Gives pop quizzes that count for extra credit, keeps a list of grades so you can see how you are doing compared to the rest of the class. Not a blowoff class but easy to do well if you pay attention to lecture and read text.

Suffice to say, I was challenged by this man. And that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Excellent teacher. He is very clear on what is going to be on the tests, and I found a lot of the lectures to be interesting. You can see how you're doing in the class every week on a chart that he posts.

Very organized and interesting teacher. The class was challenging without being impossible, and plenty of opportunities for bonus points. I enjoyed his class very much and would gladly take another class with him.

This guy was really cool! He did make you challlenge yourself, but he wasn't an ass. He was very organized and professional. H e treats you like an equal.

great class, posts a spreadsheet showing where you stand everyday, gives bonus point quiz for showing up when attendance is low and easy research paper. explains well and is willing to help outrside the office. sometimes vague with examples but awesome teacher,highly recommended, somwhat hard test

He's a great teacher. I enjoyed classes with him a lot. He gives extra credit in a form of pop quizes usually twice per chapter. His tests are hard though

Difficult course, but lots of bonus points were made available which helped a lot of people's grades. He definitely knows what he's talking about and in order to succeed you need to pay attention and take notes. He's interesting but can be monotonous at times.

Awsome! I love Shavalia! He's so funny espicelly when he makes fun of students who are dumb and don't keep their mouths shut! It's awsome! This class is so easy you don't have to open your book till the take home test! His lectures are all you need to pass the tests + a little studying. lol

He is a great techer. I reccomend him to anyone taking psychology.

This teacher is awesome. Must take him for psychology, he has funny stories and is very interesting. He'll make you like psychology as long as you go to his class, so don't be a lazy **** and go to school like you should.

The class is easy if you come to class to take notes. Also, the tests are somewhat difficult, but the bonus quizzes are very easy. So, come to class and take notes.

If you take this class independently, expect a lot of homework. There is extra credit for every unit, if you have time to do it. The tests are kind of challenging.

he is a cool guy. class is boring, but easy if you show up and take notes. no homework (there is one short paper). attendence isnt mandatory. lots of extra credit. gives one whole class period for review before tests(unnecessary, i never went). the final is only on the second half of the course because he doesnt expect you to remember everything

Rawest Psychology teacher U'll EVER GET!!! He seems like a grumpy old man, but he is a really good teacher! He explains everything like hes talking to a baby!! I understood everything perfectly!! He gives out extra credit almost every day!!..SO USE IT!!!

All right teacher. His class isn't impossible, and he does offer several extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. I did have slight difficulty with the tests, but had I studied my notes and the books I would have been fine. Still got a B though.

Good teacher. He TRULY wants to help his students get the grade they want and to go somewhere with their lives (without making them feel like crap). Come to class and take notes and you're set. One of our exams was take home. He gives out extra credit a lot in the morning (especially for our class because it was early) from the previous day's lec.

He is really cool. At first he seems intimadating by his appearance but he isnt at all. You use your textbook but not in class just when you study. We get no homework, we only get tests (6) plus final. One is take home. He is really cool when you get to know him. I recommend him, just pay attention and do what you need to and youll pass I got an A+

He speaks and explains clearly. And he likes jokes. There is only one assignment for the whole semester. He likes you to come to his office and chat. The book is good. This is the most interesting class I have ever taken. If you show up for the random extra credit quizzes and group exercises, you are practically guaranteed an A.

Great teacher! Your grade is based only on tests, but he explains things very well & if you take good notes the tests are super easy. He gives 5pts xtra credit when you show up for tests on time & an xtra credit essay. One test is take-home. He has a sarcastic sense of humor, very funny! He's scary on the first day, but don't be discouraged!

truly gentle caring man. very knowledgeable and clear with everything he says! at first he seems strict and mean but hes nothing like that. his tests consist of information he presents in class, really down to earth guy, makes funny remarks! i will be taking all classes he teaches in the future!!

GREAT professor overall. Nice guy,makes the material interesting. His psych class is taught by lecture, so make sure to take notes. He gives you a list of terms you need to know for the tests. As long as you pay attention in class and study the terms you'll do well. Ask questions and get involved! Its a really interesting class, you learn a lot :)

I'm not the type of student that really likes to interact in a class but man, was this class boring. He seems very emotionless sometimes, and other times he's okay. You only use your book for a take home test, and the notes are from his lectures.

Great teacher! You might think he's boring,but if you actually pay attention & you are interested, it's an okay class. I suggest participation because it helped me out a lot. DON'T PURCHASE THE BOOK REQUIRED! You only really need it for one take home test, & you can lend it from the library then. Only tests, and they are from a keyword outline!

He's a VERY caring and helpful professor, and makes class fun and interesting: really a nice guy. Multiple-choice exams, 50-point final, and you get 5 bonus points for showing up to exams on time! Hands out detailed outlines and concept lists, and exams are based on those and the material he covers in class: show up, take notes, and you'll do fine!

Dave's a great teacher and fits the schema of a psychology teacher. He's fair, attentitive to student questions, does not pretend to know everything about psychology but definately knows enough to fill a student's head to the brim. He emphasizes what is important to note in his lectures. I highly recommend this teacher.

I took this class as a Flex class over the summer. Great book, just need to stay on top of your schedule, don't procratinate if you take flex. Prof. Shavalia was always available and returned assignements quickly. You get two chances to repeat a test out of five. Tests arn't easy, so study. Prof. Shavalia really cares about your sucess in class.

I really liked prof Shavalia he can be as some people say kinda boring but he often cracked jokes and made psychology very interesting. his tests are kinda hard though and seemed to be mainly off the lectures, the average test grade was a C+. But if take notes and come to class you'll do fine, its def not a blow off class. TAKE HIM!!!!

He is a very good teacher. His tests were a little tricky, but if you pay attention during discussions and take notes you'll do fine. He also gives bonus points for being on time for tests, and sometimes for just showing up! If you're looking for a blow off class, do NOT take him for this class! He means business and it's very beneficial!

The BEST teacher I've had at COD. Everything you need to know for the test he goes over in class. You show up, take notes, and instant good grade. Also give an extra credit paper first day of class and you have half the semester to do it. Always has a review day the day before a test. Ask him anything and he'll explain it. LOVED HIS CLASS.

One of my favorite teachers of all time. Makes all of the topics he discusses relevant to everyday life. Very funny. Also he doesnt give HW, that won me over more than anything. Tests are very easy as long as you pay attn and take notes, which is easy, seeing as the class before the test he will do a full review and tell you anything you dont know.

He was a great great teacher! He would talk a lot in class yes, but if you had the book open when he talked, he explained what you needed to read. Do the study guides, he goes over the concepts sometimes which helps. Go to class and be on time. Do the extra credit paper too, it may seem hard but it's not, don't pass it up. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Dave was an Exellent teacher, he knows what he is talking about. I would not recoment missing a class because you will get a bit lost. He was always soooo helpfull i had him 2 semesters. And he is funny which makes it more interesting . If you pay attention and take notes you will do very Very well in his class. Highly Reccomneded !!!!

You get out of this class what you put into it. Very bare-bones lectures that can be boring, but the material is fascinating. Tests can be hard so you need to do outside studying if you want an A. I was frustrated by his arbitrary grading system (adjusts class difficulty based on how students are doing) but enjoyed his lectures otherwise.

Mr. Shavalia was awesome! He was so knowledgeable about the material and was able to teach it to us overall really easily. Sitting in lectures was a challenge, as he isn't the BEST public speaker, but he's still really nice, easy, and as long as you pay attention and try hard, you'll do great.

Theres a lot to this teacher. His class is hard, i mean i studied my but off and never got above a c. He can be rude and put kids on the spot for little things. but even if he's a slow talker and kind of boring dude; he does have his humor. he likes to make you laugh. Though he does reference alcohol quite a bit, may be a little to much.4.7 out 10

I took this class to learn and that's exactly what I did. Can be a challenging class if you don't come to class or understand the material, so studying before tests was important.
