. Knows things by heart compared to always reading from a book. Was always there to offer help in any way. Good at giving time to finish assignments. No trick questions on tests. Graded assignments fast. Looks young for 40. Very nice teacher compared to all others.
Very helpful and loves history. He explains everything very well and he writes everything on the board in great note form. As long as you write everything that he writes on the board and look over it you should have no problem with the quiz and exams.
He is really helpful. And his steps are very clear. It is easy to take his class as long as you follow his steps. There are not many homework. Everything he teach is very organized.
BEST INSTRUCTOR EVER. HE WOULD SPEND TIME WITH YOU TO HELP YOU TO FIGURE OUT PROBLEMS. HOWEVER, HE IS NOT EASY AT ALL YOU HAVE TO WORK HARD. TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU WANT TO LEARN SOMETHING. DON'T BE LATE.
He doesn't teach HIstory at all, but it likes he telling us stories from the past. His teaching approach is understandable and his knowledge on history is a thumb up! You want to take note (which he always write on the board) in his class and as long as you do so, an A isn't hard to get at all ;)
BEST HISTORY TEACHER EVER!! VERY HELPFUL, VERY NICE!
Great Professor. Willing to take the time to help you + he offers extra credit. He writes down everything on the board and if you copy it down and study it you will ace the tests. Don't procrastinate and you will get an A. Fun class, prof. makes you want to participate in class. Take his class, you wont regret it!
David is awesome. Class is awesome. If you take his class, you're awesome
One of the best teachers I have ever had. He is extremely helpful, reasonable in his expectations, and his lecture notes is exactly what is on the test. One drawback is the fact that he grades attendance, but outside of that, take his class!
Best history teacher evaaa !!! m He writes notes on the board, just need to copy and study all of them and you'll get good grades on exams. His assignments are very easy, just work on them seriously and turn in ON TIME good grades. He speaks really fast sometimes, but you can always ask him to slow down :)
Dave is a really cool teacher. He explains things super clearly, and is always making sure nobody is confused about the content of his lectures. Go to class, study a little and you will easily pass.
The BEST history teacher I've ever had!!! Strongly recommend!!! You just need to take notes and remember, then 4.0!
He is absolutely Amazing! He love what he's teaching. All you need to do is write down what puts on the board and you'll do great. He even offers workshops for the papers. Best professor ever:) p.s. Don't get the text book - it's never used
DAVE. NORBERG. MY MAN. By far my favorite professor at Green River. I never really liked history but real talk, after his class -I've never been so intrigued. I don't even care if I'm biased, he is the best professor ever. He's so knowledgeable & passionate about history. Definitely show up to class because the notes life. Bless this man.
I love Norberg!, Norberg is the one of the best teachers I've ever had. There are only 3 tests with multiple choice and two short essays which are not difficult if you look over your notes. If you copy down the notes he writes on the white board you are golden for tests. Norberg explains the subject in an interesting and easy to understand manner.
Mr. Norberg makes history more interesting to me at least.
amazing lectures, great teacher!
Be prepared for all his different plaid button ups every day! Great teacher overall! But damn he makes you read a book and write a 5 page essay on it; but he is sooo helpful if you go to his office hours man. I tried hard enough and got a 3.6!
Great teacher, not a very tough grader. Presents history in an engaging way. he writes on the board, and if you write down all the notes you will get 4.0. several multiple choice quizzes, midterm, a final, and research paper. Always responds to emails and canvas messages. he's also pretty flexible and willing to work with you if something comes up.
loved this class! he walks very fast and wears a lot of plaid button ups. i learned a sufficient amount in this class. i met some great friends from that class too! i think i like history even more after taking him. norberg for lifeeee mannn.
Dave is really passionate about history. He encourages questions and answers everything you ask. He keeps the class on schedule in a decent pace. He really makes history interesting, sort of telling a story instead of a lecture. 4 easy quizes, 1 paper and 2 exams. The class is easy and I would recommended taking HIST136 instead.
His lectures are amazing! You learn so much everyday so skipping class is NOT a good idea. His lectures are interesting and easy to understand. I honestly looked forward to this class everyday! The class is easy because his exams and quizzes are based off his lectures, but you do need to make an effort to study to do well on them.
One of the best professors I had this academic school year. His passion for the subject really shows and he puts in a ton of work outside of class to help his students. He made a huge impact on me as a student and through his class I discovered I have a passion for the environment. Never a boring day in his class.
He encouraged me a lot during class lectures and office hours. Going to class and taking all the notes from what he wrote and said are the great ways to prepare for the exam. Working hard and just asking him whenever you need clarification. Highly recommended.
Great professor. His lectures were straightforward and easy to understand also his test were easy because he told you what was on the test and he gave you all the information. The class didn't have a lot of homework but he did have a few readings although they weren't hard.
One of my favorite teachers ever! His lectures are really good, and he clearly cares a lot. He is really helpful outside of class as well, and answers questions in class. Tests are difficult essay questions, but you can definitely be successful if you pay attention in class. I really enjoyed this class, and plan on taking more classes with him.
Listening to his lectures is like listening to one continous story. Its great. Take notes, listen, easy 4.0
Dave was a great guy. He loved questions and was always happy to answer them. Lots of notetaking but he lectures in a way where it makes notetaking easy. When he's unsure of the answer to a question, he'll admit that he doesn't know but he will also give a very detailed estimate as to what the answer could be, he never just said no and ignored it.
Taking this class was very refreshing to me because Norberg is so passionate about history- he sparked my interest in the subject, even though I'm a math major! The class is very manageable (only three tests and three online quizzes, with very little homework), and he always gives clear information on his expectations for tests and assignments.
He does not give out extra credit! Beware! Also he only gives notes, not teach. This is the real truth, he doesnt have a clear grading criteria and doesnt teach enough for the exams. Dont take him.
Norberg is so nice. We never needed the textbook. There was 3 quizzes 3 test and 3 writing assignments. The writing assignments were only 500 words long so not bad.
Professor Norberg it really great at giving lectures, even if you are not into the history he makes you interested in the topics covered! There is no tricks to any assignment, quizzes, and exams as long as you look over your notes and pay attention you should do well!! 10/10
History is a subject that has a lot of lecturing, but he makes it interesting and I learned a lot from him.
He is very thorough and a kind guy, but lecture after lecture can get super boring. I just wish he would spice things up, even a few more group discussions. The midterm and final were manageable and nothing to stress over. If you love taking notes, this class if for you.
Often times students think of history as one of the more boring classes. I myself enjoyed the lectures in this class. He takes history for what it is and gives great depth to the subject. A great and understandable teacher, I highly recommended him.
really easy just take notes. gives clear study guides.
This class was very interesting and he explained all the material so well. As long as you study, you will have a good grade. Also, he posts the questions on the test and lets you have a notecard! Hes a great teacher and is happy to answer questions!
Dave's a nice guy, and obviously a good professor and person. I got a C+ because I messed up on one of my exams, but he's pretty clear in his lectures and assignments about what to do and how things happened in history. His handwriting is a little messy but overall, really solid and good professor.
One of the best teachers I've had in awhile. The lectures are where you get all the material needed for tests, so make sure to take notes. His class was never boring, and he gave good feedback on tests.
There are 3 writing assignments, 3 exams, and online assignments. The lectures can get long and boring. Just write down everything on the board and read the sections he highlights in class from the textbook. There are study guides for each exam, and no cumulative final exam. I would recommend taking this class with a friend if you can!
Honestly this was a easy class just as long as you looked at the notes you take in class. But overall you can skip this class a ton and still pass. He's very particular about details of certain events. The tests are fairly long but rather easy and have like 10 multiple choice questions and 3 Essay questions per quiz it seems sometimes less.
Such an amazing professor! He does not assign a lot of work but, you definitely have to do the work that is assigned to get a good grade. His lectures are so great and interesting it really makes time fly. He cares about his students and it really shows, highly recommend to take his class if you have the chance to
Dave is a really nice guy and wants the best for everybody. His class was very interesting and easy to manage. I recommend sitting up front as his hand writing is a little hard to read.
David Norberg is such a good teacher with excellent teaching skills. He doesn't just know know how to be a teacher, he also knows how to impact knowledge into students and does an excellent job carrying the class along while teaching.
Want to know what he gives weekly? 5 quizzes every week with a reading on each quiz, and then an essay of 1000 words about every 2 weeks. In total, there is 6 essays to do... LIKE WHAT? And you have to be specific in answering the question for the exam. If you don't, takes a lot of points off. Im the type to do work and well, but this class nope!
Mr. Norberg is a caring teacher who tries to make sure his students succeed. This quarter he took any late work and changed the final essay to extra credit! Essay every 2wks of about 4 pages. Didn't like how he graded the essays. Seemed to pick on the layout and and what I left out, then what was actually in the paper, but only lost a few points.
The only good thing was he took all the late assignments without penalties this quarter. Gives lots of reading quizzes weekly, and they are pretty tough. Also had to read a lot of the textbooks and watch his videos. Short writing assignments once in 1-2 weeks, and two long writing assignments. He graded hard on the writing, never totally satisfied.
Literally so nice and really knowledgeable. He goes in-depth where he needs to but not in a way that's boring, he's really good at giving a broad look on topics so you can fully grasp them. For my class there was an essay per unit -so a total of 5 this quarter- and it goes pretty fast so definitely keep up with the work or you'll get behind
His lectures were very engaging. It's clear that he has a real passion for history and that he cares about his students' well-being. Not too difficult to catch up if you fall behind on reading assignments, but if you stay on track the content is pretty straightforward. For my quarter, he accepted late work without penalty which was a godsend.
The class was only difficult due to the essays and mid/final exams. He's a bit of a harsh grader and a lot of reading, no payment for textbook, he provides them in Canvas. For my quarter he did allow late work and complete open notes during exams. Lectures are good but are important to understand the material, definitely attend them.
Get 100% on quizzes bcs it can make or break ur grade. Final and midterm graded harsh and he doesn't give good feedback on essays. One wrong word can get u marked down and tank ur grade. He is very passionate and willing to talk. No extra credit! He is a nice teacher, just rough on grading.
Prof Norberg is a really great teacher. He clearly cares a lot about the subject matter and the lectures are interesting. When I took this class, there were no due dates at all, you just had to get it done by the end of the quarter. Easy quizzes and essay writing. Definitely recommend!
THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER! You could turn in the essays whenever you wanted, but you had to complete 5 essays before the quarter. The essays were fairly easy. The class was interesting, and the material was great. Lots of notes, but they help with tests. Tests weren't timed. 5 easy questions a test per week. Great that the due dates weren't strict.
Dave was a great lecturer and a good person. I felt like he cares about his students a lot and would give up his time to be as accessible and open to really any inquiries you may have as possible. We had 3 tests and like 3-4 quizzes. No homework besides quick online work on Fridays! There was a lot of material to cover but he did it just right!
Great lectures! I learned so much this quarter from him! There is a lot to cover and it does move fast but Mr. Norberg does a great job connecting everything. Downside on tests there is a written part where he is very specific about the words you use and what you write. quizzes = multiple choice, typically with an extra credit question too.
Loved this class, the professor was accommodating and enthusiastic when answering questions. We had 3 tests and 3 quizzes and we learned everything from his lectures + 1 online component a week. The tests/quizzes had an extra credit question and were very easy as long as you paid attention in class and took notes. Highly recommend!
Probably one of the better Professors for history at this college. Tests are easy with many opportunities to receive extra credit. I'd argue this class is even easier than High school AP courses.
Dave was an incredible professor, he cares about his student and also explain very well!!
I took this class for a history credit and ended up really enjoying it. The professor was understanding and very knowledgeable so he could answer any questions clearly. One thing to know going into this class is that the exams are graded tough but as long as you have all your notes and an understanding of the concepts, you will be fine!!
FALL 23 - Hybrid There was 3 exams (10 multiple choice questions + 2 or 3 writing questions) and 3 quizzes (10 multiple choice questions)- usually an extra credit question w/ quizzes + exams. There was also online work ,but it wasn't challenging at all. Textbook was required - wasn't really necessary. Lectures are very important for the exams.
Lecture every single day, some weekly online assignments but it takes like 30 minutes. Some MCQ quizzes, but super easy. 3 exams, the last one isn't cumulative, which was good to hear. All exams have 2-3 writing questions w/ 2-3 paragraphs. All the quizzes & exams had an extra credit question. Says you need a textbook but we didn't use it. ez 4.0
Super cool guy. History is my least fav subject but he made it really fun to learn. You do have to take a lot of notes but during his lectures he writes down everything so you're basically copying him. I would suggest making a friend in that class incase you miss a lecture so you can share notes. Overall he's a really good professor.
Norberg is one of my favorite professors I've ever had. As long as you show up to class and take notes on his lectures, you're almost guaranteed a good score. No textbook, no homework other than online readings on Fridays (but only minimal effort must be provided), and super engaging lectures. Highly recommend!
Professor Norberg is very passionate about what he teaches, and I think that makes his lectures way more engaging and easier to follow. He has a sense of humor while remaining professional. There is pretty much zero homework, and as long as you take good notes during the lectures, you'll easily pass on the quizzes. 10/10 would reccomend!
His lectures were extremely helpful and he assigned a few articles to read and some discussions but not too much. He is extremely knowledgeable and can answer any question but he is also very nice. He is understanding towards personal issues and if you attend the lectures and take notes and read the assigned articles you will definitely do well.
Mr. Norberg is a fantastic teacher. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about history! His lectures were entertaining and kept me engaged. It is test-heavy, though, with three exams and a weekly test. Make sure to study and take good notes, you'll be fine. He gives pretty solid feedback on tests when he hands them back which is nice!
Easy class, no homeworks but there is quizzes. 3 exams total. just a lot of note taking, and he writes small so if u have a poor eyesight, make sure to sit in the front tbh.
Literally the best prof ever. Extremely caring!!!!!! There's online work but it's only articles (sometimes) and lecture videos that aren't long. A LOT of note taking if you don't mind that. Overall amazing professor and extremely caring and kind and very easy to talk to!
Professor Norberg's HIS137 class is engaging and manageable. With minimal homework, clear lectures, and easy assessments, the course is well-structured. Leveraging unstuckstudy and taking good notes can help ace this class.
Genuinely a great history professor. Passionate and knowledgeable about what he teaches. Super engaging and interesting throughout. Best history teacher I've had.
Mr. Norberg was a great professor who gave all the information and resources you needed to pass the class. To make your class experience better I recommend asking all the questions you have and make sure to visit office hours if you need help! It shows that he's very passionate about what he teaches!
He doesn't take attendance but I would say showing up to class is mandatory since his teaching is lecture based. You can tell his love for history which his enthusiasm showed, making learning history fun. I took 3 quizzes and 3 exams in his class. Overall, Professor Norberg is an amazing professor and I recommend taking any of his classes!
Hard Hard Hard Hard Hard Hard Hard Hard
I have never loved a teacher so much in my life. Professor Norberg is an excellent teacher and I would take him again if I could. He doesn't give homework so stress wise I never worried about this class ever. He is also very kind and flexible with moving exams around for you. I would skip to class because I was so happy.
