I found he was a hard teacher that gives extra credit points to the students that he likes. His test are hard in my opinion and he doesn't tell you what to study.
I find that Dr Benninger is good professor and knows alot about what he's talking about. If you attend lecture and read the book you'll do well on the tests. His tests are somewhat hard, they definately make you think but he gives extra credit. There is also an optional final that he uses to replace a missed test or one bad exam grade. He's very helpful if you have questions and also has a really good sense of humor, which helps alot with the boring material being covered.
Great Teacher!!!True that his exams are a bit hard but he gives many chances for extra credit. He also crves his exams and always keep you up to date was the material covered in class through his website. Also, attendance is not mandatory which can be very helpful at times.
material is hard, but if you have someone like Dr. binninger to teach it, he makes it easy for you. he is very knowledgeble and honest. some people in his class get an A by just reading his notes while some get an A by well studing the book. it really depends on the student to come to class and get help understanding the material.
Fantastic teacher and VERY helpful during office hours. If you attend lecture and work hard you can definetly get an A! I would highly recommend him for genetics and biotech 1. Great professor!
Bad Bad. Do not take !!!
Class is tough, but interesting. Exams are challenging not a class you can cram for or get behind in. He is available for help but discouraging to students who need extra help
EXTREMELY HARD TEST, The way he writes his exams is unbelievable. The material is already hard as it is and he makes it harder with his exams. Nice guy but very hard class (and I studied till my head was numb and I could never get a B). I'm only writting this cause he got good reviews, which made me take him; and honestly I made a mistake. If ywant
genetics- very hard material and his exams are insane! you have to understand and be able to apply concepts to get any questions correct. not just memorization!! nice guy but hard teacher.
HARD, u gotta study ur butt off!...but in the end he is a great teacher... and he curves the exams and well...hard subject.... just do it...if u are prepared to work hard, study and go to his office for help.
The tests are not a measure of ones intelligence. LOL, nope not at all. You have to also understand what it is HE the prof is asking you in conjunction of how much you can memorize. The questions on the exam require you to pull out all knowledge of the subject matter and a little common sense. It was the hardest A I have ever got. besides ORGO
Okay this is the deal...Study till your head falls off is the correct term. Read the chapters, studied more than 30HRS for the exam and still received a C on the exam. He is a nice guy but just be aware that he is not easy. I really don't know what to do to get an A in this class and mind you I received an A in Orgo II. Exam quest are tricky.
Extremely hard class, and it has nothing to do with studying. There was too much material covered and he tends to leave you in the dark about what he wants you to focus on. Either he doesn't even write his own tests, or he's been mispelling Eukaryotic as "Eucaryotic," for the last 3 tests. Don't ruin your GPA. You'll regret taking this class.
I didn't find this class difficult. Just make sure you give each chapter a thorough reading. Also, show up to class for the extra credit i-clicker questions (and for the reinforcement of material...novel idea, eh?). I have nothing bad to say about Dr. Binninger. He and the class are pretty cool.
Very boring class. In auditorium, so it's very easy to lose focus. If u can, take it w/Ramsammy! He's great!!
His questions are weird, but he curves the tests. It is truly a measure of study skills and memory. If you are good at memorizing tons of crap, you will do fine. Expect to put in no less than 15 hours per test. No less than 20 for a B+. Also, do the iClicker thing. I didn't and it cost me an A by two points.
OK here is the deal. If you attend class you will most likely get bored because people ask a lot of questions and he tries really hard to make sure everyone is on the same page. However he gives iCliker questions which really boost your grade. The notes are right from the book. Tests are not so bad you just have to read carefully.
Great professor. Organized notes, explains thoroughly, but his tests are made by the devil and sent from hell, only to confuse the most diligent of students. I read the textbook, did extra credit quizzes, attended class, reviewed for 12 hours and it still was not enough...
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! he is one of the hardest and most boring professors ever...outside the classroom he seems nice but his class is HELL...i studied so hard, went to class, read the book, etc and am still struggling...don't take this class unless you understand & are really into genetics
This was one the hardest biobased class I have ever taken. This couse is not to be underestimated and a lot of time must go into this course to pass. If you have to take this couse study with people, read the book, read his notes, and do the online quizzes and the icliker.
Not that hard. His tests can be tricky, but his notes are impeccable. You do not need the book. Just know the notes, and you should be fine. This class was somewhat easy for me, but I had taken Biochemistry the semester before so there was some overlap. The most annoying thing was the ridiculous and constant questions the students asked.
His clas is hard, but fair. I recommend reading the book, going to class everyday (esp for extra credit) and going to see him during office hours. I took genetics before micro & it was hard, but I learned so much. For a bio major his class is a must.
I thought he was a great professor. He really knows his stuff and can explain it very well. You do have to read his tests carefully though. Most of it comes from his notes which are great, so as long as you study those and keep up with the reading you'll do fine.
All he does is present power point slides during class that are online. There is way too much information for one test and there is no review or anything. I failed and I am a good student.
His class is ridiculously hard. He's the type of teacher who puts none of the above as a choice for nearly every question on the test. I feel like he's more concerned with tricking the students than teaching the material. Go to class for iclicker and take online quizzes, they HELP alot! Expect to study alot if you want an A, some ppl got a's.
there are old exams for this class, they are about 60%-70% the same, however do not rely on these alone if you want an A. He does make minor adjustments on the actual test, so you really do have to know your stuff. Class can be awfully boring at times, but he is VERY helpful and nice during office hours. Check your tests during his office hours
ok, if you can take this class elsewhere or with a different professor definately do it. I studied my butt off and still got a C. The tests are aimed at tricking you more than testing you, it's ridiculous. He is very nice but very hard. The only reason people actually passed was because the old exams are floating around.
Hate to say anything bad about this guy but this class is extremely hard. Studied but off to get a C not for the average person. Don't even know what to recommend to get a good grade. Just not my subject I guess.
This is a very hard class.Professor is really nice but he can't teach (reads off powerpoints that are online)and his lectures are online.Study a little everyday and go to class(he gives e.c. iclickers)and pay attention--never know whats going to be on the test. The book is minimal help, mostly his test Qs come from lecture so listen hard and careful
Nice guy. Hard teacher. Tough subject to comprehend a lot of information. Wish his tests would not make you second guess yourself.
Study your ass off and when it falls off study some more. Understand the subject, don't memorize it. Reading the books provides a good understanding of the material. With the grace of god,Shadrach, Meshach, and the Billy Goat, I somehow managed a B.
class was the most boring thing i have ever endured. hardly ever went. instead of wasting two hours in class each day, just stay home and read the book instead. i got an A. and make sure you don't have to take the final. Do all his study questions and sample exam questions!! those always show up. and get all extra credit you can get. good luck
Everyone that has a drivers liscense is not capable of driving. Everyone that has a Dr. degree is not capable to teach. This is the case: too vague, genetics is a lot of material and should be clear, forget it if you think you are going to learn with Dr. Binninger, you will hear this a lot though " that is out of my area" lol :) clicker, quiz 2%.
Teacher is approachable and will gladly help with any questions you have, but the tests are sorta confusing. I studied the material but he likes to put trick questions. DON'T buy the book since he has his own notes that he gets from the book onto blackboard that you print out for the lecture. Good luck! Oh and he gives a little extra credit.
Professor is awesome. If you go to ask him a question make sure you have time on your hands...he talks A LOT and is very good at explaining things one on one. Never opened the book. Memorize notes and show up to class every day for iclickers. Tests are tricky (all of the above/none of the above) but with EC the class is a joke. Got an A no problem
Dr. Binninger is one of the most helpful professors you will ever meet. Completely approachable with any questions, about class or about grad school, research, etc. Best man I've met at FAU.
Great teacher, interesting but difficult material. You tend to lose interest because there is a lot of lecturing and reading of slide. It's really hard to get an A because just reading the book and memorizing the notes are not enough. You have to understand the material and be able to apply concepts to theoretical situations.
I do not know what these people are talking about. Its not about conceptualizing its about memorizing. Hes the worst teacher ever.
This has been by far the TRICKIEST class i have ever taken. STUDY STUDY STUDY. KNOW EVERYTHING. if you think your done studying keep studying. memorize and understand everything. hes not a bad teacher its just alot of material. i worked my ass off and just barely pulled off with a C+.
Honestly, it's Genetics which means you REALLY NEED TO STUDY like a Hardcore! He is good at explaining in Lecture but his test is too hard that will make you go "What?" The only way you can an A is either what I said at the beginning or you cheated. It's up to you, but if you're superuber critical thinker take him.
Great Professor. Actually wants students to do well. I recommend him for Biotech and day. He is extremely understanding and any questions feel free to ask him, he has no problem whats so ever on explaining until you understand. TAKE THE CLASS YOU WILL LEARN
Lectures aren't always entirely clear, however, if you go over the powerpoint slides in your own time and read the book, you can pass his exams. He doesn't ask anything that wasn't covered in the slides. Very important to read questions carefully.
Nice guy, he is very helpful during office hours. His questions are designed to trick you so read carefully. Also do not focus on what you would expect to be the most important topics he tests on very minor details. Also do the iclicker and ec quizzes it will give you around 4% added to your final grade.
His class is kinda boring and he gets a little off on tangents sometimes. The exams are VERY tricky. You must know every detail about the material to do well. He does give practice questions that are usually on the exams though to help you do well. iClickers for extra credit. Office hours really help although he can get off topic sometimes.
Tests are difficult, but if you read the book and study the notes you can get an A. Gives opportunities for extra credit. He makes the lectures interesting. Great professor! I recommend.
Pros: Gives extra credit (online quizzes and iClicker), is very interested in the subject and loves to help you out if you ask, generally makes thing simple to understand. Cons: Lectures can be rather long and boring, his test (while not difficult) are those all of the above, none of the above type. Just read the book and review his notes.
He does curve every test, but only because they are very hard, there is no way you can take this class and other hard science classes, otherwise you are screwing yourself, eye for detail is essential in this class because he will put questions on the test that were in a small diagram or chart in the book. Also have an eyeclicker as well
I didn't find this class to be hard. As time passed, I figured that the best way to do well on his test was to read the chapters but only the sections that he covered on his Powerpoints. I made note cards and studied those. I got a 97 on the final. The extra credit on his tests helped a lot. No EC outside that. I would take him again.
Took Genetics with him in the Fall and was an awesome class. The material is a bit tricky but can be reinforced with reading from the book. He video records his lectures. The tests were tricky but not impossible, well sometimes. Excellent professor overall. I studied for exam by reading each chapter then watch the lecture video.
Got over 100 in the class because of the iclicker extra credit. Those really help at the end of the semester so make sure to go to class every time. The tests are very tricky so you have to know the information well. The best way to study is read the lecture slides and only read the book for concepts you don't understand.
For PCB3063, you have to put in work ahead of time (read: lecture) and keep up with where he is at in class. He is a pretty fair professor and one that helped me find out my faults in my own studying. He curves generously for each test and he makes sure to tell you thru his PPTs what will likely be on the exams. I-Clicker def helps in the end!
Dr. Binninger is a nice guy. Drops 1 exam. Here are 3 tips to pass his class with B or better. 1. Read the textbook only the sections he covers in his ppts. 2. iClicker is a must which gives 7-10 extra points to your final grade (attend class!!). 3. Review your exam questions when he allows it which can be on the final exam.
You can tell he cares about your future, especially if you're going the Ph.D route. The TopHat points add 5-10 PERCENT points onto your final grade. Lowest grade out of the 5 tests dropped. Tests are tough and are based on critical thinking, not definition memorization. Textbook rarely used, slides are sufficient. Study well and you'll be fine.
Dr. Binninger is a nice guy with a good sense of humor. Class is difficult, as expected, but not as hard as i thought it would be. 4 exams with optional final to replace lowest test. Up to 8 points of extra credit for coming to class and answering top hat questions. Study his powerpoints and memorize everything. Never touched the textbook
Provides extra credit that helps a lot! Tests are worded very hard with lots of "none of the above" or "only a and b are correct". Final is optional, it helps to drop your lowest test score.
Dr. Binninger is one of the best professors I have taken at FAU. He teaches genetics thoroughly and understandably. You do need to study (obviously) and use the textbook as supplemental, but the exams are straight-forward and only include information that he has discussed in class. Going to class gets you extra credit to your grade!
One of the best classes I've taken at FAU. Dr. Binninger is phenomenal! Presents the material very well, MUST pay close attention to every lecture! Use the textbook to help and enforce your learning of the material on the powerpoint slides. Once you understand ALL the material on his slides you will be fine for exams. Extra credit grade booster
Dr. Binninger is a phenomenal professor! Genetics was a challenging subject but he presents the material very clear! For test he provides you with practice questions, some of which make their way to the exam! On top of that there is a 10 percentage points of extra credit! My only complaint is the wording of his exam; they are difficult! Good luck!
Amazing professor with a extreme level of understanding in the field of Genetics. Most organized professor at FAU to date. Provides all the necessary materials and some extra to pass this course. Will love to take any class with him again tbh.
AMAZING PROFESSOR. Would def rec him for genetics. His exams are tricky and you must know the info in detail to answer some questions. TopHat extra credit will SAVE YOU, but you have to be in attendance in order to get most of the questions correct. All in all, amazing experience and would take him again.
I took Biotechnology Lab 1/2 over the summer and although the exams were hard I learned so many laboratory techniques. He knows these labs are very difficult therefore he curves A LOT, he wants you to learn so he is not focused on failing you because theres only like 12 people in there mostly Grad students. Very approachable answers all questions.
He is a really nice professor but the class requires A LOT of study time. Do not take more than three class with this class (Genetics) because you might not do well that is what happen to me took to many classes and had to drop this one. Power points are like 80-90 pages you have to STUDY a lot and see if tutor if possible. His a little mono tone
Roughly 10% ec, 4 tests and an optional final. Curves slightly, but not much. Tests can be tricky as he likes to use questions with "one or more" as a possible answer. Records lectures and posts them. Really enjoy his lecturing. He's a really nice guy, and doesn't want you to fail.
There are four exams, in addition to an optional final to replace your lowest out of 4 exams. His lectures are boring. Just read the textbook and go over his PowerPoints everyday. Dont fall behind, and youll be fine!
Dr. Binny is awesome. His grading criteria is straightforward and never expects you to know things not on the lecture slides. He has a sense of humor and is entertaining. Not too difficult, many passed with over 100's. 10/10 for manly mustache.
I retook Genetics with him and passed easily. Very funny and entertaining, makes boring subjects funny. Gives a good amount of extra credit from Tophat. Attendance isn't mandatory, just use Tophat from home. Exams are weren't too difficult, pay attention and take notes and it'll be an easy A. Highly recommend this professor.
The best Genetics professor at FAU!
amazing professor!
Okay, the teacher is fine. Genetics is just a hard class and very conceptual. i withdrew from this class because i was not understanding material. show up everyday because tophat questions is only other points beside test grades. powerpoints he gives is not enough to grasp concept. look for outside sources as well and study with other people.
Ok professor, really hard class. Says he gives reviews as to what is on the test but the reviews aren't anything like the test. Trick questions and 100% conceptual. If you are looking to just memorize definitions this is the wrong class.
The tests are tricky. But you just have to listen to his podcast he posts. An A or a B is attainable.
It's not easy. You need to study the PPTs, AND go over the tophat that he does in class. Attend class and do the tophat because it will give you an entire letter grade of a boost if you get the questions right! Start studying one-two weeks before the exam; his tests are tricky!
Funny guy, keeps lectures semi-interesting. However, you will NOT pass just based on lectures+EC. You MUST read the textbook for more specifics (his PPTs are just the textbook reworded). You also MUST use outside resources: SI sessions, Tutoring, study groups, etc. I took him thinking that it would be a breeze like the other reviews said... NOPE!
Gives a letter grade of extra credit. Do I need to say more? It amazes me that people don't take this professor for genetics. Very fair, exams are tough but this is a tough class so that's expected. Study, go to tutoring, do tophat extra credit in class, and you'll be fine.
Genetics was a tough class but he made it easier. Very informative lectures that had everything that would be on the exam but there was a lot of content. You need to start studying at least a week in advance to feel confident. If you attend class, theres an opportunity to gain extra credit which really helps your grade. The final is optional.
this is a very hard class based on the amount of info you need to know & how conceptual his questions are on the exams. there's tophat for ec that should help bump you up a letter grade(A- to A) based on how high is your score. study a little each day and do the study ?s to help. i loathe this professor based on how he tried to discourage students.
Genetics is an extremely hard class and you need to put the work in for it. He offers a lot of extra credit questions to boost your grade but the downside is paying for the program for this. The best thing about this class I have to say is the final. the final was optional and replaced your lowest test grade if you wanted to take it.
He can be difficult to keep up with and confusing at times, but genetics is a tough course so you need to put in a LOT of work. He gives extra credit during class and records all his lectures. His practice questions are very similar to the test, but worded differently. Exams are mostly conceptual, so you wont get by with just memorization.
Genetics is a hard topic, so you have to put in the work to do well - understand the concepts very well. He offers a lot of extra credit on exams and TopHat but you have to pay for it, which was like $24 for the semester. Each exam, he offers sample questions that are similar to the exam questions, just worded different.
This class is difficult, but Binninger made class interesting. Exams are difficult, but not impossible; they require a solid understanding of the concepts, not just memorization. Extra credit can boost you up half to a whole letter grade. Lowered the grading scale a decent amount at the end of the semester
Test heavy class but a lot of extra credit through I clickers and extra credit test questions. Tests are very concept based but his practice questions help. Overall nice guy, with great shirts.
I've taken Binninger for Genetics and Biotech Lab the material is tough these are not easy classes but Dr. Binninger will work with you and help you understand the material. Prioritize understanding not memorization and ask questions. He's a jokester and very sarcastic but he does want you to succeed.
Funny and approachable guy, but lecture is pretty boring. Ur graded only on tests and iClicker EC. Study EVERYTHING in the PowerPoints if u wanna get a C+ to B, but read the book if u wanna get an A. This class is difficult so study hard, DO THE MOCK EXAM Qs HE POSTS! GO TO CLASS SO U CAN GET THE EXTRA CREDIT! U really gotta put in the work to pass
As someone who usually does well in classes and passes them, this class is hard. The exams are challenging, there are no assignments given to help maintain the grade, and even getting the maximum amount of extra credit does not help at all. This professor needs to help his students and not let more than half of his class fail!!!!
Really good professor who is funny at times. He records his lectures so you can study them for the exams. He offers extra credit every class and you're only graded by 5 tests and he drops the lowest test grade. Genetics is not an easy course but if you study the powerpoints and make your own notes, you'll pass. The book is optional for extra help.
A decent professor but did not clear up some of the confusing concepts in genetics; made it even harder.
