Absolutley Awful. Handwriting is Illegible, cannot explain topics well at all, tests are out of left field, constantly goes off on tangets, all examples are from insurance company. DO NOT TAKE.
I personally like the guy. He's always letting students go to the front to prove theorems for the class so that they make their mistakes there and not on the exam. If you want to do great then you must absolutely be on top of your game for each and every lecture, and his helpfulness in his office hours will vary for each student.
Used to love Calculus, but this course made me hate the subject and feel as if I unlearned the material. Only a few tests and he doesn't input grades as they come so you have no idea what you have. Reviews are 10x easier than the tests and don't prepare you at all. His notes are unorganized and hard to follow.
He makes me feel anxious because he'll do problems on the board and then blank out, so then he tells us to do it as a challenge and we never talk about it. The way he tests grade is weird, when we go over the practice he says its ok to just put the answer, however when we look at the real test points are taken off for not proving or simplifying.
Dr. Clark is very nice as a person. He would appreciate questions and would love to see students to show up on his office hours. However, you MUST know how to teach yourself, because his lectures are very confusing. Tests are harder comparing to other professor, but I found textbook practice problems very helpful to prepare for the tests.
Lectures, homework, and tests are based on three completely different groups of information. Kind of whiny and off-topic a lot. If I hadn't taken this class already in high school, I would have failed. Promised curves on midterms when the class avg was poor, then at the end of the semester, claimed that curves were unnecessary and never promised.
If you're looking to slack and not go to class, take this professor. If it improves your grade, the final can be counted as 100% of your grade. This amazing policy allowed me to skip 80% of classes and just study on my own and ace the class from one test. And A starts at 90 (not an easy final though)
He's a very nice guy who knows a lot of calculus, but he's not great at explaining it to others. He loves proofs and definitions and barely goes over any examples, but if he does, they're very simple. He skips a lot of steps but expects us to do problems step by step. He has 2 grading schemes and in one of them the final is worth 100%.
Clark is a professor like no other. His amazing lectures, spot on grading skills, and handy office hours were a gift from the gods. Hands down the best professor I've ever had.
I've learned so much about insurance, that I might just become an actuary myself. In all seriousness, if you pay attention, go to lecture, do the homework, and go to office hours when you don't understand something, you should be fine. I think his dry sense of humor is hilarious. He posts all of his notes online. Goes over past exams for review.
Dr. Clark is the best, but he's not for everyone. He has a dry sense of humor that I personally loved and is incredibly knowledgeable (including but not limited to math). He has a more-than-fair grading scheme and was always very willing to help when I struggled. Although the textbook and class attendance are not necessary, I highly recommend both.
Lectures were informative but extremely boring, hard to sit through. Clark is a good professor in terms of knowing his stuff and being a fair accommodating grader, but his lecture style is boring and monotonous. No attendance but skipping classes does leave you behind. Pretty generous curve and grading scheme but the tests are difficult,
absolutely terrible. If you haven't taken calculus before then you will fail, or will need a tutor. whenever he teaches he assumes you already know many of the topics so he will skip over many of the fundamental calculus laws and rules that you need to know. lectures are very boring and will leave you more confused than actually learning. DONT TAKE
Clark is one of those professors that is so unbelievably smart that it makes him struggle at teaching. He skips steps in his head and does math tricks that the typical student cannot follow. I am a strong math student and took calculus in high school, and still struggled to see what he did sometimes. Not a good teacher, but generous grading on test
He has been spoiled by students who have already taken calculus and in result he does not know how to teach. He's a nice guy, he means well, he just does not know how to relay information to students. People who have taken calculus in high school can do well in his class, but everybody else will struggle hard.
I'm conflicted about how I feel about Professor Clark. On one hand, he is clever, humorous. On the other, he's difficult to follow and a bit monotonous. Only take if you have a solid background in calculus from high school and are willing to study hard for the final exam (potentially worth 100% of grade)
He is a very smart and considerate man, but the class is really difficult because of a few things. The largest issue I have is when he begins a new concept, he almost never uses a simpler example. He generally starts with difficult ones and answers questions in a way it is hard to understand. I don't think he's a bad teacher, but he doesn't suit me
Will literally tell you to "pull a function out of thin air," say that you will get the hang of it, and never actually teach you how to do it. If you don't write, verbatim, what he said in the notes on a test, he will take off most points for the question (even if you got it right). Also awful at explaining things if you ask questions in class.
Clark is a terrible teacher. He doesnt explain anything and gets randomly sidetracked all the time without explaining where hes going with it. He expects you to know things he hasnt taught and remember every random function he mentions. Hes very monotonous in lectures. He is terrible at answering questions. I would not recommend taking him.
I would avoid taking 408D with Clark unless you HAVE to. It takes an intense amount of concentration to actually learn any information during lecture. He teaches by doing practice problems, while barely/quickly explaining them in a monotone voice. Plus, his tests/homework are also difficult and he doesn't care if the class has a failing average.
I hate writing this because Dr. Clark is really a considerate person, giving HW extensions, make up dates, and so on, but his lectures are difficult to follow and the homework (Quest) is tedious. However, the worst part has to be the midterms. They are way harder than any of the review midterms, and you lose ALL your points if you are slightly off.
If you have the time and can teach yourself an entire course, take Clark for 408D. His lectures are tedious, but if you're able to somewhat keep up with textbook problems, you'll do good enough to at least pass. If you can get the all the practice test and textbook questions right, you're set for an A. The homework is useless, though...
By far the worst professor I've had at UT. Extremely poor lecturer, exams that are consistently more difficult than the review sets (with averages of 60), quest homework. Wrecked my GPA. Thanks.
A math professor that cannot teach to save a life. Lectures and homework are beyond useless. Point is, do not take him.
Dr Clark was not that bad for me personally, but I can understand why many are frustrated by him. He would regularly go off on tangents during class, wasting time and moved pretty fast when doing examples. His explanations for most things were not too clear, but he did end up curving our final grades.
Dr. Clark is a bit of a letdown. He is highly intelligent, but fails in relaying his knowledge to students. He does have several office hours a week and he welcomes questions, but his answers are not always the most helpful. He posts practices exam before each test, so make sure you understand them. Exams are free response with partial credit
Learned more once I started skipping and learning on my own through Paul's Online Notes. Tests are difficult (class averages were around 50-60). One time he went on a tangent about how he throws rocks at pigs in his driveway (came from predator-prey scenarios). Don't take unless you want your GPA to get wrecked. He curved final bc everyone failed
He is awful. Lectures suck, he doesn't care about anything other than going home. Spends half of lecture ranting about something else. Does not clearly explain anything. Handwriting sucks. Does not care if the students fail, will not budge on anything. Homework assignment every other day even if it is short. Skip this man if you want to learn.
He's a terrible teacher. He's a nice man but so smart he'll skip over many steps when solving problems and will do example problems in 15 seconds then talk about insurance for 35 minutes. Wouldn't recommend unless you have a solid background in calculus, and even then you may struggle.
Dr Clark is a terrible teacher. His lectures are dull and he speeds through examples with little explanations. I learned the most by going to TA office hours. He gives so much homework I could barely keep up with the homeworks in my other classes. We got about 3 homeworks a week for a total of 36 homeworks throughout the entire semester.
one quest hw per lecture, three midterms and a final. midterms were curved a lot (72 went to 93) and we were given the chance for test corrections on 2/3 midterms. also if you screw up a midterm, he has the option for your final exam to be your whole grade (get an A on the final A in the class). Letter grade cutoffs are also very lenient
Probably the most boring lecturer I've ever had. Textbook is useless. He also gives a ton of homework. The TA wasn't very good either. His grading system is fairly nice and the tests were only slightly difficult, but this was probably the most bored and uninterested I've been in a class at UT. Wouldn't recommend taking him.
Dr. Clark is a very boring, uninterested, dry lecturer who lacks teaching skills. Did not go to many lectures after first midterm. Class itself is not too difficult, you have to do a quest homework (harsh penalties) for each lecture and weekly quiz. Don't be fooled by the grade distribution, because Dr. Clark ruins the beauty of college math.
Lectures are brutal. The man can't stay on topic and is very unorganized. Homework 3 times a week but is very empathetic and will always accept late homework. You kinda have to learn on your own but if you do well on the final he will replace your average with that grade. It's very doable.
I took this class in high school and did perfectly fine and understood the concepts. Professor clarks class was completely different. While I did understand the topics and how to do the assignments he would always put the hardest and weirdest problems on tests. Quest assignments were brutal if you missed even one question. Avoid Clark if possible!
Hilarious guy, goes off on tangents about his days working in insurance a little too much however. He assigns a lot of homework, but will open them up for you past due date with no penalty. He also replaces your semester grade with your final grade if it is higher, which is how I ended the class with a 98 despite failing the first test.
Hes a little dry, but if you go in ready for it he can be entertaining. Most of whats taught in class can be learned from the textbook, but the curve was tied into the class attendance during random lectures. Quizzes were given during discussion sections once a week, and they picked a random day to give it. Manageable if you put the work in
Professor lectures in a way where it is difficult to understand, rarely stays on topic and talks about his unrelated experience in the business sector. Is rarely helpful in office hours and will not curve the 2 points you need to pass the class. Class is a waste of time, CC classes are more involved. Waste of time skip this man.
I see a lot of negative reviews and I just thought itd be fair to add some input... Professor Clark is indeed a bad lecturer and tends to go off on tangents about accounting which I personally enjoy to a degree. The learning modules he provides does the job if youve taken AB calc and is an easy A if not other prof available. :) take him, happy :)
Professor Clark is very proficient in calculus, but fails to convey this knowledge to his students. His lectures were often confusing, but his dry sense of humor made it a bit more bearable. Attendance is luckily not mandatory and I would recommend doing the quest learning modules if you find lectures hard to understand.
Lecture quality was horrible and I mostly cant tell what he is writing. He is a very nice guy and is pretty lenient on grading tests but the hw was something else. There would only be several questions and if you get it wrong then you will most likely get a low grade on hws.
Super slow talker - drove me crazy! If you watch lectures, review the notes he posts, and do the HW and practice exams, you'll do great. Parveen is the best TA. He def was not inspiring, but he did try to answer any questions. His explanations arent always great. DO NOT miss out on HW - it can make or break the grade.
With the online learning, his lectures were difficult to read due to the lack of video quality, but he does upload his notes ahead of time to adjust to this. Often, he goes on tangents during lectures but his lectures are fine. He is a very understanding professor & will go out of his way to try and improve from student feedback. Gives fair exams.
He is not a good teacher. He is such a slow talker and has the most monotone voice. The majority of the class is writing a bunch of proofs. There's homework due every other day and there are 3 exams. An A in this class is a 90%-100% so that's one upside. And he gave us test corrections so that was pretty nice too. Just be ready to teach yourself.
Some of the other criticisms of Professor Clark are valid. He has a monotone voice and speaks quite slowly. However, the lectures mainly discuss derivations of the formulas in vector calc, meaning they actually explain WHY the formulas work which gives a much deeper understanding of the topic. That being said, if you already hate math, avoid him.
One of the worst profs in the entire math department at UT, and that's saying something. If you get put into his class (math department doesn't tell you who you register for), drop. Seriously, drop and pray you get into another class. He is a terrible lecturer, and the TA is the only saving grace (thanks Chandel). He doesn't use +/- thankfully
took calc AB in high school and it was just a refresher course for me. His teaching style is hard to follow he kind of jumps from topic to topic or expects you to know things. Doesn't have really good explanations. I pretty much retaught myself the entire course. He is kind of wholesome though & will reopen quests. Relatively fair tests w curves
I cant even get started. This class is online and after knowing and studying every concept front and back, the open book final exam was still impossible. I saw the reviews were not so good but I still had to hope. Never again. I passed my AP Calculus exam and knew every concept but the way he teaches is so poor. SKIP HIM
Dr. Clarks lectures are useless unless you want to listen to him crack jokes and ramble about life experiences. In the words of Clark himself (three days before the final by the way) I wouldnt recommend 408C for people who havent taken calculus before OChem was easier for me than this course.
I stopped attending lecture after the first week bc he teaches so poorly and is so disorganized. The TA was a life saver! I don't recommend him if you didn't take calc in HS
I am conflicted, because Prof. Clark, is a really nice and knowledgeable man. He is smart, but a poor teacher. If you dont have any experience of calc, be prepared to teach yourself. Exams/HW are nothing like the examples in class. He did give a nice curve though at the end, but thats also because so many people failed.
You wont really learn much in the lectures, he goes very fast and doesnt explain much. Luckily the TA was great and I took calc ab before. Wouldnt recommend if you want to actually learn in depth.
Professor Clark is a nice guy, but I really struggled learning in his class. The exams were nothing like the hw but more like his examples during lecture, which were hard to understand. If i could go back i'd look ahead at the syllabus and try to learn the content independently before class. Study the midterms he posts right before exams!
so many people failed the final, luckily he gave us extra credit the day grades were due. his lectures are worthless, you're better off learning by yourself, a TA, or Sanger. Tests and practice homework were never alike, but he gives a lot of time for you to complete them.
He's a nice person and clearly knowledgeable, but I wouldn't recommend his class if you're not familiar with/passionate about calc. He's understanding though, and gave us a decent curve after the final as well as a retake for an exam everyone failed.
I wanted to give him a higher rating but his course is so unforgiving. Your grade is dependent on 3 tests really, or 1 if you ace the final. 30% for the 2 midterms, 40% for the final. I had a pretty thorough knowledge of the material, attended almost all lectures and did his review. I recommend finding an easier professor.
Your grades are up to the homework 20%, for quizzes 10%, for midterm exams 30%, and final exam 40%. Or if you get high grades on the final exam, you can choose the final exam grades as your final grades. I would say this class is challenging. The average grades of midterm are about 80+. There may be bonus points in this class.
A good grade is more than doable in M427L with Clark, but unless you're super passionate about the subject area, I'd recommend trying your luck with someone else. I found his lectures to be extremely disorganized and very hard to follow. With that being said, he's fairly forgiving on homework, and there were lots of practice resources.
AVOID THIS professor, at all costs. His lectures are not helpful and very difficult to follow. Exams are hard, and the questions are all free responses. Probably the worst math professor here at UT. The only thing that saved my grade was the textbook.
Not a good lecturer whatsoever. You WILL have to read the textbook or else you're likely screwed because (once again) you learn nothing in his lectures. HW after every lecture. I would avoid him at all costs for Probability I and take someone else.
Negatives: He's a very dry and poor lecturer with some dry humor. There is homework on Quest for every lecture. The grading scale is exam heavy. Positives: He's a forgiving grader, gives unlimited extensions for HW, and there is potential for EC. One thing I will say to any future student is to do the HW on time and attend lectures in person.
Limited separation between topics in class. Professor tends to ramble when students are supposed to be doing examples (including sometimes in exams). Very dry and prone to tangents. Has good patience for going over questions and old topics. Topics did not feel overwhelming and were usually well explored by the end of the chapter.
Do not take him. Run. He is not good at teaching.
Not an amazing lecturer, but not terrible. Knows his stuff and is a really nice guy. Easy class with very leniant grading.
Professor Clark takes a little getting used to. His teaching style is quite distinct, but he's a very knowledgable and entertaining professor. He knows the material through and through, his tests are fair, and he posts loads of review materials far in advance. I enjoyed this course and it gave me a strong calculus baseline.
Lectures are mind numbingly boring. It doesn't appear that he cares about the subject matter at all. He does tend to have really funny dark and dry jokes. Homework is easy, but you are required to pay money to access it, which is ridiculous. Tests are straightforward but require memorization. He is of the opinion that memorization is a good thing.
He is very knowledgeable, but he does not do well teaching the material. His lectures are hard to follow, but he does answer questions.
I took this class in high school, but I have no idea how someone could pass this class if they didn't take it in high school. His lectures are very boring, and doesnt explain the material. He just writes the material on the board. The only reason I passed this class because of the TA in the discussion sections. She actually helped us understand.
DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I got a 5 on Calc AB junior year; thought it'd be an easy review class even though his reviews sucked. I was so wrong. Do yourself a favor and drop. If you can't, watch lectures by zoom and do all the practice midterms he posts before the exam - they're the exact same format so if you can do those problems you'll get by.
He's awful. I honestly don't know how anyone could have anything positive to say about him. I taught myself the course through chegg and youtube videos. I did fine, but it would've been much less time consuming to have a good professor. It is 100% worth the trouble of switching teachers, especially if you're taking other hard prereqs like I did.
Do not expect to learn anything from lectures. Dr. Clark is smart but is not the best at teaching in a way someone with no calculus experience can get. Expect 2-3 Quest homeworks a week, 3 midterms and a final. The exams are easy because he posts past exams. He shouldn't be your 1st choice but it's not the end of the world if you end up with him
I came into this class with a strong base in calculus 1 and 2. The only reason I survived this class was because of my prior experience, and even then it was painful. You would think this class would be an easy revision, perhaps an opportunity to practice and gain experience. However, I LOST experience, I unlearned. TAs will carry.
A fun guy and talks a lot about his existential crisis of working at UT and wanting to become a professional rock thrower, but his lectures are boring and painful. I took calc in high school, but he has helped me forget everything I've learned and made sure I am not ready for the next math courses I will take. A lot of self-studying is necessary.
Professor Clark is not that bad. Use Paul's Online Notes and the textbook practice problems. Very intelligent guy, but self studying is required. I liked his dry humor, you could do his entire class asynchronously except for exams, and exam questions aren't that bad. Comfortable B+ to A-, A is slightly hard. - non-stem major
Hes a smart guy, but hes very big on proof. 90% of the lectures are him proving his work. His homeworks are not made by him, even he struggles with doing the homework questions. definitly would not recommend him at all
AVOID. Only did well because of prior Calc classes. Worst professor I've ever had. Lectures were completely useless but attendance was still mandatory. Everything I learned was through YT or our TA. Never gave the slightest hint of what would be on exams. All my friends in other calc classes were doing much better. Look for a different professor.
David Clark is very knowledgeable and intuitive about the topics he teaches. However, I would never take his class again. The lectures are useless, and the homework is nothing like the tests. The one saving grace is the practice tests, which you can use to teach yourself the course material, as well as how the tests work. FIND SOMEONE ELSE
If you have never taken a calculus course, do NOT take David Clark. His lectures are incomprehensible and useless. Do the practice tests he releases, they are almost identical to the test. He cares about his students, so if you are stuck between him and another bad professor, take him because he also offers test corrections!
Not only is David Clark's class not helpful, I actually leave feeling like I know less than when I walked into class. All he does is confuse everyone. The homework is said to be on a "guess and check system" however it WILL put you into the negatives if you get one question wrong. Like my grade has gone up by NOT doing the homework. Transfer out.
Dr. Clark is not as bad as everyone makes him seem. I do agree, you need to have some prior calc knowledge to do decent in his class. He's a funny and smart guy. He gives test corrections, and a project at the end that raises you to 2 full % points, which makes an 88 an A in his class. anyone who complained alot just didnt want to put effort in tbh
prof clark gets a little getting used to, but over time i started to love him. his tests were difficult but not impossible & he posts several practice exams, and gives you many opportunities to raise your grade. his lectures are a little boring and it does take a lot of studying, but people are definitely making him seem worse than he is. he goofy.
prof clark is such a smart and funny guy. tbh at first i was hesitant, but over time i loved him. tests are not too bad as he posts many practice exams similar to the actual test, and provides extra credit and test corrections. he goes on random laughable tangents during lectures, but overall its not impossible to do well if u put in the effort.
I wouldn't wish this professor on anyone. His job is to teach and he fails at it so bad that he confused students with prior Calculus experience. Look for someone else.
by far my worst professor this semester. i had to learn everything myself. take somebody else if you can
Professor Clark does take time to get used to, but he is VERY generous when grading exams, which are all free response. Towards the end of the year he even allowed us to add an extra 2% to our overall final grade. Study in advance over your notes/the practice tests he posts online and you'll be fine.
I feel like the material was difficult enough, but having Dr. Clark as a professor made it so much worse. He's dry and boring, and convolutedly explains everything. Tough grader, the only reason I passed was bc of our TA. I should've Q dropped this class
Clark is probably, if not the worst professor/teacher I've ever had in my schooling career. He's very intelligent, but lectures are basically useless. You will most likely have to teach yourself 90% of the course material. 3 quest assignments a week, two midterms, and a final (tests are 77% of your grade). Do not take for the sake of your sanity.
Like many people have said, the lectures have a lot to be desired. However, he is pretty generous and understanding when grading tests, so as long as you do the work and try, you should get an A. The test questions are pretty difficult, especially when many questions are based on topics merely glossed over, but besides that, it is a fair class.
Dr Clark's lectures are not the best time ever spent, however the amount of assignments and office hours means that you can learn the material fairly easily. He also grades generously and gives points back sometimes, but there are better options out there for M408D.
If this is your first time taking calculus, I would switch professors. While it's not too difficult to do well in here, you won't actually learn that much if that makes sense. I'd say my best piece of advice is to do all of the practice tests and go to the discussion section if you want to do well on the homework.
Dr. Clark may be pretty monotonous during lecture but also tries to tell entertaining stories. As long as you actually do the homework and study for the tests, you should be able to get an A. Dr. Clark truly wanted his students to learn from their mistakes and allowed points back on tests by doing corrections and was pretty generous with grading.
his lectures were meh but he was kinda funny at times. i did fine in calc bc, so a lot of his material was just review. attendance is mandatory, but he lets us to go to class on zoom, which is nice. the midterms were basically the same format/content as the practice exams. if you practice those, you'll do great. same with the final.
Clark has a very monotone voice and dry humor which I personally find funny. Sometimes he'll go off on a tangent with math concepts. The tests are short but hard, with questions that always seem to be something you didn't study enough for. The tests always have a bonus question at the end that are always hard and can take 20 minutes just to answer.
Clark is the type of professor that makes tests hard for the sake of preparing you for the next class. Nonetheless, he helps anyone who seeks help. He emailed me after I didn't turn in a homework to make sure everything was ok and gave me an extension. Yes the tests are hard, but that's just calculus; he gives you everything you need to get an A+
The exams were fine as long as you knew how to solve each practice question on the practice exams. The homework was very hard, and dropped my grade but an A is manageable because of the exams. Just make sure you know the practice exams by heart, and go to discussion sections for help on the homework.
Attendance is checked via instapoll, but will give credit if you just email him. His midterms are simple, same as practice exams. He gives midterm corrections, also the final replaces any lower midterm grades. his homework is difficult but doable. his lectures are both zoom/in person. Overall, you can pass. Bad reviews don't do him justice.
Dr. Clark has a very logical class that just asks you to show up, providing many past exams to study from he is very clear in what he wants you to know. A joy to attend his lecture, and a great professor.
This class is very difficult, and lectures can be hard to understand. Quest homework is very hard, and you only get one try per question before it starts deducting points (if you get it wrong multiple times, points can go into the negatives). He provides practice tests that are very similar to the actual tests and is very generous with curving.
Worst prof I've ever had. Lectures are mind-numbing and useless, I learned everything from khan academy. Homework is often due before material is covered, and wrong answers result in negative points. Exams are difficult. Clark gave extra credit and a generous grading scheme, but that does not make up for how genuinely terrible he is at teaching.
Professor Clark is a pretty entertaining professor IMO. He likes to focus on proofs at some points which gets confusing, but his notes are decent. You can get an A in his class if you go to office hours, discussion, and the calc lab if needed. Homework is tough, tests are tough, but he will help you with good grading methods.
Professor Clark was really nice however his class is very hard and if you like me have never taken calculus apart from precal u will struggle however it is not impossible to pass he gives lots of curves and extra credit and tests very similar to the practice ones just make sure to know the answers to every single one bc its always a random pulled
Moderately difficult class. Clark has to be the MVP when it comes to giving monotone lectures. That said, he did give us corrections on the first two midterms; but then on the final, he gives neither corrections nor a curve. Homework was assigned 3-4 times a week resulting in 36 problem sets. Moral of the story: get Blazek if you can.
I also took his 408D class, but similar opinions for both classes. David Clark is a dry lecturer. Though I find his dryness funny, he cannot communicate the material in the slightest. Take office hours, that might help a bit. Lastly: HAMMER THE FINAL EXAM. The midterms will be curved, but the final will most likely not. RIP 4.0, never forget.
Worst class I've ever taken. The lectures are extremely monotone and boring to the point where its impossible to focus. 36 homework assignments, 15 discussion quizzes, over 30 learning modules. Don't take this class, get a different professor.
His class is somewhat difficult, especially for freshman. I took 408C and 408D as a junior and found them to be a bit of work but very manageable. His philosophy is that homework -> test -> final (in terms of difficulty). Learn to manage your time, prepare for lectures, and how to properly ask questions, and you will get an A.
Clark isn't the best lecturer, but the required Quest modules helped me learn. I had to do a lot of self-studying, so I wouldn't recommend him if you lack previous calculus experience. He allows late homework submissions, but you can earn negative points for incorrect answers. He is open to questions, though his explanations can be confusing
He made us memorize all formulas for practically every distribution (literally dozens of formulas, totally pointless, and made everything 100x more difficult). The final took my grade from an A- to a C+. All of my studying was spent on memorizing formulas. Avoid this passive-aggressive incompetent professor for the sake of your sanity.
Worst lecturer Ive ever had, he makes going to class feel like a waste of time and doesnt explain concepts big picture. The textbook for this class is really helpful and he is a generous grader, but dont expect to learn from lectures. This is a hard class but if you put in the work you can do well enough on the midterms and final (90% of grade).
The exams aren't too difficult. He gives practice exams that say what the exam will be. He uploads his notes after class. Your grade is based on the exams and weekly quizzes. He is not the best lecturer but he is funny and gives opportunities for extra credit. If you want to make a good grade then you will have to put in work outside of class.
I did not attend lectures a single time after the first test, I wanted to fall asleep every class. I got extremely lucky with my grade, in general do the online homeworks and you'll have some idea what's going on, but it's all memorization of formulas and his explanations are very un-intuitive and sloppy.
At first, I really disliked Prof. Clark, but he grew on me. He's funny in a way he doesn't even know, and if you follow along with the recommended textbook everything becomes crystal clear and exams were so easy. He's definitely not one of the worse professors at UT, I would rate him at the top. BUY THE TEXTBOOK!! it makes things much easier.
Honestly, Clark is a beast. He's super funny in a dry way and tells funny stories about work experience or crazy neighbors. I recommend looking over the material before going to lecture (which is a good strategy for every class) so you can ask relevant questions. He has work experience outside of academia which is interesting to listen to.
Dr. Clark is a very caring professor, but his lectures left me more confused than when I walked in. Exams were very few questions and worth the vast majority of the grade. If you know nothing about differential equations, you're going to have to teach yourself.
Absolutely horrendous. The worst professor I have ever had hands down. This is literally my first time ever posting a review for a professor because I am usually pretty understanding. The dude is extremely incompetent and is literally blindly copying from a paper onto the board with no shame. Terrible handwriting as well and cranky for no reason.
Professor Clark's lectures can be dry, but he's surprisingly generous with grading. Doing the homework, going to office hours, and using tools like Unstuckstudy help a lot. With effort, you can get an A in this class.
I didn't realize that the class was textbook based, and that caused a lot of problems for me in the beginning. Save yourself time by buying the textbook and studying off of that!
Worst professor I have ever had.
Impossible to learn from the lectures. Impossible. Rambles at length, scribbles random stuff on paper, doesn't explain anything. Unless you already know everything in this class, don't take this professor. Having to learn this alone is terrible.
Class isn't too bad, i ended up pretty much teaching myself everything because this guy is a stunningly bad lecturer. Boring, messy handwriting, doesn't explain stuff well and goes into detail on things that aren't relevant. Nice guy though.
