This guy knows what he's doing. His class is very intellectually captivating and not very difficult. In short, Dr. Becker is highly recommended.
This is the teacher to take for Organic Chemistry I and II. He grades the tests very fairly and the curves the tests a lot.
really good professor w/ good curving system.
This guy knows nothing about technology..doesn't even know how to use a projector in a class of 200 so he writes his notes in messy handwriting all over the board.. the curve is ok but the tests are difficult and not easy to study for with the book OR his crappy notes.. i tried to contact him about my final grade and he ignored my calls.. just avoid ths guy
OMGGGG, hard as hell, but very possible to pass if you pay him!
organic chemistry is notorious for changing majors but if you have to take it then take it with this guy. He talks like a regular guy so its easy to understand him even if its not easy to see his notes. he isnt very helpful out of class and hates questions but he has a huge curve. just make sure to spend many hours in the library.
Cool professor. Not that hard of a class.
Dr Becker is the "idiots guide to orgo", he teaches with extreme clarity. If you follow his lectures and homework you will easily do well in the class. He makes org.chem pleasurable and very manageable. i definately recommend him.
HUUUUUUGE CURVE! He gives help sessions before every test. And allows you to drop 1 out three midterms. Anyone that studies and goes to class should do great.
Great techer, bad person.. The guy hates questions and makes you feel like an idiot. His finalis super hard and f***s up your grade, since he curves to help the C and D average people mostly. He is not all that. Quirke is much easier! Just buy the book and you'll do much betther than with this guy (and struggle a lot less!).
I think he is a good teacher. He doesn't even have nots to teach from, amazing he's very smart His test are hard, based on the fact that there are only 10 questions, but a curve helps you out alot. You have to study alot if you want an "a", so if you are lazy you'll do bad. He has the best looking legs i have even seen in my life!!!!
He explains VERY well...if you HAVE to take orgo then take it with him. If you also have old tests, even better, he changes around the questions but the format is always the same. He's a great professor, the only thing is, if you ask a question in class, make sure it's a REALLY good one, if not then he'll make u feel stupid! His curves are awesome.
Wow, please take him for Organic Structure Determination Lab...you won't regret it! He's smart and cool. Super easy course material and the final was a joke, just two easy (organic twoish) NMR problems. Gave us a tour of the instruments too! The easiest A I've ever gotten, period.
Good at explaining the material, not too happy about answering questions.Huge curve, and the first copuple of testts were not hard. He's got nice legs, nice lips, nice booty, great smile! When you are bored with his lectures you can just watch him.
Organic is hard period, but becker is the best you can get at fiu. His tests are not a piece of cake, but he curves ALOT. Make sure you study his NOTES, the test comes from there and try to get old exams, they are very similar to his current tests. HE is the best. Highly recommend him !
Becker is an amazing teacher. He even writes word by word definitions on the board.Never once used powerpoints,or notes. All the notes we ever took came from his head directly onto the board. His exams are 10 ?'s,no mult.choice;but very reasonable. If you get ahold of his past exams you're set,the questions are almost identical. Strongly recommended.
He is amazing, gorgeous, brilliant, etc... I really enjoyed his lecture and his overal demeanor towards chemistry.
Dr. Becker can be broken down into two easily definable sectors. Sector No.1 - He is brilliant at what he does. All semester long, everything he teached you comes straight from his mind. There are no notes involved. He has such a vast amount of knowledge wihtin his brain that it is enjoyable just to sit through his lecture and watch him
AWESOME professor!! He actually writes his notes on the board (not powerpoints) and tests are not that bad. As long as u know what he's talking about in lecture you shouldn't have a problem on tests. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you don't go you'll have to copy notes from someone else and notes are always written to one's own advantage.
hes not only extermely smart hes vey reasonable with his students his awesome!i passed with a "C" but i could have done better but i only wish he would teach the rest of my chem course!go to class and study his notes understand them and you'll get a "A".love him brillant beautiful mind!
He is simply the best! brilliant, interesting, and perfect!Study hard and follow his notes and you will get an A. I just love him!!!
the best ever at what he does. study ALL of your notes and the most important is your homework, which is weird that noone has mentioned. I guess thats the difference between the A's and the C's. 70% of exam is homework, and the other 30% is notes. take him and NOONE else. TRUST ME. STUDY HARD its difficult and a lot of material.
Dr. Becker is extremely intelligent and does a good job at lecturing. He doesn't really use the book, his tests are straight out of his notes. If you take good notes and pay attention in class, you should do fine. He makes sure every exam has a B- average. Final is worth 50%.
I took organic II with him and he is a great professor!!You need to go to every class if you want to pass because he does not have any notes online. If you take good notes you don't even need the text book. He is a nice guy and really smart. I was worried about failing the class because the final is worth 50% but I passed because his curve was grea
He is a really good teacher. However, he can be a little rude. He is very clear and explains concepts very well. My advice? Take good notes (you don't even need the book), and you'll do fine. The exams come straight from the notes and he is a very fair grader. I got an A in the class with moderate effort.
He is the smartest professor I have ever seen teach chemistry. You don't use the book, because this man is the book. If you look at his notes, they are basically word for word like the book. He is a genius. Tests arent that difficult, make sure to get old tests from previous years.
Go to class and take great notes. His exams are exactly what he goes over in class. Also, get his old exams because they are almost the same as what he gives you, but count mostly on his notes. If you have to take organic, take it with him. You will actually learn in his class and his tests are way easier than the others who teach this class.
Best professor ever you have to go to class because the questions on his test come from his notes but he's really clear when explaing he make ochem easy
Not as easy as some commentors alude. When he gets near the end of a section (before an exam) he rushes through the material. Doing the homework is crucial. Not generous with time (out the door before the class 99% of the time).
By far the best professor I've had @ FIU. His vernacular made a world of difference when when explaining concepts. He is genius at projecting the material on the board. 3 exams and one final exam. Not MP. Mechanisms and reagents need to be drawn out. 1 of the 1st 3 exams is dropped. Partial credit is given for your work on exams.
Get his workbook and go to him for answers. He is very helpful.
Much, much harder than people say. Lectures are very clear but tests are challenging, especially the final. Goes very slow all semester, and then leaves you with a ton of work for the final, which is worth 50% of your grade. Great curve. Take the class seriously, it's no cake walk.
Challenging class for both those with some or no experience with music. Dr.Becker makes his ideas and proposals very clear, he is VERY reasonable when grading (midterm, small project, final) and DOES NOT want anyone to even come close to failing.
Becker is an amazing professor! He teaches what you need to know, crystal clear too, & then shows you how it can be used in real life. 3 exams, 1 gets dropped. They were challenging & came from his notes. The final was hard, & it's 50% of the overall grade! Hardly uses the txtbk. Buy his wb (it helps), go to office hrs & you'll be okay. Take him!
Without a doubt, the BEST science professor at FIU! He goes over every concept you need to know for the exam multiple times and any questions you may have he is willing to help you AFTER the lecture during his office hours. Makes a subject that is generally difficult fairly easy to understand. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
The best chemistry professor in FIU. I would say one of the best professors FIU has (he's an MIT Ph.D graduate so you can imagine how well his knowledge is on the material). Now, do NOT expect an easy A, you DO have to study and prepare well for his exams. One gets dropped and the final is hard (accounting 50% of the grade). No mastering chem.
Amazing Professor! He teaches extremely well and prepares you for his exams. I would not consider myself someone good at organic chemistry and yet my lowest grade was a C-. On top of his amazing curves (that C- was a 19%), he still drops your lowest test grade. You still must study though, especially since the final is 50% of your final grade.
Truly a manifestation of what the idea professor should be. Unique and sincere passion in what he teaches? check. Challenging? DOUBLE check. He is awesome and if you truly put in the effort towards this class, you will exponentially expand your views on many aspects of life. Don't just take this class to get an A, Learn to appreciate it !
His exams can be pretty tough, except the first 2,but his curve is a miracle of G-d.A 59 was an A- on last exam and in 30s were B's.He's an alright lecturer. But i survived because I bought "Organic chemistry I As a Second Language"and kept up with it. BUY IT!Photocopy his workbk from a friend.I would recommend him.Con:final is worth 50% of grade.
He is an OK professor. best part about him is the curve that he gives. I felt like i didn't learn much because i would get 40-50 on his tests but still earn an A or B...IMO that is stupid. The average for his tests were in the 30s range...to me that means that he doesn't teach the material very well and makes tests harder than what he teaches
Professor Becker knows his stuff very well, curves are amazing. You must study and practice, sometimes he puts problems straight from the notes. Tests can be really random and in the topic you think is the easiest, he puts really difficult problems on the test. I really like organic chemistry and Becker is a good teacher and his curves AMAZING!!
Dr. Becker is an excellent professor. If you need to take Organic, then take it with him. He is very generous with his grading, I did much better than I really should have. Focus on his notes and the workbook that he developed and you should do very well.
One of the best professors at FIU. He gives amazing notes that will be used for the exams. Attendance not mandatory but you should definitely not miss lecture. Try to get previous exams as they will be very helpful.
Let's be honest, the only reason people write good reviews about Dr. Becker is because of his exam curves. His teaching methods are archaic and disorganized. I took Dr. Keller for Orgo 1 and learned far more. This guy spends (wastes) 1 month in the easiest topic and speeds through the last two weeks. Want to really learn Organic? Don't take Becker!
I think Becker is an AMAZING professor. Yes, he takes his sweet time the first month and speeds up quickly, but that's because the SUBJECT BUILDS ON ITSELF, Most of the stuff in the end is based on the original material you learned. AWESOME PROFESSOR, very welcoming, encourages office hours, big curves. I ended up loving organic chem because of him
Becker is brilliant, truly enjoys organic chemistry and can recite the textbook from his head. Can be a bit sloppy, but his notes are essential to his exams. If you put in a little work, you will definitely come out satisfied. Of course if your looking for the lazy way out then you shouldn't be in college, not to mention a premed student.
Make an appt if you want to get help! I never used his workbook but found Orgo As a 2nd Language was very helpful. He uses great analogies to teach hard topics. His exams are handwritten! He coddles with the easier material but speeds up at the end with the harder material. Read before class, practice problems, ask for help early, and you'll pass.
Great professor! Does not even look at the textbook, extremely smart! If you understand his notes , you will do well on his exams. Class curves are CRAZY, the lowest exam average was a 40
He is amazing! Took him for both Org 1 and 2. Got an A in both. Don't buy the text. It's useless. Learn his notes by heart. Sometimes he puts questions from his workbook. The old exams are VERY helpful. The TAs grade the exams. Go to him if you are unhappy with your exam grade. He will regrade the exam and give you extra points. Amazing curves.
extremely intelligent professor. teaches from the heart. would take him again in a heartbeat. made orgo enjoyable. only con: he likes to rush towards the end.
Easiness level is Hard because the subject itself is difficult but Prof Becker makes organic chem understandable. If you have to take this class, take is with Becker! Just go to class, take notes and practice. You should be fine if you do that.
Dr. Becker is the Best! I struggled a bit at first in his class because Orgo is a bit tough to wrap your brain around, but he is SUPER clear with what he expects. Exams are not bad at all. GO TO CLUTCH! and you will for sure get an A. This class does require commitment though. His curve is extremely fair! You won't regret taking Becker
Dr. B is a very fair professor who cares about the students. (You realize this when you go to office hours). In class he might not like answering your ?s but in person he loves to. This class requires a lot of time and studying. You can definitely get an A/A- if you do this. I recommend going to clutch than reading the book. I'm a visual learner.
I missed an exam, due to a medical condition, &he refused to let me make it up. My grade dropped from an A- to a C+. It's not right to punish a hard-working student for something that student can't control.
I took this class in Spring 2014. Becker is a great professor. He knows the material well and communicates it well. His notes are abit sloppy but they are helpful when studying. He made me interested in learning Organic Chem. :) Im already enrolled for Orgo 2 with him.
In my opinion he is the greatest orgo professor. His first 3 exams are supposed to be easy in order for you to get an A but the Final is going to be the hardest exam he gives and it is 50% SO DO OR DIE. Great grading scale I learned organic chemistry without even opening the textbook. No homework either just study and know mechanisms.
I took organic 1 and 2 with Professor Becker and he teaches Orgo clear and concise. There are 3 exams each worth 25% and the cumulative final is 50%. The textbook is not needed. Memorize and understand his notes by heart and it is possible to get an A - or even a B in the class. Go to his office hours! Do NOT ask ? In class he is easily frustrated
Becker is extremely knowledgeable on the topic but teaches the class like you are too. You have to teach yourself and go over most of the stuff he talks about during lecture. Outside tutoring.. etc. Understandingly, it's a 200 person class and he can't be thorough about everything. Tests aren't hard, definitely possible to get an A.
Dr. Becker is a good lecturer. He is extremely knowledgable about the subject. Tries to make organic chemistry as interesting as possible. I recommend going to class everyday. .His test are free response and he gives a lot of partial credit. He is fair He understands they are hard so he curves based class average. Would take him again
I've struggles in chemistry in the past but Dr Becker makes this class so much easier to tackle. He writes his entire lecture on the board by hand for students to follow along. As long as you go to class and participate in the lecture you'll be able to get through it. His tests come completely from the lecture. Go to class and go over notes.
This class to me was a little weird. There are zero assignments or homework. The only grades are tests. The lectures are so boring and he makes them more complicated & harder to understand. I would go home and watch videos and understand everything in 5 seconds. Many skipped class and just came for tests.
He oversimplifies the material and when you take the exam, you are completely lost. I wish I took it with another professor because my grade would not have been a D. Take the Dr. Stojanovic or anyone else.
Impossible exams! Nothing compared to what he taught in class
If if only Sandra would teach orgo 2. He's a great lecturer but it doesn't compare to when you take the exams. He doesn't go in depth with concepts. An intense course with over 50 mechanisms so be prepared
I had to retake orgo because of him. I only wish he made the exams easier. All the practice problems weren't enough to pass his hard exams
Take it with Stojanovic or De la Vega that way you don't have to study incredibly hard and be disappointed by your grade
Confusing lectures and to simplified for the online he gives. His exams are tough. Don't take it with another hard course. I had five classes and it was hard to keep up with orgo 2 so I dropped because I was failing
His exams are a mix of multiple choice and fil in the blank. Get ready for a lot of work. There was only 50 students in one semester due to everyone dropping. I have to retake the course again but not with him. Take him if he's your only option or wait a semester for Sandra
You will pass his class if you work hard. Amazing lecturer
Take him before his class fills up. It's hard to get an A but you will learn. 4 exams; the hardest exam is the second third and fourth exam. It only gets more complicated so don't take hard science courses
4 tough exams; the material is hard don't take it with any other science course. No extra credit. Work hard! If he's the only professor, I would take it with another professor because his lectures are condensed compared to the exams so go by the book.
Its obvious he knows his stuff but 'teaching' isnt slowly REWRITING full sentences on a tiny white board for 200+ hall This is refusal to get with the times With all the amazing 3D pictures of chemical structures online, this is a waste, it is the study of PHYSICAL matter after all. Really sad that I'm paying so much for this.
Dr. Becker is an excellent Organic Chemistry professor. He is the first professor at FIU that has made me actually want to go to class and his office hours. He presents the material crystal clear and provides examples as he goes. Tests are very realistic and have a favorable curve, nearly impossible to fail. The review below is just salty/trivial.
This professor should not be a professor! He is rude, very unorganized, not willing to use technology, he has HANDWRITTEN EXAMS and a terrible grading. DO NOT take this professor, it should be a shame to the University. He will treat you bad if you go to office hours, even if you email hi first he will be late to your appointment and not be helpful
Prof Becker is a great professor. I am taking him right now and for sure I know I will get an A. He writes his notes on a board so be sure get a front seat. Do not ask stupid questions cause he will get rude. His test are straightforward if you good to class and take notes. Some example of the notes is on the test. Orgo 1 is not easy so study.
It is organic, it will be hard and a lot of material but as long as you go to class and understand what he is doing you get a decent grade. not if u really want the A work for it, get the clutch reviews which are the best way to study . lectures tedious but easy to understand
3 tests that are all Written, Not Multiple Choice. Gives partial credit. Chooses 2 highest test grades (25% + 25%50% of total grade). FINAL EXAM is cumulative and makes up the other 50% of your grade. It is the hardest one, but it is not impossible. Mainly study his notes and use book to reinforce material on what he COVERS if needed. Curves
The best way to study for Becker's class is to go over your notes e.g. he won't test you on anything that doesn't pertain to what was covered in class. That being said, READ AHEAD! He will go super slow the whole semester (making the first two tests really easy) but then cram in all the hardest stuff in the last 2 weeks.
Becker could do better. I honestly felt that this class was going to be easy, especially after his first two exams. But towards the last few weeks, from the third test to the final exam, he decided to cram the bulky materials in such a fast pace. His final exam was in such a way that you had to really dig deep during your studying.
he is an ok proffesor, the class seems easy at the beginning but then he went through the chapters too fast. it is not the worst for organic chemistry but could use some help with time management. very nice person !
Dr. Becker is a very intelligent person so sometimes he has a hard time dumbing down the information, but if you go to him after class or during office hours he is more than happy to help you. He takes it easy in the beginning then speeds up towards the third and final exam. The course is doable if you take good notes. Clutch reviews help.
Dr. Becker is an amazing professor who really cares about his students. He may seem intimidating but he is willing to help you learn in all aspects. His tests are based of the class lectures, so don't miss class. If you do prepare to buy into clutch. He loves to use his own "Beckerisms" and makes tests questions very specific to himself.
Becker is one of the most genuine professors I have ever had! He really loves what he does and is very knowledgable. Yes, the class encompasses a lot of material but it is an upper level class, and he expects students to be able to put time and effort into learning. Make sure you take good notes and study that. Practice a lot and an A is possible.
Dr. Becker is an awesome professor. He truly loves teaching organic chemistry. His tests are based heavily on his lecture, so take good notes during lecture. Clutch is a good thing to have if you want extra practice, but it is not a good alternative to self teaching. I thought his final was really easy, just have to study the correct material.
Dr. Becker is a really awesome professor. Really does the most for his students and cares if they pass. Huge curve. Just go to class and take notes and you should be fine!
This man is a genius. What other professor just strolls into class with no notes, no powerpoint, no nothing and can lecture just off his memory? Honestly, Becker's teaching style isn't for everyone. However, you do learn you just have to put a little extra effort. His exams are easy and he is helpful during his office hours!
I like Becker's teaching style and he goes into depth of the subject he is lecturing, however, this semester he seems to have a bad temper when students ask him questions in class. Maybe because of short lecture time (50 min). Read before and after class, study his lecture notes well, do homework, and practice from his workbook and you'll be fine.
Dr. Becker is the brightest and most efficient proffesor Ive had throughout my studies. I came back to school to retake some classes and my Orgo was extremely rusty the first week. However, with diligent study and absolute attention to his lectures, you can ace every single exam AND the final. This class will make you a better student, guaranteed.
Dr. Becker knows a LOT about organic chemistry and his lectures are excellent and easy to follow. Take him if you are a good self-learner. Now here is the HUGE problem with Becker, he indirectly encourages cheating. People blatantly cheated throughout Test 1-3 and he turns a blind eye. Why is this a problem? Because he curves!
YOU NEED clutch & to attend class. Know everything mentioned in class, its very straight forward. Study from old exams as they are almost identical. He is so sweet and his lectures are great if you pay attention. He goes very slow at first I warns you that he will go fast at the end, so make sure before finals youre many chapters ahead.
Truth be told, he is a genius. That being said, this class will only make you an amazing cheater, at best. You are asked to memorize dozens of values, reagents and exceptions and use them flawlessly. He rushed one whole chapter in last 2 lectures and people cheat like crazy. This messes up the curve, and he doesn't seem to care. Cheat and pass...
He's incredibly smart , but he has no patience for questions. He hates whenever students ask him questions in class and can be really rude about it. CLUTCH is saving my life in this class. There's 4 exams including the Final. Each exam is 10 questions each and all free response. He curves A LOT and replaces your lowest exam grade.
He is a really good professor and his lectures are amazing and filled with information. He curves all the exams, no homework due but he does give for practice. Grade is based on exams (3 midterms, lowest dropped+ 1 cumulative final). He definitely knows his stuff too and teaches very well.
This class is graded completely on 3 exams, your final is worth 50% . of your grade and it is HARD. Buy clutch prep and pray that the curve is in your favor.
His exams are heavily based on lecture. Write everything down because that one you thing you think he's gonna test you on, he will! Going to class helps a lot if you can follow as he explains; otherwise you're wasting your time and you should just get the notes from a good notetaker. His exams are really hard but really curved so actually easy
I absolutely loved this teacher. The exams are not hard if you study his old exams. The questions are unique and challenging but not impossible. He's very intelligent and overqualified to teach this class. He cares a lot if u come see him and will give away extra point towards your grade. If you get a bad grade in this class its on you and only you
Becker is a great person who cares for his students and wants the best for them. The class itself consists of lectures. There are 3 tests and he drops the lowest grade. The final is the hardest thing ever and makes up 50% of your grade (which is ridiculous) Really have to focus, study, memorize everything everything to pass.
Becker is an amazing professor, sweet and caring of his students. His grading scale is based on two exams (each worth 25%) and a final (worth 50%). He assigns "homework" but in reality is problems that he hopes you do to understand the material, he neither collects nor checks it. he is very thorough and gives amazing lectures. He is a genius.
If you study the old exams, take good notes and know what you're doing to at least some degree, you will be fine. The exams are curved and he gives partial credit on the answers. Not a punitive grader and gives 3 midterms and 1 final that is worth 50% of your grade. The lowest of your 3 midterms will be dropped.
He is a nice person OUTSIDE the classroom, he's the easiest professor, which is no good if u r doing a biol or chem major. He doesn't teach & uses little white boards which suck bc if u r seated far in the room u r not going to be able to see a thing. drops the lowest grade, out of 3, & gives a final SUPER HARD worth 50%. study by your own & pass
Dr. Becker is very knowledgeable about the subject that he teaches. However, he starts off very slow and then sped up towards the end of the semester. He tried his best to fit mechanisms (key concepts) within a couple of lectures that were very rushed. Your grade is based on two midterm exams and the final which are curved. I
Dr. Becker doesn't really give you a "plan" to study off of. You just have to go with his drift which consists of lecture notes written on white dry erase boards. He does not do any kind of powerpoint notes or study guide, it's just based on what you do in lecture and the book problems he assigns (which he doesn't check).
Becker is a great professor. He writes everything on the boards and he is pretty easy to follow. I took him because my Orgo 1 background was very poor and it al went great. I recommend him if you dont know a lot of chemistry.
He is very knowledgeable in the material. However, he has poor time management. Key concepts in organic chemistry, such as mechanisms, were squeezed into 2-3 lectures. His final exam was completely different from previous mid-term exams and was extremely hard. Which sucks since it's 50% of your final grade. All exams are curved heavily.
Dr. Becker is very knowledgeable on the topic of Organic Chemistry 2 however I don't think he is very good at teaching it and I think thats why his curves are so huge. He started of very slowly 1 or 2 chapters on the first two tests then rushed toward the ending of the semester. Use clutch and past exams and hope for the curve!
Very smart guy but his lectures dont help :( get ready to learn chem on your own. Also, hes anti-technology so all material is from his handwritten notes. Orgo is a hard subject as it is but i think he makes it more difficult. Would recommend taking another teacher if you really wanna Learn and not just get by. He doesnt like answering questions
Doesn't like change. Stuck in the old ways. Not that I mind hand written notes on the board, actually I rather like that a lot but students do not feel confident in his class due to his rude behavior and lack of respect for anyone not from MIT. He'll let you know all about his time at MIT and how cool it must be to be him, an MIT graduate. MIT
Prof Becker is amazing. He goes straightforward for what he needs from you! don't ready book or anything. Just go to the lecture, understand the content, make your own notes, and do the old tests to practice.
Graded by only exams: 3 Midterms (drops lowest) and 1 Final. He lectures a lot and very fast, kind of expects you to know some things already. Ask a question, he gets obviously annoyed by it. There is a history of cheating during his exams, and he turns a blind-eye to it. The only reason I got an A in class without cheating was by the savior CLUTCH
I loved his class he makes organic chemistry fun and easy.
Orgo 2 is a hard class but fortunately its really hard to fail with Dr. Becker. First of all he's a genius he doesn't even use the book or his notes during lectures, its all from memory. I took him remotely because COVID and we were only graded on exams. His curves are god-like a C can easily become a B so its hard to fail his class.
I literally have no clue how this man has the brain capacity that he does but everything is written on a white board (even through zoom) and pulled out of his brain. Not the best at explaining things and his test are 10x more complex than the examples he does in class. Use outside resources (khan academy, clutch, etc) and you will for sure pass
TAKE HIM!! Dr. Becker is an amazing professor. His exams are based on all his lectures and also past exams. There are 3 exams and 1 final. Out of the 3 exams, 2 are counted (25% each for these 2; lowest exam grade gets dropped). The final is worth 50% of your final course grade. There is no hw, but he does assign practice problems to study.
If you want to be in art class then take him. He literally draws everything without giving a explanation that can be understood. Many of the concepts he just speaks about from his memory not realizing we are there to learn. I didnt learn anything except how to draw if that matters. I wouldnt take him again!
the exams are so much more in depth than what he goes over. no study guides for the exams, he literally said "whatever was on the board is fair game" so prepare to dive deep into whatever he covers because he wont.
I recommend this professor if you want to do good in orgo. The class consists of three midterms (25% each, one gets dropped) and 50% final. Class is difficult but Becker makes it better and has office hours of great use. You can also use the book and practice resources if you need extra reinforcement. Take Becker if you really want to pass
He's doesn't have a great teaching style but he curves the exams like an animal! Just understand the concepts and make sure you study every day. If you don't understand the concept, just watch youtube videos and do practice problems on the internet. he is the only organic chemistry professor that is the best than sandra and konstain. TAKE HIM:)
Idky people say he's easy when his tests are difficult. He goes way more in-depth on the material than other Orgo professors who barely scratch the surface. The only people that benefit from the curve are the ones that are failing and are content with a C or a B. For the students that want an A, it comes at a cost due to students that fail.
You are only graded on 4 exams. He provides the tools for you to do well. His lectures are spot on I took him for both Orgo 1 and 2 during COVID and I think it was advantageous to have him on video recordings because he only uses boards to lecture. He has provided a solid Orgo foundation for me as I have gone on to professional school. 10/10
There are 3 midterm exams and one final exam. The lowest of the three midterm grades is dropped. The professor curves the exams. He provides everything you need during the lectures. He assigns some homework problems for practice, but they are not mandatory. Excellent professor, teaches very well. Take him!
Best professor I have ever had. If you want to take this class, be prepared to take down your own notes, do the practice questions, and STUDY. If you don't study at all you won't pass this class. But let's face it, this isn't a simple class and you must know what he is talking about for the exams. Do the work and put the effort. Take him 100%.
No homework, your ENTIRE grade is made-up of tests. Becker is also very unforgiving when it comes to missing/excused exams, I had to attend a funeral and it was not counted as an excused absence because I only told him a week prior (thats when I found out the funeral was scheduled). Orgo is hard enough, your professor shouldn't make it harder!

Curves test heavily, making it almost impossible to fail him. 3 test, 1 final Take him u won't regret it ever.
I got an A in this course by going to lectures although not graded and doing past exams, he does curve on all exams including the final. class is graded on 3 midterms although 1 gets dropped and the final. 25% for both midterms and 50% for the final.
Becker's org chem class is tough, but manageable if you put in the work. Attend lectures, use the textbook, and try unstuckstudy for helpful practice questions. Exams are challenging, but the curve makes it doable. Overall, a worthwhile class if you're willing to put in the effort.
