TAKE HIM!!Its his first semester teaching at uml and he's AWESOME. He's like a 6 on helpfulness with grading and he tries to understand us as students
Awesome Professor. Very helpful in class and explains assignments/quizzes/exams. Easy to understand what he is talking about and he definitely knows what he is talking about.
Great teacher. Brilliant lectures, he'll explain everything crystal clear. Do some reading, do the HW and packets and you'll be fine. Highly recommend him
Very good professor. Quizzes and homework is easy and he will help any way, and very clearly. Exams are a bit tougher, he likes to throw curve balls on them. Study and takes notes you have no reason not to succeed in this class.
Excellent professor. Actually wants students to learn. Quizzes are the same questions as the packets. He gives you the answers to the packet in class. Exams are easy if you are paying attention in class. Knows exactly what he's talking about, he has a Ph.D in the subject.
Dr. Adams is exceptional. He goes out of his way to be helpful and available, and his office has a perennial line of people waiting to see him. He goes above and beyond to help you exceed. He wants you to learn the material, and he notably attempts to make you want to learn the material.
Dr.David Adams is really amazing prof which I have ever seen in my life. he knows how to teach students and he devotes to help students. The home work, and the quiz are really easy, but the exam is a little bit hard. if you read the text book, you will get "A" . I highly recommend you to take comp I with him.
I already knew most of what I needed to know to get through this class, but it never hurts to learn it all over again. I even learned about some data structures I've never used before. He's definitely an engaging professor and was always willing to help.
This guy is super funny, and does a great job at teaching the material. I've already taken comp1, but i felt i needed a refresher, and i definitely was still picking up things in his class. You must attend class, 4th absence is failure. There is "a lot" of work. You have a coding assignment after every class, but they arent that hard Take this guy!
Fantastic teacher! Funny and informative! As long as you pay attention in class (which isn't hard to do at all) you'll pass. Homework almost every class day but they take about 15-30 minutes each. I highly recommend taking his classes if you can.
His Exams are to long!! In Exams he gives to write 3 big programs and other crazy questions!! You need to do all this in 50 min!! I never had time to finish those! He never gives sample exams. His exams are hard! He need to leave us to study and to understand what we are doing! He needs to calm down. I don' recommend him.
I think Umass Lowell need to give students the opportunity to choose another professor for computer 1 not just David Adams. He act like is a nice professor but his not. He is a Tough Grader and his exam are to long for 50 min. His class is like your doing 2 other classes. Don't take him for computer 1.
Great professor. Assignments are a lot but can be submitted unlimited time. Need tons of work but will let you know what you are learning. New materials are challenging but I think it will be the same for all beginner. Exams are easier than daily assignment and much more straight forward than program assignment.
He is a nice guy but gives too much work and his test are hard and his final is hard
he's a passionate and exceptional explainer. Has more office hours than any other prof. The problem is that his exams are RIDICULOUS & the class is structured as a weed out. Nice guy but don't take if you don't have to. I was in the tutoring center at least 3 times a week & still felt that exams were unrealistic. 55 min to complete a 75 min exam.
One of UMass Lowell's finest professors. Even if you're not in his class, Dr. Adams will take the time to help you out if you're lost with a concept, let alone the excellent attention he gives *HIS* students. He teaches fair classes; hard at times, but extremely fair. He provides you with all the resources you'll need to thrive; bring your drive.
Professor Adams' lectures are very helpful in learning C++. Sometimes it felt like a lot of class time was wasted. Tests are long, but if you study you should be all set. Assignments were interesting, but could be better. If you show up for class, you'll be all set.
Dr. Adams is really helpful and always willing to help you with anything. He is very talented and intelligent because he does all the code in lecture from scratch which many professors cannot do. His exams are tough, but fair. I've never programmed before, but Dr. Adams does an excellent job of introducing newbies like myself to programming.
Gives alot of work. Very helpful, nice, and funny. Great professor i would recommend. He does give alot of work but its very easy. Finish on the day its assigned, because he just does it for you in class for you. if anything he'll let you turn in late work and even retry as many time to get a perfect score. 10/10 would take his class again :3
David Adams is a great professor and passionate about this course and Computer Science. Wish I could have him as a professor again. It is a pretty tough course but he makes the larger concepts simpler to understand. He is also very lenient with his due dates. Course material leads up to test and they all correlate well.
Dr. Adams is the most inspirational professor that I've had while at UMass Lowell. He presents material in a funny and relatable way so that you really understand it. His homework policy is great too, giving you plenty of time to turn in a product you will be proud of. His exams are tough, but fair. If you are a CS major, you want to take him.
Excellent professor. Encourages students to interrupt him for ANY question! Clear Explanations! Will also assist students outside class, and arrange time if the student can't meet him during office hours. Very dedicated in teaching concepts in the best possible way! Don't think! Take him!! Definitely signing up for COMP III with him.
Best teacher I have ever had.
He's amazing. He comes up with the best explanations/analogies for concepts.
Dr. Adams is very fair professor, If he has gone over it, it could be on the test. Lectures are very nice, as he codes in front of students and explains what is happening. Fun teacher that loves video games, feels very relatable and understands students. HW is very important, Did not pass since I did none of them, Regrets. But great teacher.
He really understands people's situations and gives you flexibility to succeed while also clearly teaching the subject. Never enjoyed a computing lecture until Dr. Adams. Take him for every class you can.
Dr. Adams is definitely a very good teacher. The material in the class is dense and hard to understand at times, but he lets you ask as many questions as you want in class, and he is also accessible during office hours. If you genuinely try as hard as you can, you will do very well. I am definitely taking Computing II with Dr Adams next semester.
Dadams is an amazing professor. He really cares about his students. The first day of class he gives you his cell phone number and responds to any call or text. There is a lot of homework, but it is easy homework. You can submit it as many times as you want to get 100. The exams are work, but very fair.
Amazing professor. Really makes learning the material easy. Extremely lenient about due dates. Explains things very well and is open to questions. Entertaining lectures, review sessions for exams were incredibly useful. Highly recommended.
I love Dr. Adams. This is the second time I took his class (Computing 1 and 2). He really cares and is available to answer your questions. He really wants you to learn and will do what he can to help. If you can take him, do so! There is a textbook but it is optional and he does not really use it.
One of the best professors I've had, his courses are the cornerstone of CS education at Lowell. If you are serious about your CS education, get into his courses. His lectures are excellent and he succeeds in creating metaphors to explain abstract concepts. Fun, informative, cares about his students.
Great professor. He gives you the tools you need to succeed in his class. I had very little programming experience but I did not have much trouble keeping up with assignments. Show up to class and watch his lectures captures. I did not need to take notes. His lectures are engaging. I also learned to solve a Rubik's Cube, so that was cool! 10/10
David Adams is the best. He's accessible for help whenever you need it. His lectures are hilarious and worth attending. You write a lot of code, but you can submit it multiple times. Show up to class, listen, and do the dailies and you can get an easy A.
I've taken Dr. Adams for three classes, and I wish he taught all of my required courses. Not only does he know the material inside and out, but he is gifted at explaining and simplifying concepts. He has a passion to see his students succeed, and gives plenty of opportunity to do so. Don't take COMP 1, 2 or 3 with anyone else.
He is a good professor, put a a lot of effort into explaining concepts. Due to his personal life, he has not been fully at attention with explanations on some assignments but hope other classes will improve with each semester.
He's the best teacher for Computer Science. A true master of his craft. He knows the material inside and out, and is always willing to sit down with you and explain anything you might not understand. I wish he taught more of the required classes.
The best computing professor! His lectures are always entertaining! He is available many times out of class and will take the time to help you with whatever the class is working on. He lets you resubmit programming assignments as many times as you need and the due date for all of those aren't enforced. I wish he taught more computing classes!
Basically one of the best profs at UML. That being said, his class isn't an easy A - he makes you work for it, but really motivates his students to actually care about the material. I was on the fence about switching from a graphic design major, but after ONE CLASS with Adams, I took the plunge into comp sci. He is hilarious & highly respected.
Work load was unreal. The way this class is structured is unrealistic. I feel his teaching style is really overhyped. He was rude when I asked him for help with assignments and often went very off topic in class, not accurately and clearly explaining concepts. He has an account on here so my rating will be deleted, but if its not, I warned you.
One of the best CS professors at UML. Take him for COMP I-IV if you can. For COMP I, you get unlimited attempts on programming assignments, and he's very helpful during office hours. Material on quizzes/tests is very relevant to lectures and homework. Records all lectures (very helpful). You must be self-motivated to do well as with any CS class.
Wow. Just wow. Dr. Adams takes an admittedly hard topic and makes it absolutely relatable to everyday life.
He is an excellent professor and mentor. I highly recommend taking class with him.
Dr. Adams is amazing! He's an excellent teacher, and he has an obvious passion for teaching and helping his students learn. I'm no computer expert, not even close, but Dr. Adams saw this and still helped me succeed in Computing II. He's also available whenever you need him, no joke. If you need a computing course, take Dr. Adams's class.
Adams made computing 1 a course I was actually excited to attend and do work for. He is entertaining and explains the material. The best thing about Adams is his accessibility outside of class. He is almost always available on discord to help. He also allows for students to fix their grade by providing a lot of extra credit opportunities.
Best teacher I have ever had. Amazing engaging and clear lectures. You will learn more than you could possible imagine if you apply yourself and do as Dr Adams asks. Funny lectures too, where engagement is encouraged. Don't slack in the labs, or your grade will suffer however.
Dr. Adams is arguably the best professor in the CS department and for good reason. Even in an online environment Dr. Adams will help you understand the hard concepts that computing 2 entails. If you're a CS student and do not take Dr. Adams for computing 1 or 2. You are doing yourself a disservice
Dr. Adams is an amazing professor. Although I unfortunately only got to experience his class online, his lectures were still super engaging. It's clear that he really cares about the success of each and every student. I decided to take a CS class on a whim as a pre-med major, and after a few classes with Dr. Adams I decided to switch my major to CS
Dr. Adams is an amazing professor. When it's time to teach, he makes sure students understand the topic really well. Usually, if the topic is very heavy, he gives a story to lighten it up and make it easier for you to follow. He also uses a lot of analogies to certain ideas regarding computer science. Homework is easy and you have unlimited tries.
Computing I Several programs that are due at the end of the semester. Book is optional, he is very accessible out side of class (Discord). 1 con: does not have recent CS experience.
Had him for the first time over the summer for Comp3 and his approach was not what I was used to. Despite that, his lectures are AMAZING. Full of analogies and 'stories' that are not only entertaining, but really prepare you for the exams and the assignments help it reinforce concepts even further. Also allows for unlimited resubmissions.
Dr. Adams is arguably the best professor I've encountered at Umass Lowell. Extremely knowledgeable, passionate, and as long as you put in the work, you will do great in his class. The guy is a genius to explain hard topics in a way that everyone can understand. The class is definetely not easy, so be prepared to spend countless hours on projects.
Fantastic professor. HIGHLY recommend you take any course with him if he is available as one of the professors.
This dude. Anyone else for computing 2 is garbage. If you don't get Adams, you're basically screwed. Make sure you get him first.
Excellent professor. Made topics look easier before going right into them. Highly recommended.
Take his class. Do it. I wouldn't have stayed with CS if it wasn't for him. His lectures are funny and engaging, and he's always available on discord- I've sent him questions at 10 pm and he's replied within 10 minutes. Class isn't super easy, it's challenging but very doable and prepares you well for future classes. Easier would be a disservice.
Dr Adams is NECESSARY for comp 1 and 2. His amazing lectures drill the material into your head and you'll have a great understanding of concepts which will help you moving forward. His homeworks are a bit tough for comp 2 but hes very easy to access outside of class and will help you as much as possible. I wish he taught more CS courses.
Humorous professor. Does not use slide shows to explain concepts. Few examples. Expects you to get concepts via code demonstrations and drawings, and asks for exact definitions on the exam. (might be b/c it's a hard class) Graders will take points off for the smallest things and leave poor feedback. Has a discord server for questions and is active.
Great guy, lectured well, cares about his students, and is very active on discord. I learned a ton and would absolutely take it again. The best CS class I've ever taken.
Amazing teacher
DAVID ADAMS IS THE MOST GOATED TEACHER EVER. He brings so much energy into his teaching and makes it hard not to pay attention. His assignments are well designed so that you will learn a lot by completing them. He also is accessible due to having a discord server for questions. He's a super cool guy and I will def be taking him again for Comp 2.
He is a super funny guy and has a real passion for the class. The best part is that he has a discord server that you can hit him up on all the time. He truly wants everyone to succeed. He will also tell you every type of problem that you might see on an exam so you can be ready for it. He has office hours which are very helpful.
For COMP1010 & 1020, if you can get him GET HIM. He even gives you his number and responds shockingly fast.
David Adams is a good professor by all means. He is very engaging but that is also his greatest weakness. If you are easily distracted when anyone goes off the main content or want to be given a straightforward definition of advanced computer science and the like, I actually advise looking at other professors as he explains them with "fun" stories.
Great Professor
I took him for comp3, his class is a bit harder than other professors, but you will learn a lot through that, so I'm glad that I did, now I have projects that I can put on my resume. But like I said, it's not an easy class, so you have to put effort into it. Dr.Adams is really funny and did a really good job at teaching, explaining.
Lectures had a lot of stories and analogies that made it very easy to understand class content, not to mention entertaining. Very open to questions during class and easily accessible on Discord. More assignments and assessments than other sections of the course, but none of it is busywork and it all helps to understand the topics.
really easy going prof, key to success is do hw packets and assignments. codes in class so vv helpful to follow along. explains concepts in a easy manner and always repeats most important parts over and over. lots of extra credit and recorded lectures to review.
Wisdom, humor, and intelligence. These are the words of how I would describe this professor. You MUST take him for classes since he is the epitome of Computer Science. He will even give you funny analogies when explaining code to help you understand. Just a warning though, if he catches you cheating, then he will never speak to you again.
If you ever have the opportunity to take David Adams then take that class. You will not regret it.
This man is an absolute legend. Lectures are entertaining and teach CS in a way that's easy to follow. Textbooks are recommended, but generally optional. Also has a custom Discord server for all his classes, making him very accessible outside of class. Take his class above anyone else if you can; you will not regret it.
Great professor for his enthusiasm towards programming. Computing II is not an easy class by any means unless you're a natural programmer. Some questions on the exams are a bit of a surprise but not super difficult. He gives a lot of partial credit. Homework grading is wonky at times. A great professor teaching a mediocre class. Not his fault. :)
Dr. Adams is hands down the best professor I've had at UML. Lectures are super engaging. Comp 2 is hard, so the homework can be challenging, but he is very accessible outside of class. Topics on the exams are explicitly shared in review classes- very few surprises. Adams is a must-take for CS.
The reason I would recommend Dr.Adams is that he makes the curriculum, and therefore is the best at preparing you for exams since he actually knows what is going to be on it. He makes concepts easy to understand by explaining them through stories, and while he may not be the most personable during office hours he is absolutely your best bet for cs.
Good professor but jumps to conclusions to quickly.
W professor
Dr. Adams is a great guy, but the course framework moved way too fast for my liking. Lectures are often led by only 1-2 students who know all the material already, leaving little to no room for the other 30+ students to ask genuine questions. Other comp II classes teach the same material, the "honors" aspect of the course is misleading.
Very respectable and thorough knowledge of C and teaches it well through analogies and stories, writing code in class. All other comp 1010 classes to my knowledge use Dr. Adam's homework assignments. Honors section is the same homework-wise however Dr Adams gives better understanding and precise definition of the actual workings of C. 10/10 prof
He's well educated in what he's teaching, but he assigns way too much homework. It's about three coding homework assignments per week. At first, these were simple and didn't take too long. All of a sudden, they take hours to complete and is incredibly frustrating. It's "no due date" but keep assigning more and more so it's difficult to catch up.
Dr. Adams is the greatest professor of all time. Adams has made me laugh on multiple occasions while giving the goofiest yet most effective lecture on not the easiest material. His teaching methods are the best for developing an understanding of collegiate computing. Don't cheat your way through and you will actually learn a lot.
Dr. Adams is a great professor, and I enjoyed his classes. However, I wish he were more available online. When I would ask questions, I would often get the response "go back and watch the lecture", instead of a simple answer.
dr. adams is clearly passionate about computer science and it shows in his lectures, but i really didn't like how he often used (sometimes convoluted) metaphors instead of outright explaining concepts. overall, it's easy to do well in this course---homework assignments don't have deadlines and dr. adams is easy to reach outside of class.
Took Dr. Adams for the 6 week course in Comp 2. Decent and fun guy who teaches good but his graders can be harsh graders sometimes. No late penalties though so that's good. Beware the lab section though, you WILL fall behind if you do not work promptly! Was tougher because it was shorter but you will definitely learn a thing or 2 from Dr. Adams.
Just take his class if u have the option, he's incredible
Great professor, his stories are extremely motivational, and teaches very well.
Amazing professor, should be your first choice.
Dr. Adams is a very engaging lecturer, is clearly passionate about subject matter and pedagogy. Exams and grading were very fair.
