David's a cool guy. At times he seems bored with archaeology. The assignments are reasonable, except for one: Fugawiland. From what I'm told, he got rid of that assignment because it was such a huge pain. The topics can certainly be dry at times but overall not a bad class.

Also had him for ANTH 140. He's very chill and helpful. He really cares that his students understand the main concepts and encourages them to interrupt his lecture with questions! :) Awesome sense of humor, too!

This teacher was so awsome. Made the class so much fun and everyone wanted to attend his lectures. He doesn't like to talk a lot and shows a ton of movies... I would really recommend him... He is such a great teacher... you learn a lot and he makes it fun

he is awsome! but sometimes it feels like he doesn't want to teach the class.. there are 2 mid-terms and 1 term paper and the final! term paper is 30% of your grade and final is also 30% of your grade. I did horrible on my 1st mid-term because i didn't study but I studied hard for 2nd one and i got high B!!! he gives essay questions before the test

Pretty intersting class and intersting teacher. Help is always there if needed. Very funny guy, knows what hes talking aboat, personal stories are always good. The class is a bit dry at times. Gives good test review, and gives you essay questions prior to test. Shows alot of movies. Over all good teacher, strongly recommend.

His lectures are interesting, but his material seems to be based on his own personal interest and findings. So if you miss a class, you're screwed b/c the info is nowhere to be found online. Even if you get the notes from another student, it is hard to understand. I would definitely reccommend him if you're postive you can attend every class

he was absolutely a woderful professor. He really helped you out when you needed it and made anthro more interesting than it already was. He's never late and just has an awesome personality.. never grouchy or anything! take this class.. it's not hard.. just come to class like you're supposed to and don't be scared to ask for help.

this guy seriusly rocked my socks. really funny guy. no text book except reading packets. but really he goes over those in class so no need. if you miss a class he is willing to go over the chapter with you and even email them. really helpful too. you can email him about anything. furthermore, he is an archaeologist and canadian. TAKE HIM!

Great prof. Such a great guy. Although attendance is not mandatory, it's good that you show up because all his test materials are based on his class lectures. He's very willing to help you out with ANYTHING. you can talk to him about anything.

Cheetham is a great teacher. He's also an interesting guy with a sense of humor, making the class very enjoyable. You can tell that the guy honestly cares about his students, which is hard to come by. I've definitely learned alot from him. The class itself is VERY easy and there's not much work other than showing up and listening.

attendance is good cuz of pop quizzes. reading the textbook helps a lot cuz quiz questions and essay-type questions on exams are on stuff in the book. he tells a lot of stories, but they're good and funny. good game to play if bored in class: count the number of times he says "aboot." (he's from "rural canada").

he's a great professor. You don't get bore in his class because he is funny and he makes his class enjoyable. We had about 3 pop quizes, 3 labs, and 2 exams. He show some interesting films. Recommend taking him.

Definitely a teacher worth taking! Even thought he lectures a lot, it's always really fun and interesting. I've learned a lot in his class and never thought about majoring in Archaeology before I took his class, but now I almost want too. He's a great teacher and really does care about how much sense he makes. And I love it when he says ABOOT. haha

AWESOME teacher!!! I was not thrilled about taking Anthro at all because everyone says it can get boring and there is so much reading. But with him, he makes it SO fun and interesting. He knows his stuff and tries to relate it to us. Most of the stuff he teaches is interesting and he makes lectures funny so everyone pays attention. Nice guy!

Awesome professor! Very helpful with any questions or misunderstandings. Lectures are not mandatory but a good idea because his tests are all from his lectures, plus he makes them interesting! He gives you the essay questions before the test too. A funny guy who makes boring topics interesting! Definately reccomend!

he keeps things very interesting and has a great sense of humor. tests aren't too hard if you attend class.reading is necessary but he covers a lot in class too. if you need help or have questions he is very useful and does his best to help you out. his lectures are easy to follow along with.i would definitely suggest him as a teacher.

David is an excellent teacher. He also has a great offbeat sense of humor. What's good about his teaching is that you can tell he's very much into the subject and is brutally honest about the material, i.e. whether theories are bs or not. He's extremely helpful with everything but you have to do the work. I wish I could take him every semester.

I never read the book, just attended every lecture and still received a B. You want to go to the lectures, they are helpful, he has pop quizzes, and if you miss any of his great stories he shares from his experiences, your missing out on all of the fun.

I took Anthro 120 w/ David Cheetham during my Fall Semester of 2007. David is one of the most brilliant teachers/most interesting people I've ever met! He has a great, offbeat sense of humor & gives well informed, interesting/entertaing lectures. His tests are based primarily on his lectures, so taking good notes is essential to a good grade.

I hear he may be leaving due to some personal issue. How utterly sad for Anthro at CSULB. This guy REALLY went out of his way to help and is dynamic and informative in the classroom. He genuinely cares (a rarity here) and has a magnetism about him that's hard to put your finger on. Wherever you go, Cheetham, go as a bug does to light.

Engaging and humorous, David's class is all about participation and truly getting involved with the material, so that one can pick up the most knowledge about cultural anthropology. It was a fun class and if you like to add a few words during class to liven up the material, he gives you a shot. He is easygoing and is definitely recommended.

I have NEVER had a more helpful, caring professor here at CSULB and one that can deliver a lecture like it's the last 30 minutes of his life. He will bend over backwards to help any student.... CSULB is letting go one of the best Professors here, what a HUGE loss to the Anthro Dept. but mostly to the students!!

Definitely looked forward to coming to his class! He's one of the best teachers I've ever had. He's a fun, exciting guy , and even his lectures are interesting. I came in his class knowing nothing about the subject (besides what I've seen on the history channel) and came out knowing more about Archeology than I knew what to do with.

Prof. Cheetham is by far my favorite professor at CSULB. His lessons are engaging and the material is interesting. He also has a very pleasant demeanor and is ALWAYS willing to help. I realized early in the semester that I didn't have to take his class after all for my degree but stayed in it anyways. Definitely worth taking!

Prof. Cheetham is down-to-earth (no pun intended) and approachable. In fact, he'll approach you. He's one of those professors who talks to his students after class about anything and is willing to help them. Your grade depends completely on attendance and participation, class is so interesting can't understand why you wouldn't want to attend. Readings required for each session, all of which you are held accountable for on tests. This is definitely an upper division class, required readings and attendance are necessary for success. Tests aren't easy but are very straight forward in terms of what you are accountable for. Cheetham makes every class interesting and applies concepts well so they can be fully grasped.

No matter what he is talking about in class that day you can't help but pay attention;o) When you get into required upper division Anth classes paying attention can be hard too!...Trust me! Cheetham taught the second half of my semsester in anthro when my professor had an emergency.. he made the class so much more interesting. He made it entertaining and intersting to be in class. He uses stories to get the topic across and it can say i actually learned something that will stay with me, not just info to pass tests

I really enjoyed this class and his teachings. He made anthropology really interesting and set good analogies for me and other students to understand the subject better. The class includes a lot of reading and note taking but its really helpful for midterms and finals. Hes really understanding and easy going when help is needed. I loved this class.

Cheetham is absolutely the best professor I have EVER had at CSULB. He knows his material and doesn't make the class dry with his extensive knowledge; like many professors tend to do. Professor Cheetham is awesome. He is outgoing and energetic in lectures and always willing to tell a personal story about his research. He is very helpful and will give you feedback over e-mail or in his office. If you miss a class he will be happy to e-mail you the notes, just have to ask! The tests cover lecture notes and readings, no surprizes!

Pyramids, Tombs, and Treasures. The class was nothing next to the cheesy title. It was engaging, fun, and made me go to class every session! He encourages you to ask questions and participate, not in an on-the-spot manner, but in a non-threatening way. Take his class!!

he makes learning anthro fun. Which is something that I have not experienced through my other professors. He gives out study guides, and if you do the studying you will get a gaurenteed A on it. Anthr313 was a lot of work for a summer 6-week class: six page annotated bibliography, ten page research paper, mid term, and final. Keep up on reading and go to class you will be OK. Cheetham is brilliant, funny, very approachable and an all around great teacher. He encourages student discourse and questions. Fun class, I Absolutely recommend him.

This Cheetham guy is intense and holds the class in a unique way through his character, mostly. You can't help but want to attend and listen. I found it hard to talk to him sometimes, though, because his eyes are piercing blue, huge, and seem to look straight through you and read your thoughts. Very helpful and caring person. i took him at cypress c.c. and he was really great,he was really interesting and he tried to get to know his students. We used a course reader instead of book and it was only $15.Most days we took notes and listened to lecture, we also watched videos periodically. His tests weren't that bad if you knew what was going on. take his class.

This teacher was so interesting. His teaching style is a little different but just as effective. He comes off strong but that's only cuz he has an actual personality. he is willing to help you if you need it. He makes an issue to stress the concepts then key dates ect. I would definantly recommend him. Great Teacher.

Cheetham was exceptionally good at his job. There wasnt a day that id come in to class where i wouldnt walk out in a better mood. He explains everything in depth and with clarity.his study guides are based on exactly whats on the test, and he always throws in at least 1 free bee! loved that. over all hes a great teacher and i highly reccomend him.

Professor Cheetham inspired me to major in anthropology. He has a great sense of humor,making class a riot while staying on topic. He explains everything patiently and makes things very clear.He's genuine when he asks how your day is going. He wants you to be heard and understood.My prejudices about race/ethnicity are diminished thanks to him.

I am a 3.8 student and was just taking Anth 102 as a GE. At first i had no interest in the subject. David Cheetham changed that. He is a wonderful professor and knows how to keep you entertained while staying on subject. His test are easy if you pay ATTENTION in class. His class was one of the best classes i have taken. TAKE HIM...HIS GREAT!

Cheetham is the kind of guy who obviously knows his stuff-- he's very well read. He seems concerned that the students learn the material, and his teaching style is comprehensible. My mediocre grade in his class was entirely my fault (I kinda blew off some of the readings), but I'd recommend his class to anyone.

It was a lot of work, but all the information was interesting and totally new. Cheetham did a good job making it interesting and fun, and while I may not remember everything, I have had a lot of fun sharing what I've learned and applying it to my art (gasp). Overall, it was a valuable class and a good over-view of Pre-Columbian history!

I took this class at LCAD, the entire class was not doing so well after the first test but the tempo picked up from there and people raised their grades right at the end. David has a very enthusiastic personality and made the material interesting and fun! "Come prepared and on time right after you brush your teeth and floss."

Cheetham introduced the art and culture of ancient South America and Meso America in an interesting and informative matter.  He has inspired me to learn more on the subject and visit these places in the future.  I would definitely take a class offered by him in the future.

Professor Cheetham is all you could ask for in. In a mere three months he has taught me more then expected. He delivers his lessons in such a way that it makes you want to participate, pay attention, and learn! I HIGHLY recommend this teacher, for I would enroll again without thinking twice.

excellent class and teacher. his lectures were interesting and he kept it casual. i really liked that he's an actual archaeologist and he knows his stuff. the tests were medium difficulty but i did well on them and on the papers. responds to emails promptly also, and that's especially important to me when i need answers right away.

Honestly the best teacher I have ever had. You can see how much he loves what he is teaching and he keeps the classes interesting. Professor Cheetham is awesome! He made the subject matter easy to understand. Class was an open forum, he welcomed and encouraged questions,he allowed us to email him, and his responses where always quick. On assignments his expectations where always well defined, he is dedicated,interesting, considerate and caring. I'd recommended him to anyone!

Amazing class, extremely interesting and up beat. I would recomend this class to anyone that is interesting in taking anthropology. I measure class by the amount of times i fall asleep during the class and i did not fall asleep once all semester in this class. Do the required readings and take good lecture notes you will need them. GREAT CLASS!

Before taking his archaeology class i had no interest in the subject. david knows what he is talking about and that comes from years of field experience! not just a professor regergitating useless information. highly recommend his class and would take it again in a heatbeat!

David Cheetham is my favorite teacher at LBCC. His course is very easy, meaning his expectations are clear and to pass the course, you just need to pay attention in class, read the readings, and go over your notes for the test. Even though attendance was not mandatory, I wanted to go to class every meeting time. I highly recommend him.

David was by far the most honest teacher, and most interesting I've had at LBCC. He is very courteous and attentive towards his students. Sometimes veers off the topic, but it's always something interesting. He gives some extra credit points, and his tests are always entertaining to say the least. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I've had never heard a speaker like this before, not even on TV. If he talked of paint drying you'd sit on the edge of your seat and anticipate the climax, he's that good. And I learned so much about culture. Take his class! He has a aura and magnitism about him too, and the most incredible eyes I have EVER seen. Wow. Very friendly sand helpful too

I've taken David's course in Spring 2009 at LBCC. I was a bit clueless when I came to the class about all the different cultures there are. I've learn a lot at the end of the semester. He is very helpful for students who want help, all you need to do is ask and he will spend some time before and/or after class. Good Luck, take care and enjoy.

I took David's class this past spring semester. I loved this class, and recommend this to anyone considering taking a anthropology class. His Tests are easy but you need to study and do the readings. David is very helpful and cares about his students. Great class, Great Teacher.

I loved this class! I found myself talking to others throughout the day about what I had learned earlier. The things you learn cross over into other fields and I actually found myself enjoying and understanding my human geography class more because of anthro2 with David. Highly recommended! would do it again

he is an amazing teacher, really down to earth. you can tell that he loves his subject. he makes the class very interesting. Everything that you need to know is in his lectures. Great class and a great professor. He relates his topics to our world today with ease and amazingly hilarious comparisons. Wants his students to bring their own opinions to the table and talk about it. Willing to listen and answer any and all questions that you may have about ANYTHING! The readings are very important to the class as a whole.

The only teacher I've had who is alright with not knowing everything about the subject. He makes the material very interesting, you can't help but listen to him. He goes off on tangents, which can normally confuse students, but they are from real life experience in the subject which just adds to the interest level. Absolutely great professor!!

Professor Cheetham was epic. His teaching style is pretty laid back and unstructured, but he knows what he's talking about and if you even pay vague attention to the lectures you'll do fine on the tests. The class was three hours long and I was still never bored! Take him. Seriously. You will learn a lot.

He is one of the greatest history teachers I have ever had. He kept me interested by telling the class his experiences in the field which add so much to the learning experience. I hope he comes back so I can take the second part with him as the teacher.

Being an Archaeology major, I was nervous going into my first class involving an actual Archaeologist. I can honestly say that my time with this professor has increased my love for the subject and inspired me more than I could ever express. I never looked at the clock and was shocked when class was over. An incredible TEACHER.

If you struggle, he is willing to help. His classes can be fairly easy as long as you attend class, read the textbook as assigned and participate. He makes you want to come to class and has many stories which relate to what he is teaching -- makes the learning more fun!

Cheetham was the type of a guy who came off as a little crazy at first impression-- but as the class progressed, I realized that he was a hilarious jokester and very easy to connect with. Although he recommends the use of a textbook, I was able to get by without one just fine. But if you decide to not use a book, be sure to take thorough notes!

I took David for Anth. 114P at UCLA. How to describe him? Well he's funny, interesting, sincere,and sympathetic. His assignments are straightforward and fair. His tests are pleasant! Just go to lecture and take good notes. I'm not an Anthro major, but overall I'd say his class was one of the best classes I've taken in college. Highly recommended!

A "best of the best" instructor. I am Cheetham's age myself ( a returning adult student) and I still think his class may be the high point in my education. He's smarter than you are but won't rub it in; you could be a one hundred year old with 15 doctorate degrees and he would still have some enlightening insight for you to take in. Take his class

Cool guy. Interesting lectures. Quizzes and exams weren't hard and had a lot of time. You have to read and can't be lazy but it's totally doable and he helps if you have questions. Doesn't use any powerpoint.
