She is new, so I guess she is learning how to teach. So far so good. Let's see what happens next...
She's a new teacher and really pretty for my guys!!!! chemistry isn't a easy subject but with her help its a breeze. Well organized and very friendly!!! She uses Powerpoints so really no book is needed..
Not a teacher, she is never prepared and does not know what she is talking about. dont take her
take the course online she reads the powerpoint presentations to you. can not teach! no experience!!!!dont do it!!!
Organic Chemistry. She's okay and she tries to help you but she has not teacher experience and doesn't know the material. Her grades are fair but if there is an unfair question on the test she will not give you those points back (mostly because she doesn't know why it is unfair). In a couple of years I imagine she'd be good but at the moment, no.
She's really nice and very helpful. Read the book as well as her ppt. and you'll do fine. Also do the ex. problems from the back of the book that helps. Her Exams are not that hard but you do need to study as well as undestand the concept...She's very sweet.
She's very helpful and patient... she only reads from her powerpoints though. If you want an A easy take her.
she tries to help but doesn't know how to teach. anybody can stand in front of class and read a powerpoint every single class! How are you supposed to understand reading off of a powerpoint?
I AM TAKING HER FOR CHM1033L ISHE IS HORRIBLE POINT OFF FOR ANYTHING SHE USUALLY GIVES HOMEWORK AND SHE TAKE POINTS OFF FOR ANY STUPID THINGS BEWARE OF THIS NEW UNEXPERIENCED TEACHER SHE DOES NOT SEEN TO BE HAPPY WHEN YOU ASK SOMETHING TO HER SO YOU NOW KNOW STAY AWAY.
She is not a bad teacher HOWEVER the material I found it to be extremely hard and her test to me are a little unfair because its only 25 questions. With that much material, I honestly think it should be more questions than that.
For all of you who are saying the professor is the worst and impossible to learn from, you obviously didn't study. I took Professor Holness over a 6 week period las semester and she is one of the best professors I've had in my entire educational experience. I got a high A in her class and it isn't hard to do if you just study.
Ok, for the person who wrote about cheating that was in the same class I was in over summer. It is probably you who was cheating! She never made anyone move seats until that one girl cheated so that is a false accusation. Also, learn how to spell and speak correctly if you are going to write something bad about professor Holness. She's GREAT!!
this for the lab. i saw what other students are doing at other campuses for this course, and its far less than her class. this lady SUCKS. useless, does not help you, makes the lab uninteresting which is difficult, and is real stringent about grades and attendance. i completely regret taking this course with her. stay away from this lady at wolfson
Knows her stuff! Incredibly smart, very easy to talk to. I hated Chem before taking her class, and she made me love it. If you plan on cheating your way thru the class, pick another professor. She has zero tolerance for nonsense, so act decent and STUDY and you'll get the grade you deserve!
love, love, LOVE this professor. I had SO much confidence leaving this course when I had NONE going into it. Study the powerpoints like it's your job, ask questions when you don't understand (or else you'll fall behind), and for goodness sakes, SHOW UP FOR CLASS! Everyday after class, go home and review for an hour. You will thank me.
GOOD TEACHER, SHE IS YOUNG AND SHE WILL HELP YOU UNDERSTAND THE WORK... LIKE REALLY
THE WORST, THE WORST, and THE WORST professor. This is for the lab, chemistry lab is so easy, but not with this professor. She doesn?t help you and you feel with scare in her class. DO NOT DO IT.
She is amazing, she is very funny and remembers everyone's names she is concerned about her students and stops any time in the class to explain again,, very recomended
She is THE best chem professor to have. Not only is she helpful, encouraging, and has the ability to relate to her students, she is also a teacher and a mentor. You just have to go to her. If you don't get an A, it is your fault. Just be sure to read your chapters, reach are easy to understand.
She is absolutely AMAZING. I had her for chemistry. She's very concerned with your progress. She makes the powerpoints available to you and even gives a study guide for every exam. I did use the book to review and do additional practice problems and I received an A in the class. I would def. recommend her!
I honestly thought she could have taught the class in a much easier fashion. All she seemed to do was go through the powerpoints and put basic questions and then for the exams but the same style of basic questions but flipped and much harder than expected. She doesn't teach this class very well but I suppose she's better at explaining basic chem.
she does try to explain things but i guess she is still too new, overall not bad if you study at least 2hr a week.
PLEASE STAY AWAY. I passed the class so i am not a frustrated student but i am honest. Horrible teacher who does not help thos who need it. Way too fast and not connected to be teaching at this level. Please stay away
best chem teacher ever. her powerpoints are very clear and her exams are very fair.she encorages you to think outside of the box. great experience.
She is new&young, she is willing to help, I got an A,and these are my suggestions to get an A,1study the book 2pay attention to what she says(notes) 3READ AND DO THE REVIEWS!her exams are exactly like the reviews but she might flip the questions .so read the topics of the review questions.take 50min cls,(multiplechoice-25),gives extracredit in HW).
I took her for 1025, 1045 &1045L, my experience in all of the classes was positive. To do well on her tests you must read the textbook and practice on your own time. She's always willing to help during office hours; she tries to show you that hard work pays off. I found the lab a bit more difficult but I definetely learned a lot! Highly reccomended
I took her for a 6 week summer course and she made the class interesting. It's not hard, all you have to do is study and you should get a B or higher in her class.
Very helpful, gives tests and quizzes. Boring class, though I've yet to attend an exciting chemistry class. She's not hard, the word needs your attentiveness in class.
This teacher is rude. She does not have time to talk to the student stating that she does not get paid for it. She teach at mediocre level but her test are difficult with a mismatch on what she teach and what she test. Her passing score 60%. Telling that Ms Hudson is a bad professor unable to reach student(when too many fail is the teacher fault.
Worst Chemistry Professor ever. Please do not take her.She is a hypocrite and she loves to see people suffer. She is not helpful and she is a hard grader. She does not teach only reads from a PowerPoint. God bless on those who take her.
This is coming from a student who got an A in her class: Prior to attending this class, students told me I would get an F because she's a horrible teacher. This proved to be NOT TRUE! She's one of the best Professors! If you have any questions she is willing to help during office hours and has test reviews that really help. Always read before class
She did not help me one bit and I was not the lazy student that didn't care about their grade. I really tried in her class. When I asked her for help, she recommended to just withdraw instead of helping me. She also condescends you, not just me but other students as well. She really is harsh, cold and doesn't teach well. She made me hate chemistry.
She may intimidate u at first, but as u go along u'll see that she's very nice person. It's a lab,u have to attend each day and turn prlab, report and post-lab, no-late report are accepted. You need to read the lab prior attending, for you'll be quizzed. No midterm, only an easy final. It's an esy class since you're learning by doing things by yourself
She is nice and young but that becomes irrelevant as soon as you start the class. She just reads the powerpoints and gives some explanation but not sufficient. The book is your best tool and do the probablems because they may be exactly on the test. Go to her office if you need help. She doesn't realate well with students. Choose another professor.
Awesome Professor. Very helpful and nice. The class is okay in terms of difficulty. It's a college level course. The material may be hard, but she explains very good and easy.
awesome professor
Awesome Professor. She is very nice and sweet. Even though this class is hard, she tries to help us out. Each test we got extra credit. Towards the end of the semester she gives out another extra credit, she really wants to see us pass. She explains very good and her tests are ok. 4 tests & 1 final, the final is acs and she doesn't write it.
First of all her class was boring. Second she was alright, as for me I just didn't like her way of teaching it didn't motivate in class. Her exams are alright must study.. ALOT!
Best professor ever!!! She uses powerpoints as her way of teaching. Buying the book is optional since everything, literally EVERYTHING is on her powerpoints. She loves teaching and is very knowledgeable. I passed her class with flying colors.
Great professor, she's really helpful and wants you to pass. However you have to work for your grade. If you study and practice from her power points you will do fine. You really don't need the book, but you do need the mastering chemistry for the HW.
Shes nice. But this class is very hard you have to study very hard to pass her test.I failed each test, had to change my major that's how hard this class is. So be prepared
Intelligent, but very hard. Difficult to contact her, do not take her if you need time to study. If you understand chemistry very well, go ahead. Her exams are fair, but tricky. Easily takes points off. Gives extra points, credit in exams
This class was extremely fast paced. There is no time to actually learn the material. The objective of this class is to get you to pass the ACS, not to teach you chemistry. There is A LOT! of memorization. Most students failed. Only about 10 did okay.
If you want to get an A, get another professor. She is very hard and rushes through the Powerpoint presentation. I took her for the lab part and she is very picky in grading lab reports. She gives 50 minutes only for 25 questions that involves calculation. Her rationale??? Take the time from the other questions that does not need calculations.
She is FAIR. After all it is chemistry and if you know you have a problem in that area just study and you'll pass her class. She's an experienced teacher and she provides you with all the material you will need. She does rush a bit toward the end of the course but that's the easiest part of the course as long as you have the first half down packed.
Professor Hudson-Holness is very clear with her lectures and is willing to help you if you're stuck. Chemistry requires time and effort and I guarantee you that she cares enough to help you as an individual or class as a whole. Her tests and homework are crucial, but the best part is that she provides study guides which really helped me to pass.
She is terrible at explaining and only uses power point. if you get stuck on a homework don't expect her to help you. Avoid this lady at all cost.
This teacher doesn't help you at all, if you cant understand something she will literally tell you to read your notes on your own time. She goes extremely fast and only concentrates on finishing her powerpoint and not you understanding completely. When you ask whats gonna be on the test she says she doesn't know and to study the whole 4 chapters.
You have to do a lot of independent studying to get that A. The final exam (70 q110 min) is 13 of your final grade and its graded on a nationwide curve by ACS. You have to put alot of effort. She will expect you to do so, and will not curve exams. Multiple choice with no partial credit, 25 q. But she wants you to pass, Chemistry is just hard!
I loved her, two exams and 3 test. if you really study the powerpoints you will pass. her lectures are the powerpoint so take notes and pay attention. use her office hours, she always says those who use them are usually the ones that get an A. after the withdraw period the class will shrink. but still i got an A.
She seems that she wants students to understand what she is teaching but when asked questions she refers you to the book since she doesn't have time. Never at office hours. I found it discouraging that midway through the semester she urged students to drop and take another professor if they weren't performing well. Professors should never say that.
This professor is not helpful in class when questions are asked. Replies in a condescending way so students leave confused refers you to the book . She makes it impossible for you to get full extra credit in PLTL and each semester makes it harder by administering tests so if you get any questions wrong it takes points away that you can earn.
She expects you to know everything before entering class. Teaches mainly from ppt. Three exams and hw from MasteringChemistry. If you take her, be prepared to study . Tells students to drop her class if they're doing bad. Final is ACS Exam (70 q, 110 mins). Buy the recommened ACS handbook! Not impossible to get an A, but you REALLY have to work!!!
She is a nice teacher, she smiles, and always ask her students do they understand, but if you know nothing about chemistry, i advise you not to take her because her level teaching is as if you are in a chem 1 class its like she expects you to know the material especially if you are not a fast learner. She gives extra credit but only 1.
I took her for the summer and this was a nightmare. She expects you know and everything and the information you don't know she will expect you to know in less than 24 hours. Her power point are long and boring. The test consist on 25 questions to be done in 50 minutes. There's no extra credit and she doesn't give attendance point.
She does not teach in a way that's understandable. And she also zooms through the power points and refers you to the textbook if you have any questions. If you are referred to the text what is the point of having a professor? She does not seem to genuinely care for students to pass her class.
3 tests + a cumulative final. She drops the lowest grade. If you study, you'll get an A. She's a good professor, but sometimes annoying with her Chem 1 story, telling us how though this class will be. But overall, she is good
I took her for CHM1025 for summer and it was not easy. She knows her chemistry but doesn't teach it well. We had to memorize a ton of rules beyond what was required for this class. She never lets class out early and her lectures are very dry and boring. I would not take a class with her again. She was very intimidating to ask for help from.
She is tough but if you give this subject your all, she will acknowledge you. She's not very strict on attendance but if you never show up to lectures, you'll most likely fail. If you study hard, you'll get an A. Chemistry is life basically. lol
She is a great professor ! She explains as much as she can with the time she has available if she sees that the class isn't doing so well as a whole she'll change her teaching style. She doesn't give h.w or study guides but she gives out a lot of handouts that can really help understand the subject and on blackboard gives her previous test to study
She's a very very good professor but don't take it for granted. You'll have to work hard to pass the class. She explains every topic really good, making you understand and she helps you if you need it during her office hours. She makes you UNDERSTAND HOW Chemistry WORKS. If you're a good student who fights and tries to get good grades, take her.
She expects a lot from you. She expects you to read the PowerPoint and books before the class. I would suggest you to look up practice questions and practice, practice and practice. Chemistry is hard, you have to be consistent with it. Her course is only based off of test so if you mess up on one test you're in hot water.
I am currently taking her class she is very thorough in her teaching and she cares about her students. Every class is a load of important information and she breaks it piece by piece and delivers her knowledge well she also changed her teaching style for our class if your interested in learning chem and you are a no excuse type person take her.
Get ready for this class or you wouldn't pass
Nope wrong choice just click the back button she's good but not great no review packets no chances.
Will definitely take her for my CHM 1045! Her class is tough, and she would make you do a lot of work(if you want to pass with A or B). I got C on my first test, B on my 2nd test, and A on the 3rd test. her exam is easy, you just have to practice the problems a lot. Ask her everything, she will definitely help you :)
Chemistry itself is hard. Never liked this class but professor Hudson knows how to teach this class.
She is not a bad teacher, but you have to study alittle more than you should. The class is full of important informations, but you have to read on your own for the test( to memorize the theories and stuff) don't forget to study previous test questions.
I took her in a 6 week terms. She was not that bad, explained well but it was too much works in a short amount of time. Gavè 2 extra credits. Attendance was mandatory . She's sarcastic and tried her best to make class interesting.
Unique
I am currently taking this class and one thing i can tell you right away is that she doesn't care if you fail. Very knowledgeable but does not know how to teach properly or connect with the students at all. She encourages to think outside the box, which includes a ton of work on your part and actually have a brain. Take her if you want honors CHM.
does not provide homework, extra credit or any bonus, She gives three tests, so if you fail them, Good luck, You have to do a lot of independent work, a lot, You can pass the class, she gives practice worksheets and practice tests on blackboard.
CHM1045 was my hardest course yet. I had a solid 4.0 GPA and this class was horrible. Her tests are only 25 questions, which give VERY LITTLE chance for mistakes, even the silly ones. She sends lots of excercises and the book excercises. She is a good professor, but her tests are the toughest.
Holness is an amazing professor but you got to put in the work for the grade. Be ready to read and breath chemistry for the whole semester.
chm 1045 one of the hardest classes ever, super hard class and her test are harder then the actual final.
This professor is honestly amazing. She is so caring and explains well. However chemistry, is difficult. It is not easy at all to pass this course. It requires a lot of practice and studying. Sometimes, not even that is enough. I wish she provided homework or extra credit to help your grade, but it's college. I'm sure a university is tougher.
The class was hard, she knows her stuff but her test are heavy, it was just horrible.
She is such a great teacher and will help you whenever you need it. I took her six week course so it was very fast paced and required a lot ( A LOT) of studying! Honestly it's a chemistry class so studying is mandatory. There are only four tests so make sure you're on top of your notes. She also gave two extra credits that really helped.
Professor Holness knows what shes teaching and is very clear. Explains lessons thoroughly and if there is something you dont understand she is very helpful in helping you understand the material. ask questions and STUDYY!!
Dr. Holness is honestly my only choice as a professor for chemistry,. She teaches clearly and actually cares if you understood. she will always be available to explain anything after class and during office hours. of course this is chemistry, if you don't study and do your work at home, you will fail
Holness is an amazing teacher. She is sarcastic and sometimes funny, but also very intimidating. You have to study a lot to pass her class. Also, tutoring helps if you need it.
Even tough I failed her class I have to tell the truth and she a really good professor, if you really want to learn I suggest you to take her, just if you are chem or bio major if you are not do not take her is going to be hard for you.
Shes a good teacher, its just mostly independent work. No extra credit, and 3 tests and a final by the American Chemical Society
PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM HER IF YOU WANT TO PASS Chemistry! She's a horrible professor and doesn't care about students. She doesn't even care if you fail. There are only three test and a final but doesn't even drop the lowest grade or give out extra credit. Chemistry is tough but students would appreciate a teacher who actually cares for them.
If you want to pass Chemistry please don't take her. You will have to study super hard to pass her exams. There are 3 exams and a final but she doesn't care to drop the lowest grade or gives extra credit to help students out. I regret taking her class and shae has got to be the hardest professor that i've ever taken here. Doesn't care about others
She's one of the best professor's i've ever had. Her lectures are very clear and she explains and helps as much as she's supposed to and more. She's always accessible during her office hours and has extra learning assistants to help her students. You have read her powerpoint and do the worksheets she hands out. Everything she hands out is helpful.
Best chemistry professor at Dade. She truly cares about students learning. Very accessible. She knows her chemistry and very clear on different topics. Get ready to study though and do the work on your part.
Her lectures are very clear, but to really succeed in her class you need to study a lot at home and try to understand the concepts very well because most likely she will quiz you on it. fair grading too.
Best teacher I have ever had that makes you work hard for your grade. By the end of the course, you will be very knowledgable in chemistry.
One of the best chemistry professor at Miami Dade. This class isnt easy so if you dont expect to read and put in your part then do not enroll in her class
Excellent prof! Granted, I'm biased because math/science comes easy to me. Best way to pass this class is to pay attention in class and take notes as she break concepts and formulas down in layman's terms. If you need help, ask her on the spot before she continues and she'll give you some practice questions. Bootcamps also available.
this class is so difficult but shes good in teaching but i bet u just have to study on your own to pass it . there are 10 quizzes,3 test and 1 final test so if u fail 1 test you are on your own but if u are good in math i bet u will pass it but if your are not i recommend you not taking .
DO NOT TAKE HER. Honestly one of the the worst professors Ive ever had. She picks favorites and does not care to see you pass. She is very bad at explaning concepts and gives no examples when reading off the power point. If you want a good grade, take someone else. More than 75% of my class was failing after the second test, dont waste your money
terrible, she gives one question quizzes every week. Which is insanely stupid. Or you get a 100 or a zero. Guess what she typically posts the hardest question on the quiz from the worksheets. So typically if you are not a good chemistry student. You are going to fail. She is setting you up for failure, literally
ugh i wish i withdrew from this class instead of failing. one thing i can say is that she knows the information and is very smart. she has potential to be a great proffesor but she lacks some compassion and understanding! if youre one of those students who is great in chemistry take her, but if not DONT.
She acquires a lot of knowledge, thus knows what's she's teaching. She likes students to ask questions, even if they're cynical or repetitive. She provides students with many handouts and past exams to prepare for the exams. You MUST study and take advantage of the resources she gives you or you will not succeed in the class.
unless you have a really good background of chemistry do not take her. Even with the curve she has its still a major struggle and I'm not one to struggle in my classes. Taking this class as a 6 week term was one of the biggest mistakes ive done. She assigns 4 question quizzes which is so dumb. One wrong and and you already have a C.
Do not take her!. It truly doesnt matter if you have previous knowledge on chemistry or not. Infact I have a whole masters in science but took this course for personal reasons. This professor is the example of someone who hates her job at community college. She tests heavily on concepts that she brushed over and she lacks compassion & care.
Shes terrible. There was someone in my class who personally knew her outside from class. It was ironic how he would us or be confused on the simplest concepts but yet got 100% on exams. Something fishy here as if this professor gave hime previous test. Shes unhelpful and I would have never passed unless it was for previous chemistry knowledege.
I strongly recommend not taking this class, especially if you are a nonscience major. The class is very intensive and strenuous - lots of memorization and studying. The teacher, while informed and well versed in the material, is condescending and seeds a reluctance in students to ask questions. She also moves at warp speed through the material.
seems passionate about Chemistry but should stick to teaching upper level courses. Tests/Quizzes are worth a large part of grade but have few questions. She skims over material in lecture but the tests require in-depth knowledge, making it a very tough class to pass and nearly impossible to get an A in. Should not be the case for an intro course!!
A very stressful class. For an "intro" to Chemistry course, I expected something that was challenging but still manageable. Tests and quizzes are tricky and require you to get really deep into the material. Quizzes are very short. Might be possible for people who get Chemistry; if you don't, save yourself the stress. Not worth it.
Is knowledgeable in chemistry but beware theres only 3 exams that determine if you pass or fail. Theres small quizzes but they barely help at all, her grading scale is not easy to decipher what grades you need to get to improve your grade. The practice problems barely help(just stick to the textbook its more similar to the test)
This course was really hard because there were a lot of memorizing formulas and all, and a lot of theory. However, she was extremely nice, gave tons of practice, recorded each class, and was there for office hours. I took this class online (COVID), but I think I would have gotten a lower grade it if it was in person. Just pay attention in class.
Great teacher, caring, and loves when students ask question. You will be expected to read outside of class. A quiz after each chapter and after 3-4 chapters you have an exam. NO EXTRA CREDIT or homework. She is very knowledgeable and responds to any email rather quickly. Every assignment is done with lockdown browser. Remember to read and study.
Dr. Holness is truly a great teacher, but not an easy one. You will most definitely have to work for your A. Her class requires a lot of reading and in-depth knowledge about the subject (which she will teach you). Be ready to do many practice chem problems. She is extremely knowledgeable on her subjects.
Frankly her class is horrible your grade almost depends entirely on 4 tests. Her grading scale is frankly horrible. Her class depends entirely on tests 3 tests worth 100 points total, 25 questions each which each question is worth 4 points, her final is 200 points, and 10 quizzes worth 5 points each. No homework or projects. Don't take her class.
She really knows a lot. I am sure she is a great profesional but I believe she makes this class way harder than it should be. Final grade is almost entirely based on 3 test 25 questions in 50 min, and the final 50 questions 90min, and NO extra credit:)
Please avoid this professor. She starts off as a great professor but after the first 3 weeks she shows who she really is. She doesn’t not teach & she is such a hard grader for no reason. Her tests are so difficult for no reason. Her tests consist of topics she discussed one for a few minutes not everything else she spent weeks talking about.
Let me tell you about this horrible professor. She will spend weeks reviewing the same thing for the test. You think it’ll be about the things she never shut up about but instead it’s about the things she mentioned maybe once or twice. For your own mental health, choose a better professor than Davia! SHE IS THE WORST!!
She really have the knowledge, but she make the class so difficult. She likes to read a bunch of stuff during class time, and at the exam the topics are way different. She don't like to help with study guide and the time for the exams it is not enough. IF YOU DON'T WNAT TO FAIL THIS CLASS, CHOOSE A BETTER PROFESSOR.
After reading the atrocious reviews about Dr. Holness's lectures, I've had an obligation to give my own. If not interested in learning/understanding chemistry do not take her class. Do yourself a favor and go with a professor who doesn't care about you becoming a "Qualified Professional". Now, if you want to learn TAKE HER! Thank you, Dr. Holness.
This professor is nice but her tests are difficult and I don't think she explained things very thoroughly. She's definitely knowledgeable, but does not teach chemistry that well. I found I learned mostly through the readings and through practice problems. She gives extra credit but the final exam is lengthy and difficult. Good luck!
Dr. Holness was detailed, precise and patient throughout the lectures and course. The material and coursework was structured so there were never any surprises. She was accessible outside of class. She also made lecture topics relatable so it was easy to comprehend! One of the best professors I've ever had. Definitely would recommend.
Dr Holness is a caring but tough professor. Chemistry is hard as it is, but she cares for her students and tries to engage with the class. She provides worksheets in class that help you study for tests. Grades are based on participation assignments, hws, 4 tests, and a final. The tests were on paper, and the final was done in a computer lab.
very caring and thorough professor, could have gotten a higher grade if I applied myself more. Those who put in the effort required will excel in this class with no problem. Very good at explaining and she gives u everything u need to succeed. Provides countless worksheets and packets for extra practice but it is up to u if u decide to use them.
Professor Holness is the BEST chem professor for Intro and Chem one. Whatever she teaches is on the test and thats it. She is knowledgeable and as long as you study you will pass with flying colors. She is AMAZING at teaching you will understand everything. I reccomend this class if you wanna learn its great.
She is an amazing professor! She explains well and goes through many problems from the textbook and worksheets she gives. She will give you multiple tries on the homework if needed and is super understanding. Her tests were fair, just study what she taught. If you actually want to learn, this is the class for you
Had Holness for both Intro and 1045 and she's just unmatched in quality. Her tests are very fair (if you study youll do well) but chemistry itself is difficult. She's always available out of class and gives plenty of opportunities for you to end with a nice grade. If she were to teach Gen 2 I'd absolutely take it but I dont need it. 10/10 recommend
She's awesome! She takes time to explain each concept & remembers every student. There are participation assignments & homework for every chapter. 4 quizzes covering 3 chapters each. no mid-term exam but there is a final exam. Just pay attention and you'll have no problem with the quizzes/exams. Offers extra credit worth 3%. Would take her again!
Sends reminders of due homework on weekends/weekdays way past work hours !:) Weekly homework and in-class procedures(not graded) keep you in check of the curriculum, you can struggle but you will never be lost. The hw. and prac. questions are 50x harder than the exams. But you can't google the amount of oxygens in nitrate so it evens out.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU JUST NEED THE CREDIT!!! Good teacher if you are VERY interested in chem/stem. If you are not, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. Does not favor DE students. BE READY TO GRIND. If you are passionate for sciences, this is the class to push you to maximize your understanding, but again, if not, DO NOT TAKE.
The most difficult course I have ever taken. she is extremely test heavy, she gives 4 tests that consist of 40 questions that are harder than any she explains in class. She warps through her powerpoints. the Hw she gives are only 10% of the grade. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOURE NOT ALREADY GOOD AT CHEM. the test are ur whole grade.
worst professor!! do not take her!!! does not teach anything and you will need to learn EVERYTHING on your own!!!!! Tests are hard and count for pretty much all of your grade. Take any other professor. She just skims through powerpoints during class.
worst science professor in MDC department. mean, passive aggressive and overall just a terrible teacher. get ready to learn everything on your own.

WORST professor
Horrible professor
Frankly her class is horrible your grade almost depends entirely on 4 tests. Her grading scale is frankly horrible. Her class depends entirely on tests 3 tests worth 100 points total, 25 questions each which each question is worth 4 points, her final is 200 points, and 10 quizzes worth 5 points each. No homework or projects. Don't take her class!

WORST meanest professor at MDC
WORST meanest professor at MDC you need to teach yourself everything she does not teach she only read slides
very knowledgeable but also very mean person. Does not teach anything and does not want to help students succeed in CHEM1045
very knowledgeable but also very mean person. Does not teach anything and does not want to help students succeed in CHEM1045 Thankfully she does not teach the 1045 Lab too anymore
do not take her for 1045!!!!!!!!!!!!
She knows her chemistry but doesn't teach it well. We had to memorize a ton of rules beyond what was required for this class. She never lets class out early and her lectures are very dry and boring. I would not take a class with her again. She was very intimidating to ask for help from. I took her for 1045 and would never take her again

This class was extremely fast paced. There is no time to actually learn the material. The objective of this class is to get you to pass the ACS, not to teach you chemistry. There is A LOT! of memorization. and she does not teach
SUCH a bad professor!
worst professor for CHEM 1045! take anyone but her
By far the best teacher I have had at MDC, Attendance isn't mandatory but you don't want to miss class otherwise you miss a lot. She is a PowerPoint teacher, but she actually explains the topic and gives examples rather than monotonously reads the PowerPoint. Very caring and don't listen to the bad reviews because half of them are just repeat spam.
worst MDC professor! dont take her for 1045
DONT take the professor for CHEM1045 at MDC
Hard class but she makes it even harder than it needs to be. Dont take her for 1045
Super hard grader, very strict and not the best at explaining. dont take her for 1045
Attendance IS mandatory but she doesn't teach. She just reads off a powerpoint.
basically has you teach yourself the entire course to yourself
mean and not the best teacher but does give a few extra credit opportunities and provides endless resources on her canvas page to help you -- I think this is because she knows she is not the best teacher
Dr. Holness is amazing, I believe she is the best to take for chemistry and her lectures are great even though the tests are tough, she is caring and kind. She will work with you and provides extra credit. A class you definitely want to take if you are a STEM major as you actually learn and it will pay off, you will get GOOD at chemistry.
I really don't understand why she's getting all of these negative reviews. I'm a DE student and I loved Professor Holness. Pay attention to the lectures and you'll be fine. 4 exams, 12 Participation assignments, homework on Pearson, 1 final, no midterm. Loved her class and will be taking again in CHM1045. Don't listen to the bad reviews!!
Dr. Holness is an amazing professor! The curriculum involves participation assignments, homework, four tests, and a final, but she offers opportunities for extra credit. She is kind, knowledgeable, and open to any questions. I would love to take her again!
The professor is generally helpful, but her exams can be quite challenging. Studying the textbook and attending class are crucial. unstuck ai proved to be a valuable study tool alongside other resources like practice problems.
overall pretty good but it was a difficult class that required a significant amount of memorization. No concept was very difficult just she had us memorize it all and usually did not explain in the best ways. She is pretty caring and will try to help you but can come off mean at times. Her tests are very difficult so STUDY and DO ALL EXTRA CREDIT!!
Dr. Holness was a great professor. She knew chemistry and demonstrated her knowledge through her PowerPoints. If you pay attention, take notes on her PowerPoints, and review the notes throughout the semester, you'll pass. She has four tests and one final, all multiple-choice. She offers many resources for you to practice and prepare for your tests.
As someone who took this course twice, she's a good professor, but chemistry was painful. Homework & participation assignments (10-20%), no midterm, cumulative final (200 points/20%), first two tests (15%) & last two (20%), tutoring extra credit (3%). Pass all the tests with at least a 60% to have a chance of passing, offers plenty of resources.
She knows her stuff but throws way too much content at you. You'll end up cramming the night before and praying not to fail. Exams are brutal, all memorization. She's organized tho, Canvas is stacked, replies fast, and has lots of resources. If you grind hard every day, you might survive.
She's a decent professor, and her lectures are good. However, she makes getting an A in her class way harder than it needs to be. She offers 4 tests and a final, and although I got a 93, 85, 85, and 72 on the exams and a 72 on the final, I still ended up with a B. Take her if you want a semi-decent teacher who makes it unnecessarily to get an A.
She knows the material well and she is very kind. Dont expect a good grade if you dont study. Exams are difficult but if you study you'll do fine. She offers 2 extra credit and there is not a lot of homework. Although you dont get graded for attendance if you dont show you will not pass. Overall she is a great professor and I definitely recommend.
Loved Prof Holness's class. I seriously dont understand why her reviews are so bad considering how good her class is. 1 homework assignment per unit (10), 13 participation assignments, 4 tests and a final + extra credit (3% on final grade). She does use powerpoints but its so fun because she knows what shes talking about can helps us out. Take her!
Dr. Holness is the professor who made me enjoy chemistry for the first time. She answers every question, no matter how ridiculous it may be, and was extremely helpful whenever a student had trouble with a concept. There was plenty of extra credit offered, and the final grade was curved. Fair warning though, you may need to read the textbook.
Don't take her class if your not going to put effort, Amazing teacher with an even more amazing personality. Treats her students professionally but also almost like she's your mother. She cares for everyone equally and offers every opportunity to raise your grade, but the tests are hard. But this is chemistry, eventually u gotta suck it up.
Dr. Holness was very sweet and very knowledgable in her subject. I studied constantly and she was very helpful but I wasnt passing her exams. Unfortunately I had to drop because I knew I was going to fail the class. Theres nothing wrong with Dr. Holness but there is a lot of homework and you have to understand a lot.
