Probably the worst professor I've had all throughout school. His instructions are not clear, if he believes your class did terribly overall then he will repeat it over and over again. Really unreasonable and you cannot reason with him. He'll make up all sorts of excuses to tell you why your reasoning is not valid and he is right all the time.

Very hard grader in general. Also, simply showing up for class and marking yourself present gains you no participation marks, you have to contribute in each class. Its therefore literally impossible for everyone in the class to get a good participation mark given the size of the classes.. I don't know what he expects.

Definitely not a good professor. He is very rude and inconsiderate. His marking is very inconsistent. He thinks he is a marketing expert, but he just repeats what groups present in the beginning of class, he is not knowledgeable what so ever.

Hes so unclear and a hard marker, dont expected to get 4/4 for contribution grade. He skips a lot of slides during lecture and his quizs (mid-term) is so unexpected

Only a month into this class but it sucks. He talks so much and does not shut up. He rambles and you lose the important info. Hard to have a good discussion in class cause he speaks for so long. Nice guy, and probably helpful for some people, but I really dislike the class. Does too much hand-holding, he thinks we are dumber than we are.

dude is a master in BS. says the same thing 10 times using different words and rambles on about meaningless stuff for 90% of the lecture and then only selects the same 4 students for participation all the time in the 10 minute window he leaves for it. Is rude as well, took over a month to mark quizzes that other profs marked in a week.

Hands down the worst prof I have ever had. His lectures are very hard to follow and he goes on and on about topics that dont relate to the material. I learned more from my TA then I did attending his lectures and if it werent for my TA I would have probably failed the course despite me attending lectures regularly. He is very rude

Pick a different block if you can to avoid his class. The lectures are repetitive and the way he runs participation in class is a joke. Tells students they will never achieve a 4/4 and to not contribute unless its actually important creates such a toxic learning environment. Takes forever to mark and doesnt provide helpful feedback on anything.

Didn't learn a thing from his lectures. He loves to hear himself talk and thinks he's THE man. Constantly tries to scare students and make them feel bad. Before the final he tells the class if you haven't done a case all sem, you'll likely get a 30% on the final. I did one case the entire year and did amazing on the final. Don't let him scare you.

Not a good professor. Very elitist and rude - he thinks he's the man and treats students like little kids. He thinks he is always right. He rambles on for most of the class and a majority of lectures are just fluff. Avoid him if you can.

David Swanston has a terrible habit of rambling on and on about one specific topic and he'll spend most of the class explaining those niche subjects without moving further into the lecture. Whenever you ask questions during class he gives unclear answers and always seems to leave you more confused than you started.

Quite possibly the worst teacher Ive ever had. Makes you feel stupid for asking questions and is far from approachable.

This is the worst first year course you can take. Swanston doesn't know how to teach and rambles on and on about his life. The course load actually isn't that bad although it takes some getting used to. They mark really hard on the midterm so study hard....

His lectures are dry and boring. He rambles on about one specific topic that his little relevance and seldom gets directly to the point.

An incredibly disrespectful and unpleasant prof. Always communicated by talking down to his students, as if he is on top of the world, which was completely unacceptable. Aside from being a subpar prof, (wasn't expecting much anyways), himself as an individual behaved extremely disrespectfully, even through email communication

Course itself was boring but not hard, but this dude spends 30 minutes on one slide in each lecture and spends half the time going off about unrelated topics that nobody cares about.

Terrible..

Spent the first few lectures telling us we were going to fail the class rather than teaching the material. Terrible lecturer; drifts off to irrelevant subjects whilst lecturing. You'll find that the only parts of the course that make sense were not parts that he is in charge of. Go to SI or Prof. Carayannopoulos' lectures.

Lectures were the most boring thing ever, didn't learn anything from them. I was surviving off notes from friends. The only good things about this class is that there are a lot of bonus marks and the IA's care about you.

You know how teachers say "in all my years of teaching... yabayabado"? In all my years of existence he is the worst teacher I've had. DO NOT TAKE unless you are in BBA (Mandatory) or want to transfer to BBA

the joy i get when blud stops yapping is indescribable. his phd must be in yappology, cause this guy can talk forever about some irrelevant topic and somehow not use the same words twice. His lectures are a snore fest and hard to follow even when I try to concentrate. Would recommend avoiding this guy classes. If you have him, good luck.

Yaps a lot but puts lecture content on the exams, posted slides are incomplete and messy.

David Swanston doesn't discuss the lectures well, most students have to go back and reteach the topics or have their TAs teach the topics. With most students failing midterms and finals, it could only mean that the professor isn't a good teacher. The professor isn't understanding when you email him to clarify a question and responds rudely.

He has zero respect for his students and goes out of his way to make this course as hard as possible to make himself feel important. Avoid if you can.

Swanston's lectures were so misleading that everyone stopped coming after the midterm. He spent more time stroking his ego and bragging about his consulting business than actually teaching, only to panic and rush through content when he realized how behind we were. To top it off, BU111 forces you to buy a completely pointless textbook. GOOD LUCK.

Prof is pretty bad at lecuting. He starts every class with a rant about how everyone needs to be 3 weeks ahead in the "readings" (which were never explicitly explained). He also only talks about his consulting business which is very interesting but after the 16th time it gets annoying. He always asks is anyone has questions and then belittles them.

He unmotivates his students and makes the course seem harder than it is! Most of the time spent during lectures is him talking about how we are going to fail the class and how difficult it is. If you can, go to Sofy's lectures instead, never once have I heard her talk down on her students.

This professor is an absolute nightmare. Lectures are chaotic and riddled with typos, making learning impossible. Buzzwords replace real explanations, and emails go unanswered for weeks. Grading is a mystery—no rubric, no feedback, just random marks. Avoid this class unless you enjoy frustration, confusion, and zero clarity.

First thing this prof does on the first day of class is to tell everyone to look to their left and right, then told us only 1/3 of us will pass? What such a great way to start the first day! Lecture is too long for how long he talks for and he wants us to ask questions and engage but then belittles them when they try…

Worst professor I have had. first of all he does not teach properly. he just yaps to much about subjects for way to long. the information in the course is common sense all he does is makes it way harder then it needs to be. he just goes on how you should always be 2 weeks ahead in the course making it like we do not have lives. Does everything to put his students down. He does know how to teach and am surprised how he is a professor.

He has a requirement if you don't pass either the midterm or the final you fail the whole course. I was a high 80s student in high school and failed this course but doing fine in my other courses right now. His midterm and final are so hard and ta's mark hard as well. I understood the material but somehow did horrible on the final and the midterm.

Most of the time he doesn't even talk about the course content, just about how hard the exam is.

Dave doesn't teach. He quite literally won't even change the slides within the lecture because he isn't teaching. He talks about everything but what we should the learning and also puts an immense amount of pressure on us to preform well, but doesn't guide us in resources to do so.

Go to sofys lecture for your own grade. You will learn nothing from dave

TERRIBLE PROF. Tells you that you will fail the course every 10 seconds, nobody liked him, and everybody went to Sofy's. I don't understand how he's a professor here, nor do I understand why he makes so much money. Very obvious that he has ADHD; lectures were all over the place. One time he talked about Charlie Kirk for 20 minutes.

He doesn't teach; he will talk at you about random stuff for the majority of the class. We had one class where we went for a whole hour of him rambling, and not a single slide was changed or reviewed. You will not learn in his class, and he continuously compares non-BBA students to BBA students and basically says they are nowhere as smart.

Lectures are not engaging at all, just yaps for the whole hour, stays on one slide the whole time. If you have him i would recommend switching to sofy

As a don, one of the few consistent things I've heard throughout the years from my students is just how bad David Swanston is. Some of my best advice to BU111 students is to skip his lectures and go to Sophie. David Swanston is the reason I am no longer in the business management option anymore.

A traumatic experience, he talked about his marathons as if he had actually run them. He just took credit for something he got kicked out of. He spends 5 hours on the same slide. Go to Sophy's if u want a chance of passing. He also degrades non-BBA students, telling them they have no chance of doing well. I have no clue how he got this job.

He legit told our class he's happy that the average was a 45% on the midterm. He is genuinely an evil person. I don't know what's wrong with him, but he has serious mental issues. Drop the class or go to Sofy's if you don't want depression.

He uses the majority of the lecture time one like 1-3 slides, always goes off topic, and constantly talks about how hard this class is and how you will fail if you don't do certain things like stay 4 weeks ahead of course material etc etc. He also always talks about he isn't a "teacher" and that you are your own teacher which is total bull.

Read the syllabus, do the bonus mark opportunities. I recommend Sofy's lectures if you want to understand anything in the course. He is so degrading it must be a kink. Don't stress too much that you procrastinate. Stay on top of the course and you should do well.

There is literally ZERO reason to go to lecture with this guy as prof. Half the time is spent on him flexing his 67 side-hustles and how smart he is, and the other half is him fearmongering students and practically saying if you haven't been studying BU111 from the womb, you will fail the course

Wants his students to be 2 weeks ahead to compete with Sofy's class. However, he takes FOREVER to move onto the next slide during lectures, and SUPER FAST LESSONS. Extremely harsh on the non-BBA students (wants them to fail). Always yelling and scaring everyone that they will fail. Talks really fast (hard to understand what he's saying).

Doesn't teach, just reads off slides and takes FOREVER to get through a single slide. Is rude to non BBA students and compares their grades to the BBA sections (who have averages that are just 3% higher). Advises you to just give up if you aren't already doing great in September. If you have to take bu111 as a non BBA just go to Sofy's lectures.

Most likely will be your hardest first-year course. David wasn't a horrendous teacher, but it was hard to feel motivated by him when he constantly dissed on the non-BBA students. He did know his stuff, but he tended to stray into irrelevant content. Highly recommend you visit Sofy's lectures to help with overall course comprehension.

Don't take unless you have to.

Do not take this professor unless you have to. This guy will ramble on about his five businesses and how successful he is in the industry before starting the lesson, and in said lesson, will teach you absolutely nothing. Take Sofy's lectures instead, you will not learn anything of importance in his lectures.

Left my shoe laces untied when I came to his class, hoping to trip and get run over. The course itself is difficult at times (like the midterm), but with a lot of opportunities to make up for it (up to 5 bonus marks). I genuinely do not learn anything in his classes, so I just went to the other prof's.
