Dr. Bordelon's class was one of the hardest classes that I have had a OCC,however, I learned a great deal and improved my writing skills. If you are an English major, this is the class for you! You will learn and isn't that why you are enrolled in school

He's a nice guy and all, but he gives WAY too much of a workload for a full-time student and part-time worker. 6 hours of homework for his class ALONE about every night? No thanks.

To this day, Dr. Bordelon is THE best teacher I've ever had. He's a toughie, but his objective is to prepare his students for four year schools, and he does. Two years later, I continue to use that manual he created for us.

The most excellent English teacher I ever had. You learn how to write!! Isn't that why we are in college? If you follow his instruction you'll do well. If you forget your in college and treat this class like high school English you will fail. A serious teacher for serious students!

Dr. Bordelon is a difficult grader and issues a good amount of homework, but you will leave his class having learned a great deal about literature and the English language provided you apply yourself.

I hate english, and I had no interest in taking this class at all (it was a requirement). But this teacher is really a nice guy. Sure he is hard, and he grades a little bit tough, but I also learned a ton, and he makes himself available always. You have to work, its not an easy A, but rewarding.

Dr. Bordelon does not grade fairly. If you do not agree with him on a paper, he will takes away a lot of points for minimal errors. He gives a lot of work and he is not very helpful. STAY AWAY!!

Awesome teacher. Lots of work and difficult at times but I learned more from him than I have from any other Lit professor. My writing and reading skills as improved drastically since having him. He sat down and went over papers with me, gave me lots of help. Would recommend to anyone who's not afraid to actually do some work.

He was a very hard teacher but i think it was the first time i learned something in a class. There were very good in class discussions and would help anyone if they needed it

LOTS of work!! But the homework is helpful, if you do it, for the essays. One thing that's really annoying is his attendance policy. We pay to learn! If you are a minute late, too bad! You don't get in! And you can only be late twice! Go figure!

Probably the best teacher I ever had. Its a tough class - lots of reading and writing but it is a college literature class so what else should you expect? I took this professor for English I and when I saw that he was teaching American Lit I signed up immediately. His classes are interesting and you are guaranteed to learn a lot.

The class was not too hard, but it does require a lot of reading and participation. He is a great teacher though, and i have learned so much from him. I am confident that my writing has improved dramatically because of his class. I would recommend him to other students, because he is a great teacher.

I had to drop this class because Dr. Bordelon had us get most of our class readings off of the internet, and my computer doesn't work and I can't afford to print 24 page essays out at the college library. At the beginning of the semester, I thought I would enjoy the class, but by the time I dropped it, I absolutely hated it.

He assigns a ton of work, but is very fair about it. I didn't realize English 1 was an essay class. Even though you're writing a lot of essays, you take about a month on each because you do it step by step. Really made me feel good about my writing though. Do not take this class if you're looking for an easy ride.

Had him for english honors, was a great teacher. He really cares about his students' grades, and will talk to you individually about each assignment. He gives a lot of work, but provided you see him about your papers, go to class and listen to what he says, you'll do great and learn something.

I had Dr. Bordelon last semester. At first, I was overwhelmed by all of the work. The first day of class he made us write a paper. However, as time progressed i felt i had improved as a writer. While he was very helpful and organized, he did call on people a lot to hear what they had to say.

He is always excited to teach. Answering questions in class and being prepared is always a plus. He puts in much effort to help his students and wants the same in return. He loves to proofread in class, which helps you understand how to make your essays better. He will help you with anything you need.

I thought he was a very interesting teacher. I took this class online and the material we used to write our papers was always on an interesting and relevant topic. I think he is an outstanding professor!

I had him for an online class. he definately keeps you busy but he is VERY helpful. I am not an english major but as long as you do the work you will get a good grade. i never actually met him but in our chat rooms he seemed like a really nice and helpful professor!

He is a very helpful to his students. Although some find him hard and think he demands a lot from you, he is a very good teacher. He teaches you a lot and really helped me to be a better writer. There was a lot of work but it was all worth it in the end.

He is a fantastic teacher. The only people who don't think so are the ones who don't do the work. Every assignment was broken down into easy weekly steps and as long as you did the ready they were relatively easy to complete. I can't stress it enough, that if I could hand pick my next english professor I would pick him.

Assigns a LOT of work, the only teacher I had who had homework assigned for EVERY SINGLE DAY. What do you expect though? It's college, and he treats you as an adult in college, not a high school lazy a**. Agree with him or you'll fail your essay

Prof. Bordelon is one of the best teachers I've had. I had him for Eng. I Honors and I thought he was tough, but I imagine he has very high expectations of all students. His class was difficult; you have to go, pay attention, participate, read, write, and maybe do a one-on-one essay review, but you'll be a better writer and a wiser person for it.

His class definitely is not the easiest, but you do feel like you learn something in it. Just be prepared to have homework (mostly multiple readings) for every class. Oh and he likes his students to participate.

Dr. Bordelon is by far the best professor i have ever had. I learned SO MUCH, about writing, history of literature, of words, of meanings.. he's just nonstop knowledge. Do what is required of you and you will absolutely pass. It's called college for a reason!

Great professor.. Lots of complaining on this site about the amount of work he assigns... this is college, not grade school. Awesome teacher, very smart. If you aren't willing to do the work, maybe you should try vocational school or something.. After all it is your money - or mommy and daddys.

This was THE hardest class in OCC. VERY smart man, teaching in the WRONG school (its a freaking community college). The way he teaches and gives out reading and assignments = having NO life, no full time job, no full time college. I do not recommend him unless you want to learn but sacrifice your life for 3 credits that are better taken elsewhere.

i have never done so much homework in my entire life! he is very professional and extremely adept at what he does, but the amount of homework is really affecting my other classes. :( i can't even keep up with them because of his!

I had Dr.Bordelon as a professor for two classes (one online and one on campus). He is very intelligent and witty and often helped me see things that I would never have observed otherwise. For an English major like me, these classes were much appreciated. Take his classes, it will change your perspective!!!

He's a really good teacher and he's really funny. Except there's a lot of reading, writing, and group work (which I hatee). It's really hard to get a good grade on your writing. C's are the average... It makes me feel like a bad writer (when I'm not). Only take this class if you are a hardcore English Major.

Extremely nice and funny man. If you do the required work you will do well. As far as English classes, this was one of the easiest and I've taken many. Very fair grader and his instructions are crystal clear. Don't listen to the bad reviews, they are just disgruntled students who didn't do the work and got a bad grade.

Although,it was the teacher who ruined my 4.00 GPA with a B,I will definitely take him for all my English classes,because his teaching you to think critically.Even if hi makes you to agree with his opinion it is a good example of how someone can affect your thoughts-politics do that everyday!This teacher is not for average or lazy students.

I had him for American Lit and wound up getting a B. He was a hard grader when it came to the Essays (C's are about the average), but I felt like I learned something in his class. He's pretty nice and will help you out if needed. Participate and don't slack off and you should do fine. He will not tolerate lateness and excuses, trust me!

whoever said his reading quizzes were impossible maybe needs to, i dont know, actually read the material. believe me, they're all easy questions. Dr. Bordelon is the best english teacher OCC has to offer. i've learned way more from his class than any others. he's tough on essays, therefore don't be incompetent and you won't have a problem.

This professor was amazing. If you want an easy A don't take the class. He makes you work and think, a quality I wish other professors would have. Only write four papers wjhich he breaks down in order to write it correctly. Definitely go to writing center for help after one on one conferences with him. Awesome Professor! Awesome class!

Dr. Bordelon is not the easiest professor and yes, you have to read a lot taking his lit classes but it's an ENGLISH COURSE you better get used to reading!! Took Dr. Bordelon's The Short Story class on-line. It is a lot of work but whatever effort you put out that's the grade you'll get. He gave excellent communication before and during the on-line classes each week. There was alot of reading, but it was varied and the assignments were spot-on as to the stories assigned. He is very available for help.

Took him for Short Story. He's a challenging prof but will teach you more than you imagined. Those with negative comments are most likely unwilling to do the work or used to easy professors who give out answers.

Favorite teacher ever. He actually knows how to teach and is extremely helpful. If you want to learn how to write and read the CORRECT way--take him. Great class discussions and worth every penny, if not more.

He teachers on a pretty high level compared to most other professors at OCC. It takes some getting used to his teaching style as well as getting used to him, but overall its an easy class if you pay attention and do the work, and you learn a lot.

Awesome professor! Not easy but is dedicated and willing to work with you! Highly recommend!!! Uses his own "textbook" though, buying the books for this was a waste, never used them except for the $4 one he wrote as a guide for his class!

Dr. Bordelon is a hard professor, but he teaches you how to write correctly. He is very clear, friendly and helpful. I am going to take him for 151, I know it won't be easy- but knowing how to write well, will last for life.

Professor Bordelonis is a great professor even though I failed it miserable. After enrolling in four year university and looking back at my expirences being one of his studens, he tought me a lot and is overall a great professor. If I worked harder I could have achieved I better grade but I do bot regret taking his class at all.

This professor does provide much written material so his expectations should be no surprise to any student that reads it. The work is challenging and professor's expectations are high-but fair. If you are looking for an easy "A" find another professor. If you are willing to work and learn and be mentally challenged, this is the guy for you.

Here is the thing about Dr. Bordelon. Yes, he is a hard teacher but no doubt in my mind he was the most helpful teacher I have had. He truly transformed the way I write papers and the way I perceive reading material. If you are looking for an easy A turn away, but if you are willing to work you will not be disappointed.

A really nice guy. His classes are enjoyable and most important he really teaches you stuff. The low rating on this site is understandable. Although He helps every student in the class and talks to every student according to their level, he will NOT pass you if you don’t know how to write and will not give you an A if your work is not excellent.

BEST PROFESSOR AT OCC, I LOVE HIM. do not take however if you want an easy A. you work reallyy hard, but you will learn everything you need to write really well and more, don't let the negative comments guide you, anyone who dose not do well in his class is just a lazy student. Dr. Bordelon is a very nice, quirky professor. He really knows his stuff and the class discussions are the best I've ever had. You get what you put into it. I wasn't looking forward to it in the beginning, especially as a science major, but his class in engaging and I got a lot out of it. Given the chance, I would definitely take him again.

Dr. Bordelon is passionate about his work and it helps the class in class. It is what drives you to do your best in his class. I would recommend his class to everyone who needs to take ENGL II. Work hard and attend his class but you get a lot out of it.

A very good professor. Managed to get a B in his class but it wasn't easy. He was quite hard on his students but made sure that his students learn the materials well.

Took both American Lit I and II and was challenged throughout, but in a good way. Those who are looking for a simple class and grade should turn away, but those who want to get something out of the class should definitely check this class. Dr. Bordelon is incredibly thorough, organized, and always willing to assist with papers. A great opportunity!

i took him for 151 and 152. great teacher, favorite of all occ professors. yes, its a lot of work and yes it takes a lot of time, but you learn. and this is a topic that you will use throughout your college experience; it's vital to know how to write an essay. the class is mostly revision, so he'll help you make it fluid and well-written.

Dr. Bordelon is an awesome professor! I have learned more in his class than any other I have taken at OCC. He expects a lot from his students but as long as you do the readings and put the time and effort into your writing you will get a good grade.

As others reviewed, Bordelon is awesome & his expectations are demanding. Take his class when you are able to put the effort needed for good grade. You will learn a lot about whatever subject he is teaching. He is funny & class is engaging. Uses all the books & follows the syllabus exactly. Gives back paper w/grades but does not post them online.

Great professor, but a little bit of a tough grader. Very interesting class and you learn a lot from it. Not an easy A, but he won't ruin Grade Point Averages, I strongly recommend him.

Best professor OCC has; they should do whatever they can to keep him. Clear and concise, no question as to what it expected. If you do not want to do work, do not tie his class. If you want to learn and excel in writing, sign up.

If you really want to learn and improve on your reading and writing skills take him. You will have papers and those are your only grades so try to make them as good as you can. A LOT of participation is needed, but you really will learn more with him than almost any other professor at this college.

Dr. Bordelon's is a good professor. You may not like his lectures, they are kinda boring, but it's a good class to take for English 1 and it's an easy A. There are few assignments and only a few of the due dates are mandatory. Essays are 4-5 pages max. If you're struggling writing an essay, make an appointment with him and he'll help you out.

Best English teacher I've ever had. As an aspiring English teacher, I couldn't have taken a better course. He is very much a tough grader but he has legitimate reasons why he gives the grades he does. He is beyond willing to help you succeed. It's almost impossible not to participate. He's a great teacher. I'd recommend him 110%

One of the best professors I have ever had. He only assigns four papers and he pretty much walks you through each essay. He gives you every thing you need and you just have to put it together. I would totally take him again. If you do the work you will pass.

If youre going for an English or lit-based degree & really want a professional work ethic & adult perspective, if you really care abt & need the criticism, if youre dedicated to writing your best works, he's the best OCC has to offer.

I came into the class a mediocre writer, and walked out substantially improved. He walks you through the process of writing, shows you where you are going wrong, and, best of all, teaches that through practice, anyone can learn to write. Just prepare to work for it. My sole complaint is his ideological bent- I feared expressing the "wrong" views.

David, in my opinion is one of the most amazing professors ever! I wish I could take him for all of my English courses. However, he is one of my most difficult graders. He makes you work hard for that A (which you will rarely see). His feedback is so helpful and my writing has grew tremendously. I highly recommend him! You will not regret it!

Overall he is okay, but nothing you do is ever good enough. He wants perfection instead of your best. He is really organized on how he teaches. I like him but he is very annoying with his perfectionist attitude. You will learn and work very hard but if you don't write like him he just giving out D's and a occasional B and maybe a A once ever 10 yr

Very excitable. He obviously liked what he was teaching us. Sometimes his explanations were very vague, but I managed to figure it out.

DB was a good professor and was passionate about writing and communications. He's very intelligent in a variety of subjects. However, you will be expected to write an essay practically in two lectures and you get four essays. The rest of the lecture time will be proofreading and it was god awful boring. He's very caring and respectful. Recommended

Really cool guy and an awesome class. He makes English very interesting. Gotta think outside the box on occasion, but he's very fun. Its really cool he takes time of his day to arrange meetings with each of his students and tells you how to revise your papers. Do the reading, do your essays when your suppose to. I'd definitely take him again!

Bordelon is a great guy. As a writer, his class was perfect for me. He really went into the structure of essays and the class was more of a workshop. He instructed students to visit him in his office to go over their essay's. I had received a B on a paper and he told me he was disappointed in me. If you work hard you'll get a good grade

This man was the most influential college professor I've ever had. I took him for both American Lit I and II while attending OCC. He has inspired me to be the best possible writer I could be. I am now majoring in English at the University of Delaware because of his motivation. I can honestly say that even the professors here are not on his level!

Professor Bordelon helped me realize that I love writing. His class was tough but it taught me to write at an entirely new level. If you listen to his instructions on how to revise your paper, you will do very well in his class.

Although I got a C in his class he is my favorite professor I have ever had. He has a way of mixing teaching a college level english class with stand up comedy. I have never left his class without a laugh. He is also brilliant. His passion for reading and writing rubs of on everyone in the class. His class is not easy but I highly recommend it.

Very good Professor. You are going to read and write a lot but it really is not that bad. You really learn a lot from his class on how to write an essay. Grading can be tough but gives plenty of opportunities to review, even so much as himself reviewing your essay and saying what it needs. I was scared going in but enjoyed his class.

Honestly, if you're looking for a handout, do not take this class. Dr. B makes you work for your grade. You also won't do well if you don't take the time to go over your essays with him. However, he was one of the most captivating/inspirational professors I have had to date. My quality of writing has drastically improved from one semester with him.

Super funny. The class is learning how to write essays and effectively read and write and take notes. A+ professor and funny. Appreciates participation in class especially if everyone refuses to answer anything, but won't be a jerk about it. Willing to answer specific questions and give focused help on anything. The work load is heavy but worth it.

Great teacher and he tries his best to push his students to do their best. It is hard to fail in his class, but that does not mean it is an easy A. Out of all the college classes I have taken, Professor Bordelon has taught me the most. His Lectures are never really that boring and he understands when people lose attention so he can change subject.

Dr. B helped improve my writing so much, but he has very high standards for his students. He would frequently not give anyone in the class higher than a B on our essays. He also expected students to come during his office hours for 1-on-1 revising. Good course to learn reading/writing, lots of work, tough to get a high grade in this class.

Honestly, I really enjoyed his class. He taught me so much and I was honored to be in his class. I absolutely recommend taking his class if you like literature. He's a genius!

Interesting Professor, wants things done in a very specific way. Cares about students and makes sure that everyone gets involved. Makes you work for your grade. HW is reading a short story and then quiz next class on it. Lots of discussion and you will get called on to talk. Likes to go into themes and ideas. Not for everyone, but I enjoyed him.

Professor Bordelon gave very funny, engaging lectures and knew that not everyone had a passion for English, but stressed the importance of the subject for every major. He gave good feedback and helped you work through problems to get a good grade. There is a lot of reading for this class, though, so the homework could be time-consuming.

He's a good professor to take online. Although a bit slow at grading, he's tough (for an A) but fair. He's the professor you would want to take because you want to improve in your writing and you will honestly need it. Some of the assignments aren't exactly fun but they set you up for doing essays for the rest of your college career.

There aren't too many assignments through the course which is really great. He's also very very nice, so he won't take any credit off late assignments. He is very entertaining and is very good at what he does. I actually learned a lot from him and I hardly showed up to class. Highly recommend.

i'm taking him again for eng 2 next semester, so he's good, but will require participation so you need to actively be engaged in his class. he also had the most homework of any class i had this semester, but i came out of it a better writer, so he is a fantastic prof that does his job well. slow at grading papers, toughish grader? got 85 on mine

Absolutely loved him as a professor. He can be a tough grader, but his feedback is very helpful and WILL help you become a better writer.

LOTS of reading, writing, and analyzing. This was the lowest grade I ever received in an English class, however, he did teach me the proper way to write a long essay, interpret literature, and cite correctly. If you're not good at English, do not take him, but if you are and have the time and skills to read and write for hours, go for it.

Overall I feel like I took a lot away from this class with Dr.Bordelon. I learned many useful revision methods and strategies that made my writing improve tenfold. He grades tough but that is because he gives you so much time to nearly perfect your writing assignments, he expects great work which I think is reasonable. He has some good jokes too.
