He's super! I didn't even have to take notes. He has notes for you. All you have to do is read the chapters in the books, do your internet biology homework and study his notes. You can't fail his course!

This was a very easy class. Just make sure you really study for the lecture tests....they are word for word from the lecture notes!! No HOMEWORK at all. Labs are kinda boring, and the lab tests are a little tricky, but all in all a great teacher!

I don't know if it is the class or the teacher, but I love plants and went in the class very excited, now I want to take my low "C" and leave! I think the class is too hard for an intro class. The class average is very low. I do enjoy his enthusiasm and accent though! Hard tests! Boring labs!!

He was a really great teacher. I hate biology and took him on the recommendation of some friends. So glad I did. It was still hard, but he gives you the notes, offers extra credit, and has a nice accent. Labs are boring, though.

He's the most easiest teacher I've ever taken (for an online class)...all you do is make sure you do the work, discussion boards, and take the tests and turn in the worksheets, and you'll get a really good grade... he's great..

Prof. Byres is a wonderful teacher. This was my third time taking biology and I was afraid of failing and thought I could not pass. He help me to understand biology more than any other professor I had ever had. I recommend Prof. Byres to anyone having to take biology.

This teacher is the best and is an easy A, he is a easy grader and even has the notes already all you have to do is go to his web page and print it up. also has practice test. The best teacher out there. if you want an easy grade take him. you don't need the book everything you need to know is on his note pages

Truly wish I had this guy for BIO I. No book necessary!(saves you $!) 50 quest Lecture tests r strait from easy to read notes. I memorized notes--got all A's on tests! 2 Lab tests where difficult and req'd serious study. If you can put forth a humble effort, then there's no reason you shouldn't make an A in this class. DO NOT TAKE ANYONE ELSE!!!!!

They don't call him Dr. Easy for nothing. Easy A, but I'm scared I wasn't challenged enough for more bio classes at a 4-yr school. If you really want to learn and understand the material, take another prof.

I had a great time in his class. For the hybrid class, you will need a study system to absorb the online notes. I suggest note cards and audio recording.

Byres made Biology a more prospecting major now after taking him. He is very precise, concise, and professional. His work is straightforward, but you have to work hard to earn the grade you want! All the necessary information is provided for by the Prof. Byres, therefore, there is no need for the book. Take Byres, Avoid Llyod and Killer Miller!!!!!

"Biology for DUMMIES 101"! How thorough is the course if you "don't even need to open the text" -which you don't -(see numerous comments below)? If you're taking more sciences & need this as a foundation, you'll be in trouble later. Too bad, too; because Dr. Byres knows his stuff & his website is EXCELLENT. Doesn't trust his students' intelligence.

If you have never taken biology or have just a basic understand of it this is the professor for you. Biology could not be broken down any easier than this. The word terms are broken down so you understand what they really mean and the lab was easy too. There are leature notes you have to print out to study from, there is no need for the textbook.

I took him online & I loved it! The only thing that I didn't really like was that the class was online but you had to go in to take your tests. Other than that, I would take him again in a second. You don't use your book. He gave notes and a review sheet & that's what the tests were on. Pretty straight forward. EASY A if you study the review sheet

The Best!!!!!!! I took him for Botany and Bio. Bot was hard but I learned so much. Labs can be difficult but he gives a study sheet. I found the lectures and the labs to be very interesting, and very informative. Beautiful accent. Never makes you feel stupid for asking questions and always helpful. Best Science teacher I have ever had, by far!!!!!!

Dr. Byres is awesome. Easy to follow. Test are from the study notes. You do not need a book to pass. The worksheets are long, but not difficult. Do them as assigned, the worksheets. Take this course, you will go to campus to take exams. That I did not understand. Dr. Byres is really cool.

Great Professor!

I took online, great class. Do not waste your money on a book, his tests are straight from his lecture notes which you get from his website. Tests have nothing to do with the book! Worksheets and DBs are easy grades and he gives sample test questions that are on the test (about half of the test!) But i still don't get going in to take his tests??

I did NOT take this class online (like several people who have rated him before me). Very nice man and I learned SO much about things I had no previous knowledge about. Tells you interesting info too. Tests, especially lab tests, are definitely challenging. Study the notes VERBATIM and you should make good grades on the tests.

A great teacher! The class is very easy as long as you attend class and study for all of the test. It is basically memorization from notes and hands on labs in class. Even though it was easy I learned alot of information that I found very intersting. Its easy but at the same time you learn alot! He also drops your lowest test.

Great Professor... You don't need a book, he gives you study notes, must study them b/c they will be on the test. Lab test were semi difficult. Study and you will do fine in this class. If you don't want to study.... keep searching.

I enjoyed this class much more than I anticipated. I took it online. There are worksheets for most chapters and 4 exams. He gives sample test questions, which is very helpful. He provides the lecture notes, which I think is outstanding. You really don't need the textbook.

This was my third class with Dr. Byres, and I wish he taught more classes. I will say that I did not enjoy this class as much as the others due to it being a hybrid course (lectures on-line). I am more of a visual learner, and with his accent, when Dr. Byres talks, I listen and learn. Awesome professor. Tests are straight from notes. Labs..STUDY 4.

Online course-4 tests all straight from notes. Never bought book and got an A. Must study lectures to pass. Online worksheets weekly- a/b 40 questions. Online discussion board is 3 sentences a week (and went 1 wk w/ no discussion or online worksheet). Responds quickly to emails, but no feedback on what questions you got wrong on worksheets/tests.

I would love to take him for bio 2! Since I took it in the summer it was very fast paced but not hard to keep up with at all. His online worksheets are pretty interesting if you take your time doing them. Besides those, the lecture notes are easy and the labs arent too bad. As a student at a 4 yr university, it doesn't get much easier than this.

Great Professor!! Very easy class...The only bad part is the tests are only 30 mins and they are 50 questions each. Print out your lecture notes. All answers are on the lectures notes for the tests. Weekly worksheets are simple. Never bought or used a book! I am trying to take his lab class now

He is great! Must study for test but all answers are in lecture notes. Don't need book! Taught me a lot! Lab test are pretty hard so study. offers extra credit and sample test which are very much like the test. More than enough time to tests. Either you know or you don't. Highly recommended! I loved this professor! You will not pass if you don't study the lecture notes but they are very easy to understand and actually interesting. He was very helpful in class. Labs were difficult but you can talk to your fellow students and figure it out. Lab tests were the hardest part of the class. I really enjoyed this class and made a B.

Got A in 8wk summer class. Study the lecture notes and associated articles. Test come straight from Lecture notes he provides. Do Wkshts and Comment on weekly topic article and you are sure to get an A.

Nice Professor, Team Project at the end of term, make sure you have Power Point! Easy in the beginning harder in the end. Read the Chapters. One shot timed unit exams- quizzes every week but you can take them multiple times also weekly worksheets

Thoroughly enjoyed taking this course. Took the hybrid class. Everything needed to pass the test is in the lecture notes. Lab tests (2) are a little difficult, but not impossible if you study. Dr. Byres was very helpful and i would recommend him to anyone. Just study, study, study and you'll do fine.

pretty hard class, but you do learn a lot about botany. you do need to study A LOT. if you are looking for an easy A this isn't it, but if you are looking to really learn material, this is a great course and a great professor

Lab test were the hardest. Test are from lecture notes and gives you a study guide to help you learn what he wants you to learn. has a little sense of humor very smart and helpful. if he gives you extra credit take it! you will be glad you did.

If you are looking for an easy A don't bother. You must study to do well for the tests but all of the information is in the typed notes he gives you at the start of class. He is very knowlegeable and has a good sense of humor. Extra credit is plentiful and if you do it you will be happy you did. I didn't do it and now wish i had. Could have had a B

Very time consuming assignments for online class,not always enough information to complete or understand how to do assignments. Professor very helpful but leaves few comments on your graded work. Returns your email fast, very informative class.

Mr. Byres is a very detailed professor. The notes and the study giudes were EXTREMELY CRITICAL to review if you want to pass this class!!!! He responds to emails quickly. Took his online class and the book is NOT needed! If you study the notes and practice tests he provides, you will do great! There were 4 tests that are taken in person. The DB only requires you to respond to one other student. One internet worksheet is due each week. Very easy~ Take this class!

Online class - Discussion post and reply each week and a worksheet. No quizes only 4 tests that you take at school. Use study guide and practice test for tests. Tests are multiple choice, short answer and fill in the blank. This is not a hard class and Mr. Byres responds quickly to emails. Recommend him.

Awesome teacher. He def. makes you learn this stuff! You have to STUDY his lecture notes (if not you won't pass). If you aren't a Bio or Chm major and you are just taking a class for elective, I would suggest not this one; you really have to learn his material but her is an awesome teacher!

Took his HYBRID Princ of Bio class last semester. Only went into class for labs on tues. So no lectures. He posted all of out lectures notes online. Just study those and the lab notes. Youll get at least a B in the class.

Mr. Byres online class was great! I came in not really liking Biology but he really changed my view on it! He post grades quicky and responses to your questions quickly.The assignments are very insightful! You don't need to purchase a book, just STUDY the lecture notes and the practice test and you should do fine! But you must STUDY!

Don't need the textbook; STUDY STUDY STUDY his lecture notes. All test questions come from his LECTURE NOTES. Internet worksheets somewhat extensive; discussion boards super easy. I took a strictly online class, super easy (and YOU DON'T NEED THE BOOK!!), freshman level bio class to boost my GPA for nursing entrance scores. He says exactly what is expected. As long as you STUDY the lecture notes, do the discussions and internet worksheets, there's no reason not to get an A. Super easy class to take, while still learning alot

This professor is very easy if you can study for tests. The textbook is not used. The labs seem to be a guess of whether or not you're lucky, as the answers are not found in the literature always. Overall it was easy and minimal time is required to receive an A.

The discussion board posts and internet worksheets I found very interesting, however his tests are not easy! Multiple fill in the blank. He tests solely from his lecture notes and you have to essentially memorize all of them in order to do well on the tests. I am a straight A student and I got a C in this class. No extra credit opportunities.

Honestly I don't understand why people are giving this guy negative reviews. I took the only BSC1005 class and I knew exactly what was expected of me. The tests come DIRECTLY from the notes. The book is not required. He grades quickly. Do your work, read the notes, STUDY and there's no reason why you shouldn't pass his class.

This was a difficult course only due to the fact it was a Summer class verses a spring or fall call. Summer classes are shorter so more info is crammed into a shorter amount of time.

Professor Byres is up front about what is expected of students. However I shouldn't have taken it as a hybrid. I would have done better face to face. there is a lot of memorization. labs are fun if you like microscopes and plants. He gives a lot of busy work to make up for poor test grades however you have to do decent on test for that to help.

Professor Byres was a GREAT professor. I've hated science all of my life and this class made me love it. I took his hybrid class. The labs were fun and the tests are fine if you know how to study. No textbook needed. Follow instructions and you will excel. Made an A and wish I was taking one of his classes still.

No matter how hard I studied his hand outs, I could never pass the tests. Most of my class had the same scenario. His tests are mainly fill in the blank, which may be why I never passed. He's a very nice professor though, and helpful.

No book is required which is great! the only downfall is the work is due by Sat not Sun

Professor Byres was very helpful and very understanding if you had any issues, responses promptly, goes out of his way to assist. It just seemed that no matter how hard I would study for the tests the notes were extensive and the study guides no matter how long I studied. Worksheets are due by Sat not Sun and the discussions are due by Thurs nights

I took this class as a hybrid course, it's easy if you study, pay attention and participate, follow directions carefully. compared to other biology classes this is the simplest and easiest one, TAKE HYBRID for him, work consists of discussion board, internet worksheets, notes online, lab quizzes after you've done a lab and 3 test of labs

A great highly interesting crash course for biology. Online course was only 7 weeks, so lots of material covered. Easy weekly worksheets and short discussion posts. Only 4 tests taken at proctored sites, they're NOT open-book. But everything on the tests is taken directly from the notes he provides - making Quizlets was a HUGE help!

I appreciated the level of trust this professor has in the student, it gave me the confidence to continue and successfully finish the class. I enjoyed that all the discussion board topics were relatable, current and relevant to today's event. Great Class and Great professor

If you take the hybrid class, all you do is labs in class and he would explain some things here or there but you just have to study the one page of notes he would put online and you will pass. The practice test will also help a lot. Just make sure you actually study it because he like to change the wording on the test. Overall easy class

I LOVE his teaching style. You only go to class for labs, he give you a very organized study guide for his tests (you have to memorize these study guide like the back of your hand), and his discussion boards are all incredibly easy. I'm taking him again for BSC2011C

Study guides are literally the tests. Study and go to class and you will make an A. I take full responsibility for me getting a C in this class. I took him when I first entered college and I admit to slacking a little.

Botany is not the hardest of classes so this was quite an easy class. Prof Byres was an easy grader on the hw's he gave. I took the hybrid so there were weekly discussion boards and some 5-page paper Q&A to which the answers are found in the weblinks he provides. However, the tests can be hard! Make sure you REALLY study EVERYTHING in the notes!

I absolutely loved this class. This is a hybrid class so be prepared to study at home. If you want to pass the tests make sure you memorize the lecture notes like the back of your hand. Classroom time consists of labs and sometimes field trips. Professor Byres is very easy to contact and responds in a timely manner. I definitely recommend this class

Prof. Byres was one of the most direct teachers I've had. You walk into class and you know exactly what is expected. He has you print out a copy of the lecture notes that he has created and that is exactly where your tests will come from. I feel like I really learned well in his class. Highly recommend him!

If you actually study, like genuinely study you will pass. His test are verbatim and are exactly from his lecture notes. The homework is interesting and super easy. You will be taking a test every week in the summer but it's really not that hard if you take time to study for it every week. No trick question. Made A's on every lecture test.

Prof. Byres was a great prof for this course. I took BSC1005 8 weeks online. Workload was pretty moderate. You just need to make sure you study his lecture notes. ALL 4 tests come directly from those notes. He gives good feedback and responds within 24 hours. Highly recommend taking this course

Want to take him again for bio 2. I recommend taking his hybrid class because tests are verbatim from the notes. For hybrid, you only show up for labs. Easy lecture tests as long as you study the notes. If you have a good attendance, hell drop your lowest test score. The only thing challenging might lab tests. Overall, great teacher.

All you have to do to get an A in his class is read is lecture notes that he posts online. He doesn't require a textbook or a lab manual. All he asks is that you show up to lab, do a discussion post and a worksheet weekly. Honestly one of the easier biology courses I have taken.

Took the 7 week course, it was a big work load, 60 question worksheet every week, with 3 discussion boards activities. Exams are a little difficult, just make sure to read over the review before taking exam at a campus. Great professor who is willing to help you if you need it, just ask him. I would recommend the class if you don't mind the work.

This is one of the best Biology classes! The lecture tests (6 of them) are exactly like the notes so just memorize everything off of the notes he gives you and you should be fine! Lab tests (only 2) are a little more challenging so really do look over all the labs to study! Overall an easy A, and a great way to start off your Science/Premed GPA!

Amazing teacher. I am currently taking his BSC2011C (Bio2) class because I liked his class so much. He gives online discussions, Internet worksheets you can either email to him or give it to him in class. He really knows what he is talking about and is very helpful if you need him in class.

I took his hybrid Bio class that was relatively easy. Show up and do the labs with your partner and take a test every other week. Lecture tests were straight from the notes, 2 lab tests were challenging- definitely study for those! Turn in one worksheet and one discussion per week. If you do the work and study you should do really well.

Great Professor that makes a difficult class a lot easier. He gives plenty of credit assignments to offset the difficulty of the 4 tests he gives. All of the test information comes from his lecture notes, but he throws in curve balls. You can pass this class without high test grades. He communicates very well, and responds quickly to questions.

Took this online, lots of reading worksheets, time consuming but really easy, discussions about an article every week but articles are actually interesting. No notes for proctored tests, questions include small details so study hard for them, leave no detail behind. Test study guides give like half the test questions. Easy A if you study for tests.

Highly recommended online biology course for non-science majors. The material is clearly written with easy-to-follow websites and outlines. Discussions are based on interesting, current web articles. Proctored tests are based on provided lecture notes and practice tests. Do the basic work, study the notes provided, and you can't go wrong.

I actually really liked this professor. I like the way he teaches,I learned a lot of stuff I did not in my other biology class which I had to retake. He made the class affordable and gives plenty of opportunities. And I did not find his class boring at all and enjoyed the labs and articles he made us read.

Hes straightforward in his lectures. Doesnt show much personality but thats fine i guess. Has a website with all the info no BB. You can print out the study guide that has all the answers for the tests. Some lab tests. All answers are given to you. If you try, youll pass 100%

He grades super quickly; took the last lecture test a few days ago, had it graded and in bb within an hour of taking the test. tests q's can be very specific (fill in the blank w multi choice) but the answers are all in the notes on his website. Pay attention to what you read & during the labs, lab tests will be hard if you don't; easy worksheets

Grades on a scale out of 600 points and the tests alone take up 400 points . Makes getting an A nearly impossible but his labs are totally worth it. He demonstrates everything first and answers any questions you have. He does give practice test but in order to do good, you have to study outside of them. Quick grader, post them right after class.

I took this online and the tests were what messed me up the most. They're a mixture of multiple choice and short answers, and they are 50 questions and 40 minutes long at the testing center.

This class is super easy before you account for the tests. You have 1 worksheet and 1 discussion board per week to complete. Easy A's on those. However, the tests are made up of multiple choice & short answer questions. He provides notes for you that you NEED to basically memorize in order to pass the tests. 4 chapters per test. good luck.

A majority of your grade will be on tests which are very specific and you wont pass without studying but if you put in the effort its not that hard and hes a pretty generous grader. The final was mildly hard but if you study all the lecture tests and the typical test questions he provides for each test youre good. Really informative lectures.

I took his Biology1 & 2, very organized,1 discussion (half hour) &1 research HW (1½ hour) every week. labs are easy and he explains every detail. Tests every other week if you study the lecture summary on his website you'll get more than 90. Don't expect an A if you're not studying. Prf Byres is very professional. He really cares & he replies fast.

Absolutely pass or fail by your own merit. Memorize everything on the notes, including examples. However, as far as comprehensibility goes, he goes above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need. We did not have lectures because of Covid, but between the hw, labs, discussion, and notes, I feel confident in my knowledge of Biology.

One thing: when taking exams, make sure your phone is off and put away. My friend got in trouble when her TURNED OFF phone fell out of her pocket.

I took Dr. Byres for Biology 1 and loved him so much I signed up for his Biology 2 class. The homework is easy if you actually read the articles for the worksheets, usually the answers are never hard to find. The labs are easy. He GIVES you the notes to study for the tests and practice questions. Honestly, I don't understand how people don't pass.

Take the time to study and you will get an A. There were four test total (each 50 questions with a time limit of 40 minutes). If you study well, the test will only take you 20 minutes to do. I barely studied for my first test and got a D. The other three test, studied the night before for 3 hours and got all As.

Honestly one of the easiest classes I've had & still learned something. The Study Guides are extremely easy, view the links on them and pay attention to little footnotes. For the regular tests you could literally only study those and nothing else and should still get at least a B. The lab tests are easy as well just participate and you're fine.

Professor Byres is pretty good. Please keep in mind that although it is only BIOL 103, you must put forth your best effort. He does not give out 100's unless it is complete and well-thought out work, especially for the labs.

You know exactly what is on the tests because he goes over EVERYTHING. As long as you study all the information he provides, you will pass. His course is definitely challenging because it is a lot of information to memorize but if youre here to learn, hes here to teach! Couldnt recommend prof. Byers more!

I looked through the comments under this Professors rating AFTER taking the course & all I have to say to the people complaining about him is that they did not study for any of the tests. Make flash cards of all the info he provides during lectures and you will do great. He is super approachable and has great lectures. Couldnt recommend more.
