He is a great instructor. If you are a serious student he is awesome, if you are a child dont take him. He likes his students to learn instead of dealing with immature distractions. I love him, he is great.

Whittlesey only teaches prep math, but he does it better than anyone else at East Campus. Willing to stay after class to help. Don't take him if you want to goof off or miss classes. Pay attention and you will learn so much. AWESOME!!

I returned to college after 25 years. I received C s and D s in high school algebra. Prof. W. shared his enthusiasm for learning and helps those who wish to achieve succeed! He will ALWAYS help and encourage and makes everything in algebra CLEAR. I loved his class!

I didn't have much desire to take this class because I thought I already knew a lot. I'll give him credit though, Prof W. taught me some stuff about math that I have never seen before that made things much easier. I liked his quotes and sample state test problems that he wrote on the board.

Math isn't my favorite thing but Proffessor Whittlesey made class enjoyable. Something I never thought could be true about math. He explains everything so that you can understand and makes it look so easy. I learned more in his class then I did in all my high school math classes which I got C's and D's in. Take him if you can. Theis teacher is very organized and clear about everything her does. He allows you to take tests and quizzes home to do them. He will he take his time untill every one understands. He gives you 10 mintue breaks in the middle of class and sometimes he lets you get out early. Great Teacher

I'm not a big fan of math, but it seemed like I learned something new every day. Even though he explains things a lot clearer than any math teacher i ever had before, you do have to pay attention in his class. He made the class fun, not every time, but mostly and is willing to stay after class is over to help you if you need it. He's the best!!!

Professor Whittlesey is one of the best teachers. He will keep explaining a math problem until you get it. He doesn't make you feel stupid for asking questions like some teachers do. He is caring and compassionate towards his students. He makes every effort to see you succeed. I will miss him.

Before Mr. Whittlesey's class I used to hate math. He showed us its really not bad because of the way he explains things so clear. He uses patterns and definitions a lot! I passed the state test on the first try because I paid attention in class and got help from him. He's really patient too. If I can pass, anyone can. I feel ready for MAT1033!

Awesome Guy! Not only did he have his own style of teaching that helped a lot, but he totally relates to the class and the stress other teachers puts on us. He rarely uses the book and focuses more on preparing you for the State Test. I passed it the first time thanks to him. Very clear and funny too.

I don't know how Professor W can be a "jerk" and "give" you a grade. He clearly states that if you're borderline between grades, depending upon how attentive in class you were, how well your notebook is organized, and the homework you did, he will bump your grade up, or down. He's a wonderful prof and will explain 12 times if needed! Take him!

EXCELLENT professor. The topic of math, is made a lot more interesting by the way he explains concepts and other difficult topics to grasp. DEFINATELY DO RECOMEND this professor.

R u kidding me! this professor is the best. he is funny, smart, all of his test are take home, you are alowed 2 use ur notes on the quzzes. He is a very neat prof, he likes to make everything vissual by using different colors, and it helps to understand, friendly.. He is a great professor and i recommend him to everyone. trust me on this one!!!

He was a good teacher, funny and teached his own way more than going by the book. But it seems like things have changed some since these comments were put up here about him. He was not as willing as everyone says to go back over problems. Don't get me wrong, he was a nice guy. Just didnt seem as eager to help as everyone makes him out to be.

he started the first day of class announcing his extreme dislike of math...which in the end made him the best math teacher ive ever had. i hated math, couldnt get it, retain it at all. he made it easy and interesting, something i never thought math could possibly be! :)

He's a very nice/funny guy. It's up to you whether you go to class or not and he doesn't assign any homework, which, depending on how good you are at math could either make you or break you. The best thing about him though is that his lectures are very clear and he will personally tutor you in the SPA if you are not getting it.

He probably the best teacher I've had. Math is not my forte and I'm coming out of this class understanding the material. He doesn't require attendance and if you try you will pass. He gives up to 25 EC points for the state exam review which is the key to passing the exam so do it. He has stayed after every class with me when I have stupid questions

You can tell he cares about what he does. He will not move on until everyone understands the material. Tests are take home. Really prepares you for the state exam and the classes that follow. If you have trouble with math, TAKE HIM!!!

A really awesome teacher. He is extremely fair and willing to help. Though keep in mind he wont stand over you with a whip if you're not willing to help yourself than you cant blame him for your short commings. Do the practice webct tests and go to the SPA and you will do fine! Wish I could take him next semester.

If you really want to learn Pre-Algebra the right way, then take Prof. Whittlesey. Very clear at explaining things, take home tests so you learn more, and never makes you feel bad for asking a weird question. Learned more from him then I ever did in Jr. High or High School! Easy class. He's definitely a pushover teacher. Doesn't care about attendance and give you take home tests. Gives you one project which takes 5 minutes to do and doesn't really involve math. Gives you alot of chances for extra points and definitely wants all his students to pass.

Excellent teacher. He really breaks it down so that you can understand. Tests are take home. Quizes are open book. He post practice for the state exam to your atlas account. He tells you what is important and pertinent, does not teach excessive garbage. He works with you.He is also very good at erasing the board. He does not make you feel stupid.

Professor Whitttlesey is very good at what he does. He is with out a doubt the best teacher I have ever had. Just show up for class and put forth the effort and the rest will fall in place.

He is amazing, clear, and helpful. He stays after class to answer any questions may you have. Tests are take home & you have a week to do them. The quizzes are open notes, and you have until a week before the state test to turn in all your labs. The only weird part is that you have to memorize definitions for the tests/quizzes/final.

He's a good teacher as long as you make sure sure to pay attention in class. Definitely take notes, at least on the definitions HE gives you if not on anything else. :)

Best Math teacher I have ever had. You must take him. All exams are take home, and you can use your notes on the quizzes. Attendance isn't mandatory but you will do better off if you go to his class, since the tests are easy and he goes by HIS notes, NOT the books. If you take notes and copy everything he writes on the board you will get an A!

This was my favorite class for fall term 2009. I understood everything he said, he makes sure everyone is on track at all times. He really dislikes profanity and kids who think they are in "13th grade." Awesome Professor , I only wish I could take him for my next class for spring term, but he teaches on days that I will not be available. A++

We're in week 3 and we are still in Ch. 1, I'm scared about this one, know Prime Factorization and math definitions or you will fail this class, spends way too much time cleaning board, definately OCD with it. Ex Marine, wonderful personality, attend MathLab and get your own help & you should have no problem passing.

My all time favorite teacher. He is super helpful and makes you understand even the hardest math problem. When I first entered his class, I hated math with a passion and after having him, I enjoyed it because i understood what was going on. He is really organized and I would definitely recommend him to other students.

He is real patient and if some of the class get it, he takes time to go back and explain it in another way just so we can all get it. He is very patient, flexible and detailed. He expects you to try, but will be there to help you even if it means taking his own time to do it. He will explain how to do something to you in however many different ways he has to, to make sure everyone understands it. He's a great teacher you just have to listen to his lectures and pay attention no matter how boring! He doesn't clariy or remind you to do homework he just marks off in your protfolio if it's not complete... He makes his test hard. He teaches things in a diffrent way and he has OCD about erasing the board.

He's a bit arrogant but I can appreciate him more now that I'm in MAT1033. He uses color markers & takes you step by step through the process which I've come to miss. He awards tons of bonus points for his lack of preparedness.

Anyone who says he is not a good prof. is WRONG! I have took this prof. for 0018, 0028, and now 1033 and he is awesome. He actually teaches unlike some prof. Take home tests (they can be difficult-don't wait until the last minute), some quizzes in class, no HW, crystal clear when he is teaching. If you don't understand, ask and he's happy to help. Study for your final! He makes it worth 300 points on 1000 point scale. I've always been terrible at math and I know way more than I ever did. Apply yourself!

I absolutely LOVED this professor! I've always struggled with math, but the way he explains everything so casually made it so much easier. He is extremely sarcastic, blunt, and to the point, which is why I loved his class! He does expect students to speak up and participate. He doesn't assign HW but you need to study for the final.

Best math professor I ever had, actually made algebra completely understandable and easy to absorb. Honestly, he is the definition of what a teacher should be. When signing up for math courses I always check to see if he teaches any, even though he may not. 10/10 would like him as a teacher again.

He is very helpful but, what's the point? He gave us our grade in the class literally the class before the final exam. The final exam study guide was just a list of chapters we went over the entire semester. Basically, that meant study every single thing we ever learned. Its very frustrating to know where you stand in a class the last day of class.

This class was hard but it wasn't the profs fault. It was a 6 week class. He was good at explaining things and used lots of colored markers . I struggled in this same class last semester. Whittlesey made it easy to understand and I did well except for the final. He told us what would be on it, but it was still difficult. I should of studied more.

I took Whittlesey for all my math classes at Valencia. He is an awesome professor. He wants to see you pass and does everything he can to help you do that. With that being said you do have to do the work. All the tests but the final are take home! He doesn't require you to do homework but he does give extra credit if you do. I would take he again!

Whittlesey is a very good prof overall. He works problems out of the book that are a lot like the ones in the mandatory homework. I didn't like the My Mathlab part that much, but tests were fair. He told us almost exactly what would be on the final and that helped me to study. Oh, you get bonus points sometimes too. I would take him again!

He's very wise and knows what he's talking about. He gives Extra Credit opportunity for almost everything. He gives you all the homework through mymathlab and only assigns take home quizzes. If you pay attention it's an easy A. He goes over everything he explains and if you catch an error in his class you get extra credit. Would take again 100%

Willing to work with you and more than fair grader. Just apply yourself in class and get an A. I enjoyed the class and if you dont get a good grade in this class you didn't even try/apply yourself. There are plenty of bonus points and take home tests and class can be quite enjoyable. Professor Whittlesey wants you to learn and pass the class.

I never had a prof who explains math better then Prof W. He wants everyone to pass and gives many chances to get extra credit. I like that he uses different colored markers for each step. He has the best handwriting and is really good at drawing on the board. BTW his voice is not a monotone and he can be heard by all. Would take him again!

I really like Professor Whittlesey and I have never even spoken one word to him. I've learned a lot in his class and he has made math much easier for me. Anybody complaining about him is probably mad that they didn't show up to class and ended up failing. If you go to class, do homework and study you're golden. & the chapter tests are take home!!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Professor Whittlesey made this class my most enjoyable math class far and away. His assignments are clear cut, and easy to do, and the tests are challenging, yet forgiving. By far the most generous teacher with additional credit, and gives amazing feedback on tests.

Professor Whittlesey does care a lot about his class and tries his best to be a great professor. He'll be able to explain anything that you don't understand using patterns, just ask him after class.

he gives you take home test... the final is 30% of ur grade so if you make sure you know the stuff you can get a easy A. he is mad cool and super smart at math. if your bad at math, take him, if your good at math, take him lol.

Hands down, the best math teacher in this school! He is funny, intelligent and likes class participation. Easy A if you do the homework and pay attention in class. Explains everything in clear details and does not work you hard. Very respectful and easy to talk to. Take this is you want to actually learn and enjoy doing it!

Take this professor!! I struggle with math so my main goal was to pass this class and he is great at explaining things and doesn't get frustrated when you ask a bunch of questions. For the final though you have to know EVERYTHING to pass the class!

I loved having Professor Whittlesey for College Algebra. I took his class while still duel enrolled in HS (while taking 8 other classes), and he made this class a breeze; and I suck at math. All tests are take home except for the final and homework is online. Half off all test had an online portion where you're allowed several attempts. Easy A!

He is a great professor! I took him for College Algebra, he works at a steady pace and makes sure everyone understands what they are doing. All tests are take home and he gives lots of opportunity for bonus points. 10/10 recommend taking him for as many classes as you can!!

He may come off as abrasive but he teaches so that you learn the material. If you are lazy and not willing to put in work, then he is not for you. All tests are take home except the final. Prof. Whittlesey wants his students to pass his class. All his tests are take home so you literally have the ability to use any resource around you to get a 100% on the teat but you have to work for it. Come exam time, he wants you to prove that you know how to do the work, given his tests were take home. Overall pretty straight forward class!

Mr. W is great! I'm an older student who doesn't have lots of extra time. I appreciate his teaching style, use of colors, and many examples of how to do problems. He's a tough, but fair test grader and the tests are take home. He even loaned me the book because I didn't have financial aid. I failed with a different prof but not with him!

I have never been good at math but he broke things down into a simple form that I was able to comprehend. The online homework is easy and it is such a useful tool. Professor W and the online portion go very well with each other. I love that he has a system for missing class-3 free passes. He is very organized and I appreciate his use of colors.

Tests are take home and/or online. He goes over what appears on the finals. Showing work on tests is very important!! Extra credit opportunities. No book needed.

Prof Whittlesey is an amazing math teacher, honestly one of the best I've ever had in all of my schooling. He teaches everything step by step and uses different colors to denote different steps in solving a problem. If you come to class and pay attention you'll pass with no problem. If you're lazy and don't bother showing up, you have no chance.

Prof. Whittlesey allows you to take test homes. HW isnt an Excessive amount, code needed. He carefully explains the material so that its clearly understood. There is no Midterm and the final is divided in 2 parts. He gives a study guide for the final. Extra credit is available. He gives you the tools to succeed. Easy class if you put in the work.

He's not very conversational, and he mostly just lectures. He teaches pretty well, and allows you take tests home. I passed his class so he's pretty good.

Professor Whittlesey is excellent. He explains clearly what is going to be on the assessments and homework, and really does a great job outlining his grading criteria. He isn't the best at returning emails, but he is a great professor that cares about his students and makes math really easy to understand.

You have to do the assignments and tests online, take notes and attend class and his lectures in order to pass. He allows re-takes for his online exams. He is willing to explain things very smoothly and makes his syllabus very clear. Overall, a very well respected professor who knows his job and what he's teaching to his students.

First time Ive taken math in years and was very nervous but his lectures were broken down so well and made so easy to understand. Hes extremely patient and very respectable. Plenty of extra credit was given and the homework is fairly manageable. Did not require textbook itself. Highly recommend for anyone taking College Mathematics.

Very cool guy, laid back and funny. Although, his lectures can be long and boring if you're already good at math. Super easy course load, his classes were lectures and homework was all online. He was a great and funny teacher. He is also very helpful and would help you after class if you still didn't understand something. His lectures were long but were pretty good and he taught well. He made the class entertaining sometimes too which was really nice!

If you do everything you will pass. After 3 missed assignments it will be -20, and it will bring your grade down bad. Uses mathlab and he does not make this clear. If you miss assignments because of this he does not let you retake. If you miss the fact that all work is on mathlab you won't pass. Cool dude, didn't teach. Passable with minimal effort

Mostly all done on Math lab. He is very understanding and helpful. Very strict on attendance and You will fail If you do not do a few of his attendance requirement's. Math is hard for me. So i really had to work hard. Over all he is a good professor.

Dr. Whittlesey has lots of opportunities for extra credit. He has weekly attendance that's shown by doing assignments in class each week. Beware that his homework assignments aren't taken in late. His communication and expectations were clear, and overall his lecture content was very video heavy but good. You have multiple tries for tests too.

As a professor, he's great. Not very responsive as he mentions he's a tech dinosaur but is understanding. You have a few mathlab assignments a week and a few module tests. If you take notes on the homework and write examples, the 15 question tests are easy. Overall if you do your work, and try, its an A!

He is amazing as a professor and human. He truly cares about his students and their success. He uses Mathlab for assignments and quizzes too! It is mostly self taught, but if you ever need help, he is more than willing. He has changed my perspective on math as a whole. Take him, you wont regret it!!!

I took him online his class wasnt the hardest in the world if you can time manage and keep track of things. I wouldnt recommend for people who like tk procrastinatie It s important to remember that he usually gives 2-3 assignments every week and 4 tests. Note: if you score lower than a 50 precent on the final you will automatically fail the course.

He is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. The course is clear with what is needed to pass and homework and tests are on Mathlab. You can watch videos or read the text to understand topics. He is very kind and cares about his students. I would take him every math class I could. 11/10 professor and class

I took this class online, assignments are easy if you study and practice with examples and videos provided in Mathlab. There are tests at the end of each chapter except the last one and he gives you 3 opportunities and enough time to take the test. There are homework's every week and he also provides extra credit.

Overall easy class if you can keep up with due dates. Wasn't a fan on how his modules were set up. He makes 1 reminder page that tells you when everything for the module is due, making it very easy to miss assignments. The work itself is easy, he gives helpful videos. Final is online and is timed. Gives bonus points at end of semester if earned.

GREAT PROFESSOR!! All you have to do to pass this class is the homework that he gives every other week and exams once a month! It is impossible to fail this class. TAKE HIM

You can't be lazy in this course. If you pay close attention to the examples, you will not fail. He will respond if you do not understand the videos will definitely help you. I took this course online and I know if I would have had him in person, I would have gotten an A. This is a great Professor and a wonderful person inside and out.

This course is what you make of it. I kept up to date with the assignments (which took up a chunk of my time) and maintained a high A. Professor Whittlesey is nice and straightforward. I had some technical difficulties with the final exam and he was very kind about it. No honorlock. I highly encourage you to take his class!

Highly recommend! All the assignments are on MyMathLab, and what I really loved about him was that he goes back into the tests after they were auto-graded and give students partial credit for almost correct answers. It took my final exam from a 75% to an 87% and let me keep an A in the class. Plus other extra point opportunities too

Very caring professor! Takes time to review students' auto-graded tests to ensure they're accurately graded. Gives a timeline of due dates so you know what to expect- no surprises, no confusion. Communicates. Organized. Very supportive. Watch vids (Burger vids are awesome). Tests are timed- main challenge. Homework is manageable. Excellent course!

Professor Whittlesey is an organized, caring instructor. The course is math-heavy but manageable with dedication. Utilize resources like Unstuck ai and the free textbook to succeed. Attendance is mandatory, so stay engaged. Overall, a solid class.

Dave is a good professor and his class has been fairly easy. All you need to do is complete the assignments on Pearson on time in order to pass.Although some cons were that he puts in grades last minute.The semester is over in 2 days and their has yet to be anything graded.Make sure to PRINT the course timeline.Assignments will not show in canvas.

He doesn't transfer grades from MathLab to canvas, so you will have to check your grades on MathLab since all of the work is on there. There are videos made by other people put on canvas that you will have to watch to understand the material.

It's an easy class, do your work, and you'll pass with an A. An easy going professor.
