after having to take comp 2 for a second time this teacher really knew what he was doing he actually relates it to rel life, if you can believe that. he helps you do what you need to do

davis is the best english teacher ever! i learned so much and enjoyed the class at the same time. i highly recommend taking any class he teaches! he is an absolute blast
So he needs to stop flipping his hair and that is very distracting when you are trying to learn from him. His humor is his own. He was okay as a teacher but it was boring and your grade was all over place.... not just mine.

Never have papers passed out to give the class example of what paragraph we should do. He just gave the paper, discuss and say DISMISS! Only 30 mins class or so. SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!
He is a very hard grader and does not give a clear outline of the assignment. He also likes to challenge your opinions and comes off bigheaded. He said at the beginning of the course that he was not going to get into political debates, but that is all it has been.
I liked prof. davis, he was funny, smart and actually helpful. he grades hard on format/content. if theres one piece of advice for his class, its to show up on rough draft day and get in a good proofreading group. Recommended

If you don't like corny jokes and someone talking about theirself a lot them I wouldn't reccommend him but he is a pretty good teacher and he is very helpful. He got me over my writing fears.
this is the teacher to have if you hate writing. you'll learn so much and not even realize it. fun teacher all around, likes to tell stories and jokes

I took his writing class, and i think hes a great teacher!.....he makes you laugh...he grades kind of hard, but if your in class everyday then you will understand everything that is taught, and you will get good grades on your papers. he makes sure you understand. he cracks jokes on people, but its funny.

Great teacher. He is very clear about what he wants in his papers. He tells you at the beginning of the class when he is availible to help you and is always willing to help. The jokes are kind of corny but, hey it makes it fun. Gives you plenty of time to write papers, you should never feel rushed. Great teacher I highly recommend.

D Davis is absolutley amazing. He is halarious and very entertaining to watch and listen to. I almosted switched majors to stay with him... almost, and still considering.
I absolutely LOVED him!!! He's a great professor. He grades a little tough but he is very clear about what he wants. He knows his stuff and then some. :) He made class super fun. I hated english before him. Know not as much, I understand it soo much better!!
Supposedly good in class. Horrible online. Multiple class mates had issues w/ submitting work and then receiving an F with notes saying they never turned it in, also won't reply to your emails or meet with you to solve the problem. All assignments are group based and heavily dependent on others, if members drop he offers no direction no how to cope
I would NEVER recommend this teacher to anyone. He was not at all helpful to me, and was extremely provoking.
*online class* I was very excited about this course until after three months into it I did not have one thing graded, and the Professor never emailed back. I had to call him person, and he assured he would fix it. I went into my final paper and final with only two or three quizzes graded, and we were lost on our project. Don't take online w/him!
*Online*Terrible online teacher, I took this class as a retake after I had taken Comp1 and 2 and he grades like its a graduate class. He doesn't care about the students. Just some easy money over the summer probably.
Took this class on campus. I would not advise anyone to help him. When you got papers back he would just give you your grade no reasoing behind it. One time he marked me down for have 2 subjects but that was what he told me to write about. He is very cocky and he can never be wrong never willing to help a student when its needed.
Loved him, Great/BEST Teacher iv ever had for English. if you show up in class you are told what he wants/expects to be in the completed work. he does grade hard because he gave you all the info you need to do the work. (don't over complicate the class) you do have a textbook but you dont use it much just for examples.

TERRIBLE! This is undoubtedly the worst professor I have come across. I had a friend with a graduate degree look over almost every paper, and this teacher never gave out passing marks. The word on the street is that half of the class will fail. He routinely took 3+ weeks to grade papers too!
Professor is the worst instructor I have had to date. Writing is not my area of strength and he did nothing to improve. Very hard class. If this is your only choice of classes then wait and take it later. Enroll early.
Davis is the best teacher I've had yet. Extremely personable, very clear on objectives. He made class fun and something to look forward to. If you want a sharp teacher with a bend towards all things nerdy, this is your guy. (Also, for an older guy: pretty damn good looking.)
He emailed saying there was an emergency, after that no contact. For me feedback is a huge part of learning. I was doing the work without knowing what grade it earned. When he finally did grade the 1st over a month later I found out I had been doing them wrong. Would have been nice to know when it could have helped. I feel cheated and frustrated.

This is a basic class, he was very hard and liked to put a lot Of trick question on quizzes and essays and paragraphs he was never satisfied.
This is one of the funnest teachers I have had. Grades a bit slow but is willing to talk about the grades once you get them. I liked Science fiction before but Dave made it even better. Would recommend this class to anyone. Just pay attention and there are no surprises on the tests. Would take him again in a heartbeat.
This had been my favorite professor! Hes funny and clever, but he makes class interesting and easy to understand. He is always glad to help with anything and anwser any question. I took this class with a different professor the semester before and he was very hard to understand and I got an F. But since im re-taking this class with davis I have a B
Very fustrating class because he wouldn't grade things in a timely manner. It would be 2-3 weeks to a month before we would get anything graded. And could of got better grades if we had them back. And trying to email him to ask him questions was like talking to a wall rarely got responded to. I got a good grade. But VERY UNHAPPY with him.
Very harsh at grading. It doesn't seem to matter if you wrote a paper for hours or a few minutes. Even when you followed the outline.Takes weeks or over a month to grade a paper. Having him respond back to your e-mails takes weeks too. You are pretty much on your own in his class. He treats his students like kids. Avoid this teacher if possible.

Such a fun teacher, very passionate about the genre and had hilarious insight into everything we learned. Always a laid back environment, not too challenging midterm and finals, essays were interesting and he was an incredibly accurate grader.
SUPER EASY. We rarely had any homework, mostly papers. If you do the required papers that he gives you & follows the directions exactly the way he explains, you should pass with no problems.
I took his Science Fiction course and had a great time. He treated all the students respectfully and was obviously excited to discuss the stories we read. Hilarious, but never at a student's expense. Dry sense of humor, very intelligent, and good at getting the class to engage. He was easygoing and worked with me when I missed class for a trip.
My first impression of this class was that I was going to absolutely dread it. I was wrong I loved this class. I have never been particularly strong in any of my previous English classes but David really does a great job of making sure your papers are on the right tract. It is a very easy class just make sure to turn in all your papers in time.
I have never liked taking English before but I loved this class and will most likely take another class from him.
He takes A LONG time to put grades in. He didn't always email back to emails which made it very hard to know what was going on with your grade. There was no attendance so you didn't have to be there all the time he always had the slides online for you to look at. Also we barely used the textbook. If you talk to him in class he will try to help you.
This was the most frustrating class I have ever taken. I took it over the summer online. We would have papers every due every week. It took SEVERAL weeks to get the grade back for the first paper. I didn't know how I scored on 5/6 papers until after I turned in the final paper. I will never take another of his classes again.
Please avoid taking this professor. Knows how to talk and engage in lectures/powerpoints... But is very unorganized at the same time. Does not give ANY feedback on your essays and makes a lot of excuses. NEVER RESPONDS TO EMAILS! His grading is a bit rough too. I didn't learn a thing in there. He was a funny guy, though.
Took Comp 1 online. Professor Davis does not grade in a timely manner. It makes it impossible to improve. His comments are cursory at best and he does not include enough examples or specifics in the small amount of feedback he gives. DO NOT TAKE. He is nowhere near present enough in the online classroom. Must be easy money for him, though.
Great teacher. He engages with his class very well. Gives great ideas for paragraphs and essay you have to write. Slow to Grade and respond to Emails and to grade papers. I recommend this teacher for Eng 106.
Funny guy in person. Don't take him. You will set yourself up for failure. He takes entirely too long to grade papers. You will have essays done and a month or more later he harshly grades it where you've already moved onto other assignments. I just now got my grades for assignments I wrote over spring break.
If you take this class do not take it online. He is better in person. Online he takes too long to grade papers. You don't get grades back until closer towards the end of the course when it's too late to correct your papers. Does NOT email back with answers to your questions.

If I relied on Prof. Davis ratings, I wouldn't have taken his class, but I am SO glad I did! He is WONDERFUL in class. He makes you enjoy coming each week. He takes a while to grade papers, however I am willing to compromise for the fact that he cares, isn't a tough grader, and doesn't overload you with homework. I am taking him for my future class
Funny in a nerdy way, energetic, passionate about English. Very slow to grade, so if you need feedback asap might not be the prof for you.
Prof Davis was always out of town and didn't get papers graded on time. In an entry level class you expect to learn something but in this class you don't because you receive no real feedback beside snarky remarks. I now have a 3.95 gpa which would be a 4.0 had he done his job. I would not recommend this proffesor to anyone.
I wish I had found this site before choosing a prof. I haven't learned anything, He is very slow to grade and does not give you time to correct errors because it seems like he grades at the last minute. I did learn that he has very snarky remarks. this is one prof. I WILL NEVER TAKE AGAIN.
I took Prof. Davis's Literature of Science Fiction class because it sounded fun. It was, but I also learned a lot. He is an incredible teacher.
I was in Professor Davis's online intro to writing class. I haven't been in school awhile and this was a course to get you ready for Comp I. This is a really easy class. I saw a couple of complaints about this course, but if you can't get a good grade here, college probably isn't for you. Assignments tell you exactly what to do. Easy A.
I took professor Davis for English 106 face to face and loved the class so much I took his online Comp I. Both were great classes, but definitely take him face to face. His was the one class I really looked forward to attending.
This was my favorite class ever. Dave Davis is an amazing lecturer. He knows science fiction better than anyone I've met. He really got the whole class to get involved. I really miss being in this class.
Show up, do the work and you'll pass the class. He gives you plenty of time to complete everything and follows the syllabus. He encourages you to take a day off when it is nice out as long as you aren't behind. He helps you grow into your potential! Even responds to emails while on vacation! Hilarious

he was probably the worst teacher i have ever had. took forever to grade things, does not give clear feedback and does not respond back to emails. he is a tough grader & when he does grade things he does not explain why you received the grade. took this during the summer & its harder than any of my other classes bc of lack of effort from professor
First of all I read others past students of his reviews after it was too late to switch and to my dismay all of it was correct .at first he emailed back and told me thing I need to work on when I asked in a email but after that he stopped. It been almost 3weeks since the last essay was due. It like he hate being a professor
I can't believe the run of low marks. I t looks like all by one student. This is one of the best online classes I have taken.
I was really worried about going back to college, but Professor Davis helped me get my writing where it needed to be.
I took the science fiction class because I thought it would I already knew sci-fi. Professor Davis showed me how much more there was to know. Great class. I just wish I could have taken it face to face.
Gives you essays and paragraphs to write hes not specific at all and takes weeeeeks to grade your paper so if you fail last minute dont be surprised and he grades so hard this class is suppose to help us like he needs to calm down horrible experience.
Do not touch this professor with a ten foot pole. He is a "know it all" about every subject... incredibly arrogant. He once gave me a "C" for only one critique. (The critique being that he disagreed with me on a hot button issue.)

Never responds to emails and isnt very understanding or kind.
He does not respond to emails when you need them answered. He leaves the email sitting there for days before responding, sometimes even after the due date of the assignment that you are questioning. He did not respond to emails for 2 weeks this semester. He also lacks putting the assignments on Canvas on time, and has a tough grading criteria
When you e-mail doesn't answer for weeks. Some papers will not be graded and then you wait until class is over to find out if you failed or not because of two or 3 assignments not graded.
I took this class online and this was the most difficult class I have ever taken. The grading was so subjective and he offered very little feedback on the critiques of a paper. It took him a long time to grade papers and it was nearly impossible to reach him via email. I would highly recommend taking a different professor!
The WORST professor EVER. He never responds to emails and he adds/changes assignments .He is VERY SARCASTIC and I would not recommend anyone take his class, stay away from this professor. He does not EVER help or answer questions. He takes a long time to grade your assignments and update your grade so you don't know where you are until it too late.
I loved this class and will most likely take another class from him.

It took months for papers to be graded. You don't know what your final score is or how you're going to make it up because it is almost the end of the semester and my second paper has yet to be graded. Tough grader and only comment I got was I got a little lost. Yet, that one comment deducted 30 points.
Overall I would not take this class if you are looking for an A. He is not clear on what he is looking for in essays and takes over a month to grade them. There are only 6 grades in the class and they are all essays. He gives minimal to no feedback on why he gave you the grade he gave for the essays. I did not learn one thing in this class.

I wouldn't recommend D. Davis to ANYONE. I took his online class and did not learn one thing. He only had essay, and graded them weeks after. He gave rude/negative feedback & wouldn't tell you what to fix, or what you needed before you submitted it. There was even a discussion post of people asking questions, and he did not answer a single. one.
Really nice guy, he starts class off easy to let students arrive and usually ends early. Feedback on papers isn't super clear and it takes him weeks to grade, he's kind of a harsh grader but when you come to him for help he is very easy to talk to
Prof Davis is nice and his lectures are usually pretty short. However, I feel like his instructions for assignments are not that clear and it takes him a while to grade your essays. He does grade pretty hard but it's nothing absurd in my opinion. If you're wanting a chill laid back professor he is the one to choose. He also does not take attendance
I took his online English class, very easy. Gave us two weeks to write a single paper. As someone who is great with English, the workload was very light.
He did not actually teach me what I was struggling with just blindly graded things without looking at his own instructions which usually made no sense or were obviously reused from previous semesters. Couldnt be bothered to change the due date on assignments, took months to grade things, and didn't reply to emails asking for help. 1/10
This was the absolute worst college experience of my life thus far and I am just beginning. I took Comp 1 this summer and thought it would be amazing to dust myself off and get back into writing but I was wrong. No clear instructions, graded things incorrectly, possible bias (unfounded at this time). Was not willing to listen to objections.
beyond unclear expectations. gives feedback when GRADING- however prior to that he leaves a lot of questions looming in the air.
