This guy is so out to lunch! But nice.

nice prof, interesting
has a lot of stories that help tie things together in the class
Lectures are fun! Keeps the course interesting!
This guy is so full of himself!
David Day is his own biggest fan, i think this much is obvious. Tone it down.
Explain topic very well
Nice enough guy. Great lectures. I like the music in the morning. Interesting.

midterms & exams are like IQ testing!!

Dr. Day is kind of cool. I have to give him props for the amount of times he has answered (sometimes bizarre)questions with I don't know and then moves on. Hey, he's a Psych Prof, not a rocket scientist.

It's odd that people think he's full of himself, i didn't see that at all. He DID answer a lot of Q's w/ I don't know . Thought that was odd. He seems to be an odd man. Not the greatest but not the worst either.
He's a great professor and went out of his way to remember me. Of all the students he's got, he remembered my name in the halls. He emails me right away when I need his help! He's not full of himself and I actually chose my minor in psychology!

Very by the book. Personally, I liked him a lot, he was very willing to help. Academically he was not the best I have ever had, but nonetheless he was enjoyable. Great anecdotes, and cute jokes.
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE!!!
I wouldn't take PSY 011 with him. There are better profs around
HARD!!
He is a nice guy and explains things well, but does go right from the textbook
Makes class interesting and does a good job. So far, so good.
Very helpful and a little lenient but very to the book and does not think outside the box. He's funny and makes class interesting. Nice but seems fake. Not bad, not great.
Great lectures... you don't really have to go, but excellently engaging
Pretty straight forward. Very capable of applied teaching yet will slow down his lectures to facilitate a class' lack of keeping up with readings.
He is XTREMELY nice and helpful. The course was good and easy to follow. His lecture was not that organiza but he is clear and concise. For the exam, YOU need to study really hard, he will ask information that you would not expect as a question.
Interesting, friendly, helpful but challenging..not an easy marker!
I loved (still love) his lectures. They are absolutely riveting. However, there really is no need to go to class because he teaches straight from the text. I aced all the tests/exams, but did not find my essay was given enough credit-I worked hard on it!
Interesting prof, Hard course
OMG! David Day is so Old School...he has no knowledge of anti-oppression and most social workers should either know or learn this....I feel so frustrated listen to him speak...so not progressive
The course would be more interesting if I hadn't heard all this stuff so many times in social work classes. If you've paid attention in any social work class you know all this stuff.
I thought I learned a lot in his first year class. He uses the text book so going to class was never a necessity and I still came out with an A, so he gets a gold star! :) I thought he actually explained the concepts quite well in class and we were given chances to ask questions! I say, GREAT JOB!
Absolutely do not have to go to class!! All mulitple choice exams that are from straight from the text. I didn't ask questions in class because I knew he didn't know the answer!! What a waste!!
Interesting course. Helpful. Concepts easy to understand if you go to class. Lots of research questions from the text on test and exam. Going over your essay outline with him will be very helpful.
LOVE him! He'll learn your name real quick and NEVER forget it :) He is easygoing, knows what he's talking about (confident), yet is able to handle being challenged by students. Really fun to listen to and his tests are multiple choice (very straightforward). Get to know him. You'll be glad you did!
He is one of the best psy teacher at ryerson. His examples are all from real world. Easy going on the exams and papers. Good learning opportunity.
oh my gosh...the boredom takes over completely. Not the prof's fault. Course material is really dry. Text is boring. Prof repeats things often. No need to go to class.
I've had him many times throughout university and he was a very effective prof. Exams are easy if you study for them the questions come right from the book or online test sites.
I think that anyone in 4th year social work has a hard time with him..or should..as he describes "disorders" but lacks a structural analysis of situations....
I went to class twice after mid terms and still got an a+; exam is straight from text. Every time i went to class i spent the whole time regretting it- not only is the material borderline- commonsense, but he will spend fourty five minutes elaborating on a concept for which a snetence's explanation would've sufficed.
great prof
elaaaaabourates on easy topics. for example "it is a long article, not short, but lengthy. very many pages. it will take a while to read because it is long. if you attempted to print it you may run out of paper or ink. inkjet if it is an injet printer, or any computer where you would print would run out of paper, but usually the ink goes first...."
Crazy prof, maybe psych's not my thing but I have had him twice and he's all over the ice. Tests are hard, and there's a lot to read.
Great professor... independant work from the text to get good grades (but that's how every psychology class is!) for all of you who think his exams are hard, yeah right! try developmental psych. This class was fair, interesting, relevant and not that hard, considering it's psychology.. I defintitely recommend it to anyone who's taking psychology!
Very good and intersting prof
Nice prof. Exams are easy as long as you read the book, though there might be a couple of questions from the lectures. The mark of the paper will be good if you really have solid references.
what an incredibly boring prof! every class, he makes me want to sleep. day also fails to take in oppressions and structural factors into account, when discussing social issues. he's also kind of a tough marker but if you do your readings and study hard, you should be okay.
The man delivers lectures that hit home while still creating a discussion environment and genuine interest in the subject matter. While his presentation does give off an extremely personable and easy-going nature, his tests reflect a high expectation of understanding, so be prepared!
prof day is extremely boring, and what i thought was a great paper ended up with a grade of C. the ta was useless and unfair
I absolutely hate this stupid man! He was soooooooo boring. He never finished an idea completely and also didn't know what he was talking about. You do not need to go to class...EVER. The course was pretty easy - but no thanks to him.
I think David's a fantastic prof- but he's not for everyone. If you're the type of student who participates/ gets a lot out of lectures you'll love him. He's a wee bit spacy at times, but it's really quite endearing. He was always available to students, and very open minded. He writes his exam questions the EXACT way he talked about it in class
he tests you on material straight from the textbook. the lectures are pretty useless... very boring, although i admit he tries hard. sometimes he pops lecture questions on exams because more than half of the class skips every lecture. but other than that if you read the textbook, you should be able to pull at least a B
boring prof. lectures makes u fall asleep. all of his tests are multiple choice (3 altogether each worth 75%) essay is worth 25%. T.A. is an extremely hard marker. No need to attend class as attendance is not mandatory. Lectures are useless. All info you need for the exams come from the textbook.
Community Psych isn't the most interesting area in psychology but Prof.Day made it fun with videos, stories & class discussions. Unfortunately, this class was dominated by non-psych students whose comments often weren't very thoughtful. I found him to be very approachable and very helpful both inside and outside the classroom! One of my favourites!
This could have been an interesting course but Prof.Day sucks all the interest out of it. His lectures go on and on, most of the time on subjects not event relevant to what were were supposed to learn. Very quickly lost all interest in this class.
I must say prior to taking this course I was rather excited about it - however, his lectures are completely useless. He'll stay at one slide for 3/4 of the lecture just repeatedly saying the same thing then will skip through all the slides b/c he's "out of time" .. possibly the worst lectures I've ever experienced.
He wasn't monotone and I liked that about him, only problem was that he would stay on a slide for half the lecture. Most of the material was left up to you. READ THE TXTBOOK. I think you could actually do just fine if you didn't show up to lecture. Overall an interesting course.
I stress that you DO NOT NEED TO GO TO CLASS. Just read the textbook and take clear notes on everything and you will do fine. Classes are boring/pointless, he stays on the same slide for hours and gets sidetracked a lot.
One of the most enjoyable classes I've taken at Ryerson thus far. Prof. is engaging, initiates thoughtful discussions, is humourous and definitely has a passion for the material he is teaching (sometin every Prof. shuld have. Highly recommended, you will learn a lot of interesting stuff. A bit of a challenging marker but worth it, without a doubt.
Such an awesome prof. Loves teaching. So helpful. Best class!
Not too difficult an essay marker, but I found his exams were pretty hard. Doesn't post very good notes either, so it's hard to study from.
Everything he teaches is straight out of the textbook - you do not need to go to his lectures. He trails off into pointless stories that have nothing to do with the lecture and takes forever move on. I approached him to clarify his essay instructions and he pretty much brushed me off. Don't take the class if you don't have to.
Very difficult professor, would highly recommend switching to a different professor's class if possible. His lectures are horribly boring, sidetracked, and often leave you wondering why you bothered going in the first place. Will cover half the slides, and tell you its up to you to learn the rest. Exams are fair. Essay was marked extremely hard.
Lecture is right out of the "taxtbook". Exams are somewhat tough, there is a lot of material you have to know for each one. Assignment was easy. Prof is boring, condescending, gets side tracked and facilitates idiotic discussion
Painfully boring lectures, very disorganized and poorly planned. Prof himself is very condescending and arrogant. He is not willing to help you if you ask him in person, he tries to get rid of students with the shortest possible responses. He doesn't even respond to questions via email.
His lectures are very boring and often sidetracked by random stories that have nothing to do with the lectures. Often makes 72 slides but only covers less then half (around 20 on a good day) of them. Dont even bother to go to classes since his exams are all out of the textbook anyways. If you can, switch classes to one with another professor.
lectures are painful to sit through. he rarely goes through slides, incites discussion that is irrelevant to lecture, and his exams are pretty tough. i'm a good psych student, but I just barely got an A- in his class. his exams include some of the hardest questions ever. if ppl do well on one test, he'll make the next one hard and vice versa.
As long as you read the book thoroughly and show the professor respect, you can do very well in his class. His tests are very fair and unsurprising.
DO NOT GO TO HIS LECTURES. Pointless. Read the textbook and you'll be very well prepared for exams. But, do NOT waste your time in lecture. Very off-topic.
Wow,there are some harsh critics out there, but I enjoyed his class.
You must read the textbook. Lectures are not really mandatory unless it's the week before a midterm/exam; he might give you some pointers. But you must study, or you won't do well.
I believe Dr. Day to be a genuine person. As a prof he has such passion for what he does although he may get a little off topic sometimes his heart is in the right place. He has great knowledge but I believe he may have a hard time conveying it to students. Going to every lecture was the reason I passed my exams though. Pleasure learning from him.
Extremely nice person with good intentions however lectures are painful to sit through. Do not need to attend them bc he barely talks about material-very off topic.
a) Half the lecture is him talking about stuff that isn't on tests and doesn't apply to texts. b) Other half of lecture is rushing through slides which are just reprints of the textbook. tl;dr: Don't bother attending lecture, it doesn't help. c) Going into his office and asking about the exam leads to condescending responses and little help.
Don't go to lecture until the week or two before tests. He usually includes questions about his research, so look that up. He rambles and gets off topic too often. The 3 hours of lecture is better spent reading the textbook where you'll actually learn something.
Don't bother going to class. He makes long powerpoints and doesn't go through the majority of the slides. He rambles SO much- attending class would be the biggest waste of your time. Read the textbook thoroughly instead. He can also be patronizing and condescending.
I have never had a professor waste so much of my time as much as David. He likes to have group discussions and talk about his life, never gets through his lecture slides. You are honestly better off skipping class and sitting down with your textbook rather than attending his lectures. Helpful lessons of actual course material are non-existent.
In my 4 years at Ryerson he is literally the worst prof I've ever had. I haven't learned anything from him. He is a horrible teacher as in he doesn't teach anything and his tests are too specific and require you to know particular sentences from the textbooks that would essentially be useless outside of this class. He gets off topic all the time.
I really enjoyed this class. The material was interesting, and the text book is an easy read. Lectures put a few topics from the book into context through video and class discussion. Professor Day proved to be an expert on the subject, and the experiences he shared with the class was relevant.
Wastes so much time talking about pointless things. Isn't clear at explaining material. Only gets through 3 slides out of 80 slides in a 3 hour period. No point of going to class. Study the book, all the test questions come from there. Exams are comprised of multiple choice and short answers. Tough marker.
Never finishes his lecture slides (doesn't even come close to) and goes off topic way too often. You must read the textbook in detail to do well in this course. The textbook is quite interesting though, I must say. The essay is marked fairly.
Extremely passionate and wants nothing but the best for his students. Nonetheless he is very ambiguous about his expectations - even if you ask! He marks as if he's expecting you to have 2 extra years of experience. I've had him twice, been the same both times. He is a rambler - beware. Textbook is a must. Exams are fair but go over EVERYTHING
His TA marks the final paper so if you want a good grade try and meet with them and go over what you want talk about and they'll suggest/ tell you exactly what they are looking for. I did this and got an A+ on the final which boosted my grade a lot. Tests were somewhat tough, he never got through an entire lecture so reading the textbook ESSENTIAL
A waste of my time and money.
Looking back, worst prof I've had at Ryerson in my 4 years while attending. The guy doesn't know how to teach, he will find ways to screw you over, one way or another. Would NEVER take any class with this prof again, waste of my time and yours too. Warned.
If you are looking for a prof to waste your time, take Day's class. I have never had a prof who rambled & went off on tangents as much as him. We would get through maybe 7-8 slides in 3 hours because this guy has no idea how to stay on track. Avoid if you can.
He's such a funny teacher, especially since social psych can get pretty dry and boring sometimes. Get's class really hyped to listen and genuinely creates a fun lecture environment. Only problem is he rarely, if EVER, get's through the lecture material so you end up having to do a lot of it on ur own, the tests are kinda confusing too
2 hours and 20 minutes into lecture and we are only on slide 11/28. The lectures are painful because you know you will just have to teach yourself the material that will be tested. Dr. Day is also very condescending so although he tries to insight discussion, no one wants to talk because he will probably just tell you, you are wrong.
I absolutely do not recommend Dr. Day. He does not stay on topic and is very unclear about what will be tested and about grading criteria. INCREDIBLY hard marker. Very unfair.
Lectures consist of absolutely nothing, everything on the exam is in the textbook, multiple choice is great, but he even tries to screw you up by asking is it a or b plus c sometimes? - meanwhile, he covered any of it in class. His lectures are dry and boring and about himself. I would never take his class again, I taught myself entire course.
Worst professor I have ever had. His class was a waste of time, however the credit was mandatory. Passed the class by just reading the textbook chapters. Seems like a nice guy though.
Dr. Day is not rude, he is very caring and respectful.. no idea what others are talking about. Lectures are interesting but barely focus on course material! You MUST buy and read the textbook. Essay is interesting, got a 90 on it (TA marked). Tests can be a bit on the difficult side especially the short answer, so go to class for those!
This professor, I'm convinced, has ADD. He NEVER stays on topic and talks about himself a lot. You have to teach yourself the course, which sucks, because 75% of the course is based on exams. Also-- he'll call you out infront of the class for using your phone, as if we're back in high school (large class sizes). Classes are pointless, textbook only
you have to teach yourself the entire course from the textbook because his lectures are a complete waste of time. theres a reason why everyone leaves a review saying dont bother going to class. he gets off topic and talks about himself and doesnt cover any of the material.... everything he does cover doesnt show up on his exams. no thanks
he seems like a very nice guy, but he is the worst professor I have ever had at ryerson. the class is 75% composed of exams, and it is never clear what is going to be on them. no true hints, tips, or mock tests/study guides. his lectures are a waste of time, you basically have to teach yourself the textbook and then regurgitate it on the exam.
Love this guy. You have to read the textbook on your own time to get most of the tested material though, which I understand may bother some people. His lectures cover a limited amount of material from the chapter, but they are very engaging, with lots of disscussions on certain topics. You 100% NEED the text book to pass this class.
The most unorganized professor I have ever had. It takes him forever to begin exams, everyone skips his lectures because not only are the exam comprised completely from the textbook, but he only gets through a few slides before he goes completely off topic and only discusses himself and his experiences. No clear grading instruction or exam hints.
Unorganized. you have to read the textbook and teach yourself. Unclear of the expectations in class and coursework. Even if you ask to elaborate and clarify it is still unclear.
Professor Day is a great guy. His lectures are very engaging and interesting, filled with many examples, however, you wont understand unless you read the textbook. You do not need to come to class to do well, but they are interesting. This class requires you to teach yourself through readings, but the exams are super easy.
While I liked this prof, he and his TA were too tough of graders for me. I am glad that I at least passed, but still. I was expecting this course to be tricky, but not at this level. His lectures were inspirational, but his test questions and tests in general and assignment as well were tricky. Try your best and READ THE TEXTBOOK to at least pass!!
Be prepared to do your notes before class. Or actually don't, because he'll skip them during the slides anyway. I like Mr. Day, very enthusiastic and engaging in terms of teaching style, but yo the level of tangents and disorganization. I Didn't buy textbook but maybe I should've. If the final was based on his personal life I think we'd all pass
Prof Day is aight. You don't have to go to lectures cause he basically talks about his life and everything tested based off the textbook. So get the textbook and be prepared to read! Overall, I would not take again because I prefer to learn from material taught and not from a textbook.
Passionate, but highly disorganized It is very common for him to: - go on long tangents that are completely unrelated to the topic and waste half the class (or more) - say something like "there are two types of X", list only one, and then go on a twenty minute unrelated rant - interrupt people asking questions to tell an irrelevant personal story
Skilled in neither Zoom nor lecturing Constantly forgets to record important information, and has "decided" that students do not need him to upload complete and updated slides
- Disrespect students - Impatient - Get annoyed when student ask questions - Call you out - Disorganized - WORST human ever -Horrible
He's a nice guy. I can see why people don't like his classes because they are a bit disorganized and he doesn't give clear instructions on assignments. Definitely need to read the textbook and understand the content on your own though. His lectures are interesting most of the time but v disorganized.
In terms of teaching, I wouldn't say he is the best. I would recommend that you take notes from the textbook, including parts that he doesn't talk about in his slides. They will be on the tests. I didn't go to his lectures after the first midterm and just took notes from the textbook on my own and did really well.
Before I took the course, I was very scared because I read the previous comments on this Professor. However, Professor Day was very informative and he had a lot of engaging discussions. If you pay attention to his lectures who can pass, the textbook is just a bonus if you are hazy with a certain topic. His recorded lectures are brief.
pretty easy course. tests and exams are pretty straightforward and he marks the assignments fair. lectures are pretty interesting too.
I've had this prof twice, but this course was a great and interesting experience! I even did way better than I expected! The TA and him were easier markers this year and I didn't fail anything! I got mostly B's and higher in this course! Only grade i got below was a 60% but that was only 5%. I did not read the textbook, but still did well :)
Don't trust the reviews (but you can trust MINE, lol). He is not nearly as bad as some people have claimed. He might seem a bit "quirky" sometimes, but he wants the best for you and if you put in the work, you can do very well. Solid guy in my eyes.
This Professor was by far the best professor in Psychology. When I took the course I read so many negative comments about him. 100% they were all wrong. If you have Professor Day then I high suggest staying in that course! He's also super understanding, he wants best for you all. I repeat DO NOT DROP THE COURSE if you have him!
Professor Day is a decent prof. Social psych wasn't my favourite subject but if you REALLY studied the textbook you have a chance of doing well. Lots of reading, and mostly exam focused, so be good at multiple choice. With lots of studying you can ace this course.
His lectures consistently fail to cover a decent scope of the content evaluated on the final exam. GET THE TEXTBOOK and memorize it, its the only chance for academic redemption. Last unit we had to completely learn on our own despite other 124 profs actually teaching it. He was semi-entertaining, but a waste of my tuition money.
No need to go to his classes because he talks a lot, insufficiently covers the topics and ONLY asks from the textbook itself. Your final mark will be based on 3 exams and a major assignment. You should do well if you spend a significant time with the textbook. Overall, easy course, interesting material. Lots to learn from the content.
He is stuck in old ways. This prof is unaccommodating, you are graded by a few things. His exams feature a short answer section which seems impossible to get full marks on. His online resources are lacking since he only posts partial lectures. You need to go to class to get all info for the exams, miss one and youre screwed.
His lectures are so fun! His is very quirky and engaging which makes the content exciting to learn. I would say that his multiple choice questions are hard to understand and are not easy. He does often tell you what the short answer questions are going to be prior to the exam which is VERY helpful. Reading the textbook is a must though!
He is unfortunately unapproachable and rigid in his grading. A good professor should acknowledge that there are circumstances outside of students' control that have an impact on their performance. Students who take initiative to speak to David should have be discouraged and dismissed. Very disappointed.
This teacher is a GPA killer. This prof will mark your assignments based on small details he did not include on the rubrics (and thus makes an A out of reach). As for the tests, they are pretty difficult since you aren't provided a study guide and are expected to read 3-4 chapters of the textbook and essentially guess what will be on the exam.
He is terrible; my tuition money was wasted. Exclusively, tests from the textbook do not grasp the material well. GET THE TEXTBOOK and fall in love with it. Attend lectures as he mentions the short questions in class. Slides are copied off the slides, and now I know more about his family life than the actual content; my GPA took a toll for sure.
Dr. Day is a good guy. He teaches concepts alright and also gave hints for what material would be short answer exam questions. His multiple choice questions, however, are very difficult and textbook based, asking about tiny details. Memorize the textbook. Him and the TA had different expectations for papers, but they weren't hard to complete.
Dr. Day is not a bad person, but he is the worst professor I have ever had. He rambles on about meaningless information not relevant to the course, often not getting into anything important until 30-40 minutes in, and sometimes that includes getting past the *title slide*. It is honestly just disrespectful towards our time and money as students.
Please avoid taking him at all costs. I wasted my tuition money by being taught by a professor who expects you to memorize a textbook and not by the lecture content. He rambles on about the content which is useless at the end of the day. Get ready for your gpa to drop and for you to learn nothing.
DO NOT TAKE DAVID DAY, recent reviews are right. He's lazy, unreliable, expects you to memorize the textbook. You don't have every chapter of the textbook memorized? Have fun with a 60 on the exam. His class felt like a total waste of my tuition and time. I was a straight A student who got their first B in two years because he cannot teach right.
I love David Day as a prof! He is clear in his lectures, his assignments are straightforward, and his exams are FAIR! It is NOT unusually difficult to do well on his exams!!! Review the lectures, review the textbook, and you'll be okay. I'm not a super disciplined student and I have always done well in his class. He is also just adorable lol
There's a lot of harsh reviews on professor day but honestly I'd disregard them specifically if taking his advanced social psychology seminar. I feared the idea of a seminar all throughout school and the structure of his class made it super easy. He's very blunt, at times comes of rude, but I think he's a genuine guy who knows what he's teaching
Although I can see how Dr. Day wouldn't be great in a large class, he is excellent for seminars. The structure of the class really made me feel like I was learning something as we were heavily encouraged to participate. Attendance is mandatory, as it would be with any seminar. The big class project was super fun and not stressful at all.
Dr. Day is not nearly as terrible as most of these reviews make him out to be. It is true that he tends to go on tangents and gets side-tracked a lot, but his tests are NOT hard. Just read the textbook and you'll do perfectly fine.
Dr. Day's an engaging lecturer! Test questions are mostly from the textbook. There are also a few questions exclusively from lectures. I found the assignments harder to do well in (got A+s on the tests but assignments were marked stringently by the TAs). Try to schedule a one-on-one to ask what they're looking for (esp first assignment).
Nobody feels to engage in class as he's extremely passive aggressive, leading me to not even try going to his office hours. Confused all semester, unclear feedback on assignments, brief lectures and heavy textbook.
Dr. Day made every lecture SO FUN, and engaging! His exams were straightforward, and in the last lecture before each exam, he goes over all the possible short-answer questions, making it easy to get a good score. He is extremely helpful during office hours and helped me improve on the tests.
Run ... or learn the hard way. Guy is just straight up not a good professor or caring human being, don't be fooled by the goofy persona. He's out to get you, driven by pure ego. Run.
