He has a world full of knowlege in his head so he doesn't tell you everything, just fleshes out stuff in the book. He's fascinating and funny and students sometimes stay after just to hear more of his "story telling". Sometimes you feel like he was there! 2 Essay question tests and book review.
I took three History classes with Mr.Armontuout he is fantastic, knowledgable and intresting.
Mr. Armontrout is an excellent history professor. I've taken many history classes, and his was my favorite. He is very interesting and I've learned a lot from him.
Mr. Armontrout is a great teacher! He is really funny, his lectures are full of interesting side notes not found in the book, and he is very helpful.
I've taken him for HST 201 and now I'm taking him for HST 202. He's a sincere and thoughtful teacher that is passionate about history. His lectures are the antithesis of a boring lecture. Nearly half my class followed him from HST 201 to HST 202. That tells you just how great he really is. I *highly* reccommend him.
Each class is a lecture and sometimes films. He's a great teacher who is eager to help and explain. His lectures are funny and interesting. Three essay tests, but you get a study guide before each one that helps a lot. One book report. Fairly easy class and definitely worth it!
Not the most exciting class, it's pure lecture, but Mr. Armontrout knows History and does throw in some funny jokes here and ther. If you are going to take History take it from him.
David's classes have inspired me to major in history.
great teacher. i love his stories about presidents. he knows what he's talking about and is a great inspiration for fellow history enthusiasts.
Have taken the entire 200 sequence with him as my prof. Love the man's approach to teaching history --- the broad scope of the major factors of the time period. Knowledgeble and quotable. Very easy to get along with. Fosters loyalty from his students --- virtually everyone I know has taken him before, or intends to take him again.
Really nice guy who loves history. He makes the occasional lame joke, but I will take another class from him. Highly recomended
Loved him made me actually like history lecture style is great you have to get used to it but it doesn't take very long took 3 classes from him :) if you like history you'll like David
Fantastic! You would be hard-pressed to find a better professor.
not bad
Absolute awesome teacher!!! Very knowledgeable and interesting to listen too. Get's into the lectures and has a very nice pace and answers all questions thoroughly. You can't go wrong with this instructor!!
I learned a lot in this class. The testing was essay format, which I enjoyed. It actually gave me the opportunity to show what I retained instead of showing off my coloring skills. I found David funny, and appreciated that he seemed excited about the subject. He tells you why things happened not just when and where. I would take his classes again!
I took 102 and 103 from Professor Armontrout last year, and he is my favorite teacher ever. I love his class so much, and I think everyone at PCC should take it.
I love Armontrout. He is a great, passionate teacher who has increased my interest in History dramatically. His lectures are well prepared though he can veer from the outline and get sidetracked, which can be confusing. Very helpful, very easy grader. Tests are essay format, But they are a great way to show your knowledge. My favorite PCC teacher.
Great teacher! Absolutely FILLED w/ knowledge! You can tell he really enjoys history & teaching. David adds a ton of info to what you get from reading the text. Tells you exactly what will be on exams so you know exactly what to study, no surprises. If you enjoy history or hate it, take this guy, either way you'll end up happy with the experience.
Armontrout makes me want to teach history.
Knows the subject well, very interested in the subject and is always willing and enthusiastic to help. Has a somewhat cheesy sense of humor that keeps the class entertained. :) Sometimes gets carried away on tangents. Not nit-picky in grading.
Great teacher, entertaining lecturer. Highly recommend.
He makes the class interesting and is very knowledgeable. If you like essay style tests instead of multiple choice this is the class for you.
Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
Hilarious and engaging. Never a dull moment, especially if you enjoy puns and sarcasm. Encouraging, helpful and passionate about his job. Highly recommended. I love history now because of this professor.
Engaging teacher. He is very understanding and flexible in his grading of assignments. Class involved 3 exams with essays and a book report. The subject matter can be dry, but he generally managed to keep things interesting with his knowledge and enthusiasm. If you're going to take history at PCC, I highly recommend him.
Take this teacher for history and he'll rock your brain. Best teacher I've ever had.
Good teacher, can be boring at times but others he makes it fun, he likes playing music from the time period he teaches and lots of documentaries, overall he is a good teacher and i would recommend this class to anyone
Professor Armontrout is an amazing teacher. He is an excellent story teller and delivers his lectures with attention grabbing techniques. I laugh often at his sense of humor, all of these things are what is needed for a history teacher in order to hold my attention. I took him 3 terms in a row, on purpose. He is kind and caring. What a great guy!
grading can be unreasonable
Super nice guy, very passionate about his subject. He can be somewhat boring, but it's an easy and interesting class. There was only one quiz, a mid-term, and a final, all of which were in-class essays. If you aren't good at memorizing a lot of material and/or writing essays from scratch, don't take this class. I would take him again.
Excellent teacher. He has a quirky sense of humor (which I dig) and is passionate about the material he teaches. I've taken 2 of his classes and would've taken a third, but unfortunately, he's taking the summer off. I definitely will be looking him up in the fall.
What a nice teacher!!!:)
Grades are based on a book report, and also in class short answer and essay tests. Armontrout is nice, smart, funny, and flexible with due dates. He introduces information a variety of ways. He writes all the information you need to know on the board. I never had to use the book because his lecture was so thorough. Do not buy the book! Seriously!
very good teacher
just started his history 101, and totally dig it. he's a funny and passionate prof. very engaging
I followed him 101-103. He is fantastic and sweet, very personable and a gentleman. Wonderful teacher, straight up about assignments and is willing to go the extra mile for you if you want extra help. He truly cares about history and is a natural at it. He wants his students to love history as well, and he uses great resources to enhance classes.
An excellent prof! Thoroughly knowledgeable and engaging. Only thing I didn't like was too many History Channel vids in class-I don't wanna take on debt for something I can watch on YouTube
Great professor. If you show up to class, take notes, and pay attention, you will do well. I only took this class because something else was cancelled and I needed something that would fit into my schedule to keep me at 12 credit hours. I fully expected to hate every second, but I loved it and plan to take the whole 100 level series from him.
This teacher brings the characters of history alive. It is like watching a play every classs. He is simply delightful. Extremely professional.
a wondeful professor. He has a knownledge base that is amazing and his stories about historic figures keeps the class fun
Awesome prof! I had zero interest prior to his class but I swear he's got me comparing moddern society to ancient greeks. He brings the subject to life for you, and the easy tests and nonexistent homework takes the pressure and fear away. He wants you to care about the subject, not memorize dates and names. Wonderful charming and helpful.
History is definitely not my cup of tea, so this class was tough for me. Nothing about David really kept me captivated. Tests are all "essay" form...no multiple choice...That part was challenging, as I'm not a good impromptu essay writer. I don't think I'll be recommending Armontrout to anyone, but remember my bias.
Mr.Armontrout made this class great for me. Everything you need to know is covered in class, I really only used the book twice for about 15 minutes.the tests are essay format but he will let you know a week prior what the essay topics are. in these essays if you use dates and are wrong he will correct them but they don't affect your grade.
I've NEVER liked history. After taking Armontrouts class though i can no longer say that. Going to his class was like going to story time! He's so enthusiastic about history that you cant really help but to be as well. There was movies and he writes out an outline for every class that makes note taking easy. He and his class were entertaining
Just completed my second course with this instructor. I would highly recommend him. He's intelligent, humorous and has a passion for the subject that is infectious. His lectures are engaging and the course work consists of three in class essays and one book report. Book use is minimal as everything is covered in class.
Currently in this class. I really like Armontrout! He is very understanding, nice n funny. He lectures the whole class period, be prepared to take notes. But it's pretty easy to skip out on class and copy notes later on from a friend. Iv had one test (essay form) so far, he tells you what questions will be on the test before hand so you can study.
Armontrout is as interesting as he is charming. The essay tests are quite easy if you pay attention and the lectures are fascinating. He is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about history - you can't help but be intrigued! Prepare yourself for adorable, cheesy jokes. I plan on taking lots more from him!
He is a nice guy, however his teaching style is not for me. Hard to understand lectures. Tests are essays. Lots of things that are ask on the tests are not in the text. I find it is hard to study for his tests.
Easily my favourite class. He cares about his students understanding, not just memorizing facts. When I missed a class and emailed him to apologize, he responded with the outline from the lecture I missed- super nice and unexpected! Will be taking more of his classes in the future.
Such a great teacher. If you like listening to history told as a story take this class. Almost made me want to change my major to history :)
I love Mr. Armontrout His class easily grew to be my favorite class and teacher at PCC hes very knowledgeable and passionate about what hes teaching, its alot more like sitting down and having him tell you a really long , exciting story All you need to do is show up & pay attention and you should have no problem passing the very few tests he gives.
David Armontrout is one of those few professors that I feel can change people's lives and if not, at least his lectures are nothing short of wonderful. You can tell he's passionate and knowledgeable about his subject and his expectations of you as a student are very clear indeed.
Makes History interesting and is very animated, funny and interesting. Almost wanted to change my major! Great Teacher!
Grade consisted of 3 exams and a 3pg book review (the book is only 70pg's long, super easy read). Exams are generally a couple of ID's and a 2pg essay on a choice of topics he provides you with the class prior. VERY easy to study for. Provided an excellent outline on the board every morning, making note-taking simple. Attend class, get an A.
This course is extremely easy.. 3 tests and a book summary are the basis of your grade. I thought this was strange until about two weeks in.. Armontrout's lectures are powerful and concise; you'll find yourself wanting to attend class. His interest in history is contagious.. Definitely taking him again. But seriously, don't buy the textbook.
His classes are amazing! you want to attend class, and you can tell he is very passionate about his history. He doesn't assign much, but the exams are where you must study study study. Fun class, and overall great teacher.
Hilarious. Enjoys teaching, discussions, humor. VERY pleasant and caring person. If you need anything, he's there. Period.
Class consists of showing up, listening to his passionate humorous take on history, and an occasional test. I believe there were 3 tests including the final, and one paper due that he kindly assigns the first day of class. Showing up was crucial because the tests follow his outlines. I never even opened the book, just went off his notes.
David became a teacher to teach history, so you'll get a Historian's perspective on history. Very captivating to listen to. The tests should be very easy if you attend the classes and listen to the lectures. His classes are fantastic introductions to history. Highly recommended.
I've taken all Mr. Armontrout's classes. The last one was China--really enjoyed it and learned a lot. I've never know anyone who knows more about history--all history! If you take his class--you won't be sorry. He's what I consider a wonderful teacher who enjoys his work.
Mr. Armontrout is a true history master.
I have taken 6/7 courses he teaches and I can stress enough how much I have enjoyed having him as a teacher. He gives some truly amazing lectures on history, and he is always willing to make time for you if you need it. The courses are relatively easy (if you listen) but you really get a lot out of it, you wont regret being in his class.
Solid professor. He really cares about his students and his subject. He is by far the best instructor I have had at PCC and I look forward to many more classes with him.
Mr. Hall is easily one of the best math teachers I've had. There is a quiz every other class, but you get to talk to anyone in the class and it's not difficult if you did the homework. There are only three tests, a calc and no calc portion. Do the homework:you turn in three(one each test)but you don't know which three. 10/10 would recommend
I chose to write this review because we recently had a substitute, and multiple students stepped forward to thank the sub for his energy and coherence, while also expressing frustration and disappointment with Prof. Armontrout's teaching style. His lectures seem loose, disorganized and poorly planned. I will not take any more classes with him.
Lectures are a bit boring and scattered, but he is overall a very funny guy. He doesn't assign homework, which of course has it's pros and cons.
Like the above tags he grades on few things. Mainly 4-7 page paper (have all term to do it), two midterms that are basically written essays, the final which is the same as the midterms, and attendance. Funny guy and good and teaching his course, but he needs to update his grading. He writes A, B, C, Etc. on your paper so there's no point system
You don't need the text book for class if you show up to lecture and take good notes. there's only the mids, final and a single paper to get grades from but study guides are given and the tests aren't hard. If you can't do well in this class then its you.
Easy class- take one quiz(15%), a mid(25%), and a final(30%). Only other assignment outside of tests is a book analysis 3-5 pgs. (20%) Attendance is (10%) of grade so basically: Show up for lectures, study for tests, and read the book. Simple and straight forward.
Armontrout is a legend. Everyone at SE has taken at least one class from him and has nothing but good things to say. While true, it would be difficult not to get an 'A', that's not the point. He really cares about the subject he teaches and it shows. Do yourself a favor, fulfill your general studies credits with David.
Since his class is only once a week, there will always be lectures. He is very thorough and makes it more interesting for us to remember the important events in history that is still relevant today. Honestly, just review his lectures to prepare for the quiz and you will pass. His classes can be taken in no necessary order.
No homework, lectures all day long. No surprise tests. Attendance is 10% of your grade. Get ready to take notes.
I have a better understanding of why history is so important after taking Davids class. I plan on taking more. I have taken three classes so far. David is the best of the Best.
Very knowledgeable and gives entertaining and thorough lectures. There was only a quiz, a mid-term, the final exam and a document analysis, all of which was fair. Highly suggest!
Prof. Armontrout is a really great professor. He provides really clear and thorough notes, so as long as you show up to all the classes (if you miss one, you're missing a lot of info), pay attention, and take notes, you're guaranteed to pass. He also gives pretty easy and straight-forward assignments.
The class was all lectures and the only assignments were three exams and a film extra credit. If you show up and learn the history enough to write a comprehensive short essay on it it's honestly a simple class. The lectures get very hard to listen to and often he goes off track and is unorganized. Nice guy, but I struggled with keeping my attention
The GOAT.
No assignments which mean your whole grade depends on tests. Lectures are important so make sure you actually pay attention. His outlines are good and you can tell he loves what he teaches.
His a good teacher that really likes the subject that he teaches. There is not homework in this class so you will be graded on a few things like the 2 tests and the analysis paper. And you do need to pay attention in class for the information you need to take the test. But you can also watch the videos will doing the test to get your information.
The Professor is very passionate about his class, and his course was vapid. Great man though.
David is very not tech savvy. He had us all submit our assignments through email. The assignments were not that difficult though. He also had very long lectures, with a short break in the middle. no group discussions, no questions in class, only lectures. as someone who struggles with paying attention to long lectures, this was not an easy class XD
Lectures are long but they have outlines and you can watch them again (if an online class). Three essays, all of which are pretty simple and as long as you follow the requirements you should do fine. Make sure to show up to all of the lectures, as that is graded as well, I believe.
Professor Armountrout is very kind and knows a lot about his field. I really enjoyed his class. There were only 2/3 papers (i dont remember) and those were the only assignments for the whole term. Fair warning though, his lectures are very long and he speaks very slow.
