This math is a new concept, and for some it is hard, but Dave is amazing!

Awesome teacher! makes it easy

great teacher. knows his stuff and wants to make sure that you do too! always willing to give extra help if you need it. definitely makes math interesting and, dare i say, fun to learn. HILARIOUS guy! if you have to take a math class, take one from him!!!

Very helpful, I hate math but he makes presents it in a easy manner and with some humor to suck up all of the dryness of math. If I had to I would definetly take a course with him again.

Dave is a good enthusiastic teacher. The course material isn't all that interesting but Dave does a decent job of breaking the monotony. 223 is still a hard course and dave gives out part marks on tests begrudgingly.

Dave is an awesome teacher, I hate math, but he makes it fun. If a student has trouble understanding, he makes sure to clarify steps so that they can fully understand. A great teacher, I would definately take math frim him again!

FANTASTIC teacher. Do the homework, attend classes, and you'll up your GPA! I've never had a teacher so dedicated to his students. Holds review classes before final and gives great review for tests. Midterms really test your knowledge, but the final is a breeze. Wish I had taken a math degree.

This is one of the most committed and passionate instructors you'll find at Mal-U. Dave really cares whether you "get it" or not. He'll do just about anything to help. If you're weak in math but must take a few credits, take them from Dave!

Dave is so helpful and such an amazing teacher! I used to hate math and used to do terrible in it but i ended up with an -A in Daves class! I should mention that this class was also at 8:30 in the morning and i was never bored or even tired! He's great :)

I haven't had Dave in 4 years but he was great when I had him. In my final year at Malaspina I realize how great a prof he is compared to so many others - he cares about his students and wishes them to do well. He captivates audiences and makes math (a subject that I suck at) fun.

Dave is a fantastic teacher. One of the best at Malaspina. He is funny and makes you want to attend class. He is very approachable and willing to help you outside of class. I wish Dave could teach all my courses at Malaspina.

Dave Bigelow is SUCH a good teacher!!! He was so helpful, any questions anyone had he would go over every single one to make sure everyone was clear on the homework...or in lecture! Who woulda thought I would enjoy my Math class more than all my others. I have only had a few teachers/profs as good as Dave. If only I had him in high school everything would have made sense. He is probably brillian, but what does that many profs don't is bring things down to a level that students can learn and understand.Entertaining and fun!

whatever they are paying Dave they should double it. He is the best teacher at Malaspina (Ive been here 3 years). Dont get the wrong idea, it wasnt an easy class, but he does his best to get everybody through it and have fun doing it.

Coolest Prof ever! I wish he taught all my classes. He's always there to help or answer questions and never makes you feel stupid. His class made my day and is a blast even if math isn't your thing. Even first thing in the morning he's the definition of enthusiastic.

I had Dave for Diff in 1994, I am now an Engineer and needed his help to locate a Chem Prof. while in a remote job site. As usual, he dropped what he was doing to help me. Dave is STILL the man. I had Dave for many math classes when VIU was Malaspina. Because of him, I am now a high school mathematics teacher which was not my intention before taking his classes. He is very inspiring.

Animated, energetic prof who really gets you interested in the subject matter. Classes are well-explained, but homework assignments and tests sometimes unrealistically hard. He's one of those profs who is okay with the class average being a C or D, but he's an easy-going guy if you talk to him in person and his lectures are always fascinating.

What an energetic, enthusiastic prof!! Honestly, even if you hate math, you will LOVE going to this class. This guy is hilarious, and always keeps the class interested. He writes very good notes, and explains things very clearly. He makes you work very hard for your grades, however if you do the HW and ask questions you will do well in the course.

Dave was a hilarious guy - you couldn't help but love his lectures. However, his tests were quite difficult and the final exam left me feeling confused as to why I was unprepared. In any of his courses, the math help center and text will become your best friend.

Dave is a great guy and teaches the material in a unique way.But he is no longer the easy professor.

Dave will make you LOVE math. Even at 830, his lectures will capture your attention and send you off to have a great day. He does not spoon feed his students whatsoever. Sometimes there is no way to expect what will be on a midterm...which can be frustrating. An A+ student can easily fail one of his tests.

Awesome Proffessor! Dave made everything so clear and easy to understand. Dave's class offered a challenge for since I was still in grade 12 when I took it, but his enthusiasm and ability to teach made every class insightful and exciting.

DAVE IS HILARIOUS. You would never expect he is the chair of the math dept... He is always so available to talk to students and offers abundant help. He truly is meant to be a teacher. Absolutely loved his class, looking forward to taking classes with him in the future.

I have never seen anyone so excited to teach anything ever! He LOVES math and teaching it, and he wants you to love it to! I always had troubles with math, and therefore didn't like it, but he helped me change that! You definitely need to attend class and do the homework, but that's the same for every math class. I highly recommend his classes!

Awesome teacher. He is so passionate about math. I hated math until now. I took the same course at TRU and dropped it because the teacher was so bad. I was nervous I would have the same experience. Not at all! I actually have fun doing the homework! If I don't understand something, doing the homework helps clarify!! changed math for me!!!!

Very difficult and hard marker, especially for a 1st year class. Covers A LOT of material and is happy that class had a 75% average.... Engaging, but covers material very quickly. Homework every class. Not useful info for going into teaching at all and it condescending to other disciplines than his own but tries to brush it off as a joke.

One of the greatest profs I ever had. Actually looked forward to my 8am with Dave even if it was at the top of the mountain. He was super funny and so passionate about what he teaches. Do your homework and some practice problems for an easy A.

Best teacher I have ever had. He is always energetic and passionate about what he is teaching. He is willing to help you after class and before exams. All in all best class I've taken and would definitely recommend it.

David is an awesome prof. He's clearly passionate about his work and he's open to questions. All of his lectures were unique and awesome. He has a good sense of humor as well. However, I found his lectures to be REAAALLLLY LOOONG and sometimes he would go over the expected time. Other than that he's a good guy.

My first and second math classes were taken with Dave and really helped build a good base in math. Great lectures and really tries to engage the class even though it was 8 in the morning. Fair marker, but makes sure that you know the material for tests and not just regurgitating information. Best prof i've ever had.

First of all, Dave is an absolute riot. Without trying, he is hilarious and makes lectures engaging and interesting. He is clearly passionate about what he teaches, and it makes a real difference in lecture. This was a tough course, and I appreciated his help and advice throughout, he really seems to care about his students.

Dave was an awesome teacher! Cares about all of his students so much and wants everyone to do that best they can, he's always willing to stay after class to give extra help or is easily accessible for extra help out of the classroom. He teaches a little fast sometimes but is really good about giving review sheets to help you! Great teacher.

Honestly hes one of the most laid back and caring professor Ive had. He takes extra time to help you out and make sure you pass. I can say hands down he is the most helpful teacher and actually understood me InOrder to help me out and pass his class.

The best way to describe David's classes are 'fair.' They aren't easy by any means, but if you study hard and do the readings/assignments that you should be doing, you'll get a good grade. If you don't do the tasks he recommends, it'll be a tough course to do well in though. Uses the Cengage Learning text/webassign.

One of the best professors I've had at VIU. If you do the optional homework he assigns, show up to class, and put even modest levels of effort into studying for the tests and into the assignments, you'll do well in the class. The tests cover the material from the homework and from lectures; he doesn't try to trick you on tests.

Does a good job of simplifying the material. His tests are fair. I would recommend going to all the lectures, as its much easier than teaching yourself the lectures from the text. You can get away with missing a few though.

I have never really liked maths and have been running away from math lectures always!! But after taking prof Dave's classes maths became fun. He does give a lot of Homework and teaches things in an interesting way, if you do as much as showing up in the lectures and listening attentively, even without doing the homework you can easily score good.

Love dave! He is very funny. Its easy to get a good grade in his course, but you have to put in the work - go to the math learning centre, do all the homework, show up to every class, and you will get an A. Its not hard. Dave is traditional in his teaching, but he doesn't act pretentious or smug. He is helpful, supportive of learning, and consistent. My only issues with his classes were that his tests were always more difficult than the other professors', and he often wouldn't give enough material to prepare for tests. The textbook is absolutely necessary.

I love Dave, he was one of my fav professors. Very silly goose. He had a project, which I liked, as most math courses are purely based on tests.

Every morning he was a ray of sunshine. He knows the material he is teaching and is very passionate about the subject. The tests were hard and many people didn't have time to finish; however, the content was very fair. Doing the questions in the textbook is a must. He's very funny, one of the few outstanding professors at this university.

I really enjoyed my class with David. He teaches with enthusiasm, and his lectures are interesting and informative. He also included assignments unlike most math classes I've attended which are only tests.
