Tests are impossible; TAs do not help
Homework scale takes some getting used to, but it works.
He stutters a lot and often loses his place while teaching during class...beware
Very interesting guy; fair grading system
Grading system seems unfrair, but lecture is clear and he's open to questions
Grading scale very unfair; TA's suck and he won't help with homework problems.
interesting prof. unfair grading policy, lectures long and garbled..
60% on HW and 84% on tests = A. If you think that's unfair, you're a nitwit.
He doesnt help with homework problems
Not too tough of a class.
Grading system is different but very open to high grades if you stay up on class
Exams curved nicely. Clear enough lectures for material of this nature.
Cornball humor, but ok. Curves real good and gives EC sometimes.
Grading scale a little odd, but works. Stay on top of things and you'll be fine
YOU CAN'T DO THAT! -- one of the many crazy ramblings...
HW impossible, unclear, inaccurate, and lack of wardrobe makes class intolerable
He's the worst teacher I've ever had. He growled at me in class
Good teacher, mildly entertaining compared to most math teachers.
Just picture Sean Connery playing the role of santa clause
Has trouble explaining things, probably wouldn't be passing unless for TA
wasnt too kind with EC this semester, tests were average, bad TA
Lectures are long and jumbled, grading is odd, and the TA's are not helpfulpfu

hard class, awful teacher, wouldn't have passed if not for the TA
Has a weird grading policy but a good grading scale, makes it easy to pass
Always answers questions in class, different grading scale but keeps u on track.
kinda weird...TA helped explain what he couldn't...easy to do well if you do hw.
smart guy, but can't explain material well. ridiculous grading policy.
overall good teacher, do homework and you will do well
Find a tutor fast, his grading scheme is god awful
very unclear, grading scale is non-existant, cannot answer questions clearly
he's ok. i'd be afraid to know him socially.
go to class, do half the homeworks, you get a 100. weird guy though........
I think this man needs serious help.
Do the homework and go to class and you will do well!
Grading scale VERY unfair
do half the homeworks and bonus pts....easy A
He's like "wrestling an alligator and playing a violin at the same time."
A fun guy with a different grading method that maks the class simple to pass.
too smart to be teaching.. he's horrible- you won't understand anything
Bellamy is a hardcore mathematician, shouldn't teach undergrad courses
homeworks hard, bad ta, cluttered lectures, stutering problem maybe from drugs
uncoherent teaching, ridiculous grading scale, not very helpful!!!!!!!!!
He's a witch, not kidding. It was in the school paper.
Extremely bright but can't relate material down to the class... take some1 else!
Easy A. Lectures are extremely tedious and pointless. But he's a nice guy.
HW is hard but tests aren't to bad. grading looks rough but u just have to work
This guy is the worst teacher I've had at UD, worst class ever! If you can take it with someone else I recommend doing so.
really wierd grading scale but an 84 is an A or if you get 30 hw questions right- test are somewhat had in the begining but the second half of the semester is not hard at all
Great teacher...learned a lot from him.
Whoever said he was a great teacher is nuts. Its not a bad class if you're good at math, but the TA taught me more than him. Possible to get an A. He has his old exams on a website, which can help you for the final.
EASY, EASY, EASY...
HE is the worst teacher ever
what a bad teacher, grade system is horrible, learn more for TA, how is this guy a teachers
Class was extremely easy. I am a math person, though. I can see where some would think it is hard. He's not the best at explaining stuff.
class not too easy, and not too hard, if i got an A in it, id have to say that at least 70% of math people who take the class should get an A. the first few weeks are kind of tough, so get through that, and you should be in the clear
Finite Math is a hard course in general. 1st exam-impossible, 2nd exam-average, 3rd exam-easy (I got an A on the last exam). Not an easy class and not the best teacher for the class. Makes up his own Homework Questions sometimes not related to material.
god forbid someone made you think. he amuses me.
pretty tough course but he's a good guy. horrible grading scale though-takes the lowest of your homework grade and your test grade. I had a 96% average on tests but had only 28 homework problems correct when i needed 30, so I got a B.
I don't know how this guy is a teacher. Don't get me wrong- I'm sure he's brilliant, but he cannot express his thoughts verbally at ALL. He is very confusing and his grading system is ridiculous. Much love to the TA sessions... they saved me.
The Worst of the Worst. Avoid any of his classes at all costs. Not willing to give you extra help. You have been warned!!!
Class is a piece of cake for math-minded students but may be challenging for others. It's required for business majors so those students who just want the business classes will not enjoy this, but I thought it was easy and almost fun!

Worse class of my life. This man is horrible. Homework is impossible. All, this stuff about loving him if you are a "math minded student" is a bunch of crap. Unless you are a serious massicist and you enjoy both mental and emotional pain, avoid him.
wow, i've never seen a class mutiny like that - teachers and students heatedly yelling at each other
DO NOT take this course...he is a horrible teacher and you'll find yourself lettin ur mind drift cuz he's so boring and confusing a teacher shud be able to clarify his statements a lil better...if u do hav to take this course make sure u attend disc. sections!!!!...
Very Straitfoward teacher. Don't know why everyone has such a problem with him. He loves math, and is very fair in grading. Grading scale is interesting, and is meant to HELP students. Do the homework, get a good grade!
Horrible class. Smart guy but terrible at teaching. Strange grading scale makes getting an A tough. Sit in the back and make new friends, its more better than paying attention.
Grading system is weird and stressful. He's a genuinely nice guy and wants you to succeed but isn't very helpful during office hours. Take every opportunity you can to go to the board.
Decent guy, can be funny, but grading is very strange. Homework, tests, and notes correlate very strangely. He tends not to keep his TA well-informed, so, while the one I had was good and clear, the way she taught didn't always match up with what he wanted us to do. Book was a better teacher than he was, though.
very confusing, avoid as best as possible.
The WORST experience of my life. He has no clue how to teach and tests on random and extremely hard material. The calc book is absolutely no help. Just pray that you get a good TA, that's the only way that you will pass the class!! Avoid this man at any and all costs!
Hes not that bad. Not very helpful at all though. Avoid him and try to talk to the TA. How to get an easy A: Go to class and discussion, do as many HW problems as you can, and be prepared when he give out bonus pts. Do this and you'll need to average about a 75 on the tests to get an A.
His grading policy is much different than other profs. Go to the board as much as possible and ask if you can redo your problem so you get full credit. As long as you try your hardest on every problem and ask inciteful questions, you'll do fine. Also, Bellamy is a great guy with a corny sense of humor...all math majors will like his corny jokes!!!
Grading system is stressful at first. Easy class if you do ALL the homework problems then the final can be exempted. Try to get the project done early too and do a few mini projects. A slacker's nitemare, but really not terribly difficult.
Quite possibly the worst teacher that you could ever have.
SUCKS!!!
Material can be difficult if you fall behind. Bottom line is you only need an 84% to get an A. Plus he gives a decent amount of extra credit. Basically, if you go to class, discussion, and do the hw...youll be fine.
I dont know how he became a teacher, he is the worst professor. I got A's in math but he made it impossible. TAKE MY WORD DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
not the best at explaining the material, but it's honestly not bad. Exam problems are much easier than homework problems and the discussion/TA helps a lot.
why doesn't everyone seem to dislike him?he's pretty cool and i like the crazy hair and the pentagram ring. he's not stuck up or focused on appearing smart like many in the dept.he wants to help students. plus he gives out free homework points if you catch an error of his. the class starts off hard but gets gradually easier. grading system is nuts!
I took 2 years of calc in high school so the class wasn't that bad for me, but if I did not know what I was doing already it would be. He gives a lot of extra points but the homework is still harder than the tests and be prepared to teach yourself. He stands in front of what he is teaching so you can't read it. Make sure to call him on mistakes.
He is so boringggg. only 50 min but i wanted to die after 30. u think u r doing horrible at times but the way the grading is, u r easily getting an A. just keep up with homeworks. don't bother asking a question, he looks at u weird and basically says that ur a stupid worthless soul in a southern accent
The first day of class you will think it is impossible to get an A, but his grading scale isn't as bad as it sounds. Do the homework early in the semester so you don't have to do it at the end. The tests problems are easier than the homework, but he grades pretty strict. The lectures are confusing at times. Go to the TA's office hours for help
"It's like comparing apples to Tuesday." ---- Greatest quote EVER!!!! This guy was wacky, but that stuck with me.
Tests arn't terribly hard, but grades extremely hard on them. Do the homework early in the year. Grading scale is rediculous.
Enjoy the class a lot so far. Very logical and clear lectures. Prof. is definately great in his field.
This professor did not teach the material. You do not want to teach yourself finite mathematics if you don't have to. Avoid this professor if possible... also horrible grading scale.
Avoid like the plague.
terrible teacher
Awful
One of the worst I've ever had. Grading system is ridiculous; made-up homework problems almost impossible. Exams all ~5 problems & open ended, very little partial credit. Races through lectures while presenting incomprehensible methods. Class is 10x more difficult than it has to be. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Dr. Bellamy is a nice guy but proofs are hard. You earn your grade by doing proofs on the chalkboard. Each correct proof equals 5 points. 75 points in class=A,70=A- ,65=B+,60=B, and so on. You can make up your own proof called a conjecture for 5 points. Test and final are optional and cannot hurt your grade. 9 out 12 kids got A's (including me)
Horrible teacher. If you have prior calculus experience you'll be okay, but for an introductory teacher, he's awful, you basically have to know the entire course before taking it to pass.
If you haven't taken Calc before don't take him. I'm a math major and I HATED this class. Very unclear and doesn't explain very well. the test questions are very hard and not written well. The majority of the class was getting the hw problems right so he made them harder.
He really wasn't as bad as what the other ratings say. I was terrified at first, but once you get to learn how he teaches it gets better. His grading scale seems crazy at first but it's actually pretty easy to pass. If you don't understand anything in class(which can happen often) the TA's are great. Plus he'll give you equations and such for exams
Bellamy is not the typical Calc 1 teacher. His lectures are hard to follow if you haven't had calc before. I was scared at first, but I then learned his teaching method. If you don't understand lectures, TA's help significantly. This is not an easy calc 1 class, but it is interesting if you like math. I'm getting an A, but I've had Calc before.
The material for this class is hard. No matter who you take it with, you will want to rip your hair out, but I suggest taking it with Bellamy. He is brilliant and incredibly fair. Homework is harder than the exam. He gives you definitions and formulas during the exam. Unique grading scale but it can work in your favor.
Difficult if you haven't taken calculus before... you have to teach yourself the material.
Honestly a very nice guy. Proof is tough but take advantage that the beginning is easy and rack up points then. Unique grading system, as I have earned enough points where I have an A right now and can skip the final. Genuinely liked him.
he is actually terrible. he doesn't make sense in lectures and is extremely unclear on what is to be expected. GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN.
If you get Bellamy, GET OUT NOW!!! Seriously switch to a different professor! Just took my 2nd exam in his class and it was worse than the first one, which I got a 55% on. He should be teaching grad students, not freshmen and sophomores. Too late to drop or audit the course. I will probably end up losing my scholarship over this course.
He is a very good professor. I can get a pretty good grade on his exam. He just give a little homework a week and no on-line homework.
A great professor. A litter home+not required participation. It's easy to gain A. I got 100+ in all three exams.
The teacher is nice. Grading system is great. It is easy to get a good grade if you work hard. Calculus teacher can not teach you every single algebra. This teacher can give students a good start. You need to work on them after class. He does not care about the antecedence and texting during class. Just a little homework will be provided.
Easy class if you've already taken calculus. If you haven't, you're going to have to study a lot. He teaches through sample problems, then assigns very similar ones for homework. Tests are pretty easy, he gives 5 questions on each test where each problem is worth 25 points but the test is graded out of 100 points. Overall, easy class.
he's not exactly a good professor. If you have to take him, don't sweat it but I wouldn't choose to have him. Nobody really knows what he's talking about, but he usually gives an overall feeling of what the exams look like. Grade is based on the lower of your test grade and hw grade, so it's important that you do your hw. Not impossible to get A/B
You should avoid Bellamy..Not a good professor at all. Tests are very hard, and he doesn't care about his students' grades at all. AVOID
He isn't always the most clear and doesn't necessarily get up to teach this course. He makes you learn proofs by presenting them. Its pretty easy to rack up points and he has a unique grading scale that pretty much gaurentees you to pass if you come to class
Bellamy is one of the worst professors I've ever had. He really doesnt care if you understand the material or if you pass the class. He tells you to ask questions but then makes you feel stupid for asking that question. Seriously, dont take him unless you want to fail
I'm taking this class now, and it's most likely the most difficult class I have ever taken. Don't expect to learn too much from the lectures as the notation can be quite confusing. If you don't understand one little detail, it's unlikely you'll be able to fully comprehend the proof or theorem he's writing on the board. READ the text and do the HW.
I think Bellamy is great. You don't have a textbook in this class. I love the way he grades his students. Basically if you work hard enough you will get an A in the class, and it doesn't matter how you do on exams. He's a nice guy, terrible with names. Still doesn't know mine. Taking him again next semester.
I took him when i had no other options. He's the easiest of the professors, just the class material is somewhat confusing. His grading system is weird but makes it easy. His Exams are easier than homeworks by far, and you can study with friends for the homework. Would recommend him.
The class is not tough like people talked about, but this professor is not good one to take. In the class, he just follow his thoughts to talk in spite of whether students can follow or not. handwriting is confusing.
He uses a point-based grading system for all of his classes, so if you put the work in early, you don't have to take the final or show up for the last few weeks of class. Get up to the board to do some proofs as soon as possible.
150 points is an A and you get points for asking questions, going to class, and doing proofs. If you put the work in you'll get an A.
His lectures are so frustrating: he just stands at the board and rambles on without actually checking if you understand it or not. He gives a normal amount of homework which are pretty hard, but the test questions are always easier than the homework. You have to put in a lot of individual effort in order to do well.
At first, Bellamy seems awful. Discrete is a pretty tough subject and he is unorganized as can be. He writes out long boring proofs that you can pretty much space out and ignore a lot of the time. However, even though his grading scales seem super weird, if you put in a decent amount of effort in it is actually fairly easy to get an A.
This class is really dumb and easy. The grading system seems hard but he is very generous with points. Half the class didn't take the final because he said it couldn't hurt your grade and we already had A's.
Professor Bellamy is not as bad as he seems the first week of class. He doesn't have a Sakai or Canvas page so you must keep track of your grades yourself, but he is a great professor. Homework is hard, but you do not have to complete all of them to get an A. Exams are the easiest part of the class, which is a nice change of pace for a math class.
Professor Bellamy is not a good professor at all. His grading system consists of a homework grade and a test grade, and whichever is lower is your average. 2 of the tests are kind of easy, but one is very hard and it will ruin your average. He is also not good at explaining anything.
He is very unorganized but he focuses on the grammar and making sure you understand how to use each word and conjugation properly. You do get graded on your attendance but if you still turn in your work and show an understanding of the material he will cut you some slack. He gives you until the end of the semester to make up any written or online.
