If you know what you are doing, or can learn well on your own, with only a little hlep, these classes with him are easy; but if you need someone to hold your hand and walk you through it step by step, take a differen class, and don't minor in el ed math.

Dr. Buhl was a good teacher as long as you didn't need a book to follow along with.

Didn't care for him at first at all. But I had trouble with the class and he was willing to meet with me as much as I wanted so that I understood the material. He is sorta rude and whatnot, but he doesn't take any b.s.

This man is awesome!!! Best class that I have ever had...I love this math teacher...Hes very interested in helping his students!!:)

Dr. Buhl is awesome, he is my ultimate favorite teacher. He likes to talk to the students and is interested in their well-being

sure Buhl can be an a$$ at times. but he is only teaching you that the world isn't always fair or seen through rose colored glasses... I think he just gave the ones that aren't college matteral a wake up call... Buhl.. keep up the good work... He's class is fun.. and I did learn some neat stuff!!!

This course is not hard if you even have the most basic of programming skills. It's even picture driven, come on. This class teaches you some new ideas you can incorporate in your classroom, use it as such.

I do not like math and never do well in it, but I actually really enjoyed this class. Buhl is very creative and always makes class interesting. He really wants you to learn the material; it's not just a job to him. You have to accept his sense of humor though, he means no offense, don't take his jokes personally. My fav. Prof. so far.

I enjoyed his class very much, he made math interesting, and was very fair. If you come to class, study, and participate, you'll do great!

Really enjoyed this class because it was a lot of playing with stuff to see what you could do with it. Nice change of pace from normal math classes.

Difficult class if you don't do the homework

I personally liked this class. His teaching style is kind of hands-off, but in the real world there's not going to be someone there holding your hand the whole way. Great class for independent learners and those not afraid of computers.

Nice guy and can be helpful. It's hard to know what to expect on his test and they can be hard. He cares about his students. Don't feel intimidated by him; he means well. If you are looking for an easy teacher, don't take him.

I agree he's a hands off teacher and that you never know what to expect on a test. But he's a good teacher and if you need help he's pretty good about it. If you like math then you should be fine.

I really enjoyed his class. His teaching style is hands off. His tests were very unpredictable and the grading for the tests were very harsh. If you are looking for an easy grade, stay away. If you are willing to work hard and ask questions in or outside of class, he will do what he can to help. I would recommend him .

I had 103 & 171 with him. Buhl is more difficult in the 103 class, since most of the students are there because they have to be and don't care. Despite what you've heard, he does care about his students. Go to him if you have questions. I know from first hand experience- he'll set up meetings with you. If you're a hard worker, take his class.

took it as an online class and ended up teaching myself. the videos online just confuse me more. however, if you go to him for help he does a good job of making sure your questions are answered.

took this online and he pretty much is just there to put someone in charge, but he's really nice and understanding. I missed a quiz because I didn't notice I had to take it by noon that day and he let me retake it, no questions asked. if you are good at math and don't mind teaching yourself, it's actually not too bad...

I think Dr. Buhl does a nice job of teaching this class. He paces things so that I have time to understand, and he is willing to help when I have a question.

As a graduate of NMU I have had the entire variety of professors. Dr. Buhl is one of the better professors out there. He encourages his students to actually do independent learning (which is the goal of higher education!) He was helpful and fun to interact with. I still keep in touch!

I took this class online. He posts podcasts online for each section. It's a self-paced class for the most part, so you can take the tests before they are due. The assignments are mostly odds, so you can check them yourself. You do have to teach yourself for the most part, but it's not too hard. Can't say much on his personality..haven't talked much

Although I did really bad in his online class, it was through no fault of this professor. He's a decent guy...gave me every opportunity; even extended test time and dates for me. Unfortunately, I am not able to understand the "Language of the Universe"...never could, never will. But thanks for trying Professor Buhl! :)

Dr. Buhl is a very interactive professor that keeps class interesting. He does a lot of activities that pertain to our lives as students.

Dr. Buhl was very helpful. I would take a class of his again. He helped me understand, and as far as a math professor goes, he is a good one!

I've heard some negative things about Dr. Buhl, but I thoroughly enjoyed his class. I ended up with a solid A in the class, while I struggled for a B- in MA150 with a different professor. He is clear cut and to the point. He really likes when students get involved and is funny and personable, but his sarcasms is often mistakenly taken as rudeness.

Don't take Dave if you're looking for a simple lecture/quiz type of teaching. He had a bit of a muddy grading process but ultimately he wants students to care about what they learned. He's a ton of fun and will push you but also be there to help along the way. His teaching was a nice break from the typical college course.

The class I took was entirely project based using geometer's sketchpad. If you got the project done correctly you passed, but he also looks for students that are trying. I got an A on my final project because I asked questions and showed that I cared. Dave is a professor who will still stop and say hi when he sees me because he genuinely cares.

The best mobility instructor ever

Buhl is a funny and easy professor, almost 50% of the grade was homework and it was easy. Tests aren't too bad if you understand the material

At first I hated him because he never explained things clearly. Once he realized we weren't stats geniuses he began working through things with us & helping us out. I like that he makes you reason through things so you learn it on your own & retain it. I wish there was more opportunity for extra credit though, one bad test grade can really hurt.

I normally hate going to math classes but I actually don't mind going to his class. He is funny, however he could come off as uncaring or a jerk if you don't realize it's sarcasm. Overall, nice guy who cares how his students are doing if you put in the effort. His teaching is to the point, although you will have to figure out some stuff on your own
