great teacher
Great teacher. Willing to help. If you pay attention in class and study even a little, you should have no problem passing. If you do his suggested homework you will get no worse than a B.
Great professor. Makes quizzes fun with optional games(however, it can be hurtful to your grade). if you take econ321 then you will want Ching as your professor.

Dave is cool, his test are average

Intro to statistics isn't that bad. He gives out his powerpoint presentation slides so its easier to follow in class. He goes at a slower paced. The quizzes aren't that hard if you study. I just don't like the idea of NOT turning in homework because I don't have discipline to study myself. :P Overall, great class and professor.
super boring...he confuses us with his stupid examples...doesn't know what he's talking about
difficult, but nice teacher
He was awesome, i took his class last year and I was failing miserably from the weekly quizzes but he made it possible to redeem myself on the final. I got a B. He's a great guy. Very spontaneous.
If you are one of those who don't attend class and rely solely upon your textbook to study for exams - don't bother taking this class. Attend all lectures (he also gives pop quizzes so watch out!) and I guarantee you you'll be fine in this class. Exams are fairly easy and the questions are pretty straightforward and aren't too tricky.
clear to the point, attend all lectures.
Watch out for the movies. They are quite boring, his TA helps a lot so go to the study sessions and the class will be quite easy to pass. Test can be passed just by going to class but don't hope for an A.
Good Professor. Fair Grader.
boring and lame. he tries to tell stories but no one laughs except him. i suggest taking someone else.
tough class. hard to miss a single one because of quizes and all the notes. he's very focused and confident. open to answering questions and willing to help. review sessions are very important in getting a good grade. i think he rides a motorcyle to class too!
Straight to the point, fair grader. Tests have various formats, which was quite hard for the traditional me. Other than that, everything is easy as long as you understand the concepts.
An excellent professor. Goes by the book, and always shows examples from the textbook. He is very easy to understand and very helpful. He will give 10 quizzes of various formats from T/F, Word problems, multiple choice, etc. There are no midterms, just the quizzes and the final. Just do the optional homework, and you're going to get an A. Guarans.
Took him for both 131 & 321. Awesome teacher!! And his jokes ARE funny. Makes class fun. Tests are easy if you pay attention. For 131 you dont need to read boring textbook, just make sure to print out slides. For 321, just because HW not required, do it if you want a good grade. Very flexible grading scheme. Highly recommended.
Decent class, kinda boring. Never used the book, just pay attention to examples in class
This guy sucks. i hate him. he is unnecessarily strict, and mean. avoid at all costs.
I am EE major. THinking of doubling in econ now. ching is awesome. He doesn't screw around and is real clear about high expecatations of us. He told us don't take his class if only want grade (u WILL regret). Funny as hell. Class could use req'd HW, but lots and lots of quizzs. I will ACE class, but I WORK hard-If not willing..don't take!
He's a good teacher. Kind of strict but funny and very helpful and always makes himself available for questions or verification. No req'd homework but quizes almost every week. Also have a four page paper to write as well as 2 mid-terms and a comprehensive final.
no homework, quizzes online almost every week. 2 midterms, a final and a 4 page paper that is UNNECESSARY especially for a introductory class. if there was no paper id say this professor is a B+ but because of the paper i gave him a B-
He doesn't go by the book but instead his powerpoint slides or personal notes. He expects you to know the concepts more than the terms and defs. He's pretty hard..gives 2 ex creds that boosts your final grade up 1% and 2%--harsh grader..
Though his lectures are boring and he usually gives an online quiz to the class every week his exams are kinda on the easy side. He also requires you to write a four page paper which sucks but I don't think it's graded really harshly since mines was real crappy and I still got an A for the course.
Genuinely cares about his students' education of macroeconomics. Ching stresses his students' in-depth knowledge of concepts more so than memorization and terms. He is willing to help you understand the concepts even AFTER the final exam!
I too dropped this class, and I too agree that he is pretty awesome at explaining, very interestng AND sorta strict. HOWEVER I will NOT take him next time aroundl Sorry, but econ is just not my interest. I really just need the grade and want to move on. (He is all about studnets understanding, so that;s good, I guess. And hello.. a paper? ugh.
Ching needs to realize that this class was an intro course and we were all not there in hopes of becoming an economist! Class is a waste of time and its irritating as he laughs at his own jokes. I did not care for economics at all so maybe that is a big reason for why i felt Ching was useless and not helpful. Plus he gave pop hw and quizes online.
Funny, reading review below is exactly opposite my experience. He was interesting&very helpful. We thought he could be a comedian. He cares about our education in econ. I am double major because of his class. Like said below, if you arent a serious student, you will not like class, but I took his because of all his good reviews. Glad I did.
Honestly, I hated ching. I've had 2 other economics teachers that were much better than him. (one being professor russo -- so take him if you can) I have an A in his class, and barely got a C in Chings. He does not know what he is talking about, and I almost lost all my interest in econ because of him. ++ side is you can skip a good amount!
Do not take lightly, this stats class is intensive & expect to do 2-3 hours of studying each week. Ching is great in class & VERY helpful during office hours if you need any clarifying. Weekly quizzes vary in difficulty but if you study before and do the hw probs, you'll at least pass the class. If you need to take stats, I'd take this class.
He's a good teacher. I can see how some people wouldn't like him but IMO he is one of the better teacher's at UH. He can seem mean but he means well. If you do the assigned HW you will have no problem passing the class with at least B.
Intro Stats class. If math isn't your forte, you may have to work more to grasp the concepts. If you understand the equations&how to apply em, you're set. After he's done w/ a chapter, there's a quiz the next day. The class pace is easy to follow. Ask ?s if you have any. He'll be glad to further explain things. Don't forget a calc+eq./table sht. :)
I hate this class. Ching talks abuout everything like you already know everything about econ. He goes so fast and doesn't answer questions. If you ask him a question he responds with "well, what do you know about it?". Horrible.
So basically this teacher is pretty whack, he thinks he is the coolest guy ever but really is just annoying and full of it. The homework load isn't that much but its all online and the tests are pretty hard, if you fall behind in the beginning yeah your gonna fail if your lazy and do the minimal your going to fail so yeah stoners beware
great teacher for econ! I HATE econ and I'm passing with a B so far...I have never done well in Econ (I am repeating this class because I got a D+)...he makes it as interesting as econ can be. His tests aren't bad as long as you study! go to class, do your homework (there's not much) and you'll do fine!
Ching was a hard to follow professor for Macro Economics. If you've never taken economics before-don't take it from him UNLESS you are going to attend class everyday and pay attention! He is very helpful and ALWAYS available; truly a nice guy. I just had a hard time with the subject. Tests= SUPER HARD. Hw=Lots. so if you take it-STUDY & Go TO CLASS
this class is easy, the tests are easy too! he is a great teacher and also very nice!!!
Ching was an awesome professor! This is my second time around taking Macro Econ, and it's never been more clear to me! KIKUCHI IS HORRIBLE! Ching is organized, SUUUPER NICE, and makes sure the class understands it. Only crappy part, there's a paper. But he's super cool about that too! Just go to class everyday & you'll be fine!
The class overall was not the easiest to understand because economics itself has so many exceptions, but the professor's example were very relateable and the HW was the easiest online HW ever. Most important thing in this class is not to fall behind because most chapters relate to one another. The tests also usually reflect on the quizzes.
Good teacher, doesn't try to cram too much info into one class, but enough that you don't get bored. The only exam is the final, but he gives quizzes short easy quizzes after every chapter. He wants his students to make an A in his class and he makes it easy. Pay attention in class & do homework & you can get an A.
Ching is great. He makes subject understandable by giving plenty of examples of equations in class. Homework and quiz with every chapter either online or in class. Straight up good Prof. with no curveballs. Dont cheat or he will catch you (he is a stats prof after all).
Easy going and explains things alright. Although you should read the book because he rambles and it makes things confusing. One final paper due and has online homework and quizzes sometimes. Easy A if you attend class and do assignments.
Nice guy! Knows his stuff! I kind of felt that you needed to learn Micro before taking his Macro class. Moves very fast but open to questions at any time. VERY IMPORTANT!!! MUST READ BOOK AND STUDY BEFORE CLASS!! If you do that... you should get an A or a B...
Prof. Ching is a great educator. He's very knowledgeable of the subject and he lectures really good. He shares some pretty funny jokes and experiences. Macroeconomics is generally a hard course and as expected, you need to study and read your book. If you're looking for a cruise class, this isn't for you, but if you wanna learn something, take him!
He's a laidback & engaging prof who emphasizes the importance of self-motivation amongst students. Usually a straight A student, math has never been my strong point but he encouraged me to work hard to earn a passing grade. Definitely the most challenging and demanding course I've taken in college but I was grateful to be taught by Ching.
Easy class, chill professor. You MUST attend class to learn anything. He focused on making connections between the concepts rather than just memorizing them, which I liked. I read all the chapters/online hw, attended all classes, and got an A+. Turned out to be my fav class. Def not for slackers. 2 midterms, final, final paper, chapter quizzes.
Awesome teacher! Super funny, local guy who relates examples to everyday college life. There's online homework and regular multiple choice exams. But over all he's a very good teacher! Be sure to attend class regularly, because what he discusses in class is what is on the midterms and exams!
needs to learn to slow things down and stop answering unnecessary questions. if he just lays out the material in a more orderly fashion he wouldn't have to intercept ridiculous Q&A which ends up confusing everyone. DONT TAKE
very challenging class & useful . i can see why SOME donh't like. maybe hardest class i had at uh so far. he's very freindly and good at answering questions. i actually considring majoring in econ now. our double majoring. pay attention early--i had hard times catching up. material can get real hard. quizes both ez & hard. midterms get hardr
Prof. Ching is very laid back. If youre looking for those local guys who are funny and chill, hes the professor for you. He does miss a lot of lectures so not every chapter will be covered according to schedule. you MUST attend class to learn even if its not mandatory. But he knows his stuff and you will learn if you pay attention. Also very helpful
I hate economics now.
He is a great teacher. Super helpful. attendance is not mandatory, but you should go class for better grade. Most of ppts will be posted on Laulima, but sometimes it does not, and you may have difficulty in understanding some economics terms if you dont go lectures.
He's a cool guy and pretty chill. Makes economics more fun to learn. Not too hard but you have to pay attention.
Because it was an honors class, Prof. Ching upped the level of difficulty. His explanations weren't clear all the time, but is always willing to help (which was definitely useful). You have to study the concepts taught, but once you get the hang of the basics, everything becomes else easy.
Seriously very impressed how this guy lectures. In a huge lecture class, he still answers questions, talks story, and cracks jokes. He makes econ so easy because he literally breaks down everything. I barely had to study for the exams. Exams are multiple choice. TAKE CHING!
Cool guy, but his teaching style can be confusing. He emails the powerpoints and reads it off directly. No point of going to class. Make a friend so you know whats up with quizzes and homework.Makes mistakes when trying to draw graphs which confuses everyone.Exams are multiple choice and short answers.Textbook is not really needed.Just MYECONLAB
Online homework, online quizzes, 1 in-class quiz, 3 midterms, 1 cumulative final. he drops the worst homework, quiz, and midterm. Dont have to go to class. He rambles off a lot. Not a very chill class.
Dr. Ching has a great sense of humor and a great understanding of economics. However, sometimes his lectures can get off track. Online homework and quizzes, 3 midterms, and 1 final. The multiple choice questions on his tests are sometimes worded poorly, but the short answer questions are relatively easy. Overall, decent professor.
Great teacher. I've had him for Econ 130, 131, and 321. He always teaches what will be on his exams (no surprises). If you have questions in class, don't be afraid to ask him to clarify, he is excellent about elaborating on what he teaches. For exams, study the power points and your own notes (especially for 321).
David Ching is very straightforward with what he expects, unless he is surprising you for the better (Dropped our lowest exam scores). The class has a decent amount of work, but if you pay attention and are interested it is a great class. The exams are mostly multiple choice, but make sure to study!
Easy easy easy. If you want an easy stats class, then this is the professor to take it from. The only thing I don't like about this guy is that his grading scale is not very clear; he doesn't say (or at least I think he doesn't since I hardly went to class) he only gives out one A+ to the highest grade in the class and it is not in the syllabus.
Very nice guy. Hes pretty funny too. The class is interesting and not too difficult. Tests are fair but if you just read the textbook chapters you'll be fine. He cares about your grades so he tries not to be too harsh.
David Ching overall is a great professor! He is teaching something that you would automatically believe is dry, like economics. However, he does a good job explaining concepts to students. If you ever have questions during class, do not be afraid to ask! He is very helpful and enthusiastic. He wants you to understand the material and do well.
Professor Ching was by far my favorite proff at UH. A little confusing at times, but just review the notes he gives in class and you should be fine! No book needed as well and his midterms are all multiple choice.
Worst professor I've had so far. thinks he's funny, but class is so boring. Occasionally gets lost and messes up, and laughs to cover it up. boring class, boring teacher, no fun at all. tried to enjoy it, but absolutely could not. Exams are super hard compared to what is taught. definitely not a 100 level class.
He's a funny and casual professor. He tends to make jokes about his personal life (irrelevant most of the time) but it keeps the class awake. He provided PPTs so I didn't need to buy a textbook. As long as you can understand and apply the basics, you'll be fine.
Don't take his class, he is confusing and makes things hard than need be. I went to every class and took notes and was still so confused, at one study sesh no one wanted to say what they got the one of the exams, so just a warning, this class is hard
Makes macro harder than it needs to be and unorganized in class sometimes. 3 one page essays, 1 five page essay due the same day as the cumulative final. 3 midterms and final are each 15% so midterms count a lot. 2/3 midterms and his final were short answer/essay questions and explaining why answers are T/F. Standards are too high even for honors.
This class was more difficult than it should have been even for an honors course. Mr.Ching was helpful at times however he gets confusing during lectures and tends to jump all over the place. He is pretty unorganized but if you're confused he'll help you. The worst part tho is he doesn't post any grades.
kinda absentminded proff. but very helpful. i thought i would get the A+ bcuz how little classmates seemed to understand. it's not an easy class, but only confusing if you don't study, imo. maybe cuz i'm an engineering major, or i just cared more about understanding than the rest. i learned a lot, and for an honors class, it ain't that hard.
I took his Econ131 in summer. Although it was so intensive in summer, but I could made it by asking him questions every after class. He seemed really like and familiar witi it. So, if you don't understand something, ask him. He always teach kindly and you would be okay!
Professor Ching is often times very absent minded. He frequently messes up equations and facts and has to back track on something you covered several lessons before. His examples are strange and he is very vague. Our final was also 50% of our grade, so if you mess up there is no chance for recovery. I do not recommend him.
instructor ching's class was not too difficult. He's a very relaxed and funny instructor but his midterms were kind of difficult. however, he offers some extra credit towards the end of semester. Econ's just one of those classes where you gotta put in the effort to get a high grade. overall, satisfied with his class.
I do not recommend taking this teacher. He's very absent minded although he reads off the power points. Seems he talks more about himself and surfing rather than the actual class material. He favors students and does not answer emails if he does not like you. I would avoid taking him ever again.
Lectures are clear and interesting. Homework is easy and quizzes follow the format of the worksheets given in discussion session. Very straight forward course. Easy going professor, helps if you have problems with doing homework and is lenient about turning it in late.
Ching is a funny, knowledgeable guy, but his teaching is kind of all over the place. This class tackles issues in Hawaii, but it's more of an open discussion on what's happening in Hawaii with some quizzes and homework here and there. If you take any of his classes, I recommend attending each class because he hardly ever follows a syllabus.
very unorganized class and no response to emails. This is a 300 level course and we covered basic econ topics for half the semester, following with not much else. The book gives some insight into Hawaii tourism and history, but lacks useful substance like the rest of the class. Easy A though if you do a good project and turn in what is assigned.
interesting class. a fun break from harder science courses and you learn about viewing things from an "economic" perspective. opened my eyes to a lot of issues currently and in the past. as a grad student i think my classmates seemed unfamiliar with "adult" issues, and may have been too young to grasp (except for the one "older" dude in class)
Ching seems like a great guy but I do not appreciate his teaching style. Don't email him if you need help - he's not good at replying. Instead see him after class. He likes getting to know you! The content was okay (boring). Study your notes and expect to have a couple of quizzes here and there. I recommend another professor if you like order
changes homework due date the day the homework is done without notifying students its due. He laughs at students and says its not his job to tell us when the homework is due.
The honor class is easy. You just need to listen to the lectures, do online myeconlab homework and there are three exams. Really easy.
Homework are done through myEconLab, so buying the book (or the access code) is a must. Take good notes in class, study the multiple choice question on myEconLab and with some good memorization, you should be able pass the class. He sometimes go off topic but sometimes he is just trying to relate the problem with the topic.
You won't really need the textbook because he basically goes over the same content in class, but you do need the access code because all the homework is online. His lectures are pretty interesting, and most of the time you'll get out of class early. Talk to him after class if you have questions, he likes to see students show effort.
No midterms, but five quizzes and a final. I really liked Prof. Ching. He's really personable and helps the students. He is a big scatterbrained though. Lots of online homework from the Pearson Mathlab but homeworks really help and a lot of quiz/final questions are pulled from there. Did not use textbook but used the workbook the bundle came with.
RUN! Don't walk! Please believe all the poor comments because I think he wrote the good ones. He is funny that's true but very confusing, teaches fast and hardly covers needed material. Tons of homework and expects his TA to do all his work. The worst professor. I think he likes to fail students so they would have to take class over. BEWARE
I took his class for MacroEconmics my freshman year and he was great! His lectures covered pretty much everything that the homework will ask for, and also any questions that will be on the midterms/ final. He was open to questions and consultations any time. He was funny, and definitely a chill teacher. You just need to try and pay attention!
Lectures are not mandatory but helpful for tests/quizes (ppt lectures). He puts everything to his TA's outside of class. I heard that other econ teachers were much easier but he is fair, almost everything is talked about in class but I you have to study if you want to get an A. Homeworks can be long but the questions are similar to the test.
This was a summer course. The class was comprehensive and very relatable to real world. Consistently made examples that were relatable and clarified material/concepts. Overall the material is not very difficult, so if you study and pay attention to his class, you will do fine. There was online homework, but it was multiple choice and easy to do
His honors class is much better than the regular classes. Smaller classes means he's much more focused on the student. Lectures are relatable - he gives you examples of economics in real life - but you will need to study for his midterms and final. I'd definitely take him again.
Great professor local guy and uses good everyday examples for the lessons he puts up the powerpoint online but you should go to the lectures to really understand the lesson and get good grades on the quizes and tests the homework is multiple choice online and are pretty easy takes an hour at most
He teaches with powerpoints and written examples. He tries to use examples that students can relate to. He explains well, but if you do not understand, he is willing to teach you in another way. He loves it when students ask questions. Homework is done online and quizzes are based on the homework. Textbook is needed, but only for its code.
I was in an Honors class for Principles of Microeconomics and it was my first Economics class. I did ok. Ching is a nice guy. The class moved quickly and 4 quizzes occurred over the semester. Homework online was assigned weekly which wasn't too difficult. He said he would take attendance randomly throughout the semester but he only took it once.
Pretty good teacher. Find it very annoying when teacher comes late to class almost every time.
Disclaimer: I am not an economics major. However, considering that math is my weak point and I have zero background in the subject, I learned a hell of a lot. Super funny, relatable examples, focuses on helping us where we need it. Good pace. I actually enjoyed the class; definitely will prove useful in the future. Taking him again for ECON 131A.
Ching is okay. I took him for ECON 130 and I really enjoyed the class, but his 131 honors section had a heavy load considering it was an introduction class. We were assigned multiple papers during the semester with a final cumulative paper due the same day as the final. Didn't give enough instruction for people with no economics background to write
Ching was a pretty good professor. All homework through myeconlab and worth most of your grade, but its easy to get full credit on those. Nice guy and tries to keep lectures interesting with stories. Says he will take attendance but doesn't. Definitely helped my understanding of econ and made a 100 level class as painless as possible
David Ching is a great teacher. I took him for Stats (econ 321). I was very concerned about taking statistics before this class, because I'm not very good at math. He does a great job with his lectures. He mixes his lectures with note taking and solving example problems. His class is not too fast paced. I fully recommend him for ECON 321.
He is a really cool professor. Teaches the material well and makes you really enjoy Economics. The work is simple and the homework is bearable. Classes are usually fully packed so get there a little early. Nice guy! Great professor! Get that IClicker, and use the book for any additional help.
Great teacher. Makes everything easy to understand and will inform you on specifics of what to study before tests. Drops the lowest test score. Homework can be difficult, but that's it.
David Ching was the first person to teach me about economic concepts. At first I struggled but his lectures are always a big help and he finds a way to make things relatable. The TA was a tough and unforgiving grader, so quizzes were a little challenging, but overall great class.
He explains concepts well and highlights problems that students struggle with. Unfortunately he doesnt prepare you for quizzes and doesnt have dates set for homework. So be prepared to be caught off guard by quiz questions and homework dates.
Professor Ching wrote his own workbook that he uses in class and is overall very knowledgable in his field. Even though he teaches a statistics class, he makes class interesting with funny examples. Only grades from three things: Homework, quizzes and final exam.
The jump from principles (econ130) to intermediate (econ300) can be difficult for some because it compounds on what was taught in principles. But he is generous with his time and makes sure the class understands a topic before moving on. There were times when he knew previous classes had difficulty with a section so he spent more time to help us.
Professor Ching was probably one of the best professors I had; he's very approachable after class if you have any lingering questions on homework or on the in-class lecture. The workbook you use for the class is made by him. Your final grade is based off online homework assignments, 3 quizzes, and one final (no midterm). Would recommend!
David Ching is a great professor. I took an econ class in highschool and absolutely hated it but professor Ching actually made me enjoy learning about economics. He sends out his lecture slides but simply going over the slides at home won't be enough as he explains it really well during the class and does examples and such on the board.
Cool guy. Show up to class though and talk to him so he can have a name to a face! He really enjoys knowing his students are engaged in the material.
Prof. Ching is a great prof. His lectures are very good, so you do not need to read the textbook. He covers everything that is necessary for the quizzes (which are technically midterms). He also gives review guides. Lots of homework questions on MyEconLab, but not too bad. He takes attendance randomly and allows for 3 unexcused absences.
He's GREAT with communication. Also gives out LOTS of homework, all online and due dates often change, but its 40% of your grade. Go to class, he's entertaining, gives good explanations, and passionate, but if you don't go, he emails you all the slides. His quizzes are mostly multiple choice (30% of grade) and final has quiz questions plus some!
Very knowledgeable on what he teaches. HOWEVER, such a bad experience with him teaching online classes due to Covid-19. He was not good at communicating, and told his students about the final exam 1 day prior to the semester ending. Emails are always very condescending and rude. Really hard to get in contact with. The TA was a lifesaver.
Chang was great teacher, but when went online was hard 4 me to focus on material. He made vids for evey class when classes stopped.. good and informative but to long, but at least better than my others. great with communications, Seemed way more in depth for a intro class should be. Final was looong&hard, but he promised to curve, so we'll see.
CHING was great instructor. Covid transition was smooth with youtube lecture videos and email communications. He's supportive like a coach. Fun to talk to outside of class. Quizes and exams challenging. Never once took attendance. HOWEVER David is serious about economics. Slackers won't like him. But if want to really learn econ, take him
He's ku. Lots of homework but explains good. Curves class good too, maybe bcuz Covid-19 but was generous
Easy online HW with walkthroughs. Pay attention to lectures, take good notes, and the HW will make sense. Exams were not too hard, and not too easy; it was difficult to know what material was going to be on the exam. Applies course material to modern examples, which helped me understand the concepts. Calls out students making too much noise
I took Dereks summer class for ECON 131. I must say that if you are considering doing this be prepared to not have a life. Every few days you have 10 assignments due, each with 50 questions. 500 questions on average every few days. And some questions have multiple questions within the questions. Worst class I ever took
Im taking this online class now. There is lots of easy hw. Avg 3 chapters/wk, but with about 250 mult ch questions per week *in total*. If procrastinate (he warns not to) it'll feel like tons. Theres 5 quizzes total based on repeat HW questions, dropping the lowest grade. I spend 6+hrs/wk studying (summer pace fast). Great communication
Lots of assignments, but so much freedom in this class. I am getting an A, nad I get to skip the last quiz and final exam! I'm done without needing to study the last chapters LOL! You have to work for it, but it ain't too bad. If you lazy though, GOOD LUCK! Never seen or spoke to prof, but lots of email and info posted
This is an online class. If you do well on everything early, like an earlier review said, you can finish early. I can skip the last quiz and the final and I'm getting an A or A+. Only written help, and no required meetings accept for quizzes (and test) at set times. Homework sets don't have late penalties. Easy class, loved it
Class was asynch so there were no lectures. I did all the quizzes and was happy with my grade so I didn't have to take the final (if you took the quizzes you didn't need to take the final but that could change). Drops lowest quiz and hw score too. Quizzes can be a bit hard to just review the hw and notes before and you'll be fine.
online asinch class lots of reading no live lectures but did a video lectuer for most chapters. lots of homework. i'd make sure i did quizes if could do over again then i could skipped final. time limits for quiz was short and stressful but after all was done he seemed to be be real easy grader. suprised i learned lots even tho online
Very organized online class. Clear expectations but need to pay attention to your duties. No nonsense prof. Wants us to do well but let's us succeed or fail by our own actions. Follow his instructions and expecations and should be easy class. Videos posted are helpful. Lots of homework. Quizzes are too fast, but easy grader it seems
One of the easiest online classes I have taken. He sends you "discussion post announcements" to which you must respond with a simple thank you or acknowledge that you have read it. Homework is once a week and takes 1-2 hours MAX. Videos for each chapter are very helpful and paced well. Overall easy class with little effort needed for an A.
I suggest avoid. He's overly strict with his "reading posted info" policy. He deducts participation points from your grade if you ask questions on info he posted already. So much homework. I didn't find his lecture videos made helpful at all. Timed quizzes were way too fast. Unfair. Lame personal intro video. Harsh grader.
Professor Ching is the best! Do your homework and you will pass. Everything is online and the quizzes are very similar to the homework. You can take 5 quizzes instead of the final and only your highest 4 scores are used to calculate your grade. Be a responsible adult, don't make excuses, and don't ask stupid questions and you will get an A for sure
This teacher does the very least and makes you learn alot on your own. He is sloppy and does not care. He uses pearson so 120+$ on top of tuition. All class work and exams and reading are on there, so the teacher does nothing but rant and complain. Would not recommend.
Excellent experience for online class. He does custom video lecture for each chapter and a summary write up , flexible grading, fairly easy to get onlnine meeting for help. Main irritating thing is that he does go off A LOT about cheaters and slackers. Oh, and quizzes are rushed, but grading scale pretty forgiving. Can be cranky and strict
This is 2nd class I had from Ching. I did worst 1st time (econ130) because I didnt understand rules of class and had deductions. Reading his syllabus and posted info really helps to understand whats expected and how to do well in his class. His macro class is more interesting but harder. He is seem grouchy but teaches good. Watch his vids.
Online homework for each chapter was pretty simple, no hard due dates for homework but don't fall behind or it'll be a lot to catch up on later. You can take 5 quizzes and then opt out of the final exam if you're happy with your grade but the quizzes must be completed on particular days and if you miss one of the 5 you have to take the final
If you want to pass you should study for test beforehand. Homework assignments due dates are self-regulated, but it is better to follow the suggested due dates for time management. Attending lectures help and I utilized the lecture videos as well. If you need help just ask him.
This professor is insufferable. I understand that some students cheat and slack but I am someone who takes my grades seriously but even on the first day I found myself being stressed over this class and spent hours trying to familiarize myself with his policy. He also sends rude emails and I was scared to ask any questions in fear of losing points.
Easy grader. Expected a C or low B, somehow got A-. Flexible grading. Follow instructions and watch videos. Frankly I think my homework carried me because my quizzes were meh.
This class was really simple for me, just do your work and you get an A. The etext is required because that is where the homework and quizzes are held. As for the homework, the deadlines are optional. The only work for this class is the homework assignments and the 5 quizzes spread across the entirety of the semester (which counts as the final).
Dude came off as a hard azz and scared me into studying. Thought i would get an bad grade but did better than i thought. Learned alot but so glad this class is over!!!!! Watch his videos and read his warnings or you can get screwed. Take another prof if you don't like stress!!! Kinda joking. I like him now and kinda like econ now to.
This guy came off as intimidating on the first day of instruction. Told us not to ask him any questions if it is already on the syllabus/forums or he will deduct points. I didn't watch any of his lectures, but read the textbook. Make sure to do the homework and quizzes and if you did all of those, the final exam won't be mandatory.
Took Econ 130 in the fall and decided to take his class again. Recommend taking his class. Homework is a lot; but if you spread out the work you will do just fine. Since there are only 5 quizzes through the semester, your homework matters. Listen to the lectures as some of the free response is in his lectures. Good class overall.
Big man knows his stuff. Took the class over the summer. Probably about 2 hours of work every day. I learned a ton.
He's a funny guy and cares a lot about his students. His lectures are interesting, and he is always open to questions. You will get good grades if you do your homework and take notes. He answers emails promptly as though they're text messages. Not a hard class! Take his class!!
I had Professor Ching and honestly, the class was a mess. He wouldn't let us ask any questions if we could find it on the syllabus and was rude. He would get upset if students would ask questions during the beginning of the semester. He is really intimidating.
Ching is a funny guy, though he can be stern if needed. Always available for questions. Went fast through lectures so the uploaded slides were my best friend. Study hard for big final. Ching doesn't give out extra credit so beware, there was one XC opportunity at the end of the year but it was only worth a few points. Online hw assignments/quiz.
I think Professor Ching is great! He's very good at explaining the concepts and allows us to ask questions after teaching important topics. Economics itself is a hard subject, but Ching did his best to make it easier to understand and was entertaining in lectures. There's homework for each chapter, four quizzes, and a final exam.
Great guy. Really cares about the material and importants. inspired me to do better in class and job. Walks in right before class starts. Not easy class but. Don't take if u only gotta. but if you wanna, then do. That;s my best advice.
I took an online course and the only forms of credit are homework, tests, and the occasional extra credit. He prefaced that his tests are hard and put you in a time crunch. Lectures are once a week and range from 30-50 minutes and the homework lasted 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 hours after the lecture. David is a fun character but hard professor.
He may seem standoffish at first, but if you communicate with him as he states, he is responsive. As well, he puts out the effort you put in, I would take a class from him again, he was kind to me, and very patient and understanding towards me personally.
Professor's grading criteria was very straight forward. Five main tests throughout the class and if you did well on those the final exam was optional. Lots of reading and notes.
Professor had very straight forward grading criteria. Had 5 major tests and if done well final was optional. Lots of reading and notes.
Professor had very straight forward criteria. Heavy on readings and notes. Five major quizes and if done well final was optional.
This class was pretty easy. Just make sure you do the assignments on time and follow the material.
David was a great professor ! He answered emails pretty quickly and would help when you asked. Some things learned were just a little confusing and there was quite a bit of homework that it got sometimes frustrating but he would give you an extension if needed and there's a help option. Overall David is a great professor.
I actually enjoyed how smooth this class was. I didn't find it overwhelming especially since I have other classes to attend to. One chunk of 35-45 questions for homework every week, but they are easy and can be found in the textbook.
Online class wasn't too bad! He gives 5 quizzes throughout the semester and a final. The class was fun just lots to memorize
Professor has a straightforward system - 5 quizzes and optional final if you do well. Lots of reading and notes required, but unstuck AI was a lifesaver for study prep. Overall, a challenging but fair class.
I've heard from others that he is intimidating to his online students (just to threaten they don't cheat) but I promise if you take his class in person he's great! I felt comfortable to ask questions, always understand him clearly in lectures and there is little homework and it's easy (35ish questions but most are MC and you get 3 tries.
This class will have like one homework for each week.
heavy homework and quizz
Amazing, but challenging class. Pearson HW (25%), 4 Quizzes (35%), a Final Exam (35%), and Participation (5%). Ching is with you every step of the way, making sure that you understand the material (pay extra attention to graphs). He is a funny and chill guy; his lectures never bore me. MVP is Jacob Clifford on YT, couldn't have made it out w/o him.
Overall, David Ching was a great professor and his class was relatively easy. He gives loads of extra credit opportunities and sometimes sends out emails to remind students to complete homework/quizzes. I took his async class and thought that the course load was light (1 homework a week) and the quizzes were manageable. Would take again!
Professional without being boring. He was right about one thing. If you do the readings first, the class lecture about that chapter will be easy and a good review. Do the chapter lecture first, and it'll make the readings a little easier. Super easy grader. Got a 50% on the final and still passed with a B because of my other weighted stuff.
I am taking his next econ as well. Very good professor, just watch the lectures and turn in material on time. He is kind, and always responds in a timely manner. No final if you finish all 5 quizzes on time. Take this class, I suggest it honestly. Not a lot of work either.
His lectures were enjoyable because of the real-life examples he used to make the concepts more understandable. Attendance is taken sporadically throughout the semester. Very kind and would take another class taught by him.
I took Professor Ching's class online and it was so easy. The homework is long about 35-50 questions per homework but it is so worth it. If you take all 5 of the quiz's you don't have to take the final.
This class is definitely pretty challenging. Study with other people to nail content because there is SO MUCH CONTENT. Definitely do all the homework and DO EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITES!! I failed the final which was worth a good chunk of the overall grade and the EC helped me pass. Ching is very nice but also doesn't play with the grades he gives LOL
He doesn't respond kindly to emails. As in he does not try to understand the situation, even with clear communication and doesn't respond back professionally. During his online lectures on youtube his audio cuts out alot and he does not do the best job explaining the material.
I've had three of his courses. Best prof I had at UH. Interesting and knowlegable. Clear instructions and expectations. Provides good reminders (even though he says he won't), and responds quickly to email questions. A few of us took all the classes together, and agree ching the best. Seems to us only lazy and bad students seem to not like him
Very interesting teacher and knows his stuff. Challenging material but he made it interesting. Got tough when I fell behind. Need to take notes in lecture. Need to pay attention and take notes for the hard quiz questions, which always get couple on quizzes. Ask questions in class, he weirldy really likes it
easy class. ok prof. just follow his rules and it should all be g.
Took async stats with Professor Ching this summer. was a little intimidated at first with having to email in photo ID but class was chill. Cengage HW, 5 quizzes or 1 final for 50% of final grade. Have to show/submit work for quizzes but nothing difficult even with no math background. Very nice and understanding even with mistakes. Would recommend.
This is the second class I have taken with Ching. He is a quick grader and has clear criteria. Homework is easy, and so are the tests. If you take 5 tests throughout the semester on time, you do not have to take the final. He is a great teacher as well. Take him ONLINE, not IN PERSON.
Lectures are easy to follow. If confused, he makes sure to explain until you get it which I like. He's very engaging and enough time to finish the homework. I recommend taking his class. Very awesome professor.
Good teacher just hard material. Talked at a lot, if topic is hard take notes during lecture, do practice problems, and ask questions/for help. Lots of questions for homework and tests are closed note closed book. Need to understand graphs. Do extra credit, can raise your grade a whole percent.
He was very goood, his TA this semester wasnt the best tho.
While Professor Ching himself was a good professor, he did not show up for exams; he let his TA do all of the exams and grading. This was a problem as his TA, Samichchha, was very rude, unclear about what would be on exams, and took a very long time to grade. I would absolutely give him a 5/5; he cares and is very funny. He just needs to be there.
lectures lasted about 30-70 minutes long. Homework was very long, but easy to do. Take 5 tests = skip final, but can also take final if your grades aren't good. Homework about 50 questions, tests about 30 + draw graphs. TA and Prof super caring, just don't ask goofy questions. lots of ec opportunities. Reasonable time given to do work. Take ASYNC!
