Excellent professor, very enthuastiac about teaching and chemistry, conveys material very well, very helpful and a nice guy.
A brilliant guy, very very passionate about his teachings, and is willing to go over things and help you out, as long as you're willing to ask for it. Probably the best Chem. prof. in UMass.
Chem 121H and 122H were interesting and pretty easy if you pay attention and do the practice exams. Prof. Adams is a really cool guy and he makes chemistry fun.
He's AWESOME!
Always very helpful; gives practice exams that are incredibly similar to the real tests; wants to see his students succeed
He is an amazing teacher. He is very organized. He really tries to make sure that his students understand the material. He always gives practice exams that are very similar to the actual tests!

adams is really smart, but he assumes we know too much.
He is the man.
Is a great teacher and recent winner of the distinguished teachers award. If you have a chance to take his class DO IT!!
I've had Prof. Adams for all 4 classes that he teaches at UMass and he is by far the best teacher I've ever had! He's hard, but very fair and will go to the ends of the Earth to help his students. He's so good, students fight to get into his orgo class!
This man is so enthusiastic about chem its almost scary. He assumes we know a lot more than we do but he is so into it its hard not to be interested.
Adams is the MAN!!, take this class, take the practise test and you willdo fine. He is very smart and loves his job.
Adams is one of the nicest teachers i've ever had, he clearly cares about his students and the subject matter
Adams is quite possibly the nicest professor I have ever had. His class was pretty hard, but he always manages to make the class interesting. The tests are really hard, but if you study hard and do the work, you'll be fine. He's just a great guy!
Great Professor, really passionate about teaching and makes a great effort to make sure students learn.
He talks as fast as he can! It is a hard class that you must work on every day. Yes he is a descent teacher except he goes too fast, if you get lost you're stuck. Asking a question in class seems like your bothering him. People like him because of his smile and energy.
Adams very helpful and willing to help students, and though he sometimes assumes students know more than they do, he'll answer any question and attempt to clear up confusion. He's very nice and very enthusiastic about the subject, so as long as you'r willing to keep up, you're fine.
He's awesome
Professor Adams was extremely enthusiastic about this class. The subject matter is difficult, but he really cares about his students and does everything he can to help them with the material. Adams is by far the best professor I've had here. I'd recommend him to anyone.
He's the best, explains things very clearly, and well he's the best, as long as u attend lectures and do practice exams before exams you should do great
great teacher, loves teaching and always willing to help his students, even comes in on saturdays.
Dont get me wrong, he's a nice guy. But, showing you pictures of complex molecules and telling you stories of your past teaching experience at Harvard and smiling after you introduce a concept or why something happens does not make you a good professor. Reminds you of President Bush's mannerisms when he gives a speech.
A lot of people adore him, and he is nice, but I don't think he was a great teacher. he assumes his classes know too much and the subject material just wasn't that interesting and there weren't many applications for it. I had a hard time staying awake .
Porfessor Adams is the reason I declared Chemistry as a major. He gives everyone the tools they need to pass his class. He does ask that you bust your balls while doing it, but he takes a personal interest in every student he teaches. For a subject like Organic Chemistry, or even Gen Chem, be very glad you have him and not someone else!

fabulous teacher, helpful and always makes things as easy as possible
One of the most amazing professors to ever teach chemistry.
GREAT TEACHER! He goes above and beyond to help you understand the material and get a good grade in the class. He's awesome.
Best Chemistry Teacher EVER!! I wasn't really excited about chemistry, but I changed my major because I loved his class so much!!
he is awesome!!! knows how to teach and explain things when they are confusing!!!
he explains the material very well and he knows what he is talking about. If you come to class, do his assignments and read the textbook, then you are all set. He makes chemistry so much fun. You should take him.
He is an alright teacher. I hated chemistry. The exams were hard because I did not understand much. If you make an appt with him, he is always doing 100 other things and is not concentrated on you.
Excellent teacher. Very articulate, knowledgeable, clear, and enthusiastic about the subject. His tests are well-written and only expect you to know what you learned in class, no surprises.
Very Honorable, Humble and Respectful Professor. He teaches so well, you rarely have to use the book. I'm not saying he is easy but, if you study your ass off, you will ace that class. Attendance isn't manditory, but it is recommended. One of the proudest 'A's I received so far. D. ADAMS IS THE BEST PROF. IF YOU GET HIM, CONSIDER YOURSELF LUCKY!
hands down one of the best professor's ive ever had. adam's is passionate and generous. he expects you to study hard, and definitely rewards you for your effort. his classes were interesing and he explained otherwise tough concepts very clearly. his tests were practically right out of owl and the textbook. take honors chem with adams!!!
easy class
this class is the best .... even though attendance isn't mandatory its fun to go. very good teacher, not too much homework and exams are basic knowledge, no tricks!
lectures are entertaining and easy to follow and tests are fair. highly respectable teacher with a very admirable work ethic. encourages those who step up.
This guy knows his stuff, but more than that he is excellent at teaching it. Anyone should be able to get an A in his class. His lectures are very clear and focused and his tests are straightforward. I would suggest not buying the text because it is available free (electronically) in OWL.
he's a great teacher, very patient and helpful, and knows hsi stuff, and is fair about workloads.
Good teacher, probably the best one in the chemistry department. If you're going to take CHEM 111, then get in his class! OWLs can get excessive and annoying but you basically have the whole semester to do them, although he'll tell you otherwise for the first half of the semester. He's a cool guy.
CLEAR LECTURES OF HARD MATERIAL
Probably one of the fairest professors I've ever had. Hard material, but he lets you bring notecards to exams....I still have a C average haha. He is the reason I go to class because he is incredibly passionate and funny. You MUST go to class and stay on top of readings to even dream of doing well in any chem class.
Professor Adams is the best professor I have had. He is extremely passionate about teaching and wants you to do well. The material is hard so go to all the lectures.
After 2 semesters with Prof. Adams I can honestly say I want more. He's been around the world and back, and all he wants is for you to understand chemistry. If you like chemistry now, you'll love it after your semester spent with Adams. He's an awesome guy and wants you to succeed while having fun. Take him if you can!
Be ready to do some work but he is one of the best teachers on campus. So lively and dedicated, makes you excited about chemistry, and can tie in everyday life and sometimes have side conversations in class without ruining the flow. A+ for Prof. Adams
Adam's was a really great professor and definitely wanted his students to succeed. He is extremely passionate about the subject and the class isn't awful to sit through. However, the exams are pretty hard and you need to put in a lot of effort to do well.
Adam's was a really great professor and definitely wanted his students to succeed. He is extremely passionate about the subject and the class isn't awful to sit through. However, the exams are pretty hard and you need to put in a lot of effort to do well.
This guy is the man. He's lectures are good and test's aren't bad at all. He let's you use note cards on tests which is really helpful. If you are going to take Chemistry 111 make sure it is with this guy. I have heard terrible things from other teachers.
Awesome! He's very straight forward. Go to class and you will do just fine. He allows you to use notecards for tests. super nice and CLEAR about the material. Definitely take ADAMS!!
Probably the best (and one of the hardest) teachers at Umass. Don't even need the book- everything comes from lecture. His exams are becoming more and more challenging, so be ready to study...alot. Great teacher, great guy. Loves the a-bomb like no other.
Adams taught this class well. His tests were fair and he explained everything clearly in lecture. Read the text because sometimes he likes to pull stuff out from the book for the tests.
I think he's the BEST prof. for this class. Chem 111 students with other profs. tell me and their profs make no sense but Adams is so clear and enthusiastic, makes u want to pay attention, goes over what you need, and is reasonable. Do all the OWLS they boost your grade so much he also lets u bring a note card to exams, exams based on prac. exams
Great Guy and teacher, however I feel like he went all over the board with his lectures, like he would jump from subject to subject, and his tests were a beast, they are similar to his practice tests. If you are going take the class I would not take it with other demanding classes such as bio because the tests usually are on the same exact date...
This guy is awesome. Great teacher, really engaging, clear lectures. He also has a lot of interesting historical tidbits. His tests are HARD, despite the use of note cards though.
the best at umass! his enthusiasm is infectious and he makes it Really interesting! it's hard but important and he takes time to answer ANY questions well, couldn't ask for better! Cami is the best SI ever, TA Nitai wants to help but often confuses
This class is HARD, so go to class and study for the exams. Adams is the man though, he's hilarious and know what he's talking about.
What an awesome chem teacher! He wants you to be interested and focussed, so goes the extra mile to be entertaining. Most people find the material though, so do the OWLs on time and go to class-take notes. Prof. Adams will do the rest!
Very enthusiastic teacher who is passionate about chemistry. Pretty clear instructor.
easy to understand, makes class interesting
Great teacher, great man. Tends to oversimplify things but makes the material easier in doing so
Amazing teacher, very clear. Sometimes oversimplifies it and makes you feel stupid, but he makes sure you learn the material.
i died. very difficult. only take the class if you took honors or AP chem in high school... then you'll do fine.
Very nice guy and dedicated. His tests are usually based on his lectures and owl problems. Although the material was hard for me to grasp (and I did horrible on the exams), I learned a lot from him. Better than other chem teachers here at UMass!!
He is helpful if you ask. Study alot!
Professor Adams in the best professor at Umass. He is extremely clear when explaining content in class and her practically tells you what is on his tests. Apart from being extremely knowledgeable in the field, Adams also has a great sense of humor, which makes going to class extremely easy. If you are able to take Adams class then do it. No questio
Adams is one of the best professors at UMass. His tests were challenging, but not difficult. He always tries to help everyone understand all of the material. I definitely recommend him.
Adams is unfair when it comes time to test taking. He gives you only an hour for an exam, and it's during the time you have in class. You're cramped in, and rushed. I've made numerous careless errors because he's all about getting stuff done quickly. For this class, you've REALLY got to know your stuff.
Awesome professor. I didn't do so well in his class but not due to his teaching. Loves chemistry and teaching it. Very funny as well. You have to study and do OWLs (lots of OWLs) but the workload isn't excessive.
Great teacher. Took complex ideas and made them understandable. Also made concepts seem intuitive.
awesome teacher. there's no PRS, attendance is not required. he basically reviews the material he assigns for homework. if you read the book & take notes, you will do fine. there are lots of help sessions, and he posts practice exams almost identical to the real test. very easy to get a good grade if you do the work.
The best teacher I have ever had. He took complicated chemistry and simplified it as much as possible. I was able to get an A in the course by simply going to class, doing the owls, and reviewing old exams... his lectures were so helpful I did not have to open the book one time
He is a good teacher, but he is very disorganized and sometime appears confused. You should definitely go to his TA for extra help. You need to know the material and go to class, often to pass the test. Also learn how to finish a test in an hour because in his class, he gives TOO MANY questions for an hour test.
I LOVE DAVID ADAMS. he is so cute and funny that i enjoyed every class i went to. as much as i loved him i hated the chemistry aspect of the class and even though he is clear its hard to take in all he says in the time period. the test are hard but he is very fair. you get a cheat sheet. he opens owls back up before every test. labs are a joke
Adams is really animated and talks about chemistry like hes talking about god. He goes off on random stories which are funny and still apply. His notes are clear and easy to take and he doesn't mind going into further explanation. DONT BUY THE BOOK, he has an ebook link on his website. Do the practice tests and the OWLS. They help alot.
One of the best professor in the university. A must take class for all gen-eds and science majors. Take this class. Go to his lectures and do well on labs. There's TA and SI session for help. He gives out practice test. What more could you ask for?
tests were hard and there was never enough time. He hurries through lectures and they're sometimes hard to follow if the material is new to you. Great guy, just made me feel stupid too often. The course if probably easier if you have a semi-strong background in chem
best teacher at umass
Gives a little extra credit. Tries hard to make everything easy and clear.
David Adams is a fantastic teacher. He makes material super understandable and his HW and tests are always fair.
Great professor. Excellent at explaining hard topics. I really feel like I know the material now
compared to others that have taken his class, i for one didnt enjoy having him as a professor. he has a wonderful personality and makes class enjoyable but the amount of hw and assignments can get a bit too crazy. i took his class twice for COMP 2 & 3 and i felt he wasnt as organized when it came to lesson plans and spacing out each hw assignment.
Computing II. The topics he teaches are difficult, the exams (3 total) are difficult, the assignments (11 total) are difficult, and the lab is extraordinarily difficult. He explains topics well, but it is a challenge to take good notes in his class. He seems to have unrealistic expectations of his students. 80% of the class didn't finish the lab...
Amazing Computing professor, great guy and very funny. Easily accessible outside of class, and promptly responds to emails. Great analogies are used regularly, and is ready to go the extra mile for those who don't get it right away. Attention is required throughout the class, because the curriculum builds on itself. Highly recommended.
Always enjoyed going to class, he codes along with you so if you have a laptop it's very useful. Clear expectations, and he teaches the material well
Highly recommend. He's great at explaining things and he does live coding. Before each exam, he tells you exactly what kinds of questions to expect. Also, he tells funny stories from time to time.
Great professor, interactive, wish he ran labs (obviously cant, but itd be nice).
He is a great professor that makes a tough subject easy. I'd highly recommend him.
This class was hard, but Adams make it enjoyable regardless. He's always making sure you learn, if you need help, go talk to him, he's always opened to helping. Not really easy to earn a good grade since he expects you to put in the effort for the course, so slacking isn't a good option. No attendance, but why skip on one of the best CS profs?
Adams is one of the best CS professors at UML. Take computing I-IV with him if you can. He's very helpful in office hours and records all lectures which you can watch later online (very helpful). Grading was based on HW packets, quizzes which were questions from HW packets, exams, and programming assignments in which you have unlimited attempts.
