Great teacher, tries really hard
nice guy... loves to make corny jokes.. hard only because the class is... not a bad math teacher
he is an awesome teacher.... he explains everything cleary and makes sure he doesnt leave anyone behind. his jokes are corny but can sometimes be funny. overall he is a great teacher
I like him! His tests are pretty easy...just do your homework!
Bad teacher and he looks like Bert on Seasame Street.
Very easy. Seems like he is over doing it to get better teaching evaluations. Don't take him. There are better profs. in the Math. dept.
this man couldn't teach a 1st grade math class. he cannot get his ideas across clearly, he is disorganized, his jokes are not funny, and you have to be willing to teach yourself. shooting myself in the foot would have been less painful
Dr. Cusick tells corny jokes, but they are funny. He also gives tickets for classroom participation, so you are interested in getting an A, then talk and do boardwork all the time!
I had a class called Quantitative Literature with him. Over half the class did horrible. He was not good at explaining his ideas and concepts. When you asked for help he would only confuse you further and make you feel dumb because you didn't understand
cusick was a horrible teacher. only a select few students, which met with him after class understood what was going on. he left everyone else behind to teach themself. don't take his class.
Dr. Cusick is a very nice man with an unusual sense of humor. He gives you points for attendance and class participation. I would not recommend him to anyone who has never had any trig experience. If you have taken trig before, then you will be fine.
He's a great prof. if you come to class. He doesnt collect homework but gives tickets for pts. in boardwork and asking question.
VERY INSENSITIVE To STUDENTS NEEDS. One word: NO.
This man SHOULD NOT BE a professor. He is very unclear in his teachings. Some of his tests had material on them that we hadn't even gone over in class. And heaven forbid you try and email him for anything. He won't answer. Stay away from this professor.
Not an easy teacher, hard to understand follow his examples, show up every day, and ask questions. Attendance points and Participation points really help your grade. Overall he is a good teacher
Great Trig. Prof. He is a fair grader who gives participation and attendance points. I thought he was easy to understand...shows more than one view of a problem. He has a quirky sense of humor, and wants to make his class fun.
Do your homework and you'll be fine. He covers everything that is on the test, sometimes it just looks different.
DO NOT TAKE!!!!!! HE IS HORRIBLE!!!!
Great Professor. Those who rated him poorly must not have done homework. If you do your homework you will Ace the course. Grow up, take responsibility and you will be fine.
I've had him for two classes, great teacher! He cares about his students. As long as you pay attention in class and do the homework you should be fine!
A great professor. Ease and clarity may be due to the fact that Calculus 3 isn't the easiest subject to teach. Participation is a must for success, so be prepared to go to class and stay awake. Takes attendence.
Professor Cusick is a good teacher. If you don't do well on tests you can still get a good grade in his class. Made C's on most of my tests just went to the board lots and ask questions and made a B in his class.
fair grading scale. gives several opportunities for grade boosting. Sometimes his sarcasm can be a little much. overall good teacher.
Very bad teacher,DO NOT TAKE HIME !
Horrible teacher, blows off your questions, and the tests are impossible if you haven't allready had a calculus class
his is horible and he does not know how to teach students insults students makes them look stupid. do not take his class at all he needs to go baclk to teaching school. bad teacher warning do not take him at all.
Do NOT take him, especially if it's a CI class. He doesnt know how to teach it; had to drop for fear I would fall behind in 201. Told students it was his class, he would teach it the way he wanted, our job was to shut up and listen. AVOID at all costs!
I dropped out of his class because either though i studied and did a great deal of the homework, I couldn't comprehend the subject matter and then there were the absolutely BRILLIANT students in the class with no problem. He assumes you know the material because it is such a low level math class.
Professor Cusick is great. I would recommend taking his class to anyone who truely wants to learn something. Unless you sleep through every class you will learn something
Awful at teaching this class. He's super intelligent, but couldn't communicate instuctions well. Wasn't helpful when someone asked a question. Made us feel stupid. I dropped because I changed my major and he took it as a personal attack on him. I don't think he was asked back to teach anyway...
He did a lot of examples and the tests were made up from homework questions with different numbers. His ticket system is very helpful. His sense of humor made the hour more bearable.
His sense of humor helped make you feel more comfortable. Tickets are very helpful! Talk as much as you can! Tests are easy if you do the homework. Attendance is required.
Easy, funny, love those tickets...they are the only thing that saved my a**, love the hair sticking straight up,rember fleas/go carts/rollercoasters/crud
Dr. Cusick is a great teacher. He tries to relate the material to real life situations. He tries to keep a comfortable atmosphere by joking a lot. Ask questions and do board work. The tickets will help your grade. You have to work in this class, but he's a great teacher.
I retook this class, since I had a "D" the first time I made an attempt at it my first semester at Marshall. I was able to improve upon it with a "C" from professor Cusick- one of only 3 classes in which I did not receive an "A". However, Cusick was light years better than my first professor in teaching this class. Highly recommend.
Not a very good teacher. Doubtlessly a master of his field, but not a master of teaching. I agree with the other comments that the tests are very difficult. Hopefully he'll change and realize that if the examples he teaches in class are not clear and concise, and if they don't match the material on the test, his students will not take much from his class but a bad grade and attitude.
If you like, math, and enjoy a fun teacher, take Cusik. It was my 2nd time taking calculus, and he was a really great teacher. Tests aren't too hard. All around good class and guy.
Where did that negative sign come from? Prepare to hear that question every class period so someone can rack up a ticket for the day.
Had a few years ago. Still the easiest math class I've ever had.
Well, if you get your tickets, you'll do pretty decent. If not, you'll just be annoyed by the crazy stories/sayings. "Meanwhile, back at the ranch..."
If you do the homework he assigns and ask questions if you are confused, you'll do just fine (and get nifty little tickets in return). His ticket system gives your grade a huge boost if you participate (i.e. asking questions or doing problems on the board) and his tests are relatively easier than the problems in the book.
I think Dr. Cusick did a great job of explaining things during class. But when it comes to the tests you should do a lot of hw problems so you'll be ready to get them done quickly. I always had trouble finishing on time. And beware the final if it is multiple choice.. no partial credit and you need to get the EXACT answers! You HAVE to study a LOT!
I took Dr. Cusick 3 times (2 A's and a C). He is very smart, though to be perfectly honest he's not all that great at communicating his ideas sometimes. I really like him as a person though, and think that he will do everything in his power to help a student who is willing to learn. He also tries to make math class fun!
Excellent professor, gives help by tickets for extra credit. Any questions asked will be answered. Would advise to anyone
Well if you want an easy A take Lancaster and a TI-89... might even be a better teacher when it comes to fundamentals... but when it comes to the hardcore calculus Cusick is the man... I just wish he would let me use my TI-89 like lancaster... heh. Cusick is very helpful and encouraging and his point system is a great redeemer.
Dr. Cusick is a great prof, very helpful, easy to work with, challenging, but not impossible. Highly recommended.
Dr. Cusick is HILLARIOUS! At first, he seems a little nerdy, but he really knows his stuff! He has a lot of little rules, but some of them are helpful, like giving "tickets" for board work and asking questions. I hate math and he actually made the class really interesting! Take him!
I loved him! I didn't think it was possible for me to learn Calculus! He had very helpful hints to learn from. Even though a lot of his metaphores are clear as mud, they do make sense. Some people had a hard time in there, but for me I enjoyed math for the first time since....since...well, for the first time ever. :)
Cusick is an awesome man and he's also very funny. He makes class fun and interesting. He is quite technical and is picky when grading. Tests can be a little tough, but if you have good attendance and get your tickets, you'll be fine. He's a little odd, but a very very nice, understanding, and entertaining man.
His tests are really hard. Ask questions in class and go to the board and do problems. Those tickets can save your grade!
He is the most horrible teacher I have ever had! He is too smart to teach a class lower than calculus. We never even finished the required material for the course thus were totally unprepared for the departmentalized exam!! The worst math class ever. Please, do not take this professor!! The only positive thing I can say is that he is nice.
He was a well meaning teacher, but if you need someone to teach you the material, I would advise staying away from Dr.Cusick! His tickets may have been his saving grace, but I gained nothing from this class besides a headache during the Departamentalized Final, in which we never even got through the material! Not a good teacher.
If you attend class, ask questions, and do board work, it will make up for low exam grades. Offers extra credit for blood donations. Wasn't always clear on his ideas, but definitely willing to try many different ways to help you understand. I highly reccomend if you want to learn something in a math class. He made me love calculus!
Really nice guy. Horrible teacher for the material.
Pretty easy class and a funny guy. His teachiing skills may be lacking... i didnt learn much and it left like a waste of my time. We spend 2/3 of the class reviewing homework. Nice guy but doesnt teach you much
Very smart man, makes hard math look easy. Sometimes seems to forget that not everyone understands math as fundamentally as he does, but will be happy to explain things once he gets that you are having problems. To exceed in this class ASK QUESTIONS!! No matter how stupid or basic you think it is, ask! I promise you that this will help!
Weird but knows his stuff worked hard and got a C. But i also realized math is not for me.
Cusick is a nit-picker. i knew every stitch of material, however, i never got better than a 67% on a test. i passed the class with a B due to my attendance and daily participation. he makes math fun, but i would not recommend him if you're easily frustrated. his tests are too long for the allotted time.
Amazing professor. He knows his stuff and makes learning math fun. His tests are hard if you don't study so make sure you do ALL of the problems. Always ask questions, no matter how stupid. They will save your grade.
Dr. Cusick really knows his stuff. What I like most about his class is his desire for the students to participate in class. You have to get involved to like this class.
Dr. Cusick is the man you want to take if you plan on taking Calc1-3. In Calc 1 he will try his best to not only teach you to grind through problems, but to understand the fundamentals of Calculus. He LOVES calculus and it shines through his teaching. His exams aren't that bad as long as you do the homework (there's a lot of HW) and PARTICIPATE.
Dr. Cusick is a great teacher. He is very enthusiastic, very kind, and willing to help with any questions you have. Ask questions every day; you get extra credit. He also grades on attendence. The tests are difficult; do all of the homework and MAKE FLASH CARDS. They are very helpful and he might give extra credit for them on the final exam.
Great teacher for all calculus courses (1-3). He is incredibly smart and knows his stuff. He teaches very well and makes sure everyone is on pace, but it takes effort from the student to get a good grade. DO ALL HOMEWORK because he grades extremely tough. Even other professors know he has difficult tests. Ask questions, make flash cards, do work.
Dr. Cusick is tough but is the best in the department. He grades hard and will take off points for anything. Ask questions and go to the board. DO NOT FALL BEHIND! He gives little extra credit and beyond that he will not help your grade no matter how hard your work ethic. If you have a D+, he will not let you advance. So work hard from the start!
Speaking out of honesty, I'm pretty decent at math. I made a 94% in my calculus I class, and then I bumped into this guy. If you have questions, don't expect detailed answers. He'll give you "hints" that aren't even very helpful. If you take his class, you have to teach yourself calculus II. You had also be ready to speak in class... EVERY DAY
Although Cusick knows his material and Calculus like the back of his hand, he has difficulty being able to readily make it accessible for students. Sometimes it is honestly easier to tune him out, ask a question, get credit, and read the book for better understanding. Attendance (although to necessarily mandatory) is counted everyday.
His is very good and knows his stuff. He believes math is fun but you have to earn the grade so keep up with homework and participtate. Do all extra credit oppertunities. Ask questions.
Best professor I've ever had. Made the class interesting and has a great sense of humor. Highly highly recommended.
One of the best professors i have ever had. He prepares you really well for each test so if you don't pass his class it is all your fault.
Great sense of humor. REALLY made you think for the answer, never gave you straight forward response. Great teacher, knows EVERYTHING, I loved the class.
Not that great of a professor. He gives you points for coming to class, so attendance is mandatory kind of. Gives points for asking questions, going to board, donating blood. Homework isnt taken up, but I dont feel like he actually teaches you the material or does examples on the board.Basically students teach students from boardwork.
Awesome!
This class is hard, but you will know your stuff when you are done. He really cares about whether you learn or not.
Awesome teacher. Won't spoon feed you but makes you reach. homework every night. to succeed ATTEND DAILY! his class is hard but you leave really knowing your stuff if you pay attention. great personality and will joke with the class. not a class for the lazy and attendance challenged
Wouldn't tell anyone to take his class. Attendence is mandatory. That's the only ways to actually pass the class. Can't really miss even one or two days or failing class. Tests are confusing. He doesn't explain to our levels. Expects us to know EVERYTHING.
Attendance isn't really mandatory but you lost points for missing days. What I really hated about this course was that the homework was usually given first and then the material was taught. Do not expect a clear answer to questions you ask. The professor is really nice though and has a good sense of humor. I had to teach myself some of the material
He is all about students asking questions and going to the board. He gives out tickets for this that can make or break your grade. Attendance is important, homework every night but not for a grade. Tests are not too bad if you understand the material and study. Loves to ask about definitions of things. Funny and a nice person.
Cusick has a very nontraditional grading policy in which he awards students for talking and doing board work in front of the class (easy points). that being said his tests are quite difficult, this is the first math class I've EVER taken that I haven't received an A in, but I don't blame Cusick for that, this class covers hard content!
I had to teach myself, but the tests are not hard.
He is just an old man with plenty of experience at teaching Calculus. The man is sarcastic as one can get so if you aren't fond of that, consider someone else. He isn't mean and curves his exams generously. Simply study the homework problems and you really can't go wrong with this.
Do not take Dr. Cusick. Though I'm sure is is very knowledgeable in mathematics, he is not good at teaching them. You will have to teach yourself the material. Tests are tough and he doesn't curve except for the final. He also isn't generous with partial credit. 30% of your grade is participation and attendance; don't expect to sit in the back.
I'm sure he's a nice man,not good at teaching. Material taken from a book that he said is not good. Begins class with homework questions. One person doesn't understand something, teaching time is taken to explain it. Heavy explanations of homework leads to not being taught material for next homework. I can't use my TI36 I used on the ACT. TI30 max.
This class is killing me but I can honestly say that I will have learned more from him than any other math teacher. Be prepared to do homework every single night and to not get a good grade unless you actually study. He pays attention to who works hard and curves your final grade accordingly. Take him, but be prepared to work your ass off.
Dr. Cusick is such a sweet man & a great professor. He truly wants his students to succeed, not just in class, but in life too. He gives participation credit for working problems on the board and asking questions. So always do the homework, even though its not for a grade - it adds up in the end! Pay attention and do the homework and you'll do fine
Do not take Cusick if you aren't comfortable getting in front of the class to work out problems. Also, his lectures are very confusing so be prepared to teach yourself. He doesn't answer questions clearly. Cusick is a hilarious, wonderful man, but I wouldn't suggest him to someone who isn't already strong in calculus.
Just completed my Calc II final a few hours ago. Dr. Cusick is a demanding but very caring professor; he gives crystal-clear explanations, taking the time to show you how to build integrals, and where the ideas come from. Be prepared to WORK. The final was VERY thorough, and touched on everything we covered. I hope I have another class with Cusick!
Very hard class and difficult tests, but he knows how hard it is so he gives a lot of extra credit. Funny guy who's easy to talk to. If you take his class GET ALL THE TICKETS YOU CAN!
CLASS PARTICIPATION IS EVERYTHING. Dr. Cusick rewards students for taking time do actually do the homework and demonstrate it on the board. He gives out extra credit slips for asking questions and rewards "board points" for solving problems at the board. The more you participate, the better the grade. Fantastic man, shy kids stay away though..
Hes pretty cool
Dr. Cusick is a professor who, though difficult, genuinely cares for his students and wants you to in the end, "learn mathematics" as he would say. His tests can be very difficult but he wants you to do well and provides plenty of extra opportunities for you to do so.
Amazing class, calc 2 is very hard but Dr. Cusick explains things very well. Participation is a must for more points. Class points are out of a zero-sum-game and tests are curved using standard deviation. Great class and learned a lot. I would recommend him for any math class as he genuinely cares about the students learning the material.
Dr. Cusick is a good professor. He cares that you learn the material. The thing I liked most about his class is he gives credit out for asking questions and going up to the board to work out homework problems. Attendance is mandatory, it is taken as a grade also. I found the material hard, but not unbearable.
This is a teach yourself class, you will be doing it all on your own with no help from the professor. Class participation is required, you will not pass this class without doing board work and asking questions out loud. Highly do not recommend for the simple fact that you have to teach yourself.
Dr. Cusick is one of the best math professors I have had. He made a hard subject (Calculus) fairly easy to understand. Do all homework assignments. He gives extra credit points to those that ask questions and do problems on the board at the beginning of every class. With a good amount of effort, it is not hard to do well in this class.
Be prepared to teach yourself. Put in the effort and you should do fine, though I'd take somebody else.
Dr. Cusick is the best professor I've ever had. He genuinely cares about each student and making sure you are learning the core concepts, not just quick cookbook calculus. Does an excellent job of clarifying complex topics. MUST PARTICIPATE! Generous with exam points. Tough material, but you won't find a better professor to teach you. Take Cusick!
Good professor. Lots of extra credit if you're willing to do it.
You have to teach yourself basically everything. Homework he assigns is usually easy, but when you get to the test, it's stuff you've never practiced before.
Here is the tea. Cusick is an amazing professor who really knows what he is talking about. The only problem is that he doesnt really give you many problems in class to act as a guide for the nightly homework. However, the next day he is very helpful and the problems you dont know can be worked on the board. His tests arent hard, and he is hilarious
I would strongly recommend not taking Dr. Cusicks class. He refuses to teach the material, and is only interested in participation in class and homework. You have to teach yourself all of the material, I have found YouTube to be a huge help. This class has honestly made me want to switch my major from math, its terrible. Do not take.
Be prepared to learn when coming to Dr. Cusicks Calculus classes. He is the best teacher Ive ever had Calculus wise. His tests are not hard, but you still need to work your ass off in his class to receive a good grade. Make sure you either get a talking ticket or board ticket every day you can and always double up on both whenever is possible too
This guy is the worst Professor Ive ever had. The only grades were the 3 Exams and the Final. The whole class was we go in one day and he gives homework. Next class we come and he has students work out questions on the board then gives homework. He never actually taught anything until the last part of the course, but by that time it was too late.
