I love this man to death. The best proffesor I have ever had. Get his class, even if it is at eight o'clock.
See julie good teacher
Very nice man. He has amusing comments, but isnt very confident in what he says. Tests are not a problem if you go to class. A lot of reading is involved. Again, pleasent teacher.
He is a nice guy, but he is very scattered and hard to follow. He does give you a study guide for the test, which will save you because you really have to teach it to yourself because he's so hard to follow.
BORING! This guy will put you to sleep, pretty much reads the text book in class. He does give study guides but it takes hours and hours to finish them. The map part of his tests are very hard. Seems to be a nice guy but the class requires a lot of effort.
He is so scatterbrained that it makes my head hurt. His tests are pretty hard, but he does give study guides. He is very unclear in his lectures, so I recommend reading a lot on your own.
One of the best professors I've had thus far. If you go to class, you get extra credit points. But you don't have to go to pass. Just study the study guide really well. All the answers are in the book and the notes. So easy!
A very good teacher. He thoroughly loves what he teaches and wants to get the rest of the class into it. I would highly recommend him. A very good guy, who is very helpful to his students.
My favorite professor ever! He is so friendly and very helpful! He provides very efficient study guides for each exam. His map sections are hard, but he is wonderful! I had a D in HIST 1010 and now have an A in HIST 1020!
I love Dr. Carter! He is a very interesting teacher, especially for a class at 8 in the morning. I barely made b's on my 1010 tests and I made a 101 on the first test in this class. I highly recommend him!!
I love Dr. Carter! He's a good teacher. The tests have fill in the blank and map, which sucks. But the map is the only hard part. I hate History, but I have a B is his class right now. Lectures are boring, but he's still good.
Dr. Carter is a nice man who is more than willing to help you if you need it. However, this class is so easy I doubt that most will be in jeopardy of failing. Study guides come out before each exam so study them and you should be fine. No atten. policy.
I love Dr. Carter- he is very enthusiastic and helpful. You can't mess around though, you must go to class and take notes.
Great teacher, easiest class I have ever taken. I don't read the book, don't take notes, and don't go to class, and my lowest test grade is a 98. Just know the study guide and you're golden. If you get the chance, take Carter!
Dr. Carter is the most enthusiastic professor ever. He really does know his facts, and goes out of his way to try to make it interesting to sudents. The study guides are quite helpful, but I would go to class. He's a very cool guy who does know his stuff.
Nice man and pretty funny. Really knows his history. Tests are not bad at all. Dosen't require attendance. This was by far the easiest college class I have had. Highly recommended.
Great teacher! I hate History, but I liked his class. He is very helpful and gives great studyguides. No SURPRISES on his test, if you study what he tells you, you will make an A.
I loved this class! After taking HIST 1010 last semester and struggling to make a B, this has really changed my mind about what I thought about history. I highly recommend him.
dr. carter's class rules, take it! if you use the study guides you will make an A, no problem. great guy and pretty funny, humorous ancedotes almost everyday. i hate history but i learned quite a bit b/c he is just that good.
Great Teacher! gives you a study guide that will get you an A if you use it.
Good teacher, but the map questions suck! If you learn every term on the study guide you will do fine. Do not buy U-Notes..they suck for this class! He is a really nice guy though..I just wish his tests were all multiple choice.
absolutly outstanding hes very easy and gives good lectures
Easy as it gets.
His class was great! I got an A and literally never went to class because all you have to do is learn the study guide he gives you before every test and you are good to go! GET HIM
He was pretty easy. Just know the study guides before each test. I would recommend going to class just for the bonus points, it was the difference between me getting an A and a B. Class is kinda boring to sit through though.
easy class but he is a ****, often tells jokes that he only laughs at but take this lame guy
He's really easy.I made an A and only studied a couple nights before the test.He gives great studyguides ~ 1week before the test. I the parts in the book about the key terms that were listed and didn't even read notes from class. Class is pretty boring.
Have had him twice, great guy. It is true that his classes are not hard, but this in no way takes away from the quality. Some of the best lectures I have heard. So far my all time favorite teacher at Auburn.
A joke to say the least. Gives out study guides the week before every test including the final that, if you study, you should make at least a B but more likely an A no sweat.
An easy A,take him if you can. It sucks sitting through his class, but worth it for bonus points. He's a bit scattered most of the time and gets behind schedule. Don't worry about notes or outlines, just know everything on study guide (info in book)!
BORING!!!!!!!! SO DRY!!!! Scattered and random, I don't recommend him...yea he gives study guides but they take forever to complete and you never know what random wording he will use on the test, and by the way the map...is ridiculous!
if i got a dollar for every time this man said ummmmm or uhhhh i would be rich. Very helpful. loves details he doesnt test on the details but loves to talk about details. If you take the time to fill out the outline you will get an A
took historians craft, senior thesis and civil rights with him, amazingly intelligent and helpful guy, brilliant lectures and great use of powerpoint, videos and music, highly recommend his civil rights class, he loves teaching it and it shows
He is a GREAT teacher, very entertaining and very helpful. I can't wait to take another class with him. Don't go through History at Auburn without having his class at least once.
BORING!!EXTREMELY BORING!!!! He gives study guides, which do help, if you take the 10 days it takes to fill them out! Just really hard to pay attention to.Not impossible by any means, just not a teacher I would ever want to have again! Auburn's history department is horrible! There are no good profs!
Extrememly Boring!!! Not as easy as some say either. Have to study and really understand the material. Wouldn't reccomend taking him.
had him for two courses last semester and going on numbers three and four. best and probably brightest at auburn.
One of Auburn's premiere teachers! Very down to earth and will help you with anything...he even help me find research material for another history class. Big on attendence, exams & quizzes are pretty tough, but if you read your cool. I rank him in my top three favorite history professors (Noe & Kicklighter are the other two).
I had him for 2 classes this past semester and it was actaully a lot of fun. You never knew what he was going to do next. Insanely smart guy though not so well organized or at getting grades back to students in a quick manner.
ALOT OF READING!!! but once you read all of it..its stuck in your head so basically all you need to do is a quick lookover before the exam. his reading quizzes are easy and help your grade so READ. Also you can only have 2 unexcused absences
Dr. Carter is insanely smart. His specialty is the 1960s/Civil Rights era, so he knows a lot about that time period. His tests come from the readings that he assigns so it is mandatory that you keep up. Sometimes he has the tendency to go off topic in class. He is extremely helpful, so if you are having problems go to him during office hours.
Wow, I really loved this class! Carter really knows his stuff, I wish I had him for all my history classes! There's a lot of reading involved and the tests are not too easy, but it's an extremely rewarding experience. And he makes the class hilarious! Take him!!
Wonderful professor. This class will change your life - eye-opening and rewarding. Go to him before writing a paper, he is really helpful.
Dr. Carter is hysterical! there is rarely a dull moment in class! there is a lot of reading, but it is usually interesting and as long as you read what is assigned you should do well on the exams! i wasnt really interested in Civil Rights prior to this class, but he made it relevant and interesting! so glad i took this class!
He is a very interesting person and easy to talk to during his office hours. He is absent-minded professor though. He discusses random things in class and takes forever to grade, but well worth taking.
Dr. Carter is definitely one of the better history teachers at Auburn. He makes class interesting and he actually makes you want to learn the history and do the reading. He can be random and all over the place at times, but if you're one of those people who knows a lot of useless facts you will be able to follow him.
Takes forever to return emails and return graded papers and provide feedback. Feels pointless to go to class as the prof. rambles on and on about irrelevant topics and stories.
Dr. Carter is an excellent professor with one exception. He take FOREVER to get back to you with graded material. In this class he actually had to let us get out of writing a paper because he was still grading the first one. If you don't mind slow grades though, you will learn a lot from him if you try.
Coolest teacher I have ever had. Completely scatter brained, and takes forever to return graded papers, but awesome nonetheless. One of the most funny, down to earth people I have ever met. I definitely recommend him
Coolest teacher I have ever had. Completely scatter brained, so don't expect your grades on time, or at all. If you're obsessed with grades don't take this class. If you're laid back looking for a cool teacher, this is the class for you.
He puts lecture slides up on canvas, and he provides a study guide for the tests. I always go to class, but most of the time I'm never paying that much attention. The tests are pretty easy if you do the study guide.
Dr. Carter is all over the place. I basically went to class but never listened because he's so random. But he's also super nice and the class is SO easy. Just go to the two SI test reviews prior to the test and read the study guides (which he basically fills out for you) and you'll be good. If you just want to get HIST1020 out of the way, take him!
Carter isn't good with time management. He assigns 10 page study guides days before the tests. The lectures are vague and the book will be your best friend. His study guides aren't that much helpful might as well just read the whole book!68
Not that hard of a class, only went to class before the first test. Ended up with a high B. AWFUL with assigning super long test study guides with too short of notice. Takes weeks to enter grades online, lectures are really boring and hard to follow, but Carter is funny. Low difficulty level makes it an okay class.
Class isn't bad overall, but don't get your hopes up on receiving exam grades, study guides/powerpoints, emails, ANYTHING on time. Study materials will be loaded to canvas super short notice and then exams (taken on scantron) take way too long to be graded. If you're okay with that though, buy a book and READ.
Carter's a really nice guy but he's and awful lecturer. I couldn't take notes in his class b/c he was all over the place. He also takes forever to post lectures online and he posts lengthy study guides about 2-3 days before the test. Basically I stopped going to class and just read the book and I made an A on all of my tests. Tests were very easy.
Dr. Carter is literally amazing. His lectures can be a little all over the place but as long as you follow along with the readings, you'll get an A. He gives extra credit on every test and nothing is cumulative. I would definitely take one of his classes again
Arguably the best professor I've had to date. He told us exactly what would be on the class and made a boring history class interesting. I enjoyed going.
read the textbook and go to class and you will definitely pass!! history is a hard subject but he is hilarious and makes it not so bad!! tests are super straight forward but definitely require studying! overall, one of the best options for this class!!!
gives lots of extra credit, study the book with the study guide next to you and its extremely easy, went to class twice besides test days
I have him now and love him! His class is one of my easier classes. I only show up a few times before a test, and most of the time don't even pay attention, yet still have not gotten below an A on any test. The key is using the study guide he puts online, looking at his outlines, and reading the book along with the study guide before a test.
4 Tests and 1 pretest. Cracks jokes during lectures and relates pop culture to history in a clear and funny way. Posts outlines, Powerpoints, & study guides on Canvas (not super punctual). Attendance nonmandatory, but helpful in final grade. Book not required in my opinion, but recommend getting InQuizitive (online book and study materials)
Dr. Carter is probably the best teacher I've had at Auburn. His lectures are entertaining and he's really funny. He really loves what he teaches and you can tell. Just be sure to study for his tests!!! Do the study guides and read the chapters. Do the online Inquizitive page because he takes a lot of test questions from there. He gives extra credit
He's funny but sometimes his lectures can get off track. He posts his lecture slides online to review. Read the textbook and study his powerpoints for tests because they tend to be pretty specific.
Dr Carter is passionate and interesting. However, he skips around a lot. Also, don't expect a reply to any emails at all. Ever. Study the book, go to class.
This class is SO BORING and Dr. Carter is very scatterbrained and spacey and I never really felt like he got to the "point" during his lectures. He would ramble and I never really knew what was going on. Mostly learned from the book. Maybe it was just History but I hated this class.
Dr. Carter is the GOAT! This class was extremely easy, all you have to do is look at the study guide the day before the tests and read the specific pages he tells you.
Rarely went to class and ended with a high B, all materials are online but has test questions that say "as I stressed in class..." so definitely go. 15% of your grade is online quizzes that are easy 100%. Also has bonus questions on every test, just talks a little fast for my pace
Easiest professor I have had at Auburn
His lectures were kind of scattered due to him being on meds all semester. I didn't put hardly any effort into the class and came out with a B. His 1st test is extremely easy, but don't let it fool you. Test 2 and Test 3 cover a lot of material and are a lot harder. A study guide is given for each test but isn't that helpful.
I quit going to lecture after the first test and still ended up with over a 100. Like everyone says, he is nice but his lectures are not the best. Study the book and the study guides he posts and you will do fine. Some of his questions come straight from the online quiz website that comes with the textbook and he always has bonus questions.
If you like to learn things in chronological order, this is not the class for you. He goes out of order and you never have anything straight but he says how important chronology is.
Dr. Carter is an amazing teacher. He really cares and is passionate about the material he teaches. He cares about his students. If you participate in class and email him with questions, it will definitely help improve your grade at the end of the semester. He is my favorite history professor at AU.
If you can't stay focused in class, this isn't the professor for you. He cracks many jokes, but a lot of the time he strays from what his slide is about in lecture. There is a benefit of going to class, because test questions sometimes say "as I stressed in class", but you will probably pass with a B if you stay at home and just read the textbook.
I think he is genuinely a kind guy, but he is very scatter brained and all over the place. hard to follow but not the worst. You could probably find a better professor but def not the worst. not an easy A AT ALL
This man waited to give us the guidelines for a paper he wants us to do until the week before finals. Hes been scatter-brained the entire semester and took a full month to get us the syllabus.
Okay, I don't know what these other people are talking about. This is the worst teacher in the history department. He gives you extremely detailed tests, a thousand things to read on canvas and in the books, and overall he is just scattered. He doesn't make eye-contact with anyone, probably because he knows what he is doing. Do not take him.
The class was already rocky as the lectures went all over the place. Once everyone got sent home, he waited 4 weeks before even sending us anything. Once he did, it was weekly exams, and a final included 2 full papers on top of the test. not to mention he gives out assignments 2 days before it was due. one of the papers was last second too!
I would have loved this class had it been more structured. The teacher was always unprepared and therefore could not prepare us. Test were super long and extremely hard to study for. He was unorganized and unstructured.
Before remote learning, it took him weeks to get the syllabus and he cancelled many classes. After the switch to online it got worse. We didnt hear from him for the first few weeks. He didnt email you back quickly, if at all. And he gave 2 days notice about what would be on our final, then made it so detailed. Hes nice but I wont take him again
Dr. Carter is a nice person, but this class was so unstructured. Over half of the assignments were never graded. We never knew what was going on because he was so unorganized.
Professor Carter along with the class is extremely unstructured. His lectures are all over the place and very hard to follow. There has been multiple occasions where he has not released the study guide until the night before the test and even then, the study guide was very unorganized and did not help at all. Would not take again ever!
Attendance isnt mandatory and isnt necessary to pass. I think the issue most people have with this class is that they expect to be able to pass the tests by simply showing up to lectures. Its simple, just read the text book, use the study guide, and reread the textbook. If you read the textbook its an easy A. If you dont, good luck
Dr. Carter really cares about his students. He curves all the tests and replaces your lowest grade with your highest (even if it is the final). I haven't gone to class in weeks and I have an A by reading the textbook the night before exams. He is really understanding about any kind of problems and wants to help in any way he can
Dr. Carter is so nice and really seemed to care about his students. If you show up to class and take notes you shouldn't have any problem making an A in the class. He also offers exam replacement with your highest test score.
I love Dr. Carter with all my heart. His lectures are funny and he truly cares about his students. I'd take this class again in a heartbeat. He gives plenty of bonus, and will tell you the answers to those bonus questions if you show up to class. He also curves exams, so don't worry. Inquizitives are the only homework. 10/10 professor!
Dr. Carter is a nice guy and his class is interesting. However, this was the most unorganized class I have ever taken. We didn't ever know when assignments were due. Over half of the assignments (including the final) were never graded.
As an aerospace engineering student, Dr. Carter has been such a breath of fresh air. His lectures are always interesting and you can tell he's passionate about what he teaches. His tests are almost always based on lectures and he scales (A lot) 86->103. He's a genuine guy and 10/10 would take another course of his even if it was not required.
Dr. Carter was a great guy, but very unstructured. We had an exam that took a month to get back, then our second exam and final were open notes, text, and web. Our paper was never graded. Super great guy, just not the class for you if you're super into structure and knowing exactly when things are due
He is by far the most scatter-brained and disorganized prof I have had in three years. His class was a breeze though since he made basically everything open book due to him missing class deadlines. Course was supposed to go to the present but we never got out of the 60s. He rambled a lot but paying attention in lecture/reading made this class easy
Dr. Carter is nice but has no organization skills and acts like it's an inconvenience to do his job. He is always late for class, pushed an exam back 3 weeks (although told us every class period he would give it out during the next class), and has never responded to an email. The class isn't too hard, just do the homework and pay attention in class
Dr. Carter is such a nice guy. But he is so scatterbrained it can drive you crazy. It's about impossible to fail his class because he will give you a ton of extra credit because he never grades anything on time. He's actually pretty interesting and you will learn something. Definitely take Dr. Carter it's an easy A if you turn everything in.
I had Dr. Carter for HIST 3080 and he is by far one of the best professor at Auburn. He is very cool and if you miss a quiz or homework, etc, he works with you so you will get a good grade. He is great at responding to emails too. Just an overall cool guy. If you have the chance to take him, do it!
Read the textbook and do study guides. Lectures are filled with digressions focused on the professor's interest instead of the material that will be covered on the test. I would recommend using your lecture time to read the textbook instead of going to the class. If you read and do the study guide it's an easy A.
We are almost done with the semester and no syllabus has been posted. He is nice and funny, but it's so hard to pay attention to the material. READ THE BOOK!! The tests were extremely difficult for me and focused on minute details.
he is a really good person and really cares about his students. he gives study guides for tests but make sure to read textbook too. sometimes his lectures get a little off topic so i stopped going to class because the information was all over the place but overall he is a pretty good teacher
Easiest professor and class ever. I never attended one lecture and got an A in the class. If you read the study guide and study all the material on there, you will do very good on the tests. I recommend this this professor!
I did not enjoy his class. In the lectures he gets off topic sometimes and talks about another topic that will not be on the test. READ THE TEXTBOOK! The Inquizitive assignments will not help you study they are overcomplicated! If you attend lectures and use the study guide as a source then refer to the textbook you will be fine!
Really nice guy. Tests are most of your grade so make sure to study a lot for them as the questions can be tricky. I never attended lectures but studied a lot for each test and ended with an A.
Professor Carter was an amazing professor who did what he could to assist those who tried in his course. He would drop hints in his lectures on what should be studied and gave two points extra credit overall to the grade for completing a simple assignment. He did tend to go on tangents, but they were always interesting.
Literally first time I use this website and I'd only do it for Dr, Carter. His lectures are fun and entertaining, and as long as you take the practice exam with the SI before the actual exams you'll 100% get an A. Live laugh Dr. Carter
He's a very nice and funny professor, but his exams are impossible to study for. Attending the SI sessions will help, but don't rely on them for the exam. The study guides just have the topics that you need to know but not specifically what from the topics or chapters. The only way can get an A in the class is if you just memorize the textbook.
He's a good professor. You're really only graded on the tests, but the questions are pretty straight forward. Everything on the test is covered in lectures, and he gives study guides as well. Sometimes he'll ramble a bit, but he throws in funny stories which are always great. There is a textbook but you don't really need/use it for this class.
Great guy! Your grade is determined by 3 exams and a final. You also have to complete study questions through an anline website, which maybe took 30 minutes to complete and will help you on exams. I stopped going to class because he got off topic a lot in lectures, but still studied the material he posted and made an A in the class.
Super nice and easy professor who cares about what he is teaching. He is however, super scatterbrained. Our class was from 1929 to the present, and we never got out of the 1960s.
This professor clearly cares a lot about his students. While he tends to ramble a lot and his lectures can drag, he does make learning the subject interesting and is fun to listen to at times. I would recommend attending SI sessions when possible since they certainly improved my grade. There is a textbook for the class, but it's not necessary.
Professor Carter was great and it was a very basic class. SI sessions will be your best friend because the practice tests created have questions directly on the exam. He also puts Inquisitive questions on the exam which makes the class easy to study for. All of his lectures are posted and you can tell he truly cares about what he is teaching you.
Professor Carter is a caring instructor who makes the class enjoyable. While lectures can veer off-topic at times, the study guides provide a great resource. I found Unstuck ai and the textbook to be vital for exam prep. Overall, an engaging class worth taking.
I loved Dr. Carter. I studied the day before every test and usually did other homework during class and listened to him while working. His tests come directly from the lectures and flashcards that he gives as a reference in the textbook. Doesn't make you memorize dates and gives bonus questions on every test! 10/10 take him if you can!
Dr. Carter, while knowledgeable about the topic, cannot teach. The lectures were inconsistent with the material, and he constantly rambled. All of his exams and quizzes get pushed back because he refuses to grade anything, and he never posts a syllabus. If you want an easy A, take him. If you want to get something out of it, avoid him at all costs
Dr. Carter was an awesome guy, but not the best lecturer. You will most likely need to learn the info from the slides on your own. InQuizitive got annoying, but the points it provided were helpful. Having some background knowledge about general history will serve you well.
Good professor, he is just not super organized so if you're type A it will get frustrating! Outlined a ton of quizzes, books, & exams in syllabus, but most deadlines got pushed back/completely eliminated. Not much work in the class, but the few things he does grade, do the work! He's also really nice and very understanding with absences/late work!
Pushes deadlines back and is incredibly disorganized. He eliminated 3 of our assignments this semester and took almost two months to grade our first exam. Attendance is mandatory which is bold considering he clearly doesn't respect his our time. Exams were online & open web - you'll learn nothing. Type A people - run, you'll be crazy by midterms.
Good professor! Class isn't mandatory but it is good to be there because he says specific things that will be on the test. There are annoying Inquizitive assignments but they really help your grade.
I only went for the exams, like I did not go to a single class, and ended with an A. I did have to study very hard, but I obviously did that to myself. I have heard that history teachers at Auburn are super hard, but he definitely wasn't. You just need to read the textbook, do the homework, and look at the study guide given, and you will be fine.
Took him for an American history class. He's incredibly knowledgable and loves what he teaches. He didn't even look at slides or notes for his lectures, he just knew everything. He does tend to talk a lot but in a good way since he goes in depth on more obscure topics in history. He's not a tough grader at all either. Highly recommend taking him.
The inquizitive assignments were time-consuming, but Dr. Carter gave us many resources to study. The slides were a helpful tool alongside the study guides he provided. Our SI was very helpful with study material, and Dr. Carter would sometimes pull from that question bank for the exams. If you put in the time and effort, you will do well.
Good teacher. Tests arent super easy but definitely can make an A if you study and read the textbook. Don't HAVE to attend class but would recommend
Attendance not mandatory. He posts every slide and the study guide is exactly the test. Easily you could pass without going to lectures.
