This man is incredibly boring, he uses words straight from webster's dictionary, so please read it if you plan to take his class. He is a very educated man and either taught or attended at Harvard, he thinks USC students are Harvard students.
He is probably the worst teacher in USC. His lectures are very boring and after you finish his class, having read the whole book and his powerpoint presentations (which he reads to put you to sleep)you feel you haven't learned anything.
I really enjoyed this class. He never makes anyone feel like they have given an incorrect answer. If you go by his office or make an appt, he will gladly help you. This has been one of my favorite classes so far at USC. Just know your notes for tests.
He really knows his stuff. I thought his course was very tough but I came out of it,learning a lot of valuable information. Once you learn how to study for his test it is not that bad.
He's tough, but fair. His high standards intimidate a lot of students, but if you're serious about getting a quality education and not just an easy A, you'll definitely be a fan of his.
This professor is a very good teacher who knows his materiel. but his tests are hard as hell. I studied really hard and hardly made a B... if you are looking for an easy A, this is not a class for you
Interesting lectures but HARD class overall. Tests are more difficult than they need to be. He takes attendance often and that's included in your final grade so make sure to go to class. Also has quizzes every now and then. Best thing: He curves your final grade up to a full letter grade almost!
Awesome guy and very intelligent. Tough class overall. Crockett has impressive credentials and he backs them up with his excellent teaching. Prepare to work though, this may be the toughest MKTG class you'll ever take. If you want easy, take somebody else.
He was an interesting teacher. He knew his stuff. The book wasn't helpful. Study the notes and GO TO CLASS. Everyday you miss, he takes off points on your final average. Exams are really hard, they don't reflect the material. He explains material so you get it but words it different on the exams.
Excellent professor, interesting class. Exams are hard maybe more than they should be. Come to class, youll be copying a lot of stuff from slides. Book not necessary for class, just for exams. Not easy but fair and entertaining.
he is an extremely nice guy and a great professor. however, he tests are extremely hard and he admits to making them trick questions. if youre good with business stuff, take him..if you want a good grade take someone else. i studied a lto and knew all the material but still did awful on all the tests
Good professor. Don't buy the book, almost everything you need to know comes from his notes. tests are detailed, so basically memorize your notes and u should do fine. smart, knows his material. always willing to help, good class overall.
Makes exams WAY harder then they need to be. Does not grade final reports objectively. No need to buy the $150 book, because he does not use it even once. I would strongly recommend not taking this professor if at all possible.
The worst MKTG 352 professor ever!!!! Exams are WAY TO DIFFICULT FOR AN INTRO. COURSE!!! Book is useless, so don't buy it. Doesn't grade fairly on project.....and the list goes on.....
Professor Crockett is a nice guy and good professor. He loves class participation, so speak up with some questions and input and he'll like you. His tests are intentionally twisted (asking the same question twice with different wording etc) but just don't overthink it and you'll be fine. All you need to know comes from his slides. An "A" professor.
Nice guy. Thinks his class is the most important in the world, which is annoying, but it's an easy course. Don't need the book. Participate in class, re-read the slides before exams and you'll be fine. 2 projects but they're not too bad.
Good professor! Tests can be hard and tough grader on assignments but he curves the class grade at the end. Go to his office hours!
tests are way harder than needed, 4 assignments that are pointless and does not always cover material, would not recommend
Would not recommend this class, it is a lot tougher than all other sections. I had to work really hard for a B while my roommates taking other sections coasted. He is a really great teacher though, you will learn a lot, but beware, it is a tough course and he is a tough grader.
He takes the class way too seriously. Tests are tricky even though the material isn't. Other professors are way easier. His quizzes are random and don't allow you to go backwards, making it more difficult and confusing for no reason. Manageable to get a good grade but you have to work way harder than you should.
Prof Crockett is an amazing teacher. He really knows the material and makes lectures very interesting. However, I don't get the sense he cares about his students at all. The few times I've tried to reach out to him with questions he has taken several days to respond to emails. He is also difficult to talk to in person outside of class.
Professor Crockett is a former Harvard professor, and knows the information very thoroughly. However, he does not care AT ALL whether you learn the material or not. He is extremely unhelpful during office hours and does not offer extra credit. There are iClicker's for attendance, so class is fairly mandatory. You have weekly Connect assignments.
Crockett is a great guy and he loves what he does, but his tests are significantly harder than other 350 teachers. Getting an A on a test practically comes down to luck because he tries to separate the As and Bs with "Trick questions" that have two correct answers, and requires you to pick the "more correct" one. Hardest I've ever worked for a B+
He can be funny at times and make the class interactive. However, he makes the Intro Marketing 350 class like an advanced one. I have never had to work so hard just to get a B in an intro class. Furthermore, his grade cutoffs are ridiculous (ie. 88% is the lowest for a B+). I would avoid taking him for an intro class, especially marketing majors.
Dr. Crockett tries his best. The class is an intro to marketing, but if I were a marketing major I would be seriously reconsidering my major after his attempt at it. He knows the material well and tries to teach it but fails. His tests are extremely hard and his "curve" actually made a plus grade harder to get. Overall would not recommend.
Witty and entertaining, posts powerpoints to BBoard after he is finished with the lecture. Exams are hard because he tries to trick you with the wording of the questions, and then has two possible answers that could be correct. Great speaker and his voice is easy to listen to, he tries to make the class interactive.
Dr. Crocket is easily the worst professor I have had at USC. Lectures are very dry and boring and tests are difficult and tricky. Most of the questions have two right answers but one is "better" than the other and they are trying to trick you. Makes the class harder than it needs to be. I do not recommend.
Crockett was very engaging. All I can say is you have to listen in his class and take good notes. Textbook info is basically irrelevant and his explainations and the textbooks' were sometimes different(but the ones from class were on the exam). If you don't have listening skills or like to online shop during class, this is not the class for you.
Professor Crockett is a solid choice. He is very passionate about his teaching. All of the information on the tests comes straight from the lecture slides (give or take a few things in the book but he tells you what to look at). Attendance is taken via iclicker.
Can easily get 100s on quizzes (2 chances, same questions, on BB) and HW that is 25% of grade. Actually put in time studying (2-3 days before exam) and you can get A's on exam. Most people don't pay attention during class, I did 50% of time and got A's on exams by just studying his PPs and making quizlets. iClicker attendance basically everyday.
Dont take. Strays from the book a lot and goes way more in depth than what is needed. Tests are very tricky but tells you that he isn't tricking you. Reached out to him by email multiple times for guidance when studying for tests and received snobby responses about how he provided us with enough study material when he only gave us a 4 slide review.
MKTG 350 should not be difficult. The information is straightforward and easily applicable, but Prof Crockett does not make a good grade attainable. I spent hours upon hours studying for every exam and reading through the book and did not get an A. His exams are terrible - he even tells you he tries to trick you. What's the point?!
Says he places the + grade cutoffs based on the percentage of students because it benefits us but his cutoffs are higher than normal and are just simple rounding practices. Sends out daily emails and they usually contain snobby remarks. Hes probably just bitter he doesnt work at Harvard anymore
If you want to work really hard and not get an A, take him. Honestly one of the worst professors I've had. He completely turned me away from majoring in Marketing. Teaching style is awful and is very pretentious. Spams you with emails and thinks he's more important than what he actually is. Do not take him.
Professor Crockett was fine. If you must take him you'll be fine but if there is another option take the other professor. I went to his office hours and he was not the nicest. Don't miss any homework assignments and make sure to get all of the attendance points because there are not many points in this class. Good luck.
Professor Crockett was a great MKTG professor, he tried to make the material entertaining and gave lots of in class examples that were helpful on the exams. Exams are very lecture heavy, pay attention in class and take down everything he says & you will get an A in the class. Exams are a little tricky but if you study multiple days youll make an A
Honestly one of the hardest intro classes I have ever taken. Your grades are pretty much only tests, so if you don't study and don't put the time in to go to class and take notes.. you will probably fail. Very hard class, and its very lecture heavy. Attendance is done by iclicker, so once you answer one question you get credit for the day.
Crockett can be both nice and rude, and as an introductory class that is required by all business school students, he makes it wayyy to difficult. The exams are just ridiculously difficult. 5 choices, 2 are correct, 1 is the better of the two. He sends out emails/announcements in ALL CAPS TO MAKE HIMSELF SEEM IMPORTANT. no. Dont reccomend him!
The class isn't difficult as long as you pay attention. He makes the material interesting and uploads the class powerpoints to BB but you can't rely on that alone for an easy A. You have to work for it just like you would for any other class. You can get an easy B/B+ but if you want an A you have to actually know and understand the material.
Dr. Crockett is a nice, knowledgeable professor & I would recommend this class! However, there is not much overlap between required reading in the textbook & what he teaches in the lectures, so be prepared to learn a lot of material! Attendance is mandatory and grades are mostly based on tests. If you're willing to put in effort, you'll be fine!
His powerpoints are very helpful in preparing for the test. If you want an A make sure you memorize each and every part of the powerpoint! He suggests using the learning objectives and filling out the information under each to prepare for a test. Definitely do this! It helped me do well in the class and learn all the information!
Disorganized!!!!! Don't take his courses.
This man is really annoying. I have learned all the same information in my other classes and have received an A in those classes, however, he makes the information way harder than it should be. Tests are HARD and they are worth a majority of the grade. The information is easy but he makes it impossible to get a good grade unless you memorize slides
Literally avoid at all costs. He gives good lectures but is a ridiculous grader. His tests set you up to fail. Attendance is mandatory.
This class isn't super hard but Dr. Crockett makes it harder than it needs to be. It's really easy to get a B but kind of hard to get an A. Exam questions have two right answers, but he wants the one that's considered more correct. He is not very personable outside of class. If you have the chance to take the class with someone else you should.
His class is definitely not easy, but Prof. Crockett is extremely knowledgable and makes the class interesting. His test questions might be more theoretical but if you understand the basic concepts, its really not bad. Really enjoyed his class!
He is pretty much the only option for MKTG 350 business section. He sets weird deadline times like Monday at 9 AM. His exams are towards the more difficult side because he likes to trick you with the answer choices. He is interesting though!
Stay far away if you can, but good luck considering the business school opens very few sections of this class that ALL business students have to take. If you end up with him, be ready to memorize powerpoint slides and deal with his pretentious attitude all semester.
This is one of the hardest classes I have taken in DMSB. The course is made unnecessarily hard by pointless info and confusing multiple right answer test questions. If you have a great memory take him. If not get, run... fast... honestly wait for Worsham or just an overflow class without him. Worth it not to get stuck with him.
I wish I had more room to write... baaaad teacher. Mr. Crockett truly takes pride in tricking his students and giving students bad grades, which he will tell of this in class. If you must take his class use the power points because he does not test by the book or by connect. Beware, he is a very prideful teacher who will make your class difficult.
Good professor. Most of material needed comes from lecture powerpoints that he posts on Blackboard. Tests feature confusing choices as every question has at least two answers that could be correct. If you talk to him in office hours & learn how he thinks, you'll be able to choose the right answers. If you don't talk to him, it'll be difficult.
If you're a business major, you're basically stuck with him. All the material he presents is on Blackboard, and you're most likely gonna end up teaching yourself the material. The material itself isn't hard, but the way he writes his questions confuses you; there are 5 options and at least 2 choices that could be right. Memorize the best you can.
Upset that he went from a year at harvard to teaching an intro class, so he justifies it by making it unnecessarily difficult. Would be a pretty good and interesting professor if he didnt let his ego dictate the class.
Really upset that this is the intro MKGT class because the major is great but he seems to scare off students and make marketing harder than it should be. Sends a thousand emails every day to students that are paragraphs long but will literally respond yes or no to induvidual emails. I overall thought he was below subpar
If you are a business major at USC this is most likely your only professor option for Marketing 350 unless you're in the honors college. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Just take the class over the summer. This is an intro class and is supposed to be easy, don't make yourself have to work harder for no reason. Only 6 ppl in my lecture got above a 90 on 1st exam..
Avoid at all costs. Take online if you are a business student. Smart teacher and good info but tests are extremely tough, even for the smart kids. Crockett often puts more than one correct answer for multiple-choice making it difficult for non-skilled test takers. Moore School students suffer because professors like this have tenure.
If you want to take exams at 7:30 at night this is your guy. Also puts two correct answers on his exams which dose not help you in any way learn the subject.
The worst class. His exams are insanely difficult for material that is really easy. He assigns textbook homework and readings, then explicitly says not to go off what the textbook says. The average on the first exam was a 63%. Avoid at all costs
Crockett knows what he's talking about, he's very experienced in Marketing. But - beware it's test heavy and his tests are a lot. He's one of those that gives you five choices. 2 are correct but one is "best" so you need to know it. He provides the slide decks which is where the q's come from. He makes you test at 7:30pm 3x/semester which is hell.
I have mixed feelings about this professor. The tests are impossible if you don't memorize all of the notes but all of the MKTG350 classes are hard. First test only 4 people got an A (I got a D) but on the second test I got an A. If you have to take him his class is doable but if at all possible take this course over the summer.
He is very knowledgable about the course materials and explains the material well in lectures. His first test was a bit tricky, but if you look through his powerpoints and study the notes he makes in the powerpoint the tests are relatively easy. As long as you pay attention in class and study the powerpoints you'll be able to get an A.
This class in no way should be difficult, but the amount of information that goes into one exam is ridiculous. Don't get freaked out after the first exam because most likely 75% of your class is going to fail. The 2nd and 3rd exams are a lot easier. He makes what should be an easy class ridiculously difficult.
Awful professor. His tests are purposely made to trick you and several questions did not come from slide decks (he says they all do, lie). I memorized the material for a week before every exam and did average on all of them. Would never take again.
DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN AT ALL COSTS, tries to trick you on exams as much as possible, and thinks he is the smartest guy ever. Average grades for first three exams were around a 70! And this is almost a 400 person class! Study material does not involve any examples, and the few he gives are nothing like the questions on exams! Ruined Marketing for me!
Tough class but Crockett is a solid option. The tests are not easy but if you study you can get solid Bs on them.
This class is a lot of studying and a lot of material, but Crockett is not a bad professor. Like everything on the exam he lectures on and he post all the powerpoint with lecture notes on BB. You really have to study for exams because there is a lot of material, but the material itself is not hard. It is just a lot of work for an intro course
His exams are way too hard for an intro class. He sucks. He ruined my semester. Intro to accounting and econ were easier than this
Worst professor I've come across at this university. Aims to make marketing the most difficult class to boost his ego. Doesn't care about his students. He promised our class a curve at the end of the semester and then didn't give it. Loves to see students struggle. You could memorize his powerpoints and still receive an average grade. STAY AWAY.
Literally the worst class Ive ever taken. You work so hard and study the exact way he tells you to and somehow It still barely gets you passing. AVOID. he ruined marketing for me and now I will have PTSD from his awful class. Him as a person is fine. He just needs to understand It is an INTRO class that should not be as difficult.
So Crockett really knows the material, which reflects in his lectures which are clear and easy to follow along with powerpoints, but thats not what is graded. His exams (4) are very specific. There will be 2 right choices, but you must select the BETTER answer. Homeworks are easy points, just do well on test and you'll prob still end up with C.
Crockett is by far the worst professor I've had in the business school. Didn't learn anything and the exams were pointlessly difficult. Not at all a good intro to marketing
Crockett clearly knows the material he teaches but hasn't found the best way to explain it, especially to non-marketing majors. A majority of the class failed the first and third exams. There's so much reading, so much material to remember and not much room for error. The class is also graded on a curve that you have no explanation of.
One of the most experienced teachers in the business school. Knows what he is talking about. However, this class is hard because how its organized. Basically everything that is on the exams comes from his powerpoints which he uploads to blackboard. The tests have two correct choices and you need to choose the best. Going to class is critical
This is such a terrible intro to marketing course. It's not designed for you to learn but to memorize. Know every word on every ppt to pass the exams. Homework is easy points, but the exams are the absolute worst. Avoid him if you have another option
idk why everyone thinks this class is hard? he is a great guy who makes lectures funny and engaging, exams are literally his notes, no need to study from textbook
Decent prof, but comes off as a little arrogant. The class material itself isn't too hard, but the tests are pretty difficult and not always worded well.
I don't know why Doctor Crockett has so much hate on this website. He is very funny and very good at explaining marketing, but you need to pay attention and take good notes. Exams are not difficult as long as you study. Study and stay on top of assignments and you will be fine!
One of my favorite professors I've taken so far. Crockett was an engaging lecturer and his exams were fair. No need to study the textbook, just pay careful attention to what he says in class and you'll do well
His lectures are actually interesting and its easy to pay attention. There is homework but it is super easy and help for the tests. Tests are easy if you study. He really cares about what he is teaching and does a lot to make sure students understand the material.
There is a TON of material you have to learn in this class. His exams were very specific but he didn't try to trick us or make them too complicated! If you know the material well, you can make an A in this class. He posts the powerpoints online after each lecture so you can look through them if you miss class or while studying.
This teacher is the reason I created an account on this website. Absolutely does not care about student success in his class. Following your first exam, you will have people waiting at office hours daily until the second exam. Treats class as if it were grad level. Know the info, do not memorize though
Dr. Crockett just reads off of powerpoint slides, and doesn't do anything else to help teach the material. If you want to do well in this class, you'll need to teach yourself with the textbook. His lectures are very dry and quite useless. Tests don't allow for backtracking
2 exams plus final, easy HW assignments that fizzle out, quizzes are fine. His tests/quizzes need more time, you cant go back to check over past questions, he was careless and dropped an entire quiz that everyone did well on and gave no option for a makeup. He curved a test and then everyone's grade lowered? idk how that makes sense, it was annoyin
I love Crockett! His reviews are lower than he deserves. I was nervous to take him because of the reviews, but I really have enjoyed his class. He is friendly and personable. I find his lectures interesting and engaging compared to other online lectures. No lockdown browser and hw is due at the end of the semester. I don't like the textbook he uses
Awful Professor for Intro to Marketing. His test and quiz questions are so misleading and confusing. There's terms on his exams that he pulls out of god knows where. Seems like a good guy personally, but his exams/quizzes are out of this world. Don't take this class unless you wanna hard time in "intro" to marketing. Take another section.
Open notes but doesn't help. Tests are barely about the lecture slides. Textbook is not very organized. HW not really helpful for tests.
Honestly seems like a great guy outside of class. However, his exams and quizzes are nothing like his lectures and terms cant be found in the textbook or lecture. Cant backtrack on exams and quizzes. Go to class, study lectures and textbook, and youll still be lucky to barely get a B. Grad level toughness for intro level class. Dont take
If you have issues with literally anything in the class, he is completely useless over email/slack and generally doesnt respond. When he does, he gives you excuses on why he cant explain or help. Class isnt even hard but the exams and quizzes are nothing like the material in lectures and textbook. Intro level material with grad level exams
This class ruined my 4.0 because he designed the quizzes and exams to trick you. You can study every piece of material he gives you and attend all the classes and still not make an A because of his exams. He seems like a decent guy, but he does not care about students grades and will not negotiate rounding your grade up if you are close. AVOID
He is a good guy & funny & tries to give examples/relate to students. However, his exams are way too hard. Make sure you get 100s on all the assignments (you can do them several times) and do all the extra credit because you will need it. I barely got a B even tho I went to every class & tests were open note. The class is also huge
This class makes a marketing major want to switch to something else. The exams are extremely difficult and he tries to trick the students on almost every single question. The exams are open-note, but the notes do not help at all. Lectures are long and boring. Homework is easy, but don't relate to exams. If you want a good grade, take someone else.
An intro level marketing class should not be nearly as difficult as Crockett makes it. No matter how much of the material you know you will still be tricked by all his questions on the exams. The wording and answer choices makes it so confusing and difficult. DO NOT take him.
This class is way too hard. The material is not hard but he makes the quizzes and exams tricky and the notes won't help you for the exam. Make sure you listen to his lectures and take note of any example he gives. Make sure to start the marketing research early in the semester so you get ahead of it. If you have an option for another prof go for it
Do not take professor Crockett. Incredibly smart guy, but the exams do not match up with the textbook and are worded in a way that resembles a graduate or upper-division class. For MKTG-350, an intro class, there are just too many intricacies that he covers that take away from what is supposed to be a broad class.
He is a fast responder to messages but sounds rude when he does respond and makes you feel stupid. He's the type of professor to make exam questions have multiple right answers and you "have to choose what you think is best". Quizzes were easy but exams ruined my grade since they were so hard. His lectures were useless so I just used his powerpoint
His online class was straight forward. He was overall a great professor. I think he knows hes gotten bad feedback in the past and has changed. I would take him.
These reviews on Prof. Crockett are way too harsh. Admittedly, yes some of the questions on his exams are unnecessarily confusing. But, in the end, this class is not difficult. All of the Homework is due at the end of the year and the quizzes are easy (and cheggable). As long as u take notes and study the slides you will pass with a B or higher.
Hes awesome I dont understand why these comments are so bad. Hes really funny and relatable and he cares a ton about his students. If you reach out to him, he will respond almost immediately. I havent read the book at all. Just watched his lectures and took notes and I have an A in the class. Everything is open book and open notes.
content is very easy but makes quizzes and exams unnecessarily difficult (as in all answers are correct but which is the most correct), must go to class or watch recorded lectures since he tests from his lectures not really the textbook
Supposed to be an easy class but is made extremely hard. Exams are impossible for no reason. Avoid at all costs. I am a good student and I struggled a lot in this class, even though I attended all lectures and did all assignments. nice guy but too hard for an intro class
Enjoys making the class difficult. You may watch every lecture, read every slide, and read every chapter in the book and will still end up having to guess on exams due to "choosing the most right answer. Makes MKTG difficult for absolutely no reason. Homeworks are easy but exams blindside you with questions.
Exams and quizzes were confusing and would have what seemed to be more than one right answer. The material is not difficult to understand but the examples on the exams are so different than they are in the lectures. You could do all the homeworks and get decent grades on the quizzes but the exams will bring you down a lot.
