A little impatient and doesn't always explain things well.
Challenging, but a good teacher
Nobody loves to hear themself talk more than Dr. Malik. Unfortunately, he is hard to understand and doesn't clarify things very well. He always acts inconvenienced when asked a question and he is also a pretty picky grader.

Impatient, picky, and hard to understand. Even he seems bored during lectures. Seem inconvenienced when you ask clarifying questions. Avoid his classes if possible - any other teacher will do.
He is the perfect reason why you should buy a book and learn on your own. He is begging to be fired.
He speaks in arabic...even our math teacher can't speak in english. If you want to arabic math dr. malik is the one for you....you understand.
He goes way too fast, doesnt explain material at all. Talks way too much and doesnt listen to questions. If you want to take a class where you plan on teaching yourself, then hes your guy because the material is not too bad.
Malik can not speak English very well. He talks to the board a lot and doesn't explain himself at all. He gets confused when you ask him questions. He actually grades pretty easy; its all based on a point system, but you have to teach yourself everything. Not recommended at all.
Malik just writes on the board as fast as humanly possible, turns around, and says "You understand?" Of course all he gets in blank stares, but he keeps going on anyway. He moves way too quickly, and I am only in App Math. We have done 3 chapters in 3 weeks. Dont take Malik.

I dreaded every day of his class. He is very impatient. He would be lost without his precious book. You might as well just read the book instead of take his class. He is also easily confused: if the answer is not in the book then he will skip it and move on. Any other teacher will do.
Don't take him ok. What more do I have to say. He's incoherent. He lacks a command of english. He boring. I feel asleep in class 6 times. I Don't fall asleep in classes! Quite frankly he annoyed the heck out of me. I went to ask questions during offie hours and all i got were pompus response
DONT TAKE HIM!! His class was boring and he was hard to understand. He speaks by asking questions, not making statements. I went in to get help and he gave me answers, not help. His explanations are weak and I dread the class everyday!
If you want to sit in class, watch a teacher and write on the board for an hour take him. No one evr understands what he is talking about. Worked on a take home test once for four hours and failed it. BACK AWAY FROM THIS CLASS!!!!QUICKLY!

Malik is an absolute idiot. All he does is write on the board with his back turned to the class the entire time. He will always ask questions such as "You follow dis?" and he is responded with blank stares. He is unclear, but his take home tests are easy if you go to math help labs. They are exactly like the tests he gives. I didn't learn anything.
When you get beyond the language barrier, he's a good teacher. Taking notes aren't necessary. He hands out a study guide before the test, which needs to be completed and turned in. Gives plenty of extra points. Tests are not hard. Takes roll. Willing to help. Easy A. Take him.
Dont listen to what people have said about Malik. This class (applied math) honestly wouldnt have been so bad if there wouldnt have so many ignorant idiots in the class. If you do your work (which is an extreme MINIMAL amount), turn in your study guides (which he gives you the answers to), you will do fine in this course. MALIK 4 LYFE!
Malik is an easy A, but he is a horrible teacher. If you don't get an A, you should question why you're in college. All the prior statements about hw and tests are true. However, he doesn't prepare you for the midterm and final exam that are much more difficult. I wouldn't take him again, but I hear there aren't any decent alternativies either.
Malik is awesome, and the class that I had with him was great. The class is very easy, and it would be easy not to learn anything but if you just do the minimal work that he assigns then you will learn something. Malik also provides many many helpful examples on the board. The only way the class would have been better is if more people cared.
What's really distracting is the jerks in the back of the room making fun of him for not being a native English-speaker. He lectures over what we need to do, assigns a review before each short, easy test and that's it. The class was fine for me, but I couldn't recommend it because it's annoying for people to not take it seriously.
I think Malik is a great teacher. He's superly duperly easy and will help you out if you need it. He explains things well even if he has an accent. And he has a sense of humor. I really recommend you to take him.
Fun class
What can I say that hasn't already been said. If you need the class then you should be able to sneak by with at least a B. If you don't need the class then DO NOT take it. Good lord, if I had a dime for every time he said 'Do you see dis?' I could have my four years paid off already.
Expects that u know calc b4 walking in. Goes on rants and writes all over the board w/o explaining. Lectures whole time, ppl walk out eventually. Makes mistakes on review sheets. Expects u can do the test in 10 mins like he can. However, had 1 take home test, 3 used the book, takes tests problems STRAIGHT off hw, don't have 2 do the hw, and curves.
This class is a piece of cake...go to class, take the tests and you should get an A. If you've had any sort of statistics class in high school this will all be review. Extra credit is worked into the tests and he is a nice guy who genuinely cares about math.
I found Mailk to be one of the most frustrating teachers i have ever had. He doesn't really explain himself and talks as if we know what he's talking about. I would not recommended him!! God he made me hate math more then i already do!
Malik REALLY wants everyone to do well. He puts way too much emphasis on attendance and obnoxiously tries to engage students in his nonsensical lectures, which just drove me insane. But when it comes down to it, he's a really sweet guy and if you talk to him, he'll help your grade. Just don't make a bad first impression or youre boned. EASY TESTS!
Nice guy, good teacher. Moves fast, tough accent to understand. Easy class but assigns a lot of homework problems. I got an A and did nothing though. I'd take it again.
Class was sooooo boring! I almost felt bad for the guy because he thinks he's being funny, but isn't, and has no respect from the students. Do the HW and you'll get an 'A' but I wanted to sleep through every class.
He is a horrible professor and very hard to understand in both language and in his horrible penmanship.
If you've never taken calculus before, he's terrible. The class is geared toward students who've taken AP calculus. He scribbles on the board, says "See this, see this," doesn't wait for your answer and scribbles some more. Helpful one-on-one, but when the class is doing bad as a whole, he makes you take definition quizes and creates a 2nd midterm.
If you can avoid it, DO NOT TAKE HIM!! He is impossible to understand and makes calculus extremely difficult when it is really quite easy.
Easy course, 1st sem easier than 2nd.Tells exactly what is on the exam.Grades all exams out of 30 but there are 36 points possible. The rest is ex. credit.Kinda funny guy in a weird way. Relatively boring class but when is math ever interesting? From what I've heard about other 201 profs I'd def recommend Malik above the others! Good, easy class.
ok, this class is really easy...but class is so frustrating cause he doesn't talk very clearly and he rushes through everything. he writes something on the board then asks stupid questions like, "who is sleeping?" or "who is pretending to pay attention?" I'm sure if the material wasn't so easy, I would have done really bad in this class.
the worst math teacher i have ever had. he is extremely picky about your work. if you skip even a minor step or miss write a symbol or letter or anything u lose a lot of points. Also makes you memorize definitions. if you try to use your own words lose more points. he is also hard to understand and doesnt really help. DO NOT take him
If you have had calc. before this class isn't bad. I wouldn't recommend it for people who haven't had any calc. He is hard to understand but you quickly get adjusted. He gives a lot of test but also gives extra credit on every single one. I got over 100 on almost all the test. There are def. easier calc teachers out there though.
RUN FAR AWAY. I guarantee that you will hate this class minus the bonds you form with those sitting around you over how ridiculous of a teacher he is. If you've had calc before, you can get an A. If you haven't, be prepared for a lot of work.
Malik is a good teacher but he doesn't speak english very well. He is hard to understand at times, but if you ask him to repeat things he will gladly do it. The tests were easy as pie because he puts last years exams online and usually uses half of those questions anyways. We only turned in homework one time. I got an A in the class.
IF YOU HAVE HAD AP CALC OR PRE CALC: this class is a joke. I took him for calc I and II and both semesters it was my highest A. Do the homework and you're golden, i still dont understand half the concepts for calc II and i got over 100% on three of the four tests. just do the homework
Okay, I honestly don't know how to rate him. This is actually a hard class for such an "easy" subject. He means well with his teaching methods, but if you don't pay attention, you REALLY have to go back and teach yourself or have someone who knows that they're doing show you. Crap.... LOOK AT PAST TESTS TO STUDY FOR REAL TESTS
I like the class very much. Professor is very helpful and available to help you outside the class. He seems intelligent. I will recommend him very much. Well, math is never an easy subject anyway. Dr. Malik is a good teacher.
Easy class, hard to understand him
He is such a terrible teacher.I'm not too sure if he knows the subject because he just skeets all his information onto the blackboard and doesn't pause for questions. If you do manage to get a question in because he is wrong he doesn't know the right answer.Avoid him at all costs.YOU WILL NEVER GET THIS YOU WILL NEVER GET THIS!!!
HE IS TERRIBLE. I always feel like i need to catch up to the unintelligible gibberish he thinks is english. half the class is always asleep because it is too difficult to follow him all of class. a quote from him: "you see this? you will never get this you will never get this...no matter how hard you try...you will NEVER get this."
Malik! Wow, what a terrible class. If you can get through his accent he can be good in the same way that some bad movies are really enjoyable. "You see dis"...get used to that. Book was mainly used for homework and nothing else. If you really have to take him, have a sense of humor as it is the only thing that makes the class possible...
Darn good guy. Just sit up front so that you can hear and understand what he's saying. He's foreign so sometimes it gets hard to understand what he's saying but he really puts a hard effort into showing his students that he cares. If you have to take applied math, he really is your best bet. Seeing as he wrote the book and all...
I believe Mr Malik is a terrible teacher. He does not speak clearly and sometimes did not even know what he was doing himself. I went into his office for help on a specific problem and he didn't even want to help me. he said "It is in your notes" Yea i know it's in the notes but you're here to help me and clarify any problems i'm having. He Sucks
He's not very easy to understand and the book is poorly written. However, the only thing you need to do to get an A is to read the relevant chapter during class or before if there is a quiz that day. I didn't do the homework once. In fact, I figured out how to do most of the problems DURING the test. The math here belongs in freshman year of HS.
Had him for math 201. I ordered my books and realized he WROTE the textbook. I guess he knows his stuff but hes a very very picky grader and you can hardly understand him, he has a crazy accent. Also says "do you see this" about 25 times a class (honestly). Take with caution.
This teacher is crazily hard, you have to do most of the learning on your own, although he tries to help, it is hard to follow along. His accent is not that bad, if you get use to it, its mainly the way he teaches... he teaches straight from the textbook and he jumps around often. He writes poorly on the board and doesnt go step by step
He tries, he cares, hes dedicated... give the man a break. The only students that do bad, are the ones that laugh in the back of the room. ignorant retards. Ill take him again if I had to A+ professor.
This class was difficult, but not impossible. He expects you to pull proofs out of nowhere. He has tons of office hours and encourages you to come in for help. Hard Grader, but accent was easy to understand.
This class is soooo easy if you have take calculus before. he gives you exactly what is going to be on the tests. If you get a bad grade its your own fault
I was in the back of the classroom. He ignored me when I had questions. When I went to office hours he blew me off. He is not only a horrible teacher but person as well. AVOID HIM! He teaches to a large class and a combination of his accent and how quietly he speaks makes it impossible for you to understand. His handwriting is also awful.
This class is pretty easy honestly, as long as you have had calculus before, if not its going to suck. BUT, on the plus side he gives study guides which are exactly like the test.
Okay, call me crazy, but I really liked Professor Malik. He's got a dorky sense of humor, but I enjoyed it. And his class is so easy! All you have to do is show up and pay attention. And if you're lost during class, the textbook is so easy to read and understand. And it's kind of funny that Malik wrote it.
This professor is terrible. He talks so quiet and at the board so that you can barely hear him. He flies through the book so fast that you can't comprehend the material. The only good thing about him is that he curves the tests a little bit. DO NOT TAKE HIM
I call this class academic suicide. I don't feel that he is very helpful or much of an approachable person. His tests are hard, you're better off finding a different professor. But if you must take him, I advise that you be prepared to teach it to yourself and be familiar with the book (which isn't that great either). He will usually curve test
If you really care about your grades please don`t take him. He is the worst teacher ever and his accent is awful. Calc 1 wasn`t that bad with him but calc 2 is a disaster...Malik doesn`t care about people and his a ****bag to students. He is not helpful at all, so be prepared to teach yourself and be ready to listen his "you see this"
Class was easy just show up and daydream for an hour and a half. Had only 50 homework problems the entire semester and they were from the practice test. He is very easy as long as you can teach yourself the material. Take if you are good at math and don't want to do any work, do not take if you are not good at math.
Here's the deal. Malik is an AWFUL teacher. I had an A in AP and struggled in his class. However, the key is the test review guide. Know it inside and out and you will be just fine! Tests are 85-90% of the review and he curves it 10pts if you try hard. Final was easy previous test Qs. He is forgiving with grades if you visit him in office hours!
Dr. Malik is not always the most clear in class and doesn't always offer the best help when you go in for office hours. However, he loves people that put in effort. Just try your best and your grade will reflect that.
I know his ratings aren't very high, but he is not a bad teacher if you actually want to learn. The assignments will seem unfair and harshly graded, but if you put effort forth, the grade will reflect it in the end (despite what the hw might look like). You will learn in his classes.
Incomprehensible. He wrote the book we used in class and it is just as bad as his lectures.
He is a really nice professor. If you go in to office hours he is helpful and its easy to tell that he cares about his students. He has a good sense of humor and is generally in a good mood. He can be hard to understand sometimes because of his accent so you really have to pay attention. Also do the homework. The class is impossible if you don't.
He isn't a bad professor, but not great either. Lectures are boring and homework is difficult. Tests and final are by far the largest part of your grade. He can seem apathetic, but if you try he really will help any of his students. Not an easy A, but it is attainable if you put forth the effort.
The tests are simple. The quizzes can have notes used and are all multiple choice. Not a lot of homework. He isn't very clear and he goes quite fast. I wouldn't recommend him.
I really love him and his class. Dr. Mailk is very nice! If you want to learn the knowlege and you are smart enough, choose him!!! I asked a lot questions during his offical hours. It is very helpful.
Dr. Malik is wonderful! Math is not my strong suit, but Dr. Malik made me really like it. He's so funny in class and is really nice when you come in during office hours. He appreciates and notices those who work hard. Make sure to sit close to the front so you can hear him, and ask questions. He's definitely my favorite professor so far!
Contrary to what most believe, Dr Malik is a good professor. His quizzes are easy, and so are the tests, he offers bonus point on almost all of them. I went to his office hours a few times, he was extremely helpful. In class, he tells you how to do every problem on the quizzes, just write them down and review them.
If you took Pre-Cal or above, this course should be absolute cake. DO attend class. He zips through the book pretty quick and if you miss, then you might feel it on the tests. He is a really nice guy (He wrote the math book and dedicated it to his daughter. presh.) He does have an accent but you can understand him, no problem. Take him.
simply reading the textbook to class does not constitute as teaching!
his teaching didn't mesh well with me. I found that going to class didnt help my learning of the material at all. You have to teach yourself pretty much.
Writing proofs are hard enough, but Malik doesn't make the concepts clear enough to make the necessary connections. Only good thing was that the book was free and online.
Very difficult class but he tries to help as much as possible. It's hard to pay attention if you don't sit close because he writes small and is hard to hear. Generally an okay class.
I dont know what people are talking about his accent, he talks completely normal. Gives 3 tests and lets you use notes on the 1st one. Take if you want an easy A.
This class is fairly hard, especially because professor Malik teaches it very confusingly. He has an accent which makes it hard to understand and is all over the place when explaining things. He cracks jokes every now and then, and his tests aren't too bad. It's just difficult to learn the material because you can't understand him.
This class was very difficult for me even though I tend to be math-minded. If you do not have a strong calculus background, then I would think very hard about taking this class. As for Dr. Malik, he is always there to help even though student rarely take advantage of him. Go to his office hours and do the homework and you will be fine.
It's not that Dr. Malik isn't smart; he's just a miserable teacher. If you take a class with him (at least this one) expect lectures to be nothing but a public reading of a textbook written entirely by him, rife with errors and unintelligible. Everything he teaches is correct; he's just so bad at teaching it, it might as well be wrong.
His accent is very heavy, but he makes his speech clear enough for perfect understanding if you listen. However, his lecture is very dull, and the grade system is weird.
Dr. Malik is a very intelligent professor. However, the class is disorganized and the grading system is not clear. He grades harshly and doesn't fully explain his expectations. However, he does encourage coming in during office hours. If you take Malik, be prepared to teach yourself. The subject matter in 310 isn't easy, so you will be frustrated.
He is a smart guy, but proofs are hard. He will not tell you how to write them, but seeing as he wrote the book you will use just copy that style and you will be fine. His accent takes a while but it will become like a second language to you. When you take him remember that he is right even when he is wrong so just copy his style.
Assignments are daily but easy and most of the tests are take home. Very respectable teacher and easy A
Really hard to understand. If you go in for office hours he will not help you at all. Math 201 is a pretty easy class, so it's easy to get a good grade, but he assigns a lot of homework that takes a really long time to do. Freaks out if he sees a phone in class. Does not teach the material well, so you end up learning it on your own.
Not a good teacher, but a very possible A or B. Hobbies include: Calling out students that aren't keeping their eyes glued to him at all times; Having a phobia of anything technology that isn't his; Asking every five minutes if anyone has questions, and refusing to answer the question when it is asked. Also prepare for 8 hours of homework.
There are definitely things about Malik's style that I'm not a big fan of. But I will give him this, at least for this class, he's very fair. If you show up to class often, put in some time on homework and the very few take-home tests he gives, and then do the practice quizzes to study for the actual quiz its tough to not do really well.
Davender is the most unhelpful math teacher I have had and I have had a lot of bad ones. He says homework is completion but even if you do it you wont get full credit. His tests are take home, but the class average on TAKE HOME tests was a 60%. If you don't say it exactly his way you are wrong no discussion. Not helpful during office hours either.
Worst professor I've ever had. Had to withdraw from the class (as did half of my peers). The material is hard material but when half of the class is withdrawing that's when you know there's a problem. Students were constantly correcting him and he only ever writes on the chalkboard with tiny handwriting that is equivalent to that of a 1st graders.
He's one of those professors that knows the material very well, but does not explain in the best way. I needed a tutor all semester in order to pass this class.
The class was full. My only option was online. He wrote the book and to my understanding no other classes use it. I studied all online information provided for class. I failed first test and found a tutor. The tutor made the information very easy for me to understand. With homework assignments and tests I ended up with an A. Tutor a must.
Dr. Malik gives lectures in a way that makes little sense to the majority of the class. He may do one or two examples, but will not explain what he is doing or why he is doing it. Also, his grading is rather subjective considering the subject, as he always found ways to say I did not show enough work, even though I always showed each step.
Simply better teachers. I got an A thanks to teaching myself, despite not missing one class and taking notes every class.
He is very hard to understand and constantly says the same phrases throughout class when no one responds to him. Very smart dude but hard to ask questions as he just tells you what you did was wrong. I would try to get a different teacher.
Wasn't a huge fan of Dr. Malik, or the entire Creighton math department. He just makes this class overly hard for kids who are mostly business majors taking this to get a pre-requisite out of the way. His one saving grace for me was the awesome one-on-one help I got in his office hours while prepping for test #3. Other than that, the class was ehh.
Take Dr. Malik if you want to count down until you're out of this class! Expect 4 assignments and a take home exam due every class! Get ready for homework graded for accuracy that tanks your grade! Enjoy REQUIRED lectures that add nothing to your understanding. Miss 2 classes? Drop a letter grade! In all seriousness, wait for another professor.
Malik gets a lot of slack but I found his class to not be too terrible. It is very much a typical math class but Malik does a good job at giving examples and helping students to understand concepts. He also gives pop quizzes for extra credit as well as curves tests. While having math at 8 am twice a weak was painful, I'm glad it was with Dr. Malik.
Highly tough grader. Not too much sympathy. Does not curve tests, takes me about two hours a week with the homework. Tests are impossible. Just wait for another professor. Freaks out if he sees a phone but is on his 24/7. You would think Creighton would hire a much better department chair than him. Just wait for another section to open up. Trust me
The absolute worst professor I have ever had, and that's saying a lot. I didn't learn a single thing from him, I had to either try to learn it myself, ask someone else in the class, or go for tutoring. Speaking of tutoring, I had to go after every class. Half the class dropped the class after the first class, and I saw people cry too.
Would NOT recommend this professor. He is a nice guy but the class is very unorganized and you are basically on your own to learn the difficult material. Additionally, there are two papers that are graded all the same worth 30% of your grade and are super difficult.
In high school I enjoyed math very much and even though I felt challenged I still did extremely well in the courses. While taking Malik, I could not understand his lectures and if felt like he detested teaching this class as well. I did not enjoy his personality and believe he is not proficient in explaining concepts. Good luck if you have him.
Thick accent and doesn't really explain material well. I really like Prof. Malik but he just falls short in so many areas of teaching. You will find yourself just so unengaged and not wanting to put in any effort.
Malik is an easy class with test that arent that hard as long as you study. Many of the questions on the sample quiz will show up on the test. He also curves some of the exams. I hate math and this class wasnt a struggle.
Malik is a very smart man, but that doesn't translate over to being able to teach. His lectures are hard to follow and half the time if you ask him to explain, he makes it more confusing. His attempts at getting the class to participate are getting you to repeat what he just said. He's slightly more helpful if you go into his office hours and ask.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS Malik is a man whos strengths do not lie in teaching. Seriously. His lectures are confusing and hard to follow. If you go to him outside of class he's ok but if you're behind at all, don't expect any help from him.
If you're good at Math then this class won't be too hard. A lot of assignments but the answers to some of them are at the back of the textbook. He goes fast sometimes in his lectures but always answers any questions. He's pretty funny too.
Overall, Dr. Malik is one of the better choices for 201. He speaks quietly and has an accent that takes some getting used to. Homework and worksheets are usually due every other week. He doesn't always fully explain concepts and he tends to run through the material quickly. Exams after every two chapters, a midterm, and a final.
ok I think that he isn't as bad as most of the reviews make him seem. his class is easy if you study from his homework because he takes questions from them to make the tests. however, he's hard to understand and does annoying things like having class the same day you have a test or making homework due at 5pm on a Friday
He's a nice guy but if you have not taken calc before I don't recommend it. HIs worksheets are worth 70 points each and you have to show extensive work or else little or no credit is given. His lectures were basically him reading the slides with little explanation of his own.
This is the worst teacher I haver ever taken at Creighton. He just reads off slides for lectures and doesn't fully explain what to do. Also if you try and correct his mistakes he will hold it against you. I had a B plus in the class, but with the final he said I got a 2% so i ended with a D. Then he raised it to a C. DON'T TAKE HIM!!!
Ive never had a worse math professor. I got every question correct on a math exam and got a 71% because I didnt do it exactly how he does it.
If you don't care much about math, take Malik. His tests are exactly like the study guides and he gives a ton of extra credit. It's pretty much impossible not to get an A
Worst Professor ever. Does not teach, kind of intimidating, and expects you to understand everything from looking at his disjointed notes. Zero study help, tons of packets, and so much book work which doesnt help. He said hw would be completion. We do all the homework miss a single step points are gone.
Dr. Malik runs a tight, confusing ship. He gives out ridiculous amounts of homework and expects you to teach yourself important class modules. I would avoid him if you can.
This is possibly the worst teacher I have ever had. I could not understand anything he said. He would mess up answers on quizzes and homework and mark it wrong when it was right. I signed up for a different teacher and was given this one because no one signed up for his class. Had to withdraw because I was not able to switch to a different teacher
Assigns ungodly amount of homework and you never know when it's due. Tells you to check online and sometimes you find it, alot of times you don't. Can't understand his teaching either. First college class I ever skipped because I know I'll be teaching it to myself. Best word to sum this class up is confusing. Don't expect to learn a thing.
Professor Malik is obviously a very intelligent man. He knows what he is talking about. Unfortunately he oftentimes fails to help his students to understand what he is talking about. If you are not already proficient at math, I would not suggest taking Dr. Malik
Terrible teacher. I cannot understand what he is teaching and does not take time to go over topics and material. Has a ZERO tolerance policy for late work...(even if you are dying in a hospital). Teaches at the speed of sound.
Don't even know where to start with this guy. 2.3/5 rating atm is extremely generous. Professor Malik obviously has the smarts to be a stats teacher, but there is no teaching ability in him. None at all. Stupid amount of homework that is graded on accuracy, not completion. Truly, do everything in your power not to take him.
Malik has good intentions (I think) but that's about the only good thing I have to say about him. Worse semester of my life. So many long assignments graded on accuracy not just completion. 0 late work accepted. Difficult to understand. Long tests. Avoid Malik at all costs.
He is a great person, but man that final was HARD. he also gives a lot of paper and grades for accuracy on another level
Teaching students is not Professor Malik's strong suit. He will expect you to know everything beforehand. He also talks so quiet that you are not able to listen, along with moving too fast. He is a very smart man, so teaching seems like something he does not care about.
am confused at the other reviews and it seems like those students did not really study well or put in time to learn the concepts. However, if you do not clearly put in your attention and effort into the learning the material, you will not do well. If you want to do well, do work outside of the class and make an effort.
I had him for math 120 or math of the modern world and it was the easiest class ever. We barley ever had homework and if you didn't do it he would give exceptions. The test were very easy and some were even take home (our final was take home). He's pretty funny and gave us candy on halloween. I think he's great.
such a nice guy but cannot teach. grading is so tough, lots of homework. the tests are nothing like the study guides.
If you have to take 141, take Malik over anyone else. It's not impossible to get an A. He's not a great professor, but no one in the math department is. Do the work on time (you'll be given the answers) and you'll be fine. He grades exams on an insane curve so your grade goes up a lot from your raw score. Textbook is given to you free online
He was pretty hard to understand sometimes so sit up front. Also, he overcomplicates everything so you have to teach yourself, and when you figure out he overcomplicates problems it's super frustrating. He is an extremally smart guy though. He randomly says "yes no" a lot too, so take a shot every time he does. Study for tests with friends.
Malik is one of the worst professors I've ever taken. His lectures were extremely difficult to understand and he overcomplicated simplest concepts. Insane amount of homework, graded very harshly. I dropped the class because of the ridiculous workload and my lack of understanding of the material, retook it with another professor and it was a breeze.
Lots of homework that graded on accuracy. Worksheets were done in class, so missing one class could mean you missed out on 10 points because he doesn't accept any late work. Lectures could be hard to hear and understand at times. Tests were almost identical to the practice tests. Clearly understands the math, but not great at teaching.
Took Calculus I over the summer. Be prepared to do 30+ pages of homework each week. Very intense. I had to teach myself most of the material because his slides were extremely long and confusing. If you put in the work you will do fine.
Math 141 with Professor Malik is a good class that you can succeed in if you put in the work and play his system right. He does give a lot of homework but he posts all the answer keys and gives a lot of time so you just need to start ahead. I definitely recommend attending class everyday because he will offer occasional extra credit too.
Very difficult to understand clearly if English is not your first language. Tons of homework, be prepared to spend multiple hours on textbook work. Would not recommend for students who learn better in class rather than self-teaching. If you miss class, you are unable to turn in the in-class worksheets that was supposed to be due that day.
Professor Malik's class is a mixed bag - tough on homework and grading, but can be manageable if you stay on top of the work. Using Unstuck study along with the free textbook helped me prepare efficiently.
if you can help it don't take him. if you can't--buckle in. heavy-ish accent and quiet. either over-explains basics or breezes thru hard-ish stuff. gives a lot of extra credit, you should pass if you do the work. layout: worksheets done together in class, then do hw, with quizzes every other week. hw due dates can be easy to miss, so watch out
Dr Malik is nice but a horrible teacher. He assigns an insane amount of homework. He grades very unfairly. If you get the right answer and show all the work he still takes points off. Very unfair grader. He overcomplicates the simplest concepts and dose't teach in an organized way. If possible avoid taking Malik very unfair teacher.
Decent class. HEAVY curve on the test which helps people out. Tests are straightforward. Not a ton of homework but when he does give it out, it is pretty long. Easy notes every class that he explains. If you get to know him, he is kinda funny and he does care about his students. If you are good at math, you'll be fine.
super nice guy. awful professor. If you don't already understand calculus at the beginning of the semester, you wont by the end. If you didn't take a similar class in high school, avoid Malik at all costs. Very little teaching is actually done, other than him mumbling at the whiteboard as he stumbles over practice problems for 75 minutes.
I've never felt like I was drowning in a class until I took MTH 141 with Malik. It was easily the worst semester of my life and I've never felt like that before. Homework is a 2 hour assignment every week! Easily the worst class I've taken at Creighton and I had a tutor 2 times a week for this class as well. Cannot understand him either in class.
Homework is very long and tedious and usually isn't on the tests so it's not worth your time doing, only graded on participation. Worksheets are harshly graded, but are basically the tests. Speaks in a very whispery tone if you have a good background in calculus, not that bad of a class final project is basically impossible
Homework is very excessive and worth very little, tests are reasonable if you study and usually have a decent curve. Dr Malik is nice but he's bad at explaining complex concepts clearly- don't take his class if you haven't already taken calc.
*Calc knowledge required* With AP Calc in high school taken, this class was very easy, the only hard part is showing work to problems that are solved mentally in one step. I have had difficulty completing homework because of the amount of it assigned, but it is weighed significantly less than tests(w/ curve). Very nice guy, horrible professor.
Dr. Malik is so nice and funny, but he is a horrible professor. There's tons of homework each week with worksheets due on top of that, but you mostly do worksheets in class. Would not recommend him if you haven't taken calc before, but he randomly gives extra credit and grades tests on a huge curve.
I love Dr. Malik. There are a lot of people who really don't click with his teaching style, but once you get to talking with him, I feel like he is a professor that really wants to see his students learn. I feel like this class is best understood if you come in without a prior calculus background.
