Boring, but EASY to pass.
He was so concerned with our grades and always made the extra effort to help us out. My mom thinks he is so hot.
Yeah....he's cool, very helpful, makes you wonder alot. He likes to change the stlye of music sometimes, and screws everyone up. However, his music class is worth it.
After being a music student with Dr. Brubeck for 2 years, it was made apparant to me that he will purposely sign music students up for classes they do not need in order to retain the students in his music program longer. Beware of that. Otherwise, he was an ok guy.
Word! If it wasn't for someone who opened my mind I would have never graduated from the MDC music program! There are still people there who have been there for 6 years! Come on, it's all good but it's a community college for godssake! We need to move on! Beware of being signed up for concert band!
What a stud. The man is so passionate about what he does. He is a great band director and an awesome theory teacher. I had him for a couple years and I never had any problems with him. He is really sweet and has a sexy viking look to him.
total pain in the butt not very nice or friendly
boring !!
I took a bunch of classes with this guy. He tries to give the impression that he cares for people and their grades, but he really is just interested in signing up music majors and non-music majors alike for a bunch of extra classes that they don't really need. He wants it to look good on paper for himself that he has a big student body. And as for striving for perfection, he's only strict and has high expectations for his students because he wants it to reflect back to him if a student achieves elsewhere
The worst teacher I ever had.
This guy needs a break. He is on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
This guys is an ****. Please, save your money and time. Hes about the weirdest soul in mdc. Dont even bother.
I think he is a great professor and evenhough i dont like jazz i got an A.
If jazz was a person he wuld f*** it. He is a freak about jazz.. wen he plays somethin' for the class he puts his head down and goes into a trance. If u interupt or make a sound while music is playing BE PREPARED!! either ur listening to jazz or he's using his mouth to make the beats. bottom line, dont take the class, unless u REALLY love jazz.
okay compared to what the other comments say.. he isn't all that bad. He does love Jazz but its his job.. He explains not 100% very well but reading the book will help, and if you have questions he is always willing to help stay after class, so he is willing to help if you have problems. But study hard. his test isn't 100% hard either if you study
Professor Brubecks theory class is only as difficult as you let it be. He sets a high standard and expects your very best. His favorite saying is, "success today will ensure your success tomorrow." Study hard, come prepared to class, and you won't have any problems.
ewwww he is a bad teacherrrrr so boringggg
he is a great teacher..he is hard, he makes u put lots of effort, lots of hw, quiz evryday but u will learn the stuff, the quizzes...take him if u really want to learn the stuff it will pay off if music is your major!
i dont like him at all. he was very hard, quizes every class most ofthem pop quizzes, and i didnt get at all what he would teach, i had to drop the class within like 1 month. he was sometimes nice but i wouldnt recomend him uncless your willing to study and put 100% of your effort towards the class.
Good Professor. If you love Jazz or ever wanted to have a better understanding of its origins then this class is for you. He treats you like an adult, after all this is a college class, not high school. Taking good notes and paying attention is class is key to getting a good grade. Not to mention he's a distant relative to the great Dave Brubeck
WORSE TEACHER EVER !!!!!!!!
He is a nice person, but as a teacher is no so clear, his tone of voice varies so much that sometimes you just do not understand what he is saying, a lot of quizes but he makes you effort a lot, which is good. He is a good teacher but he is very strict. You lern a LOT!
Excellent teacher. If you're looking to learn, he is te right one. If you're looking for an easy class don't take him.
Excellent professor! Makes subject matter interesting. Excellent teaching method - live examples, use of videos and music and outlines the class on the board for easy following. Pushes his students to be creative. Yes, lots of quizzes but they are very helpful. Excellent class and professor!
This teacher knows his subject. He is very creative with his assignments, and yes he does give quizzes everyday, but almost everyone is guaranteed to get an A if you payed even a little attention at all. Lots of videos and live music. He is super nice and grades very fairly. Attendance is mandatory seeing as there is a quiz most of the time.
Excellent educator. He wants you to succeed. If you're having a hard time, you're doing something wrong.
he seems strict at first but this guy will help you if YOU show the interest. he is a busy man, so he has little time to help after class but he will get out of his way to make sure you understand the theory. i got an -A, do what he says to do, not difficult if you follow through. i really recommend him if you want to get this theory down. no BS
I thought he was going to be mean at first, but he ended up being one of my favorite professors. He truly loves what he does and wants us all to appreciate it. He taught us a lot in those four months and made sure we understood.
What a waste of time. You can tell this is a wannabe musician. Gets mad when students ask questions and doesnt know how to answer. Fakes his way thorough course lessons. Pick someone in the jazz department if you want a competent teacher. I am currently in his class?booooooooooring!!
good teacher, like any other class, you should study.
This a class for student who really want to drill the theory and ear training. If your a stupid dump ass that doesn't care about music don't take it!. He is very discipline in his class.
DR BRUBECK IS ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS I'VE EVER HAD, EASY NOT!!! BUT MUSIC IS NOT ABOUT GRADES IS ABOUT LEARNING!!! AND WITH HIS CLASS YOU WILL LEARN, DON'T MISS A DAY, TAKE ALL THE NOTES!!! EVERY LESSON IS IMPORTANT!!!! IF YOU ARE A MUSIC MAJOR HI IS THE ONE!!!! STUDY!!! AND YOU WILL GET "A" BE A GOOD MUSICIAN NOT A LOUSY ONE. REST ARE EXCUSES
Excellent professor! everyone told me he was hard! In fact, you need to work a lot but at the end you learn so much! I'm really grateful that I had him, he taught me a lot! Every single example or method he uses makes clear the subject! Also, HE KNOWS EVERYTHING about music. He looks kind of angry but he's cool if you're quiet and do your work!
He knows what he teaches but doesn't explain it. He stands in the way when writing notes and then erases them before you get a chance to write them down. Class work load is ridiculous. He caused at least 2/3 of the class to fail when he missed the last 2 weeks and left no substitute to explain the material which made up 1/2 of the final. Waste of $
he's ok but likes to give out "pop quizzes" once in a while on things that you haven't really discussed in class. he's not good with notes, he writes all over the board and just talks and talks
Best professor ever!!, what the majority of comments are saying are true. yeah he's not the easiest teacher in the world and you have to do alot of lab stuff. But I learned soo much, and he makes the class incredibly interesting.
Not an easy A. But if you want to learn, he's your guy. Gives pop-quizzes that are pretty easy if you've payed attention in class. RECOMMENDED!
TAKE THIS only if you are serious about your music major. He calls this class the dreamkiller because it really seperates the determined musicians from the lazy ones. Try your hardest to never miss a class and give your full attention to him and you'll learn so much about music theory and get at least a decent grade.
My favorite teacher so far in Miami Dade. He's sweet and passionate about music and if ur a good student and take good notes you'll be fine.
If you have plenty of time and will use most of your time studying for this specific class then you should be fine. HOWEVER, IF you do not have time DO NOT take this course with this professor. A class with this teacher requires a lot of time. Cool guy. Don't be late or absent.
Dr. Brubeck was an amazing pre-theory teacher and if it wasn't for him I wouldn't know how to read bass clef like I do. If you really want to learn your basic theory TAKE IT HIM!!!!!
Don't take him if you have a full time job (30 hours or more/unless this is your only class) gives a lot of h.w. and a lengthy packet, wants you to do the packets and you'll learn from there. I don't even know how I passed.
Good person, HORRIBLE teacher. I'm sorry, didn't want to be harsh, but that's my truth. If u have a full time job DO NOT TAKE HIM, the work load with him is just ridiculous. If english is not your first language you are going to have a really hard time too. He goes over SO MANY THINGS in class you'll feel overwhelmed. His class is mostly confusing
If you view your college education from the perspective that you are a customer who is purchasing knowledge, than this man is an amazing deal. If you are going for an easy A with little effort, look elsewhere. Expect lots of work. Be prepared for a challenge. When it's said and done, you'll be better off than your peers.
Amazing professor! Very helpful if you put in your effort. He is kind and an amazing professor. If you give him respect, he'll definetely respect you. One of my favorite professors!
He doesn't know how to teach beginners. He expects his students to already know the material. This is not the teacher for you if you haven't already taken theory, though it says fundamentals of theory. Good person, but horrible teacher... sorry Brubeck
Annoying. OCD about work. Gives F''s if the answers aren''t in his ridiculous specific way despite them being right. At least he knows what he''s teaching though he doesn''t teach it well. Speaks quickly and rambles occasionally. Work load is also quite ridiculous leaving little time for work or anything else.
Very passionate teacher about music. He is very strict and gives a lot of quizzes, but his tests are a walk in the park. If you just deal with his attitude its an easy A.
Professor Brubeck is an AMAZING professor! Don't listen to the haters. He's tough, I'm not gonna lie, and if your expecting an easy breezy class, don't count on it. If you really put the effort into it, you'll find that you'll learn more than you thought you would! He is a very respectful, encouraging man and I would DEFINITELY recommend him!
.Easy class if you pay attention and even more if you are interested about classic music, However this professor has a particular attitude that you will have to be able to deal with. If you ask about your grades he will get angry. Also, dont buy the book, he likes the things the way he explains it
Professor Brubeck is an outstanding professor! It's great to have someone as passionate as he is about music teaching the class. Thanks to his passion the class is more enjoyable and I really liked his no technology use during class. I have attention problems, so without electronics distracting me, I was able to really enjoy all the music he played
Dr. Brubeck seems like a good person, but he isn't a very good professor. The class always felt like everything was in the air and we usually had no idea what was going on. There was never any clarity throughout the semester. His "notes" were a bunch of undecipherable nonsense. He will also make you work for each grade, so don't turn in junk.
Great teacher that doesn't accept mediocrity and truly wants you to succeed. If you want to get a superb foundation for your music career, and can't stand stupid students that ask dumb questions, this is who you should take it with.. Cuz he has no patience for stupid questions.
Very disorganized, confuses his two classes and doesn't keep a record of what he does on each one of them. No notes, contradicts his own requests. Does not clarify his requirements, no syllabus, no due dates, does not have a good attitude in class. Requested a Textbook he never uses.
Excellent professor, his passion for music and teaching can be felt. He makes complex things seem very simple even if you do not have a music background. The class is very engaging and there is much to learn from professor Brubeck if you pay attention to his lecture.
Very engaging! I loved the ballets and operas we watched. It was a pleasure to take the class.
If you'd like the best foundation for music theory, Dr. Brubeck is the way to go. Highly recommend for Music majors and people who will put the time. Students who like to complain about lack of time should not take it. If you want the grade MAKE the time to study, he is very receptive when asked for help and his love for music is undeniable.
I AM DEDICATING MORE HOURS TO THIS CLASS THAN I DID IN CALCULUS 2 TO GET A B GRADE. Copious reading and writing (sentence for every paragraph in the book, seriously). No clear syllabus, everything is in the air. Conveniently gives quizzes in the first 5 min while people are late so he can give Fs. Assumes undying dedication and passion to music.
I enjoyed being in this class and having walked out with way more knowledge then I walked in with. Very well mannered and respectful. Truly enjoys his job. Loved this class
I walked into this class knowing 0 things about music, and I am leaving with so much knowledge. He's tough but smart and just over all incredibly good at teaching. He loves his job and cares for his students, he really knows what he's teaching. It's not an easy A class, you must work for it, as long as you study and pay attention you will pass.
I had Dr Brubeck for pre-theory and took me to that next level. Very little hw but requires time in the lab (which is what makes you better). The best teaching method, knowledgeable, gives great advice, and willing to help. If you don't slack off and love your career in music, he is a must. if not, check yourself because is not him.
He expects you to memorize way to much . He lectures very heavy. You cant eat in his classes. Class was very boring. He gives multiple quizzes every class for summer term and 3 big tests instead of midterm and final.
He made a class, which is a general requirement, seem as though it was a junior level class; He, unnecessarily, made an easy class tough. He is a great professor but he should not be teaching such a low level class because most students are simply trying to get through a required class.
dysgraphia is certain, quizzes every class, no phones to take picture of board even though class is 50 minutes long, doesn't explain content and rude.
Hes an awesome guy and very caring for his students but not the best teacher, she talks a lot doesnt let you take pictures of anything when hes not talking hes playing music though its a music class but most of the time its literally JUST music. The testing is very messy hand written and sometimes have nothing to do with what he taught sorry
I am really glad I picked Dr. Brubeck. I learned a lot about music and enjoyed being in is his. I truly recommend it if you looking for a class to learn and enjoy
We only used the book twice. He never gave us more than three homework. He really cares about his students not like other teachers. He is really funny and nice, if you ever need to talk to him , he will be there for you. Getting ready for quizzes with him is easy because he prepares you, but you may pay attention. I truly recommend this class.
He really cares about this students. Pay attention and study because there is many information. Easy grades. Really nice teacher.
Professor Brubeck was the most amazing professor I have ever had. He made class fun and was always helping us individually if we needed any one on one help. His lectures are never boring. You go to class and actually enjoy it, which is something I have never been able to say before. I would definitely recommend taking him. You wont regret it!
He's really a great professor. I don't understand why there are so many bad reviews for him as he really tries his best to make sure you pass the class. Lectures are easy to understanding and he drops your lowest quiz grades as there will be many, but if you pay attention to his lectures and show up you should be fine as he is very fair.
Dont take this professor. He is very unorganized, doesnt ever specify when the next quiz is going to be or whats going to be on it. Said we were going to have quiz on one thing and gives it on another. Makes his mind as he goes, rambles a lot. If you miss class with a real excuse he doesnt care, wont let you make it up. Handwriting is a mess.
HORRIBLE STAY AWAY
David is a professor that ive been iffy about. the one thing that really bothered me was that there is a no electronic device of any kind allowed in his classroom; cellphones, fine, laptops, understandable. However, i had a classmate who is blind and he didnt let her use the FingerReader that she had to help her read and take notes. its terrible.
Very disorganized, goes on a lot of tangents, and there are inconsistencies on what he says. Makes up the course structure as he goes. Do not recommend. Also hes pretty cringe...
Worst class Ive ever taken, he doesnt teach. He plays music the whole class and then tests you on nothing. He makes the class super uncomfortable and is super strict about technology. I normally never feel this way about the class but the professor was terrible.
This man is impossible, literally you have to assume whats gonna be on the quizzes and tests, he has bad handwriting and messy in general. If you dont have to take this class, dont. The notes he wrote on the board literally make no sense.
Very unorganized, he didn't set up a good system so he had each student email him each assignment so his email is probably flooded and won't find your assignments. We also never got to see our final grades since he never added them yesterday knowing today his class ended and would be removed from blackboard today. also doesn't reply to emails :)
Extremely unorganized. He constantly lectured about topics that were not related to music. Goes off on many tangents and does not explain assignments very well. Makes you email him every assignment and can get very confusing. Online connection is terrible and glitches the entire class. Would not take again.
Tests are not hard if you study. He's very engaging in class and really care about his students. He doesn't give much homework but make sure you do it on time.
If you need help he wont be there for you. He wont answer your emails. And he wont be in his office if you need assistance.
At times, he will get fed up with the class and become super disrespectful when students are literally trying to answer his answer. If you like knowing your grade, he doesn't post them, he only sends you emails. To get a response from him is a mission and his test are in the most confusing format imaginable. Even with all his random notes :/
Pay lots of attention to class or he will pick on you. Be patient/tolerant of his little outbursts. He expects students to uphold respect and an academic knowledge when participating in class, yet when you demonstrate it he takes it as if he did not expect that of you. Dont take his comments literally or you will definitely get offended.
Honestly just stay away everything has to be handwritten and send through email by sending him a portrait photo including his tests
I took him online and he's not ready for it. He's very unorganized, never answers emails and makes us handwrite all our assignments and email it to him, and every exam is handwritten too, you have to email it to him only giving you a time period of 10 mins max to do it. He's not understanding but is an easy grader. Wouldn't recommend this class.
just do yourself a favor and don't take his humanities class.
Always at least 5 mins late. Everyday he has an technical error from bad WIFI to computer dying. He gets off topic and shows us videos that are irrelevant. He is not understanding and gets attitudes with students. ALL assignments are handwritten and sent in by email for each question, even on the test which is time consuming. Worst Professor EVER.
So I took him for humanities and honestly it was an easy class barely assigns homework but when he does its a lot and it has to be hand written. Tests were very simple and straight forward they were like 5 questions. He's always 5-10 minutes late to class which is very annoying and takes foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr to grade homework.
Right off the bat I knew this was gonna be a tough class and dropped it. He is very lecture-heavy, his presentations are bare-bones, and he requires all of his assignments to be handwritten on a sheet of paper and the photo you send MUST be portrait. Dropped after the second class & couldn't be happier with my choice. Rip to anyone who stayed, tho
you have to hand write everything and he doesn't really give homework but the one time he did he spent most of the semester without a grade I had to drop it cause it was already November and I still didn't have a grade for work he gave in the first 2 weeks. don't take him if you like knowing your grades.
Doesnt care about his students, gives terrible or no feedback. Doenst follow his word. No midterm or final. Hes all over the place. Easy to pass but rude attitude. Says he will give you a lot of homework, barely gives any. Extremely unorganized tests and lectures. Boring. Says we will use the book, only used it for 2 chapters.
The professor was very discouraging and had demeaning comments . I studied hard for his exams. I had much difficulty going by his reviews to study and yet does not go above to help students .
terrible, always gets an attitude and speaks over students. is a mess and his test and quizzes are a joke, he teaches us absolutely nothing and then gives us a test on anything he can pull out his as. do yourself a favor and dont sign up for his class.
I took this class online, i love the guy himself however, it feels unorganized and i know he's trying but my education matters more than feelings. The guy is super great but the course is not worth the struggle, truly. I have no idea what's going on and i have 5 classes left. not heavy on HW but u will not understand anything going on.
His "cheating" policies create a hostile environment for all of his students. The format/method/style of submission requirements are frustrating and unclear.
The worst professor I've ever had. Took his class online and his method of teaching is counterproductive and nonsensical. His lectures are impossible to follow and he just rambles off topic and has zero resources outside a few shoddy diagrams. His hw is a joke and everything is done through email, including tests. Just a big, messy headache.
His humanities course is a sham, unorganized and unprepared the professor abuses the privilege to show YouTube videos in class. All work must be handwritten, and everything is submitted through email. Then he has the gall to claim that he trades in ideas when, at best, he's a middleman between online videos and old movies, and me.
He is all over the place! I will give him the credit that he does knows what he is talking about but at the same time he jumps from one topic to then a random topic. I wish he has presentations or a guide of what we are learning. He would sometimes make unkind remarks towards students. But I highly recommend to not take his class!
TLDR; I HIGHLY recommend not taking this course. The main issue is the professor, his lectures are a complete mess he will jump from topic to topic. Then watch an hour-long movie and ask specific question about its content. So you're punished for paying during the chaotic parts but you can't justify not paying attention because he might quiz you.
Is all over the place. He over complicates everything more than he should. He will have assignments and quizzes submitted one by one via email, have a ton of issues because (DUH?!) he's having 60+ kids send him quiz questions one by one. Will wait until an assignment is finished to tell you that *blank* should have been included in the homework.
Honestly, just do yourself a favor and don't take his class. Rude attitude. All he does is show us people singing on youtube and just rambles on about nothing. The homework and tests are handwritten and you have to submit everything one by one through EMAIL. Also, takes FOREVER to grade. This class is just a big headache. Don't recommend at all.
Professor Brubeck is unaccommodating to people unfamiliar with material in his class. He's very bad at explaining new concepts, which becomes a big problem for a subject like music theory. He derides anyone who doesn't perform absolutely perfectly. He gives vague, and unclear instructions, but will snap at people for asking clarifying questions.
Don't take this professor he will make your life harder than it should be. There's no real structure to how the class is set up the material he teaches is just arbitrary and futile. He'll base the tests off of irrelevant videos he shares and he'll randomly call on people to send them their notes that isn't even a part of the class grade
Don't choose him or you'll regret it. You've been warned. -Work must be submitted in portrait mode and 1 page per email -Will make you go to a concert -Here and there lectures -He sometimes tells some to submit their notes within a few minutes -Takes forever to grade -Makes you buy a book for just 2 chapters to only use at the end of the term
MDC needs to do better, that's all I have to say.
HORRIBLE!!!!!!
The worst humanities professor in all of MDC.
Extremely horrible. He rambles on about the most random stuff and doesn't even have a clear grade structure. Honestly coming from a straight A student, he's the only professor I have ever taken that has been difficult yet still managed to fail his class. Side note: He will fail you if you don't give him your notes which aren't even part of grades.
Talks a lot. Make sure to take notes, because he gets off topic often.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! His negligence to his non honor students is insane. They way he teaches makes no sense. Absolutely no organization! Can't stay on one topic at a time. You will eventually give up on note taking. ALWAYS 15-20 MIN LATE AND WILL HOLD YOU AFTER CLASS FOR ABOUT THAT TIME! If you have another class or work good luck. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
DO NOT TAKE BRUBECK'S CLASS!!! He is the worst professor, i'm lucky i even passed his class. He is all over the place, disorganized and has no structure. His grading is confusing, he doesn't use canvas everything is by email,& takes forever to respond to emails.Your grade is based off of 4 tests. Its overall a nightmare so dont take this class
Its hard to understand what he's ever saying. He's very hard to keep up with because everything is through email and he sends it in weird format. He's very random to say the least but he seems sweet.
No structure when it comes to teaching. Nothing he says makes a lot of sense. Jumps for topic to topic , very difficult to understand. Ending up dropping his course. Do not recommend to anyone.
This professor was not that bad! Yes, he talks a lot and his classes weren't so structure but he gave us everything we needed to pass the class. He notified us when we would be taking a quiz and provided us with study guides. He's even understanding enough to hand out extra credits. As long as you put in the effort to study, you'll be fine.
Brubeck was a fine professor he is very lenient in how he grades, It is very easy to pass the class. Even though there isn't really a structure to the class he tries to make it as interesting as possible. Ony thing that I don't really like is how he does EVERYTHING over email including grades which can be very confusing at times.
I took this professor in 2022. Difficulty would had been a 2 but it deserves a 4 thanks to the obligation of going to a concert or else, an in person test. You have to take photos in portrait mode on a phone and purchase a ~$100+ book for only 1 chapter almost at the end of the term. very disorganised professor.
you get to learn a lot of things with this professor if you are interested in, just be responsible and keep reading your notes and the material he gives you, most important grades are the 4 tests based in the lectures, easy if you have a functional memory and payed attention in class
Very hard class, you get to study a lot for things that won't be useful for the future whatsoever, this class is essentially Ancient history of the world with bit of music history as well, if you think this class would be easy it will probably be the hardest one among the ones that you are taking, I get an A cause I used to study a lot.
He's very disorganized, giving random papers and videos to study. On test day, you won't know what's covered due to the scattered material. He jumps topics, making you feel lost. He makes the class hard to pass with no electronics, no multiple-choice tests, and random handwritten quizzes. On test days, he's paranoid about cheating.
Professor Brubeck's class is quite challenging, but with consistent effort and using study tools like unstuck AI, you can succeed. The lectures are disorganized, but the material is interesting if you engage with it.
Dr.Brubeck doesn't get the credit he deserves on here, I had a great experience in humanities. TAKE GOOD NOTES, if you want to pass you'll need them, I succeeded by really absorbing and internalizing the material he taught. He's disorganized but if you really pay attention you'll be fine. very old school. Do extra credit! He works with you to pass!
The book he asks for is used for extra credit, easy buy on Amazon for no more than $20. Take all extra credit opportunities. Be prepared to learn a lot and take lots of notes. He works with students to pass the class and is always open to office hours for extra help.
This has to be the worst professor I have ever had in my life. He has no organization so he is teaching whatever comes to his head right in that moment. He has 0 structure not only for himself but his students which makes this class 100 times harder than it needs to be. He will assign hw the night before your class due the next day.
Do not take this profesor at all. For the love of god, just don't. As a student, you should expect an organization in his class. No he's all over the place and is very disorganized. His grading criteria is awful. Does not makes sense and is the worst thing ever. Never uses Canva so you can't stay on top of your grades. Worst thing ever.
Horrible class. Totally disorganized, teaches random stuff, assigns HW last minute, sends wrong or no resources, and emails at midnight. Loses papers, gets grades wrong, won't touch Canvas, and flips out over electronics. Could be easy, but he makes it a mess. Avoid at all costs.
THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. HE IS THE MOST ORGANIZED PERSON IN THE WORLD. SENDS YOU OTHER STUDENTS GRADES AND IS SO UNHELPFUL. IF I COULD GIVE HIM ANYTHING BELOW AN AWFUL RATING, I 100% WOULD.
If you want to maintain a good GPA, it's best not to take him at all.
If you are planning on taking Brubeck's Music theory 1001 class, please make sure you know a lot of things about music theory because he doesn't really teach well and expects you to know it. He tests you on key signatures weekly and he will time you. He's a pretty tough grader on that. Overall, he's a chill, caring, and hilarious professor!
He's not a good professor at all. If you are planning on taking his class with 0 knowing of music theory, then you are screwed. He DOES NOT teach at all and writes things on the board expecting you to know it and do it. I had to teach myself music theory because of that and thankfully Brenda and Professor Thomas helped a lot!
Although he is respectful and clearly cares for the material, he makes the class a whole lot harder it needs to be. He is very disorganized through his lectures (jumping from topic to topic/playing videos out of context), and surprises the class with pop quizzes. There are only a few tests you are graded on (25% each). I wouldn't recommend him.
He's very well informed but he is insanely disorganized, jumping from topic to topic. But he is a super easy grader, he grades different because instead of wrong and right he would grade us on how much we know about someone, a place or an event, you can pass an exam with only one question correct if you know a lot about the topic. gives no homework
Overall, I didn't enjoy his class too much, he would constantly joke and then laugh at himself after every 2 minutes and was sorta unorganized. The positive side to the class was that at least he wasn't a tough grader and cared about you passing the course. 3/5 for me.
Don't take this teacher! There's no textbook or curriculum whatsoever... he just shows Youtube videos and gives quizzes on them, except the quizzes will have things we never learned (he will still grade it). He's also extremely unorganized and WILL lose your homework and tests, and then make it your problem by giving you a poor grade
I don't do rmp but this class was so horrendous I had to say something. Honestly he is a nice man, BUT I have NEVER been so confused about a class in my entire life. The only reason I passed was pure context clues, I felt like I was going in blind every single class. He's very unorganized and a late grader, Upside is he's not a harsh grader at all.
If Rate My Professor would give me a bigger character limit I would write a negative dissertation for this professor. His class is a very frustrating experience. He is the most disorganized professor that I have seen in my life by far. He would lose students quizzes and homework. He is allergic to electronics, thus he never uses Canvas. Avoid him.
He is NOT a good professor at all. I took him in Spring of this year, and everyone I mean everyone failed his class. We all had to retake the class again. He does not teach whatsoever, so I had to teach myself or ask Brenda for help.
One of my first professors and one of my worst. I'll say his heart is in the right place, but he's paranoid and hates tech bc he thinks ppl will steal his ideas. He loses test papers and hardly responds to emails. It's impossible to take notes, but there's few enough topics to where you can just look up an AI summary of the textbook/site and pass.
