His lecture follows the handout he has available online. Printing it out before class will help a lot. Attendance is not mandatory. His tests are not multiple choices. The test are written test only. He gives about 3 or 4 tests. He will drop the lowest test score. He gives a lot time to turn in the online homework.
He makes helpful notes you can print out before class. He is a cool teacher and is very willing to help. Gets back to emails promptly. Would definitely recommend.
Dave is an amazing teacher! He's really kind and considerate. You won't regret taking his class. He doesn't care about attendance or homework but just recommends his students to keep with the material.
Prof. A is awesome! Easy A if math is your strength, still doable if not. He's very helpful, never condescending, has a sense of humor, doesn't assign excessive hw. Breaks things down to be less intimidating for students who don't grasp new concepts immediately yet doesn't harp on things so long that he bores the students who quickly understand.
Professor Armstrong , is a very caring teacher. He makes jokes during lectures and explains it clearly . I would highly recommend him to anyone who wants to take the course !
I really enjoyed taking this professor during the summer. A great choice for a future engineer as myself. The notes he gives to you are very useful. It makes it extremely convenient to review them. The summer is very condensed. I struggled myself because of how condensed the class is. Take this teacher for a math class. You won't regret it!
I have always been bad at math and had to take this class twice thinking it would be just as difficult as the times before. Armstrong is the best math teacher because he is easy going, only 3 tests and 1 cumulative final. The best part of his class was that homework was worth 30% of your grade!! Boosted my grade and his lectures were helpful.
Professor Dave, is very professional he lectures really well and if you don't understand something he's there to help you. The class itself has 3 test which count as 50% , final is 20% and homework is online it's worth 30% the test are not bad if you study. Majority of the test has 20 questions. BTW I dislike Math but I happily pass the class.
Professor David is very helpful in whatever questions you have in his lecture. Be sure not to skip class because you will get lost. His test are not that hard if you study over the material and do his study guides, if you still don't get it he will happily help you. He's lectures are also very long but still helpful in the long run so pay attention
very nice professor, he will help you with any question. I will suggest this professor for every student.
He's a good teacher. His lectures can be long, but sometimes he lets class leave early. Also expect homework.
Such a great professor! He's always willing to help and always answering any questions anyone has. A lot of h.w. but they aren't due till the day of the exam.
Makes his expectations clear at the beginning and then its up to you to keep up. If you show up to class & pay attention, you will do well. He doesn't take attendance but its worth showing up. Weekly quiz but provides practice quiz for you. Provides good lecture material & homework is not excessive. Made math fun. Very reasonable & easygoing.
He is very detailed in his lectures, but the grading is solely based off the quizzes and homework. He will answer and explain everything over as many times as you need. There is a lot of homework, but it's worth it to do to help with the weekly testing.
This instructor has his stuff together: lectures were presentations with screen shots available for us to pre-print before class, making it easy to follow along. His presentation style was clear, methodical and to some probably boring. But when IS pre-algebra is exciting?! When you get it and he provided the aha moments for many of us!!
Homework, practice quizzes, and printout lectures strongly recommended. Attendance and participation not required (although its strongly suggested as it is math). Very thorough, will most definitely recommend to anyone! Very fun class!
If you go to the class and do the homework you should pass! Print the lecture notes it really helps with following along. Love that theres a small quiz every week so not all the material is jammed into a midterm/final. He makes corny random jokes so the class isn't too boring. The homework he assigns isn't just busy work it really does help.
This class was from 4:30-6:45. Mr. Armstrong kept my attention the entire class. He engages you in his lectures by being funny, interactive, and used helpful memorization tricks. I have gained the confidence I need to move up in the next math class. I highly recommend Mr. Armstrong. I am bummed he is not available for Spring 2017 (IVC) .
I hate math and I suck at it and I still got an A somehow... Maybe it was the clear methods for getting this stuff done that he teaches, or the confusing ones he doesn't...??? Maybe I just became a math genius between semesters and this guys is horrible...??? Maybe you should take this guys class if you want to know what you're doing...???
I've been out of school for 15 year decided to go back and start school again. This teacher was really thorough explaining all the math problems. Made it really easy for me and I'm sure everyone else in the class. This guy is funny keeps us awake with funny jokes. Looking forward to taking any future classes with him. I would recommend him.
Summer 2016. Homework online. Takes attendance first few days then on you to come just note missing a day is missing 3 to 4 chapters, lots of notes if you take them 3 exams and final but all have study guides and exactly like the real exams he goes over them day before test, i learned more by doing the study guides and homework
Spring 2017. Math has never been my thing but he made it way worse. If you ask him a question he responds with another question. Everyday is a lecture that goes over like 4 chapters, the tests are really hard and his study guides are 40 examples which he only chooses 10 from. Lots of online homework not worth it i ended up just not going anymore.
Professor Armstrong had his trig class set up nicely. Fill in lecture notes makes it easy to study them later. He is more than happy to help if you ask. online Hw, test are heavily graded, but if you put in the study hours you will do fine. Can't expect to get a good grade if you don't do the work. Common sense people. Wish he would teach pre-cal
Best lecturer among all that I have taken in UCI. He teaches in UCI now. Reasonable notes, clear instructions, accessible outside class. He gives every full point if you participate the quiz, but he will give you feedback for wrong questions.
Straightforward class. E(curve) 0.
Im about to finish up taking MAT 10 with prof. Armstrong, and I honestly dont have anything negative to say. Hes one of those few professors who genuinely cares for his students success. Class is lecture heavy, with 3 exams and a final. If you show up and take good notes then this class is easier than it seems.
He gives notes to print off, definitely use them the tests are based straight from the notes. The tests are fairly straight forward, because he gives us practice exams which help a lot. Overall very straight forward, easy to follow class.
Very good professor! He makes the class go by smoothly and takes his time to explain things. He breaks everything down to it is all pretty clear to follow.
This professor is awesome in a sense he really engages with his students with witty funny comments, he also tries his best to help out student as much as he can with the material. Very detailed teaching skills, but it is still a hard class for me. Definitely do not miss classes and dont be afraid to ask as many questions to understand the material
I just took stats after a long time honestly prof Armstrong is one of the most amazing teacher I ever had eventough I got bad in his 3rd exam it was mostly being lazy. he is a really good teacher come to his class don't skip class and for sure you will understand the whole class even without review at home. The clearest teacher I have ever met.
This professor is awesome in a sense he really engages with his students with funny comments, he also tries his best to help out student as much as he can with the material. Very detailed teaching skills. His tests is hard but if you understand it you will be okay! I highly recommend him :)
This professor is very helpful and has a strong sense of urgency to make sure all his students pass the class. His class is very lecture heavy but he makes it enjoyable and straight forward. I recommend coming to each class because he does go through chapters fairly quickly which is usual for a college math course. Overall, he is AWESOME!
Professor Armstrong is very passionate about his work which is clearly shown by his style of teaching. This class will not give you headaches as it is very straight forward. 10/10 would recommend to take for stats!!
Professor Armstrong is really good at teaching statistics. I never get bored in class because taking notes is always so intense and entertaining.
He is really good at teaching statistics. He is very helpful. three exams and one final.
Professor Armstrong explains topics well. Homework is all online. Three exams and a final. Lowest exam grade(out of the three exams) can get dropped if the final exam grade is higher. Stats is not my strongest subject, but he teaches in a concise manner.
I honestly didn't have a problem with the actual professor, rather the Statistics material. There was a lot of required material to teach and a short period of time. I took his Intro to Stats class and I'm pretty sure I failed, mainly because I'm taking a math class after 3 years. But his teaching is very clear, and is super open and kind.
fair grade, amazing teaching and lectures, but no extra credit. do Hw. Hw is 20% of your grade.
I had previously taken Math 253 with Armstrong as well after failing it with a different professor. He really explains math well. Haven't had a good math teacher that explains things in an unserstandable way in a long time....
This is the 3rd time I am attempting to pass Math 10. The past two instructors that I have tried with were not helpful. Armstrong actually knows his math and explains the sections so that students can UNDERSTAND the math. For once I actually felt like I understood math!!! Homework is graded and is online, but you have unlimited attempts at it.
He is a nice professor. 60% 3 exam ,20% final ,20% homework. Homework must be done online and you can do the homework over and over again until you get a good grade. No extra credit but he trying to help students.
He is really fun and nice professor!!! Study guides are given. tests are pretty much from those study guides (practice questions). would recommend
Soooo, he's rlly nice and rlly knows his math and is great at explaining it. But stats is a hard class, so if your're looking for extra credit, he doesn't have it The tests which are crazy hard (not the professors fault, just the subject) is worth like a large portion of your grade, so if u mess up, your done. And no formula sheet allowed on test
Awesome professor, learned a lot! He made the class extremely enjoyable, and quite easy. I wish I had taken him for my other math classes!
Prof. Armstrong is pretty solid at teaching statistics. He breaks down information so that students are able to understand the material more easily. Really cares for his students and wants them to learn the material well. Tests do gethardr, I received an A+ 1st test , B- 2nd test, B- 3rd test. Overall pretty funny and has a nice sense of fashion.
He is super nice and open to any confusing questions, but he's pretty hardcore on memorizing things. You have to memorize every single formula and when to use it, no hints or formula sheets on test. Not good at memorizing in short period of time, than don't take his class.
he is a really good and very fair teacher. he is not easy bc it is college class but he does give you all the information you need to understand and study the chapters.
He is very knowledgable, nice and will answer any questions you have, especially after class, he waits for us.
If you want to learn he's there for you. He teaches at a pretty fast pace but will always stop to answer questions and never gets frustrated. Super funny
Helpful professor and seems to care a lot about his students. He's always open to questions and answers them thoroughly. Homework is online and due every exam. Tests consist of multiple choice and a couple free response questions. Exams after the first are not easy, so a good amount of studying is required.
I like this class but exams are very hard.
I wasn't a fan of statistics I never understood word problems until I took this class. He is one of the best professors I have met In IVC. His class may get tougher as it reaches final week but with some studying you put after class everything will be fine.
Professor Armstrong made the class extremely easy. I'd definitely recommend taking him for any math related course.
he cares a lot about his students. fair grade. no curve.
Math has always been a difficult subject for me however I managed to do pretty well in this class. I'll give the credit to the Prof. Beware: Do the HW!!
If you show up and pay attention it is not too hard to get an A
His class was extremely hard for my purely because I suck at math but overall I think he's a really good teacher. He doesn't make his students feel stupid if they have "dumb" or basic questions. If you don't do hw you wont understand whats going on. There are three tests final and hw all graded.
good professor, detail oriented. teaches the subject well
No extra credit but professor Armstrong is very helpful. not hard to get an A
Stats is not an easy class. His lectures are great and make sense. Do the homework, it will definitely help. No extra credit given. He doesn't get frustrated when you have questions. he wants to help you understand.
has very clear lectures if you go to class and pay attention.
good professor haha super cool easy to pay attention
Professor Armstrong is a fantastic professor who genuinely wants his students to succeed. The material is difficult and confusing at times, but his lectures are incredibly helpful. Most classes are spent working through example problems that really help prepare you for the test. He is very helpful and patient when it comes to answering questions.
im not good at math but i understood it with him. not much work, and attendance isnt mandatory.
Armstrong is honestly a great professor. Breaks down the lectures that gives you a really good understanding. Attendance inst mandatory but you also have to put in time if you miss class. Overall would recommend.
Armstrong was an awesome professor. The only thing was his tests are very theory based so make sure you are ready and that you have carefully read and studied your notes as well as doing the practice tests and you will do fine! Overall an easy class.
I for one have always been nervous about taking math classes because math isn't my strongest subject. With this Professor it is really easy to understand the equations/work because he breaks it down with you, does not just lecture! For a solid good grade I RECOMMEND PRINTING NOTES, it will help you so much more than writing everything down on paper
He is a great Professor. Like any class if you put in the work you will get a good grade. With him you do not have to worry whether the lectures will make sense, because he writes the notes with you. He really likes when questions are being asked, he is very patient. If you want to skip a class MAKE SURE you get the notes from someone.
The class itself is very good and easy, however the subject of STATS can be confusing at times. As long as you pay attention and print the notes, you will pass. He as a teacher is not difficult and is willing to go over things multiple times if asked. WOULD RECOMMEND if you specifically think math is not your best subject. He will make it easy.
Armstrong is a very direct professor. If you do not take notes, you will be lost. Exams are very multiple choice heavy. These multiple choice questions are found in the depths of your notes. Overall, he is a quality guy that encourages questions.
Armstrong is a great teacher. Lectures are pretty straight forward, but online hw is a pain. Tests are hard so make sure to study the lecture notes. Study guides were nothing like the exams so extra practice is the best.
Dave has been the only math professor that I continue to sign up for as he is a very good and helpful professor. Lecture heavy but its very clear and beneficial. Attendance is only mandatory for the first week but you will fall behind if you don't show up to class (i recommend going to class). He is there to help so ask questions if you're unsure!!
Math has never been a strong subject for me, but he really made the class straight forward. He realizes alot of people do not enjoy math but always finds ways to make jokes throughout class and he will even laugh at his own jokes if you dont. 3 test, and a final. Do homework and Study Guides and go over notes really well.
One of the best professors i've taken at ivc. I totally recommend him for any math class! Take notes, and do the HW!
Super nice and cares about his students!!! Lectures are kinda boring, but it's math so its expected. Be prepared for somewhat difficult exams!
Professor Armstrong is a solid teacher that knows his material. He prepares notes for you to follow along with in lectures and desires for you to ask questions to make sure you understand it. He is very patient and clear with what is expected. This class is one where what you put into it is what you will get out of it!
He is aright. Exam one is easy, exam 2 is harder, exam 3 is impossible and he even knows that. But we did get a cheat sheet for the final. Online hw is really easy.
Hes a cool guy and he makes the math actually make sense. He tries to make sure you dont over think things.
super nice teacher!! he teaches math in a really simple way and doesn't over complicate it.
He really helps his students out. Knows how to teach stats and doesnt leave you with questions
Exam 1 is easy, Exam 2 is difficult, and Exam 3 is mega intense. I wish he would have allowed us to have a note card during the exam, but he is at least letting us use one for the final. All the homework is online and it is up to you in terms of your success in his class.
I have a hard time with math and professor Armstrongs lectures made math more clear and understandable
Overall good teacher, explains lectures clearly. Exam 2 and 3 are not like the study guide so understand the concepts!
I had a great time taking Armstrong for stats (math11). The class is comprised of 3 exams, hw, and a final exam. The hw wasn't difficult but a couple of the exams were very challenging and had a hard time understanding the concept at times. However, he is a very fair professor and will help you out as much as possible.
If you are taking over 4 classes (and want to get an A in stats) I wouldn't recommend taking Armstrong's class. He's really kind/helpful, but the 2nd and 3rd exams required many hours of studying-- time you don't have if you're taking too many classes. This class requires A LOT of effort! Take another teacher if you want an easy A. RIP my GPA lol
Extremely harsh with his grading. He is very engaging and there to help, but hold no mercy on his tests. If you don't get a passing grade on your first Exam drop the class. It will be downhill from there. If you don't grasp math concepts quickly don't take him. He moves at a very fast pace.
