This is a real hardcore instructor. Be prepared to sweat when it comes to math. No notes on tests! Lectures are clear to understand but for exams be prepared for anything harder than initially instructed. Just stick in there till the end.
He's an exceleent teacher when it comes to the course material, but he can be very cruel when it comes to needing any kind of special accomadations(i.e- a test enxtension, if you get it you will be penalized...prepare for the worst...thats what I got:(
TOUGH TOUGH TOUGH, although he is a great lecturer, his tests more than make up for that. You may die from laughter in his presentations, but you will certainly die from outrage during and after his tests. Not recommeded.
Hot for bright students, Viglienzoni is straight-forward in his expecations, offers his time generously, and lectures are clear and complete. Tests are difficult, take if confident!
An excellent teacher who really understands math.Keeps his class interesting and moving. I learned more math in his class than in the two previous classes I took.

great teacher, clear expectations, not a class for wimps and whiners
He doesn't help you review the material in class. Its just GO GO GO and you better keep up unless to want to fail bad. The tests were all hard, he puts the hardest from each chapter. Fast paced classes good for advanced hardcore math people.
I took 5C, Linear Alg, Dif Eq... This guy was awsome for all 3! No easy rides, but you do the homework and study you will do well... if you do well you will pwn other classes. Hands down, he is the best instructor I have had. (Currently I have degree in math too!)
Vig is the best math teacher I've ever had! He takes extremely complicated subjects and breaks them down until they're very easy to understand and easy to relate to other math concepts. The exams are CRAZY hard but he's generous with partial credit. Math 6 is linear algebra.
Hardcore math teacher definetly!!!! DO ALL YOUR HOMEWORK, GET A TI-89 or drown!!!!! GET A SOLUTIONS MANUAL. BE PREPARED FOR DIFFICULT AND DIFFERENTLY ASKED TEST QUESTIONS. BE HAPPY YOU MAKE IT OUT OF THERE WITH A C.
By far, the best math teacher I have ever had, he's been here for somewhere between 20-30 years and his wisdom shines a golden reflection of this. Extremely clear and mentally organized, will answer every question and make sure you understand. Take his classes at any opportunity and you will be rewarded with an understandable concept of math.
mr v is very nice and very smart...however his tests are VERY hard. you can't use any notes and you can't write down formula's. it makes it darn near impossible to pass.
He is great at explaining things if you understand his way of thinking; however, if you need math explained to you in a different way (like many do) it is impossible to learn from him. His tests are way too hard and don't cover the material lectures are focused on. Hmwk is HARD and plentiful and not worth enough of your grade. 95% graded on 5 tests

he really wants you to understand it, his passion for teaching is awsome. i hope to get him for 5b and c. test are not that bad jsut as long as you do the homework your fine. and dont be afraid to go during office hrs for help
Awsome! I like math now. He is very clear, explains well and very open if you don't understand. HE WANTS you to know math. Go to his office hours and he will help you a lot. Highly recommend him!!!
Mr. Viglienzoni teaches a host of difficult courses, and doesn't ease the workload on his students. He is very tough and expects most of his students to try hard and learn. However, he is a very dedicated teacher and really facilitates learning. I would highly recommend him to students who really need to learn math.
Jesus. I love math, have never found it difficult whatsoever until this man's class. If you are the type with a need for review before a test, forget about it. He teaches, and then homework questions if you're lucky. ****in Final this week...instead of reviewing for it we reviewed exponent use to help us NEXT semester. Ugh.
Overall he's a great teacher. He really makes sure that you understand what he's talking about, and he has some what of a funny personality. If i was taking math 154, i'd pick him.
One of the best teachers at Cabrillo, and definitely the hardest. His class will destroy you if you slack off even a teeny bit. Hardest tests I've ever taken. Be prepared to live in the mlc. I am really looking forward to taking Calculus from him, but am mentally preparing for it like I would a fist fight. Still, he's the best.
Dave is nice and funny but his tests are really hard and you don't get to use notes or anything to help.
I sat in the front of the class everyday and went to the math lab after class. I was in the MTWTH. I really tried to the best of my ability but I had the worst time understanding what Viglienzoni what referring to and used poor analogies that were more confusing then helpful. When I went to his office hours it was equally as disastrous. I dropped i
Oh my gosh, I hate math. Never understood a word of it. Ive taken math 152 three times, and finally passed, and Mr. V's class was amazing. Got nineties on all my test, he makes it easy to understand--but you absolutely cannot slack off.
I love Dave. The first week I really didn't like him but once you get used to his teaching style and silly examples it makes math easy! Not an easy A, go to his office hours and ask him questions because he's really helpful. Definitely important to show up to class everyday. He talks a lot about how statistics is used in the real world :-)
It's nice to see from the comments that Dave's still around and hasn't changed since I had him for statistics back in 1985 (I think). If you think he's too tough, consider this: I transferred to Cal Poly SLO, where I got my MS in math, and I found that there were a lot of Dave's clones teaching math. Take Dave as a rehearsal; he'll get you ready
This professor was very hard.. It was my only C in my entire college career.
Still convinced Dave is the best math teacher ever. Knows everything and has been doing it for DECADES! He can explain anything to make it "common sense". Not big on number crunching or "idiot boxes" but on math concepts and ideas. The BIG PICTURE as he says. I learned to like math with him, but most importantly understood WHY things worked DO HW!!
This was a difficult and rewarding math class. I am glad to done well because it took alot of work to get it! So be prepared for working hard, doing tons of homework and going to class everyday five minutes early. dave is the master math man.cheers.
i took math 4 and hes good if you do your part (put in the time and do the homework) hes vary helpful and clear and not boring. tests are challenging not unreasonable. if you want to really know the math hes the guy. if this is the last math class you need then maybe hes not for you. he really shows you where your going. i would take him again.
great teacher. can actually make math kinda interesting. If you do the homework you will do good (homework is much harder than the tests). Have to stay up on the work though
One of the best math teachers out there. Dave supports his students throughout the semester; I don't know any other teacher that has 26 hours in his office a week! You can barge in on him anytime and he's patient and clearly explains concepts. If you want to be successful in his class, you must be diligent about doing all the homework! Do it daily!
Vigle's is the man. All out, gotta take this professor if you want to really get to know what you're learning. Go in for office hours and he'll keep you on track if you're falling behind in anything. Funny and wise dude. Take this class!
the best teacher I have ever had, not only in math! He is all about the intuition behind math jabber. He will explain stuff crystal clear so that you actually understand the material and you have a sense of what the concepts are. If your getting into calc, take him!! u'll be hooked

Passionate teacher who makes math RELATABLE! I am not necessarily a math person, but he's made many math majors out of his students. Great guy, very understanding, funny, easygoing, smart and approachable. Very good teacher, easy to understand.
He explains concepts in statistics so clearly, and is really supportive as well. You DO need to attend class often because he doesn't rely on the book for much other than homework problems. He's a funny guy also!
Dave is an outstanding teacher! I've taken him twice and never been disappointed. His lectures are engaging and very clear. Mathematics is amazing with Dave! I really enjoy his teaching style and enthusiasm for mathematics. Beware of his exams! There is no room for slacking. All of his exams require you to give yourself to the math.
Vig is an extremely nice guy, who does a great job or teaching the material. However, his tests are unfairly hard. I am a pretty dedicated math student who has never gotten anything but A's and attended MESA 8 hours a week in addition to the work shops. Yet I still got a C. He will present you with problems on the test 10X harder than the homework.
Dave is a really funny, nice guy however his teaching style did not work for me. Math is my weakest subject and Dave likes to cover a lot of material as fast as he can and his tests are extremely difficult. Being someone who needs time to understand one section of a chapter let alone two or three this just wasn't my class.
Very interesting, in a funny and cool way. You will probably find him annoying, then awesome. He will grow on you. He loves math, and he makes it clear, simple and sometimes even a little bit fun!
He is very helpfull, & entertaining. 90% is math problems on the board
DAVE!!!!!!!!!!! This dude is awesome! He love math, and is funny and fun to listen too! He is the best math teacher at Cabrillo!
Dave is the best math teacher hands down. He is very funny in class trying to crack lame math jokes. I love math and he seems to love teaching it. Very recommended. DO NOT SLACK IN HIS CLASS. you will suffer gretly if you do.
I would recommend Dave for anyone who struggles with math. He is very intelligent and has a great sense of humor. He will always take time to answer questions and presents the material in a logical, easy to follow manner. Make sure to do the hw because I found that the level of effort put into the hw is definitely reflected on test grades.
Great teacher. Explains things clearly, funny, and shows you why equation work instead of just telling you that they do. His tests can be hard but doing the homework prepares you well for them.
Dave is a wonderful teacher. He's super-smart, very clear, and grades very fairly. Yes, his tests are pretty challenging, this isn't an easy A class, but I've found the challenge extraordinarily rewarding. His nerdy math jokes will become a source of great entertainment, and he's just a tried and true good professor. I'd highly recommend!
Dave is just awesome. Such a passionate and dedicated math-lover. He didn't miss ONE single class this semester and always grades tests in a very reasonable amount of time. Keep up on the homework, there's a lot of it, but he's always willing to help, and just has a hilarious personality that's impossible not to like. Best math teacher at Cabrillo!
Dave is by far the best math teacher I've ever had and just might be my favorite teacher of all time. This being said, I've failed his class twice (two different classes). He is not easy, but I guess that just means I get to have him again. :)
Great Teacher. Very clear and helpful. Tests are harder and just a little sideways from what you have done in the homework. If you are not starting out to be in the top five at the end of the class you will not pass. Do not get behind. Got to office hours right away. Good luck. No reference or cheat sheets for exams.
Dave is a rose among turds. His classes are filled with a level of mathematics knowledge I've yet to see in another professor. He makes math fun and interesting with his quirky and humorous teaching style. Tests are brutal, but doable with effort. If you get the chance, take a class with him. It's no less than a treat.
I wish someone would have warned me.This teacher gave no test prep,or study guides.Does not explain things well, and reviews way to fast.Scribbles on the board.I had to ask if what he wrote was a 4 or a y,other students told me they wanted to ask him the same thing.I hoped the class would get better,it didnt
He's a great lecturer, but he moves too fast for me. While I'm trying to take something in, he has already moved on to the next thing. The tests were also a step beyond my understanding. I took 5B with a different teacher this semester and got through relatively easily. I wouldn't recommend Dave to anyone who needs time to fully absorb.
Dave is GREAT, best math teacher at cabrillo! He is a really funny dude that takes a week or two to get used to, but once you understand his humor, and his personality you will love him! He is really cool, great teacher, and smarter than the book! Take him at any cost if you want to know MATH!
Dave is a solid math teacher. He's been teaching for decades yet still has an excitement when explaining concepts that I'm sure he's done many times over. The class is not easy, but he is very fair when it comes to expectations and grading.
I already passed this class in hs but decided to take again. His homework's didn't correlate to his tests at all and neither did the book sections. He didn't even teach the unit circle and used confusing analogies. I understood the material but that wasn't reflecting on tests. I have a 3.8 after dropping. HE HAS A 16% PASS RATE. wish I knew before.
I love math and I'm pretty decent at it, but this class in intense. Stay on top of the homework, it piles up really quickly! My only real complaint is the homework load, Dave assigns 50 problems when 25 of varying difficulty will do to comprehend the material.
Worst teacher I ever had. Math is my favorite subject. His lectures were scattered and disorganized and he only went over simple problems in class (while his tests were more difficult). He hand wrote his tests when the assignments were from the textbook. No study guides or quizzes, though his tests were hand written and not helpful.

Teacher was very nice and always available for help. Yes there is homework, but it's helpful to learn material. Dave only sees HW to see how much effort you put into the class. He explains well, but if you don't do homework you will do an average C.
I have never had a teacher this bad, the homework was just busy work. making you do 50+ problems a nigh drains you completely. The homework was out of the book while his lectures and tests were off the top of his head. His test are difficult. the problems that he does on the board and in homework are easy, but when it comes to the test, surprise!
He knows the material extremely well, but is completely unreasonable on his exams. If you don't study, you will fail. If you do, you can still fail. His exams are completely removed from the level of the book and his lectures. He doesn't give enough time for the exams. I would not recommend him at all. He will kill any love for math you may have.
He is good at explaining concepts and things, but his test material is always surprising. If you don't study your butt off you will most likely fail.
Dave is an amazing teacher. He is one of the best lecturers I've ever had. His tests are brutal, but if you put forth the effort, an A isn't impossible. I got one! This guy is is always at Cabrillo, and available to clarify any confusion you have. Overall Dave is a helpful and great teacher!! He is the reason i understand the first bit of Calculus.
I've always gotten A's in MathCalc 1A and have loved math. Homework is extremely long, tests are graded harshly. On our first exam 60% of the class got lower than a C grade. He doesn't give enough time on exams. He calls them "exams" I call them exterminations.
I wanted to like this class, because he's really funny. But somehow I was still so bored! He used the chalkboard and spends every class going through examples - and never finishes them! If you don't 100% know all kinds of basic derivatives already, don't take this class. Review or take another; hard to catch up. And wayyy too much homework.
Dave is one of the best, if not the best math teacher at Cabrillo. He is an amazing lecturer, very clear and goes really deep and theoretical. He is a gnarly tester so know your material well, but if you do all the homework and ask questions in class, there's no reason not to get an A.
Truly, a gifted lecturer; if I could have taken every math course under "Vig", I would give my left leg for it. Hiss exam standards are exceptionally high, but meeting those standards means a fundamental and a universally applicable understanding of the material. He is a legend not to miss.
I should have gone to this website before choosing this class. Basically if you take this class as a review before 152 and you are very familiar with the material that's being taught you are in the clear, but if you need extra help I wouldn't recommend this teacher for he'll explain his examples but when you get to the tests its foreign.
Dave truly is an amazing teacher. I am glad to have had him in my final semester at Cabrillo!
Dave was one of the toughest teachers I ever had. I have little evidence to back this, but I think he retroactively weights test questions based on how well the class does on them, meaning how well he taught it. I consider it an extremely fair way to grade tests as I believe him honest. He makes you work for your grade, HARD. A great teacher!
He's awesome!!!
He's a great professor and knows his stuff. Lots of homework and the tests are tough. Lots of people complain that his tests weren't organized around the textbook, but real life isn't and that's why I took the class.
This guy is one of the best teachers I have ever had! His exams match up with his lectures! You could literally study his lecture and have all the tools you need to an A. He breaks down the math so well and points out common misconceptions beautifully. He is my hero!
Enthusiastic and mathematically brilliant, he makes it look easy and explains concepts well. Expects hard work, gives tough tests and really cares about your thinking and process. Leaves specific and helpful feedback on tests.
Dave is magic with numbers. I can't imagine a professor so well versed as he, however, he is a pusher. STUDY for the exams, they make up the vast majority (entirety) of your grade and are meant to exercise your skills. If you want to love math, he makes it easy to. If you want to understand math, he's your guy. If you want an easy A... Don't.
Vig is a teacher who rambles too much during his lecture, as he tends to go off on tangents unrelated to materials. This coupled with his insanely fast pace and disorganization spells disaster for a 5C student avoid him.
Good teacher. Pretty hard class.
I don't connect with his teaching style, nor do I feel his tests examine critical thinking, but I won't come on here and say he's a bad teacher. His teaching style is old fashioned, the skill set he reinforces is outdated, but he will help you become a better thinker and that's worth something. Sadly all his students just memorize old exams to pass
Great teacher and great lectures, but be ready to put in a lot of work if you want better than a C. He'll teach you the material, but the fact is that there is a lot of it and it isn't easy.
Dave is a pretty good teacher. The class itself was quite hard and sometimes Dave's lectures can be a bit confusing but he is always willing to help you and work through a problem with you if you're confused. He also likes to make lots of jokes while lecturing which is fun. You should know, though, he doesn't give study guides.
I have conflicted feelings about Dave. He is very old-fashioned in the way that he teaches things and that did not work for me. He does not allow cheat sheets and does not give practice exams/review material. His tests force you to do sequential problems in the way that he taught them and no alternative ways. I would not take again.
Professor Viglienzoni has been the best math teacher that I've had, even though it was a difficult class. I greatly respect his intense knowledge of the material that he teaches, and his enthusiasm for the curriculum is unparalleled. I greatly recommend him for Calculus!
