Burleigh is a nice guy. He's young and very helpful. You gotta know your stuff though. He is always there for help on anything. Overall, I think he is a great guy.
Burliegh is a really good professor. Lab was so alot of fun. Sometimes lecture is a little boring, but he's a good guy.
He is a very nice guy. Great teacher who knows his stuff, and I had him for lab as well. In both classes he tells you exactly what is on the test no loop holes and will help you at any time (gives clues/hints). Sometimes lecture can be boring but overall he is a great guy and I recommend him for anyone who needs Bio I .
nice guy. had him for lecture and lab. u have to take good notes during his lectures. my only problem with his exams was that he asked broad and general questions but was looking for very specific answers. He curved final grades and each exam. bio isnt my thing, and i still got a B+ so i guess hes not bad. grades lab reports like an english prof.
He is the sweetest guy ever!!! I have him for lecture and he is so awesome!!! People keep asking him the same questions over and over again and he just answers them everytime with a smile on his face! adn he came into my lab one time just so he could help one student catch up on her lab because she had missed it! I highly recomment taking him!
very nice, if you are taking bio or bio lab i would take him
He is a great teacher. I really enjoyed his class. He is a nice person and knows what he is talking about. He is very helpful and understanding. I kind of miss his class because I really enjoyed it and I learned a lot.
Please note most positive comments on him are from freshman O&E. He is probably the worst science prof Ive had at stockton in 4.5years. His notes are sporadic gibber-and tests are from the twilight zone. He should not be teaching any upper level molecular material.Stockton should refund all IntCell people, and apoligize to this class of Jun&Seniors.
Total Nightmare-Horrible-Lectures are incomprehensible, notes look like a third grader, he is nice though. However I would not take him for anything again.
try to avoid for upper level bio.. 1.unprepared lectures 2. tests are from left field 3. have to teach yourself...nice guy but better for lower level bio
WORST CLASS EVER..this guy has no clue and its extremly frustrating. You will be sick to your stomach if you take him for any upper level BIO..just dont do it!
Do not take him for anything-You have been warned-Has no natural teaching ability. Confuses the entire class to the point of despair. The school should do something about this mess!!!!
STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLASS IF YOU CLASS 1)HE TEACHES NOTHING 2) YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO TO CLASS I NEVER GO TO CLASS AND I JUST READ THE TEXTBOOK AND I DO OK ON HIS HORRIBLE EXAMS AND QUIZZES THAT HE MAKES UP I LEARN MORE FROM THE TEXTBOOK THEN HIM, HE CAN NOT EXPLAIN NOTHING RIGHT THE CLASS IS JUST HORRIBLE IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE IT THE DON'T!!!!!

This class was the biggest joke I've ever encountered at Stockton. The professor belongs collecting garbage, not teaching.
The tests are completely subjective, in other words, if you are liked-you pass. People with higher grades, got a lower grade on their transcript-go figure. If you take him for anything, you are a fool and deserve to have your money taken.
His lectures are okay, but if you see him in his office he is really helpful. The main problem was students that are not willing to do the work required in an upper level bio, everyone just wanted an easy A. The only thing is he forgets what he tells you not to study, so you just have to study everything, read and study the book and you get an A
Where do I begin. As suggested by some, read all, study all, know all, gets you an easy A. I also know the meaning of life. Go to office brown nose/smoose will also get you the A. Again the suggestion that 30 people wanted an easy A is utterly ridiculous. Grow Up.
Development Biology......he is very helpful but lot's of reading and is not even straight from textbook..you have to do lot searching..but it's easy if are good at biology... 3 test and final and couple article reading...
Burleigh is awesome, and he loves placenta. i took o&e with him. do good on the quizzes, quizzes come straight out of the notes. before takin the exams it helps to read the chapters although majority of the questions come from the notes. i had an A- even thuo i studied the day b4 the exam. dont recomment last minute cramming. helps to start early!
His teaching style may be difficult to follow. He goes through material fairly quick, so keeping up with the text book is a must. He's super nice, though, so any problems he'll definitely try to help you out. Lab with him is the good, definitely one of the most fun labs I've ever had because he'll joke around with you.
I went into this class terrified of science and came out a bio major. Burleigh is so helpful and willing to go the extra mile to help students. He will take all the office hours it takes to help you understand the material. WOrk was not that hard you just have to go to class and study!
"and those sorts of things"=his coverup that he doesnt know anything about biology. He is horrible for lab.gives you these ridic quizzes every 2 weeks that are 60% of your grade...if he doesnt like you, he will fail u..also takes up the entire 2 hrs 40 min of lab..horrible teacher, barely managed to get a C and I'm a bio major
I had Burleigh for Biodiversity & Evolution lecture and lab, and I thought he was great. He is very clear but also easy to talk to if you have questions, but the class wasn't exactly easy: there was a lot of material being covered (ex. memorization of plant/animal nomenclature) and the tests/quizzes are mainly short answer/essay, but I loved it.
He is a great professor. You should pay attention in class and take notes. He lectures and uses power point mainly. Occasionally, he will have a hands-on project for the class. His quizzes and tests are challenging, but he gives extra credit and partial credit for answers. He is very nice and really cares about his students. Take him if you can.
A good lab professor. You will need to study for his quizes bec. they are worth more then the reports.
He is a great teacher. He is a bit awkward, but I think that is just because he cares so much about each student. You will need to study a lot for his exam, ect because he covers a lot of material, but the average amount or maybe a little above average amount of studying will do
Had him for lecture and lab. Material is tough. He wants a specific answer and takes off for the smallest things. Lab quizzes every week on the most random material. Good person with good intentions, just not that well of a teacher.
Discovery and Exploration. The class isn't an easy A at all, the books assigned to read are long but they are so interesting. Response papers are graded fair. Debates are fun. Hes a cool guy, always willing to answer your questions. You HAVE to read the four books, or your simply won't pass. I enjoyed it! Don't take if you don't like to read.
Had him for lab. He is ridiculously hard!! Lab quizzes every 2 weeks. Very very meticulous grader. Likes to use random decimal points as a grade. Don't take him..
I took him for lab, but I had a different professor for lecture. Big mistake. He tells his lecture classes things about lab and instructions that he wont mention in lab. Sometimes they directly contradict the stuff he says in lab and he grades based on what he says in lecture. If you're in my situation, make sure to befriend someone in his lecture
Nice professor, but such a difficult grader... sooo... keep searching.
This class was so easy. You read three books which are all very interesting. The lectures are usually discussing the reading and learning basic science info. You do some response papers and there's a lot of group work. Burleigh's a nice guy too. If you need a G course, take this class.
Keep on searching. His lectures consist of him talking and occasionally drawing on the board, and they are EXTREMELY dry. I love bio, but he's boring as hell. His exams are incredibly detailed. If you're the type of person who will memorize the text every night, you'll be fine. For everyone else, there's better professors.
I took him for bio lab last semester; no matter how hard I tried he pretty much failed me on every lab. He skims over things needed for the final exam. He's very negative - don't ask him for advice! He will shoot you down. And he doesn't go by the book for the lab- do not take him!
He's a very boring teacher so you lose interest fast. He doesn't like to explain anything to you, which will leave you confused. His tests are incredibly hard and he never tells you what exactly is on them, it could be any of the 20+ modules we go over in class. Keep searching for a better teacher, he's awful.
I had an overall positive impression of Dr. B until I started to realize how meticulous he is with his grading. He literally is the type of guy who will take 0.1 points off of an answer if it is not exactly what he wants. It is incredibly frustrating to deal with as a student. Always willing to help in his office though. He is an average professor.
Dr. Burleigh was really difficult for me. He is a great guy and really knows his stuff, but is so enveloped in his knowledge that he has a hard time saying in a simplified way. I definitely learned so much from him, and although he confused me, he always had time to explain the labs and lectures. That alone saved my grade.
One word. Godawful.
Burleigh is great at Lecture&always leaves days to just question him before tests. Most his tests are difficult, so you have to study&he'll remind you. His Online assignments were bull, but that was my only complaint w/ him. Take him, you'll learn a lil more (not much more) than your peers, which is nice to be better prepared for the future. :)
I took Dr. Burleigh's Cells and Molecules lab and going in I felt very confident that I would ace this lab (1 credit) class. The lab quizzes were a bit challenging and you have to read the lab material before the next one. ASK HIM QUESTIONS! Be detailed with the lab analyses, and read!! It was a little tough, but he's a great professor.
If you go to his office hours he will clear things up you might not have understood in class. But during his lectures, he is not very helpful. If you constantly go over your notes from his class, you should do well. Make sure to reread his questions on his tests because they can be unclear/misleading. If you have a 93 or above, the final is opt.
Dr. Burleigh is my savior! His is one of the most knowledgeable professors I have met! He knows the topic and health professions. Lecture can be a bit dry, histology is a difficult in depth subject. He is always willing to help! Put in the time you'll do well! Very nice guy. Listen to critic after exams. Expected of upper level.
Whatever you do, don't take him UNLESS you have taken AP Bio in HS. He explains things in a too complex manner that makes it even MORE confusing. He is a great person but is not the best professor for this course. Try someone else.
Dr. Burleigh is very strange. He will put you trough hell and back. You will have to study a lot!!! And when I say I lot I really mean a lot!!! If you want to pass with the good grade you will have to show him that you care. Go see him write away do not wait for the last moment.
Pretty awful teaching style. Just talks and you dont even know what to write down. Book does not help much because its a Med school-level book so half of what is in it is above the level of the class. I would avoid taking histology with him to be honest. Cant speak for his other courses
I studied at an IVY League school before Stockton, and this was as demanding but rewarding as many of my classes there. If you want an easy A, DO NOT take him for that. If you want to actually learn the material, and have an instructor who will push you, take this class. You will have to study a lot, tests are difficult but fair, and you WILL learn
Dr. Burleigh was a good professor. A lot of kids complain about him but honestly, if you just study and pay attention in his class, youll do well. His lectures are straightforward and he drops the lowest quizzes. I had him in the morning and half the time I would be falling asleep but I managed to get an A-. If you actually wanna learn, take him.
For lab, Dr. Burleigh always went over the procedure clearly before starting. If you had any questions during lab, you could always ask him. There was a quiz every lab day except the first day which were not too difficult as long as you studied and there were a handful of lab reports. Be specific in your lab reports and you should get a good grade.
Professor only lectures, the only information on his tests and quizzes is what he goes over in class. Quizzes are harder than tests. If you know all the information he lectures you'll get A's on the exams. Tough class if you did not take AP Bio
Dr. Burleigh was honestly a good professor in my opinion. His lectures were heavy but as long as you take good notes and make sure you understand whats going on you'll be find on his quizzes. His tests are much easier than the quizzes in my opinion. If you put in the work you'll get the A !!!
Professor has a quiz every week at beginning of class on specific information regarding the previous labs, some from labs weeks ago. Makes it so you can get a good grade on analysis papers, good feedback. Final is cumulative but easy if you participate and pay attention in each lab, do the work WITH your partner/group. Great professor, recommended.
Every bit of my notes I took ended being on the exam. If you read the chapters that you go over and re-write your notes, you'll be fine. You're a science major, you're expected to know the majority of the material to be good at what you do. A lot of people can't differentiate between earning your grade and a professor being bad. Would choose again.
Literally a joke. Doesnt follow through on any commitments, asks for your opinion and then says its wrong, makes you feel invalid and unappreciated or unheard. His tests and quizzes are ridiculous, asks for specifics but isnt specific himself.
Dr. Burleigh is an amazing professor. He is very good at teaching BIOL1200 but it is not an easy class. If you love bio he is a great professor to take because he is so knowledgable.
Worst professor Ive ever had and does not deserve his job. David Burleigh is a rude, unorganized, and uncaring person. He sent out nasty emails that were supposed to go to other people or classes, did an awful job at explaining topics, and is condescending to those who ask questions. He takes months to grade assignments, and the quizzes are a joke
Really expects you to teach yourself. Missed or forgot information in lecture and expects you to know even things he doesnt cover. Doesnt use power points and just draws in Microsoft paint sloppily and confusingly.
Very heavy lectures and keeping up is so difficult. However, he recorded the lectures and posted them for us to review. He explains very well but sometimes can get frustrating. When you ask him a question, he will make it overly complicated. I can't tell if he's understanding or not. Although you have to really study, he wants everyone to do well.
Dr. Burleigh is a tough prof. His class was definitely the hardest class Ive ever taken. For an intro class, his expectations were extremely high. I would study for hours and still not receive the grade I wanted. With that being said, you will learn and Burleigh definitely cares about the students and wants everyone to do well. Curves final grade.
He's not an awful person and he cares about his students but his lectures are very heavy and he does not provide straightforward answers or definitions. Very few quiz and homework assignments so one mistake can mess up your entire grade. Attendance isn't necessarily mandatory but you have to show up or else you wont learn anything. No PowerPoints!
Prof. Burleigh is knowledgeable, but very lecture heavy. If you miss class a lot, you will not pass. You have to take good notes, but as he is very fair. Everything talked about in class is on the test, there are very little surprises. I would recommend if you're willing to put in the work.
Dr. B. has high expectations. Lectures are very detailed, so take good notes because you will be studying from them. I was in quarantine and Dr. B. was super helpful because he recorded the lectures for me. If you know youre going to miss class, email him the night before, he will record for you. Flashcards are your friends.
Dr. Burleigh is nice, and I have no problem with him as a person. However, his class is EXTREMELY lecture heavy. If you're like me and can't hold your attention and learn with someone droning at you for like two hours, then don't take BIO1200 with him. You need to take notes, and they'd better be comprehensive. I genuinely could hardly stay awake
Do not take Dr.B. I had him for lab and he did a horrible job with explaining the exercises and gave little to no help when asked for assistance. He is a very tough grader and will take off points for everything. Half the labs done in class also did not work lol. Quizzes every class, labs each week, and a final. Do not recommend.
Many reviews say that he's bad, but I completely disagree. I think he's a great professor. He's always clear about expectations. This class is not easy, but you will actually learn the material. He gives good feedback and teaches well. He takes time to answer any questions. He replies to emails quickly. You just have to be ready to put in the work.
Dr Burleigh's lab was hard for no reason. He can be nice sometimes but he had his favorites. When explaining the lab he would rush through and I would be lost. Don't take his lab. There is a quiz in every lab based on the homework from the week before but they're unnecessarily hard. Even if you studied and showed up every lab you would barely pass
Coming from someone who gets A's in almost everything, this class was extremely hard for no reason. He doesn't explain things well, doesn't post grades and tells you to calculate it yourself, and only says the homework quickly out loud. He doesn't touch blackboard. Doesn't answer questions well. quizzes have the most irrelvant information on them.
Dr Burleigh is a very difficult professor who gives unfair exams and quizzes. Every class he would explain the same thing differently which would make it super confusing that I had to teach myself most lessons. His quizzes are all open ended and he is very particular of what you put and takes off points for everything.
Dr. Burleigh is very knowledgeable and nice, but the class was not for me. A lot of his information felt outdated, and he was not very responsive via email. Exams were difficult and outlines for said exams were unclear and misleading. Does not make lecture material accessible via BlackBoard either, most of the time doesn't use textbook information.
This professor was such a nice guy but he's really not good with helping you after his confusing lessons. I had him for bio. lab and lecture,he was often taking him time in labs and then rushing at the end and not finishing. This was so confusing and then he would test us on the homework adding questions from lecture,Very hard to get help.
He's very nice and knows the subject well, but get ready to study your butt off. Extremely lecture heavy, you're cooked if you miss a class or take bad notes. He doesn't use blackboard at all and you have to calculate your own grade.
As someone who gets all a's and ended with a c+ in this class, he is not a good professor. he takes points off your quizzes and tests for no reason, never posts grades on blackboard. You only ever know your class grade after he hands back exams. He never answers questions properly. He only writes on the whiteboard, no slideshows, no extra credit.
Only had him for lab. Caring guy fairly easy to reach via email and very passionate about Biology. However, he was an extremely critical grader. His weekly quizzes are very hard to pass. Labs were gradely weirdly and homework was always given out last second which made it hard to remember or even write down what he wanted completed.
Do not take it! I have no idea what my grade will be next month, but my entire class is either failing or dropping out! He makes things harder than they should be. He does not use the textbook but then says to read it. He does not answer emails. Lessons are not clear—lecture-heavy. Not available outside class time. Teach better!
Probably the worst teacher I have ever taken in my life. He never understands or answers any questions you have an often makes it more confusing. He marks his weekly quizzes incredibly hard, although he drops 3 but it doesn't even matter as the rest will be around the dropped grade. He favours groups and helps them more than others. DO NOT TAKE .
The worst teacher I have had in my entire life. So outdated and power hungry. He grades far too heavy where every student fails his weekly quiz. Never helps and favours certain groups in the lab and only stands by them to answer questions. Doesn't make you learn anything and is a waste of money. Quiz and Lab Report every week. DO NOT TAKE!!
Don't take. Graded by very few things, quizzes and tests are IMPOSSIBLE. No reviews for tests, no powerpoints, only notes are drawings. If you need a definition for something you better hope you were listening, nothing is written down. Terrible at teaching.
NO GRADES on BB, and his grading system is made up by him; only he can understand it as well! Admin does not care either. The whole class was failing, with fewer than 10 students remaining as everyone dropped before the drop date. He lectures and rambles off, likes to draw out most of his notes. Lecture, Quiz, and VERY TEST HEAVY. Stay away!
Had for lab, was awful. There was a test or quiz every week that was impossible to pass. Points system of grading made no sense. Does not use blackboard. He does not care. Unresponsive to emails. And will not think twice about embarrassing you. Awful experience. Do not take.
Holy moly. I have NEVER experienced a professor that was as bad as this one. Weekly lab quizzes that were less than 13 questions every time. It sets you up for failure. Doesn't even tell you what to study for the quizzes/tests. Do not take at any cost.
Poor communication and unresponsive emails hindered any student support. Unhelpful at office hours and a disconnect from the student concerns created learning challenges. Unclear points-based grading led to widespread failure and withdrawals, falling short of expectations for a tenured professor. Would reconsider taking with this Professor.
Professor Burleigh was really bad. Surprised the university still even has him teaching. Between telling us we have to calculate our own grades to zero structure within his teaching. Nothing is uploaded on blackboard and the tests have the most random things on it. Would not recommend Dr. Burleigh at all.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He actively wants students to fail. If you don't use the exact right wording he will take points off. He's super strict for no reason he will make you redo labs without explaining what you did wrong. There is literally nothing positive I can say about this professor
I almost dropped out of college because of this professor. If you take this class you will suffer the entire semester. He does not teach, does not grade, does not even offer help in office hours. I would rather delay my graduation then take this professor for any class. Do not do it.
Asking questions was almost pointless. Response, vague, unhelpful, or made students feel stupid for even asking. Included material that was never covered in class or barely mentioned. No helpful feedback. Grades were harsh, no curve, even when most of the class did poorly. When students asked for clarification, we were told read the textbook.
It was one of the most demoralizing academic experiences I've ever had. I honestly don't understand how this person is still allowed to teach. They're not just bad at communicating complex material—they seem to have no interest in student success at all. If you have a choice, avoid this class.
Every recent review abt this guy is dead on. He somehow is able to drone on about completely unrelated stuff that has little to nothing to do with whats on the lab. Grading criteria makes no sense, only occasionally grades your actual lab work. Quizzes are genuinely impossible to pass. This lab felt so disconnected from lecture. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
he's not a bad person and a very knowledgeable guy just not a good professor and a terrible explainer. the class is so bad i genuinely re developed a relationship with the lord.
Something must be terribly wrong in this man's life that he couldn't care less if his students are unsuccessful when putting in the extra effort. Point's system for grading must be used by NASA. NOTHING goes on BB. He is unresponsive to emails. Lectures don't always make sense. He flips from being personable to rude. Avoid if possible.
DONT TAKE AT ANY COST!!! Quizzes are impossible to pass. No slideshow notes, only whiteboard. You have to listen to every single detail or you won't pass anything. Tests are somehow even worse than quizzes. Nothing makes ANY sense.
Lab was extremely hard. Not sure how his lecture rolls, but nothing matched up when I got to lab. There is a weekly quiz, and it's almost a guaranteed fail. Homework is also graded in an odd manner. If you can avoid, I would recommend doing so.
This class was so unbelievably hard I don't even know how I passed the class. Nothing goes into Blackboard so it's a good thing I changed my major because I wouldn't have gotten a C and wouldn't have known till the last minute.
Very glad this semester is over. No idea how I passed. Attended office hours throughout the semester and it was pointless. Avoid.
Already not good at science, this guy just made it even harder. He doesn't care that his class was all failing at one time. His advice is just "change your way of studying" Good luck!
Impossible. Lack of concern was unreal. There goes my 4.0! Lecture heavy, yet unclear. Unavailable for office hours. No responses to email. Does not use Blackboard. Proceed with caution if you MUST! Can't believe I paid for this. The majority of the class withdrew or failed because he doesn't care. Takes academic freedom to the limit. BEWARE!
Dr. Burleigh struggles to effectively communicate and educate the students in lab. Grades come mostly from weekly homeworks and quizzes. Questions feel random and unrefined while being arbitrarily graded with points coming off for small vocab choices different from what he prefers even if still correct among other grading quirks.
Quizzes every week. he is so picky on the quizzes/hw answers. This man ruined my gpa. I tried my best by studying the lab but this man would mark an answer wrong by not using his word preference (words that even have the same meaning) and won't give any partial credit for attempting. Labs are done in groups and homework is always assigned.
Weekly quizzes and a rigid grading system. He marked answers wrong for not using his exact phrasing, even when the meaning was the same, and did not offer partial credit. Despite thorough preparation for lab questions, this lack of flexibility in grading, combined with group labs and consistent homework, negatively affected my academic performance.
Dr. Burleigh is a very hard professor to work with. He is lecture heavy, does not use Blackboard, lacks communication and if you do ask what to study, he will always say, "study everything". Has office hours, but you better pray he is there if you ask him for a private. Good luck to others who take him, you're better off with a different professor.
This professors class was so hard, If your days did not consists of reading for 7 hours and more you were not passing an exam. He was very lecture heavy and didn't explain well. Found out I didn't even need this class. :)
i'm not even joking i genuinely felt schizophrenic taking his class nothing made sense.
Run and never look back. If you are reading this, it is already too late. Drop this class. transfer schools if you have to. I entered this class full of ambition, bright eyed. left broken, unrecognizable, in a shell of my former self. He grades us like he's punishing us for sins we committed in a past life. Do not enroll. This is not a warning.
I read these reviews when I was registering for classes last semester and didn't listen because I thought it was all student error. Well it seems God has punished me for not listening because I am on the cusp of failing. He lacks communication skills, does not post grades, will not spare even 5 minutes to answer a question you have on a hw/quiz.
By far one of the worst professors I have had. Doesn't let you ask questions, you must see him after class. Doesn't help you. quiz every lab and you must answer in the exact words he wants. Will find anyway to give you points off. Did not use blackboard. will not tell you where you stand. It is a game with him. He does not care for his students!
DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES. This man does not care about you. He can't even find 2 minutes to answers any questions you have. mind you he will have you sit in the lab the entire class holds you with your quizzes so you don't leave , even when your done your lab. Terrible professor, made my last year here a sad experience.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! He doesn't teach, doesn't answer questions, and leaves you lost in lab. His grading is terrible and he won't post anything on Blackboard, so you never know your grade. When I emailed him to ask about my grade, he refused to tell me and said to come to his office. He makes things harder than they should be and the support is awful.
DO NOT TAKE AND RUN AWAY!!! One of the WORST classes I've taken. Almost the end of the semester and he hasn't entered a single grade, so you have no idea where you stand. When I asked, he just repeated my quiz and HW scores and didn't tell me my actual grade. Weekly quizzes are graded unfairly, you must use his exact wording to get full credit.
This was one of the worst experiences of my life. If you want to feel unheard, unseen, not cared about. then take this. If your smart RUN. He will not answer questions if he does he makes you feel stupid. He will glance at your work you bring him to office hours and say yeah thats what you have to do and then give you a c. He doesnt care one bit.
Genuinley the worst professor I've ever had. If you aren't willing to read two hours a day from the text book you won't do well in the class. He will include questions in exams or quizzes that he doesn't go over in his lecture and will never tell you what will be on them. Get anybody else for biology please!
