Probably one of my favourite profs at the U of C. Very funny, very interesting and extremely knowledgeable. I took the class two years ago and still remember everything I learned.

I've had a lot of professors in a lot of different schools. Dr. Bershad is the best of them by no small margin. I ended up taking three art history courses I absolutely couldn't afford and didn't need because he was teaching them.

Bershad is wicked. He tells funny anedotes, he's really enthusiastic about the subject matter, and he actually KNOWS what he's talking about.

Dr Bershad ROCKS! I have never enjoyed learning more. Lectures are like having coffee with a friend. Extreamly approachable and encourages you to be successful. And talk about hot...what distinguished, intellegent, gentleman wouldn't the ladies undivided attention.

He was a very fair and helpful teacher. You have to go to class to do well, but if you listen you will do well on the exams. He gives alot of bonus marks! highly recomended

Extremely interesting classes and teaching style. Huge giver of free marks, however disagree with 130 M.C. question exams where the testing is on your ability to remember the most minute of details. I fail to see how this testing benefits my ability to cognitively think.

tests were quite challenging but i learned so much. he speakes really fast but is very clear an always repeates words when he spells them out. Very personable, it's been over a year since i had a class with him and he still remembers me.

I cannot put into words how much I loved this class! Never skipped it once, and I skip everything. Totally interesting and fun, and Bershad is excellent. The man is a genius and he's hilarious too! No final exam, he curves the grades, and he gives you half the exam in advance. Hands down my fav. class ever.

Fantasic prof. Super fun class. The test were kind of hard, relatively speaking, but he makes up for that by giving you some of the answers and bell curving the tests (in the students' favor).

I'm another person who skips EVERYTHING, and I never missed one of Bershad's classes. He is an incredibly engaging prof, and a fair marker too. I am even trying to figure out a schedule that allows me to take another one of his courses, even though at this point it wouldn't fill any of my degree requirements.

Exellent prof. gives a clear idea of what to study for and most info is dealt with in the lecture if you are paying attention, which is easy to do in his class. as a bonus, the man is hilarious and always willing to joke around with you, even minutes before the midterm.

Exams are much improved at 300 level (essay format slide analysis primarily). There isn't a textbook for this course so it is absolutely required to attend most lectures. Otherwise excellent prof, fascinating material. Highly recommended.

Handsdown, the best professor at UofC. His tests are hard and his lectures are VERY fast paced, but I learned so much! Very funny guy. Makes the subject matter facinating. I found his class so captivating that I made an effort to never miss a single one. Cant wait to see him in Arhi 359!

Amazing professor...very helpful and respectful to his students. Goes out of his way to help you when you need it. Very intelligent and passionate about Art History. The U of C wouldn't be a half bad place if more professors approached their job the way Dr. Bershad does!

Dr. B is the George Clooney of Art History. :) He's a fascinating and passionate instructor with a wicked sense of humour who gives funny and interesting exams. Classes are very intense, so don't miss any if you don't have to. Art History is my new passion, thanks to Dr. B. He's in my top 3 favourite profs in 4 years. Take his class!!

What can you say about this man except that he is pure genius. His exams are difficult, but he prepares you for them more than adequately. Take excellent notes, attend his lectures and you'll have your best University experience hands down.

He is an awesome prof! This course is pretty hard if your not a religious person. It was quite difficult but so incredibly interesting. I would take another art history class it it was with Dr. Bershad...hes actually a really cool guy.

I adore this man! Being an engineering student, his art history class was a breath of fresh air. His tests are long, but only hard if you don't do the required ready. Work hard in this class, and it'll pay off. His lectures end short and they blow by, his slides and info is so interesting! Love him!

Prof Bershad is the best prof I've had. He's very fun, even if some of his jokes are lame. The tests were amazingly easy, with atleast 4 give-aways questions (pictures of him,asking who the subject is.)I didn't think I would like the course (only took it becuase it fit my schedule) but I ended up LOVING it!! I recommend this class to anyone.

The class is mandatory, I'm not kidding when I say that you WILL fail if you don't go. That being said...This was one of the BEST classes ever. The subject matter is very interesting (even for those who aren't religious in any way) Bershad makes lots of lame jokes, but he's still awesome, the tests are very simple.He very nice, and very helpful!

A very interesting and good prof. I would recommend taking a class with him. He is clear and interesting. The textbook wasn't really very useful. If you attend class and take notes then doing well in this class isn't hard. The tests are reasonable and fair.

Very interesting, inspiring, and intelligent gentleman. I learned more than i could have imagined in my first year and thank him for all his insight, humour, kindness, and care. Take a class with him, i guarantee you will NOT regret it. HIs tests were fair, slide analyses were tricky but support your them with legit facts you will be OK :)

Great Prof. One of the best i've ever had. Made art history very enjoyable. Expect a lot of religious terms/concepts so it can be a little annoying if you're a liberal or not religious type of person. Still, the tests were very easy and i recommend anyone take this class with him!

Dr Bershad is an amazing professor, I had no interest in Art History but I loved attending his class. He is EXTREMELY helpful so as long as you attend class and take notes- you will get an A :)

Dr. Bershad is like a demi-god. Brilliant and witty, he makes you love an 8 AM class. Lectures are extremely clear and rigorous. This guy made me fall head over heals in love with art history.

Bershad is an amazing teacher...he actually cares about his students and he wants you to do well. I like that we don't have text book for this class so all our knowledge comes from note taking in class. His exams are easy because he tells you basically what to expect, so as long as you study that then you are sure to get at least a B+

He is very knowledgeable and passionate about his job, and his lectures are always funny and interesting. He cares about his students and prepared us for his exams by almost giving us the test question.

He is seriously the best prof ever. Super funny, doesn't take himself too seriously, takes the time to help you if you ask, and actually knows, in depth, what he's talking about. Really refreshing. One of those classes you actually wanna go to, even if it is at 8:00 in the morning. Kinda like Batman, without the cape.

Fantastic professor!

Dr. Bershad is amazing. Before I took this class I knew almost nothing about art and religion. Now I feel knowledgable and want to travel to Italy so bad. Attendance in his class is 100% mandatory, but lectures are entertaining so there is no reason why you wouldn't want to go to class. And as an added bonus, he looks just like George Clooney!

David is by the far the best prof. teaching at the UofC. He is exceptionally clear of what you can anticipate on exams, as there are never trick questions. I really enjoyed the class, however, it'd be nice if there weren't so many questions on every exam.

Dr. Bershad makes art history super interesting. I had this class at 8am and I still went to every class. He's enthusiastic and throws in some humor here and there to keep the class interested. Let the man lecture and ask your questions at the end. Be sure to take notes and do the readings. If you do that, the tests will be easy - no tricks at all

An amazing prof excited about his work and dedicated to helping us to the best of his abilities. Witty and funny his lessons are always filled with jokes that can make things easier to remember. Although classes contain a lot of notes as long as you take them down you'll do amazing on any exams. Text book not required but has some support material

GREAT PROF! After taking 201 with Stocking I was discouraged from taking 203, but I am glad I did. He makes the class really interesting and funny. He presents the material in a way that makes you want to pay attention. It's like a puzzle and you want to kind out all the secrets hidden in the art like the Da Vinci Code. Kinda like Indiana Jones.

Best teacher I've ever had. You can tell that he not only loves Art History, but that we wants his students to love it as well, and he does a good job of making us love it. His tests aren't easy, but they are engaging and enjoyable, and even if you just attend the lectures and sit there listening to him, you will get a good mark in this class.

Has an uncanny ability to make you super interested in Art History when you may previously have thought it was just an "easy A". Beware, you may fall in love with the subject and switch majors.

Dr.Bershad has the looks of George Clooney and the dance skills of Lady Gaga. Don't let his athletic talent intimidate you.. he may be young and agile but he teaches the course like a gentle lion.

Dont pass up a chance to take a class from him. Very entertaining professor. Even 8am classes are a pleasure to take from him. Very fair marker. In higher level ARHI, lets you write an essay on almost anything you want as long as you connect it to art history.

Very funny and enthusiastic about the subject. Class is mandatory (to take notes on the pieces of art). If you're Catholic, you would be quite familiar with the backstories related to the pieces of art. Textbook is not necessary at all. Tests are long but quite easy. Be sure to take thorough notes!

I took art history because a friend of mine told me to... because of Bershad, I grew to truly want to know more about art. Definitely taking more of his classes as he is an excellent prof.

Disclaimer: I have never had this man instruct one of my classes, nor have I ever take an art history class. But this man is a genious. I've seen him speak on several occasions on topics from Leonardo DaVinci to comic books and he never ceases to entertain. He's absolutely brilliant and I'm devasted knowing I won't be able to take his class.

Truly a gift to the academic universe. The man is truly the best looking individual on campus, his resemblance to George Clooney is uncanny. With the slim profile of an NFL punter, but the build of a quarterback, he is often mistaken as a student. The best lecture we had was when he brought us tequila and lit fireworks. 8am class, and I was excited to get up for every one! very entertaining lectures and you will remember the information if you simply listen because he is very engaging.

Is seriously the smartest person I will ever meet. Like an old Indiana Jones talking about history as if he were there. The most kind-hearted person. Genuinely cares about his students and will take the time to get to know you. only 2 exams, just be sure to review notes all the time and attend every lecture. Love to Bershad!!!

Dr. Bershad is a UofC gem. Everyone should experience at least one of his classes. He is helpful, great with questions and super funny. Anche, lui e' bello!

Dr. B is a really great prof, though he does get distracted in class... But I don't blame him. Superheroes are very busy people. Many people question how Dr. B has time to both teach and save the world. Don't let his youthful vigour fool you, he is very knowledgeable about this discipline. Also, try not to be distracted by his Clooney-esky looks.

Dr. B is the boss. It was definitely a change of pace, walking into his class for the first time, and seeing him do multiple back flips. A stunning individual, with an unmatched knowledge of the subject, he keeps it real by wearing baggy jeans (he is too thin to find ones that fit) and a backwards baseball cap. Totally hip with the kids!

Bershad is an awesome prof! From the first day you walk in and he reads you the reviews on him from rate my prof, through learning about Van eyck, Leonardo, Michelangelo and other artists, he does so in a way that is intriguing and well structured. If you study for the tests you will do good in this class!

Definition of an easy A class IF you go to lecture, write good notes, and study for tests. Only two exams, completely multiple choice. Bershad is hilarious, extremely knowledgeable, and is full of funny anecdotes about the works he teaches. Loved it.

If God has sent down a saviour then consider Dr. Bershad that saviour because this professor has the enthusiasm and passion for teach Art History. His quizzes are easy providing that you ATTEND CLASS. You must attend his lectures if you wanna ace his quizzes. If he can't get you interested or get your attention for Art History then all is lost.

One of the most amazing prof's I have ever had the privelege to meet. Kind, understanding, and exceptionally fair. All he ever asks is that you attend class and treat him with respect, and he will reward you ten-fold. I wish I could take my entire degree with him, but unfortunately I am not an ART major. Bershad is one of the cutest profs ever. Very helpful and he gave us five extra percent for both midterms. He also cancelled the final and just gave us the 10%. Going to class is definitely a must because the midterms are 95% based on lecture. Textbooks are unnecessary. He is a lovely, lovely individual.

Dr Bershad is an incredibly interesting lecturer, albeit a very fast one. Make sure to take good notes as the tests are based mostly around the lectures.

Extraordinary professor, who not only know his stuff, but is passionate about teaching it. He's funny and makes what can be an interesting, but dry topic into a fun and enjoyable class.

His class is super funny,since he's passionate about the course material. He also has a great sense of humor. The only thing is he speaks very fast and doesn't post notes on online platforms. Therefore his course is not recommended for non-natives with lower level of English language proficiency.

He tries to make things appear in different ways that stimulates ur own interpretation of Art History. Also, knowledgable in many things in ARHI and tries to get people to like coming to classes and "de-stress" with funny conversations before tests. One word to conclude his classes: AWESOME.

You have to go to lectures, and take quick notes and pay attention, but totally worth it. Bershad is chalk full of knowledge and could recound art history in his sleep with his arms tied behind his back. A real master. Plus he's a clooney clone. Win win.

Dr. Bershad is great, he makes it a priority to never let students feel unwelcome when asking him questions and he's very passionate about the subject. Also, very witty. Dr. Bershad is a god. Very good class and a GPA booster as well. I was 0.7% away from the next letter grade and he bumped me up without question. Definitely would take any class with him.

Dr. Bershad is a really good prof. The only thing I disliked about his lectures is that he spoke very quickly, so you have to be on top of it. Read textbook material for the first midterm, but not the second. Gives out some answers to questions beforehand. Just come to class, pay attention, and you'll do fine. Interesting material too!

I loved this class, really interesting lectures. Dr. Bershad was funny and kind. He didn't talk that fast, and English is not my first language either. No need to read the textbook, but need to write good lecture notes. Lectures always ended early. Only two MC tests and free 10% for the waived final.

A prof to die for. In looks, in lecture, in brilliance, in humour. Bershad is one of the most helpful profs I've ever known, he really thinks about his students. Going to his lecture is like going to an awesome rock concert with lead singer as a handsome George Clooney lookalike who sings in art history tunes that will make you want more. ;)

Dr. Bershad was an amazing professor! He did talk fast but if you compared your notes with others in the class when studying you are sure to get all of the material down. If you have good notes, the tests are very easy and he also waives the final and just gives you the 10%. Was very understanding and tried to help students as much as he could.

Bershad was my favourite professor during my degree! In this seminar class there was an 80 percent essay, however he took the time to meet with each student and made it seem less daunting. His lectures were alway attended, even though your grade hinged on the essay, because he is such a fantastic teacher. He will be a prof you'll remember forever!

I had the pleasure of taking two courses from Dr. Bershad. The first was in a giant auditorium. The second, a class of thirty, four years later. Dr. Bershad remembered my name from four years previous, and out of hundreds of students. He is easily the most knowledgeable, interesting, and enthralling professor at the University of Calgary.
