This teach was the best teacher that I have ever had at Ryerson. TAKE THISE COURSE!!! NO final, only presentations after the midterm... The midterm was fair... and he's REALLY interesting to listen to. I didn't even like the topic before attending, but he made it so interesting!
This guy is actually a great professor! Very talented, very smart, and young...so he relates to the class often. The course is very very easy if you FOLLOW HIS INSTRUCTIONS...I was getting literally perfect in his class before the final project..
Great professor. I joined his class late two weeks into the school year, but the assignments were easy, field trips were fun, and he was a really nice guy even though I was noticeably absent all the time. The stuff you learn from him is actually interesting, no need for the textbook. Use his slides and take add your own notes!
he is fun
This is my fav teacher at ryerson so far. It is easy to do well in this class too (as long as you go to his clases - since his midterms are based on the slides). I didn't do that well on the midterms, but still received an A in the course. If you show him you like the topics he is teaching, he will notice it and it will reflect on ur grade.
Awesome teacher...favourite teacher so far. He is funny and he knows a lot about what he teaches. Has lots of good stories from when he was in the North. Overall cool guy! (Y)
great prof!
He is a very good lecturer. He has a natural interest in the subject matter. Tests weren't difficult, short answer marking seemed strict. The final take-home essay was the heaviest component in the class. Recommend taking this course if you're looking for a relatively light upper level liberal. At least with this course you'll learn something new.
I love him, omg there need to be more prof like him, hes funny and love to teach and i actually enjoyed this class even though i dont like the subject itself. this class is very straight forward :D
Very loud, projected voice. Very funny and helpful. Always answering student's questions and providing a very detailed answer. Provides power point slides with a lot of detail on notes.
If you have a chance to take this class with Dave, do it.
Great prof, knows his material, makes classes both interesting & entertaining. Also knows great European food a.k.a "the Bosna"
-such a nice professor; really straightforward - easy to follow and understand; his lectures are full of great detail and clear explanations; assignments were easy; funny; tests were easy; enjoyed the lectures!! If you need an elective, this one would be a pretty good choice!
GEO 605 in my opinion is an easy upper level liberal. Mark breakdown: (1 current event news article 15%, 2 midterms 20% each, take home essay 35%, proposal 10%- part of essay). Tests are based on lecture notes, take home essay is the only task that involves reading and news article is easy as well.
GEO 605 EASY "A"...Act fast though, the course fills up five minutes after students are allowed to enroll in the class.GEO 605 - Geography of the Canadian North is also an easy upper level liberal. 2 Tests (1 hours long), 1 Current Review Article, Take Home Essay + Proposal. The only actual work involved is the final essay.
Tests are based on powerpoint notes. Easy B+ without trying....put a little more effort to it n you can pull of a A- to A easily!
For those of you who are thinking about an upper level liberal to take next year or next term I would highly recommend taking GEO 605. By far "the easiest" upper level liberal I have ever taken so far. Even as easy as intro level language classes. Just my 2-cents worth.
David Atkinson. Breakdown 2 midterms (1 hours long each) 20% each, 1 current review article (2 pages double spaced) 15%, take home final 45%...onli put work in this course is the final take-home essay thats it!...tests are based on notes from powerpoint no need to buy textbook!!!
Amazing prof! Easy but you'll still learn a lot because of how great he teaches! Definitely look forward to having him as a prof again.
best prof I've had so far
This professor is the best prof at Ryerson !! Easiest Upper liberal to take ! You will never want to skip his class, instead you will be there every class to learn ! Trust me, and just take his class ! THe funniest, easiest and most relaxing class of my 4years at Ryerson !!
Great prof, very nice, smart, and funny. Material was interesting and not too difficult. Definately would recommend for a liberal option
Best professor I've had so far! Definitely recommend any course he teaches. Even if you have no interest in geography, he makes it interesting
He was the best geo prof out there!!! hes funny and his mt and assignments are easy
This is by far the easiest UL any one can take. You wouldn't want to skip any lectures. They are really interesting. He is a really laid back and chill proff. The breakdown changed in winter 2013. He made it even easier. 1 midterm 35%, 2 easy assignments( Current Review Article(20,25%) and Career Assignment) And finally 4 easy online quizes (20%)
Dave is one of my favourite professors! He is really funny and engaging and made this class enjoying. Alot of the information is on the slides but he also adds a bit on when he lectures and jokes around. He was also very open to extensions on assignments. I would definatly recommend him to anyone even if they are not interested in geography!
Explains everything very well, makes a lot of jokes. Material is not hard, so I would recommend to take it as an elective.
Such a great Prof! Makes the class fun and enjoyable. Tells lots of jokes and makes you want to come to class. He posts all his slides online and all his power points are straight forward and out of the textbook! We had 5 online quizzes which was easy to get an 80-100! Definitely recommend taking his course!!!
Dave is perfection at it's finest, WHAT A GUY. People may say he's super easy, but his classes are definitely not bird courses. Dave actually presents a relatively heavy amount of info and makes sure to test your knowledge on it.You can tell he loves what he does, and he's the coolest guy while doing it. You go Dave.
Adore this professor. :)
Honestly the best professor I had, was clear with teaching, knew his stuff and his tests and quizzes weren't too difficult. Was a great person and a funny teacher too, if you listened in class and studied well then its an easy course
One of the funniest profs I've ever had MIdterm test was extremely easy even. Study both lectures and textbook, because quizzes and exam are based on them and don't take his niceness in advantage and attend his class. I wish he taught all geography courses!
Took as an elective and didnt regret! Amazing prof! Makes lectures fun and interesting. Exams are super easy and on what he covered in class.
Good prof and very clear and interesting during lectures. The material was not something I personally am interested in, but I can't deny that he is a good prof.
He's so funny and always nice, he started off and ended on a good note. Everyone really liked him and he is really flexible with assignment due dates, and he makes the course material interseting
Funny guy, but really tough marker. Quizzes are super detailed, so know every bit of info. Term paper was given with no grading criteria. The multiple choice in the exam was really tricky. Take another elective.
He was an ok prof, teaching style similar to a highschool teacher. He loves what he does, and is very knowledgeable on the material. His quizzes and exams are hard because he gives no guidancespecifications. Memorize the textbook basically.
He's super funny and makes the class seem so easy but when it comes to quizzes. you're like what the heck. The book is crucial although I didn't use it but got lucky still received a really good grade. Exam is hard but Atkinson is a really good prof and you effort pays off if you work for it! TAKE HIM
Really overrated. Average prof.
He's helpful, he's really funny, he loves what he teaches. If every prof had his enthusiasm and gave great lectures like he does, I would be more inclined to agree with the amount of tuition that we pay. Also provides priceless banter on buses to and from field-study trips. Also if "would you do shots with this prof?" was an option, i'd say yes.
Good Prof, easy course very clear on what we need to know, gives lots of extensions
Don't go in expecting extensions. Online quizzes are good and help prepare for the exam but having only one in class test sucked. The assignments were pretty easy but it takes foreverrr to get marks back (incl. exam mark). It's annoying as hell. An A is possible if you do well on the last assignment and exam.
The most amazing liberal arts course teacher I've seen at Ryerson. You should take this course just on the fact that you will actually LEARN something during lectures (what these profs get paid for). The course is really interesting and having the prof as the presenter makes it even more so. There are 3 online courses, 2 papers and 1 in class test.
Funny guy and great personality but he's not specific at all... you have to attend class and write down what he says because his powerpoints are very VAGUE. You'll find yourself not knowing anything on the test and exam... he doesn't specify what to study.. he just talks......
Hands down one of the best profs. 8ams are no problem when you got this guy waking you up
He's a very good teacher. I've actually learned something from him and I really love what I am learning in this course because he makes it interesting. Only downside is he isn't very clear on what is going to be on tests and quizes.
Atkinson is an alright prof. He does not keep students updated online, so if you don't attend class you won't do well. He's pretty funny, but very vague with material.
Atkinson was one of my favourite professors. He's seriously great, and if you have the chance to take his class, I highly suggest doing so.
This guy is awesome! One of the best profs to have for an 8 am class. He loves doughnuts by the way. I'd recommend him to everyone! Show up, take some notes and you'll do great.
Classes are boring. He just rambles. His slides are useless, since they're just pictures. For his quizzes he picks he most random things from his lectures and tests you on them. His feedback for essays are pointless (only about references). Takes forever to give marks back. Terrible prof. Final thoughts: Know your APA references.
Awesome professor and a very interesting course. He knows the course material very well and teaches it with great enthusiasm. Makes lectures fun by cracking jokes and keeping the class entertained. Go to class and take notes and you'll will do well on his quizzes and the term test. Highly recommend taking this class.
Take notes in class and you're good for the quizzes and test.
Excellent professor, knows the content very well. I found the class very interesting. He is very enthusiastic about the content. For the quizzes and term test, make sure to take notes in class. Overall, I really enjoyed this class! Definitely recommend taking it.
Interesting class and Dave definitely seems knowledgeable about what he teaches however he isn't very clear on what's required for the assignments and gives poor feedback on them. The three online quizzes are fairly easy and you can get a good mark on the final if you study for it. Make sure to take good notes in class and you're all set.
Amazing prof!! Be sure to attend class and you will do well.
This guy is way too funny. Someone put a rating on here saying he wasn't and he got pissed and just made us die laughing for the entire next class. Only downside is if you don't go to class you're screwed for the exam as his slides are missing tons of info. Very reasonable on grading though.
Great prof! Extremely funny! You should attend class and take down as many notes as you can for his quizzes and exams. He's good with being specific about what to do for essays, especially if you ask one-on-one
He's the breath of fresh air you need in the land of mediocre profs at Ryerson. He'll keep you entertained every lecture with his great balance of being a Professor and being the class clown as well. He also gave us a lot of extensions on papers. 10/10, best prof I've had thus far.
Funny dude, great professor.
Lectures are information heavy but are informative and interesting. He's engaging to listen to, pretty funny, but very knowledgeable and presents information in a way that is easy to understand (if you're paying attention, if you don't, you'll play a bit of catch-up). Visit his mini ecosystem before it inevitably dies.
Made class interesting and entertaining, but took forever to give back marks for assignments and midterm which was annoying.
Dave is really funny and knows how to keep you interested during lectures. However, he doesn't give the clearest criteria for his assignment and always seems to give up towards the end of each lecture and quickly flip through slides. His quizzes online are also much harder and don't always include what he taught you in the lectures.
Awesome prof.
Takes forever to hand back student work, but if you follow the criteria/rubric you'll get really good marks. He posts his powerpoints online, some information is discussed outside the powerpoint so attendance is recommended. If you don't show up but understand the info on the powerpoint you will pass.
hands down best professor at Ryerson, go to class and take good notes and you're guaranteed an A+. There's no textbook and he is HILARIOUS
He is the BEST professor in Ryerson university as a whole. God bless you Dave!
Dave makes lectures interesting and enjoyable. He is extremely knowledgeable and cares a lot about his course content. He is a little flakey and doesn't provide the best feedback but he is not too hard of a marker and is nice to talk to after class if you're struggling with something. Overall, one of my favorite professors!
I showed up to the first two lectures, a field trip, and never again... got an A. I didn't go because it was a late class and I commute but, I would recommend attending his lectures because he is quite funny and it's interesting.
Not accessible after class and half are cancelled. Funny guy though, just don't expect him to remember your name or to help you out
He is definitely the best professor in Ryerson's Geo Department. Thank you Dave!
David is a great lecturer and fair marker. The class is not that difficult, just need a little effort. He's hilarious and makes the content very interesting. He is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the content and teaching. My only downside was that many classes were cancelled. The class is 3 quizzes, 1 test, and 3 online quizzes.
Great prof and great lecturer. He's very hilarious and is a fair marker. Just need a little effort in the class. The class is two assignments, 1 test, and 3 online quizzes. The only downsides are that many classes get cancelled and marking does take a while. David cares about the content and teaching.
Dave is hands down the best GEO professor at Ryerson. Try to take any geography class with him. The man is hilarious.
Great professor! Goes above and beyond for students. He fixed my final mark without hesitation when there was an error on my part.
Amazing professor, he is very lazy and busy so he will cancel 2-4 classes and thus less material on the midterm, which was very easy, it was 20 M/C and 1 short answer, and no exam. And he loves what he teaches so class is very entertaining, but theres no book so go to class and you will get an A
Best Prof at Ryerson hands down. Easy marker, easy midterm, open book quizzes, easy assignments, overall best prof. Definitely, recommend taking his class!!!!!
Great professor who manages to make such a boring subject enjoyable. Pay attention in class and you will succeed.
My friend took GEO-605 with Jeanne Maurer while I took it with David Atkinson. I kind of regret taking it with Atkinson as each lecture consists of PPTs with blanks. Sometimes he does not even post it. My friend was lucky as Jeanne would only lecture 2 hours and the other hour they would just review and talk about the essay. Definitely more work!
I loved taking this class with Dave. Very humorous prof and made the somewhat boring content interesting. Lectures were easy to follow and assignments were clear and fairly graded. Had a fun field trip and exams were extremely doable.
Dave's class was a breeze! As long as you show up and pay attention, take your own notes based off of what he's saying, the tests won't be an issue for you. The field trip was super fun, however, the final assignment (based off of the field trip), is gonna be hell if you leave it up to the last few days to do.
Davids lectures were so fun to attend, hes really funny and makes time fly while teaching the material efficiently. Hes really caring & understanding. Hes a veryy fair marker, just follow his rubric & youll get an A on the essays. You do need to put in a little effort for this class, its an easy A but dont expect it by doing nothing.
Dave is such a G. This was by far my most favourite class to take. His lectures can drag on but he keeps you entertained the whole time. His assignments are very basic and easy to get an A on. He provides the big concepts you need to know for the midterm and exam. Overall a very interesting class with a very good prof. 10/10 would recommend!
I took Atkinson's class last year and I miss it :( He is easily my favourite prof and the content he teaches is very interesting. He included a field trip an attempted to build a terrarium to give us a visual/hands-on example. Highly recommend even if it is not your department
David is so inspiring as his lectures are hilarious and entertaining. Very informative towards students and responds to email quickly. A real legend indeed.
A solid prof to take in Ryerson. David is one of those prof who would lower your stress during the difficult and stressful time in Ryerson. Assignments instructions are simple and clear. If you show up and take notes, you will succeed with a solid grade.
Dr. Atkinson is a great guy, very entertaining and not a tough marker. It's an easy A if you show up to class. Highly recommend!
David is an amazing professor who makes sure the lectures aren't boring. The midterm/final exam/quizzes are ALL from the lecture slides and its straight forward. The essays have clear grading criteria and so long you follow the rubric and cite sources, its atleast an easy 80. 10/10 recommended
David Atkinson engages the class very well. He seems to be very caring and looks for student feedback to improve. This is seen when he does a great job of explaining concepts in a really clear way. Great lectures, posted slides and fair quizzes.
Literally the chillest guy ever, having him as a teacher is seriously so great. He doesn't have overly complicated assignments and explains them super well. I really learned so much in this course and I actually looked forward to his lectures every week. Also great music taste.
Really solid prof that was inspiring and funny, which made the course really interesting. He was engaging and clear in his lectures and assignments. Assignments were research based and the tests were based on his lecture notes and the textbook. Plenty of time to complete work making it easy to do well in the course.
Dr. Atkinson truly cares about his students. He knows how the pandemic has taken a toll on us and gave extensions to many things. GEO 131 is a good class. The online version this semester was 3 quizzes, a research q + a assignment, a soil assignment and a watershed report. You really learn a lot in this class and it covers a wide range of things.
Really wonderful prof and person, SO understanding. Great music at the start of lectures. The only reason why I rated 4 stars instead of 5 is that he hasn't handed back any assignments before the drop date, only the midterm and 2 quizzes (automatically graded by D2L). I have no idea how I am doing in this course and my final paper is due next week.
Professor Atkinson is a great prof, lectures are interesting material, and he tries his best to make them entertaining... he is really passionate about his work. He is accepting of late assignments, as he understands students are busy. However, he takes forever to grade written assignments.... he's a gem though.
Thought this class would be a bird course but his test questions are too specific and you need to know every little thing from his lectures/slides. He gets good ratings because hes a fun and engaging prof but tests are difficult and unorganized. Marks hard on reports and essay too.
He is such an amazing professor who helps students to their best abilities. He believes in giving short quizzes because if he gives more question, then he needs to mark more, lol. He is really funny and truly understands the mindset of student. Lenient with marking and is a GEM.
I LOVED this class so much, the assignments and quizzes are easy if you pay attention and study the lectures (not hard to follow). He is very clear and caring which was so helpful for first year online students. TAKE THE CLASS! Won't regret:)
MY FAVOURITE PROF. He truly cares for the students and teaches in a way that sticks. Super funny and friendly, truly an ICONIC prof. He made my first year super memorable and is super fair with deadlines and assignments. He gives straight forward rubrics and prepares you well for tests and quizzes. 1000/10, by far one of Ryerson's best professors.
Great, easy going prof whos passionate about his courses. Have to go to class since the notes he posts barely has info (its mainly pics)
hands down the best prof at ryerson. he makes geo605 very interesting, you can tell he's passionate about the material and he does an amazing job of teaching it. he's a super caring prof that will make your life easier. also he's funny and has a great taste in music, so you will look forward to his lectures. take him if you have the chance!
Good professor. Cares about the material he teaches and he is very accommodating. Unlike most professors he actually cares about students mental health. My only complaint is that he never responded to my emails, but I was able to get answers to my questions in class.
The best prof! So funny, lectures are great for discussion & feel so comfortable to ask questions in. Quizzes are fair, assignments are fair. All info in his lectures is the only info included in quizzes no bs and no surprises with them. Attend lectures and pay attention and youll do great. If you dont pay attention youll have trouble tho.
prof atkinson is a very good prof! there was no final exam. the midterm was straightforward and he gives a lot of time to complete it! his explanations on assignments are very straightforward and there is a lot of freedom when completing. HE IS HILARIOUS. best prof and would recommend to first year students or anyone for that matter!
Professor Atkinson is a solid teacher. His EEE class is good fun with a couple of assignments sprinkled throughout the year.
Dr. Atkinson is an awesome prof to have first year (GEO 131). Definitely got me interested in geography and ecology. He's a hilarious guy with engaging lectures. Not much readings required. Few assignments and very accommodating with due dates (will definitely give you an extension if you ask).
the guy is passionate, caring, and makes it easy for new students in geography to understand the material. everything but the final paper is fairly easy. apparently he is a hard grader yet lenient but i could not tell you because he has not given back written assignments. exam season is about over and i have no idea how i am doing in this class.
One of my favorite profs Ive had as a first year! Lectures were all recorded so you could go back to them later, Really funny and you can see the passion Dave has for what he teaches. Assignments were straight forward and quizzes weren't too bad either with ample time to complete them. Dave is an absolute gem!
THE BEST PROF YOU WILL EVER HAVE AT THIS UNIVERSITY! David was very understanding & gave us multiple extentions. His quizzes & midterm was very easy because everything you need to know are on his lectures. He is a fair marker and hilarious with his little jokes. If you want to boost your gpa, this course is for you! Take it with this prof only!
Professor Atkinson was the best professor in my first year. His lectures were very long and content heavy but you did not need to watch his lectures because the assignments were not based off of course content. He was very lenient with due dates/deadlines and always gave class-wide extensions. He always gave detailed feedback, no textbook required.
Great guy. Hilarious and super knowledgable, experienced, and well-respected in his field. VERY accommodating, allowed all of our tests&lectures to remain online even after school was back in person. Only issue is he never handed back any of our 2 essay grades, idk if thats normal for him or he was just busy this semester. Either way, great course.
The class has two papers, which were graded very fairly. The first paper had unclear instructions. No readings, just lecture. You have to quickly type everything he says because his slides are incomplete. The quizzes and exam were quite easy, don't really need to study. Takes forever to grade. Overall, the class was decent, learned a lot.
The notes are not useful unless you went to lecture and listened to the prof's explanation. Lectures contain a lot of info required to understand material. The papers were straightforward but didn't get the grades until the last day of school. Exam + quizzes were pretty simple and based entirely on the notes. Overall a nice learning experience.
He is a gem, literally. He gives a lot of tips for his exams in class so make sure you go he provides a lot of tips for the exams. This class boost your GPA FOLKS take it
I can't say enough good things about Dave. His profound knowledge and genuine passion for the subject is truly admirable/appreciated. The assessments, including quizzes and papers, were not only fair but also provided valuable insights. He's super accommodating and you'll learn a bunch from the class. Definitely recommend!
best prof ever, good sense of humor
graded really easily, but gave a very informative and fun class. good sense of humor. extensions are easy to get. count on there being an awesome field trip at some point.
At first the class seems hard and the quizzes r hard, but they r open book. The tests are wayyy easier than the quizzes. The field trip helps you meet new friends and the class becomes easy as it progresses. You really need to know what an ecosystem and watershed are. if you do everything you will get a very good grade easy marker and easy going.
Definitely one of the easiest classes I've taken, as someone who is not even that interested in geography. He was a very chill prof. Easy field trip involved, paper based on that trip, and exams that lowkey felt like high school tests. He is a bit slow with grading though!
By far, one of the best profs ever! I genuinely learned so much. He actually wants you to learn and loves what he does. I would consider you lucky to have the privilege to be taught by him! Great class. Field trip is so fun. Go to the lectures, you will learn so much and do well.
Professor Atkinson's GEO131 class is a gem! He's incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. The assessments are fair, and his accommodating nature makes the course a breeze. unstuck ai and the recorded lectures are great study tools alongside the textbook. Highly recommended for an easy A!
