Great professor...very hard...sometimes too hard...but awesome lecturer and great person!!
He's perfect. Unlike most of the professors in the Business College, he really teaches. He's passionate about teaching, and he cares about the students.

Dr. Deboskey was a great professor. He really wants everyone to pass. This class is EXTREMELY difficult but by no mean impossible. It was the first opper division acctg class I got better than a C in and I think it had a lot to do with his teaching style.
Dr. D is one of the best professors at SDSU! He's intense, passionate, & very knowledgeable. His teaching style worked really well for me. (I got an A.) We did use the books, but Dr. D's lectures were much better. He talks extremely fast - I paid attention & actually learned some things. It's easy to pay attention anyway because Dr. D's hot!

Awesome, prof! You can see he cares. Hard, but fair tests on material covered in his lectures . . . asks questions that make you think hard and you'll take the full time, but nothing like "where is this coming from." His 200+ will cover all the material he tests on, so if you work hard, no problems. Nice guy to become friends with too.
Idk what the person below me is smokin. No one def wanted to be friends with this guy. Very tough teacher, lacks personable skills, and goes super fast in lectures. He puts a lot of effort in lectures (which is a good thing) and expects you to do the same (bad thing). You thought it was going to be easier after 322, BEWARE. Get into a good group.
This is the hardest accounting class I have taken. He talks extremely fast and expects you to know all of the previous accounting concepts thoroughly. He is extremely smart and knows his stuff but is not great at breaking it down to teach it at a more basic level. IPP= impossible! You have no other choices so hold on it's a really bumpy ride!
Sure he's a smart guy, but he does a pretty bad job at teaching the material.Goes way too fast and does not thoroughly explain concepts.As a tip, get into a good group.
Best accounting professor at SDSU. If you cannot make it through this class, maybe accounting is not your thing. He puts a lot of effort into making his class understandable and is always prepping students for the CPA exam. Will explain concepts in many ways to help you understand. Expects as much effort from students. Hang in there - it's worth it
Sure, this class is hard. Sure, he goes fast. But he does his best in getting you interested in the subject, and what more can you ask for? In the long run, the hard work that you do is worth it. If you give up in this class, then accounting isn't for you. If you didn't know, as a public accountant, you will be working 10-12 hr days.
ARROGANT! he is extremely unclear in his assignments midterms and case studies. most the class is group work, thank god. he canceled 1st meeting, 2nd class was guest lecturer, then he ditches the class for the whole semester. he responds to class emails by saying "you're grad students, figure it out" UNCLEAR, UNORGANIZED, AMBIGUOUS ....AVOID!
Though everyone may hate Deboskey here is the key problem, he missed the class for 9 weeks in the Fall of '10 and everyone is upset about that including myself, however, the lectures he did teach were the BEST things i have ever learned about Accounting HE KNOWS HIS stuff!! but again he wasnt there...
Take this professor if you enjoy ambiguous assignment instructions, poor grading, and ridiculous expectations on behalf of the professor. This guy acts like he is the best thing since sliced bread, but he is hands down the most incompetent professor I've ever had. He expects the students to know assignments before it's even been taught.
Debo is awesome!! I only got a C+ in his class, but I learned more in his class than any other while at SDSU. He cares and is extremely intelligent too! You're lucky if you get him as your professor. Students that complain are lazy and don't like to work!
Worst accting teacher at state. Better just to skip class and go read the book.
Worthless teacher. He literally tries to make things as confusing as possible instead of helping you learn the material. Better off not going to class and teaching the material to yourself. Thats what I did and I got a B.
Prof Deboskey is very intelligent but I found his teaching style to be stilted and unfriendly. My recommendation is to really understand the chapters and don't rely too heavily on his lecture notes. Do questions from the CPA exam for each section to prepare for mult choice on exams which are horrendously hard if you haven't done the CPA questions.
I swear this guy practices his lectures in the mirror... totally full of himself and can't be bothered by silly student needs. You teach undergrad courses at SDSU Dr. D - not doctorate courses at McCombs School of Business. High level lectures that don't follow the book are reminiscent of continuing education for CPAs,not Intermediate Acct. Good Lu
Not an easy prof. But one of the most helpful and caring. He's right up there with prof. Snyder in terms of caring about student and being an all around good teacher
DO THE IPP (end of semester project) BEFORE THE FINAL!! If you time manage this you will be fine. The exams are difficult, but if you truly know the material you will do fine, don't try to memorize stuff, understand it. DEBO may seem extremely intimidating in the beg of the semester but is a caring professor.
Great professor. Very fast paced class, you must attend every single lecture or it will be hard to pass this class. Read before class or you will be totally lost in lecture. Rarely uses powerpoint, he uses more of a study guide to lecture which is very helpful for tests. Overall a really hard class but great professor. Big curve too after final.
This teacher is a fool. He teaches his own material which is not comprehensive enough to be of any use but it's what he tests on. The book is completely different and he assigns HW from it so you're stuck learning both. If you show any sign that you realize he's a fool, he starts in on his intimidation tactics. C'mon SDSU!!!
Dr. DeBoskey is a nice guy for the most part... and that's about it. Otherwise, his lectures are fragmented and rarely relate from one class to the next. Relies on handouts to do the teaching for him... so the information is never clear or organized. Take home midterm, group presentation, and final. Final was heavily curved. Not recommended.
Impossible! Uses intimidation to try to get respect. He shouldn't be teaching a 300 level class. Lectures are cryptic and pretty much worthless. Yells his lectures. Makes smart ass comments and asking abstract accounting questions. Can we just learn the material? odd assignments. And his ga is as much as a drone as he wants the students to to be.
UCSD MBA accounting class. Terrible, completely disorganized, self-centered, did not care about students' needs, tried to pass off slides from the internet as his own. It was laughable that he would ramble about how great a teacher he was, how many awards he had won, when nobody in class had any clue what was going on!!!
Best teacher I've ever had! He has high expectations & challenges his students. His course reader is VERY helpful in understanding the material. Read chapters before class. Do practice CPA ?s to prep for EXs. Hes extremely hard, but cares about his students. He actually prepares you for the real world, more teachers should be like Debo!
Nice Guy but lectures don't makes sense. Would have preferred doing material as presented in the book. Test were based on his method of doing problems which is confusing. I hated class because lectures were hard to follow and then he would walk around and check your work based on his confusing methods of problem solving.
Wow, what class are people taking? Professor DeBoskey is one of the best and most caring professors I have ever had!! He knows his subject and forces you to work hard! I guess that's why the previous student was so disgruntled? This student is a poor excuse for a graduate student...if you have to spend so much time bashing professors..get a life!

This class was fun! It was challenging, but I learned a lot from Dr. D. He really helps and cares for his students. Keep up with the readings and you should do fine in the class. It's so nice to pass this accounting class in the country :) I got a B+
I also got a B+ but his class is horrible. Lectures are so confusing you leave feeling like the dumbest person on earth.Reading the books and memeorizing everything is what saved me. His course readers sucked but you have to buy it! So glad this class is over
Prof Debo strongly urges his students to come to class. Do you use the course reader and read every assigned textbook chapter. 3 exams = 90% grade. This format is great for students who study efficiently because there are no quizzes to stay current for. I began all readings and studying 2-3 days before each exam. I received an A in the course.
Class derives its difficulty through intimidation. CPAPP, PAP points, Nametags, etc... all just to scare you. Debo is a great guy who's highly approachable if you're not there to ask stupid questions. You'll feel lost in lectures but will be able to put the pieces together for exam time with reader. Reader>Excel Wkshts>Gleim>Textbook> Homework Prob
Debo is really a great guy. I heard many horror stories prior to the class but many turned out to be false. I would recommend not studying from his "reader" and only the book as questions are pulled from test banks.
Don't get a curse by others. His class is easy. Think cleverly. You'll get A.
this guy is a great professor. he knows his stuff inside and out, and he does everything he can to help you remember it. you'll walk away having learned a lot, but there is a ton of work involved. it isn't an easy class by any means. the textbook chapters are also incredibly long, and the tests are difficult.
Class is very hard. Read text book to do connect homework but spend most of your time studying the course reader. Tests are off the course reader NOT the text book. Come to class every day, don't be late, ask intelligent questions and study hard. Don't be afraid to ask him for help.
Great accounting professor! Has more a structural leadership style, but it is all with purpose to make you learn. Lazy students most likely won't pass, be ready to work hard! Great foundation if looking to take the CPA exam...

He's not a very good professor at all. I am so glad this class is over because I would never want to go through that again. The exams were so hard.. and based off of his weird was of teaching and his workbook. I had to teach myself everything. I understand this is college, but come on! It was ridiculous. Take anyone else!
He is a very good professor. However with that said, I would not want to take him again. His tests are not too difficult, but his classes are somewhat confusing because he uses a different method from the book.
There are weekly homework assignments that don't help you learn and more random assignments on top. His lectures are confusing, his tests are even harder. I feel like I understand everything and then BAM I get a bad grade on the exams. All my classmates who did well went to A+ reviews. Not a class to slack in.
He is a terrible professor. His tests are hard and tricky. The homework is easy but doesn't help you. The only way to pass his class is to go to Aplus.

DeBoskey is a good guy and a good professor but the homework assigned was not very beneficial for testing purposes. He's very knowledgeable but the vagueness of his exams can be a bit troublesome. If his class was more focused on exam prep and relevant homework it would be a lot better.
3 exams, biweekly HW due online. Attendance mandatory for points but you can make up w/ E.C. points (GIVES A LOT, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM) Hw is hard but you get unlimited tries. Lectures are exactly what you'd expect from the course manual. Very helpful prof &cares for his students, as do his TAs! It's a hard class, don't just complain, get help!
Dr. D is a genuinely great guy. He really does care about his students and he wants them to learn the principles of financial accounting. For a 201 class, this was very hard. If you want to succeed in this class you must work for your grade. The lab sections are boring, just make sure to pay attention and you'll do fine.
Homework is not related to the exams whatsoever so that's super fun. He could have made the homework and exams more related and more people would have passed the class. He curves the class so that as many as possible can pass. Take advantage of all the extra credit he offers b/c it can and will help you tremendously.

He was okay at teaching, but it seems like I mostly learned from the textbook. He seems a little intimidating. Make sure you study early for tests. He posts old exams to help you practice and sometimes, the exam questions come from old exams. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ALL EXTRA CREDIT, YOU WILL NEED IT. Tests are pretty hard if you don't know your stuff.
Well, if this coming semester is like the last, you will not have a choice of professor for this class and you will have to take Debo. With that said, here is what to expect. Homework due weekly and "accounting cycle" projects which are very hard. His teaching does not line up with the book/homework, and his test questions can be very vague.
Very tough class, go to office hours. That helped me sooo much. I never used A+ review and I passed. As long you care about your grade and really FOCUS in this class you will pass. Study at least a week ahead with the back exams and missed questions. GO TO OFFICE HOURS like your life depends on it. Brandon Gross is a great GTA, very friendly.
His homework and accounting cycle projects never really related to his lectures. He gives extra credit and you best believe you should take advantage of it. As long as you do the work and study hard, you can pass the class.
This professor is very smart and quite helpful. That being said he is one of the most trickiest professors who asks very, very specific questions on the tests and then tricks students into picking the wrong answer. He likes to reinforce material that might not be on the tests.
I HATED THIS GUY, not helpful, my GTA sucked, I studied every single day for this class and barely passed. This was my FIRST accounting class and my tutor even said this stuff was hard. He won't tell you your grade throughout the semester which is not helpful whatsoever. His exams are ridiculously hard. He's a cool guy tho.
Dr. D is a fantastic professor. Yes, accounting is a hard subject, but Dr. D is always there to help. Take advantage of extra credit. Tests are tough for most people since they can be tricky. Must know concepts inside and out. Exams are worth a lot of your grade, but with extra credit and a curve, it's not as hard as people make it out to be.
Mediocre class. Asks a lot of trick questions on exams that don't necessarily test how well you know the material. Class wasn't too bad overall but took up a bit of time due to homework and projects. Make sure to take advantage of extra credit opportunities. He supposedly curves but the curve apparently did nothing for my grade.
Seriously one of the hardest classes I've ever taken at State. I am not good with numbers and I clearly sucked at this class. The secret to why I passed is probably the EXTRA CREDIT and showing up to class and group studying! If you lack in any of those criteria you will fail! Read, do the extra credit, and go to class! it is doable !
Fast paced class, but nonetheless challenging and fun. He is very knowledgeable in accounting and really sets his students up for success. HW can be tough but do-able if you read/look at examples beforehand. Would definitely recommend studying with groups bcose it helps. Definitely ask questions. Tests are tough but straight forward!
Terrible lecturer! There's a large lecture and a small lecture, and my TA for small section was SO much better at explaining things than he is. His lectures make you feel dumb, as he lectures as if you've already taken an accounting class. His tests are majorly trick questions. Would not recommend. He offers lots of extra credit.
Coming into the class, I heard that everyone absolutely dreads 201. Going into it for myself with an open mind, I found it enjoyable. Deboskey is definitely a hit or miss class for some. If you put in the work for the class, however, there's no reason why you shouldn't pass, especially when there's extra credit available.
I did not find his large lectures helpful at all and found myself mostly just reading the textbook to understand things. Studied really hard and found the test to be extremely difficult and mostly trick questions. Definitely passable but very hard to get an A.
I loved this professor! He is so knowledgable on the subject and you can tell he is passionate about teaching us. Class is pretty easy but if you do have trouble he does offer a lot of extra credit. Don't rely on lectures for everything because sometimes we ran out of time in class so read the book. Keep up and you'll do fine
I loved taking Dr.D's class!!! It isn't an easy class to begin with, but I can assure you Debo will do whatever he can to help you pass. The key is don't be afraid of the textbook. IT IS YOUR FRIEND! If you go to all lectures , do all the hw, projects, and learn smarts, you will be golden Ponyboy. His exams are basic concepts, so don't stress :)
Debowsky is chill. 201 is hard but very passable. He tries to make the class as interesting as he can, but he really is a hit or miss. Do all the homework and show up for the quizzes. He offers extra credit and curves.
Biggest tips I can give for Dr. D's class: read the textbook before class and to rewatch the lectures he records within a day of class! Actually DO your homework, don't just ask for a hint and let it tell you how to solve it so you actually understand what you're doing the whole way through the semester. He cares a lot about students' success!
Beware, hard class! This class took a lot of dedication to pass. Do the homework, and pay attention in lecture. Deboskey goes REALLY fast during lecture, so you have to keep up. Course uses a lecture and small section, the section teachers help to cover any questions. Weekly quizzes and attendance are done by Coursekey. Read book and do extra cred.
Deboskey is the best. He really tries to make the class fun and interesting for you, even if Accounting is boring. There were times were it was definitely hard to pay attention. The tests are pretty hard, but if you study enough you will be fine. The part I didnt like about the class was the small sections. I really thought it was a waste of time.
Typical large lecture class. Makes you buy Coursekey (app for attendance) & workbook for notes. TA's just as useless as him to teach. They all know the content, but are terrible at teaching it. If you want to pass, go to +A Review, they are so good at teaching and those are really worth the time and money. I learned more in 3 days than all semester
He's passionate about his job, something you don't see much anymore. ACCTG is not easy and you'll have to work for it, but he makes it clear what is to be expected on the tests. DO the back exams & Learnsmarts and you will pass.
This is the professor you want to take, he id dedicated to his work. Definitely cares about your success instead of just getting payed to teach. I found accounting hard because of the subject itself but he is a great professor. Gives tons of extra credit to boos your grade. Goes off topic to get you back on topic (if that makes sense).
Deboskey might be passionate about teaching accounting but his tests are absolutely ridiculous for an intro to accounting class. Throws in upper division accounting and the most difficult questions on exams. He tries to trick you with every single question. The average for the second midterm was a 60%, 1 percent away from failing. Ridiculous!!!

Deboskey knows what he is talking about but is not able to explain it in a way that is conducive to his tests (which are extremely hard). Do the EC and study hard for the tests!! Attendance is checked every session. Would highly recommend reading the chapter before the corresponding large lecture is presented; it makes things a lot easier to understand. Do the LearnSmarts and homework; extra credit and solid points plus more explanations to how to do things, respectively. Ask for clarification whenever you need it.
He and the TAs all are bad teachers. Go to every A+ review, they're worth your time and money; the only reason I passed. Do all of the extra credit you can. Study for the tests, there are 3 and they are cumulative and get progressively harder. Do the cycle projects with friends; if you don't do well there's a show answers button so you can get 100%
Great Proffesor who is really enthusiastic about accounting. Tests are kind of hard but the back exams really help. Going to class and filling out the lecture slides helps a ton. Many opportunities for extra credit which makes it pretty hard to not pass. Go to class, do all the assignments and take adavantage of extra credit and you will do fine.
Make sure you do ALL the extra credit and don't miss a single point on HW or the accounting cycle project. Ask questions in small section and study a lot for exams. Make sure you study the back exams and the top 20/25 missed questions.
This was probably the hardest class I've ever taken at SDSU. I can't believe this is the entry level acctg class. The tests are pretty impossible and everyone else thought the same, do all the extra credit and homework!!! That's the only way I passed the class. Deboskey loves the subject he teaches but talks very fast and assumes we all know it.
By far one of the hardest classes I've taken. He is a caring and passionate professor but his tests are extremely difficult. You have to make this class a top priority if you want to pass. Do all of the extra credit and study as much as you can. Read the book and review EVERYTHING. His tests are cumulative and he loves putting in trick questions.
Everyone makes this class seem so much harder than it is. If you study hard, truely do the homework, and take advantage of all the extra credit, you will do well. My biggest complaints are that he makes you buy Coursekey and it doesn't work half of the time and the small section is usually pretty pointless.
Prof Debosky has a lot of expectation for students taking his intro to acctg class. He's certainly good in the acctg world but that doesn't mean he can teach! This class has a lot of requirements and it takes up a lot of time. If you are not an acctg major, take this class at a community college! PREVIEW before class, do hw, and review after class!
Asks questions on tests in tricky ways. Most of your grade is from 3 tests. Rambles during lectures and does not teach applicable things. Should not be teaching lower division accounting because he goes way in depth on it. You're set up for failure going into this class.
He actually cares about students and gives you more than enough resources and tools to pass. This class is all about the effort you put into it!
What makes this class hard is that all tests are mult choice, which means that every concept is expected to be known, with tricky questioning that requires lots of studying. He does offer a lot of extra credit options, although they're not worth a whole lot they can help if you do them all. Read the textbook over and over even though it's horrible.
He gives you everything you need, he and your TA will review multiple times in class. It could depend on which TA you get, Bernarderet is very helpful. If you fail this class then it's completely your fault, you HAVE to study for the tests, you HAVE to pay attention to review days. Focus your time towards the course reader, and your notes, not book
Dr. D really cares for his students. He will always help and tries to break down the material as much as he can. Tests are not the only thing included in your grade in this class. You WILL NOT do well in this class however if you do not complete the homework. There are extra credit opps. and if you do put the effort into it, youre sure to pass.
Deboskey truly cares about his students and is always willing to help you if you stay after class or go to office hours. The only way you can not pass is by not trying which is your own fault. You NEED to study for this class. Do all homework and extra credit, read the book if youre confused on a concept. UNDERSTAND the concepts dont memorize!!
Dr. D cares about his students and he wants you to do well. The tests are hard but reading the textbook is helpful. There are extra credit opportunities to help boost your grade so take advantage of those. A plus helps A LOT. i didnt go for the first test (got an 80), but went for the 2nd (got a 94). DO THE BACK EXAMS AND MEMORIZE THE TOP 20/25
It's a tough class because you really need to study and make sure you understand all the concepts. It's a lot of work but the class is doable.
Dr D is a nice and caring professor. This class is definitely doable and there are extra credit opportunities to help you. Do the Top 25 questions and back exam!! These helped me a ton!! do the top 25 multiple times to make sure you know it! accounting cycle projects are a pain but do it together with friends and you'll be fine.
DeBoskey makes me think about an accounting minor, what a great professor, he really loves what he teaches and will give you a lot of examples to make sure you understand. This is not an easy class, but you will learn so much if you follow his suggested plan.

Deboskey knows Financial Accounting well enough to be respected, but he doesn't do much teaching and instead skims through the entire chapter. It is covered too fast which can be a problem for some students, regardless if you've read the chapters. Take advantage of extra credit opportunities he gives and know the material covered in Back Exams.
Deboskey was alright. He offers a lot of extra credit as buffer so be sure to take advantage of those. Be sure to review the BACK EXAM AND TOP 25 MISSED questions. The top 25 will reappear on exams 2 and 3 but reworded.
Dr. D isn't the best teacher, but there are not any other options for 201. His lecture notes are fill in the blank, which is pointless. Take the time to reread your notes, read the text book a little, do your homework and you should be fine to get an A or B.
Had him for a Winter course. He is pretty clear on what he expects from students but the exam questions he provides are too much for an entry level class. The average grade for each exam was in the 60 percent range; because of this there was a GENEROUS curve. You do cycle projects and HW which is barely relevant to the tests.
I think accounting is just a boring subject, so I have to give him credit for trying his best to keep it kinda interesting. There's a good amount of extra credit. The exams are on Saturdays which is terrible but there's no way around that. You have to buy a course reader which has fill in the blank notes, which I appreciate.
Dr. D was my favorite professor so far at SDSU! Although accounting is not an easy subject, Dr. D really works with students to make the material easy to understand. He provides study resources and extra credit on his BB site and will respond to any questions you have about the material. You still have to work hard for a good grade but its doable.
This class would be hard for a graduate course. Accounting is a difficult subject and DeBo does his best on making it even harder. The tests are very difficult and the homework and projects don't reflect them at all.
I am an A student and I got a C+ in his class (I've never gotten a C+ before in my life). DO NOT TAKE HIM. Take ACCT in community college! Way easier! He's nice in person but not nice on tests. Tests basically make up your grade(beyond hard&irrelevant to HW). Do HW&EC, those points r what's gonna save you. Do backexams & Top25, kinda help.
This class seems hard but get 100% on homework and do all extra credit (not hard) you'll be sure to pass. His tests are basic, you'll probably go into them thinking they are harder than you'd expected. STUDY the concepts on the back exams and top 20/25! These granted will get you at least a C on the exams. EXTRA CREDIT will make you pass DO IT.
DeBoskey is knowledgeable about financial accounting. He is a caring professor that wants his students to learn! His course reader is well organized and helpful for exams. The key to passing this class is reading the ebook and practicing the problems on the top 20 & 25. This is the first class I have taken that will help me in the business field.
Underrated professor. Debosky puts a lot of effort into teaching this class and expects a lot of work in return. Tons of homework and tons of attendance. Extra credit boosts your grade A LOT and there is also a slight curve at the end. Overall, you should study consistently throughout the semester in order to retain concepts for a cumulative final.
Absolutely phenomenal teacher. He truly cares about your success and wants you to learn the material. He is also extremely experienced in the business world and shares his knowledge if you ask. The class is hard but its because of the material. Just review the class, do the extra credit, reviewing the learn smarts really helps you understand it.
Learnsmarts & lots of homework. He really knows a lot about accounting and knows how to teach the class. However, communicating with him is a pain and he isn't clear with his grading criteria. He gives a lot of resources to help you succeed. The class isn't as hard as everyone says as long as you put in a lot of study time. Lots of extra credit
So this is an introductory course and I felt like he was expecting way too much from students that had to take this course for other majors that are not accounting. The homework is pretty irrelevant to the exams; they focus more on the vocabularies and the definitions than calculating the T accounts
Prof D is an amazing professor and an overall great human being that genuinely cared for your learning/success as a student. I enjoyed this class while I was there but it is crazy hard.. or maybe I'm just not made for accounting lol either way prepare yourself not an impossible class but is pretty freaking hard. Does offer lots of extra credit!
This was the only class I've ever failed and I had to retake it. Literally the hardest, most stressful class I've ever taken. The homework is extremely time-consuming and irrelevant to the exams. He talks way too fast. I went to every class I still had a hard time keeping up with him. Take at a community college!!!!
Tests are difficult, not like the mandatory homework, more like the smartbooks. He's not a bad teacher, accounting is just tough to pick up. He takes attendance through course key in both his class and the TA sections, attendance matters for points and material, as the homework is very different from the exams. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT.
Although Debo is a legend here on campus, he is a terrible lecturer. It's mainly that Accounting is naturally difficult, but adding his poor teaching style doesn't help at all. I think he's the only teacher for large lecture so you may be out of luck but if you cram the last few days before the exam and maybe even go to A Plus you'll be fine.
Accounting is naturally hard but he gives you back exams and top 25 missed questions from the last test that really help. The tests are hard but there not impossible if you study. He gives tons of extra credit and all the homeworks and accounting cycles can be done until u get 100%. Its not as bad as everyone says it is.
Horrible professor that doesn't care about his students whatsoever. He gets happy when his current class has test scores that average out with previous semester, which by the way is a 66% average! Instead of altering his course and tests to produce higher scores and stress students out less, he is happy with his students averaging D's on his tests.
Deboskey doesnt want to be a teacher. You learn a lot more from your TA than in his large lecture class because he gets distracted about his glory days on Wall Street. He makes it clear that not everyone will succeed, and how some people arent cut out to be accountants. I dont recommend taking him if you want to learn accounting.
Honestly the class is pretty difficult but some of the reviews are a little harsh. He gives you good notes and provides top 25 questions for each test so that you have at least 17 repeat questions from the last exam on the one you are about to take. He also gives "back" exams (practice exams). Do those, put in the effort to learn and you'll be fine
Deboskeys class is hard, but almost everything on the exams is right out of the homeworks so as long as you study and understand how to do all the homework problems (without just memorizing the problems) the exams aren't too bad. Would take again.
Accounting is just hard in general. Debo is not a bad Proffesor by any means and he really does want you to succeed. Reading the textbook does help but isn't mandatory. With extra credit and a curve at the end of the year, you have a pretty solid chance at passing assuming you maximize points. You do gotta put in the work. Class isnt a cake walk
Awful. Lectures are boring and hell tell you to study for things that arent even on the exam. The hw doesnt prepare you for anything. He tells the TAs one thing and his students the exact opposite. This class was made entirely too difficult by his disorganized, dull teaching. Congratulated the class for a D average on the exam, didnt curve it.
He was a great professor up until we switched online b/c COVID. Lectures were great, first week I felt so lost, but his acronyms, many resources, and availability makes him a great professor. He really wants you to be successful, but not if you aren't trying. Accounting is hard and if you don't put work in you won't like the class.
Genuinely one of the hardest classes I've had to take here at SDSU, take Younan as your small lecture professor as he was actually helpful to pass. There's a lot of work and Deboskey doesn't care too much about his students. I got an A in this class but it's a lot of studying and hard work.
Deboskey is the right guy if you really want to learn the material and are not looking for the easy way out. He is truly passionate and if you do the homework and read the chapters you will do fine on the tests and be more prepared for a business career. His test averages are low 70s/high 60s but read and it'll be ok.
David Deboskey is at best mediocre. He cares about his students and is obviously very knowledgable about accounting, but he can't teach for his life. Please take John Younan for small lecture. He actually can lecture and prep you for the exams. Deboskey prides his 500 students on a 65% average on test. He also hates Trump with a burning passion.
Dr. Debo is by far the worst Professor at SDSU. Take it at CC or anywhere else. He wants his students to succeed and hes very good at accounting but absolutely awful at teaching it. He has the dryest lecture ever and his class is copying notes the whole time without understanding it. Do all of the HW and EC. John Younan was great. Fire Debo
The course is hard by nature, but I'm not sure why he's satisfied with 65% test averages year on year. I'd think that would be a sign that the course needs improving. I guess he's become complacent because the class produces a 75% final grade average. Younan is the man, really went above and beyond to help us, even through the pandemic. Great TA.
Deboskey's gives his students all of the materials to pass. Read the textbook, do all of the hw and extra credit, study, and go to class! He WANTS his students to pass. He provides GREAT TAs, especially Younan! They both reply to emails quickly and detailed. This class is extremely doable. Even if you do poorly on exams, you can pass! Office hours!
Deboskey was clearly passionate about accounting but he didn't have great methods of teaching. The extra credit is the only thing that saved me from potentially failing because the tests were so difficult and were not even on the chapters he told us they'd be on.
I was hesitant to take his course after seeing his reviews, but it made me make this class a priority. You need to be engaged in everything he says or you'll quickly fall behind. Take the time to really understand the material from the first few weeks and it'll carry you the rest of the way. Bonus points if you're already interested in finance.
This class was seriously really hard. A ton of people regularly fail this class so this is no joke. Took him the Fall of 2017. Read, practice the modules. Go and get help in office hours. Do not think that you can skate by in this class because you cannot. At all. Exams are hard.
The professor does not let you know what you got wrong on tests. This becomes a large issue when he makes errors in the test problems. He will take the points from you but not allow any oversight of his questions. This is a difficult class, and he makes it harder.

Deobsky is one of the most intelligent and credible accounting teachers and professionals I have ever met. His success in corporate America shows that. But, his teaching ability and classroom difficulty makes it unfair for students. He grades harder than anyone I've ever had. Makes the tests extremely hard. If you get a C in this class be proud.
Deboskey is very smart and loves accounting, but taking this class online was one of the most difficult classes I have ever taken. The tests are extremely hard and each question is worth a lot of points. I feel it is unfair to the students as he made it very difficult to do well. I do not recommend this class with this professor.

(COVID-19) course. I would discredit his teaching, but he barely taught. We didn't have a class, it was an asynchronous course. The only class you got was years old lectures. Exams are on response with the camera watching. His unofficial classes were on Sundays at 6. The avg. grade was 73, and average test scores for every exam were in the 60s...
If you're looking for a professor who reads off the slides and doesn't teach you anything, step right up. Prof. Deboskey isn't knowledgeable in accounting and expects you to memorize everything and apply it to the tests. He also throws in questions that have nothing to do with what you've learned, very cocky and bad at responding!!
Literally the worst professor Ive ever had. His lectures rarely cover whats on the test. It seems like he wants people to fail and doesnt want to help students. If I couldve had a different accounting professor I wouldve. So awful

The only reason why i did well is cuz after noticing the first test was super hard and not really the material we went over, I expected ever test to be the same level of difficulty. It sucks because he must think we have nothing going on outside of class. He does not care about his students. do not take this course with him.
ive never been so confused in a class. I've always been A/B student and I tried my best to understand new material quickly but I've been so lost in the content. I also don't understand why he assigns the tests outside of assigned class hours. I chose this class because it fits my schedule but he schedules things outside! i hate it here
Do not recommend. A friend had technical difficulties in the middle of his exam and deboskey threatened to give him a zero if he didnt figure it out. Exams are extremely hard too. A lot of homework that can be doable but not enough support in the class from my teacher AND section valdivia. Its more like you figure it out on your own or else.
He is hands down the worst professor I have ever had. Literally does not care about his students at all. He does not care at all about what is going on in your life that interferes with his class. I really really suggest you do not take his class, take it at a community college, it will save you a lot of money and pressure.
Please take it at a community college. I want to say that passing this class is possible. However, it will not be a pleasant learning experience. The worst part of this class was just how wrong everything is. Homework and tests had MANY errors. However, you can't ever address test errors because he does not let you see them. Dr. D doesn't even know the answers on his own slides. He reads off his slides without explaining anything. The homework has nothing to do with the tests and I believe Dr.D would never be able to 100 on his OWN tests. Somehow this class makes accounting way harder than it has to be.
If Accounting were to be a city, Dr. DeBoskey would be the troll that lives under the bridge. Accounting itself isn't a terrible subject but DeBoskey does everything in his power to make the class miserable. Also, the "extra credit" that he offers is inputted as a normal assignment. So I didn't do it and got 0's that brought my grade down
I have no idea how I ended with an A in this class. You will have to put in work from day one. Do EVERY extra credit assignment you can, and look for quizlets to study for the tests. The homework really doesn't relate to the tests at all bc they're mostly theory. Not the worst class I have taken but definitely challenging. Heavy curve at the end!!
PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLASS. I enjoy accounting, a lot, but Deboskey made it so hard to learn. He doesn't give a crap about his students, he is very rude and does not offer much feedback. Save yourself this trouble, and take this class at a community college.
Lots of homework and lots of studying, but hes a great professor who is passionate about Acctg. Be prepared to read and study, if not you wont pass. He really wants all his students to succeed! Couldnt complain, its a tough subject.
Deboskey seems to hate his life and want to make his students' lives as miserable as his. Get ready for 8am exams on Saturdays, even better when they're on Halloween.
My best advice is to go to his class to sign in for credit and then leave. You can pass the class easily if you use coursestar and chegg on the homework. You NEED to g to A+ review before every test and make a good cheat sheet as well. Going to lecture will do nothing but confuse you and waste your time. I had to self teach everything.
Clearly cares about accounting, but he's not very good at teaching. TA's were more helpful. The average score on his tests are either C's or D's. This class will take up a LOT of your time because you have to self teach a lot of the material. If you do well on the homework & extra credit & try your very best on tests you can pass.
The material is not tough. It's literally quite possible for every student to pull an A. The problem is that D does everything in his power to make your life difficult. Be prepared for vague HW Q's. Be prepared to teach yourself everything. Be prepared for weird deadlines that'll make you miss assignments. 11:59AM deadline for some HW, not 11:59PM.
This is the most disorganized, inconsiderate, boring class I have ever taken. Syllabus and canvas are overloaded with information and it is so overwhelming to even look for an assignment. There is ALWAYS something due at least every other day. Professor only reads content off slides and doesn't explain anything. Don't take this class at SDSU
Debo sucks, his exams are Saturday mornings in person as early as 8 AM. He is the worst teacher I've ever had, he's not like-able, doesn't teach clearly, and is super condescending. He's kinda unavoidable because he's the only teacher for this class so the school really doesnt gaf.
debosky told me he has a 14% fail rate and is very proud of it. that means he is proud that approximately 112 out of 800 of his students might fail his class this semester. instead of being a caring and enthusiastic professor, he does the bare minimum of reading exactly what is on the slides and doesn't explain anything in a way we'd understand.
Deboskey receives a lot of hate but he's honestly not terrible. He odes care and he provides students every opportunity to pass the class. You get a cheat sheet on the test and he is mandatory for acct. The TA I had was terrible and that didn't help with my grade.
Listen to these reviews. I wish I did. Average on each exam is about a 65% and a lot of people fail this class for a reason. I would recommend taking this class at a CC. HW and lectures have nothing to do with exams, which are very hard. He is happy about classes getting 60% averages on exams and brags about his achievements to the class when he doesn't teach material and reads off the slides when he does. My TA was helpful but I strongly suggest getting a tutor since you have to take the class with him.
Writing this after I just took my final exam, which I got a C on and the mean score was a low F. He is by far the worst professor Ive ever had. His exams have very little to do with what he teaches us in class and the wording on all his exams are designed to trip you up. Do not take this class at sdsu if you care about your gpa & mental health.
HW is heavy, almost every other day, and unrelated to the 3 exams that make up a large % of the grade. The class isn't an introduction to acctng, it goes in depth. We learned in the last module about bonds, that's meant to be studied in finance not accounting. Attendance is graded and lectures don't help. Lastly, exams are unnecessarily difficult.
Incredibly difficult tests that ARE NOT CURVED!!!! The class average for all 3 tests are F's and he is completely content with over a hundred students failing. He is the only professor for Accounting 201 so all I can say is good luck buddy....

For business majors its mandatory & very difficult. Get a small section instructor who is young but gives pop quizzes often. Tests are on Saturdays. Online work is simple. Tests are BAD w/ averages of 60-70%. TUTORING NEEDED. CHEGG IS UR BEST FRIEND for homework so BUY IT. A+ review is like $90 but is only way to get an A. DO EXTRA CREDIT. GL!
Its a hard class for sure, and a lot is learned on your own, but hes very passionate about the subject and can go a bit quick in lectures but is always willing to answer questions. Also he said no curve at the start of the semester and then at the end said hed add one. And somehow he curved my 67 to a C so I love him for that!!!
Debo is a great prof. Idk what all these reviews are talking about but he really knows his stuff. I definitely had to work for my grade and if you don't want to put work into the class, you will not do well. Tests are hard so be prepared to study, he also allows a one page cheat sheet with whatever and CHEGG is needed to help with online homework.

Deboskey is a terrible professor that not only didn't properly teach us material, but also didn't care about his students whatsoever. My car had gotten broken into and I was unable to attend class, and after emailing with the proof of my damaged car, he still wouldn't excuse my absence.
How to PASS: Do ALL the homework and EC. Shoot for a 95% on it all. USE CHEGG. For tests, Use the cheat sheet with info from the slides (go through all of them) Put all the info on there that's on the study guide. I started studying like 2 days before the test. I failed the first two tests and got a D+ on the final. I passed the class Its doable
Get help with the HW some of it is very dissimilar to the tests/quizzes/lecture. Prof offers 3-4% worth of extra credit plus a curve, I had an 89.4% that went up to an A-. About 6-9 hours of work a week. Test 1 is easy. Tests 2 and 3 are harder. median results for the tests were 78%, 68%, 68%. Overall average grade 74.1%

Tests will be on Saturdays and Sundays. Make sure to take MIS180 BEFORE taking this or you will have a very very tough time. Extremely long homework assignments and tests are in person multiple choice but hard. Only way to really pass is get 95% and above on every homework assignment and aim to get above 60% on each test. Lectures are exhausting
This class isn't nearly as terrible as it seems. Yes, the midterms on Saturdays at 7am is wack and attendance is mandatory for lectures. You learn most of your content from the small section class, the large lectures don't teach much. It's a very passable class, do all the homework and go to A plus and you'll do fine.
I had to read weekly chapters and take notes that would take me 3 hours or more, complete homework for 2 hours or more each week, attend lectures, make thorough cheat sheets, go to the A+ reviews, and use Coursestar. His lectures are confusing unless you are ahead on the reading, and his TA was AWFUL. Take at CC if you can.
Your best bet is honestly to do as bet as you can on the first exam and hope the second exam doesn't tank your grade that badly. Like the other ratings say, get 95% on all your assignments and pray that you win the stock game that he has at the beginning of the year for a 3% grade boost. Get a 95% or higher on all the homework. Do as well as you possibly can on the first exam as the next two will probably kill your grade. Do all the extra credit possible and pray that it's enough to pass. Exams questions are different from homework questions.
Try getting all the points on the homework, even if you have to redo them. Also take advantage of all the extra credit opportunities through homework and going to his study sessions. I don't think DeBoskey's the worst professor, I just think acctg is kind of confusing in general. Exam 1 is pretty easy, but 2 and 3 are more difficult.
Deboskey makes things harder than they need to be. He wants you to succeed but does not design the course in a way to do that. A majority of the homeworks are a waste of time, and the tests are scheduled at bizzare times - 7am on Saturdays. Absurd amount of hw, worst thing ab the class is the note taking system he sells w/ the course reader.
I took this class during the Winter 2023 semester and it's one of the most difficult classes I've ever taken at SDSU. But Dr. DeBoskey is an amazing instructor. He's a caring person and truly wants his students to learn and be successful. You'll have to read, complete homework, do PlayPosit assignments, and complete accounting projects. Good luck!

He is super passionate about his students and about accounting. It is a hard class but he is a good teacher and the small section professors really help. I went in to office hours every week and it was super helpful. The tests are a 7am on sundays
DeBoskey assigns way more work than he needs to. A lot of his work and lectures require participation. He's not very lenient with missing classes and doesn't seem to understand that students have responsibilities outside of his class. I was told to "make better choices" when I told him I couldn't attend class with proof of a doctors appointment.
Very passionate about this course but fails to understand how difficult it is for people who are not pursuing accounting. Has very strict deadlines, expects you to attend every lecture, and refuses to acknowledge this course is hard. At times it feels like he would rather catch cheaters than help those who are trying. Offers some extra credit.

Nothing he says makes sense, his reviews for the test include questions that he won't even test you on. here are ways to pass: - Show up to class: you get points for it - DO ALL OF THE HOMEWORK AND EXTRA CREDIT - shoot for a D on all tests.

Prof wasn't as bad as everyone says, but the class itself was pretty hard. I didn't need to use A+ review, but I did have to study a good amount. Luckily, he curves tests pretty nicely. Just make sure to do well on the homework, use as many attempts to get a good score as you can.

He's given at least five homework due on the same day. My first exam was pretty much just recording transactions, filling sums, finding missing amounts of money in word problems. I learned more from the Teacher's Assistant, a personal tutor, and three Accounting & Bookkeeping for Dummies. His "textbook" was just the lectures he posts in class. WOT.
He only lets students look at their graded tests ONCE. His "textbook" is just filling in the blank pdf slides from his lectures. His first exam was mostly recording transactions & finding missing amounts of money as word problems. He only agrees to come one day at the same hour for his weekly office hours.

Most of the people saying Deboskey's a bad teacher just can't differentiate a bad teacher and a hard course. He offers extra credit, curves exams, and teaches well. ACCTG 201 is just a boring subject so it's hard to pay attention regardless of who's teaching. Just know that, while it may be hard, Deboskey makes ACCTG 201 a do-able course.
The most frustrating professor I've taken in all my four years of college. He's so insistent on exams, that people have to come at 7:10 in the morning, and he has them download a software, Respondus LockDown Browser that blocks out other tabs. So arrogant he instructs you to buy a textbook he wrote, but it's just empty lecture slides from class.
How to pass. 1. Finish all homework & Accounting Cycles early. 2. Go to class, then watch the recording later to learn 4. Buy his textbook, Financial Accounting Fundamentals, fill it, and study all that. 5. Search his exams on Quizlet. 6. Ask help from TAs weekly. 7. Practice every problem from the McGraw Hill book. 8. Double check all your work.

Find someone else. He's never accessible outside of class. He doesn't include enough problems from his OWN lectures or from the homework into his tests. His exams are cumulative. He gives too many homework assignments on the same day. The rumors were true. Nothing but problems. One sheets are useless. You'd need two for a better shot.

Sunday tests at 7am, in person. Awfully long homework only doable with Chegg. Test averages of high 50's.
He doesn't make it easy. You do need to ask as many questions as you can, and you cannot skip class. To pass his tests, he does permit bringing a sheet with answers written. You should buy, fill, and study the fundamental accounting textbook he wrote for the class. Use mostly that book, and include topics you still don't understand from class.

Won't curve if he doesn't think we deserve it. Says he cares about your success, false. Average was 58% and he threw a fit in class about it. If you can, take it online.
If you don't come to class, you lose credit. Every exam had an average under 70%. Barely anyone would pass. Most of the material I was told to go over before each test was not included on tests. At least five separate homework assignments on the same Sunday of each week. When I tried to go to his office, most of the time he wasn't there.
For tests, fill his lecture book, then go through notes found online of the topics. Practice questions from the homework and review anything you miss. Study what you forget the most. What is mostly forgotten comes on exams. Form study groups, compare notes. Go to A+ Review. Finish ALL Extra Credit. All tests use Respondus Web Browser.
Professor isn't that bad but just doesn't give any slack for a hard class. Provides abundant materials but you have to take a LOT of time to understand it yourself. Lectures are hard to pay attention to and understand. Very slide heavy. Not an easy credit class. Sunday 7am tests with no curve, cheat sheet helps a little.
He is a very unfair person and his teacher assistant, Joseph carried. 7 AM Sunday Exams.. Overall exams were difficult with averages on the exams being exam 1; 69 exam 2; 59 exam 3; 69. However, I did not study at all for this class but rather created a cheat sheet, got all possible points for homework and extra credit and got an A-. It's doable.
Deboskey as a person is not bad rlly, he always sends emails w his idea of "words of encouragement" and u can tell he rlly wants u to succeed but dumps an almost ridiculous amt of material for an entry level class. Did fall irl- failed. Retook online winter n got an A. If u have to take him- don't for a reg sem as he curves hella for short sessions
Taking him rn for online winter session and Deboskey is so nice. Always tries to encourage us and listens to our feedback about too much workload. haven't experienced any of the negative stuff i've seen here but mayb it's bc im doing his class online. The pacing is rlly fast but he's lenient and curves so it's not bad at all. take him online !!!
Does not curve anything, so work extremely hard and smart to the exams as they are HARD!
His class is a joke, you work your butt off studying for nothing. Most questions on the test are just trying to trick you. Take at community college you will be so much better off.
He was very unorganized. He didn't have clear grading criteria. He just lectured. The TA handled the grading and there was not consistency between the TA and his criteria. We were all confused about the expectations.
Horrible, I missed an exam for a totally reasonable excuse and he still denied me a retake.
This was probably the most challenging course I'd taken at SDSU as a first-semester sophomore (taking in Fall 2023). Do all the extra credit, it helps fs. Honestly, get Chegg; it'll save your life. Very test-heavy, and the tests are at 7:30 am on Sundays IN PERSON. The curve at the end was from 3-7%. I went from a 73 to a 77 after the curve.
I was a straight-A student until I took this class. People claim there is a curve to this class but don't rely on it. I was on the border of a C to a B and my grade did not move at all. Anyways, if you can take this class at a community college please do so. This class is honestly a major headache.
I've never been more frustrated. He's less of a teacher, but more of a proctor. 5 assignments due by Sunday. He was more concerned with preventing cheating than actually testing us on the majority of the material we were taught. That's why he had us download LockDown browser. He had 4 aides teaching. Plenty of time to improve his methods. But no!
The curve doesn't give you a full letter grade bump. It's less than half that. Go from C- to C, or, 73% to 75%.
He gave too much homework per week. And, the time spent on each assignment was overwhelming. I found myself spending over 12 hours finishing HALF of a Accounting Cycle He relied too often on the TAs to hold office hours, and give us quizzes once per week. Each test REALLY threw me off, because the majority of what he said to study was NOT covered.

Makes you take exams at 7:30am on a saturday and doesn't show up but his TA's. Found his lectures boring. Make sure TO DO THE HOMEWORK and ACCTG Cycle!!!
I enjoyed Dr Deboskey's class. I would recommend reading the textbook before lectures. The textbook does a great job of explaining concepts,and Deboskey's and small section lectures are going to help you better understand everything. Exam 1 & Exam 3 are pretty easy, and Exam 2 is more difficult. Don't wait last minute for the homework or studying.
Only people that rate are either on the high-end of the class or the low-end. My honest rating as a procrastinator is this class is not as hard as people make it seem. I barely read the e-textbook, and rather studied his note slide book you purchase and take notes from his lectures in. Understand that material and you will pass with an A.
Unpopular opinion: I enjoyed this class. This course can be difficult but you just need to apply yourself. It will take time to adjust to the homework load in the beginning but you'll be fine. 7:30 am in-person Saturday exams were annoying though. You get a cheat sheet for exams. Attendance is graded. Just study!
I actually really liked this class. His lectures got boring at some times but its just the subject, not necessarily him. He actually explains very well and doesn't go too fast. Actually show up to classes and it makes understanding so much easier. The homework isnt so bad like everyone says and is actually helpful. Acctg cycles takes longer though
Dr. DeBoskey is by far one of the most uncompassionate professors on campus. He fails to grasp the difficulty of his course to first time learners and lacks sympathy for students as a whole. Be prepared to teach yourself. If you want to get an A in this class, make sure to periodically check on your grade via email and GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING!

Prof has the worst canvas site I've ever seen. Class is pointlessly difficult and mind-numbing. Even my TA didn't speak of him very fondly. Avoid this class if you can.
He is the worst professor I've ever had. He gave me a lot of homework, and the accounting cycles took FOREVER to finish. The tests are at 6 a.m. on a Sunday, and they're super heavily graded. Lectures are also so boring and dry. If you want to pass this class, prepare to study by yourself because you won't get anything out of his lecture.
This course is really hard!! It is super test-heavy. He does not cover a lot of the material in class. The tests are Sundays at 7am and have no make-ups. The homework is doable but the tests are so hard. Good luck.
Currently in this class and each test we've taken the average has been half of the possible points you can earn. If that doesn't tell you something then idk. This is a class where you have to learn on your own. Small section instructors are bad and speak in a monotone voice. Iv'e learned nothing in this class and it has disappointed me.

This class was genuinely so bad. The class average for every single tests was a 57% every year. His lectures were long and there is so much homework every week. Also, the TA I had was worse. Her "lectures" were 20 minutes with a quiz included and she I didn't learn anything from her. I tried going to office hours and she would giggle at my grade.

I made a huge mistake not taking this class at a juco. Exams are 50 questions long and the exams are also at 7am on Sunday mornings. He yaps during the lectures and his monotone voice will put you to sleep within 10 minutes. Please do not take this class!
The content u learn is not what is on the exam. The exam questions are very specific. I studied consistently for weeks prior to the exam and sought out help from a tutor and still barely scratched out mid C's on the exam. I feel like he wants people to struggle and miss questions from tiny details.
This class is very difficult, but Dr. Deboskey does try to make it easier. There are a lot of resources on canvas to help you study for the tests. They are challenging if you don't give yourself a lot of time to study. He lets you have a cheat sheet for tests and curves every single score.
The class is not as bad as people hype it up to be. A lot of learning has to be done on your own time through the online textbook he provides. If you read and take notes on the textbook, the concepts are much easier to understand than when they're explained in the lectures. The TA for this class sucks.
an ex-wall street man who wanted to teach instead of deciding to actually retire. never had a teacher who prevented my success as much as debo. all assigned homework was irrelevant to the 7am sunday exams, material was taught in a different way than appeared on tests. so concerned about cheating, if only he put that effort in to supporting students
3 exams that make up your entire grade and are held at 7am on Sundays because why not! Exams are impossible to pass without A+. There are 3-7 homework assignments every week that take up to an hour for just one. Small instructor teachers can't teach or even answer simple questions. He refers to his students as powerhouses, like are we serious?
I was nervous abt this class thinking I'd fail. I'm not the smartest, but if you put in the effort it's not as hard as people say. You gotta read, listen, and take tons of notes. The cheat sheet he gives for tests is a lifesaver. I crammed everything onto it. Everyone is dramatic u just have to try but you'll do fine lol

all the homework for which you have to do an entry journal etc is not on the test. the tests are all mc. you're given a double-sided page of notes. I got an average of a 70% on the tests and still ended with a B. At the end of the semester, he curved the class (it depends on the class but he rounded us ~3%). sign up for a+ review if you wanna pass.

He is so unhelpful and the class average is extremely low, I don't understand why he is even a professor here. You are better off taking this class in community colleges.
This class was the hardest class I've ever taken! There was so much hw every week and the tests were hard nothing like the hw. However, if you try your hardest by studying every day, doing your hw, extra credit, accounting projects, and doing ok in the tests you will at least pass with a C.
I enjoyed the class. The exams are really hard specially the second one so prepare for that. You have more than one month to prepare for each exam which is very manageable. A lottt of homework and just limited attempts not very helpful for exams. The textbook is extremely helpful you will do great if you understand the textbook.
The worst professor at SDSU, and it is not close either. There is a difference between a bad professor, and then someone like Deboskey who would rather watch you fail then succeed. It is truly sad how awful he is and how many people have had to retake his class. He also gets paid under the table by Mcgraw Hill. DO NOT TAKE HIM, take at a CC instead
Just read the textbook and you will be fine. This class is not as hard as everyone makes it out to be.
This class is hard, I won't sugar-coat even though I like Dr. DeBoskey. You'll pass if you read and do the practice questions from the book. My friend was lost half of the time in the class and managed to get a C. Do the homework and try to get above the average on the exams. He's cool if you get to know him!
Tons of reading and notes for this class but it pays off to know your stuff for the tests. Dr. D provides numerous chances for extra credit. It's time consuming and not an easy course but if you put in effort you will do well. He actually explains things really well in lectures and playposits. Attendance is graded and a weekly quiz. Overhated imo.
This is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. 7am lectures on sunday morning are we serious? He is so bad. The exam prep material is always foggy and he isn't clear. You have to be so dialed to do well in this class. Just pay A+ and live to see another day. Seems like one of those professors that prides himself on being a pain. All hail A+

This professor does not care at all about the success of his class. His tests are meant to trick you and his curve can hurt you just as much as it can help you. He gives homework over spring break and also on holidays. On top of this his TA small section teachers are clueless of the class material and are no help. Good luck
you need a 96 for an a which is absolutely insane. not the worst class in the world you need to know your stuff but the homework and lectures are definitely not helpful. tests are all multiple choice and the homework does not relate to the tests so know textbook stuff.
DeBoskey is a really nice guy and you can tell that he wants the best for his students. There are 3 big tests and you need a 96 to get an A, which seems unrealistic, but he offers multiple extra credit opportunities and the material isn't that difficult as long as you do the reading/homework and go to to lecture. Definitely overhated
He has in-class attendance (with location services on) and grades really harshly. There is only three tests all early morning on Sunday's and the class average is always really bad. Lectures and reading don't really help that much with the homework, you kind of need to figure it out yourself.
Exams are worth most of the grade, but there is a curve at the end. Expect your grade to go up one plus/minus. His class is challenging, and his lectures get more confusing as the semester goes on. To do well, you need to dedicate so much time to this class. The homework was also very time consuming.
His TAs have no idea what they are doing. every time a student asks a question they have no answer. His test are hard but they are doable if you read the textbook and take good notes. hes not a terrible professor but his TAs are awful. I liked him overall.
Deboskey is chill but kinda a rambler. #1 tip: read the textbook. I read & took notes on all the smartbook chapters before his lectures & it was really helpful for following his lectures and understanding course materials. Taking notes on the readings was quite time consuming but worth it imo. Definitely at least read the chapters in full tho.
He explains pretty good but ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY try to get all the points possible do every extra credit opportunity. Material is very challenging expect to study on average 5-8 hours before each exam. each exam is curved, class at the end is curved as well but not by a lot. exams are on sundays.
Students are not adequately prepared for exams. The exam questions are nothing like the homework questions. Many of the prerecorded videos are from 6 years ago. The TA for the class has openly admitted to being unable to solve some of the exam questions.
What a blast not the accounting part but Summer itself! Deboskey is a strange fella, but he cool at times. THE BEST PERSON IS HIS T.A. ONE OF THE MOST HELPFUL INDIVIDUALS I MET IN COLLEGE, SO DEDICATED AND PASSIONATE IN HER MAJOR AND SHE TRULY RECIPROCATES THAT INSPIRATION TO HER STUDENTS. i mean class really isn't that bad as ppl say. if you struggle with accounting, it's going to be hard regardless. cool guy and knows his stuff, will help if you demonstrate effort. tests are hard so actively study w/ problems beforehand and have a good cheat sheet.
There is no reason for this class to be as hard as he made it. The TA would admit how terrible scores were for current and past tests. Attendance is mandatory and not lenient (he said if we were in the hospital or a funeral we would sacrifice our attendance for that). Tests are NOT like hw problems at all, you basically have to teach it to yourself
I honestly don't get all the Debo hate. Yes accounting is hard and definitely harder than an entry level class that most students are not even majoring in accounting should take but he does care about his students and will help you out with anything you need, offered extra credit, and will curve final grades. Class always got out early too.
Does not care about his students. I had a doctors note for the flu and he said to wear a mask and go to my exam or I will get a zero. Only reads off slides, 100% would not take.

I understand why people don't like him, he is pretty strict. However, he is hilarious and I can definitely say I learned a lot in this course. I understood his lectures, and exams are just like homework/practice.
This class is a lot of work, so do not procrastinate at all otherwise you will get cooked. The tests are quite different than what is learned in class, but make sure you use the McGraw Hill resources they are actual blessings. Overall, he is a pretty cool guy you can tell is trying to be a cool professor but just a decently hard class.
Really hard class. To pass exams, go to McGraw and use the example questions, copy and paste every question and answer to your cheat sheet, trust, it is the only reason I passed. Take screenshots of the practice questions with journals and add them with instructions on how to do the calculations, if you do that, you will pass. Study and do the hw.
course structure is fine and lectures are more than clear enough, though i did miss several. simply doing the homework should give enough of a framework to at least pass the class, though an issue i had was the inability to make up any of the required in-class quizzes; a family member of mine passed and i couldn't do anything but tank the points
Exams are pretty difficult (class average 60-70s) but manageable if you study hard. A cheat sheet is allowed on exams which helps a lot, and he added extra credit to everyone's final grade. Accounting is hard no matter who you take it with. If you do the mcgraw practice problems then you will do just fine.
Dr. D is honestly a great professor and knows a lot about accounting. People don't like him because he doesn't put up with students who don't do the work. If you show up to all the lectures and read the textbook there is no reason to not get a good grade in this class. Most of the negative reviews are people who don't show up and fail.
He ends his emails with all of his accomplishments/positions (dated back to 2018) in neon bold font. That list will be longer than the actual email. That sums up the experience you may have, but he is very knowledgeable & gives ample resources to students. Just expect a tough experience if you ever miss anything, regardless of the reasoning.
just go to class, do your hw, study with the lectures + mcgraw practice problems and mc, and you will be fine. also extra credit is added at the end
deboskey is definitely overhated, acctg 201 is a hard course and he did a good job of explaining topics. as long as you go to lectures, take the in class quizzes, and actually do the homework, you will be fine. he also adds extra credit at the end of the semester!
Hated this class, everything everyone says about him is true. thinks he's a god. in class quizzes for small + large lectures. 4-8 long assignments due every week. tests are hard. had a crash out about people cheating and faked emails of people tattle telling.
