his lectures were very interesting and as long as you go to class the tests are easy also. there are 2 papers but he grades them leniently and a series of "minute papers" that he uses for attendence. i would definitely recommend him.. just go to class!!
he made the class interesting, and is really enthusiastic when telling stories. There are minute papers which are easy, used just for attendance. On tests he gives you a sheet of paper with all the key terms. The two essays were graded fairly. Listen to his lectures and you will get an A. The book was barely used, though it was helpful.
was a good teacher overall. the papers were a good grade booster and the tests were challenging.
He's really really sweet and if you go to class and take notes on his lectures (which are pretty muhc the readings in story form) the tests are really easy!
AWESOME. AWESOME. Lecture outlines, crystal clarity in lecture. Always willing to help. tests are essays, in which he gives the thesis a week before hand. TAKE BRANSCOME!
easy straight forwad class unless your an idiot
great teacher! he is really nice and he gets really enthusiastic about the material. tests are easy, just short essays and there are a few in class assignments for attendance but he basically goes over it in class before everyone turns them in. speaks very very clear and is easy to understand....seriously take him!
Take him! Don't buy the books, just print out the lectures and add to them. He tells you about each story in the lecture so you never have to read them. Very lenient grading and one make up test. Funny guy too.
Mr. Branscome was the sweetest teacher I've ever had! His lectures are extremely clear, and you can find them online so you don't have to go to class. For attendance he has a "minute paper" but they're super easy. I would love to take another class of his.. he made mythology so much fun and interesting!
Really boring class unless you love mythology. dont buy books, all lecture outlines are online. minute papers about once a week for attendance, easy. tests a little harder because they were essay and he knows when you try to make stuff up to fill space. but he tells you topics for essay before test so if you understand it, should be easy to study.
Great overall guy. Put's all notes online, but adds to them in class. Books just if you like Mythology and want extra study, can get A on essay tests without them. Does attendance about once a week for bonus points. Can be dull if you don't like mythology, but if do, a ton of information, pictures and interesting video clips!
Extremely clear and easy to understand. Material is interesting and pretty easy to follow. Dr. Branscome is a very good lecturer, and the exams are not very difficult. His Exams essay tests and he gives you the topics ahead of time so you can specify your studying. You can also drop a test. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone.
Lectures are not very exciting, but he is very clear. He is a really nice and helpful person. Three essay tests in which you get the topics a week or so ahead of time and your lowest grade is dropped. Final is same format, not cumulative. Very lenient grader. Notes are posted online before class. Don't buy the text books.East A with a little effort
Awesome professor. His class is not difficult and the tests are all in the form of an essay. There are two tests and a final. He also lets you take a "make up test" incase you f-ed up on one of the two tests. ALSO, he gives an extra credit assignment at the end of the semester to raise your grade by a possible 2%. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Possibly the easiest class offered at FSU. Also probably the most boring (or maybe that's just because I hate mythology). I spent most of the classes playing solitaire on my computer or sleeping, didn't study until about 3 hours before my tests, and ended up with an A in the class.
DO NOT BUY ANY OF THE BOOKS! Print out the lecture outlines, go to class and take notes on the outline, and the tests are no problem at all. I never touched a book, very easy, even though the lectures werent the most exciting.
ancient myth with branscome is such an easy class. like easier then my 9th grade regular classes. you dont have to go to class, its interesting and you just print off the notes online and bring them to class. he lectures straight from the notes and he loves what he teaches. hes such a sweet, understanding man. easy way to get your x and gordon rule
Sweetest guy, really really interested in the subject he teaches, and it shows. I LOVE coming to class, cause it's like story time back in preschool. He's very approachable, helpful, and the tests are a cinch. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
great teacher, great guy. knows his stuff and makes class everyday a lot of fun. i didnt even have to use any text books becuase his lectures were so great - so if you go to class everyday tests are easy - he gives you essay topics ahead of time and i learned a lot !!! TAKE HIM !!!
Easy class as long as you can write decently. Definitely don't buy the books, if you happen to want to read one of the pieces they're all online anyways.
He is such a clear, understanding teacher. Some classes get a little boring, but many are interesting because it does feel like story time. Don't buy the books you don't need them!!! All you have to do is print out the lecture notes and add to them if you want when he lectures. He is such an easy grader, I got 100 on my second test!
I agree the class is easy if you read over the lecture notes. However, I received a high A on the first test and then lower grades on the other tests even though I completed them them all the same way. Something is up with the grading and it was completely unfair. Branscome is a great teacher, but his TAs were extremely inconsistent and unfair.

He is the best teacher for ancient myth. Everyone who doesnt have him, wishes they did. He does attendance points every so often so go to class. The TA's grade relatively easy so getting at least a B is no problem. One take home essay and its not bad at all. All tests have the same format and he posts the questions online. Buy student notes= A.
One of the best teachers at FSU!! Post the 5 essay questions a week before the test. He takes 3 from those 5 and you choose 2 to do your essays on. Has 10 names/terms which you need to define and you choose 5. If you dont get an A in this class then you must be wearing a helmet
here it is straight: this is the easiest class you will ever take in college. i never bought a book, listened to a lecture, or studied more than the 5 minutes in class before the exam started, and got an A. you are an absolute idiot if you do not take him.
I took the class online and it was great. Just remember to skim the lecture notes and submit your weekly paper. Keep the lecture notes open during the timed quizzes and you can always find the answers in time. There were two papers. The TA graded kind of hard on the 1st and ridiculously easy on the 2nd. Take it online and knock out a Gordon rule.
Very nice professor. He is the slowest grader I've ever seen but besides that this class is really easy. You don't need the book. Rather easy tests. Occasional attendance quiz. He is friendly and very knowledgeable on his subject.
I took the class just to fulfill a Gordon rule requirement but ended up really enjoying the class. He is a good teacher. He posts outlines online and it is to your benefit to go to class and take notes and add to his outline. Studying just his outline can be very confusing. I got a 100% on both test and an A on the final. However, I studied a lot f
Took CLT3378 with him freshman year. Excellent teacher. Knows what he's talking about, clearly laid out course, gives you all you need to study for his tests. Occasional attendance quizzes, so attendance can be minimal, but I really enjoyed the class and his lectures especially. Also, He kind of looks like Peter Griffin...
Amazing professor. I was just filling my schedule and trying to get the gordon rule thing, but I love this class and recommend it to everyone.
This guy is the best teacher at Florida State. Needless to say from the million other posts TAKE HIM. Ancient mythology is the most interesting class I've ever taken. You will love it.
Dr. Branscome isn't too bad. Go to Bill's and get the student notes packet. Pretty easy just make sure you study for a few before the test and you will get an A.
DO NOT LISTEN TO OTHER POSTS. IF YOU TAKE THIS CLASS YOU WILL HAVE TO STUDY! I guess Branscome is the easiest mythology class but however it is not an easy A. Exams: 5 out of 10 ids, 4 out of 6 short response, 1 out of 2 thesis paragraphs (he emails u 4 in advance). His lecture outlines make no sense unless you go to class. Take only if you will st
SO simple and an easy A. I was worried when my first test and essay were high B's but I got 100 on the next two along with an A on the final. I bought the target copy packet and would skim through the stories and get all the info from there. In case of emergencies I would spark notes stories but that wasn't really necessary. Take him if you can!
He is an amazing teacher. I took the class online and it was pretty easy. You dont have to read the books. He posts his lectures and they are really helpful when writing the essays and taking the tests. He is also really helpful when you email. Love this teacher.
branscome is so sweet, helpful, and passionate. the class doesn't require too much work but you absolutely have to invest a good few hours of studying before every class (and if you dont go to class and pay attention youll have to buy a study guide from someone). id definitely recommend this class!
I liked going to clas to listen to him tell us the myth stories. He posts the lecture outlines online which is helpful. You need to reference the books for the two essays. The exams require quite a bit of studying, but I was able to get an A.
Lecture outlines will not tell you all info you need to know, so go to class. I'm not interested in mythology but heard the class was easy, so I took it. One of the TAs was really harsh on the first paper, and gave me a C. I went in and he raised it to a B. Tests are easy as long as you know the stories and can memorize lots of names.
It's obvious he loves his job and he knows what he is talking about. Even though he has lecture outlines online, I found it more helpful to just take my laptop to class and make my own during lecture. Didn't read any of the material on the 2nd test and got a 98 just by studying definitions and looking over my personal notes. Take the class.
Great teacher! All the lecture notes are online. Just go to class, follow on the notes, and skim the reading. I got a 99 in the class, and hardly felt stressed at all. He explains everything very well, and the essay topics are very easy. If you don't get an A in this class, it is your own fault.
This is not an easy class if you are not interested in the subject. The tests are super hard, definitely not an easy gordon rule.
Quite a bit of work to memorize all the terms & remember the stories. He lectures well, but you will need the spend much time to get 4.0. Attendance needed to get 100 on quizzes. You must do extra credit!!
He's probably the best teacher I have had at FSU so far. He's engaging, funny, & easy to listen to. His lectures aren't boring at all & he tells myths in a fun and interesting way (even if you don't normally like the subject, he's great). There's lots of memorization (esp. if you're new to myth), but this is a great class and even better teacher!
Fairly easy class. Prof is chill. Notes are online, so just go to class and listen halfheartedly. Attendence is important bcus he does in-class assignments, which are laughably easy. TA was strict on my essay and gave me a bad grade and that ticked me off. Other than that, tests are easy, but require studying. Fairly easy Gordon Rule class
Very easy class! Exams are super easy and he gives you all the information you need on the study guide. Just go to class and listen, complete the study guide and you will be set. You must go to class to do well, the assigned readings can be a little difficult to understand but he explains them well. Easy A, not demanding, take him!
Great Professor! Didn't complete any of the assigned readings and received a 101 in the class. If you attend class, listen, and do the study guides you will do well in this class. Essay topics are easy and he gives 10 points extra credit on every test. If you're looking for an easy Gordon Rule, I highly recommend Branscome.
I am about halfway through this class right now and I honestly think it great. Professor Branscome is a good teacher, and he keeps the audience involved by asking questions throughout the lecture. It's probably my favorite class right now despite being a science major. I definitely recommend taking this class if you have even a slight interest.
I loved this class! It was the only class I looked forward to going to this semester. Branscome keeps the lectures interesting and lively. He has in-class assignments and I don't think you could pass the test without going so even though attendance isn't mandatory, I would go. The tests are easy as long as you know the myths!!
getting an a in this class is very doable if youre gonna put in a little effort. he goes over the readings in class so if you listen in class youll know the plot, but you have to study the terms before the test no matter what and there's a lot. very reasonable teacher; and a nice guy too.
Dr. Branscome knowns his stuff! The class may not be as easy as you expect though. Study EVERYTHING on the study guide for the test!!!!
A great teacher! just do the study guides and read and you'll do fine. Also go to class it'll really help you understand the myths.
Two 1500 word essays and three exams (including final) plus random attendance points. The tests are ace-able if you spend a few days prior studying.
This class is not only really easy, but Branscome is also an excellent teacher. Im not exceptionally smart or anything, and I rarely paid attention in class and would only read the lecture outline and the study guides like 2 days before each test, and never scored below a 95 on any test. Take this class if you want something interesting and easy.
He makes the lectures so interesting. He's loud and clear. He also gives go in-class assignments which are easy A's if you actually attend class. 2 1500-word essays, 3 exams. Really, the class is based on your essays so go to the TA's because they're the ones that grade them.
All you need to do is go to class and look over the notes and you'll be fine! He's extremely passionate about what he's teaching and although its pretty boring he'll keep you interested.
Dr. Branscome makes the material super clear during class lectures and he uploads study guides on blackboard to help students out. Basically, just study those outlines really thoroughly and youll be fine for the tests. The essays require alot of time and effort though. Visit the TA for the class if you need help.
Dr. B is a great, enthusiastic lector. Reading for his class helps for the exams. He really tests your knowledge and understanding of the myths so don't brush it off as some simple elective. Gives in-class assignments but if you pay attention they're easy extra points towards your grade. A class I was pleasantly surprised with how much I learned!
By far the best class I've take at Florida State! Reading for the class definitely helps you prepare for the exams, showing up and actually paying attention makes a huge difference in your grade as well. Take him! You'll be surprised at how much you actually learn. He's such a great professor!
Dr. Branscome is a great professor. I enjoyed his lectures, which were clear and concise. He is more than happy to help you, and answer your questions. He made Ancient Mythology pretty interesting, and even fun. He offers some extra credit as well. His tests are based completely off of his notes, and there are no tricks.
He is a really nice man and makes all of the readings really clear if you go to the lectures. Attendance isn't necessarily mandatory, but there are pop quizzes so skip at your own risk. Tests are easy if you pay attention in class or read the myths. Only one paper and very little homework.
Take IN DEPTH notes - add on to his powerpoint notes. Don't miss class - there are easy 4 sentence pop quizzes but they count as 20% of grade, & tests are 100% notes. Study a few days before tests - names are tricky. Make note of which gods are binatural. Honors section had 3 extra easy papers. You DONT have to read the myths bc he goes over them
Don't miss class because there are pop quizzes. Lectures aren't too bad, he goes over the myths that you read in class, so the readings aren't essential but they help for tests. Only one paper and there's an extra credit assignment at the end of the semester
Very good at preparing you for what to expect. He uploaded the entire course's notes, study guides, etc. at beginning of the semester. He gives pop quizzes in class that count towards a participation grade. He offers one extra credit assignment. BE AWARE: VERY strict grader on papersessays!!! His lectures are him reading notes provided on BB.
painfully boring if you hate mythology but manageable. 3 tests each 20%, i-clicker 20%, essay 20%. i-clicker points brought me down so pay attentiongo to class. he's understandinghelpful if you email him. invest time into studying, not just the night before but you only really need to skim the stories. notes have minimal words but understandable.
Uploads ALL materials for class at very beginning on semester. Very tough grader on papers. VERY LONG reading assignments! Too much HW. He honestly expects way too much from students. If you are not interested in mythology, this class will be a nightmare for you.
He's a very nice guy, but if you aren't interested in ancient myths and historical stories DO NOT take this class. It isn't an easy A, but if you study hard enough it is possible. Don't skip this class and expect to pass. Boring teaching style. Doesn't answer emails in timely matter. Very nice guy though!
One of the greatest teachers I've had at FSU. Sincerely wants his students to succeed. Such a kind person who genuinely cares about the subject he teaches. I will miss his class.
His tests are quite difficult, but if you do the required reading and pay attention during lectures you will be fine. If you don't like to read, then this class may not be for you. However, I found it very interesting and that had to do with Mr Branscome being passionate about the subject.
I took this class because everyone said it was the easiest literature based humanities course offered at FSU. This Fall, Branscome changed the entire class's structure, making what used to be simple multiple choice tests essay tests. It was horrible. I barely skated by with a B in the class, and it was my lowest grade that semester.
He's a really sweet guy and loves what he does! The only reason I struggled so much in this class is because I would online shop in class and not pay attention or take notes what so ever. The readings are LONG and difficult, but if you pay attention in class you should be perfect! The tests aren't hard have EC. Iclickers based on lecture. Good.
My opinion: Expect to read numerous lengthy, complex/unintelligible poems and memorize each action, who said what to whom, and the history. He'll tell you what he thinks they symbolize but it doesn't matter, just memorize. This turns an otherwise fun topic into a tedious one. Tough grader, a single error will deduct points in any response.
He's great at telling the myths & very enthusiastic about them. His tests are kind of tough in a sense that you have to compare the myths to each other and that can get tricky, but he does give extra credit. Don't miss the ICA's (in class assignments).. i.e. go to class.
I walked into this class and on the first day he told us that the class would be tough, but for a 3000-level class, it wasn't that bad. You really don't need the book as long as you show up to lecture because I never read and I did fine. If you're good at recalling details and notes, you'll do fine. He does extra credit to help your grade as well.
Dr. Branscome was an excellent professor and took his time to explain all concepts. There are only 3 writing assignments and tests for this class, all of which are easily attainably A's if you study/start working a couple days in advance.
Definitely go to class! Professor Branscome does these things called ICA's and you need 10 out of the 12-13 given to get full participation credit. Also, make sure to pay attention during the lectures because that's usually the material that the ICA's cover. Prof. Branscome is a great teacher with an awesome personality. By far, my favorite class.
Overall he was a good professor. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about the myths he was teaching, and the lectures were always interesting. Not gonna lie, his test were tough and you had to work hard to get a good grade on them. Other grades in the class included 3 writing assignments and open-note in class quizzes.
do's: 1. go to class 2. read the assigned content 3. use the study guides don't: 1. neglect reading assignments 2. skip class branscome is super passionate about the subject. I absolutely hate it, I took the class for the credit satisfaction. I am not even remotely interested in Mythology but he is an incredible professor regardless.
Dr. Branscome is unreasonably passionate about ancient mythology. It's easy to skip class because attendance isn't mandatory. Don't get carried away because he does random attendance quizzes that count for 20% of your grade. Tests are VERY specific, make sure you know the in's and out's of the myths and their backgrounds.
GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! He talks about a lot of myths and they can get pretty confusing so having him explain them to you personally helps a ton, especially right before exams go over study guide w/ him. Attendance is but isn't mandatory, he randomly does pop questions and they count for 20% of your grade so not going to class can drop your grade.
If you go to the lecture and take all the in class quizzes you will have an easy A in this class. There is a lot of reading in this class. If you show up to class each day when Dr. Branscome is going over the outlines and spend some time studying for the exams, you should have no problem. There was also 3 easy writing assignments.
I had an extremely hard time in this class. There is A LOT of material to know and the study guides he give are about 8 pages. I worked very hard throughout the semester but still only ended up with a C. He is a great professor and is very passionate about the subject, but it was not a subject that interested me. 3 super easy papers!

I worked very hard throughout the semester but still only ended up with a C. He is a great professor and is very passionate about the subject, but it was not a subject that interested me.
Go to class if only for the ICAs, it'll boost your grade. Tests are very difficult, but Branscome is very passionate about the subject and his lectures are pretty interesting. Before class reading isn't mandatory but buy the books to study for the tests, some of the myths and texts are difficult to find online.
Super easy course, but I'm someone who likes mythology. Very passionate about the subject matter, even if not the most interesting person in the world. Readings aren't SUPER mandatory as long as you go to class. If you skip class you'll probably lose important info. Clear expectations and a nice guy.
I was hesitant to take this class at first honestly because of the reviews but Branscome is a really good professor. His power points are set up pretty vaguely but he explains every thing in detail during class time. Some of the myths are super long but honestly go to lecture and study the study guide and you will be fine. Does offer extra credit!
I took this course online and didn't regret it! Weekly tests and discussion boards plus one 3 page paper. Ended up with an A, even though some of the tests were challenging. I really enjoyed it!
Very passionate and knowledgeable on mythology. Show up and answer the ICA's and thats 15% of your grade you get a 100 on. Just read the myths, study the study guides for the readings, and you should pass the exams easy. there are 2 easy writing assignments about some myths, no word count and one 1500 word essay towards the end of the semester.
I screwed up this semester and I never went to class but then realized how much it mattered at the end of the semester. He's passionate about mythology, but the lectures are so dull. There were really three writing assignments, two online exams, a final, and random in-class assignments. Wouldn't have been hard if I would have started stronger
The lectures were boring, but were informative on the myths we were talking about for that class. The ICAs he randomly assigns throughout the semester are easy and account for 15% of your final grade, you can miss three and still get a 100 on them. The exams were online and easy. Definitely an easy class if you need a writing credit
This class was ways harder than it should have been. Even when studying for tests with every reading they were too difficult.
Branscome is great. Mythology is a difficult subject and he breaks stories down very well. Attendance is absolutely necessary because everything he emphasizes in class will be on the test and he doesnt put all class notes online. Tests are difficult but manageable if you dont procrastinate/study well. Very interesting course, I learned a lot.
Dr. Branscome obviously knows his stuff. He takes time to thoroughly explain the myths which, by themselves, are extremely confusing. He breaks them down and makes references to things you might understand easier. The tests were straight forward but very specific so get ready to memorize
Branscome makes the class fun. He's really into what he's teaching and cares about the students. There were 3 papers that weren't challenging and he is a really fair grader. I personally thought the tests were hard but my friends tended to do well. Go to class and read the target pack and you'll be good. Also he gives ICA's randomly so go to class.
A sweet boy. You must go to class everyday to complete the ICAs, but other than that, very light workload. He makes the class interesting.
He's very clear about what he wants you to do and as long as you do the readings and pay attention in class you'll be fine. You have to really know your stuff for the exams its almost impossible to bs your way through those
Super easy if you actually try. Do the 3 papers that are worth the same as a test grade (easy A's), and just be able to retell the stories he went over for tests. You do have to study, but again, you just need to know the stories/myths. The in class assessments are not super easy (I get 1/2pts) but they barely affect your grade. He is a great prof.
He's a fantastic professor. He really knows the material and is super passionate about it. The tests are pretty story-specific so you have to at least do the readings. Would definitely take again.
Dr. Branscome's class is one of the easiest I've ever taken. You do need to go to class because he goes over the readings and helps you understand the works (which are confusing without his help. You def. can't just google what's happening and get help). 3 easy WA and 3 tests (short answer based on quotes that are easy if you go to class)
Dr. B shows a clear love of the material he's teaching. He gives reading assignments and goes over the myths in detail in class each day. You need to read/go to class to understand the material. His tests give a quote from the reading and you have to answer questions on it. Very easy if you read/go to class. Highly recommend his class!
I came into this class with low expectations, but Dr. Branscome made me so interested in the topic that I forgot I was even earning credit. He is so passionate about the material and makes it fun to learn. Definitely try to do readings before class, you'll understand it a lot better hearing him explain it after you've read it.
He is very into the topic and it all help you be also. I took this for the gen ed credits and i am happy about it. I have an A and really didn't break my back with the course. If you show up and read you will do fine. The papers are easy, the third one i the only tough one. Definitely recommend
This class is not an easy A so don't take it if that is what you are expecting, but it isn't hard. Branscome is very passionate and does a great job explaining the myths in his lectures so it's super important you go to class. Trying to figure the myths out on your own can be very difficult. Also, random attendance is taken throughout the semester
The content is really interesting. Be ready to read a new myth before every class.
Goes over every myth clearly in class but do the readings to makes sure you know the information from the text too. Clear guidelines for tests and papers. pop quizzes on lectures. Go to class and pay attention and you will pass. interesting myths. quirky guy so makes lectures interesting
Branscome is a great professor and really cares about his students passing! The class is very straightforward. Do the reading, listen to his lectures and the exams are pretty easy. He gives random attendance quizzes but you are allowed to miss 3. Overall, pretty decent class.
I would take CLT 3378 with Dr. Branscome again in a heartbeat. The myths are very difficult to understand, but he does an amazing job explaining it. He posts outlines for notes on each myth covered, so pay attention to his lectures and take notes. If you do this, you will get an A. He is so kind and respectful. I loved his class! Very interesting.
It's so refreshing to have a professor who loves what he teaches so much. His tests are easy if you study. Overall not my favorite subject I just took it to satisfy a bunch of requirements but he made the class super fun and easy to understand!
13 pop quizzes throughout the semester and you need to be there for 10 of them to get a 100 for participation basically. 3 papers throughout the semester that are fairly easy. 3 exams that get harder as they go on (Final was on a lot of material but not necessarily difficult). You don't need to buy the textbooks just get a friend to send you a co
Branscome is one of my favorite professors. He's so passionate about mythology & makes class enjoyable. Took this class to get a lot of req out of the way and it was a good decision. Tests are easy as long as u go over his lecture notes & read myths. Papers are also very straight forward. Great class
Dr. Branscome is an OUTSTANDING professor. I genuinely loved taking the class with him. If you have the opportunity to take his class, DO IT.
I took this class as a gen ed req and it was an amazing decision. The class is easy and doesn't require too much work, just skim the readings and listen to the lectures and you're fine. Dr. Branscome is also obviously passionate about this and wants all his students to succeed. Beware though, there are 13 (easy) pop quizzes in the semester.
I really enjoyed Dr. Branscome's class! He made ancient Greek history fun and I truly enjoyed coming to his lectures. There are 3 tests, 1 paper, and weekly quizzes. They can be challenging, but if you do the readings and pay attention in class you should do well. Overall, highly recommended!
Amazing professor. You can tell that he is really passionate about what he teaches. You have to read a lot for this course and the readings are often hard to understand but he explains them beautifully in his lectures. Tests are very easy if you've paid attention and done the readings. He offers extra credit on every test. Cannot recommend enough.
Dr. Branscome is an amazing professor. He cares about his students' success and is very passionate about what he is teaching. He encourages class participation. He releases all of his lecture notes online so attendance is not always mandatory, however his lectures are super informative and helpful for the tests.
One of the most passionate professors I've ever experienced. Knows his stuff really well and is dedicated in trying to get as much of it to you as possible. The tests aren't too difficult once you know the stories. Only time the grading was tough was when his TA graded. You can explain your point during office hours and get those points back.
Branscome is a solid professor who obviously cares about the subject he teaches. If you actually go to his lectures you'll do fine in the class; attendance isn't mandatory but a solid portion of the grade is pop quizzes that he does during class. Not a hard class at all, just expect to read.
One of the kindest professors I have had. He knows his stuff and as long as you read the stories you should be fine. He does in class quizzes every now and then but he does extra that will help boost your grade.
Branscome knows what he's talking about and is always willing to answer questions. Expect weekly quizzes which may seem overwhelming but every answer is explicitly given in class lectures, so make sure to show up. He's clearly passionate about what he teaches which makes for interesting lectures. His was my favorite class that semester.
Great professor who cares about his lectures and his students. Must read to know what is going on, but he does a great job with lecture and lecture outlines if you don't understand what is happening in the class. Three exams and three papers.
Dr. Branscome is one of the nicest professors at FSU. He is clear about what he wants, is always willing to help if you are struggling, and gives extra credit. He explains the stories in detail so go to class and do the in class assignments, they're easy grade boosters. Overall a wonderful experience!
Dr. Branscome seems like a cool guy, but you should avoid taking this class if you can. It wasn't necessarily difficult, but it covered a LOT of material and it wasn't all that interesting. However, if you need a SIP credit, this definitely isn't the worst one out there.
David Branscome is a very nice teacher and is very clear about what assignments you will have throughout the class. However, this is definitely one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. The information is impossible to understand and tests are extremely hard. 3 writing assignments that are pretty easy.
Prof. Branscome is an actual sweetheart. Cares about his students and provides extra credit and useful feedback. Attendance ISN'T mandatory but there are In-class Assignments randomly that are 15% of your grade overall. Papers are easy if you follow the instructions and the tests are really easy also! Just read the stories over & do the study guide
Branscome is an well-informed professor. Lectures can be writing intensive and the material is boring but Branscomes teaching makes up for it. Three super easy exams with extra credit, two 500 word essays and one 1500 word essay and 12 in class assignments. attendance isn't mandatory and skipping class is an option as he posts everything on Canvas.
David Branscome is very knowledgable. I would definitely recommend this class to satisfy the X and SIP requirements. Classes are very interesting and the tests are easy. In class assignments are open-notes and sometimes he'll even give us the answers. He is very helpful during office hours and is always willing to help.
Branscome is the sweetest professor i've ever had. the class material can seem overwhelming and confusing but he tells the stories amazingly and really makes it fun and easy to understand. if you try, an A is totally possible.
Cares very much about the subject he teaches, enthusiastic, and makes the myths entertaining.
One of the best professors I've had at FSU. You can tell he is passionate about what he teaches, and he makes you excited to learn about mythology. I wish he would have graded assignments a bit faster, but other than that I have no complaints. You'll have to do quite a bit of reading, but all of the tests and papers are pretty self-explanatory.
The class is very interesting, but as the semester gets on it can become boring. Reading and remembering details will be very helpful for exams. Making comparisons between the myths is a big part of the class. Dr. Branscome is very open to helping students with any issues or questions they might have.
Took for honors. Class was so different than anything Ive ever taken so it was hard to grasp the material. My best advice is to follow along with his lecture outlines and add to the notes. Clarify everything and study the vocabulary a lot. (Quizlet) the tests arent bad, I somehow always pulled out a good grade. icas will help you in the end
Took CLT 3378 online over Summer C and it wasn't bad at all. Just be on top of the discussion boards, readings, and quizzes. The only complaint I had were TAs taking too long to grade material & giving vague feedback on papers.
Overall hes a great teacher, very specific on what will be on his tests, how he grades and what he likes in his papers. Study guides are very helpful. Make sure to buy all the books, you read each day for class but knowing a basic summary you'll be good. He's very understanding and kind.
This is the most useless class you could possibly take. It's kinda easy, but it's a ton of memorizing for stuff you don't care about. Branscome is a solid choice as he's passionate about it and he knows the not a whole lot of people are, so he doesn't grade very tough. It's an alright class, but there's absolutely nothing to get out of it.
One of the most adorable professors at Florida State. He's also a great teacher; he explains all the myths as if he is telling you a story. Definitely an easy A if you put in a little bit of work before the exams.
Overall, he is a great professor! Really cares about students, he's very clear on what will be on test, and what he expects for papers. Be prepared to read for class, lectures are a little long, but also does in class assignments almost every class, he tends to complete them with you, so not hard to pass. I recommend taking him!
I just had a random flashback to one of his lectures last spring. So engaging. He's the man. Cares about his students, very clear in his grading, just take notes during lecture from what he says and attach it to the lecture note sheet that this kingly professor provides. Up there with Mark Ziegler as one of the best current FSU professors.
A want to be English teacher. Got As in all my college English classes and got Cs on his essays. Have my revised essay a worse grade than my original yet it had less mistakes... overall terrible class... would rather take calculus or another chemistry class than this waste of time and gpa
this class had lots of reading and you have to write an essay for this class and he grades it really tough... i turned in a revised essay and fixed everything he said and only got a point higher. if you dont read you wont pass the tests.. if you dont have to take this class i wouldnt
Okay so here's the thing. I took this class as an elective my senior year. Everyone was like "ohh its so easy" Yeah well it wasn't. I studied more for his exams than I have ever studied in my entire life, and would still fail. I went to class every day and took notes and the exams are harder than the LSATs. S/O to mythology for bringing down my GPA
The most passionate professor at FSU. He cares so much about mythology and it shows. No hw besides reading. 10 really easy in-class assignments that count as attendance. Tests are all memorization of names and events in mythology.
Dr. Branscome is extremely passionate in what he teaches he truly knows so much. If you don't already know/ love somewhat this material it'll be very difficult for you to pass. The class was insanely hard bc you have to do so much memorization for EVERY single test. However, he is super caring and he is always willing to help you, he's amazing!
Dr. Branscome is a nice professor who wants you to pass. He is there to help you. In this class, if you study a decent amount for the tests and do well on the papers it's a pretty easy A. You have to go to class because he assigns mandatory in class assignments that count for your grade. You can miss 3 of these without hurting your grade.
Took this remotely Summer C. Because of the short semester, the amount of reading for this class was way too much. The class was only based on discussions, quizzes, and two essays, though so I got away with skimming/only watching lectures/reading summaries. The grading was lenient too. Branscome would be great if you're interested in the myths.
Great professor
Professor Branscome is by far the best professor I''ve ever had. You can tell he loves what he does and he cares about his students. He makes a subject that I normally find boring fun and easy to learn. If you can find a way to fit his call into your schedule, do it.
Great professor, he clearly cares about his students and was very accommodating during the pandemic. As long as you take notes following the lecture outlines, and write a decent paper you'll do great! Exams are multiple-choice and short answer on the readings.
Such a good professor!! He is so sweet and really wants you to pass his class, he is also very accommodating especially since we are in a pandemic.
Dr. Branscome genuinely loves what he teaches and really projects his passion into lectures and makes them enjoyable and easy to understand. All around great man
Well respected professor (we loved him). Highly recommend. Material wasn't the most interesting but wasn't the worst. TA's took forever to grade things. We did work in August and didn't get the grades back till the end of the semester in December after finals. Course fulfilled more than one requirement for me. I would take him again.
There is A LOT of readings that is assigned in this class and in order get a solid A they are essential to read. However, I never read a single assigned reading the entire semester and was able to get a B. Only thing is the professor and TAs take forever to grade the tests, so I was nervous I was going to fail all semester.
Not very difficult, you don't HAVE to show up to class but you should because a lot of the lecture outlines leave out important info that's on exams. You should also read the myths, but you can get away with it. Really great professor that cares a lot about his students.
He gave very interesting lectures and provided helpful study guides. You didnt have to show up for class and could watch the lectures later if you needed to. The writing assignment was also fun. Overall, he is a very nice guy and you can tell that he is passionate about what he teaches. Definitely, would recommend!
Dr. Branscome is one of my fav professors. He reminds me of Hank Green in the way he lectures. He is VERY passionate about what he teaches and its clear in the way he teaches that he loves what he's talking about. Provides lecture outlines and records lectures so if you miss a class you'll be fine. Made me love mythology more than I already did.
Took him online during covid. Graded on very simple lecture quizes, 3 papers (one is revised) & 6 exams, one was extra credit. Sounds like a lot but it helps boost your grade and they aren't difficult if you print the lecture outlines and take good notes. Branscome is a WONDERFUL professor. Cares a lot and makes subject matter interesting. LOVE HIM
David is the sweetest professor ever! I went to all of his zoom lectures and enjoyed all of them. I definitely recommend going to class so you know the answers to the lecture quizzes. I would cram read and use the lecture outlines to prep for the exams. If you put in some effort into the class you should do well!
I absolutely adored Professor Branscome. He's very educated and teaches awesome lectures about ancient history and mythology. I always loved learning the stories he taught us and I thought his assignments were pretty interesting and fulfilling. If you're a mythology nerd, definitely take his course, it's totally worth it!
