class is hard..but you can get a good grade if you take good notes and study really well...you don't have to read the books...you have a midterm....5 page research essay..and a final..thats it...

He's nice

Few grades (two tests and a paper) but grades fairly, curves, and gives a very unique perspective on many topics. Class is very intresting Highly recomended.

He is a great professor!!! He has an extensive kowledge n understanding of the material. He gives lots of great examples to help us understand. His exams r easy; they come straight from his notes; u don't need any of the books if u attend lectures n take good notes. I highly recommend this class!!!

His class could be boring at times but he seems really passionate about this subject. He had a paper and two exams and didn't really check with attendance.

Pay attention in class and do the reading assignments. The material is interesting and makes the class worth taking-especially to satisfy a global understanding requirement. Two exams-multiple choice, and one research paper. Not bad.

Such a nice professor. Interesting class. Fair and kind. You really have to go class because that's where all the tests come from. Great class, highly recommend it.

GREAT lecturer. knows his stuff, and most if it is pretty interesting. doesnt involve the class enough, but he's really chill. knows sh!t happens. midterm/final/one paper. so grading can be difficult. midterm wasnt as hard as i thought it would be. flexibility with the essay b/c he offered many options. its a pretty cool class til the paper is due

He's ... interesting, to say the least. I was able to follow his lectures easily, but a lot of my fellow students aren't used to his teaching style, which is very understandable. He knows what he's talking about, but he goes off on random tangents and never really finishes his original thoughts. He's also rather technologically impaired...

He likes to talk A LOT!. he is very knowledgeable about everything he says. Class did get boring at times. The reading is ridiculous, I ended up not doing it and just came to every class and took notes. 3 exams. Sometimes he does combination of multiple choice & essay. Sometimes all essay:/ Overall he means well and is a good teacher

Great prof. tries his best to get everyone in class to participate in the discussions. He is very knowledgeable about world religion. He is really chill. Unless you?re majoring in religion it?s not really a fun topic so lectures tend to be long and boring. Overall, participate and do the reading and you should be good.

this dude is the chillest teacher on the planet. you can come to class late and leave in the middle he doesnt care, I mean hes a religion teacher, hes one with the universe and stuff

He's a great teacher - I knew absolutely nothing about Islam coming into this class, and now I have a solid foundation in it. You really need to pay attention in class. There is no homework, if you take good notes and study them you will do well. He's very intuitive and bright, so the class isn't "easy," but it's worth taking.

He's a good teacher. You will learn a lot. I thought this class was very straightforward and informative. If you don't do well on tests, it may not be for you - there is no homework. But if you pay attention in class, you'll get good grades. He'll give you something to think about rather than telling you what to think.

This class is really easy. You just show up and listen to lecture while taking notes and you can get a really easy A. I didn't have any problems with this class.

His lectures can be really fascinating! He knows so much about what he teaches. He's a nice guy, funny, and will try to clarify if you have questions (sometimes beats around the bush, though). Do the reading, take lecture notes, and you'll be fine. Easy grader on essays.

Generally it's a pretty easy class. He makes religion an interesting subject to listen to. Lectures can be long, but you can tell he's really passionate about what he's talking about. Assigns readings, but I never read anything and did well on the tests. 3 tests for the entire semester. Pay attention, take notes, show up. Not a bad class.

I really, really liked this class. Dr. Dakake is really passionate about religion and the material he teaches. He lectures the whole class and will use literally every minute, but I find his lectures fascinating. Attendance isn't required but it's much easier if you go, otherwise you'll have to really work for your grade.

Nice guy, super knowledgable. Does not require attendance or participation but if you want to do well on the tests than you should attend and listen. grade is just comprised of three exams. Very straightforward class, would recommend.

This semester I slacked off outside of class. All I did was show up and write down the important things he said. I easily got an A. The only preparation I did for the test was studying for 1 hour literally right before it. I'm not saying you can get A's by doing what I did, but that was my experience. I wouldn't consider myself to be smart either.

Overall an easy class. His study guides were very helpful for the exams and if you have it memorized you get an easy A on the tests. The lectures get confusing at times cause he seems to ramble on so its hard sometimes to know what to write down, but just write as much as you can and you'll do fine.

My favorite class. I think the way Professor Dakake teaches is very easy to understand and he makes the religions very interesting. He is always ready to answer questions and explains thoroughly. There are only three tests but they aren't that hard as he provides a study guide. I recommend hand writing notes! Also read all of Black Elk!

The class is very easy. Only three tests, and he emails a study guide a week before the test. No homework, but you'll want to read the Black Elk Speaks book and the other reading to prepare for the test. Dakake really only cares that you learn, and he is willing to answer any questions you have. He answers emails relatively quickly. Great class.

he talks a lot, and i mean a lot. about 90% of the things he says arent relevant to the current chapter we are learning and gets off topic a lot. easy grader, very very nice offers help anytime. tests arent that easy though

Prof. Dakake is one of my favorite professors that I have ever had a Mason! He speaks loud & clear for entire class, so be prepared to take lots of notes. I suggest bringing a laptop since he talks very quickly with a lot of information. He was very understanding when I couldn't make an exam due to family emergency. 10/10 would take again!

If you are interested in religion, you will love him. He is very knowledgeable on all religions, and has a very unique and interesting perspective. The class is based 99.9% on his lectures, so come to class! Tests can be tricky if you haven't studied, and he is a tough grader on the essay portion. Great professor, highly recommend taking his class!

Dakake (Day-Cake) is an incredible professor. He really seems to love the subject he teaches. Attendance isn't taken, but there are no posted notes or anything for this class, just lectures and readings. Exams aren't cumulative and are up to 20 multiple choice and one written response question. Make sure to read the books carefully, they show up!

He is a nice guy and very knowledgeable on all religions, but the course is very lecture-heavy. Attendance is not taken but if you don't come you don't get the notes. 3 tests, not cumulative. 20 multiple choice, usually one essay. He is a tough grader on the essays. All in all, he was not bad. The material can just become boring.

He is a wealth of knowledge. If you do the readings and pay attention in class, you will do fine. Good study guide to three test . You need to do the readings from the two paperback books! Not a lot of work.

This class isn't very time-consuming. There isn't any homework or quizzes. Only 3 exams, 3 papers which average out to a test grade. you need to attend class to take notes. There are no slides, he writes vocab words down on the board and defines them and lectures the whole time. .

Graded by 3 exams. Thats it. Attendance isnt mandatory but encouraged bc he doesnt post any notes online. Nothing. Tests were multiple choice. He gives books that we have to read bc he asks questions about them on tests. Hes very knowledgeable and I enjoyed his lectures.

He's pretty easygoing. You have to pay attention in class or really read the book to be able to pass. The tests are a little harder but if you take good notes, you'll be fine. There are also 3 assignments and all super short (1 or 2 paragraphs) which are so easy and 3 exams. Overall easy class

Prof. Dakakes class was really pretty easy. Show up, take notes. The test questions really come directly from his lecture topics. He gives study guides for each of the tests but didnt really need them. Hes very clear, practically tells you the answers for the test. It was an easy class.

Dakake is a very nice guy and always makes himself available to students. The tests were basically obvious from his lectures and the study guides that he gives. No surprises and no pop quizzes on readings. I definitely learned a lot! Would definitely take another class with him.

Super class!!! I learned a lot from this class. Dakake was a really understanding professor. I had a personal issue at the beginning of the semester and he was really cool about it. Very chill

I took this class last semester and loved it. Prof Dakake is super helpful, even gives his mobile number for you to call him anytime if you have questions or just need to talk. This class was really different from what I expected and changed even what I thought reality was. You wont regret it!

Prof. Dakake is great!!! He really inspires you to think about your life and what it all means. I came into this class just to fulfill a requirement and with a lot of ideas about what religion was and he really showed me a new way of thinking about things that has changed how I view things now. You can't go wrong with taking this guy's class.

I am not a religious person but I loved this class! This guy really changed my mind about the value of religion in my life. This is probably the best class I have taken at Mason!

As long as you write/type out everything he's saying, especially if he writes them on the whiteboard, and review the study guide emails he will give you, your honestly set. His class was pretty laid-back imo, just lecture-heavy but it's interesting. I didn't use the textbook at all but use it if you want more clarification on the subjects.

I took this class just to get a Mason gen ed credit, but I ended up loving this class. I looked forward to going to lectures, and found myself learning way more in the class than I expected to. Professor Dakake was a phenomenal lecturer, and the tests were based off of what we learned in class. I highly recommend taking his classes!

Chill guy!! the three tests are the main thing ur graded on & has u answer two out of six questions that are free response. doesn't post lecture notes or really has note slides. take notes on what he SAYS and write what he talks about on the topic on the tests essentially. can call him outside of class for help and he'll gladly explain things to u.

Really great professor! He's super knowledgable on all the topics we covered. My only critic is that sometimes he spends way too much time on one thing and we weren't able to cover everything we needed to. You have to go to class to get notes bc he doesn't post anything online. Only grades are 3 tests so just make sure you go to class and study!

3 non-cummulative, short answer tests make up 33% of the grade each. They are only a couple questions and based solely on the lecture. He provided supplemental readings so attendance is not required, but highly encouraged. His lectures are usually very interesting, though he has a tendency to go on tangents. If you show up and take notes ur golden.

Took a class on Islam and it was SO informative. As a muslim, I learned a lot, and he had clear lectures that were closely related to the few exams. No homework. Basically, show up to the lectures, listen, take notes, and you will do fine on the exams I can assure you. Not to mention his study guides were guiding questions like the exam questions.

if you struggle taking notes dont take him. Other then that the professor is chill and knowledgeable has 3 easy tests if you attend class, If you show up and take notes, youll do good, he curves His lectures are great but he speaks slow and he repeats his previous lectures often. but hes great. no need to do the readings. his study guide is clear.

Professor Dakake was great. When he describes the setup of his class, it may sound like it will be difficult..... as long as you PAY ATTENTION and TAKE NOTES in class, you will be just fine. The readings help retain. knowledge, but the lectures are most important. GO TO CLASS... and you will be just fine.

I love Dakake! He is super well spoken and I could listen to him lecture for hours. Hes very passionate. It's important you take notes during class and read the assigned textbooks after. I found no problem doing either- it's pretty easy and enjoyable. He is super open to questions and doesn't make anybody feel bad for asking them. Take him!!!

The best professor at George Mason University. Take his class if you can. I took his class because I needed elective course credits and I ended up loving this course. His lectures are so awesome and informational. Only a midterm and a final that is not too hard at all. He is a literal Gem. Absolutely amazing and very caring.

Oh my god I loved my class with Dakake this semester!! He is very smart, and immerses you when he lectures. He speaks on every religion as if he's been a believer of all of them, which makes it so nice. 3 tests and nothing is posted online, just go to the lectures and take descriptive notes. he puts good curves.I looked forward to the lectures.

Professor Dakake is beyond perfect when it comes to helping students. So much so that he allows us to call him anytime we have questions. Textbook is online and FREE, so taking him might save you money. The class is graded on 3 non cumulative exams. There is a study guide for each, but he does not post lecture notes, so you will need to go to class

David is very chill and understanding. I got away with not reading anything but wouldn't recommend. GO TO LECTURES. He does not record or post slideshows. He doesn't use slideshows, only occasional images and texts from the textbooks. 3 exams consisting of 20 multiple choice and 1essay prompt. Provides study guides but it's just a guide.

Doesn't provide any (graded) material besides the exams, but he gives clear guidelines on how to study for the exams. GO TO CLASS because that's where all of the information comes from. There's guided reading material on blackboard but the lectures are extremely important. He is a nice guy though so don't be afraid to ask questions.

Not a difficult class overall; however, the lectures are the only main source of material you're going to get for the exams. Note-taking is crucial; show up to this class if you want to pass. You can get away with not completing the readings (it's way too much). He does curve. He doesn't provide powerpoints so your notes are based off what he says.

Prof. Dakake selects key verses from the Quran on various topics and gives his understanding of their meanings. Then, he invites the class to say how they read them. Muslim student responses based on what they previously learned are especially interesting. This exchange provides an insight into the Islamic world. Highly recommend the class.

Great professor and he really cares about what he teaches about. Take notes in class and also read whatever he tells you, because he will ask you questions on things he did not lecture about. As long as you pay attention you will pass. He definitely had a bias against christianity though, he would constantly try to prove it wrong in class.

NEED TO SHOW UP, HAS NO SLIDES POSTED. Lectures were amazing and super interesting. Have to type fast to keep up. Writes everything needed to know for the test on the board. Only graded on 3 tests (on paper with multiple choice and written section). Tells you exactly what to write about in class, PAY ATTENTION. Gives study guide out before test.

Great professor! Amazing class but boring, no homework or any assignments just 3 tests. U have to read a book which is free on GMU library. If u Muslim you can easily pass the class. It just the class is very lecture heavy and he doesn't grade fast so u don't know what grade u have till end and there is no extra credits.
