I thought that he was a great guy, but his tests were lame. Some people like me are not music majors, so it was hard to understand some of the music terminology. I studied a lot for the tests, but he tried to trick you, making his study guids very vague. Some say this class is easy, but its not.

Brown will be subbing for all of Harkers sections this year. Great guy-good classes that I found to be very enjoyable. If you miss out, it's in the book, but it is always easier to just go. Study for his tests and know the songs, and you'll be fine. I'll probably be getting a B, but it's worth it for such a pleasant class at the end of the day.

Bro. Brown is a pretty good teacher for Music 101. He drops your lowest test grade, so you may end up not having to take the final. He doesn't post his powerpoints, but does make a study sheet for each test, so if you have friends to take notes for you, going to class isn't that important.

Prof. Brown is super nice and helpful. It's a pretty uninteresting topic a lot of the time so lectures were a little rough but he tries to make it interesting and engaging. TA test reviews help a ton, it's almost exactly what is on the exam. No homework except for studying. Know the music pieces for the tests! One of the easier GE classes.

Music 101 is a great GE. Brother Brown is a pretty good teacher but sometimes it gets kind of boring. The tests are extensive but as long as you cram the night before you'll be fine. Attendance is not at all mandatory. He posts a study guide for each test a week before and as you study that you'll be fine. Overall, this was a pretty good class.

This is a great class and professor for the music GE. There is no homework. Grades are based off of 1 syllabus quiz, 5 tests, and attending concerts. He gives a study guide for each test, so attendance is not necessary as long as you fill out the study guide and know the music pieces for the tests. The class was a breeze.

Super nice guy! Loves music, is talented and a great professor. I liked him because he is just a nice guy that loves music and is a fair tester/grader. If you study and memorize the music passages you will get an A!! It was a nice break from the stress of all the other classes at BYU.

Easy class for an arts credit. You have 4 exams and a final, all of which have a study guide that is pretty thorough so there's no surprises. You can either go to class, or just read the book, but both aren't necessary. The only assignment are the concert reports--you have to attend 8, or 4-double credit ones. Easy A.

Brother Brown is the best! He's one of the funniest and kindest professors I've ever had. Tests are a piece of cake if you just go to lecture, and everything you need to know is on the study guides and listening guides. Don't bother buying the book. Go to class and make a Spotify playlist for each test and you'll easily get an A.

Really good for a GE. Going to class and studying for a few hours will be enough to get an A. If you listen to the music for the test a couple weeks before the test you will do better, but it is totally possible to cram the night before and still easily get an A. The tests are not tricky either!

I'd highly recommend this class as a GE. It's really fascinating, and I didn't realize how much I like Baroque and Classical music until I took the class. Dr. Brown's lectures are interesting and funny, and he puts A LOT of music into his slides to listen to as he goes along. Tests consist of listening to excerpts of music and answering questions.

Professor Brown has a very monotone voice that puts almost half the class to sleep. He is caring, but his lectures are so dry. This is an easy A if you just go to the reviews and memorize the songs. Although it's boring, it's an easy GE credit!

This class is great as a GE! Just make a playlist with all the songs and use the given study guides and you'll do good on the tests. Professor Brown's lectures are entertaining and he provides lots of musical examples and pictures to go along with the slides. This class definitely heightened my appreciation for classical music, who would've thought

I only ever went to this class on the exam review days right before each test and did well each time. Easy class, great for a GE, just study a lot before each test with the listening guides and study guides he gives you on learning suite and you'll be fine.

Brother Brown is a great professor. Music 101 was fun and way easy. The only things that counted towards the final grade were five tests and one assignment due at the end of semester. All you have to do to get A's on the test is go to the review session the day before the test and do the listening guides in the textbook.

The only time I did anything for this class was in the days before each test (there are a lot of them- 5), but those few days were rough. The test is pure memorization& the amount of music to listen to can be a bit overwhelming. I'm sure it'd be better if you planned ahead and listened to the music all semester, but I was just dumb and didn't lol

Surprisingly kind of hard. I skipped class half the time so maybe it's my fault but I definitely had to study quite a bit before the tests. There is a TON of memorization for tests. Besides that though I never did anything besides go to concerts for the concert reports.

Easy general. Concert reports are a pain, but easy. DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK. I went to about half the lectures, but I always went to the test review, and it saved me! Start listening to the songs for the tests earlier than later. Dr. Brown is such a kind man!

Attendance isn't mandatory, but it really helps to go. There are 5 tests, but you are given study guides that help SO much. You have to attend 8 concerts, but there are tons of free ones, so you don't have to worry about spending $$. Go to the class review sessions before each test. Memorize everything from your study guide, and you'll be good.

My fav class all semester, I feel so cultured, he's so funny. If you go to class, listen to the music, and study a bit (honestly 2hrs tops) this class is a breeze. 5 tests, which are a lot but the test reviews and study guides help a ton, I thought the tests were easy. 8 concert reports, get them done early, there are tons of free ones on campus.
