A great guy and incredibly helpful
Very cool teacher - very easygoing. Interesting class, but a lot of reading.
Good Professor, out of all the intro courses i've taken, he's been the best professor in the big lecture halls. Tries to make lecture fun and interesting
No Comments
Good teacher, class is very fair, he doesn't try to cover too much unlike most intro classes. He is a Red Sox fan but the class is still worth taking. Make sure you get a good T.A. though as they will be doing all the grading.
Great prof, makes class interesting and gets ppl involved. Be careful to get a TA that speaks english well cuz you deal with them a lot. Don't skip lecture cuz he sometimes gives bonus points to the ppl who go all the time
prof clark is amazing, he's super nice, super clear, tries to get to know people as long as they try to get to know them. my advice: a) do readings no matter what b) do work early and on time c) get to know him d)he's a hottie!
Amazing Prof. Really funny, and makes the lectures really interesting. Easy to get to know if you try at all. Very helpful. Take any class you can with him.
He's a really interesting teacher who make the course applicable to current events. When you take his class, think Keg Stand (you'll understand)
Great Prof! His tests are reasonable. Go to class & do All the readings. But his lectures are actually interesting. He if funny, oh... and HOT.
Professor Clark is a great professor that has a great liking to the subject at hand. He is readily available for his students. Instructs his TA's to give pop quizzes in discussion. Lots of reading for this class that you will need to stay on top of!
He's a great teacher and really funny. However, he's a hard grader and he always gives a lot of reading. Not an easy A but any means.
the best teacher in binghamton. hard topics, a lot of reading, and he sometimes gets stuck with****ty classrooms, but he is still the man. Most well-read, intellectually stimulating dude there is.
Professor Clark is great! He makes boring material interesting and always manages to lighten up class discussions. Moreover, he is a repository of information and is always availible to meet with students. Take his classes!
Great professor. Just great. My favorite in the political science department thus far. He's clearly a very bright man, explains things very well and makes an effort to bring the entire class into discussions.
He's good at explaining hard concepts. Teaches in a wholisitic manner, combines lecture notes that dont replace the need for doing the reading but greatly compliment it. Clark will challenge your abilities, but it will be worth it. Take his class
love him, loved the class. material somewhat hard...but interesting
Such a smart and funny guy... really knows his stuff and makes class great.. sometimes it can get boring.. clas is a lot of work but if you do it you will suceed... hes a red sox fan though so watch out
Great teacher, really entertaining, keeps class fun. Go to class, there's pop quizzes. A nice guy, actually made me interested in the readings.
Made me sick to my stomach! does not know how to keep students interested. terrible teacher. his problem is that he doesn't like teaching. his answers are vague and extremely unclear. he does not know how to simplify difficult ideas. Stay away. I repeat, stay away! only in binghamton!
The class is a living nighmare/hell. I had to study my ass off everyday. this guy is enough to give you a nervous breakdown. the worst of it is when you, god forbid!, say something he doesn't agree with.
He is kinda lazy. very boring. forces his opinion on you. His teaching style is just to insult and patronize everyone. He grades based on his personal feelings. Easy F!
Alright, there comes a point where it should be against the law for professors like Clark to be teaching. Clark is boring and very hard to understand. avoid his class at all costs yo!
Bad personal experience!
What are you guys saying? The class is the only one that can hold my attention BECAUSE of Clark's easy-going, humorous, and involved discussions. You don't necessarily have to read to be involved in the discussions, but don't expect to get a good grade on papers if you don't.
Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad
absolutely miserable. i didn't learn a single thing in this class. kill yourself before u even think about registering for one of his classes. seriously.
His lectures have no substance, and whatever he is discussing it only leads to the students debating on the Bush regime. Presents abstract concepts so no student could understand, is virtually unavailible for office hours. Very unfriendly as well, and has clear favorites who he defends by putting down other students.
Awesome professor! My favorite in the poli sci department. His lectures are entertaining and involving, and he is always willing to help and talk to you. Definitely take a class with him if you don't mind participating and writing papers, because you will do well.
You would think he would get better as a teacher with time but I don't see any evidence of it here. Clueless, vague, unclear and then, to add to the fun, clueless teaching fellows mark assignments. Does it have to be that way?
Be very very scared. Worse teacher to ever teach at Binghamton. He talks to the boards not his students.Unclear in class, seemingly unwilling to help, does minimum prep. He was so confused that he helped people "unlearn" the material. Was unfair in final course grade. I feel cheated.
Miserable professor. Boring, bring a pillow! If I was tested on his family, I would have gotten an A. He plays favorites. You have to study extra extra extra hard. class grade averages are low. I believe he would be a better firecracker in the Mississippi!! Not a fun class that is for sure.
why is he still teaching???
not an easy a by any means, not even an easy b. that aside, clark is very fair, knows when you are bs-ing and is a really nice guy. his classes arent the easiest but they are really entertaining, really interesting and hes always willing to help you out.
Prior to his class, I had a 4.0. After his class, my GPA fell to a 3.0. You can do the math.. !
Womanized. Reading is too long. Grades based on his personal feelings of students and their RACES. His inability to communicate effectively is unacceptable for a Professor! You must be willing to kiss up in order to get the grade you want. What a waste of time!!!!!
i liked poli sci before i took this class. the class just confused the hell out of me. Class...was ****. He would just rant on whatever he wanted that day. and even if u were trying to participate he would ignore you and pick on his favorites! useless class.
What a jerk! Made it his job to make your life a living hell.Treats students like crap. It must make him feel important to be such a sarcastic person. Goes out of his way to fail students. He picks his favorites, but those who don't make his list will fail. Compare your test answers with others in the class to try to ensure that he doesn't grade yo
This dude has tenor up his butt. He sucks badly. His test are not even the same questions mixed around. I don't know how the hell he got his PhD degree!!!
I can't belive all of these ridiculous ratings! Clark is one of the best professors in Bing! He clearly knows his material, yet he's always open to people's opinions. Though he's easygoing and tends to lecture spontaneously, he's organized and very clear about what he expects. Finally, he's very understanding and always willing to get to know stude
I disagree with the last rating. Extremely unfriendly, boring, and judgemental of students. Always talked down to students and had little if any office hours.

If i'm to be honest-lectures were very interesting, the material itself fascinating and the atmosphere is laid back. For some reason though the prof insists on giving only D's (or F's) and A's! I am a streight A student who does all my work and participates..i got a C. That said, if you "grasp" the objective you're set. If you dont, your screwed.
He was really great...really tough but always helpful...always around the department during the day...can't really imagine him living up to the other negative comments....he is difficult but class is rewarding.
Clark is really helpful and makes content as interesting and as clear as possible. Relatively easy class as long as you do the work and the textbook clarifies most concepts.
omgosh prof. clark is so cool. he does a really good ross perot impersonation, and it seemed like he was really interested in making sure we LEARNED about the subject rather than stressing us out about grades.
I cannot believe what is said here about prof. clark! I thought he was great- he knows his material and he is ALWAYS willing to help students. He has reasonable expectations, his tests are fair and he's funny. Anyone who can wake me up and keep my interest at 8:30 in the morning gets five stars. I'd recommend him hands down.
prof. clark is a nice guy, and somewhat helpful, but his class was horrible. So unorganized, lectures never stayed on topic, which is important when participation was 15% of the grade. While he was helpful, it took forever to get feedback on papers. If you're not a big talker, expect low grades.
Prof. Clark is an amazing professor. I was fascinated by his lecture and the course material. You want to do well you have to play the game. Great guy.
He is very biased professor and does not like colored students. He would give you a low grade to discourage you from continuing you education. Not helpful at all.
Clarke is clear and consistent with what he expects from his students, and with the material he covers. He likes participation, but doesn't play favorites. He'll talk to you if you talk to him. He gives pop quizzes, so come to class & discussion. Other than that, he's fair (and he brings humor into every lecture). He wants you to actually learn.
This guy really is a horrible horrible teacher. He makes an easy concept so difficult to understand and makes this intro class unbelievably difficult just to be difficult. He rambles and isn't funny as much as he trys to be. I regret taking this class and switched my major from poli sci to history because of it.
This guy is the worst! A true sob. We all hate him. He makes his own show in the class. Not knowledgable at all. TA's are really dumb. Once the TA said 'i have no idea about international relations' in world politics class. Are you serious?!? Never take this class. Also he is **** and fascist. He thinks he is Jay Leno or something.
Seriously the stupidest class. Clark takes concepts that literally could be taught in 5 minutes and spends an hour and a half rambling. The textbook is incoherent and impossible to study from. You can read every word of the textbook and fail every quiz. TA was ridiculous with grading. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. you will learn nothing and hate yourself
terrible.worst class ever.made me want to change my major.he made it hard even for intro class.stay away
The comments below completely shock me. Professor Clark is a knowledgable, passionate professor who makes sure you understand the material. The work load is easy if you have your wits about you and know whats going on in the world. The quizes cover what's going on in class, nothing more nothing less. I would definately take another class with him.
Not sure what all these negative comments are about. This class is completely reasonable difficulty & workload wise. Clark does is very best to make lecture animated & interesting. The textbook is EXTREMELY accessible and study friendly. Exemptions from the final if you have a 90+. He's approachable & willing to help students. Keeps bb updated.
very difficult class. hes a good guy and everything but class is boring. definitely there to help but his TA's are straight up pricks. wouldnt suggest the class unless u love politics
At first I was very interested in the subject but after figuring out the syllabus his form of grading is completely unfair. Unless you participate in section, get A's on his quizzes and on the term paper you will not receive anything higher than a B.
When you enter this class, it feels like a joke and honestly it is. Your grade is given just so arbitrarily, it's unbelievable. Unlike of those of legitimate classes, this professor takes your pop quizzes and "participation" in class seriously. Students say dumb and annoying things in class and they're likely to get a higher grade.
He's a cruel teacher. He doesn't put any effort to helping you do well.He tries to hide it by trying to look cool, but it becomes obvious at the end of the semester that he just doesn't give a damn.
If you are a pre-med student that had no interest in politics or history before college, this class isn't for you. For whoever is good at history and has an interest in politics, as long as you do the reading and pay attention in class, you are set given you put effort. Great personality and to office hours helps. I'd recommend any class he teache
No idea why he is so disliked here. He makes the material interesting in lecture, and quizzes/participation are easy ways to boost the grade; if you don't do them, the grade will suffer. I was never turned away when I asked for help or sought clarification; very easy-going. Also took 117 with him, all around a great professor.
He does not have good oversight of his TAs and does not pick good TAs. Also the class is not set up in a fair way and if you have an issue with participation, that can't be resolved because that's between you and the TA in the discussion section. Expectations/grading/Assignments are not clear. TAs control too much of participation grade.
This man is awful. Does not care about students, has useless pop quizzes, has awful TAs, rambles on about nonsense. Pretends to be a good guy, but he's fooling no one. Avoid at ALL COSTS, especially if you actually like politics, considering this class has nothing to do with it.
David Clark is a nice man. When approaching him he is nice and explains things. However, I found this class extremely difficult and have NEVER done so poorly in a class before. There is no midterm curve, the POP quizzes are IMPOSSIBLE, and the material heavy.
Helpful during office hours, but rambles during class. Textbook is online, which has been incredibly inconvenient. Pop quizzes are impossible. Grading system is unfair and his TAs are horrible.
Good professor. Helpful
It is extremely hard to do well in this class. Participation counts for a whole lot of your grade. He also has pop quizzes that are way too specific on the readings and grades unfairly. Highly advise you to not take this class unless you want to screw with your GPA. He could be a funny guy in class and may spark interest in you, but DON'T DO IT!
I think Clark was a good professor and as long as you did the assigned reading which could be read in an hour, you'd understand what was going on in lecture. Quizzes were quite difficult and unnecessarily so but if you paid attention and said one thing in discussion you'd get participation credit. Overall, a helpful teacher
Professor Clark made the material interesting and easy to understand. I found him to be fair with tests and quizzes and was never surprised when taking them because he made it pretty clear as to what should be expected. I definitely recommend taking him if you're interested in political science.
Definitely not an easy A class. However, it's not extremely hard to get a good grade. Just gotta go to discussion and participate and read the assigned stuffs (quiz mostly comes from here). Take time to write good essays and you should be able to get B~A- even if you are not a poly-sci major.
I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about. The pop quizzes were easy if you payed attention in lecture and read what was assigned, but that should be common sense. You have to put in effort to get a good grade. The TA you want is JIN note she does have an accent but she's really helpful!!
Really nice guy. Pop quizzes that you need to study for. One paper that wasn't difficult. Lectures are interesting. Textbook is very long-just get the vocab, don't worry about the rest of the textbook's content. Decent class. I learned something too! (Intro to World Politics)
He seems to be a very funny and nice professor at the beginning, you will learn quickly that its an act if you take his class. Trust me don't do it.
He acts nice but its an act. However, his class is not that hard and the textbook readings really don't need to be done. Just focus on what he posts on BB and the book he assigns, learn the vocab in the textbook.
Clark was a good professor who knows his subject well but can be a very difficult grader. There are only a few opportunities to boost your grade, so get on top of things early on and go speak to him. Most of the class is open discussion. Overall, Clark is knowledgeable in his subject but a harsh grader.
Comes across as a nice guy, but it's a game. He is one of the hardest graders I've ever had, and is very non-specific in what he is looking for. DO NOT take him if you don't absolutely have to!
Dave Clark is the worst professor on campus. This guy doesn't have any teaching skills. His political interests are irrelevant. He isn't inspirational by any means, but someone who lives in his own head! A fake guy who wishes to look smart and cool (sometimes intentionally confuses everyone to achieve it). Avoid, especially if you are a minority!
Fantastic teacher, very helpful, great lecturer. He gives pop quizzes every couple of weeks, but hints at when they will be so you know when to study. Reading of outside articles and the text book are definitely mandatory because he does not lecture about those in class.
He would be a fantastic high school teacher but he isn't the best professor. If you're an incoming freshman, don't take this class. It's not worth it.
Go to lecture-- his lectures do not come straight out of the textbook.
I underestimated this class in the beginning and did not apply myself but if I had I feel like I would have liked it more. Definitely pay attention and go to him for help.
WORST class ever. I have to request a late withdrawal. He is absolutely not receptive to anything, he is not helpful, and his lectures are incredibly boring and useless. When I went to him because I was struggling, he told me it's one class and it doesn't matter if I fail. His TAs don't know their subject material, and are rude. Do not take this.
Best teacher I've had a Binghamton so far. He cares about his students and is very fair and helpful especially if you go to his office hours. Definitely attend class and take notes and do the readings because there are occasional pop quizzes.
Excellent teacher who makes sure everyone understands the material and prepares you well for exams. He also connects personally with much of the class even in a large lecture hall.
Funny, knowledgeable lecturer. Interesting lectures, sometimes interrupted by silly questions. Have pop-up quizzes but very easy. Don't need to attend final if midterm result is B+ or above.
This guy is a really good person. I guess it depends on the course you take with him. I personally had him for the Art of War section of Univ. He was always funny, friendly, and caring. If you take this course with him, show up, participate, and do what little work that gets assigned to you.
Super knowledgable guy. This class was very engaging but he does grade papers a bit harshly.
He's a great professor. It's a shame he doesn't teach many classes. One of the best people I've ever learned from. His grading criteria can be unclear but he's super helpful if you go to his office hours. It was a real privilege to take even just one class with him.
If you a minority do not take is class (especially if your black) he comes off has a help and caring professor its just a lure so you can take the class. However, hes uncaring, insensitive and does not care either way if you fail or pass. DO Not RECOMMEND!!!
