The only grades in the class are quizzes, short stories, and attendance. His class is very easy. He tells you what will be on the quizzes and the stories are quick and easy to write.
He was an easy teacher. He grades on attendance, quizzes, and essays. His essays are simple, just write a story. If I could take him again, I would. His stories are funny and he has a great time doing what he does. He makes that class very interesting and he even goes to the point of telling you what to study on each test. Take him. He's Easy
He kept telling us to cover up stuff in the text with post-it notes with what he thought. I ended up with a lot of post-it notes. Why doesn't he write a book? He was not as easy as some raters said, but fair and never boring.
i absolutely loved dr. broad! his tests are easy if you study a little...he was always so nice!! definitely take him if you have the opportunity!
Prof dave is an amazing teacher with an amazing attitude. he really gets into his teaching, but also makes it fun and easy to learn. the quizzes are fairly easy if you actually study! Take him!
Took an ecore class with him and I really enjoyed it, there were quizzes, 4 papers and a midterm and final, I would recommend him to others
He is FABULOUS!! ask him about office space! take him any chance you get! :)
Prof. Dave is amazinG! ask him about office space! you'll get a kick out of it! if you ever get the opportunity to take him...do it!
Prof Dave is AMAZING!!! I had him as an 8:00 class and he was so well worth it! Take him if you get the chance. He is funny and keeps you interested. He is not demanding in his assignments and he is so nice and helpful! Quizzes are fill in the blank, but if you listen in class and look over your notes it is easy.
He has a great personality, but is a little hard of hearing. His quizzes are not hard, but he does throw one or two curve balls in each one to kind of throw you off. Very nice man and the class is an easy A as long as you pay attention and study for the quizzes.
excellent resource, and very helpful... talk to him and he'll listen, he s a good friend to have at NGCSU!!
thought provoking as well as funny, he can really be a useful tool when attempting to navigate through the tedious red tape of institutions, really hes an interesting guy, he finished second in a 100 mile foot race come on thats SICK!
Make SURE you study & then you'll be fine. Great guy.
He's the cutest little guy. Take notes, pay attention, learn all about the anus, you'll be fine.
oh prof dave! what is there to say? he is awesome! he is definitely a rambler and sometimes class lectures dont make sense but he is very enjoyable. his quizzes are straight from vocab and big topics in lecture. tests are STRAIGHT from quizzes. he repeats things ALOT when he wants you to know them. very easy class.
He's a character thats for sure... His lectures are sometimes interesting but for the most part they are too long and drawn out over one topic. STUDY what he SAYS not whats in the book. He uses his wording for quizes and the Final is literally a combination of questions from old quizes (which he lets you keep)
PURE AWESOMENESS...btw...Here's the Chili pepper I promised ya!
Figured you'd like 2 chili peppers in a row! getting better with age
Prof. Dave is a great teacher. He's humorous, well-learned in several subjects, and insightful. The quizzes are fill-in-the-blank, but they come directly from the lectures. The midterm and final exam were questions straight from the quizzes. I finished my final in 15 minutes and managed an A in the class.
awesome professor. loved having him. easy to talk to and very helpful. I'd highly suggest him.
Here's another chili pepper for you!
Excellent, interesting teacher and a sweet person. Make sure to go to classes and listen to everything he says, even his goofy stories.
Made a confusing academic discipline much more confusing. His quizzes and tests always have a large share of unclear questions not in the reading material or lecture.
Prof. Dave is a great teacher!! He's very knowledgeable on the topic and is an engaging teacher with his methods. Attendance isn't mandatory, but important since much of what we learn comes from lecture.
I can't believe I didn't take Prof Dave until my senior year! Love his class! I am excited to take what I learned in his ethnography class and carry it into grad school and beyond. Read the texts, come to class, he will help you get a great grade and love sociology!
You've GOT to attend class if you want a good grade, because his quizzes are based on HIS words, not the book's. Gives no extra credit, dont buy the book, he's not helpful at all, just tells you stuff you already know. Plus, he goes off on TONS of tangents.
Love Prof Dave! His class was very fun.
All you have to do is show up and pay attention, and this class is am easy A! All we had to do is take quizzes, final and write a 500 word paper. Piece of cake!!
He is a great instructor and he keeps class interesting, but his explanations can be a bit strange sometimes. Overall, great.
He really is a good teacher and a nice man. I liked him because he taught you things that will benefit you in real life as opposed to strictly text- related stuffs. My biggest problem with him was his exceedingly long stories and students not knowing exactly what to expect for the quizzes. However, overall, I would highly recommend him!
Good professor. Knows his sociology and keeps thing entertaining. Uses fun references to teach what could be a boring subject. He could be a little more accurate with his historical facts, but then again, it is a Sociology class, so the information he teaches on that subject is always accurate.
Awesome awesome professor.Possibly the most interesting character I've ever met. Extremely intelligent, humble, genuine, and just all around awesome teacher. If you are sociology major, I suggest taking at least a couple of his classes, especially intro if you haven't taken it yet. By far the best sociology professor at NGCSU.
Awesome
Good teacher, he makes it fun to learn about. After this class i switch my minor to sociology so he made it very interesting to me. I would take another class by him.
Prof. Dave is definitely a colorful character with lots of experience under his belt. He's a little hard of hearing, so be prepared to repeat yourself. He also tends to get a little off topic at times, but it makes for great discussions! He definitely makes the boring subjects more interesting. I've taken 2 of his classes so far.
awesome knowledge a no. 1 professor.
Speaking for his character I can say he is a nice guy who knows his stuff and means well. He's a terrible teacher though in my opinion. His lectures are so boring I cant stay awake even while drinking a double espresso. The book is basically useless for his quizzes because almost all the question come from his lecture. No visual aids just his voice
Great guy who can have very interesting lectures at times. I read all these great reviews, but it looks like he is getting annoyed with teaching the same class over and over again, the years are taking it's toll. At times can be very rude and on the verge of disrespectful. Won't get to know his students at all, true college course.
He was a good teacher, he does not allow technology use, including phones and computers, and if you are caught talking or on the phone you will be asked to leave. Other than that, he is a really good and understanding teacher. Be careful if you get people to sign you in though, if he catches you, he gets really mad.
So Prof Dave as everyone calls him is a good professor, knows his stuff. However, he is very old school. So he simply just lectures the whole time. No power points or visuals to follow along with. Tests are on ANYTHING he mentions, not just big ideas. No multiple choice on tests, short answer or essay. Good info, just boring to listen to.
A large amount of the information was incorrect. He made generalised statements that were based on opinion and/or were just false information as if it were fact. He would change the definitions of terms because he didn't like them. He tells a fair amount of personal stories as well. Can be funny but would not recommend.
He was one of the best professors that I have ever taken at North Georgia! I highly recommend taking his class!
Prof Dave is a nice guy, however how he structured his class drove me crazy. NO technology, just straight lecture - very old school. Be prepared to take thorough notes, he quizzes with his OWN words. The only grades are fill in the blank quizzes, with 90% coming from his lecture and 10% of the questions from the book. Not hard, but work needed.
I really enjoyed Prof Dave's class, he was very fair in his grading and was incredibly engaging during lectures. It is an independent class though, he gives a general outline of what he expects from each subject, but as long as you work hard you will get a good grade!
It's an easy class- show up, take notes, and study for the quizzes. He doesn't lecture off the book very much. Look to quizlet for help on the quizzes.
Prof Dave was a great choice for an intro class. His tests are fill-in-the-blank, but if you study they are easy to pass. Attendance counts as participation points. You never get out of class early, but he knows what he is talking about. He tells us stories of his life as examples and it is really interesting.
Prof Dave is very passionate about Sociology. He loves what he does so that is a plus when it comes to the course. There are seven quizzes and a final so you need to do good on those in order to pass the class. There are no extra credit opportunities so do your best on all the quizzes. If you study hard you will succeed in this class.
He takes attendance every day by setting sheets out for you to initial but if you arrive to class late you won't be able to sign in so its as if you missed a lecture and then you have to write an essay to get the credit back.
Some students might find his lectures boring, but with 40-something years of teaching under his belt, he is really very knowledgeable about sociology and about life in general. He is as equally brilliant, as he is eccentric. This was a no-tech class, with only a few graded assignments.
I think he is cool as a person, but his class is absolutely terrible. I was told not to take him for this course but I did anyways.. DO NOT take this class. He doesn't use power points nor do we have quizzes or homework. You don't get to prepare for the test in anyway, he just tells you to read the book. Very old school and super difficult.
This is the kind of professor that will stop class to call you out for pulling up a word list on your phone but doesn't mind people sleeping, people on fb on laptops, disruptive talking or students that intentionally try to de-rail the class conversation. There is no power points but it is an easy A if you study a little and read.
The content of the class is interesting but his lectures are very boring. The class consists of several quizzes probably every other week. They're easy if you pay attention to his lecture and read the textbook. Also, if you miss a class he asks that you write an essay on what you missed to reclaim the "participation point".
WORST. TEACHER. EVER!!!! Do NOT take him for Sociology 1101 trust me. Total of 7 grades :6 quizzes & a final. The quizzes are difficult. jumps all over the place during lecture & is very hard to follow. Has a sign in sheet & if you are not there at 8:00 sharp you do not receive attendance credit. If you want credit you must write 250 word essay.
want an A in sociology? don't take him. setting yourself up for failure. Doesn't seem like he cares about teaching anymore. Comes to lecture with notecard. Doesn't have powerpoint, use D2L, and even critics the book & adds his own ideas. worst class i've ever taken. attendance is mandatory and if you don't sign in on the dot- don't get credit.
No powerpoints just him lecturing and have copy what he says. The little details matter on the fill in the blank quizzes (6). Let you skip the final if you have an A. Stay off your phone or else he will kick you out of the class
I found his lectures dry at times but overall I liked them. I had an 8am which was hard but make sure you have plenty of coffee. He's pretty chill unless he finds you on your phone. There are only 6 quizzes and a final. Make sure you take good notes (the examples he uses to explain things.) If you pay attention and use quizlet you should get an A
Personally, I always enjoyed attending Prof. Daves class. I thought he was very funny and his class interested me a lot. I found myself often referring to things he taught. The tests are manageable as well. If youre good at taking notes, this class will be good for you.
The big downside to Broad's class was that we only had two assignments which were a test and a presentation. So if you fail one of the assignments, you have to work really hard in order to pass the class. Luckily, he grades pretty easy as long as you talk about stuff he likes and show up to class.
I wouldn't say that he is an awful professor, but know what you're getting into. Read the text because questions come from the book. If you can handle his class, his lectures are interesting and not a bad class if you can handle him.
Great professor! This was a first session summer semester- we had one book to read, 4 essays based off that book, and an in-person final exam. He always gave lots of feedback (and quickly!). This was an online class but I would really love to take a class with him in-person. Hes very funny and very chill. A total sociologist at heart.
Tbh I had no idea what was going on in class half of the time but I managed to get an A because I spent a lot of time working on my presentation, paper and test (which are 3 of the 4 grades). I also attended every class but one which also helped my grade! Prof Dave was very sweet and wise.
He does not use D2L so you really need to go to class to know when quizzes are and he doesn't focus on the textbook for what goes on the quizzes he usually quotes himself. He does a great job of applying content to his own life which keeps the lectures engaging. Use quizlet and take detailed notes. You will get the hang of his class after 1st quiz.
Prof Dave is so sweet and understanding. His lectures are amazing and I am sad that corona has limited my access to them. Very insightful. My favorite prof.
This was my first class back in college after 20 something years. It was a great class and fun! Prof Dave gives excellent feedback and is honest. He gets you to think outside of your box. Very highly recommend this class with him. You won't regret it!
Such an amazing class and highly recommend taking it!! Prof Dave such a nice and fun guy; the feedback he gave was always honest and clear. The class was so much more interesting than I thought! The textbook was free as well and there were no lectures, just reading the text.
This online class consisted of 11 papers. There were no tests or quizzes. He was a very easy grader. My grade was 99.5. The book is so hard to read. The teacher is super easy though!
Professor Broad is one of the best professors ever! He is really easy to work with, and he understands that college students have lives outside of school. He will work with you to get an A in the class. In the online class, you have to read the textbook and complete weekly assignments. He is quick to email you back if you have any questions.
We had a weekly assignment that was mostly based off the book! You made some of your own inferences and he even online you can tell he genuinely loved what he did. 10/10 would recommend, one of the first classes I ever took in college and it gave me the confidence to go on! He had great feedback and the work was easy if you just read the book.
He is one of the best professors I have ever had. I really enjoy his feedback that he gives. Make sure to read his directions carefully and the rest will be a breeze. He really shows interest in this study and his responses also reflect that. TRY TO GET HIM!! :)
You wont be using a textbook but will be using an online book. He is easy to reach out to. Enjoyed his class and learned so much. Leaves great feedback.
Prof Dave is a great teacher that provides a lot of useful feedback and encouragement. He's funny, down-to-earth, and all of his classwork is clear and consistent. For this online class, it was weekly discussions and a final paper at the end, but no tests or quizzes, which made it a lot less stressful!
My favorite professor honestly. His class is very simple and easy to get through as long as you read the textbook. His assignments are very straightforward and I often look forward to his feedback, he replies to each student individually and it feels like he cares a lot for what his students think and have to say.
Professor Broad was a really helpful professor. The entire class is just papers. No tests or finals. So if you do better at writing than being given a quiz I would recommend taking this class. He grades fairly and gives really insightful feedback.
I highly recommend taking his class. I took it online and there were 8 short essays due every Monday and that was it. Extremely easy grader.
Easiest class of my life. 250-350 word essay due approx. every 2 weeks. You get a 100% on the essay if you just turn it in. The textbook isn't mandatory, but if you can, it's probably best to get it. If you turn in an essay and have no idea what you're talking about he will give you a 90%. He doesn't give less than an A.
One assignment each week, no tests, quizzes, or final. Such a sweet professor. Do your work and put your personality into it and you'll pass 100%
Took him for an online sociology class. It was very clear, and the assignments weren't difficult. He had us read two chapters and write a few paragraphs about questions he asked each week. He responded quickly and gave good feedback. He seemed like a nice guy and his class wasn't overwhelming which was really nice
Such an easy class. One essay per week which is only 250 words. Just put in the work and you will get a 100. No quizzes or exams.
Absolutely loved this professor. We only had 1 assignment every week that was basically vocabulary. No tests or quizzes. Very easy class and he was very nice and always answered my emails. 100% recommend this class!
I took an online class that lasted about a month for the summer and it was one of the easiest courses I have ever taken! There was about 2 VERY short writing assignments each week with specific prompts. As long as you follow the prompts you will receive a 100. He is also a very fast grader and gave feedback on every assignment!
RIP to this amazing professor, we lost a good one way too soon. He was a great guy who loved his students and what he did, he will forever be remembered by the University of North Georgia. :(
Passed away mid-semester but he was a great teacher who cared very much about his students and provided helpful and funny feedback on assignments submitted
I would give anything to take another class of his. Rest in peace, Prof Dave. May your legacy carry on throughout UNG. I had a great time with you while it lasted, and will continue to implement your teachings throughout my career. I'll see you in the next life, professor.
I only had Prof Dave for the first half of the semester, as he passed away. The class content was interesting, and he always gave the funniest feedback. I also really appreciated the way he set the assignments up. He always encouraged relating content to personal experiences so we could better understand and remember it. Rest in peace, Prof Dave.
