Excellent teacher! Very understanding and helpful. Easy to talk to and goes out of his way to help student. Wish he taught more chemistry classes.
GREAT teacher! I was so scared to take this class, and he made it understandable (for the most part!). It is hard, for sure, but he goes out of his way to help. Highly recommend!
He was a great teacher. I would love have taken him for Gen Chem II, but he didn't teach it. He really makes you understand and won't stop until you do. Chemistry is hard, and he won't move on until you understand it totally.
Very fun and outgoing personality wise. I was so scared to be taking Chemistry but he totally put me at ease. He is very understanding and patient and will wait if you're not getting something.
This guy is great! I have never been good at science and he just totally put me at ease! He is very funny and light-hearted and keeps class rolling with jokes. He was always willing to stop and explain something and he is very good with working with students who have missed. (me)
I really enjoyed having this teacher. This teacher is a role model for others and it's true what everyone else has said. He will help you whenever you need it and makes the course interesting and understandable. He only teaches you what he thinks you should know so the workload is light. Highly recommend him. You won't regret it.
This class is easy because he gives you a review before the test. He even grades with 5pts for right answers and only 3 for wrong....somehow people still manage to fail them. i made an easy A and i hardly ever attended class
Very easy class. He makes sure you understand everything.
Great instructor. To the point, humorous, made lab enjoyable and easy to comprehend.
He was so nice and understanding. He made sure you knew what to expect on the tests, and he even dropped the lowest test grade! I would definately take him again (wish I took him for chem lab :-/)
Mr. C is great, he helps you out in every way. pay attention in lecture and you will do fine. he drops lowest test. he makes the topics very easy to understand and will help you anytime you need it. i am very happy with him and i am taking him for chem ii
I loved this class, especially the way Mr. Casanove teaches. He makes Chemistry seem pretty interesting which is a job all in itself. I can't wait to take CHEM 1302 with him, see you next semester sir!
by far the best chemistry professor, he speaks in chemistry where it is logical to the non-chemist.
very down to earth, very helpful, also tutored chem student not belonging in his chem classes, what does that tell you?
Awesome Instructor! Material is tough but he works hard to make it understandable. Very kind and understanding man. Loves his students and will do everything he can to help you pass. All you have to do is show up, study and do your best. Tests are verbatem to his lectures. If you need a science class, I highly recommend David. Good Luck.
Awesome teacher, he goes out of his way to make sure students understand all concepts. sign up early his classes fill up fast.
He is a great teacher. I hate chemistry and he made the class fun while actually teaching in a way that everyone could understand the material. He's a really great teacher. Highly recommend if you aren't good at chem, he'll find a way to teach you.
Took him for General Chem 1. I agree with all the recent posts. He has a passion for the subject and truly cares for his students. Understands that you have a life outside his class. Always joking, tests are hard & you need to study! Lowest test grade dropped, most tests are curved. If you put in the effort, he will meet you half way!
Mr. Casanova is one of the best instructors I've ever had. He's funny and extremely easy going. He's also there for students when they need him. His teaching materials are very easy to understand.Always tries to make the materials fun for students. He does curves on test grades.Drop the lowest score.Number 1 instructor!
Caught my attention from the first day. Hilarious and makes you want to learn. Makes great presentations and is very repsectful. Tests can be a little harder than thought, but they are curved and the lowest dropped. One of the best instructors I have ever had in 90 credit hours(for lab too!)!
Outstanding teacher, i hate chem and he made it very easy to learn and understand.Very funny and very lenient. Warning:Tests are hard! but if you study it will be easy. He is around for tutoring most of the time though. Drops lowest test grade.
He is great. His tests are hard, but if you work hard you'll be fine. He expects alot out of his students, but his lecture is interesting and fun and he is easy to approach. Register for him early cause his class fills up FAST. (within hours)
He is the best Chemistry teacher in this school, he has an excellent sense of humor and he is a great DJ. Willing to go overtime helping students that are in need of help or tutoring. He also supports break-dancers.
He is a good teacher, but is lazy in grading. For the final, he had each classmate grade another classmates paper. What happen to confindentiality? That is just plain lazy on his part...
Casanova is awesome! His lectures are easy to follow and his sense of humor made it much more enjoyable than I thought it would be. His tests are pretty easy if you just study the review hard and pay attention in class.
He is the greatest teacher. There is no reason at all to fail his final, therefore it shouldnt matter what you make you shouldnt be embarrassed of it, even if another student grades it. Get over it. He was very helpful thru out the semester he helped me alot, when I had alot of personal things going on in my life. I wish he was teaching chem 2.
He is a great techer. He does his best to help his students pass and understand everything.
I took him for 1311 and the 1111 lab. He is easy and makes it fun but when you go on to 1312 and 1112 it is not work the ease. Not explained well enough to remember it for the harder classes like o.chem.
He is a very good teacher, making everything interesting. Chemistry is my major to begin with, however he was very entertaining.
Professor Casanova is one of the best teachers I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. I took him for into to chem at UTSA, Chem I and II and NWV. I hated Chemistry before him and he made it so easy for me to understand. He helps students more than any professor and as long as you try & go to class you should do well.
I took him for Gen ChemI. He's by far the best chemistry teacher I've ever had. EVER. He's really down to earth & explains things in lay man's terms. Easy to approach. Super helpful. His test are kind of hard though. I've heard his Gen Chem II class is out of control (aka. hard).
Casanova is awesome!! Take him if u can. Really cares about his students. As long as u put in the work it will reflect on ur grade. Test are somewhat hard but he has an awesom curve. I would def. take him for chem 2
There is a reason his classes fill up on registration day. Dr. Casanova will bend over backward to help you lean chemistry. His lectures are always interesting and keeps the classes attention. He is able to deliver the course material in a way that you will understand and retain.
I had Mr. Casanova for Gen Chem 1 & 2. I can definitely recommend him. His lectures are easy to sit through. He did move much faster in gen chem 2, but it wasn't that bad. Just stay on top of it. I felt he had too much on his plate, though, with all the classes he had. Just keep bugging him!
Good teacher overall. Homework was not mandatory. He had 4 tests total, which were hard. He did give reviews however he never got them up when he said he would. The reviews were 60% helpful. I studied 4 hours every day & managed an A. I would not take him if you want to BS this class because you will not do well on the tests.
Great Professor
Great lectures. Scatter brain outside of class. The homework assigned was from the last edition of the book! He was late getting anything done. He gives almost no extra credit or other ways to improve your grade. I got a A by really paying attention in class and studying those notes.
Pay attention and study for your test and you will do fine. Need to maintain a good GPA this is the professor for you. Excellent professor because he cares. You cannot fail this course. I have an A while maintaining 13 other credit hours! Will definatly sign up for his 1307 and Lab!!
Overall great teacher. I had his class at 8am and he kept the class awake with his cheesy jokes. If you want an A in his course you have to be there everyday and actually pay attention and study real hard because his tests are extremely difficult.
Great professor. Homework but lets you take your time doing it. Tests are online. He is funny and teachers very clear, helps you understand. Will take him for my next chem class!!
There is a lot of homework but you have as much time as you need to do it. He beats a dead horse until absolutely everyone knows what they are doing, it hard but you will earn your A at the end. TAKE HIM YOU WON"T REGRET IT.
He explains everything very clear, tons of homework, and not credit at all.
general chem and the problems seems geared for rocket scientist. harder than any problem in any general chem book. I wanted to drop but missed the census date. Good luck if u choose this class. I've taken this class b4 with other prof and not as dificult.
hard homeworks, but u get a long time to finish it.easier tests n quizzes. Dont be intimidated by the HW and stick to the end...you will be surprize. very flexible proff. God bless him.
This is THE chemistry professor to take. He makes chemistry fun and easy to understand. I was initially terrified of chemistry math. After taking Mr. Casanova's class, I feel like math is a breeze.
Mr. Casanova is a very caring, sincere, and understanding professor.
Nice Man, really wants you to succeed. He is available for questions, he texts back within a reasonable amount of time.
I took Cassanova's Intro to Chem in summer 2011. It was a blast! I was scared to death of chemistry but he made it comeplety fun and easy to understand. I made an A in lab and lecture. He is hilarious! And he will explain everything until the whole class understands. I was actually sad when the class ended. BEST prof I've ever had.
Good teacher very patient, great personality. He is available for his students. Lots of homework, but you have ample time to do them. Tests and quizzes are hard. Must pay attention and study notes.
Awesome professor. Chem is not my strength but Mr Casanova made it easy to understand. This class is very manageable and Mr. Casanova is available almost all the time for questions and tutoring. If science is not your thing but you need the credit TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
Great teacher! He goes over the material so you understand and willing to help.
Don't take Professor Casanova if you tend to procrastinate. He doesn't impose strict deadlines when it comes to turning in your homework assignments, as well as online tests and quizzes. The only in-class test you take is your final and it's 25% of your overall grade. Otherwise, this professor is easy going, funny and and always willing to help.
Extremely hard tests with no preparation, notes, power points or exam reviews. Nice person though.
BEST. PROFESSOR. EVER. He isn't easy, but he cares and wants you to understand everything. Hilarious man! Quizzes and Tests are online and he expects you to use all resources. The final is in class. Assignments and labs have flexible schedule. Would take him for every class I have to take, but he only teaches chemistry. :( Mr.C is amazing!
Casanova was a great teacher, he did let you learn self discipline. If you kept up with the hmwrk, you were good. He collected the hmwrk at the end of the class and his tests were online. He made the class fun and exciting. To get an A, just go over the slides. Hmwrk was from the book, but his lectures were over power points. I would take him again
Best professor at NVC, hands down! He makes the subject crystal clear, but chem II is hard, no doubt. Had him for lecture and lab and he is outstanding in both. Stay away from SAC for this course if you really want to learn the material! Don't think you can just slide by. But if you are willing to put in the work he is there for you 100 percent!
He is super awesome. One of the best in teaching chemistry. His work can be hard but he is always willing to help. I am def taking him for chemistry 2.
Professor Casanova is definitely one of the best chemistry professors, he really know how to keep you entertained during his lecture and he really knows how to teach and make you learn. Overall great professor and he's always there to help you, you just need to ask.
This is the best professor to have for Chemistry...hands down! He is above and beyond helpful. We had all quizzes and exams online which means you can use use your notes! He even drops the lowest grade for everything including hw! Final is in class of course, but you can use a note card. Attendance is important. Book is not required! Received a B!
Content is a little hard , need to practice if u want pass . He also gives u second chances on quizzes. Over all course is great .
EASY EASY EASY. Goes off on way too many tangents for smarter more applied students. If you want an easy A or B he IS your guy. I didn't learn much from his class but got an A. If you are a Pre-Med student I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM!
I'm a pre-nursing student who has been out of school for years. Mr. C made Chem fun to learn. His instructions were clear and he is very helpful. I definitely learned in his class. He truly knows Chemistry, is passionate about his career, and cares about the success of his students. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!!!!
He does do a good job on making lectures as easy as possible to understand. He does curse a lot which I find very unprofessional and vulgar. He does give you time to turn in hw.Another bad thing is that he tends to take a long time to return hw, & his tests/quizzes are hard and most of the time irevelant to what he shows in class
Casanova is wonderful! Chemistry is a hard subject but he cares if you understand and is always more than willing to help. I took him for lab, wish I also took him for the lecture because he is great at explaining the content and I had a hard time in lecture. He is funny and makes class as interesting as he can. Definitely recommend this guy!
Great teacher! Chemistry is a very hard subject.. study your notes and you'll be fine, he does NOT put all of his exams online any more, so if you are choosing him because of that, you are out of luck..
casanova is a good teacher that isnt too hard or boring in class. Most of his tests are just like his homeworks which are like the reviews and he will help you whenever you need it
Fun easy going man. Took his time to explain whatever hung up the class. Only issue is that it put the class behind all the other classes (esp if taking a different lab w/ other instructor) Got an A but feel I did not deserve it because grading was too lenient. In the real world/unvi they will not baby you. So make sure you know your stuff
Prof Casanova should get a 10 out of 5 for Helpfulness. Chemistry can get a bit tough at times, but he ALWAYS makes himself available. He even came in on days we didn't have class to go over any questions we had. He genuinely loves chemistry. The only thing he loves more is his students. With hard work you can get easily get an A in his class.
Awesome teacher, willing to go above and beyond what is required of teachers. He is always available to answer questions. He gives you every opportunity to pass. Do homework, show up to class, takes notes and you will pass his tests. He is very passionate about chemistry and makes you want to learn.
Amazing professor! I learned more in his 1 hour lab class than in my 3 hour lecture with a different professor. He really understands that chemistry is hard subject, and he does not sweat the small stuff. Would take again 100%!
Perfection! All chemistry teachers should teach like this guy! He teaches it until you get it! His tests are hard BUT gives enough other work to average your final grade high. He is funny and knows how to teach! I will take him for Chem 2! I really wish I took him for Chem 1!
He knows how to teach and has a passion for helping all of his students. He is a person that is kind hearted and highly intellectual. The fallback is he teaches so everyone can learn and at the end of the semester has to zip through the rest of the chapters.
One of the best profs I've ever had! He makes his class so interesting and impossible to fail! He teaches each chapter slowly and always makes sure everyone understand the material. We had 1 test online and 3 quizzes online which we could attempt more than once. I wish I could of taken more classes with him, it was a great experience.
Great teacher, keeps class fun, but the quizzes are way harder than the homework or tests. He drops lowest grades in everything. Overall great teacher, learned a lot.
Took him for lab, he was awesome. Very clear on how to do the labs, very helpful if you didn't understand something. Great professor, wish he taught chem 1307 lecture. An A is very easy. Final exam is a little tough.
He cares so much & always ensures that nobody gets left behind. He breaks everything down so that students new to chemistry won't be confused, & gives a quick run-through of the lab before everyone begins. Mr Casanova is who you want to take if you feel like you're going to drown in chemistry. He'll throw you a life vest and show you how to use it.
He's the best. Very caring and always willing to listen.
Good at explaining the material and breaking it down. The weekly worksheets help as study tools when it comes to studying for the exam. He's very understanding and wants to see you pass. First professor I've had that made chemistry enjoyable. His lecture is early but WORTH IT. He lets you have a cheat sheet for the final so make it the best you can
Mr. Casanova is an awesome professor! He is always willing to help, and gives you a ton of homework to study for test. His class is not easy, but if you put the effort and come to class and read the material prior you would be successful and get your A. I highly recommend! And ask questions and he would be willing to help you!
You have about 7 assignments throughout the semester kinda like homework. Every 3 of them you have a test over. Pretty clear cut. Just do the assignments and you'll pass the tests. He also has online quizzes that has material from the assignments. I would take again
Casanova is one of the smartest funniest professor I've ever seen in my life ... He is not just a teacher but a great dad for all students. His sense of humor makes you love the class and never feel boring ... He gives you a lot of stuff to do to kind of help you learn and average your grade. He is awesome I got him for both Gen Chem I &II.
Tests are open-ended, extremely hard, and you get to use no note cardsformula sheet.
In Mr. Casanova's course you will be given six assignments, four online quizzes, and three exams; two of which are in-class and the third on is online. You are given one opportunity to retake quizzes. Each one of your assignments will act as a review study guide for exams. Study the quizzes and assignments, and you should def. pass the exams.
Casanova is very unorganized. He never posted grades online, and because of that, you couldn't know your status in the course. You could go ask him, but he would take forever to get back to you with the result of your average regardless. It was also impossible to get a hold of him over email and he took forever to grade exams. Two or three weeks!
He does not post grades online, so you will never know of your progress throughout the semester. He is unorganized and takes FOREVER to grade anything. He never answers emails. The class is chill, except when it comes time for final. The finals are very difficult. This class will stress you out big time!
Nice guy, but he never kept us up to date on our grades. That made me so frustrated. He never responded to emails and if you went to his office he always had a room full of students. It was so stressful just trying to figure out what grade I had in the course. He is unorganized with everything.
Great guy! I came from UTSA to take him for summer class and he really knows his stuff. He try to help everyone out. He doesn't put his grade online, but it's pretty easy to make an A on everything. I had intro to Chem at UTSA so I understood the material a little bit more, but if you apply yourself, it's a breeze.
Mr Casanova is without doubt one of the best instructors I ever had. I took him for gen chem 1 & 2, and highly recommend him. You really learn a lot in his lectures, but if you ever get confused all you have to do is ask questions and he will help you understand. He is clear about what to expect on tests. He's always willing to help students.
I took him for summer there was a lot of homework of course which is what i expected. However, his lectures were all over the place it was hard to understand what he was doing because his math and the way of showing things was scattered.
Casanova is a very laid back professor, is not strict on due dates. His tests and online quizzes are tough. The class average for the first test was in the 60s but don't worry, it's "normal". If you keep up with the work, study, ask questions, and go to office hours you will be fine. Chemistry is hard but Casanova makes it fun and entertaining!
Never met a teacher who was willing to take extra time, sometimes more than an hour to help students after class who were struggling. Class was not easy, tests were hard. But Casanova is a very forgiving grader, and drops the lowest assignment, quiz, and test scores. He always finds a way to get the best out of you. Great teacher, amazing person.
Sweet instructor but gets off topic easily during class. If you are not moving on to upper level chemistry classes, definitely take him. If you are going to take organic or biochemistry in the future, I'd recommend taking a different instructor because you will NOT be prepared for the demanding course work in upper level classes.
Super easy and a great way to learn. We had to turn in lab each week. 1 lab write up and 1 test. (Final exam) He gives you a review. It's exactly like the test. There is no way you could fail. Easy grader too. Obviously I'm not an English major so my spelling and grammar is not perfect, and he understands that when writing the paper... Easy grader.
He is a nice guy. However, grades are never posted. The study guides did not help at all with the quizzes or exams. He does allow you to use the charts and a cheat sheet. But the exam questions are confusing and make no sense at times. half the class failed the first exam, the ones that did pass, were repeat students that failed the course.
Prof. Casanova is honestly one of the best professors at Vista. When you need help, he's there for you, and he relates chemistry into your daily life, so it's so much easier for you to understand. His labs are fun and totally worth it. Definitely recommend taking him!
He's makes chemistry so much easier than it is. He really breaks down the class.
Mr. Casanova is a very friendly teacher that really wants his students to do good and succeed. Anytime you need help, he will welcome you to his office. Plus, he drops the lowest assignment, quiz, and exam. The exams are not easy, but they are curved. He also relates Chemistry to real-life to help students better understand the course material.
Mr. Casanova truly cares about his students' future. He will give you homework, quizzes, and tests but he is available if you have any questions. It's impossible to teach everything you need to know about Chem in the short class time we are given, so pay attention in class, and don't fall behind. Chemistry is a difficult subject to begin with.
I love this professor! I took gen chem 1 and lab, and next semester I'm gonna take gen chem 2. Total 4 tests: 2 in class, 1 online and final. He let use cheat sheet at final where you can put anything. Quizzes all online. Also, you have homework assignments which are review for test! Really easy if you study!
The best professor ever! He's super funny, so sarcastic and loves teaching. He cares about your grade only if you do. Unfortunately i have to take his class again since i had a lot of other things that distracted me.
Mr Casanova was for sure one of the best instructors I've ever had. He really cares about his students and is hilarious. His lectures are very easy to understand and the packets are not that hard to do. I recommend him to everyone here at north west vista.
Best choice for Chem 1 & 2. TAKE HIM FOR LAB TOO. very good at explaining concepts. take him if you have trouble with chem. Only problem is that he bases grades off of 2 tests, 3Q, and 4 assignment & final. He drops the lowest test, Q, and assignment. Tests are hard, and he doesn't curve, and its the majority of your grade. Don't slack off.
This is a professor who cares about the well-being of his students and their academic success. He's a straight-shooter and tells you exactly what will be on the quizzes/tests. Study what he tells you to study- plain and simple. He's hilarious and plays some rad tunes in class. Would take him again!!
hes super cool. he cusses in class, asks open ended questions and even goes as far as giving everyone his PERSONAL cell at the beginning of class. i took him for chem 2 in the summer- if youre not strong w math DONT TAKE THIS COURSE in the SUMMER! its math heavy! he gives online quizzes that help your grade and will answer any hw question you ask.
Prof Casanova gives students everything they need to accomplish an A in this course - their level of commitment and effort will determine the outcome. Chemistry is not an easy subject but he makes it very possible to be successful.
Professor Casanova was one of the best teachers I had at northwest vista, he's super chill and always talks to you like you are one of his friends. Love his jokes, he always tries to make things funny and understandable and always helps you with your work if you have any questions. I would definitely take him again.
This class is kind of easy if you paid any attention in high school chemistry. Just pay attention to the lectures and take good notes and you're golden. Textbook is optional which is rad. Casanova tells really bad jokes a lot. There are homework assignments for each chapter and tests after every three or four chapters.
A very nice professor of chemistry. The quizzes and homework (worth like 40% together) are not really similar to the exams, so do not rely solely on those materials to prepare.
Super funny guy, will always help outside of class in his office. Make sure you understand the homework packets and quizzes because similar questions are on the test. 1st test is the easiest so make sure to study to start off with a high grade. 2nd test is is over many chapters(The hardest test). The 3rd test is online(take home) still difficult.
Every lecture has a PowerPoint, the exams are half assignments and quizzes, half random shijt you've never seen in class. So get supplemental texts.
I loved chem 1, but this semester, casanova has made it a bit more difficult to. All around great man who has heart and jokes, but seems as though he doesn't about teaching anymore. Very clear with explaining concepts, but does not go over math so much. Be ready to teach yourself the math through videos or help from others!!!
Casanova is GREAT! There are homework packets that are given for each chapter (you must print it out yourself) and the first exam is basically everything that the homework covered. The second exam covers many chapters and, in my opinion, was the hardest exam. Do the homework and try your best. He accepts late work and gives full credit for it.
Best Professor in terms of simplifying and patience. I am not the brightest box in the crayon but Professor Casanova took the time to break it all down for all of us who were struggling. Chemistry can suck if the professor isn't compatible with how you learn. I am slow, Casanova has patience and can simplify, it is a match made in learning heaven.
Professor Casanova is a life saver for students who struggle with chemistry. He literally breaks down topics for the class to comprehend everything. There should be no reason why you can't pass this class with at least a B average. He's super lenient on due dates of all quizzes and HW.
Super patient with his students, the class is not an easy class though. You have to really study and work for your grade. He's extremely fair when it comes to almost anything but you wont pass unless you do your part!
Truly an amazing Chemistry teacher, really takes the time to make sure you understand the material. If you are having problems & come to his office hours, he makes sure to break down everything you are struggling over. He's very lenient on late work and won't count off. Only complaint was that his final was completely different than what he claimed
If you're the type of student that needs to check your grade every day, don't take him because he doesn't input grades. The course is VERY math heavy and is very difficult. However, don't assume that if you're bad at math you won't pass, he does drop the lowest test and the lowest assignment.
This could be the easiest or the hardiest lab you ever take. It depends on your lab partners. You will have a new lab that you will need to do and you have to do the pre-lab before every class. The good news is that he doesn't care about due dates just if you have a busy schedule, you don't want to fall behind.
Professor Casanova is one of the best professors that I have had in my educational career. Working a full time job and taking a class as challenging Chem 2 Lecture and Lab, he made learning the material easy to follow and was very open to questions. This class will require hard work, organization, and studying if you want to achieve a high grade.
The best Chemistry Professor, just take him!
lenient grader; as long as you show up to class and give a little effort, you will get a good grade. Would recommend if you just have to get through general chemistry (aka bio major), not if you intend to major in chemistry or have to go on to organic chemistry. If you are a chem major, take a tougher professor, you will have a better foundation.
He is a really nice guy, and a lenient grader; but honestly, I get completely lost during each lecture. I don't feel like he explains the concepts or problems very well, so I'm constantly struggling. Luckily he is a lenient grader or I'd have a worse grade.
Mr. Casanova is the BEST Chem professor for this class I HIGHLY recommend you take him, He's very funny but you have to put in work for his class and he let's you turn in late homework.
TBH, I'm really surprised he has such a good rating. While a really nice guy, he's just not that great of a professor. He does not explain the subject well enough, which is prob why he's so lenient with grading. Although I'm passing with an A, I know I do not have a good foundation for O-Chem.
So many people recommended him, but he is the worst teacher ever. Yes, he's lenient. Yeah, he curves exams. But he has a terrible teaching style. He goes off on existential tangents that have nothing to do with chem. You walk out of class even more confused. He takes FOREVER to grade homework and exams. Don't be fooled!! Take someone else.
Honestly he is a nice guy yes, he is very cool. But he is not good at teaching the material. He goes too fast and looses people left and right. When you ask him for help he says look at YouTube videos and pretty much leaves it for you to figure out yourself. Would not take. With-drawled from his class because did not like his teaching.
He is awesome! Understands that we all have lives, jobs, and children. Can turn in Labs late and does not take off points. Very easy to talk with. I was terrified of taking a lab, I had nothing to worry about with him. Show up, do the lab with your group and turn it in. You will do fine. For final he allows you to take 1 sheet front and back.
He do not use a textbook so show up or you probably wont pass. Lectures are very critical because of the way he explains things is very different. Has online quizzes and assignments to be turn into him. He will allow you to turn in late with no points taken off. He is great! Take him if you are not good and math or chem!
He is a nice professor but his grading is based off of "points" and I got a C because of it. Its hard to pass with an A unless you really understand what's going on. It was a waste of time to take his class because I felt that the work I put in wasn't enough.
Accepts late work & is around during office hours. Mr. Casanova himself is easy going so dont be fooled - he makes his class, imo, needlessly difficult. His grading criteria isnt clear & his exams are designed in a way where it is nearly impossible to actually finish them, you're rushing to finish so you dont have time to give ?'s much thought.
In terms of how he taught the class I just wasnt a fan of it. Its very fast paced, and was just all over the place. Do good on the first exam, the 2nd one is the hardest and the 3rd is online and isnt that hard. HW and quizzes can be turned in whenever throughout the semester so just make sure you dont leave it till the last second.
I had Casanova for lab and it was really easy. Weekly lab report was informal coming from a workbook. Goes over the pre lab and gives answers at the beginning of lab so don't sweat if you don't finish it before. Will accept late work with no penalty but will pile up on you if you don't keep up. Final exam is long but allows a cheat sheet. Take him!
I took chem 2 lab over the summer having taken chem 2 lecture 2 years ago and I was terrified that I had forgetten all the material and would fail the lab. But, I have to say Mr C. is like a saint, he explained very well all the concepts and math needed to complete the post-labs and had resources on canvas to guide us. He is a very kind person.
I don't even know where to start. I wish there were more professors like Casanova. This man genuinely cares for each & every one of his students. He's very well respected. He gives so many resources & opportunities to help boost your grade. His sense of humor is quite interesting as well. Hardly feels like a lecture, he is an amazing professor.
Honestly couldnt have found a better chemistry professor! If you have the chance to take his class you wont regret it !!! Ive taken him for both general chemistry 1&2 !! He definitely cares about his students learning the information through a fun way!
I WOULD NEVER TAKE HIM AGAIN. Talks about nonsense the entire time.
Great professor in my opinion. He is easy to understand, does not go to the extreme with math problems. He uses real-life scenarios as examples to his teaching criteria. Attendance is not mandatory but he does give free grades for it. I took his lecture during the pandemic and he did not give an overwhelming amount of work.
Chem over zoom with Mr C is frustrating. He is very disorganized and doesn't provide much study material. The majority of the D&K HW aren't relevant to the lecture material and waste your time. He curves exam grades. We wasted too much time learning exam 2 material so we ended up having to take the 3rd exam on our own time during finals week.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I do not know why he gets so many good reviews. 1. Does not give a review for his exams, exam averages were 68, 60, 70, and 60. 2. Will not respond to anything you send him. 3. Cancels tutoring hours often and 4. Takes forever to grade. You truly won't know where you stand until the final grades are inputted.
Extra time to complete assignments, has office hours available to explain anything that hasn't been understood in further detail. BUT, he veers off topic during lectures and makes the already hard material even harder, doesn't put in MOST grades until you can't submit assignments in anymore (past the end of the semester), makes exams way too hard.
This class was the absolute worse. He waited until the very last minute to give us our grade in the class, you do not know where you stand the whole entire semester never taking him ever again.
Hes a great human being for sure but chemistry 2 is hard! And he makes it university hard use lockdown browser for exams with the web cam on!!
One of the best teachers that you can take for chemistry. He will take the time to go one on one with you after class and always makes sure that you understand what is happening before you move on. He can be a little disorganized, but who isn't in a crazy time like this?
Took him for Gen 1&2. He is a really nice guy and doesn't make exams insanely hard but is not the most organized which is the main thing. If you put in the work and keep yourself organized it won't be too difficult to pass in my experience. The HW is minimal but time consuming. He always does what he can to help you if you go to office hours.
Took him for Gen2 lec & lab. He's a kind and understanding professor. Of course you should be reading the Openstax chapters alongside his lectures and studying outside of class. You have plenty of resources and has very forgiving due dates/late work policy. The lab final exam review is always available.
Mr. C is Awesome Zoom Class Spent class going over lab assignments, really laid everything out Very understanding of struggles people are going through The textbook was used a little, you'll still need it. Formal reports are most of your grade. Attendance is kept as a grade don't miss that easy grade Drops some assignments
THis professor can not teach at all. very confusing and does not care about his students.
Don't listen to the other reviews of him, if you legitimately try, you'll do amazing. He cares about his students. I was out of the country for almost all of the semester. He worked with me the whole way through. His recorded zoom lessons were a big help when I did the labs. Wish I took him for the lecture too. Amazing professor. Take him.
Had him for lab 1112, too. VERY sweet professor who made chem a little more enjoyable. His exams can be hard, but as long as you attend the lectures/his office hours and put in the effort, you'll be fine. Not that accessible thru email. He understands his students and respects our lives outside of school, so he is very accomodating. Funny guy :)
Casanova is one of the most caring and understanding professors I have had. We did get a little behind in the course causing us to take test #3 the week before the final but a test is dropped for the lecture. He can take a little while to grade homework, but once again very understanding about situations outside of school that can affect school.
Prof. Casanova's lectures are fun and informative. He's great at explaining chemistry concepts in simple, understandable terms and relevant examples. Assigns weekly homework based on lecture material; exams are closed-notes but based on hw. Graded on hw, attendance, and four exams. Prof. C is very down-to-earth and cares about his students.
I read great reviews so I had high hopes, took this class via zoom and it was awesome. He really helps you understand the material and it made me love chem. chem is a harder subject but this professor made it way easier for me. He writes down notes versus just speaking very visual teacher and very note heavy also post all his lectures after. 10/10!
This professor was so chill, yet an amazing professor. He gives you information very clearly on how to do work and it helps immensely. He excepts late work, and is very understanding. I am so taking this man next semester in person! He is fantastic, I recommend.
CHEM is hard, but besides that, he's a great professor and explains the material well. He is very nice and don't be afraid to ask for help because he will deliver. The tests are hard for CHEM, so be prepared for that.
hes really nice about late work and will explain things to you if you dont understand during class however there is no review for the exams and its kinda of hard to reach him by email in case you have other questions you'd have to wait until the next class time
uses respondus lockdown browser. You will have to buy a lot of things to do 11 home chem experiments. Need a calculator and pay attention during lectures. He goes over how to do the experiments, and how to get answers. Has outside meeting times available and always willing to stay after class to help. Tough class, understanding professor,Buckle up!
This professor had me on edge the entire semester. The topics that he wants us to study for exams are SO vague and doesn't prepare you for exams. Terrible communication, unorganized and he cannot teach at all. He doesn't respond to your messages and takes forever to grades.
Great professor but never responds to emails, emailed 5 times this semester only received a reply once...
I can tell that Mr. Casanova deeply cares about his students but having his class on zoom was difficult. His lectures are okay but not good enough, especially for an online class. There were some topics on the exams that were briefly spoken about. Although I passed with an A+, I feel that I did not learn the basics of chemistry well enough.
Professor Casanova cares about his students and wants you to pass! He does drop hw grades just make sure to pay attention and study as hard as you can.
He is great at explaining difficult concepts. I took him for Gen Chem 1 and 2. I would take him again.
I recently took professor Casanova in the summer. It was an online flex course for chem lab. Hands down he is the most patient teacher I have ever had. He truly cares about all his students and wants everyone to pass. He also gives students more than enough time to turn in their work on time as well so there's no excuse
The KINDEST professor I've ever had. Took him for 1312 and 1112 and both were very easy classes. He does a major curve on all exams and has lots of office hours through zoom. If you're ever confused, ask him for help and he will work it out for you. My favorite professor I've ever had and wish I could take him again.
I honestly can't recommend professor Casanova for lectures. We were several weeks behind the lab and only took one test by the time Thanksgiving hit. This resulted in the class having to take 3 tests to take between december 1 and december 15 for this class alone. I'll be looking for chem classes on another campus.
He's very kind, funny, and caring. The only problem is that the tests are very hard (lockdown browsers too) His class had me constantly stressed. He does care about his kids but it seems like his lectures don't help with the exams, only with hw. He rarely ever responds to emails so beware.
he is extremely understanding, and helps you understand any question you have, attendance is also a grade, honestly only time a teacher had me enjoy a tough class, and you get to listen to music during a lab !!!!
Professor Casanova was an amazing teacher for intro to chem lecture. I truly recommend taking him if you struggle with the topic or just want a refresher before taking gen chem. He accepts all late work up until the end of the semester, homeworks usually have unlimited tries, his exams are graded on a curve, and ur lowest exam score gets dropped.
Mr. Casanova was a great professor! He helps you if you're struggling with class and offers tutoring(highly recommend going if you need help) He's funny & sweet to his students. His test were kinda hard, but he gives you hints on what you need to study. Attendance is required, he is an amazing professor and you will not regret taking his class.
TAKE HIS CLASS!! The best professor I've had at Vista hands down. You can tell he's passionate and highly knowledgeable about his work and chemistry overall. I'm not the biggest fan of online science courses but Mr. Casanova has been the only exception. 10/10 (his tests are tough but nothing he doesn't go over + he curves them). :)
Professor Casanova is caring and understanding. His exams can be challenging, but attending lectures and using resources like unstuck study help you succeed. He's a funny, sweet professor who respects students' lives outside of class.
Very nice & caring, the only issue I had was we had only taken Test 1 by Thanksgiving break. So the last 2 weeks consisted of Test 2, Test 3, final exam, along with 2 hw assignments due that he had to be reminded to assign, and they were due the same day as the final?? Plus I took his lab so I also had a lab final during the 2 weeks. Seemed rushed.
Very caring professor, you will not go wrong with his class. Made sure that you only were tested on what was being taught in the lectures. Very funny and make sure to engage with him during lecture, it helps with learning what's being taught. make sure to take notes but he also does a great job with his handouts that you can print out for yourself
He is a great professor I really enjoyed this semester with him, I have no foundation whatsoever with chemistry, and he is a huge help to my development in chemistry. Class was not the easiest but as long as you work with him he will work with you so I highly recommend taking him.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT especially if you work, have family to take care of or if you think you're bad at math.He truly understands that students come from different backgrounds and face different responsibilities, he does his best to support everyone.Using the knowledge/wisdom he gained throughout his career,he explains topics in unique and simple ways
