dude, nice guy, but such a horrible prof...Even though I got an A, he sucked!
Get ready to write LOTS of papers!
Easy due to the fact that all you have to do is know how to write a paper! Noone showed up for class and it seemed like Professor Calonne had our grades pre-determined from paper #1 on.
I enjoy his class. He includes you so you're not bored by a lecture all hour. Just come prepared to discuss the readings (which are long but very good) and learn how to write a good grammatical paper (hence: ENGLISH) I like him :) He's shibby.
Good lord what a terrible professor, i learn nothing at all but i went to class no more then 5 times, 3 of those to turn a paper in and i still got an A.You want an easy A take this class, you want to learn something, dont
Very easy, write four papers and that's it. Easy grader...but if you actually want to learn and get constructive feedback on your work take another class.
Dr. Calonne is the most brilliant professor at Eastern Michigan and has a compelling way of always holding our interest in class.
the class was easy and there wasent too much homework. the only thing about this class is that its boring. you can only talk about certain subjects for so long
This is the worst class I've ever taken. Theres no need to go to class (except to turn in your papers) because you won't learn a thing. If you want an easy A take this class, if you want to learn, DONT. Its so so boring!
This professor was extemely unorganized. I learned nothing in this class. He seemed like he knew what he was talking about but did not know how to get it across to the students. I would not recommend this professor.
This guy is cool. The class is easy. For all you people crying about writting papers - 'Hello your in college'Man Up. Somtimes yes, the class went a little slow, but hey the guy is hot so it's worth going.
I really enjoyed these classes. Calonne is a brilliant man, and yes, the class is easy if you show up and write the papers. He does teach a lot if you just listen to what he is saying and he is more than willing to sit down and help you reach your potential. He was groovy ;)

I found the class to be boring however, the upside is really no homework ,just 2 papers and he grades easy... all you need in this class is an opinion, and you are sure to do well
um, all he did was talk about himself and random topics unrelated to native american literature, however he's very knowledgeable and i learned a lot about other things. the class is easy and if you want to learn you will. if you want an easy A you'll get it.

The topics were interesting, but you won't learn anything. You just read and turn in papers all semester. Very easy class....
Outstanding professor. What you get out of his class is what you put into it.
he talks about a lot of other things other than the topics we read for class discussion. you dont really learn anything. just write essays without any grammer and punctuation mistakes and you'll do fine.
2 papers and 2 presentations...that was it
Very easy class, but boring. I reccomend reading the text although you certainly don't have to. He says attendance counts but doesn't seem to take attendance. You don't have to work too hard on the papers, either. Just make sure they're the right length and follow MLA format and you're good.
I actually really enjoyed this class. It was very easy and very straightforward, and I liked the laid-back feel.

If you're looking for an easy A, this is the class for you. It was really awful... I didn't learn a thing and felt like I was just wasting my tuition. He seems to know his stuff and has good intentions, but the class was just so boring, and like I said I really didn't learn anything... certainly not what I expected from the class.
Very nice guy. Class is super chill and very easy. Go to class and talk about readings. Or don't go and show up to turn in the papers, it doesn't really matter. You can get an A if you're alright at writing. If you're not, I'm not sure you'll learn much. This guy is cool and lets you run the class, awesome class!
Class was very chill & easy! wrote like 2 2-page papers and 3 4-page one...no home work no test no final just those paper. definitely a easy class
DO NOT BUY THE BOOK, WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY! I opened mine once! 3 papers (4-6 pages), 1 final paper (6-8 pgs w/ research). Easy Easy class! He is boring tho, randomly stares off into space or at random students and gets side-tracked with weird topics. But other than that, easy A/B (if you're good @ writing that is).
First time he ever taught this class. Very easy class, he's just annoying. Most, if not all, of what he says is his opinion or a class discussion based on the readings. TONS of reading, but the only time you need to read is when you have to give your assigned summary (each person does 3). 2 papers, graded easy. No tests.
Prof Calonne is a great guy.He is passionate about literature. This class is easy.We had to do 2 papers and 2 easy group presentations. He will give you help if you need it.There are no tests, but he may give an EASY quiz on one of the books that you were supposed to read.Sometimes, lectures were a bit boring.I recommend him if you want an easy A.
2 Group presentations, 4-6 pg essay, Final 6-8 pg essay, 8 quizzes, & Attendance. Keep up with reading your book, cuz he randomly hands out quizzes (all or nothing score). He's so boring (but really nice & intelligent). Class is boring (use time to catch up on other classes). I just sat back and let the nerds run it. Easy class!!!
AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL. The reading was incomprehensible and Calonne did nothing to clarify it. Grade was based on 2 essays and lightly on your summaries on assigned readings he gives you(class presentations). I got an A- but am an excellent writer.. it's my major.
Brilliant professor who should receive a MacArthur Genius Award. His teaching awakens the minds of everyone in class and inspires all to grapple with the readings that he has so wisely chosen. Professor Calonne is HOT, HOT, HOT!
Prof. Calonne is a genius. Internationally renowned, he presents scholarly papers all over the world. Also, he is HOT!
Great professor. Has great grasp of his subject.
One of my favorite instructors. He is outwardly passionate about the subject matter and is able to channel that passion into his teaching. Open minded and thoughtful, Calonne is very helpful. Many of our class periods consisted of open ended discussions of art and philosophy that were greatly catalyzed by his musings.
Very easy class. I only showed up about half the time. We had about 3 or 4 papers, and the final was just a portfolio of all of the papers we had written during the semester. Most classes were just discussions on readings in the book
I did all of my papers and he always said it wasnt what he asked for!!! He did not explain it well and the papers were all 4-6 pages! The class is not that hard if you like to be bored and write about un-interesting things.
Hes super nice and has interesting ideas. If you read one author for each paper (there is 3) you will never need to go to class unless you are turning something in. Papers were incredibly easy and were very informal (even in research papers).
Class is soooooooo boring. You only write 3 papers and he lets you pick any subject that just relates to the book you read in class. Not a hard grader at all and at the end of the semester you get to revise 2 essays and he will re grade it. Easy A!
He's a great teacher. Extremely intelligent and thought-provoking. He's old and slow though, but nice nonetheless. We have three essays, and the at the end of the semester, we can revise two of them and he'll regrade them. If you show up, and are able to write semi-well at least, you'll be in good shape.
Pretty easy class. One 4-page paper and two 5-page papers. If you know how to write at a college level you will get an A on all your papers. Class discussions are based on World of Ideas book. You only need to read the section he asks of you. All of the papers are based on WoT. You will never need to use the Everyday Writer book, so don't buy it.
He is really laid back and you only do two big papers. He gives little question quizzes every once in awhile but just to get your opinion on what you are reading. Plan to take him for my other class.
He means well, but he is very unclear about what he wants. The class was super boring.. I felt like i was in a philosophy class rather than an english class. You write 3 papers and one project. You do need the books, but you only use them when he asks you to give a summary of a chapter or to write an essay. Essay A.
Very easy assignments and he grades easy.
Good professor, just a really easy and boring class. He doesn't even talk about English too much he just goes off on tangents. There's 3 papers, a reflection letter, a project, and a portfolio. He cancels class for meetings a lot. You need the books he references them a lot and you have to read from them. If you can write well, you'll do fine.
Professor Calonne is really nice and laid back. Lectures can be boring but I just brought my laptop and listened played on Facebook. I bought the thick book but not the package from the school and was just fine. The three papers you write are super easy and you can pick anything you want to write about. Great, interesting professor.
Class was kind of boring. He has a monotone voice that makes the class not too exciting but he can be funny. As long as you do the assignments and make the corrections on your essays you will get a good grade. I hear he is a lot easier than the other professors so take him if possible. He gets along with the students and respects your opinions.
He is not bad, i wish i actually got the chance to learn more about writing. This professor just goes on and on about a dumb book. Anyway the three papers you have to write are relatively easy, he is just a hard grader.
This is a WRITING class, please be aware of this before you leave a comment please. The writing assignments are long, but not impossible, and as long as you write the length you will get at least a B. Lecture is a little strange because we mostly talk about the philsophies in the book he assigns, but it is interesting if you participate.
This professor was my favorite professor of the semester. He is helpful and respects your opinion. We got along very well. I recommend him.
David is nice and means well but he does go off topic at times. The papers are pretty easy as long as you follow the guidelines. Overall pretty good class.
Great professor. He is not a hard grader, whatsoever. Take him if you already know a little bit about writing because he basically teaches philosophy/sociology and not writing, which I actually enjoyed quite a bit. I only received less than an A when I did not meet the paper length requirements.
He is very laid back and very easily contactable. He gives good feedback on your papers and gives you the opportunity to rewrite at the end of the semester. Good teacher and very mellow guy.
David was a great professor. You really get to explore what you like writing about as long as it is under one of a couple categories. He is a very easy grader and gives you the opportunity to rewrite all your essays at the end of the semester
I did not enjoy this professor, we did not talk about the writing process or writing at all. He likes to talk about philosophy and theory but not writing .
I didn't start out on good terms with Mr. Calonne. However, after talking to him about it, everything was okay. He is a genuinely caring man, and wants to help you improve your writing. His lectures can go off topic a bit, however, they do tie into the readings. Overall, read, take good notes, and show up. Engage in the the conversations as well.
Honestly easy A, you write 3 essays and he doesn't grade hard, he lets you give your own opinion on all essays. He lets you do corrections on 2/3 essays. He's very caring and understanding. No exams.
Best teacher. Laid back and chill. You don't do much, a few readings that we will ask if you want to do and then you will have to write some papers, but he gives plenty of time to work on the assignments and the two days following the day you turn it in you go in for one 5 minute meeting on a day you pick and that's it. Doesn't care if you are late
do nothing and get an A. GPA boost
This class is what you make of it. He gives you two full days to work on papers and peer reviews so its pretty hard to not turn something in on time or at all. Easy a for sure. If you show up, participate, and read, youll be fine.
Only 3-4 papers, plus he takes attendance into account. Doesn't really teach you anything from the textbook per say, but gives very good real life examples to help relate what he is teaching. Really enjoyed his class, and having him as a professor. Pretty easy A if you show up and do the work
Easy A. He is very nice but classes can be a little boring - he tries to start class discussions but a lot of times no one talks so he sort of rambles on and tells his own stories. Just 3 essays - chance to rewrite 2 of them for better grade. Attendance counts but you can miss 4 classes.
Probably one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. The essays were extremely easy. No final exam, your final grade is based off of 3 essays from the whole semester. You can basically never show up to class and still receive an A.
Professor C was one of my favorites. His lectures were interesting but not a hard class at all. He assigns people to read chapters every class then we come to class and people give their feedback on the assigned chapters they read. Easy class. just do the readings and take notes when people explain their part. Great professor. 2 papers no quizzes.
Mr. Calonne gets off track a lot. Yes that may be good sometimes but he talks all class about something completely irrelevant to the class. I had his for a writing a course and he didnt even talk about writing. Do not take him! You will fall asleep in his class everyday
Hes a very easy professor. He lectures a ton and most of the time its not even about writing but I didnt mind. Very nice and he is quite funny. Theres 3 essays which are the only grades for the class and he grades pretty easy. You can revise 2 of the 3 at the end of the semester. Id recommend him!
The professor is a really smart and nice guy, just doesnt know how to teach. He rambles on and on about readings that barely pertains to the class. His grading is very arbitrary and can be changed with some protest. Did not learn a single thing about writing in the class but I would take it again for the easy A.
Calonne is a nice guy, but just doesn't know much about writing. He often goes on tangents that have nothing to do with the subject and is very opinionated about certain topics. I, personally, felt that he didn't respect my thoughts and feelings in class and would often ignore me when I raised my hand. Show up to class, listen, & do your best.
Calonne is awesome! Really funny guy with a lot of life experiences. You don't really have to go to class but it's nice to here him talk and think about different things. He's a very philosophical and intelligent person.
Hes a fair grader and nice guy. Lets you redo 2 out of 3 papers for a better grade as well. Just super boring so dont take an 8 am.
If you're taking wrtg121, take it with this prof! His lectures can go off topic, but you don't need to take notes. Class is 3 essays(and the only wrtg121 class like that) and he's super easy if you know how to write an essay. You have to read three sections from the book and discuss in class, but it's super easy. Loved this class!
The class itself comprised of going readings from textbook, 3 essays, a portfolio, and presenting something at the CSW (PowerPoint, poster, brochure, etc..) Youre allowed to redo 2 out of the 3 essays if you didnt like the grade that Professor Calonne gave you. Overall very laid back class and recommended if you just want an easy A
Dr. Calonne only assigned 4 papers, you have a lot of freedom to choose a topic, and he gives clear expectations. You will buy 2 books, and he asks 3 students to read & summarize a passage for next class discussion. He has tangents when people aren't participating in the discussion enough, but otherwise they're fun class periods. Pretty easy class.
Professor Calonne is okay. He tends to go off on a tangent very, very often. You will use the book but it is truly not very necessary to get it. At the beginning of the semester, the book was used to read summaries of the passages and tell the class what it was about for participation. There are 3 papers in total, and at the end you can revise 2.
Professor Calonne is great professor! His course consists of readings from the textbook, with only 3 papers and a final portfolio. Calonne allows redos on 2/3 papers and gives feedback so you know what exactly to work on. He is a funny, caring, and understanding guy. Keep in mind attendance is graded, but if you show up and listen, you'll pass.
The best professor I ever had! He is the most genuine person ever and cares about how students are doing. He has the most interactive class discussions that engage all students. He respects every student and goes beyond to make everyone comfortable. He allows retakes on essays, and is easy to reach outside of class 10/10!
He is a good professor, although it was a lot of him talking to himself (no one participated...). As long as you follow essay prompts and get the length you'll get a good grade. I didn't learn a lot about writing in this class, it was more a philosophy/world literature class (which was still cool). 4-5 papers, one project- not very difficult class.
You are required to recite some of the daily reading in class once in a while but he assigns you what to read when you need to recite. I didn't do much reading but some of the topics were very interesting to write about and read up on so you can wait to listen to him talk about the passages in class. Easy class and he will help you with your work.
Very lecture heavy, some can drag and not have much meaning. But overall, is a nice professor and can help if needed.
I had David for a writing class and I learned little to nothing when it comes to writing and reviewing essays. He lectures every class, most of his lectures drag on seeming to have no end or point. He takes points off for things he never taught in class which gets annoying. Very easy class though.
Very kind professor. Did not assign a lot of work. Class mainly just required active participation.
Awful professor who needs to retire. All he does is yap throughout the entire class, and has to make every topic he yaps about political. Doesn't give out any outline or rubric to follow for any papers. This is a blow-off class. Don't take this class with him if you want to learn about writing.
Dr. Calonne was a very chill professor. He does tend to go off topic during lectures and will spend most/all of class lecturing but you can get your work done in class while he talks. He doesn't require attendance and you can resubmit 2 out of the 3 total assignments for a better grade.
I should have listened to the other reviews here, don't do what I did and ignore them. This class drags in a way none of my other classes do. It's boring, overly political, and the professor often goes on speculative tangents. No clear rubric or feedback, either. If you enjoy writing or are looking to improve your skills do not take this class.
He is hard to understand and speaks in one tone. He rambles on and on the entire class, personally it was not beneficial for me to learn like that.
Super nice teacher—I really recommend him.
he is so smart and so cool.
Professor Calonne's class was the most dreadful part of the week. His lectures are just him talking about theories or things he's learned recently. He gets oddly political and drags it on. The work is easy, the lectures though are definitely the toughest part. This semester's attendance and participation were required, and u need books.
This class is very thought provoking and informational. However, it is moreso about philosophy and ideas than it is about writing. I am already a strong writer, so yapping about my ideas in essays was really fun!! However, if you are not a strong writer, maybe pick a different prof! This class doesn't focus on the rules or structures of writing.
This class was not difficult, but mildly boring. Class time usually consisted of the professor lecturing about philosophical concepts with a little participation from students. While I did learn new random concepts, he did not really teach writing skills. As an already strong writer, I did not have an issue. It was a fine class.
