I would HIGHLY suggest taking him! This is not an easy class but he really knows what he's teaching. He is always willing to help so go to office hours and his study sessions! He basically tells you exactly what is going to be on the test. He also makes class fun and tells jokes! ALWAYS answer the bonus questions and never leave anything blank! A++
I had no idea how much I would love chemistry until I took this class! Challenging, but engaging. If you don't pass this class, it is your fault for not attending and/or asking questions. He is always on top of emails and very approachable during office hours. Great relatable analogies for those not natural chemists, and even for those who are!
Omg I was going to switch my major until I got his class. He is not only a freaking great professor he also has a outspoken and courageous personality you will enjoy every minute in his class. He is awesome and to top it off he is quiet attractive =)
I high recommend taking Dr. Bowers. He is extremely funny, and somehow manages to get the information across in a clear and fun kind of way. He always makes himself available for extra help outside of class, and it feels like his number 1 goal is to help his students learn, and succeed. I believe Dr. Bowers is willing to do anything to get his goal
I took Gen Chem 1 with Dr. Bowers last semester and am taking Gen Chem 2 with him this semester. I would highly recommend him. He is incredibly knowledgeable in the topic(s) and wants to make sure every student understands. Plus he always adds extra credit to the exams and will give partial credit. Warning: be prepared to learn a lot about PCl5.
Dr. Bowers is a good professor. His lectures tend to be a little boring with slide after slide. He does not do examples that are in the powerpoint on the board. Takes awhile to grade assignments. Means well, but makes his class difficult for no reason. Overall, I would give him a 2/5 for his overall teaching quality.
I had Dr. Bowers for fundamentals of chemistry, and he was awesome. He really cared about all of his students succeeding! He is very approachable and always explains things if someone has a question or doesn't understand. Gives a good amount of extra credit on all tests. He makes learning Chemistry fun!
Best professor at kent state hands down. One of the few I've taken that actually cares about his students doing well. Always willing to meet after class. Never leave problems blank he always gives partial credit and bonus! Very difficult exams but highly recommend taking him!
Corny jokes, keeps class interesting and wanting to attend! Great teacher, goes into detail and loves what he does!
Great professor. Would strongly recommend. It's not an easy course but he is extremely helpful and funny! He is young so it feels like you can really relate to him.
This is my first semester having doctor bowers and he is an amazing teacher! He is very smart, knows what he is talking about, and also knows how to explain the information in an understandable way. I am literally working my next semester schedule around in order to be able to have him for gen chem II.
I took his genchem1 course this semester. He's my favorite professor here. The class is diffucult, but that's not his fault. If you are taking general chemistry I'd suggest having him as a professor.
Dr. Bowers is an amazing chem professor. The material is tough but he does his best to explain it clearly. He finds a way to relate things to us and thats extremely helpful. I would definitely have failed chemistry if it wasnt for him.
I took him for Gen. Chem 1 this semester and loved it! I ended up with an A in the course because he knows the material and how to teach it. He also puts all the slides online and for every quiz and exam he posts a practice one to help study. He is hilarious and would DEF recommend him!! I'm taking him for Gen. Chem 2 this semester (:
Aside from chemistry being a normally tough course for me, I took him for Gen Chem 1 and withdrew to take it with another professor. I didn't do well with Bowers. Bowers is a nice and funny guy and I really liked how he used modern examples. But his lectures are boring and for me, he was hard to learn from. He takes awhile to grade things also.
Dr. Bowers is entertaining while educational. As a young doctorate, he is easy to relate to and constantly tells funny stories to break up the material. Go to his study sessions that he holds before exams. They clue you in on problems he's planning to test you on. Overall, totally recommend. Great professor.
I absolutely Love Dr. Bowers. He has inspired me to change my major to chemistry. He is by far one of the nicest and funniest people I have ever met. His practice quizzes and exams are very close to the actual ones. He will help you however possible in understanding the material. 1010 would take again and my favorite professor I ever had.
Dave is an amazing guy and an amazing professor! Not an easy class, but he holds office hours every day and wants you to succeed. He's really helpful. He is super cute and has a great personality! If you want to get an A or B you'll have to attend every class and really work for it. But it's worth it! He's one of the best professors at Kent State!
In the middle of taking Chem 2 with him and he's by far one of the best teachers I've ever had. I'm not the best with chemistry but I'm passing with an A right now, would take his class again anytime. Also he's hilarious and is not bad to look it
Dave is an amazing prof. He is easily the best professor I have had in any Science class. DONT BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS! If you don't understand something, he will explain the material in a few different ways! He is SUPER nice and holds office hours regularly. Go to them! Use quizzes to help prepare you for his exams! Go to class to get an AB.
Funny guy, bad teacher. Took forever to grade exams & was extremely rude & unhelpful when I kept going to him with grade calculations help. Ended up withdrawing from his class because my gradeGPA was suffering & I'm not bad @ science. Retook the course with Sujee and currently getting a B+. The chemistry textbook is awful though. Just buy the code
I had him for general chemistry 1 and 2 and i wish he was teaching organic. He was really funny and made class enjoyable. He loves his job and chemistry very passionate for what he does. He gives partial credit but there are only 3 tests so you have to be a good test taker. no extra credit. open to questions. easy to understand don't need book
Dr. Bowers was awesome! One of my favorite professors at Kent so far. He took time on quiz weeks and test weeks to stay after class for however long after and do review sessions. You can tell he really cares about his students. He is funny, young, and can relate to his students. Overall he was great.
This is a class definitely worth taking especially with a professor like this. His lectures are extremely interesting. Not only that, what he teaches will actually relate to each and everyone of our lives. I received valuable knowledge in this class that will be useful throughout my life. Phenomenal professor. -Aaron
Dr. Bowers is my all time favorite professor thus far! I am also writing this the day we had our 7:15 am cumulative final. That's saying something. His tests aren't very easy, but that's for our own good.
Seriously the best prof ive had at ksu in the science area so far! Ahhmazing teacher. I had him for chemistry 1 and enjoyed his class so much I also took him for chemistry 2 in the spring. His tests are soooo hard but he prepares us for them really well. TAKE HIS CLASS YOU WONT REGRET IT.
Dr. Bowers is a great professor. I took his class Chem in our world. He made his class fun and easy to learn useful stuff. Also he was really helpful and easygoing, so don't afraid to ask him questions! Highly recommended!
Wonderful professor!! Funny, clearly explains the concepts, and makes it an enjoyable class. Highly recommend him.
Truely the greatest chemistry professor I have ever had. He really want his students to exceed and goes over and beyond to make it happen. He makes the material understandable to someone that has never taken chemistry before and his tests reflect his lecture slides. THE BEST PROFESSOR IN KENT.
GREAT TEACHER!! Because he is rather young to the profession he makes his lectures very relatable to our everyday lives. Know the major concepts because the exams are cumulative. Helps his students and cares if you understand the material. He doesn't want you to fail. Definitely attend the SI if you are struggling, but go to his office hours!
I enjoyed Dr. Bowers as a professor for General Chemistry I and I would take him for Gen Chem 2 if I had to take another Chem class. He was very helpful everyday that I went into his office hours and tried to clarify everything to the best of his ability. He wants his students to pass, but you have to put in the effort to learn what he is teaching.
Bowers is a really down to earth professor and does a lot to keep interest and attendance up. He knows a lot about general chemistry knowledge and applications but when trying to teach the textbook material it's sometimes a struggle for him. VERY EASY EXAMS AND QUIZZES WHICH IS ABOUT 80% of the course thats all you have to do to pass. I promise.
Dr. Bowers is the best! He cares more about the success of his students than any other professor I have encountered. Gen Chem is tough, but if you have to take it you should definitely go with Dr. Bowers. He makes it somewhat easy to understand, fun, and incredibly interesting. He is also very funny and has gimme bonus questions on every test.
Bowers is hilarious. He made chemistry so enjoyable for me!
Bowers is awesome. Helpful and hilarious. Not the easiest class, but if you work hard, you will do fine. Take him!
Dr. Bowers really made me enjoy learning this semester! Engages with students really well. Quizzes and Tests are pretty tough, you really need to study for them to get an A. Super nice guy, and is willing to work with you.
He is awesome, if you have the chance to take his course, TAKE IT.
David Bowers is the man. I recommend taking him for general chemistry I and II. The material is tough but he teaches it in a way you can actually understand. He's forever a legend.
Attendance is pretty important for this class. He explains things more in depth than what is on his PowerPoints. He's very helpful and wants everyone to do their best. He even curved our first test. Overall, awesome professor!
Bowers has been my favorite professor at Kent State, he knows how to relate well to students and does not place unrealistic expectations on them. He is available outside of class for help and would hold a review sesh every tuesday after class to work on additional problems. Exams were similar to his practice exams online and included extra credit.
Dr. B is the number one man in the Chemisty Dept. at KSU. If you're looking for a helpful, caring, and knowledgable professor, he's your guy. I hate Chemistry, but he makes it easier to understand. He's always down to answer questions in lecture, in office hours and email. Plus he's hilarious so what more could you want? 10/10 would recommend.
Best chemistry professor I have ever had. He really helps you understand the material.
Bowers is awesome. Exams are hard though. I had to try really hard to get an A. Do the practice exams. I did not open the book, just did the practiced exams and I got an A. Good luck
Dr. Bowers is awesome! He is always cracking jokes during lectures and is very relatable. I had already taken Chemistry 1 and Chemistry 2 in high school, so I already knew the material, but I still went to class because it was actually fun and he kept it interesting. Do and understand the practice quizzes and exams and you'll be fine.
Dr. Bowers is a very good professor. Chemistry has never been a strong suit for me but he's been explaining and going at a pace for everyone. If you skip class you miss so much information and screw yourself over. He posts everything on blackboard and is always willing to stop and answer questions. Great professor, would highly recommend!
You must go to class or you will not do well. Bowers is more of a friend than a professor he's funny and a great guy but he tends to just write what's on the slides on the board and not really explain it. His tests are difficult so you must study plenty and you will get a decent grade in the class.
Awesome guy, honestly; but not a good teacher. Does not explain topics enough, and gives super inaccurate practice exams and quizzes. The quizzes and exams are brutal. You have to teach yourself everything. Picked his class because of his high rating on here. Now I'm here to warn you... don't do it unless you've got finesse for chem.
Bowers is the man. He cares about students and is always willing to help! He is laid back and prepares you for exams and quizzes. The practice exams and quizzes are VERY similar to the actual assessments. People on here who say the actual exams are harder probably think so because they use their notes to help them while taking the practice exams.
Bowers is a really cool professor and makes class exciting to go to but his tests are very difficult. Reading his reviews on here made me think he would be an easy class to get an A in but you really need to put the time in if you want to get a good grade. Practice exams are nothing like the real ones. Probably would take another professor.
He is a very good professor but makes it very clear that he wants you to work for your grade. If you master the practice problems you should have no problem in his class. Also, there are random days where he will offer extra credit (because he hates when people skip class) which gives a nice boost on exams so attending every class is beneficial.
Chemistry was never my strong suit until i had Dr. Bowers in class. He made chemistry fun for me and made me want to go to class everyday to learn from him. He was really laid back and super funny and it made chemistry very enjoyable for me!
Professor Bowers is a good professor overall, but his quizzes are extremely hard.
Great Prof! Maybe the best at Kent. Truly cares about students and makes material very easy to understand. Very understanding and lenient. But he will only help you if you actually go to class, he gets worked up about attendance. Absolutely hilarious. Exam questions are no surprise and theres always easy extra credit questions.
Very good. Knew what was going to be on exams. Moves at a good pace through lecture
He is a great guy but did not teach the way I learn. I had him twice for Gen. Chem 1 & 2 and received Ds in both. He isn't good at explaining chemistry to people who "just don't get it". He isn't willing to help you if you are struggling.
By far my favorite professor here at Kent so far! I took both Gen Chem 1 and 2 with him last year. He is laid back and definitely knows what he is talking about, and makes the classroom environment very interactive and interesting. His exams really test your knowledge of content, and his bonus ?s are hilarious. Also, he LOVES chemistry jokes! :)
Dr. Bowers is a really great professor, even though attendance isn't mandatory he gives tons of example problems in class and he goes more in depth with the material that is presented on the slides. Also will put in some slides before the exam that will make up some easy bonus questions. He will go over material over and over if you ask in class!
This man is awesome. Loves the material he teaches and is always willing to put in extra work for any student that needs it. Laid back as hell, cracks jokes, and is an overall awesome dude. best professor in kent.
Dr. Bowers is honestly one of the best professors I have had thus far. He is really funny and makes going to lectures less dreadful. He is very clear with the material and makes sure you fully understand. He is straight forward for what is to be expected on exams and really a great professor. Just pay attention and take notes and you can get an A.
Chemistry can be a difficult subject for some people, but he went through the notes at a great pace and made sure everyone understood the topic at hand before we moved onto the next topic.
I had Bowers for Gen Chem 1 and got an A. I took him again for Gen Chem 2 because he's such a personable man who makes class fun and entertaining, but even with READING the textbook page by page. I did not pass. I got 100 on every homework assignment and did 70-90 on the quizzes. It was the tests I did not do well on at all. Very hard.
Funny guy but he could improve his lecture slides, they're very wordy and unclear. He's sorta willing to help during office hours but sometimes gets a little mad at your questions. His tests and quizzes are very difficult. I put so much effort in studying and the exams are still difficult. He gives a lot of irrelevant homework.
Easily my favorite faculty member so far on this entire campus. Intelligent, engaging, and loves what he teaches which definitely shows through the stories he tells. However - he makes it 100% clear that nothing in this course will be handed to you and it's up to you to work for what you want. Blunt and honest with expectations. HILARIOUS
This class is difficult, but Dr. Bowers is approachable and will answer any questions about the material that you have. This is one of those classes that you'll need the book for; the powerpoint has a lot of exam-related material. Also, I had a mental breakdown in front of him and he didn't make me feel weird about it, so that was pretty cool.
Dr. bowers is best professor in kent state. He knows chemistry very well. He is super funny and i love him.
Bowers is funny. You will laugh during lecture. It's just the content is hard to understand at times. His tests are HARD!! I study and still manage to fail. The tests are nothing like practice exams/quizzes. On the practice exams, he gives you a key, but he doesn't explain how or why he got that answer. The quizzes are multiple choice but HARD!!!
The chem department has been doing a lot to overhaul gen chem. People drop this class a lot because it is so difficult but, it is not really Dr. Bowers' fault. The blame is on how the chem department has the class structured. He is a really funny professor but if it's not for you it's not for you :/
Funny person, good teacher. GO TO RECITATION. You can get all your questions answered and understand topics more. Lecture attendance isnt mandatory but not going will make everything much more difficult to understand. Posts slides online and gives study guides and practice sheets for tests.
Dr. Bowers is not very good at showing exs in class he'll briefly go over them and then that will be the end of it. He gives you access to old exams to help you study for yours but they are always nothing alike. So it's very hard to study for. You don't need the textbook but you will for sure need to buy the access code for the tons of hw he gives.
Take this man's class! Makes a real effort to know how the students feel about the material. If you do your share of work you will pass; because Dr. Bowers is definitely going to do his part.
He's a very good guy. I failed chemistry once and had to retake, but with him it honestly made more sense and I didnt hate it so much. Still a very hard class but he has lots of good resources to help you study. if you HAVE to take chem this is probably your best bet. Still a hard class, but he makes it more manageable.
Bowers is hilarious. He is very helpful during office hours and does not want you to fail. Come to class, take notes, and do the practice problems/exams. I got an A but i worked my ass off. He even gave us an extra credit quiz when the class did really poorly on the 3rd exam. Bad: his exams are nothing like the practice exams
Chem is a hard subject and David makes it fun. Hes very accessible and wants his students to do well. He has a passion for chemistry and the earth. He helps a lot in office hours and makes things easy to understand. He is also very encouraging and believes in his students ability. Great guy and professor.
In all my years of being a student.. absolutely the worst teacher Ive ever had. Acts like everyone knows whats going on and breezes through the whole chapter. If you ask questions he makes it seem like youre dumb for not knowing. His mulitple choice questions on the test try to trick you. It seems like he wants you to fail. Avoid at all costs.
This guy's really funny and can keep a 50 minute chem lecture interesting. I highly recommend taking him.
One of my favorite things about him was that he was very straight forward. The class is pretty exam heavy but the exams are straight forward and he doesn't try to trick you. He also is a generous grader and gives bonus questions/offers partial credit on exams. His lectures are also very beneficial and he explains the material very well.
In all my years at Kent, Bowers is by far the worst professor Ive ever had. Exams try to trick you, lectures are fast paced, and can be a bit snarky towards students. Had to teach myself everything. I wish I had avoided him.
I've heard he's good at teaching chem 1 but chem 2 is awful. he has practice problems and practice exams but exams are COMPLETELY different concepts. multiple choice on exams are very difficult. more than half the class failed the past exam and quiz and he has just shrugged it off. doesn't reply to emails. i could go on and on.
Don't confuse bad teaching with difficulty. Yes the class is hard but Dr. Bowers is an amazing professor. Don't expect him to hold your hand through the course. He expects you to take responsibility for your own learning, but he gives you resources to help you be successful. He wants you to learn, so if you just want an A, you'll be disappointed.
I took Dr. Bowers for Gen Chem I and he was an amazing professor. His lectures were very informative and he formatted his tests straight from the notes. Attendance was very important but if you showed up you could easily pass. I loved taking him for Chem I and he is the only prof I would register a 7:45am Gen Chem II class with.
I love this guy. Frequent Neature Walks in class and constant jokes about beer. He asked if anyone would drink some random chemical, and I said yes. That's how it felt everyday. Good interactions, plenty funny. Neither of us likes multiple choice. Exams questions come from the class you are in, not the practice exam. Just use it as a guide only.
Not a very good professor at all. Its a ridged atmosphere. He just talks at you but isnt really interested in helping you understand the material. He saw that more than 90% of the class were receiving below passing grades but when questions were asked in class he would respond with Well I just taught it thats not what an educator does.
Bowers is the best option for chem. He explains things clearly and if it isnt understood he takes time to explain it again. He always suggests attending office hours and tutoring if you need help and is always willing to take time to make sure you succeed. He genuinely doesnt want anyone to fail, but it is a tough class and requires hard work.
Dr. Bowers is a awesome teacher first off for someone who isnt amazing at chem bowers made it possible to get a decent grade. Really funny guy brings lots of real world applications to chemistry. He doesnt hand you a good grade he sets you up to succeed. You do need to study a lot and attend lecture. Very approachable and easy to understand.
I took Dr. Bowers for Gen Chem 2. He's constantly cracking jokes in class and applies what we're learning to real life to try to help us better understand. That being said, Chem is difficult, and you have to work for it. He gives you practice problems to help and old exams and quizzes to try beforehand. He's always available in office hours to help
I loved Dr Bowers! Very clear and I really felt he care about his students. Every once in a while, I would think he was a little off on what would be on the tests, but for the most part it followed the notes. If you attend class and pay attention, you'll be golden, especially if you have a science mind.
Makes chemistry bearable to learn for someone with little experience. Likes to have fun with students when lecturing and explains concepts well. I would advise going to class and not skipping, mainly b/c he is thorough in his materials. Also very approachable and easy to contact outside of class.
Dr. Bowers is my favorite professor I've had at KSU. He's truly excellent. Expectations for students are made very clear. He's more than willing to meet with you outside of class and is great at explaining concepts in greater depth. He's a fair grader. Don't skip lecture, pay attention, and you can get an A. I nominated him for teacher of the year.
He didnt give us extra credit, the test werent like the lecture or homework examples most of the time, this class is very hard. Hes nice at least.
AMAZING. I took Sujeewani and failed Genchem1 the first time. This professor is extremely understanding and teaches material to help understand concepts very easily. His tests are easy and gives many opportunities for extra points to boost your grade! He wants you to succeed unlike Sujee. If you are new to chem, TAKE HIM.
I've had Bowers for DKS and gen chem 1 and he is terrible for both. He NEVER replies to emails and is not helpful when asking questions. I have straight As in all my classes except this one. I studied sooo much for this class and did tutoring and still didnt do as well I wanted. Please save yourself the tears and get a different professor!!!
Im sure he was a great teacher for almost everyone else here, but they had him in person. His exams are nothing like the example problems, and extremely difficult. I had a tutor for most of the semester, and i still didnt have a high enough grade to go to chem 2. I appreciate that he got to everyones questions during lecture though.
Never found his class boring. Great guy with awesome lectures and useful homework. Curves A LOT and the homework is all due on one day at the end of the semester so you don't have to worry about it. 3 quizzes 3 tests and final excellent class. Showed his personality and showed he cared and was more than just a professor.
professor bowers is just an very average, mediocre teacher. like nothing was extremely impressive or fascinating but it also wasnt annoying or tedious. just very very ordinary? it wasnt until the last week of school that i realized how boring and absolutely average this class truly was. his class was very well structured for remote learning.
bowers is one of the best chemistry professors out of the rest. chem is not an easy class, but bowers makes it somewhat easier. this isnt a class you can ace without putting in the effort, but id definitely try to get bowers out of the rest (i had him for gen chem 1 and 2) definitely recommend
Dr. Bowers is a super relaxed and understandable professor. I took him for General Chemistry II my freshman year. Chem is inherently a difficult class but he makes it doable. Simply by nature of the course you are going to have to study and put the work in to get a good grade, but Dr. Bowers makes it possible. Probably your best bet for Gen Chem.
Bowers has been the most amazing prof I've had in my 2 years at kent! he really is passionate about his job and really cares about his students. He is always accessible outside of class and if you need help with anything you can email him or visit his office. He really wants his students to succeed and teaches super well. deftly recommend him!
I had Dr. Bowers for Chemistry 1 and I absolutely loved him. We transitioned to online due to Covid but he was great at accommodating online format. I took his class Spring 2020. I had a different professor when first took Chem 1 and had to retake it. I think Dr. Bowers is good at making difficult concepts easy to understand. I highly recommend him
I had Dr. Bowers for Gen Chem 2 and he was amazing! I struggled in chem 1 because my professor wasnt great but Bowers definitely brought back the love for chem that I lost in chem 1. He listens to what his students would find helpful ie. extra credit. He is also great at keeping the class engaged
Although I failed, I actually really enjoyed his class. I skipped a lot so I didn't know what was going on, but whenever I reached out to him he was very understanding and helpful! I'll be taking this class again over the summer and I'm not upset about it. His tests are kinda hard, but it's chem so that should be expected. Overall, great teacher.
Dr. Bowers was a good professor. Explained the material in a way that was easy to understand. A lot of people find chem hard but Dr. Bowers made the class fun and was pretty lenient with some things. Really nice person willing to stay after class and help you out or just talk.
bowers is so awesome, he cares about how you do in the class and makes the class content so that way the students can have influence on somethings. he is pretty funny as well and is just in general a nice guy, the class is lecture heavy obviously but he is by far the best chemistry professor
Look, Dr. Bowers is an good professor. But he will really make you work for your grade. There were people I knew who took other Chem professors at Kent and barely had to do a thing to get by and pass but not Bowers. Tests are very hard so expect to study your butt off. If you study enough, you will do good. He explains things well.
Dr. Bowers is just a great professor. For how much info you need to learn in chem you should expect a hard time in this class. However, I currently have Dr. Sujeewani and would do anything to have Dr. Bowers again. He owns up to his mistakes and gives points back if everyone misses the question. He is a great professor and I highly recommend.
Dr. Bowers cares a lot about his student's well-being, even if you only have him for a first-year class. The class consisted of interviewing a staff member, going to the May 4th Museum, watching some videos, and just attending class. The assignments are easy to do, and he makes everything due at the end of the semester. Plus, he gives extra credit.
Prof. Bowers is very understanding and willing to meet and help students outside of class. There were issues with the courseware platform for homework switching over to Canvas. He extended the deadline and was understanding of issues that arose due to the switching of the software. You still have to put in the effort, but it is worth it.
Every genchem course will require you to work, Dr. Bowers was amazing! If you want to do the best you can, you have to attend class; he can't help you if you're not there. He wants all his students to succeed- is excited to help you if you go to his office hours. Take Professor Bowers! I don't see how any gen chem course could be better than this!
His lectures were pretty much what the slides said. Exams were tough, gives maybe one extra credit assignment.
He was funny and didn't lecture ALL the time like other professors I've had. All quizzes are MC which I didn't like but that was the only thing. There were always 4-6 bonus questions at the end of every test. Homework was online and was on covered material so it wasn't difficult. Office hours are very informative and take advantage of them.
He is very strict when it comes to in class expectations. He is very transparent on what he expects from you for exams. I had never taken chem in high school and this is a very challenging course, but the way he teaches and going to office hours for extra help made it possible to pass. Pay attention to his notes and expect to study 25/8!
I will never say anything bad about this professor. As someone who came in and dreaded chemisty, he made this class enjoyable. Yes the class is tough but hes very willing to help, he wants his students to be successful. If you have the opportunity take him!
I took both General Chemistry I and II with Professor Bowers. Although his classes were rather challenging, he does an excellent job making the content easy to digest. These course aren't meant to be easy courses. As long as you actively pay attention in class and stay on top of lecture material you should do just fine.
The lectures were really great. Since Gen Chem II is more math/formula focused, he made sure to give lots of example problems to make sure you know what you're doing. His study guides were pretty weak but the practice exams made up for that. He's super funny and I would definitely suggest him over other professors
This is my absolute favorite Professor at Kent State University. I enjoyed his class so much that I switched my major to biochemistry. I took General Chemistry 1 and 2 with Professor Bowers. I got an A in both. Quite a few of my friends were frustrated in the class, but it was never because of the professor. He made the class very interesting!!
Very good lecture, makes understanding easier.
he was super nice and the best chemistry teacher I've had. He is super funny, but you definitely will need to study and put aside good time to review and practice. if you don't study, you wont pass. if you don't go to lecture, good luck.
Lots of readings, videos, and assignments. Took way too much time away from my major classes, I am so happy this class is over lol
Professor Bowers brings an engaging style to this tough chemistry course. While exams are challenging, he explains concepts well. Utilize office hours and resources like unstuck ai to succeed.
This class was challenging. I went to tutoring everyday to study for this class. Make sure to put in the time needed for this class. Quizzes are SUPER hard but tests aren't too bad. He is a nice guy and genuinely wants you to succeed. Do the worksheets he posts on canvas they help.
Really great professor. I enjoyed this class a lot more than Chemistry 1, although I did get a lower grade because the material was much more challenging and there is A LOT. If you don't go to lecture or don't stay on top of concepts discussed in class it will be really hard for you. But I struggle with Chem and got through with a B.
While I understand Professor Bowers teaches many classes, I wish he could find the time to record his own videos instead of using a coworker's. Her videos were okay, and I could grasp the concepts after a few watches. I'm taking Chem 1 at my high school, and that was the basis of this class. When it comes to your final, know your functional groups!
He's a great lecturer and person, but just be ready cause his exams and quizzes are HARD. If you can do the example problems he gives in class by yourself, it'll be a leg up for the exam because the questions are worded very similarly. Attendance isn't taken, but if you aren't going to lectures, then you WILL fail the class.
I would highly recommend because his lectures are clear and easy to understand. I would recommend going to lecture because he gives extra information and very helpful examples on the board throughout. You will have to study hard, because the exams aren't super easy, but he teaches all of the information that will be on the exams.
