Best professor take him, definitely need textbook, go to office hours!
By far my favorite professor. The average in the class is probably closer to a B-. Go to office/TA hours. TAs will help and try to get to know him because he is amazing, try to sit near the front of the class if you can. I also recommend getting a study partner where you quiz each other over notes. AMAZING AND FUNNY, genuine person. TAKE HIM
David Daniel was a really funny teacher that made me WANT to come to class. He really cares about students and wants them to succeed so always ask for help.
David Daniel was a GREAT professor, I highly recommend him for everyone. Just because he's a great teacher doesn't mean his class was easy though, I read about 40 pages a week from the textbook for this class, sometimes more. I made flashcards for every chapter which helped. It's a lot of information but if you really work hard it's doable.
Hands down the best professor I'll ever have in college. He is hilarious, and he teaches in a way that makes it easy to understand everything. Weekly quizzes based off of the readings that can be tough, and you definitely need to study for exams, but the class is worth it.
David Daniels gives great lectures and, despite his cynical exterior, cares a lot about students. I loved going to class and didn't find the tests too difficult, as long as you study. Do well on the reading quizzes because they can help your grade out in the end. 10/10, would recommend.
Definitely my favorite professor at JMU so far. His lectures are golden and he really puts info into a perspective that makes students interested and able to understand. Don't be afraid to ask him for help during office hours. He's really great at what he does. Attend classes, read the chapters, put in good effort and you should get a solid grade.
He was very funny and obviously very skilled at psychology, but seemed very lonely. :(
This was the only class I looked forward toad never missed. He even inspired me to read the book! I learned so much in this class. Such a great teacher! Do not leave. I agree with others: Do not leave JMU without taking a class from him.
Epic. Made my first semester at college fascinating. Takes the time to answer questions and his lectures are super clear (though unorthodox!). Great class.
He is by far one of my favorite professors at JMU. He is the kind of teacher that would make fun of himself in order to get the point across. He genuinely does care about his students!! Take him for psyc 101!! He is the BEST!!!
Great class! he is hilarious, and I highly recommend talking to him a few time so he knows you, I feel like it definitely helped my grade a little bit. Textbook is needed for reading quizes, the tests aren't easy but definitely not impossible. Lectures are so good!!!!!!
Tests are really hard. attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't go its hard to get a good grade. office hours are not helpful because the TAs are there and not him
I love this class! Never miss it even though 4pm sucks for class. I bombed the first test and he worked with me to improve, which I did! He is not gentle, though. He says poor performance is a problem to fix, not a character flaw. So, he just sits down and we figure i out. Bring your sense of humor, leave your drama. Best class at JMU! Hi Pickles!
Dr. Daniel is a great teacher. I like the lectures a lot, and he is very helpful in office hours. But, the TA's are not all that helpful. Luckily, he usually comes in when they are there and works with us anyway. You have to know how things work, not just definitions for the test. There is one big project. Definitely a must take class.
Great teacher! made coming to class exciting!!
This was definitely not an easy A gened, but David Daniel is probably the best professor you'll ever have. His lectures were fun and interesting and he definitely explained it well. The tests are really hard though, so you need yo put in that time to study.
One of my favorite teachers ever. Lectures are very interesting and hilarious. He explains the material very well and uses great examples to help students understand. He is always willing to help. Although, expect to read about 40 pages a week from the textbook.
cool guy
Dr. Daniel is ABSOLUTELY the BEST PROFESSOR at JMU. He loves his subject, loves teaching, and wants to help you succeed. Plus, he makes the class relate to lots of majors. Totally rocks!! TAKE THIS CLASS with DAVID DANIEL!!!
David is absolutely amazing. His lectures are so interesting and he makes things clear for students to understand. There are weekly quizzes on chapter readings and tests are challenging but his class is so worth it. He is also the funniest professor you will ever have!
I LOVED this class. I'm so sad to not be able to take it again. Go to class, take good notes, and you'll get an A. His lectures are hilarious while also teaching you the information. Kept me engaged the entire hour and 15 minutes. One of the best at JMU. Also, his dog Pickles is adorable, and she came to almost every class.
Dr. Daniel is the man! His lectures are great and really helps you understand the hard concepts that are in the book. Reading the book is pretty key since he only goes over a handful of topics in class. Great guy, greater teacher, and enjoyed his class even though I had to work hard for a B. Please take him!
I was so excited to take this class because I had heard great things about David, but this was the hardest class I've ever taken. His tests are insanely hard but he is very funny and class is interesting. He tried to help me a lot and definitely showed that he cared about my grade I just couldn't understand the subject material at all.
TAKE HIM TAKE HIM TAKE HIM. Don't leave JMU without taking David Daniel. Absolutely hilarious. literally, he used to be a comedian. Lectures are awesome but study hard for his tests. the material will make sense in class but tests are all about applying it. read the text book and practice quizzes help too. i would marry him.
Lectures are very entertaining and he really does a great job at explaining the course material. Daniels really cares about his students and he WILL call you out if you're late to class. If you put in the work you'll definitely do well. MUST TAKE.
Dr. Daniel is amazing. I am awful at psychology, but he does a great job at making all things understandable and applicable to daily life. GPSYCH is a hard class in general but he makes the enviroment feel very easy going. It is a big lecture of 300 people but he still manages to get through to each student somehow. Highly recommend you take him!!!
Loved him! As long as you come to class and take good notes you will get an A. He's really caring and flexible when personal/medical issues can interfere with your schoolwork.
HE WAS REALLY HELPFUL
He's such an amazing Professor. He makes his lectures fun and informative without being boring. He's always makes his classes interesting, even if the subject isn't. Even in a class of 300 he still seems to care about every single student. One of the best professors at JMU!
Great teaching style. One of my favorite profs so far. Makes learning easy and fun
David Daniels is the best professor I have had at JMU. He doesn't like a lot of people and he is not afraid to say so. As long as you are on his good side you will be fine. His class is hard as hell for a gen ed but use the TAs and him for help and you will be fine.
I LOVED David's psyc 101 class! He used to be a stand-up comedian and is HILARIOUS in every lecture. HOWEVER, if you are just trying to fulfill a gen ed, he may not be your guy. He definitely challenges you, but offers outside help. You will learn a lot from him. He's my favorite professor and I'll be sad to not have a class with him next semester.
Dr. Daniel is a fantastic professor, he does a great job of making material interesting and relatable to real life applications. Reading the textbook and studying pretty thoroughly is still crucial for exams tho. 10/10 would recommend.
This is the worst class I have taken in my life. I understand he is super funny and cool but everything is so confusing. There was a lot of reading and vocab, not my favorite things. If you're trying to take this class just to get rid of your gen ed, DO NOT TAKE IT!!!!
Lectures are funny, interesting, and makes the information easy to grasp. This class is by no means an easy gen-ed but if you read and study it shouldn't be too bad.
FREAKING LOVE THIS MAN! Literally brings his dog every class, is so hilarious, and absolutely loves his students. He makes psyc so interesting and relatable to real life that it makes it so much easier. Has prelecture online quizzes but arent too hard, exams arent too bad but definitely study the lecture notes (must go to class to get).
Dr. Daniel was possibly the best professor I have had at JMU. He has a real passion for what he teaches and makes the lecture fun and upbeat. This class does require alot of reading and there are online quizzes almost every week. 4 exams that are all cumulative. A lot of the stuff on the tests comes right out of his lectures. He is the best!
Hes so awesome. Hes so willing to help and sooo funny. The tests are hard but you really learn the material. Just read book and take notes.
Dr. Daniel is the funniest professor I've ever had. He's not afraid to tell it like it is, and he's also very non biased and will simply make fun of everyone which is great. definitely a solid guy, but his class is one of the hardest gen eds I've taken. the tests are tricky, but just read the book and see him during office hours, it'll help a lot.
My fav teacher!! He cares so much about his students and if you show you care you will get kudos points! I honestly would retake this class again if I could to stay with him. The material isn't a breeze but if you study in advance and not night before, you should be fine. Also write what he says, don't copy from lecture slides, he hates it!
Professor Daniel is one of the funniest professors I have literally come in contact with. He makes class so worth going to, and i sound dumb saying that but it's so true. The class is easy to get an A in if you just do the textbook readings, but he is definitely who you want to take.
Really funny and makes lectures interesting. Tests are all application based but weekly online quizzes help to bring up your grade if you don't do well on the tests.
Professor Daniel was by far my favorite professor this semester. He's such a people person his lectures are easily to understand. HOWEVER, If you're looking for an easy A, this isn't the class. His test are pretty challenging (which is what kept me back in this class).
Such a great professor! You read a chapter weekly and take a quiz. Read it well so you'll understand what he goes through on the lecture. His lectures are really funny and reinforcing! His tests are difficult and a mix of concept and vocabulary. You'll work hard for an A, but it's so manageable and such a cool class.
This class was amazing! Although the tests were difficult and application based, I really enjoyed his lectures and he made class enjoyable! He is very funny and he has the cutest dog he brings to class. I would totally take again! Read the textbook, don't wait until the night before to study, and go to ALL the lectures and you'll be fine!
David Daniel is a very funny guy. Makes class enjoyable to be in. Don't miss class because most of what he says during his lectures is what you need to know for the tests. Not an easy A, tests are very difficult. Great guy, but too difficult for a gen-ed psyc class.
Awesome teacher! Really connects Psych to our lives. But, this class was not easy. Tests are mostly application, not just definitions. He puts in lots of extra time and effort everyday in the TA room to help students succeed. He is the only one of my profs this semester that really paid attention to students. Huge class but felt smaller. He rocks!
One of the best teachers I have had here at JMU. While I didn't need the class as a GenEd, he made it extremely enjoyable. You definitely need to study, but he makes it worth it. Don't miss you ton this entertaining, but educational experience... and he brings his dog!!!
Favorite professor so far! So funny and engaging and he genuinely cares about this profession. ALOT of reading and the tests are hard if you don't really study for them. Never takes attendance but the lectures are a big part of the exams so skipping is not recommended. Apply yourself, don't procrastinate and you'll do well. Plus he brings his dog!
AMAZING TEACHER. this class is definitely attendance mandatory. get ready to read outside of class. weekly pre lecture quizzes. 3 exams plus the final. final is cumulative. super interesting class, and my favorite class. im just not too hot at psychology. TAKE HIM
Dr. Daniels is one of the best professors I have ever had. You need to go to office hours if you need extra help or find yourself struggling and you need to go to class despite it being non mandatory, his exam are his lecture... But, his lectures are hilarious and interesting. You won't regret taking his course.
I promise you, you need this professor in your life. His lectures never failed to interest me as well as make me laugh. DO NOT SKIP THE LECTURES. They are what got me through the class because he clarified and defined things in ways that were easy to understand.
Daniel is the best teacher of my life. I slipped him a calm 100$ and he gave me a a+ on all assignments. He doesnt play games. Hes my son.
HES HILARIOUS TAKE HIS CLASS!! seriously the only class i looked forward to. Tests arent insanely hard just study i never got less than an 85. His lectures are seriously so funny but they are also really important so dont skip or youll miss a ton of stuff for the test. Also he brings his dog to class and lets people pet her
He is a great teacher and is very funny but if you don't read the textbook and know the vocabulary in each chapter you will not do well my first exam in that class the average was a 70% so just pay attention and DO THE READING!!!!!!!!
I was super excited to take a class with Dr. Daniel because I read so many great things about him. The class was just meh. Not a bad guy but not worth the hype.
Awesome class. Love how he makes lectures apply to real life. So good. Also a hard class. I was really surprised when I went to TA hours and he was personally working with students. He is really good at helping you figure out how to study better. Really good 1 on 1. He acts like he doesn't care but he obviously cares a lot. Well worth the hype!!
This class really rocks! Daniels is great at explaining. You can see it when he describes it. BUT, there is a lot of info and he tests on applications, not just vocab. Tests are mostly where the book and lecture overlap. Not all, but most. So, take GREAT notes!! Quizlets don't work well as they are just book definitions. Learn examples and reword!
AWESOME! I want him to be my new Dad!!!
He is not hot!!
I thought this class was gonna be very easy and overall a good gen ed because of the amazing ratings he's gotten. Not the case. This class is an unnecessary amount of work for a gen ed; so many readings every night and the tests are impossible. I don't blame David, but PSYCH 101 is just hard in general. Take 160 quite honestly for a psych gen ed.
Prof Daniels was the best professor I have had so far at JMU. He is extremely funny and makes lectures fun. The only homeowork is reading a chapter and taking a quiz on Canvas every week, but he gives you 3 tries.
THIS IS THE MOST ABSURD GEN ED. Professor Daniel knows his stuff, but he revamped his class and now it is impossible. Exams are based primarily on his lectures but has weekly quizzes on weekly chapter readings that seem pointless since most of the book info is not on the test. Do not miss class, if you wish to even pass this class. AVOID
Don't get me wrong, I love professor Daniels, but he has made this class nearly impossible now. I'd rather take engineering courses than have to go through the crazy amount of reading you have to do for this class. This class requires you to know SO SO SO much information for the tests which are cumulative and extremely difficult.
Professor Daniel is by far the best professor I have had this year. He is hilarious and really cares about his students doing well. If you are looking for an easy class though, this probably isn't the one for you. Requires a lot of effort outside the classroom. I definitely wish I had taken advantage of his office hours. He seemed to offer a ton
Dr. Daniel is a real gem. He is a great professor and he really knows what he is talking about, 100% would take again. He is not afraid to hold back on his opinions and can come off as mean, so if you're a sensitive person I don't recommend taking him, otherwise he is overall an awesome human and teacher.
Although there are weekly readings with semi-easy online quizzes, 99% of the exams are lecture based. If you take good notes and remember/understand them, you WILL get an A. His lectures are fun and entertaining, while still very informational and engaging. However, he is very sarcastic and not afraid to be a little mean, so don't be the late one.
Very good lectures, both informative and engaging. He's super sarcastic and can be a little mean, so don't walk in late. 99% of test material is from lecture, so if you go to class, take good notes, and remember and study them, you'll get an A. He makes the material interesting and worth learning, and explains how it applies to everyday life.
David Daniel is hilarious and very knowledgeable. Online quizzes once a week on material you read, which you definitely should actually read for this class. His office hours and TA office hours were extremely helpful, and his dog Pickles is amazing.
David Daniel is the funniest person I have ever met. He makes class enjoyable and interesting. It was pretty hard, as there is a lot of information, but as long as you study and read, you'll be fine. Definitely take him!!
This man is great! If you go to JMU and havent had Daniels, youre missing out. Fun class. As far as the workload goes, you have to read for the weekly quizzes. Shouldnt be more than 2 hours per week with that. Tests are kind of hard and worth a good portion of your grade. GO TO THE LECTURES. Theyre interesting and theyll help you ace the tests
If you are an international student, don't take his class. Using slangs and Hard to understand. He only mentions important things in class, even you were there, you might miss the important info by not understanding what he said, because he speaks too fast.
He's a great teachers and he really cares about getting the information across to the students. Tests aren't super difficult but if you study it's an easy A.
Exams and quizzes are tough if you do not show up to EVERY lecture and read every chapter in depth. That being said, if you show up every class taking notes and read the textbook, you're set on an easy B. He gives a lot of extra credit at the end of the semester and even more if you go by his office to dispute grades. Highly recommend his class.
He is an amazing professor that made the material fun and interesting to learn. He cares about his students and is available whenever you need him. He has TAs and office hours all the time so if you need help, you will get it. You do have to show up to class, but if you do that and take your online quizzes you will do well.
Professor Daniel may be funny, but he's not here to help you succeed. For a gen-ed, the class is a waste of your time for the amount of work. 16 quizzes (that are pointless - not on exams!) & 3 exams that are insanely difficult. His lectures vs the book were off & scattered throughout the semester. Best of luck if you take this class for the humor.
I took him because all of my friends spoke very highly of him. He makes a lot of jokes, but a lot are offensive towards religion, race, and sex. Lot of textbook reading. Easy A if you do the work but putting up with him is not worth it. He is completely unprofessional.
Super funny guy and is definitely willing to help anyone who is struggling with the material. Must show up to class but as long as you do the online quizzes and listen during lectures (which are always interesting to say the least) you will do fine on the tests! Definitely enjoyed his class :)
Amazing amazing amazingggg professor. took his class for a gen ed and i am so happy i did. he is so funny and made the lectures so interesting to listen to. you must do the textbook reading and quizzes if you want to do well but overall, take good notes in lecture and you will be fine for the exams! highly recommend
Dr. Daniel is the best professor at JMU! He is a pure genius and offers TONS of office hours. His lectures are so informative and hilarious at the same time! He really cares about his lectures and his students. He teaches more than just the material: he taught me new study and test taking techniques that have made me successful in college. 10/10
David Daniel is a great professor! I loved going to his class because he keeps the lectures interesting and funny. However, he will challenge you so if you're looking for an "Easy A Gen Ed" don't expect it from this class. On the other hand, if you actually want learn about psychology, this is the best Intro to Psyc course you can take.
Straight up one of the smartest and funniest professors I have come across at JMU. 10/10 would recommend. His class is informative and hilarious at the same time
Probably my favorite teacher of all time. He is hilarious and always brings his dog to class. Don't take his class if you're sensitive or don't enjoy joking around because that's all he does, but he is an amazing teacher and works very hard to make sure everyone understands the content. 80% of your grade is the tests, but that's the only bad part!
David Daniel is AMAZING. He is so funny and knowledgable about the things he lectures on. His class is not an easy A, but he is worth it. Definitely go to class, you'll fail if you don't. I would 100% take him again. I have learned SO much because of him.
You have to study for the tests but as long as you know the material you can get an A//B in the class. It's college. The more work you put in, the better you do. He keeps the lectures interesting and pulls out great examples to help you remember the information. I would take this class again in a heartbeat.
hard teacher only tests and quizzes
Although attendance isn't mandatory, his lectures are so good and really tells you what you need to know for the test and even gets "what not to study" guides. Really funny if you get that he's not being serious. Always asks if people have questions and answers them. Is always there to help in office hours. 110% recommend!!!
Very fun and entertaining, but hard. The class is mandatory and tests are hard. Grade made up almost entirely of exams. Quizzes help but are not worth much points. Great guy and will help. Hard class overall.
Go to class. His lectures tell you pretty much everything that's on the test so if you go and pay attention, you'll get at least a B on test. Only downside is that the tests are 80% of your grade so there's not a lot of fluff. Overall great guy and super chill. Funny lectures that are actually entertaining. The class is hard but I like it
He's the best!
Take this class! He's a funny dude so his lectures are interesting and as long as you put in the work (reading, taking notes, going to class etc) you'll do well. Going to class is important because his tests are lecture based, but he's funny so its 100% worth it
I love him but his class is extremely hard. I am definitely not good at psychology and it showed in this class. I studied extremely hard for the tests and the highest I have gotten was an 81, I felt like I was walking in place in this class. If you are actually good at psychology, unlike me, I totally recommend him. The online quizzes are also hard
Daniel is a hilarious guy, lectures are amazing and always entertaining as long as you aren't super sensitive. Lots of quizzes that are hard if you don't read, show up to class and read the textbook you'll do fine and have a great time. Tests are very important also
The class itself is really hard, but if you show up to lecture, pay attention, and write what he SAYS not just the powerpoint, you will do fine. He knows what he is talking about, and is so helpful one-on-one. He is so funny and makes lectures fun, but to do well you have to go to class and pay attention bc he tells you what won't be on the test.
I can honestly say Professor Daniel is the best prof I've ever had. Hilarious & insightful lectures that make the class so enjoyable you want to go. Tests are average, but he gives you "do not study" guides to help. Always willing to help a student or just talk! He brings in his dog "Pickles" making class even better. Can't stress enough, take him!
If you are easily triggered. you should avoid taking a class with Prof. Daniel. He will find you, and he will offend you. However, he's absolutely hilarious and there was never a dull moment in lecture. Make sure you take notes in class, his tests are mostly based off the lecture material.
great professor. he really knows what he is talking about and cares about how his students are doing. must read outside of class and attend lecture to succeed. cumulative midterm and final, strongly suggest going to office hours.
David Daniel was my absolute favorite professor. Beware though if you have strong political views or any other strong views because he is very opinionated and is not the best for every student. Lots and lots of reading in the textbook so prepare yourself, and yes you really should read the material for his weekly quizzes.
Professor Daniel made the lectures bearable with plenty of jokes and even some memes thrown into the power points. For the class itself, you pretty much have to memorize and know all the information from the textbook to get a good grade. It is a pretty difficult class in general, but Daniel makes it interesting. Plus his dog is super cute.
His entire class is only 4 tests, including the midterm and final. He is a great teacher and I don't think there was a single class where I didn't laugh at least once. He makes the material interesting and even easy to learn. But the class isn't easy with his lectures alone. Reading the book is super important, which I never did and regret lol
Not an easy A, but possible with moderate effort.
The best professor I've ever had. The first day was very intimidating, I was determined I was going to drop the class and switch to another teacher. Nonetheless, I'm glad I stayed. He's amazing and incredibly hilarious. He doesn't mind helping and teaches you things that will last long term. I would take him again if I had the opportunity!!
I really enjoyed this class. It made me think outside of my regular laid back thinking. This class exercised my brain HARD but it was a good thing. It helped me to practice more abstract thinking, it pushed me to study, learn and strive way harder than I ever have. I passed the class with a B and I was so happy to see that all my hard work paid off
The second week and my fav professor in the entire world.. if you need more info just sign up and find out for yourself
Though he was a great person, I don't think he taught psych that well for some people. He goes pretty fast in his lectures and all of the grades are prelecture quizzes in which you have to read the entire chapter and complete 15 MC questions in 10 minutes. Some of them were alright but others were really hard.
Best professor ever! You will have a textbook and you WILL have to read and take chapter quizzes but those are easy A's. Exams are more scenario based not memorization. He has great lectures, he's funny and he brings his dog most classes. He has 20 hour office hours, so he's always ready to answer your questions! Great class.
Goes through lectures really fast. I personally spent this semester teaching myself through the textbook and still maintain a B in the class. Must do prelecture quizzes based on entire chapters, and the tests account for 85% of your grade.
FAV TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD! He is so funny and knows so much about psych. If you're a sensitive person I wouldn't take him because he makes jokes about everyone in the class but its more loving than hurtful. he makes you love PSYCH even if its not your major. GO TO OFFICE HOURS if you get to know him he might give you extra credit
he needs to make his powerpoints accessible for students and not make it so heavily lecture based
great professor BUT tests are very hard
Love him!! His lectures are super interesting and he is hilarious!! He makes fun of everyone especially frat boys so thats a plus. As long as you go to lecture and read the chapters in the book (which aren't super dry), you will do fine in the class. Easy A for putting in just a little work.
soooo much reading. 85% of your grade is exams. mess up on one and done.
David is such an awesome guy!! jokes around a lot and makes class fun to go to even though attendance isnt mandatory. Tests are HARD so WORK and prepare for them in advance. If you listen to lecture and take good notes based on what he says you'll be fine. He also gives you points at the end of the semester to your grade
He makes psych fun! Lectures are actually interesting and engaging. It wasn't easy, but it was manageable, and as long as you go to class and pay attention/take notes, you should be fine. Best part is that he has a cute lil service dog named pickles that comes to class every time! Totally recommend.
Dr. Daniel is one real gem of a prof. Even though attendance isn't mandatory, you need to go to class. Lots of material outside of the textbook are covered in class. Only take this class if you're prepared to teach yourself the majority of the textbook by yourself.
If you read and do what he says and don't speak, you might be ok. He attacks anyone who asks questions he feels are "bad" questions. Every student has different styles of learning and teaching that they prefer, and the way David Daniel teaches may not be for you, especially if you're sensitive and introverted, I would highly recommend looking away.
Take his online courses!!! You seriously will not regret it!
He's soooooooo good.
He's fine
Greatest Gen Ed professor. Makes lectures really fun for everyone and most tests are lecture based, so show up and you'll do fine. Grading is fair and he really makes the class a fun environment. Also very easy to access outside of class. If you're esily distracted, sit closer to the front and you'll do fine. Appreciate him while you've got him.
He is one of the best professors that I have ever had. He shows tough love but it helps you learn the material. His lectures are hilarious and even though attendance isn't mandatory people show up just to laugh. He is so knowledgeable on the material and is able to communicate it to his students. I highly recomennd taking him if you get the chance
He is an awesome professor and I definitely recommend him for Psych 101, he really tries to make the lectures enjoyable. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should show up because his tests are lecture based. Overall if you want a good grade in his class, you really do have to try. Show up to class, take notes, and READ THE BOOK.
This class has a lot of reading!!! If you fail one exam, you are gone. He doesn't give a study guide or powerpoint, the only thing can use is lecture and book. But his exam is randomly selected from question bank.
He is an amazing professor! I recommend to all of my friends. He is hilarious, and really knows what he's teaching. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should go because he helps you remember everything with funny jokes and examples. Tests are lecture and book based, but if you study not bad at all! My favorite professor!
Absolutely hilarious dude. Easy A if you read the textbook, do the online quizzes, and go to class. definitely would take his class again.
The best teacher I have ever had!! Show up to class and he will tell you hints on the test and give you extra credit if you show up.
Test heavy (so if youre bad at taking tests goodluck) and if you show up to class he gives extra credit and hints.
Literally the worst class I've ever taken. I love psyc and he makes it miserable. 85% of your grade is the tests. Usually, that wouldn't scare me, but his exams are so ridiculous for a gen ed. Save yourself the stress and take anyone else.
AWFUL. Not just as a professor, but as a person he is unapproachable&critical of students/their work. This is a GEN ED yet if you fail one test the highest grade you can get is a low B or high C. Puts random assignments into Canvas and doesn't explain them. Frequent hard quizzes due every week that he even admitted dont count for much. DO NOT TAKE
Easy Class. Yes, there is a lot of reading each week about a chapter each week which is equivalent to about 30 pages. One or two times it will be double that but it is manageable if you plan ahead. Go to class, he drops hints on information you do or don't need to know for his tests. Their are many opportunities to fix your grades.
He's really funny, which makes lectures really enjoyable. His tests require studying and you need to know your stuff to get an A/B. You should show up to class and take good notes because most of the exams are based on lecture. The reading quizzes are a great way to keep your grade up and there are other easy A assignments to make up for exams
Dr. Daniel is one of the most entertaining lecturers here at JMU. You don't have to attend class to pass since attendance isn't taken BUT his tests are VERY lecture heavy. He will tell you during his lecture which specific information will definitely become a test question. His class is totally worth taking to fulfill a cluster 5 requirement.
Professor Daniel is amazing! I don't care too much for psychology, but he made the class so much better. His lectures were interesting, and he really knows what he's talking about. He is also really funny so that makes his lectures better. His tests aren't hard if you study. I had an A all year up until the final which brought me to a B+.
David Daniel is the best professor at JMU. If you need help with anything at all, he is always in his office ready to help. His lectures are interesting and easy to follow. You can get away without his book for the most part as long as you come to class and take good notes. Tests are highly lecture based.
Absolutely hilarious, and he incorporates his jokes into lecture material to help you learn and remember. Brings his dog Pickles almost every class. He wants you to learn, but will not stand for crap. You can't bs your way through this class, but if you try, you will learn and have fun.
He was my absolute favorite professor! He makes class very interesting, and as long as you attend class and take good notes (off of what he's saying not from the powerpoint) you should atleast get a B. I didnt read my textbook but paid attention in class and got an A. Take him if you havethe chance!!!
David has been my favorite professor I've had at JMU. He always had the most interesting lectures. I wouldn't suggest renting the textbook, his exams are composed of what he says during lectures. If you are struggling in his class, GO TO THE TA ROOM! They are so friendly and will sit with you and study until you are prepared for the exam.
TAKE DAVID DANIEL! Best professor at JMU, in my opinion. He cares about his students and I attended office hours a few times and he was always available. He is the funniest professor and teaches the material very well. Definitely attend class, take good notes, and read the textbook to secure an A, and it'll be worth it.
David is the best professor i have ever had!! He is very chill and funny, but makes you work for your grade. BUY THE TEXTBOOK and read it, it will be your lifeline for the weekly chapter quizzes he has you do. As long as you take really good notes and study before the exams you'll be fine. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN
He definitely cares about his topic and his students. Loves to joke around and makes it easy to remember what was reviewed in class. There are readings for most classes that are small graded quizzes online, but they are pretty easy if you pay attention to the subject.
I love David and his class. It's super interesting and David keeps you engaged during lectures. I will say this though, he makes his tests way more difficult than they should be. I'm a psych major and I struggled, even with studying all the time. Go to office hours though, I didn't and I regret it. This class isn't an easy A but I enjoyed it.
He's hilarious- You wont leave class having not smiled once. However the chapters he makes you read are quite extensive. The tests aren't that hard but what will catch you is if you think too much about the questions. Very political at times because its what his comedic material touches so if you get offended very easily dont take him.
Professor Daniel's class has been one of my favorite at JMU. His class is hilarious and lots of fun to attend. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he goes over a lot of good information for the tests. Tests aren't too bad if you have kept up with the material and understand it. Definitely a great course to take
This man is a legend, but his class is sort of hard if you don't go and read the book. Study hard for the tests and you will do fine.
He is by far the best teacher you can have if you dont get offended easily, he has a great sense of humor that i really appreciated helped find the class more entertaining so i was always engaged. If you pay attention in the lectures &read the book then its a really fun class that doesnt stress you out as much as it should bc it makes it fun
Take this class! He is an amazing professor and is really funny. He keeps all the lectures very interesting and make sure you take good notes, pay attention in class and go to class. A lot of quizzes that are 10 questions each so make sure you read before them! If you are looking for an easy A this is not the course for you.
Best class ive taken at JMU. I am not a psych major but David seriously made me consider changing majors. His lectures are amazing-always left laughing about something. Its a class that you are excited to go to if you pay attention. Material is really cool and I still find myself applying what I learned semesters later. LOVE DAVID
This class was so good I almost changed my major. Lectures are very engaging and he is hilarious and interactive with students. You learn a lot in this class that you can apply to your every day life and in my opinion this course is exactly what general education is for. The tests are tough but if you study and pay attention in class youll pass
David is hilarious, he makes psychology so interesting and even in a 200+ person class he really cares about individual students and how you do. He is available out of class and gives easy tests, I studied the night before for them every time and always got at least a B. Great professor.
David's really funny, has a pretty dry sense of humor though, but he actually makes lectures interesting, you'll want to go to class. Don't bother showing up late though, he will call you out! 4 exams (final and midterm cumulative), one paper, and a quiz before every chapter. Tests are a little unnecessarily difficult, but has constant office hours
Kind of funny. Very annoying how he's always changing the weight of assignments throughout the semester. Have to put in the effort to get a good grade.
David is my favorite professor ever! He is freaking hilarious and makes most lectures super interesting. His tests are tricky, but as long as you study you'll do fine. USE HIS OFFICE HOURS. The TA's are so helpful and so is he. They're open a lot and you can spend hours in there just studying and talking. I wish I could take this class again lol.
Professor Daniel is no doubt one of my favorite profs ever! He's so funny and he made the lectures super entertaining. I never felt the want to skip his class. The tests were a little hard, but if you read every chapter and take good lecture notes (focus more on what he's saying instead of what's on the board) you should be good. Take him!
David Daniel is absolutely one of the best teachers I have ever had. Lectures are hilarious, very engaging, and you'll learn a lot. 4 tests throughout the year that can be challenging, but if you go to class and study you'll do fine. He is always in his office and encourages students to see him if they need help. Finished with a B w/o the textbook.
Dr. Daniel is a great professor. Really cares about his students and helping them understand the material. He knows the information isn't easy so he helps you out a lot by giving extra credit and letting you come to office hours to work with him on the one paper he assigns to make sure you get full credit on it. Really funny in lecture too
For a 400 person class, Dr. Daniel did the best he could to make a bond with any student who wanted to. He is the funniest professor you will ever take and he brings his dog to class every day. Every week you have to read a chapter of the textbook and take a quiz on it before class, but they're fairly easy. He gives out a fair amount of EC.
Best teacher I have ever had. He should win an award. His class taught me how to study and take notes. The one class I looked forward to because he is so funny. Do not come late or he will tear you apart.
His concern is endearing and I like that he follows along with us according to our pace. Kind man, just needed to spend a little more time on question segment of the class.
Best professor I've ever had. Not only is he hysterical but he also truly wants you to get to know the material and to learn psychology. You can get a B or maybe even an A- if you're naturally smart but if you go to his office hours before tests, you will get an A+. He gives the best life advice &is always there for students if you need it
It definitely wasnt easy, but it was fun and I enjoyed it. Go to office hours, read the textbook, and STUDY if you want a good grade. I would also recommend not sitting in the back, I think that would have been a distraction for me at least because of the size of the class. Finally, pet pickles for me yall.
This gpsyc class was so much harder than it needed to be. he doesn't post his powerpoints, his lectures are all over the place and very vague compared to how detailed the tests were. You need to read the book thoroughly to do good on his tests. he can be funny but overall kind of a rude. I seriously would not take this class, i personally regret.
In the beginning, he sets clear guidelines about phone usage and arriving late to class, and be warned he will embarrass you if you come in after he's started class. Tests are somewhat difficult but they're 80% based on lecture so take good notes. Attendance not mandatory but definitely recommended for the tests. Raunchy but entertaining humor.
The BEST professor and teacher I've had ever. He genuinely cares for his students and slows down the content if he feels people are not understanding. He's also hilarious and makes lectures fun. Only thing is make sure you go to every. single. class. All of his exams are based off of lectures and you honestly don't even need to get the textbook.
Amazing professor, accessible outside of class and very supportive. His lectures are hilarious and interesting, I never thought about skipping or missing a lecture.
Probably the best professor I've had at JMU. Very passionate about what he teaches and genuinely cares about his students and whether they understand the material. Attendance isn't mandatory per se, but he gives random extra credit some days. Very strict on lateness to class, so if your schedule makes that hard I suggest finding a different class.
Professor Daniel was a solid teacher. Lectures were interesting and he was actually very funny. quizzes are online and tests are easy if you study. my favorite professor so far at JMU
Dr. Daniels has been my favorite professor so far in my college career. He is funny and is great at teaching.
Only my first semester, but can tell he'll always be one of my favorite professors. He's hilarious and makes you want to go to class (and it was at 4pm) because he's passionate and cares about what he's teaching. DONT be afraid to talk to him he's very accessible and his TA's are GREAT, USE THEM. Not an easy class but learned so much.
Professor Daniel is an excellent professor. He only grades the pre- quizzes and four exams, which is 88% of your grade. My advice for passing this class is coming every day, read the textbook before class starts, take good notes in class since professor daniel does not post his powerpoints. He gives EXTRA CREDIT. Go to office hours very helpful.
I loved David Daniel as a professor so much! His lectures were so interesting and he was able to relate them back to your life and things around you - he was also very funny and definitely kept you interested in what he was talking about. He doesn't post his powerpoint but they wouldn't be that helpful because everything is on what he says in class
This is my last semester at JMU and he's my absolute FAVORITE professor EVER. He has a great sense of humor and makes the class fun. If you seek him out he will help you, definitely read the chapters and complete the quizzes. Showing up isn't mandatory but he does not post slides so either go to class or get notes from a classmate.
Funniest, most relatable professor I've had. You have to read out of the text book for each chapter which are around 35 pages and is very time consuming. The tests are on lecture and the book, but aren't bad if you study. Very interesting class and lectures aren't boring. He's available a lot for office hours. Don't even try to cheat on tests!
I loved Professor' Daniel's class! It's a pretty big lecture with 300 students, but he is sure to make time for everyone that asks him. He's a funny guy which make his lectures 100% more engaging. If you want an A in the class you definitely need to read the textbook, but it's not that bad if you find psychology interesting.
honestly, this wasn't a hard class, make sure you take notes because he doesn't try to trick you on the tests its literally from the lecture, some online quizzes on readings but they're not worth much of your grade if you have a good memory this is the class for you
Great teacher for a gen ed! Huge lecture with 300 people, but he's so funny and genuinely wants you to understand the material. You have to go to class if you want to do well, & go to TA hours even if you think you're ok, they helped so much. 4 tests but not too bad - not an easy A, but an easy pass. He's BIG on cheating so don't even try it.
Professor Daniel is a chill guy and a great teacher. He wants you to really know the material so you have to work for your grade, but there isn't any reason you shouldn't pass the class. 4 tests and weekly reading quizzes that aren't bad. Skipping will do you no good since tests are lecture heavy and he randomly gives extra credit. Easy gen-ed
David is a really sarcastic funny guy that has really grasping lectures. He's a really good teacher and is always there if you need help! He's seriously the best professor Ive had so far at JMU.
David Daniel cares for his students, he really wants all of them to do well in class. He is always willing to help, answers emails fast. There is one quiz a week online on the chapter you have to read for the week. Four tests for the semester, they are not too bad just make sure that you know the material well. He is also a pretty funny guy.
Dr. Daniel is easily the best professor I've ever had at JMU. I finished with a 99 in his class but I did go to him a lot for extra help. If you respect him, you will get the grade you deserve. Also a great teacher
He is the best professor I've had at JMU. He hates being called "nice" so instead I'll say he is fair, supportive, and funny. He handled the COVID situation extremely well. There are quizzes every week and four tests that are pretty average. I got the E-Book and used their practice quizzes to study. I wish I had more room to say how amazing he is.
Dr. Daniel is amazing!! Take him if you can! Hes really amazing at what he teaches and he really cares about every student in his class! His lectures are interesting and hes so funny, so I never found myself bored in class. Would definitely take again!!
This class was awesome! Hes a great professor and seriously funny so I was never bored in class. The material was interesting and he did a good job teaching it! He cares a lot about his students and wants everyone to succeed. He was also great online through the whole COVID situation. Hes got your back! Definitely take him if you can!!
Handled the pandemic super well. Always sent us emails w updates about everything to assure us we were all ok. Lectures were hilarious and entertaining. He gives great examples to get the material to stick. Tests were a little hard & theres a project to boost your grade. Always brought pickles (his dog) to class... shes so cute!!
Honestly, I don't know why he has gotten so many good reviews. in class he says some weird things that he thinks are funny but definitely aren't. His tests are hard and he spends a majority of class calling people out for emails they've sent or group me messages. Wouldn't take again
This man is an absolute goon and I love him. He teaches the topics really well, while also making the class super engaging. He's super funny and easy to talk to, but he's also extraordinarily smart. We were online for most of the semester but he still made the class something I did not want to miss. Just pay attention and take notes you're good.
I didnt enjoy my time in this class as much as I expected to. He was very adamant on having in person class during covid that for the first few weeks it didnt seem like he cared much about the online students. Overall, he is funny and seems like a nice guys but I didnt feel much respected as a student.
Dr. Daniel is a wonderful professor! He tries to accommodate each student in his large classes and hes super funny. He cares about students education however hes blunt and will not lie to you.
Daniel is a great professor, teaches the material in a fun manner. He is heavy on pre-lecture quizzes, which you have to read the textbook for, and exams are hefty in this class. If you pay attention in class and slightly study, you will be fine :)
Swear to god this is the easiest teacher you will ever have. Honestly you just need to read the textbook to pass, don't even have to go to lecture. Let me turn in a couple assignments late. He's a sweetie. People kind of take advantage of him which is sad but he's just soo nice. 10/10 would recommend if you just want an easy A.
Dr. Daniel is one of a kind. Hes hilarious with his lectures, explains material well, and loves to help students to do the best they can. He really knows what hes talking about and if you take good notes from lectures, read the textbook, and study a day or two before the test you will be good. Just put in the work and youll be fine.
Really worth the reading. His lectures are super interesting and he really cares about his job. You have to read the book to succeed but in the end it was totally worth it.
I say "class non mandatory" because its basically your choice to pass or fail. I had my struggles with this class but the lectures were very engaging and one of the only classes I looked forward to attending. This was a hybrid class (optional), and the professor was available for help almost every time I needed it. Highly reccomend this class!!
Dr. Daniel is a really funny guy. He tries his hardest to make lectures interesting and keep you intrigued, and he does a good job of it. Pre-lecture quizzes every week but not too bad. Content is interesting and he is very knowledgable. If you have to take 101, take him!
David Daniel is a very funny guy but he does come off kind of mean though so be ready. He explains everything very well in lectures and there is a good amount of reading that you have to do each week with a pre-lecture quiz every week which does not affect your grade at all. The grade in this class is all in his exams. Worth taking.
If you are taking psych 101, do yourself a favor and take Dr. Daniel's course. The man is an absolute gem, funny, witty, cares about his students, and is extremely knowledgeable. All you have to do to get a solid B/B+ is skim through the chapters, and take decent notes. Do not skip lectures though or you will struggle. Please take this mans class.
If you are taking psych101, do yourself a favor and take Dr. Daniels course. The guy is funny, cares about his students, and super knowledgeable. You need to go to lectures to get a good grade, but if you take even slightly decent notes and study a little bit before a test its an easy B/B+. Dude is a gem, TAKE THIS CLASS.
David is a great teacher and knows how to joke around while giving informative lectures. His weekly quizzes are sometimes hard and you definitely have to do the readings and take notes. He always wants to give you extra points when he can but you just have to show up on time and pay attention (*definitely in the beginning of class**)
Dr. Daniel is without a doubt the best professor you will ever have. Show up to every single class and every single study session, SHOW HIM YOU CARE. He wants his students to do well and will help if you need it without fail. Pay attention to everything he says during lectures, that is what is on the exams. Such a great guy and loved the class.
He is a super funny guy, but he also is passionate for what he teaches. Warning: Do not take this class if (often crude) jokes make you uncomfortable. Many I know avoid him because of his blunt personality and crude jokes, but if that does not bother you, take him! You have to do a fair share of work, but you learn a lot. Be engaged; he likes that.
If you don't understand sarcasm, don't take him. He is pretty accommodating and understanding. He likes to joke around but is serious about what he is teaching. Take his class
If you're looking for an easy A/A-, this isn't the class for you. He by far gave the best tips about anything you needed. If you take the effort to ask questions, be engaged, and go to office hours, you'll definitely be on his good side (and it pays off). His lectures are so interesting and engaging. Because of this, you will want to go to class.
Professor Daniel is the kindest most genuine professor I've had so far at JMU. While his class is fairly difficult for a gen ed, he really strives to do anything and everything he can to make sure that you succeed and that you actually understand the material. Also, his lectures are actually interesting and he makes you want to listen!
This is the class that taught me how to take notes and do well in college. Take it and it will make your life easier. Also, he is hella funny.
David Daniel is an amazing choice for psyc 101! it is not an easy class but it is definitely worth while! his lectures are super interesting and entertaining. Lots of textbook reading usually weekly. He has us read the chapter, take a quiz and then he teaches about it. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS!!! he goes over the test questions and gives examples!
I have no doubt in my mind Professor Daniels is the funniest professor at JMU. Hes hilarious.I do have to say get ready to read. Weekly chapter in the textbook(30-50 pages) and a quiz with it. 4 exams worth 80% of your grade so whatever you get on the exams is basically your grade. Its definitely not an easy A but a very enjoyable class.
Professor Daniels is super funny, and his lectures are extremely entertaining. Be prepared to get called out or picked on in class and don't take everything he says personally. He respects his students and expects them to be responsible, so keep up to date with assignments by checking Canvas daily and don't procrastinate on the readings.
He is the best teacher I have had in a while. He wants to make sure everyone understands what he is talking about. His office hours are very useful. Make sure your phone is on silent because if you get a call he will drop everything and answer your phone. His dog pickles is a gem
LOVE PROFESSOR DANIEL! TAKE HIM FOR PSYCH101. He is soooo funny, BRINGS HIS DOG TO CLASS, and is so educated in psychology. It is my major so I'm a little bias, but the class was so interesting and well-structured. The only thing is that it is content heavy and the textbook chapters are very time-consuming; but it's pretty cheap which was a plus.
Professor Daniel is a funny man and his lectures are never boring. There are weekly quizzes you have to read about 30-40 textbook pages for each week, which is difficult to do, but if you take good notes the class is an easy A (not everyone's a good notetaker though). He provides lots of help outside class so if you ever need it don't worry!
He is an absolutely amazing professor. He's so knowledgeable and one of the funniest people I've met. He also brings his dog to class! Textbook chapters are very time consuming for the pre-lecture quizzes but if you take good notes in class and go over the book briefly, you'll do fine on the exams.
Gotta say his sense of humor is jarring at times, but other than that, he is a really good lecturer- super engaging and open to questions. No attendance policy, long readings (do them tho). Reading quizzes are take-home, tests and quizzes arent hard if you study. So overall, if you can stand the awkward humor I highly recommend him as a professor.
As a Psychology major, I loved this class. Dr. Daniels can come across as harsh at times, but hes really caring of his students and wants you to do well. Overall, this wont be an easy A, but I would recommend it.
this man is so funny hes my fav professor ive had the work each week is reading a textbook chapter and taking a pre-lecture quiz before the classes that week which is actually nice to know the basis before the lectures the tests arent too bad if you study but if you dont go to class youll miss a lot but the lectures are very interesting
David Daniel is definitely a celebrity of JMU. He is hilarious, kind, and knows how to keep a lecture interesting. However, he has a natural sense of sarcasm that can be found easily offensive. He was previously a comedian, so you can expect lectures to be very interesting. DO NOT SKIP HIS LECTURES. Everything from the lectures will be on an exam.
Professor Daniel is a funny teacher, and he makes himself accessible after class, but you MUST perform well on tests. Tests are 80% of your grade, there is no coming up from those if you do not do well on the tests.
David Daniel is an AMAZING professor. He is an expert in his craft and he really wants his students to succeed. He is absolutely HILARIOUS and always knew how to keep the class interested. The material can be heavy and definitely requires studying, but Professor Daniel always kept us informed about what was coming up and was always there to help.
David Daniel is arguably the funniest teacher at JMU and makes lectures very enjoyable. However, this class is 80% tests and there are only 4 exams. Don't miss class because you will miss important information and he doesn't post on canvas. There is pre-lecture quizzes that are very easy if you read the chapter but EXAMS ARE SUPER IMPORTANT.
David Daniels is hands down the funniest professor. If you're sensitive, don't take him he will hurt your feelings at some point. Material is hard and he knows that but still does everything in his power to make you understand. He genuinely cares about his students and them succeeding. I loved this class, the test were just hard so READ the book
Hands-down the best professor I have ever had. Although the class is difficult, his lectures are super engaging and he makes the best out of it. Hoping to take another class with him someday. Listen to what he says during lectures as he typically says exactly what the answer is on the test (So don't just copy the slides).
The best professor you will ever have. Super engaging and you can tell he truly cares about his students. Attendance is not taken but you will miss a lot of important test content if you don't go. He made each lecture something I looked forward to. He is super helpful if you don't understand the content and his dog, Pickles, is adorable.
i would take this class over and over again. i learned so much bout pysch and he really is an amazing teacher. now i see psyc everywhere in life and have a greater understanding on the world. this class was very eye opening. go to his office hours they are sooo helpful and make sure to go over your tests. i would recommend this class 1000 percent!
David Daniels' is a great professor, even though he told me I was acting like a dumb blonde. He is very sarcastic and funny, and keeps the lectures enjoyable. Tests are worth 80% of your grade and quizzes are worth around 15%. Not a very easy class but very enjoyable, I highly recommend
greatest professor on campus. hes hilarious and brings his dog pickles to class. you have to put in effort or else it'll be hard but he cares a lot about his students. his office hours help a ton too. do what you can to get him as your professor.
Dr. Daniel is awesome. He's very frank, matter of fact, and very personable. I will say, his class is difficult, probably more than with any other psych101 professor. If you're looking for an easy A, I'd skip him. If you're looking for a genuinely engaging class, take him. One criticism: there's an excess of reading of material that isn't tested.
My fav prof this year. Super funny and entertaining lectures. Also my easiest A because I knew everything from AP Psych. I never read the chapters and only studied the night before but still ended with a 95. Definitely would recommend if psych comes easy for you. 3 exams, weekly chapter quizzes from the textbook, and a final. DO THE SONA SO EARLY.
Do not take this professor! He is a very funny guy, but it is very difficult to do well on his tests. He gives out 4 tests worth 80% of grade and pre-lecture quizzes that helped my grade by 2 points. You need to study for weeks to memorize all the information I gained nothing besides a bad GPA from this class. :)
David is AMAZING! Please, take this class. I feel so privileged that I was able to learn from him this semester. He is incredibly intelligent and funny, but you must work HARD (attend classes, read each chapter, study in depth for each exam) to do well. Trust me, it will be worth it!!!
He is not the best choice for PYSC 101. His tests are insanely difficult and worth a majority of your grade. He assigns a lot of reading and his lectures are not very helpful. I would take someone else and ignore the positive ratings.
Don't be put off by the negative reviews- David Daniel is truly a good professor. His class is not easy, but if you show up, take notes, and read the textbook, it's not that difficult. As long as you put some effort in, you'll be fine. Lectures are humorous and engaging.
Best lectures I have ever heard. So funny and engaging, Dr. Daniel wants you to learn for more than just the test. He makes you work for your grade, but it is so worth it. Really accessible outside of class; answered every email I sent within 10 minutes. I honestly wish he taught another lower level psych class. If you can take him, do it. The best
Go to class, take notes in ur own words based on what he says(not powerpoint), and u will pass. He is funny and engaging and im happy i had him as a freshman cuz i learned so much. Reading quizzes are annoying but manageable. He gives some extra credit so go to every class. Tests are written based on lectures so study lecture notes and ur good.
Such a funny teacher and lectures are really engaging. He genuinely cares about his students and wants to help, though sometimes he's harsh, but you can't take it personally. You have to put effort into his class, but show up to office hours and show you care and you'll be fine. I'd definitely take the class again because I learned so much
I found his class super challenging but LOVED him as a professor. There are 4 tests that are 80% of your grade, so you HAVE to study and read the book. All tests are pretty much based on the lecture so even though attendance isnt mandatory, you kinda have to go to class. Hes hilarious, but dont take him if you get easily offended.
Daniels is very funny and entertaining. He keeps lectures interesting and informative. I found that because of his lecture style, I did not have to study as much because I still retained the information since I was not bored during class. It is a lot of material in the class, though.
Dr. Daniel is THE most dedicated teacher at JMU and the best by far. He works for hours everyday with students in his office and HIS TIPS WORK (helped me in all of my classes, not just his). Class is optional, but not really: most of his test is hinted at in lecture. His tests are not just memorizing, so be careful if you are a Quizlet junkie!
he is rude and is worthless do not take him idk why his rate is so high
The test is 80% of your grade. Your other grades in quizzes don't mean anything. I've studied twenty hours for a week and still failed the first test by 57%. I choose this professor because of his high rating, yet I was fooled by it.
He was alright
Tons of reading, lots of quizzes, and very packed lectures. It's not an easy class, but also not the worst. His lectures are memorable and if you pay attention and take good notes you'll be fine.
Absolutely the best at JMU. Go for help outside of class. He is always available and has lots of study tricks that can help. Definitely go to class. Lectures are usually very interesting.
Dr. Daniel's class was hard but totally worth it! He is always willing to help out when you need study tips. ALWAYS go to office hours to study with TAs. Lectures are very interesting. 4 tests, lecture pre-quizzes, some reading, but he is dedicated to helping you learn even when he doesn't seem like it.
Dr. Daniel is a great professor who really cares about his students learning. This class may seem hard for a gen ed, but if you're willing to put the effort in for studying, you'll be just fine. He tries to make the lectures entertaining and relatable to help students understand the material. You will definitely learn something from this class.
I HIGHLY recommend taking Dr.Daniel. He makes his lectures fun and interesting and sneaks tips on how to learn into each and every class. His tests are fairly easy as long as you study. He is one of my favorite teachers here at JMU and cares a lot about your success in his class as long as you prove that you care. TAKE HIM!
Tip for whoever takes him, even when he says he will not boost your grade, try going into his office hours and ask for one WITH giving legitimate reason/circumstances of course, he might do it for you because I think deep down he really cares about his students. Even if he comes off intimidating to some people or not your type, he's a sweet dude.
If I could retake any class,it would be David Daniels's class! He is the most motivational, inspiring teacher who truly cares about his students! His lectures are hilarious&so informative! The skills that I learned from him and his classes have helped me throughout my academic career. He truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed in life
Dr. Daniel is my favorite professor at JMU. Yes this class is hard but he makes sure you actually learn something. And if you go to office hours, which you DEFINITELY should, it will become so much easier.
This class is by no means easy, but if you go to the lectures and read, you can pass. His lectures are pretty entertaining and he makes the material interesting. Weekly quizzes, 4 exams. The exams are worth a lot of your grade so you have to do well on them. Also, if you take notes on a computer you have to sit in the back 3 rows. Good pick for 101
David Daniels is a great lecturer that is very passionate about psychology. His class grades on 4 new exams he makes every year based on the lectures. He does not post material and all material on the exam is said to be covered in the lecture. The questions on his exams are difficult and confusingly worded, nothing like exams given in class.
Don't be fooled by his high ranking, do not take this class unless you are looking to go into psych. As someone who is not a psych major, this is the hardest gen ed I have taken at jmu. His ranking is high because of how much he talks about his credibility and how good of a professor he is.
Gives thorough and fun lectures that cover everything on the tests. His lectures are amazing and he is constantly cracking jokes (his humor can be edgy at times). Not many graded assignments and tests are weighted heavy. Attendance is not mandatory but if you do not attend class you will fail as he does not post his PowerPoints online.
most interesting class I have taken at JMU and I'm not anything close to a psych major. Haven't read the textbook once or gone to TA hours and still received an A, just pay attention to lecture and use the tips he gives CONSTANTLY about how to study well.
I was fooled by his high rating. Don't be like me. If you are a psych major you will probably think the class is great but if you're not BEWARE. For tests he uses the book and lectures so if you don't read AND go to class you probably wont do well on tests. He also doesn't upload the answers to previous tests to study with so its hard to study.
He was extremely disrespectful and made me feel uncomfortable. I took him because he had amazing reviews, but his class was way too hard to be a gen ed. He doesn't have PowerPoints or anything you are supposed to write down things just as he says them in class. He locks the door right when class starts so you can't get in.
Some tips: What he says is far more important than his PowerPoint, so be sure to focus on him rather than copy stuff down from the slides. He has TA Hours so be sure to take advantage of them. The class is challenging, so communicate when you need help and he will do everything he can to assist you. He is awesome, I would highly recommend him!
I didn't read the textbook that much, I just went to class and listened to his lectures. His lectures are important, he doesn't take attendance but as long as you go you will be fine. He has 4 tests and some online quizzes before each chapter, they aren't hard, just skim the chapter and you'll be good. Go to his TA hours if you are struggling!
Very straightforward guy, he tells you exactly how to succeed in his class. He has a textbook but only for online reading quizzes. Listen to what he has to say, it is valuable to go to class even though he doesn't take attendance. His TA hours will save you if you are confused. Use them! This guy is super awesome, he knows what he's talking about.
He is the best, lectures are so funny. Attendance is not mandatory but the tests are on what he says in the lecture, he doesn't post slides and the class is entertaining so it is worth going. It is a lot of material and reading but it is interesting.
David Daniel is a funny guy & willing to help, but the class is just so much material & it's pretty hard if you've never taken a psych class. You need to go to lecture to pass, though attendance is not mandatory. We have weekly quizzes but your grade comes mostly from exams. He does give extra credit points for showing up sometimes. Not an easy A
Hands down my favorite professor at JMU. Took his 400 level class because I enjoyed his gen Psyc class so much. This class was not an easy A, David expects you to put in the work for your grade but that means you actually leave the class learning something. He genuinely cared about our learning throughout the semester. Always available to help.
Really funny guy and lectures are always entertaining. Psychology was a hard subject for me and I found the exams were hard only because there was so much info to study. However, most of the exam questions are answered in class, so GO TO CLASS. Plus he gave out a lot of extra credit if you went to class everyday.
Dr. Daniel is my favorite professor. His lectures are amazing and are so funny. The tests are pretty hard but if you study and go to all of the lectures you have a pretty good chance of passing. I would also recommend going to his office hours to study. You won't regret taking this class.
He is a great guy with great lectures, I just couldn't pass his tests. Tests are worth 80% of your grade and they are HARD. I wish I didn't have to withdraw because I truly enjoyed him as a teacher and going to his class. he cares about the ones who care. read the book
This was his first time teaching it and it was so unorganized. No syllabus provided during the entire semester, I overheard him in office hours making fun of students who were upset over their grades, gives rude feedback and then doesn't explain how to improve, etc. Probably one of the most unprofessional professor I've had.
Great guy! He is extremely knowledgeable and very nice. If you're just taking this for a Gen Ed and want an easy A, I would take another class. However, if you want to actually learn, he is by far the best option.
Probably the smartest man I have ever talked to. Very few classes I can wake up and be genuinely excited about being at his lectures. The TAs very very helpful and he was always so helpful out of class. MUST TAKE CLASS!!!!!!
The goodest boy. A little timid at first but warms up to you when you put in the extra time and belly rubs @office hours. Oh and Prof dd's is 5/5 stars. P.S. - my only class that didn't require attendance yet I showed up to his the most. P.P.S. - He WILL bark at you if you show up late or vape in class. #pickles4pres
Absolutely love David Daniel!! His lectures are so interesting and engaging, and he makes a lot of jokes to connect with the students. Attendance isn't mandatory, but the tests are almost entirely from the lectures, so I would attend and take notes. Not super easy for a Gen-Ed, but very interesting!
I cried on the first day because his class sounded so hard, but he makes his lectures so funny and relatable and I always enjoy coming to class. He WANTS you to succeed and has office hours every day. No computer notes though. TAKE HIM!!
Google hottest professor at JMU... you might be disappointed
Very funny guy. His dog is everywhere and I love her. The tests can be a bit difficult but that's only if you don't study. Go to the lectures and take notes, if you miss one then make sure you have a friend in class to send you them. Cool guy. Great graphic T-shirts. Do not show up late to lecture tho or u may be bullied lol
David really cares about his students, and he makes his lectures memorable and interesting. He will always make you laugh. With that being said, if you go to his lectures and put in the time studying you can do well in his class. Tests are the main grades and they're difficult but as long as you study it is very worth it.
You use the textbook every week for reading quizzes. They're not too bad and you get a lot of them so they don't affect your grade that much. He doesn't care about attendance but all his exams are based on what he says in lectures. His exams are honestly not that bad if you listen in class. He's funny and intimidating at first but he's really nice.
I loved Professor Daniel's class. His teaching methods are very inclusive and he makes class fun! Unfortunately, he is the professor that you need to listen more to what he is saying versus what is on the board or in the textbook. His TA hours are extremely helpful and I would suggest taking advantage of them to pass his class!
A nice guy but his teaching style did not work for me. Quizzes were based off of textbook readings and test were based off of primarily lectures. You cant take notes on the power points, he puts up false information, take notes on what he says. I studied for test and usually got a 70%. gen ed for me but was still one of my most difficult classes
He is a great guy and genuinely wants to help. His lectures are engaging because he is so funny. He brings his dog to class which is always enjoyable. On the other hand, lectures are jam packed with so much information. You can't use a computer unless you sit in the last row of the lecture hall or if you have an accommodation. 4 tests: 85% of grade
I took this as an Asynchronous Online Class over the summer. I only spoke with the professor twice; once at the beginning of the class and another time during the summer when I had a question about a topic that was in the TB. You basically had to just read and take quizzes and a few tests.
I love Prof. Daniel's lectures and his class is the one I look forward to most. His lecture style is so funny and he's really good at explaining concepts in ways that make sense. Attendance isn't mandatory but you'll miss crucial information if you just read the textbook, plus he gives extra credit some days for people who show up. 10/10 reccomend
david is awesome! super engaging and hilarious- really made the lectures easy to comprehend while not super boring. really cares and offers flexible ta hours and extra credit if you go to class- tests are really heavy but you'll pass if you just go to lectures and write down what he says. has a cute fluffy white dog named pickles :)
He may be leaving for another job but I am so happy to have had him as a professor! His lectures were very entertaining and I felt as though they made it easier to memorize. It is a lot of content and can be a harder class, but he makes it enjoyable!
I love professor Daniels. The first day of classes I was terrified of him and certain I was going to drop out of his class. He acts scary to try to weed out students. His class is definitely the most difficult class I've taken this semester, bc there was a lot of reading and heavy weighted tests. Going to the TA room is the best way to study.
I really enjoyed professor Daniel. He made the class so much more enjoyable than any other professor and he simplified difficult concepts to make it easier to understand. You have to take good notes and study because basically everything from the tests were from lecture. He could, however, be very blunt and rude sometimes, especially over emails.
The absolute GOAT. He doesn't just teach psychology, but also how to succeed in any college class. Most of your grade is 4 exams, based mostly on lecture content. He is leaving for another job and is not for sure returning to JMU, but I know he reads these. Plus, if he ever does come back take this class, whether for GenEd or major, or elective.
Absolutely LOVED this Profesor. He taught me so much and was probably one of the most best professors I have ever had. TAKE HIM if u want to learn and get a lot out of the class after it! If I could have him again I would take him again in a heartbeat! Overall best class and Profesor at JMU.
By far the best professor I've ever had. The exams are difficult but as long as you study and pay attention in class you will pass. His lectures definitely help you understand what you are learning and they are interesting. He is an amazing professor and this was the only class I felt like I truly learned in and he was very funny.
Professor Daniels is a great teacher who wants his students to learn. Lecture is important even though attendance is optional. Lecture has most of the test info, so make sure to go. He also makes great jokes during lecture to keep it fun. Weekly readings of 30 pages in the textbook with quizzes each week. Class is 100% worth it, take Daniels.
Unfortunately, Dr. Daniel isn't returning for the Spring but if he ever does come back, I 10/10 recommend. If you want an easy grade don't take this class, but he is seriously a fantastic teacher and if you attend the lectures and get extra help from TAs, you will be fine! I was so excited to go to this class at 9:30am and that's saying something.
You MUST do well on tests in this class. If you are not a good test-taker, I do not recommend as tests make up 85% of your grade. Hilarious Professor that is accessible outside of the classroom, but definitely a tougher gen-ed that requires more time.
he's an amazing lecturer. I genuinely learned so much and his class is making me seriously consider majoring in psych. Very funny and knows how to make an early lecture worth going it. For a gen ed, its hard. So if you're looking for an easy class, don't take it. But if you want to learn, he's worth it.
LOVE David. He is such a good teacher and I would take him again in a heart beat. I never read the textbook and still got by. You have to go to class because that's what all of the test are based on (85% of your grade). He makes class so enjoyable and easy to follow. GO TO OFFICE HOURS they help SO much, they are big study sessions. Take this class
Dr. Daniel is probably the best teacher/professor I have ever had. His lectures are amazing, it's one of the classes you are excited to go to every day. Tests are 85% of the grade, but they are not difficult if you go to every class. Dr. Daniel cares a lot about his students and he wants you to do well.
David Daniel was definitely the best professor I had since being at college. He was excited about teaching and always made lectures fun. He was there outside of class to help students and wanted you to succeed. I definitely recommend taking advantage of his office hours. It is a lot of work for a gen-ed but not too bad. I loved his class!
GOAT of lecturing and teaching to be honest, in all my years of school I haven't enjoyed anyone as much as Dr. Daniel. Showing up to class MATTERS 100000% (Gives extra credit fpr going). Easy to listen to and very knowledgeable about psych. His tests are centered around some textbook stuff and a lot of what he says, so go. Dont cheat btw he'll know
I loved this class. The lectures were clear and funny. You don't have to go to class, but if you want to pass, you should go. Sometimes you can get extra credit for going. He also teaches you how to take good notes.
Genuinely the best teacher I've ever had. The exams are hard but if you come to class, do the textbook reading, and actually study you'll be fine. Learned so much.
Overall, he is a very good professor. He made class enjoyable and I really liked it. The exams are kind of tough but if you put in the work then you will do fine. I think his class is definitely worth taking, but the exams are worth a huge part of your grade, so if you are not a good test taker, then take someone else.
By far my favorite professor. I took his class as a GenEd and ended up declaring my major as psychology because I loved it so much. He is funny and truly cares for each student. Attendance isn't mandatory but you have to go if you want to do well on the exams. The chapter quizzes are easy if you actually read. 100% recommend!
Dr. Daniel is an amazing professor, but if you aren't a good test taker I wouldn't take this class. 85% exams but you can a good amount of extra credit added to them by going to class. Dr. Daniel was super funny and I genuinely enjoyed his lectures.
David Daniel is the best professor you could take for this class. He is smart and knows what he's talking about. He helps you learn and not just memorize. You should go to class because you will fail the exams if you don't. Super funny guy and cares a lot about his students. You have to put in work but its worth it! TAKE HIM!!!
