Good Professor....he is a good prof who goes at a good pace to make sure everyone understands and will always stop to explain the material. He's not going to try to trick you on exams...as long as you study and pay attention in class and read the book and his handouts you will do well. One of the better professors in the program...4 Stars
Not such a great Professor in terms of teaching but definately a good guy. But what are you gonna do with all his goodness if he doesn't know how to teach. I give him benefit of doubt since it was his first semester though I think he did a pathetic job. Finals literally killed us.
By far the nicest teacher I have ever had. It was his first semester teaching and he was a bit unorganized but he was no nice and goofy I still learned. Plus he does care about students which is real nice.
New professor, overall nice guy, makes a lot of effort with class notes and homework solutions, needs to improve class time management as well as flow of the lecture. He is on his way to becoming one of the better professors at Baruch
Very fair. Good sense of humor and respectful of students.
Nice guy but confusing. His diagrams are hard to understand and he spends a lot of time going in depth over a little bit of material. Therefore you won't learn a lot of new material in one semester. He's pretty new to teaching...maybe he'll improve over time
Nice guy. However, he is not clear in discussing the material at hand. Attending class is almost a waist of time. He is new to teaching and will hopefully improve in communicating course content necessary for use in practice as well as, for his examinations.
I agree that his diagrams are a bit confusing and his teaching method isn't very clear, however, if you ask him, he will take the time to give you a thorough explanation. Most of the material is explained through multiple examples in class. Just make sure to follow them from the very beginning and you won't get lost.
I found professor Cendella to be an excellent teacher. He really took his time to answer questions and he made great outlines. He is also a very nice person with a bit of goofy personality. Overall, he is a really cute guy.
He is the man, by far one of the best professors at Baruch. If you are having trouble with the material just approach him and he will make it crystal clear. He is completely down to earth and will try and simplify things so you can understand them. Keep up the good work Professor Cenedella.
Greatttttttttttttttt Professor and a great individual. Very difficult to find this combination at Baruch....Few of the gals I know find him Hot and love his smile..... But I would say that I started loving taxation just because he teached the concepts so well... his tests are tricky agreed but that determines how much attention you pay in class....
BEST PROFESSOR at Baruch! Great personality! One of the hottest! He is kind of young blood Baruch needs BADLY! Extremely patient, nice, easy going person. Tests are kind of tricky but if you work hard on the stuff he gave in class, you will be fine. Recommended!
greate prof, very patient, nice guy
AMAZZZZING!!!!!!!! Love taxation because of him! I would go for MS in taxation if he taught more classes. Hard work but it's worth it. He is crystal clear at explaining, goes well beyond the boring book. Take him, you won't regret.
As a lecturer he is great, organized, and interesting. Only issue I would have is that exams are murder. He is a very lenient grader, but exam questions are complex case studies.
Definitely not an easy A. Good professor, though. He is clear and makes certain that his students understand what he's teaching. Quizzes are based on class notes. Midterm was fair with very lenient grading. Final was a killer (even though it was an "open notes" test). He gives you virtually unlimited time to complete his exams.
He gave one midterm and one final with quizzes. The class was very very slow and so many parts were omitted from syllabus. Lecture notes were useful for exams but had many errors. He was friendly but not so great for teaching.
Average quality or maybe less. Didn't find those previous fantastic feed backs correct. I received a good grade, so not complaining but didn't like the way he lectured. It was just boring and slow, plus, didn't find it much practical.
Easy transition from undergrad accounting. No paper. Really enjoyed coming to his class & learning the material.
The class is very slow don't feel learn many things. The class was not very organized and the exams are tricky. The prof is funny but the grading is strict.
My favorite Professor. I think attending his class gave me all the passion to become a Tax Professional. David Cenedella is the best Professor there can be.
Although I'm convinced that he goes to the bar before classes, I must say that he's excellent. He simplifies difficult concepts with ample examples which makes for a thorough understanding of the topic at hand. Take good notes and keep updated with his Blackboard posting.
Nice down to earth guy but dont expect a curve. Tests are challenging but if you have good notes you will do fine. Class is worth attending..his examples are helpful and his jokes are hilarious.
2 open book exams, 2 quizzes but class is slow and sometimes confusing. He's a nice guy but not so organized. Must take good notes and attend class to get a good grade. Exams are tricky.
He really works hard to post helpful material on Blackboard. He provides tons of practice and review on Blackboard, which makes this class much easier. He even allows you to bring in his review material to the exam. A great help! He is nice and is available to help.
he tries to make sure everyone understands in the class, but the pace is really slow. To be frank, u can not learn much things in this Class. His exams and quiz are easy. He is popular among students, especially in girls because of his appearance.
Really nice porfessor, tries his best at explaining any topic. You HAVE to take good notes in order to do good in class. Exams are tricky, quizzes are not bad.
1 of the best professors i've had at baruch college. used examples that clearly show the differences between scenarios. his quizzes are tricky and his exams are killer. my 6 page midterm had a 3 page problem in it. not impossible but insanely difficult with the time constraint. you've been warned.
Awesome!!! It will be your loss if you don't take him. The best professor at Baruch College!
Doesn't get any better than this. He is smart, funny, caring, helpful, reasonable, etc. His quizzes are simple, but his exams are challenging (he eases the pain with chocolate). The material is interesting. I wish all my academic experiences mirrored this one.
I hate Tax! But, he gives great examples in class and his quizes are easy. You need to have good notes as all quizes and tests are open notes, NOT book! He cares about his students and understands the material is challenging. He is a generous grader when it comes to tests.
Extremely nice guy. Must pay attention and take very good notes!!! You cannot read book & expect to pass his exams. Luckily there a quizzes to help you focus.
The class is a bit funny and the topics are very interesting. Only problem, he is disorganize, not responsive and I don't think he cares about you or the class. Easy grader.
Great Professor! Has the best sense of humor in Baruch! Dudes and girls just love him! His quizzes are super easy, but midterm and final are catastrophic. He curves a lot, so most of the people I know got good grades. Material is boring, but you'll enjoy his classes, because he's so funny and charismatic. Take him!
Don't get distracted by his Anderson Cooper looks and killer sense of humor. The class is not easy and open note quizzes/exams don't help much. You need to attend each and every class and take good notes if you want to do well in this class. Exams, especially the final, are not easy, but manageable if you study hard and don't panic.
Fantastic academic experience. He keeps you on track with his quizzes (easy) and although the midterm and final are hard, he generously curves. He paces the class well and is a delight to learn from (funny guy). It really doesn't getter than this.
He is a great professor! Try your best to take his corporate tax course. Nice grader! Funny class!
U solve all end of chapter problems, all test bank problems, u r fine with in-class problems, your GPA is 3.9, and when exam comes u do not know what is going on. He tests you on stuff he never mentioned. He makes up his own problems which are impossible to solve. So if you care about yr GPA and your mental health skip this guy.
He worked 5 years as a lawyer for Deloitte, he dresses nice, talks nice, chews gum in the class, knows a lot, he is funny, draws diagrams on BB to make stuff easier to understand, he is about 40yo, 4-5 quizzes, 2 exams, some problems on exam even he can't solve because they are KILLERS made for some PhD tax class at MIT, so I dropped the course :(
He tested us on stuff he did not teach. Imagine you are 7 yo, teacher showed you numbers from 1-10, you learned numbers,so teacher now tests you on algebra. This is what Cenedella does all the time. Taught us basics and gave us killer problem that even he cannot solve for less than 2 hours. Why is he doing this? To make himself smart and us stupid
Actually, he is pretty good. Knows the material very well and explains in a very clear way. The problem is not him. It's the department's tendency to make these exams impossible. I noticed this trend at Baruch recently and it is so frustrating. I feel hopeless, because I feel like to get an A is a matter of luck now, even if you work hard.
He is an amazing professor. It is a difficult class but he tries to make it easier by giving you summary notes and practice problems. He is a lenient grader even if you don't get the correct answer he gives you plenty of partial credit. Quizzes are easy and will help you stay on top of your reading. He is a fun professor and I really enjoyed class.
This is the only class i look forward to out of my four classes. His diagrams and explanations help so much. I wish other professors taught this way. The class is not boring esp when he jokes around. His test seems Hard because he piecemeals everything during the semester. You just have to fully understand the concepts and apply it.
He is smart, funny, helpful and all is great until the final. He gives problems that seem easy, like the examples in class, but he adds in a trick or two that throw you off completely and start doubting all you know about the subject. It's frustrating especially in a subject like Taxation where even IRS and Tax Courts often can't seem to agree.
Cenedella's class is the only class I looked forward to in the whole semester, he is definitely one of best tax professors in baruch. He's available outside of class and would give you any help you need. He explains the material well, gives you study notes. Exams can be a little tricky but he is a lenient grader.
As the textbook sucks (which makes me suck at reading it), Cenedella becomes a great source for Corporate Tax. However, to do well with his tests, you need to at least read the tax codes and ask him questions above the examples that he gives classes. He is great at making himself available to students since he's a full-time.
Very good professor. Explains concepts with lots of examples. Tests are open book, fairly difficult, but fair.
He is the best tax professor at Baruch. So nice and very clear at explaining. Take him if you can!
He is the best professor at Baruch College. Taking his class es is an enjoyable experience. You will be taught the complicated tax code in an interesting way. He is funny, helpful and good looking. He knows how to teach. His notes are the best, clear and logic, also very detailed. I don't need to read the textbook at all.
Stay away, he might seem cool and hip but his exams are brutal! Material/problems in class are really easy, like basic math, and exams are extremely hard, like calculus. Exams are also really tricky and if you get Q1 wrong, then the next 5 questions will be wrong. I had an overall 3.6 and got a C+!? Would never take him again. Good Luck!!!
Stay away and save yourself the aggravation and GPA drop. Makes his exams a lot more complicated than they need to be. And to think that we have to pay money for this...
People, who gave the professor feedback that is less than perfect, you are not OK. How can you not appreciate this man, as an excellent professor and a very good person. His sense of humor+!+!+!+!+
Very good professor, he makes learning tax interesting and knows how to make complicated rules easy to understand.
Stay away from this professor. May seem cool and laid back but the Midterm and Final are way too hard. Had a 3.5 gpa and got a C+. My first C!
The material you learn in the class is not necessarily hard. The professor does try to teach it in a way that you can understand. However, this professor grades ONLY on exams and they are not the easiest. He gives excellent review sheets and sample problems from the textbook, but is very bad at replying to emails. And very minimal use of textbook.
out of all the professors you will have at baruch, he will probably be one of your favorites. but, the exams are hard bc he makes it as tricky and complicated as possible. quizzes are easy. he is willing to help whenever you need it, but exam difficulty comes out of nowhere. textbook is good source to have if his notes are not helping
pros- no attendance, no homework. cons- tests are insane, hard to get in touch with. go to class and take good notes and you'll do fine on the quizzes but midterm and final come out of nowhere. he won't fail anyone so if you don't care about your gpa and just need the class to graduate take him but if on probation and you need an A beware.
Professor Cenedella is probably the most engaging and accessible professor in the Baruch MST program. It's not really imperative to read the textbook, but DEFINITELY go to class and pay attention to his examples (especially when he does different fact patterns because those are always the hardest questions on the exams).
He is the best prof at Baruch. Exams may be a little bit difficult. But if you read the material he gives to you and take notes, you will be fine.
Took Cenedella for estates. He's a funny guy and easy to pay attention to. I felt like I learned a lot, but I got a B- in the end. I don't think he gives C's, cuz I probably deserved a D. The midterm was insanely hard, and the final was pretty difficult too. The difficulty of the questions was just unwarranted. That said, not a bad guy, ok prof.
He tries to teach in an easy and interesting way. Just pay attention to topics he mentions in class. Listen and don't rely on textbook too much. If you understand what he teaches and take notes, I'm sure you will get at least A-. Review sheets for midterm and final are perfect. No homework, 4 quiz.
I'm the same guy from the 1/8/16 review. I think Cenedella is out to get me because I got another B- in a class where that's the lowest grade. I didn't even think I did badly this time since I did fine on the quizzes and the final didn't seem that hard. Whatever. He's still a good prof for the vast majority of people.
He is funny, but his tests are very tricky. Want an A? Make sure you know the entire book and pay attention in the class
I enjoyed his class because he was well-organized, transparent, fair, and knowledgeable in his field. You should definitely take this professor if you want to understand tax, which is probably more important than just studying about it. I didn't plan to take him, but I'm glad it happened that way. Fyi, it's not only me who feels that way.
Horrible teacher!
Cenedella is a solid professor who cares a lot about his students. Lectures are casual but sometimes hard to follow. I did a lot of book learning. Generous curves on the two exams. Basically allows you to throw out a poor midterm grade (from 35 to 15% of grade). 4 quizzes worth 5% each. Study textbook for good grade.
45% from 3 Quizzes. No mid term. 55% from final, which is very tricky and easily ruins your GPA. I got full credit for all my quizzes but didn't do well on final. Only got a B. Also this professor never ever replies my email! Very hard to get in touch!
2 quizzes, 1 midterm and a final. Pay attention in class and you will do fine.
Very good teacher. Everything on the exam he will teach you in the class. Dont even read the book. Exam is very easy and he is very generous to give you a good mark. He is an interesting teacher giving us candies on Halloween day.
He is awesome!!! We really learned. Don't need to read the textbook. He taught everything that would be on the exams and gave very useful outline before exams.
I normally do not write reviews but Professor Cendella is awesome. I sat in this class and surprisingly did not bother using my phone or laptop much because he was engaging and witty with what is fairly dry material. Although I received a B- due to not studying for his quizzes/exams, I certainly did learn a lot.
Great prof. Makes tax very interesting and understandable. I like his pictures. I think he sometimes goes a bit too slowly - I would have liked to cover more material over the semester. Difficult tests, but they were kinda fun to work through! He should come to class on time! Overall, really fantastic - I highly recommend.
Great lectures! Lots of examples in class to make concepts clear. Does not refer to text book. You have to study for the test. Would highly recommend.
Ive not received my grade yet because I dont want to judge the professor on my own grade. Take Prof Cenedella if you got chance! He is knowledgeable, having a great sense of humor which makes Tax lot more accessible. Tax in general is dry, but he can somehow make it easier(not easy because of nature) to understand. Lectures are great and engaging
He is the absolute best professor in Baruch Acct MS program I have taken so far since 2018 fall semester. You must take his tax class whenever possible if you really want to learn about taxation.
I don't usually leave reviews but this professor is DEFINITELY the best professor in the MST!! He's hilarious and makes everything so understandable - would highly recommend and not bad to look at
This is a great class for people who need an introduction to corporation tax. You really DON'T need to use the textbook because he just does problems on the overhead and lectures. Study everything in the lecture and you will be fine if you take good notes because all of the tests were also open book!
He might seem laid back but his explanations in class can be very confusing and hard to follow sometimes. Buying the books was a waste of money because he never refer to the book. I went to every class, recorded it, read the book and still managed to get a poor grade. Never replied to my emails. He only gives A to people who participate in class.
Dont let him fool you. Just because he seems understanding and very laid back, his exams are very hard and tricky. I emailed him a couple of times, never replied. Doesnt curve at all.
Lecture is confusing, (but also entertaining) reading handout's are best way to study. Dont use textbook. If he does not respond to emails confront him and he will be better about it. He lets you out of class an hour early. But he get's bogged down in silly examples that end up confusing you more. 3 quizzes, 1 final. MCQ, TF and Short answers.
His tests are really tricky, even with an open book test. he doesn't answer e-mails and a super tough grader. His exams are based on lectures so miss a class and you'll struggle
He made the topic interesting and fun. You must go to class, take notes, and study them. He did not reference the textbook much, but I read the chapters and thought it helped. Tests are tricky, but he does curve. Its a tough topic and he makes it understandable. Tests are open book, but you'll only have time for a quick reference.
study the material he goes over in class, read the text as a supplement and thoroughly review the different docs he uploads and you'll be fine.
Professor Cenedella is great. I had him online and he posted his lectures online throughout the week so we could learn on our own time, and then basically opened up class time for questions. SUPER convenient. While tax is tricky, he explains it very well with great examples. 2 quizzes throughout semester which help on midterm/final for sure.
Barely curves, hes nice, but test are tricky and hard.
Painfully boring 3 hour lectures with no breaks, sometimes with him going off on tangents. Tests are open notes but very tricky and count for most of your grade (35% midterm, 45% final). There's a lot of information to know and it's sometimes confusing to learn through his lectures. Best bet is to study the material yourself with the lecture notes.
He is far better than any other tax professor at Baruch. 2 quizzes 10% each, 1 midterm 35%, final 45%. No homework. Just be aware that you need to read. He curves all the exams and quizzes, also the final grade.
Two quizzes, midterm, and a final. Open book. Gives pretty nice curves and drops questions everyone got wrong. Puts two textbooks on the syllabus, but you really only need the first one from cengage. It was hard to hear and see what was going on so def sit towards the front. Pretty ok with responding to emails.
Just read his notes and listen to his lecture. Btw cengage helps a lot and read the book as well.
This professor is fantastic! He uses vivid and visualized examples to explain those extremely difficult policies and a bunch of tax policies to students. Also, because this is a large class (around 300 students), make sure you sit near the front so you can take notes. The good news is that your professor will provide you with an outline.
He is the best! He gave a lot of curves on the final grade and he even posted the grade on Christmas night! What a wonderful gift! Thank you so much!
2 quiz 2 exam no hw. Amazing professor. Clear example in class helps understanding. Our class happened several times need ranking-add extra credit to test (maybe we did so bad by raw grades). He is the best. I love him so much. Email responding is available no matter if you are in class of 300-400. He reply by himself. Takes him as your instructor!
The class grade only composes of two quizzes, one midterm, one final. So you have to study hard to do well. The professor in general is chill and curves the class fairly well. You will learn a good amount from his lectures.
Super hard to pay attention in this class. He used an overhead projector to teach with no slides. Just him writing notes on a piece of paper in a class of 400 students. Honestly a horrible learning experience for me. He does provide thorough lecture notes, so focus on that. Exams are difficult, not much room to get a good grade if you don't do well
Fun class. I struggled with understanding his exam questions. If you have a disability avoid this class because you wont get your exam back. He provides question clarification during exam that those of us with a disability don't receive. Also a lot of cheating that he's aware of & failed to prevent. It affected the curve unfairly. I learned a lot.
After hearing stories about the other tax professor I was prepared for the worse. David gave credit if he made a mistake, if almost everyone got a question wrong, and always gave a freebie. Some students used his outlines I purchased both textbooks as the cost was outrageous. I would take him again the class felt more like a conversation about tax.
He's pretty chill. Let's you out early. Study his own written Word documents more for the two quizzes and final. Learn the mathematical steps behind the problems through those docs. The other PDF articles are helpful but focus more on those. This class is easier if you have had Estates and Real Estate (TAX 9870, 9930) classes before. Open NB tests.
Multiple handouts on BB so make sure you printed those out along with the specific chapters in the textbook (it's free and out on the internet) because the exams are open nb. He's a little disorganized but fair. If you just study the handouts, do the math problems, and read the chapters, you will be fine. He uses an overhead projector so no ppt.
Professor Cenedella is a great professor. The class is lecture heavy, but if you put the effort in to get a good grade you will as the exam and quizzes were more than fair.
Overall knowledgeable and lectures well. A lot of the course is assigned reading. If you want to do well you HAVE to self study. He didn't require attendance, there was a 'pop' quiz in person but he told us when it was. ALOT of cheating/talking/use of phones during tests that he doesnt care about, so do not expect a good curve.
It's tax. It's hard if you don't keep up with the reading and material. Graded by only 2 quizzes and a final so there is no room for error. Each quiz only had like a 2 point curve because of the amount of cheating. He notices it, but lets it slide. Long lectures, but you learn a lot. If you don't pay attention, you will not do good. I didn't.
He is so boring omg! Had 2 midterms, 1 quiz, and the final. Even if you did good on the midterms, but bombed the final for whatever reason, you did poorly in the class because it was worth 45% of the class grade. Take another professor
Taxation is a complex subject that requires lots of time and dedication. To do well on your midterms and final, you must watch his lectures back, take notes b/c his exams are open book, and read and analyze the textbook so you can understand the rules since you have to apply them on the short answer questions on exams. He's a great professor!
Unfair grading scale. Allowed people to skip tests and let other tests count for the remainder of the score. However, if you took the test instead of skipping it you had to accept your grades. In a quiz he stopped in front of a group of students who were talking to each other, called them out on it, then let them continue.
Tough class but extremely easy going and positive professor. Curves generously and is very fair. I studied very hard on my own without ever watching his lectures, got A, but to be honest I only did good because his exams were very fair and not as complicated as he could have made it. Great professor. Unfortunately, some students will cheat tho.
Straight lecture and assigned readings like 100 pages a week. Not much practical questions in class and the test questions are different than what he goes over. Curves are small, so anyone who says good curve is lying. In an instance we had only a 1 point curve. Allows all forms of academic cheating.
Prof is cool, but his classes are pretty dull and you won't get much out of them. Skip the lectures, hit the books, and you'll scrape a B (I attended classes, and was not worth it). Our first quiz was a mess - he tried making his own balance sheet question, and honestly, it confused everyone. No clue how to answer. Outside that, he's alright.
This professor is great even though he may be a little too laid back and slightly unorganized and at times confused himself especially when it comes to quizzes and his own syllabus, he's caring, easy grader and the lectures are enjoyable even though the material can be too quantitative at times.
This professor is great and cool. He uses vivid and visualized examples to explain those personal financial planning concept to the students and he will provided you a handout to help you prepared for the class as well.
Midterm 30%. Finals 70%, cumulative. He explains complex topics in simple terms, and he gives lots of examples. He records his lectures. Try to memorize the outlines as best as possible. Many ppl think they don't need to study since the exams are open notes, but then do badly. There is a lot of info! Very generous curve and extra credit.
Take him. I was scared because there's only 2 things you're graded on in this course which is 30% for mid and 70% on final. He allowed for an extra 5% extra credit on 5 small assignments and that's MASSIVE here believe it or not. He curves generously and is a great guy. I barely studied or listened to lectures and still got a B! Watch his lectures!
Professor David is the best tax professor! He is professional, smart, respectful, and explains complex topics clearly and step by step. He always smiles warmly in class, which makes students feel encouraged to participate. His notes are clear enough that I didn't use the textbook. He answers questions with patience and insight. 100% recommend!
Best Tax Professor, he wants his students to do well. He will explain the materials step by step to you. He gives you all the materials you need to succeed. He is not intimidating, so he is very easy to talk to if you need extra help with the subject. I highly recommend.
TAX 9861 Asychronous - I liked the professor's warm smile and pre-recorded videos. Yet, the course was graded on 2 HWs 2.5% each, 1 M/C midterm 35%, and 1 M/C final 60%. The professor also made errors. It would have been better if grade was made up of more components.
